Aladdin modern sequel fic idea!

In the modern day, many thousands of years after the events of the Aladdin franchise, nerdy teenager Alex Mcclure learns of the existence of magic after he encounters a strange little man who sells him a mysterious ring. The ring turns out to be the vessel for the genie Amani, who grants his first wish for a unique girlfriend by causing the feisty bird goddess Dima to fall into his arms – quite literally. From there, the weirdest, wildest adventure of a lifetime is triggered, as Alex and his friends, old and new, attempt to protect Amani from falling into the wrong hands while trying to keep their promise to wish her free.

Original Characters

Alex Mcclure: Our new protagonist. He resembles Aseem from The Magic Lamp Theater. Voiced by Ayumu Murase.

Amani: The Genie of the Ring, who is just as weird and comical as Genie is. While Genie’s coloration is sky blue, she glows hot pink. Voiced by Megumi Hayashibara.

Dima: Iago and Thundra’s daughter. Like Genie, she takes human form to disguise herself in a world that has forgotten that magic exists. Her true form resembles her father, albeit with a violet plumage and her mother’s eyes and tailfeathers. When Alex accidentally makes his first wish for a girl “like no other”, Amani decides on Dima, literally shooting her down as she enters the US trying to flee from Malcho, effectively rescuing her. Voiced by Naomi Nagasawa.

Bria Mcclure: Alex’s fraternal twin sister. As her favorite piece of classic literature is The 1001 Arabian Nights Entertainments, she is eager to join in on the adventure. Voiced by Suzu Hirose.

Abe Cantu: Bria’s boyfriend, and Alex’s pal. He initially has reservations about going on a potentially dangerous adventure, but as the story unfolds, he gradually gets used to the craziness that comes their way. Voiced by Masaya Onosaka.

Nahla Solandres: The wealthy descendant of the dark sorceress Nasira, who plots to attain ultimate power by getting hold of Amani’s ring. For this purpose she and Malcho team up upon their first meeting. Voiced by Yūki Amami.

Making a combination AU that replaces certain characters with their spiritual counterparts is fun, complicated and hilarious for so many reasons, especially with the implications that certain changes bring about.

(TL;DR at the bottom and under the line since this is a long post)

Right now, I'm rewriting certain parts of the Aladdin franchise as taking place in the Pokémon universe. Basically what that means is that all animals are replaced with creatures that have generally unique elemental abilities to their typing and species. Some of these creatures have such great and specific powers that they're revered as representations or even gods of certain concepts, such as space, harvest, lightning, weather, etc.

Okay, so that should make replacing the animal characters in the Aladdin franchise easy, right? I mean, we've got Abu the Aipom (both based on the New World Monkey with Aipom being known for its mischievous and thieving nature), Rajah the Arcanine (not a cat, no, but it retains the strength, loyalty and majesty without being over-powered), and Xerxes the talking Eelektrik.

So let's get to Iago! There are a few Flying-type Pokémon that fit Iago's loud and slightly malicious nature, but the most obvious choice is Chatot (pictured below), which mimics human words in an accurate manner. It's a full species, the shiny-form has red as the primary color... it's perfect.

Since we're including everything in the franchise, we're also including Iago's love interest: Thundra, Guardian of the Rainforest, from the television series episodes Fowl Weather, Rain of Terror and The Love Bug. Thundra is a powerful (Spanish!) bird capable of speech responsible for the health of the Earth's trees and its weather, and she develops unlikely feelings for the conniving Iago.

Okay, so we need a large, majestic, bird-like Pokémon that has great power over nature and controls the weather. That would be difficult except it's REALLY NOT, because there's a Legendary (revered as a god-like entity) Pokémon that matches almost that EXACT description, and that would be Tornadus!

Tornadus is the Cyclone Pokémon, capable of creating massive storms with winds strong enough to destroy modern houses and moving through the air and across oceans at 200 mph. It's green, avian, affiliated with weather and powerful enough to cause damage all on its own... is there a more perfect counterpart to Thundra, Guardian of the Rainforest and Iago's love interest?

...Well, maybe, because see, Iago is very interested in ladies, even attempting to woo Jasmine in The Flawed Couple while under the influence of the Love Stone. The original three Forces of Nature (Tornadus, Thunderus, Landorus) are all VERY exclusively male.

All that leaves us with a few options for Thundra, each of which are quite entertaining: Change Iago's gender, change Thundra's gender, have Iago fall for the fourth Force of Nature Enamorus (which is a... very female Pokémon with an interesting design) or my personal favorite: Make Iago heckin' gay for a green bird-man who sometimes looks like a genie with its lower-half covered by a cloud and has a six-pack.

(Note: There are other options of course, like making Thundra an Alpha Altaria and making her opponent Malcho one of the Forces of Nature, but gay bird six-pack men are a lot funnier)
