Here’s what I’m thinking about: Bug’s self esteem and Bucky’s thoughts on her body

Pairing: Biker!Bucky x Bug (+Brother’s best friend Bucky, plus sized fem reader)  CW: Struggles with physical self esteem (younger Bug), talks about comparing bodies and societal beauty standards, past fat phobia and bullying, language, references to sex, oral sex and fooling around, switches from 3rd person to 2nd person POV at the sex part. 

By the time we meet Bug as an adult we aren’t going to see a lot of physical self-esteem issues, in fact she carries herself with a lot of confidence. She wears whatever the fuck she wants, styles her hair and makeup however she wants, and carries the mindset of “I don’t owe it to anyone to be pretty or palatable.” This is because in her 20s she’s really started to unpack how much bullshit comes with a. existing as a woman in society and b. existing as a plus size woman in society. So if she doesn’t want to shave her legs she’s not going to, but you bet your ass she’ll still be in shorts if it’s hot, humans have body hair get the fuck over it. 

I’d say this turning point for her really came around the time that Bucky got arrested for kicking the shit out of her ex (as referenced here). It had been devastating at the time, and even though Bucky swore up and down he’d happily do it again consequences be damned, she realized someone she cared about who clearly cared way more about her than said shit head ex was being inconvenienced for something at the end of the day didn’t really matter all that much. Like who was her ex to even say that? And why would she care about some loser’s opinion? 

That was not the case when they were growing up, however. If we were to purely just focus on younger Bug we’d see a lot more insecurity born from her experiences with bullies and the fact that the token actresses chosen to play the “fat friend” in movies and TV were still significantly smaller than her. It also didn’t help that Bucky’s on again off again girlfriend throughout high school was tiny so she’d look at her as the gold standard for what Bucky must want and spend tearful nights comparing her thigh size to her, her waist size, etc. 

That, that attention to Bucky’s “type,” comes into play later on because as discussed , Bucky ends up sleeping around a lot. Which ends up revealing that Bug is in fact not the exception- we’re not going to see that trope of “would you date a plus size girl?” “Of course, it’s what’s inside that counts.” Bucky isn’t looking past Bug’s appearance to date her.  Because yes of course what’s inside matters but Bucky wasn’t sleeping around based on personality, and his choice of partners revealed that he has an appreciation for all different bodies. So does he find Bug beautiful on the inside? Absolutely. Does he also just find her incredibly fucking hot? Full send. And if he suddenly finds himself sleeping with more people that bare a resemblance to her leading up to him realizing his feelings surely that’s just a coincidence...

Speaking of sex; Bucky will dick you down six ways to Sunday and talk about how incredibly sexy your body is the entire time, how receptive it is, how welcoming. Bucky already found you desirable but that desire only increases in intensity the more he spends getting to know you and your body. He wants your plush thighs wrapped around his head, wants the full weight of you on him as you sit on his dick, wants to lick every single stretch mark, bite and mark the dimpled skin of your ass, press wet open mouthed kisses to the ample swell of your stomach, he wants to worship you. 

TLDR:

Bug is the type to say “If I’m too heavy to lift you better work out.”

and Bucky is the type to be in the gym because he needs to drag you down the bed, throw you across the room, fuck you up against the wall...

We always try to go back to the original pilot and say, what more is there to learn about this moment?

Based on the leaks out there, there seems to be very few Lonnie scenes in the play, and yet it also sounds like he's gotta be the most consistently portrayed when compared to his character on the show, more than anyone else, even down to this very line, this concept of him having nothing to do with it. This tells me that with what little they were willing to give, there is a major significance to it and what it means for his character and for his role in the story overall.

So what is it? What does Lonnie have nothing to do with?

In s1, it's about Will and his disappearance. But clearly it's more than that because they made a point to have Joyce say it twice, to trust her on this.

If Lonnie has nothing to do with this, and that's a theme they want to carry out in this play in a way that quite literally juxtaposes his first mention on the show, taking us back to the very beginning, what does that mean?

Idk. Maybe it just means he has nothing to do with this. Maybe it means he has nothing to do with Will more than we realize...

im going to talk about yosano too. i hate how little the fandom talks about yosano's character. it makes me truly upset. like first of all lets address the fact that judging by how many of the agency members cringe abt the idea of needing her ability used on them shes almost definitely the only reason they havent all literally been killed. to say nothing of how many times we see it on screen esp in s4 like if yosano had not been there shit would have been worse. and yet barely anyone talks about her even w the slight uptick since her backstory being animated. and her backstory is easily one of the most emotionally devastating ones in the whole story and the depiction of her being like "the door might have been open but i wouldn't have known or been able to leave" because she was so heavily traumatized after is to me as someone w ptsd myself such a harrowingly real feeling that comes w ptsd and being in dissociative states because of it. she was so young and was so traumatized she couldnt even move on her own and until she was rescued by fukuzawa and ranpo she had to endure so much unimaginable pain ESPECIALLY for a child so young at the time. and yet even so today she still pushes through no matter what and is so incredibly strong mentally and physically esp considering we know her past still haunts her enough to where she still feels undeserving of the agency's care and like she has to atone for things she was forced to do (m*ri watch your fuckinf back because every second youre not running i only get closer). and despite feeling that way she still does everything she can to protect the agency and save people now that she can use her ability however she wants without being told when or how she has to use it because all she ever wanted was to save people. the agency owes their very survival to yosano in the most literal sense and i just think everything she's gone through and everything she contributes gets overlooked so so often and i hate it i truly do

#in general the girls and women in bsd get overlooked a concerning amount which is another can of worms #but this is one example of that #anyway please talk about yosano more #she is so important and a character doesn't have to constantly be in the spotlight to be crucial #because it isn't an exaggeration to say she's the only reason the agency has survived on a literal level #and even if that wasn't the case she's so interesting and has such a harrowing backstory #people tend to forget bsd is set post-war #and that becomes very important context with many story elements #whether it's yosano's backstory or ranpo finding fukuzawa while searching for a job at 14 yrs old #because the government set up minors to work after many were orphaned to prevent 'bad behavior' #and yes even fukuchi #because obv hes a dickhead but its not for no reason #especially considering what we've learned in recent chapters that doesn't make him excusable but does make him at least understandable #which is not in Defense of him but he's not just doing shit for what he perceives as no reason #but that and the post-war topic in bsd is another post for another time #but you do have to remember that #and it is obviously very prominent and important in yosano's backstory #and very crucial to understanding the level of trauma she endured #bsd s4 spoilers #bsd spoilers #just in case #bsd #akiko yosano

i’ve seen the claims that pikmin 1 has the best pikmin combat cuz you can’t “solve” it. in 2, purple pikmin/sprays can annihilate anything. in 3, enemies are generally weaker and the rush + spicy sprays are super powerful. in 4, you have purples (again) and now ice pikmin for what is effectively bitter sprays again, plus oatchi. you don’t get any crutches like these in pikmin 1, which means in theory you have to think more about what you’re doing in combat to kill enemies, plus pikmin die by far the easiest in 1 compared to the other games in general combat encounters.

except… in practice i really don’t think this made the game harder. enemies still didn’t tend to be super tough as long as you accept that casualties are inevitable. