Kobra tries so hard to be like other ‘joys. He really does, but his sorts of rebellions never seem to match theirs. Killjoys shout because BL/ind forced them to whisper. Kobra is silent because BL/ind forced him to speak.

Why I think Kobra Kid is autistic
- He doesn’t smile and has the same expression / looks grumpy all the time
Not saying all autistics are like this, but some are. The other killjoys seem to smile more than he does in photos but he always seems to remain serious or grumpy in his.
- He wears sunglasses all the time
Although the other killjoys have also wore sunglasses too it’s on an every now and then basis. For Kobra, he seems to live on that thing meaning he hardly takes it off and we hardly ever see his eyes. I have a theory this is because it’s bright in the desert and Kobra has sensory issues (meaning he’s more sensitive to light and noise) that’s why he wears them all the time as opposed to the others.
- He wears a helmet and likes to keep the helmet visor on as well
I believe this is because of sensory issues again. During gunfights the sound from the blasters can be quite loud or the sound of the bike when he’s riding it the engine can be quite loud as well. I believe Kobra is wearing the helmet because he is also sensitive to loud noises. The helmet is kind of like ear defenders helping him muffle the noise.
As for the visor, I believe that’s because he’s shy and socially awkward. He feels insecure so to solve this issue he simply goes around closing the visor so people can’t see him or his eyes (since he can’t make eye contact). I believe the “Good Luck” letters on it is to cover up his eyes as well.
Lastly the fact that the helmet has a smiley face on it also adds to this theory, Kobra decorated the helmet himself because he has artistic talent (his special talent and skill is in art) and also because he is socially awkward / doesn’t know how to communicate so he paints a smiley face on it instead so that when he’s wearing it and covering his face up it seems like that he is communicating and talking to them (if that makes sense)
- He’s terrible at using a gun and can’t shoot to save his own life
This could be because he is autistic and can find learning things difficult especially something as complicated as using a gun (this theory and head canon is based on my own personal experience of using air soft guns and struggling because I am also autistic and found it hard to learn).
The other Killjoys aren’t as bad in terms of shooting as he is but on the other hand he excels in martial arts.
- Excels in Kung Fu and Karate
Many autistic people have one thing that they are good at and for Kobra it’s martial arts. He is good at hand to hand combat although poor with gun usage. I believe Kobra is good at martial arts because that is his special skill and “talent” that’s his strong point, for him Martial arts came to him naturally.
I believe the other Killjoys aren’t as good at hand to hand combat especially Party Poison (Sorry Poison but you died first in Sing by getting knocked out and shot) so Kobra’s talent and strong point is definitely martial arts thanks to his autistic ability.
- Mikey Way said Kobra Kid was bad tempered, misunderstood and “aggressive”
These are all traits within autistic people. I believe that Kobra Kid is “bad tempered” and “aggressive” because he doesn’t know how to regulate his emotions so he gets frustrated and to other people who don’t understand him this can come across as aggression and bad tempered when really he just doesn’t know how to show it because he has a social communication disability.
Misunderstood because he is autistic and to other people who are neurotypical and don’t understand they just think his behaviour is bizarre, strange or abnormal (especially when he is walking into places with sunglasses on and doesn’t respond to people talking to him). Unfortunately as someone with ASD I also had this happen to me so I think that’s what Mikey meant when he said that Kobra Kid was a misunderstood character.
Anyway these are just my thoughts based on what I know about Kobra Kid and noticed - I know many people in the fandom have a headcanon that he is autistic already and I have to say I agree. Even though canon didn’t explicitly say that Kobra was autistic, they left a lot of clues that he was.

fuck all of you but i am a firm believer in autistic kobra kid
bad with facial expressions; the girl thinks its weird he never smiles and sometimes asks jet if kobra's a robot
def some tramua sprinkled in here and there(mostly from BL/Ind) and has no way of coping with it
has no knowledge on how to show affection aside from biting and giftgiving random things(especially to the girl). its usually just random things, like pretty rocks he finds out in the zones
totally has meltdowns over little things. do not breathe too loud next to him or he'll totally snap at you
hyperfixates on random little things every now and then, like painting. i 100% believe that kobra would be the one who decorated the trans am and not poison
cannot keep eye contact for the life of him. solution? sunglasses
disappears a lot. mostly to get away from the group when they start getting rowdy. hes just too sensitive
always has some sort of fidget on him. prolly a really smooth rock he found out in the desert or a dried up pen that he can click
does not know how to communicate feelings in any way toward the rest of the group. everything just gets pent up until his next meltdown and he snaps at everyone
def just stares off into space, daydreaming of some fantasy land where everything goes correctly
does not like getting touched unless its from the girl. maybe an occasional hug from poison, but other than that, nobody touches kobra
does not know what sitting still is. hes always twitching or moving. if he finally sits down for two seconds, which is unlikely, hes sitting on a table, counter, or laying on the floor. there are no chairs to kobra
the radio is specifically kobras and kobras only. he listens to music every chance he gets and gets fussy if someone tries changing it or turning it off. this is one of the very few forms of coping he has left
is easily the quiet one bcs he doesnt know how to voice his opinion correctly. it usually comes out with a weird tone that sounds to aggressive or smt. but poison, jet, and ghoul know thats just him and tell him its okay every time it happens
absolutely hates the sound of the blasters. specifically why he always has his helmet on. its a nice sensory adjuster for him. its padded in the right spots to dim the sound and its not uncomfortable
gets overstimulated easily - relating back to the meltdowns - meltdowns are frequent with kobra as nothing goes according to his own plan
he hates going out in the zones without any forewarning

The fabulous four were dusted years ago, but they still haunt the zones. Their names are spoken in reverence, like the Witch's, but sometimes in spite too, because nobody likes heroes anymore. To most zonedwellers, at this point martyrdom is nothing but suicide, an easy way out. You can say you died for your cause all you want but at the end of the day theres four less pawns on the board and if they were still here maybe they'd be overthrowing the king instead. It's different, running to Battery City instead of from it, many still think the faulous four were insane for it. Sure, they had a reason, but many argue it wasn't good enough. You don't just trade four lives for one like that, not in war. It's bad strategy.
Whatever. In reality, most zonedwellers just don't care anymore, those legends are legends now, all thats left of them are their names, heavier in some places than others.
Like here, at the crash track, everyone knows of the Kobra Kid. His name is traded like a dietys among the racers, as if hes some god that can grant you luck in a race if you leave the right offering by the starting banner or whisper the right words under your breath. More than the rest of the fabulous four, Kobra Kid carved out a place for himself here, a trench of a legacy through zone four that everyone that races or watches them knows, the fastest 'joy to ever grace the tracks, they say, and even dead, the Kobra Kid remains such, standing tall as reigning champ in what remains, the records that no racers yet to beat.
It seems that out of respect, no one even tries. It's become a superstition, that if you try to break one of Kobra's records, it's bad luck, like shattering a mirror or walking under a ladder, they say that on your next race you'll spin out or pop a tire or break a leg for real, that you'll be luckier than usual if you don't break your neck.
Hardly anyone that hangs around the crash track anymore actually knew him, but everyone still knows his story, its whispered in the stands like gossip, killjoys discussing the kid that came along and grew up fast, watching races first, then one day showing up with his own bike he had saved up carbons for, then he made a name for himself quick, because the kid was a damn natural. He could race the track like an ospery flies, cutting through the sand with a grace unlike any other. Eventually he didn't just master the track, he became it. Older joys say you had to see him racing to believe it, the jumps he could make, the turns he could spin, the times he could set. They say that after he was ghosted with the fab four, the crash track, a place so full of life all day and night, was empty for a week.
Barren. Nobody raced, crews didn't hang out, for a week there was no life, no music. It felt more like a graveyard. Some sat in the stands and watched the tumbleweeds blow across the track, waiting for a race that never started. It was a long moment of silence, and by the end of the week, apparently candles lined the track, the whole track, one big altar to the lost racer.
Then, everyone came back, as if they had all unspokenly agreed to, and people raced again, seeing that red motorbike in the corner of their eye, keeping speed with them, they say, until a bend, then it will dissappear, and they know that if they turn to look, it will disappear too. Maybe its actually him, haunting the track, maybe its just a mirage, because he may be gone but the desert remembers, the crash track remembers. Nobody knows, but those older joys, the ones that knew Kobra, that raced with him, hardly any of them race anymore, they're fully able to, there’s just no fun in crossing the finish line and being neck to neck with a ghost.

some killjoys past headcanons (mostly venom siblings)
-Kobras and Poisons moms met when they were both wandering in the desert. Poison was like 3 years old, and Kobra was a newborn. Their moms started to live together (thats why Kobra and Poison are convinced theyre siblings. their moms never told them otherwise) but didnt really take care of the kids, because both of them were ex-baterry city citizens who escaped to the desert, and they hated it. They blamed their problems on the kids. Poison was the one to take care of Kobra
-When Party was 10 and Kobra was 6, their moms decided to sell them to BLI for some money (Party was going to be trained to be a model because of his slender constitution, and Kobra was going to be trained to be a scarecrow). Party somehow overheard the two women talking, and decided to escape with Kobra.
-the next two years, Party and Kobra roamed alone in the desert without anyone. in thoses years, Party's physical state started decaying. They gave almost all resources (food, water) to Kobra because they were really protective of him.
-in the end, when Party was 12 and Kobra was around 8, they casually stumbled across gravel gerties home for children, and even though Party didnt like the place, they decided the best thing for Kobra was to stay there. so they stayed.
-there, Party met Jet (who was 14 at the time), who lived in the place. and they both started to work as teachers there, because they were really shorthanded in staff. Party didnt like it at all because they already had trouble with kids, but Jet, who had worked there for a year already, helped them to manage the children.
-Kobra had a lot of trouble interacting with children there, because he (like Party) was autistic. of course, neither he or Party knew it. Jet and Party therefore spent a lot of time with Kobra, and thats when the three started to become really close.
-Poison was really protective of Kobra and didnt let him out alone at all. They were scared of anything happening to him- from drunk zoners to dracs, anything really- and Kobra felt like Party didnt trust him. And yes, it messed up with his self-esteem pretty well.
-So after a little fight with Party, he snapped and screamed at them that they didnt trust him, they didnt think he was capable of doing things on his own, and more things (Party still thinks about that day). and he runned away. and logically, like he never got out alone, he quickly got lost.
-Kobra roamed in the desert for a couple days. and thats when he met Ghoul.
-Ghoul's older sister, mother, and father had been killed by the BLI when he was 6 years old. and he had no one since then. He had spent so much time alone in the desert that he forgot how to interact with humans and just treated them as animals. He threw a can down the hill for Kobra to get it. And Kobra actually did. thats what convinced Ghoul he wasnt dangerous.
-Ghoul was 15 too when he met Kobra. and slowly, they got closer and closer, as Ghoul teached Kobra how to survive in the wide desert and Kobra explained to Ghoul how to correctly talk and act around other humans.
-At some point, Kobra accidentaly found his way back to gravel gerties. Three months had passed since he escaped it.
-Jet was to first to see him arrive. When he saw him, he whispered something to a children who runned away, and Jet smiled and told him "welcome back." -Party arrived running and panting a couple minutes later. When they saw him, they slapped him across the face. And then hugged him. and then slapped him again.
-Ghoul stood a couple meters away, nervous and not sure if it was safe to approach his friend. Jet saw him, asked Kobra about who it was, and he replied "my best friend" without hesitation.
-At first, Party and Jet werent sure it was a good idea to welcome Ghoul among them. but it was the first time Kobra spoke about someone else like they were a true friend. And Jet accepted.
-Party was nervous around Ghoul in the beginning, but then got to know them more and has been forever grateful for him to basically save Kobras life.
-Jet was the one to teach Ghoul how to read. because of course, he couldnt. it frustrated him a lot and he struggled badly with language, but was surprinsgly good at maths, science, and mostly, tech.
-Party trusted Kobra a lot to go out by himself (though it still made them really nervous), and because of that, Kobra started going to Crash Track. And started racing there. He quickly built himself a name among the bikers.
(okay so i made this very quickly and without editing, plus i havent put all the info i wanted on it. so pt 1?)

★ for party poison!!
★ - sad headcanon
I think unlike what most people hc Party and Kobra weren't really super close as kids. Party was their father's favorite as much as their father had favorites (he didn't really like either of them) and the only son, so they were constantly being pushed to be perfect and did their best to keep up the facade, while Kobra was mostly just seen as weird or stupid or lazy especially compared to Party's perfection. Party wasn't always the nicest about Kobra's differences, which wasn't entirely their fault, those things were all they'd ever heard said about Kobra and kids just copy the things they hear from adults. They still got along most of the time, but it hurt Kobra a lot even after he was old enough to recognize they just didn't know better.
Kobra escaped to the desert first with Party following a little while after and out there he found D and Cherri and Pony. Cherri and Pony were pretty quick to adopt him as a little brother, especially Cherri who'd already adopted Pony as his little brother a few years earlier. It didn't take long for Kobra to realize that older brothers aren't supposed to make you feel like shit and he was pretty content to just forget about his old family and move on.
Until Party showed back up.
Party was not cool with Kobra being trans or with him calling these weird fucked up people, these criminals his "family" and tried to get him to come back to the City. As you can imagine that only deepened Kobra's dislike of them. Party wasn't going back without Kobra and eventually started to realize how fucked up BLI was and how going back probably wasn't a good idea. It still took a while for them to learn about the whole trans thing but in the end they were cool with it and realized they're non-binary themself.
Still, Kobra wasn't particularly interested in being super close with them and they were really jealous of Cherri and Pony. Internalized transphobia made them feel like a failure of an older brother specifically, like they'd failed to be all the things that a younger sister, their younger sister, needed from her older brother. They'd failed so badly she'd gone and found herself two new older brothers and didn't need them anymore. And especially comparing themself to Cherri and Pony, who they were sure embodied masculinity better than they ever had, despite the fact that by City standards they wouldn't have been masculine at all and that even by Zones standards they were considered more androgynous or even feminine. They also felt like a failure of an older sibling, or just a sibling in general, realizing the way they'd treated Kobra most of their life had been really, really wrong.
They do make up (sort of) and are the closest they've ever been by the time they move into the diner but there's always this sort of tension between them because neither is able to really properly process the things that happened when they lived in the City or how their relationship was previously, so they can't properly heal from it and move on. Party's always a little jealous of the station crew and the rest of the Fab Four, knowing that of everyone around them they're Kobra's least favorite, and it's their own damn fault.

Hard of hearing Fun Ghoul, partially deafened by a bomb. It was his own fault really, but being a killjoy can have its side effects and being a killjoy with a speciality in demolitions, even more so. One day one of his bombs when off a little too soon after he threw it, detonating a little too close. All he remembers is getting thrown back from the concussive force and blacking out, waking up on his back in the sand with his ears ringing and Jet Star hovering over him, checking for wounds. Usually one explosion isn’t enough to permanently deafen you, but maybe this wasn’t exactly the first time something along these lines had happened to Fun Ghoul, plus there’s the lifetime of listening to music far too loud and the few concussions he’s collected over the years. But this detonation accident was definitely the worst of his accidents and his hearing was never quite the same after. He was left with near constant tinnitus and having to consistently ask his friends to repeat what they say louder like an old man. Eventually he gets hearing aids that really do help but they’re hard to come by in the desert so he has to go for months after losing most of his hearing without them. It’s hard at first, but he survives, he adapts, learns to keep his head on a wider swivel during a fight, learns to look for details, small movements that normally he’d listen for tells of. His crew adapts too, they learn to speak louder and clearer around him, not mumbling or slurring words lazily. They make their own signals, specific movements to communicate certain messages across a battlefield since Ghoul can’t hear shouted orders from that distance anymore. Show Pony teaches them all sign language that Kobra proves to have an affinity for, picks it up right away. Poison has more trouble with it, can understand it just fine when someone else is signing, just can’t seem to do it themself, mixes up signs and moves jerkily. They’ve always had some sort of disconnection between their brain and their hands, issues with their motor skills. They feel like shit over it but Ghoul assures them it’s fine, the two of them can all but communicate telepathically anyway, having full conversations with just their eyes from across a room.
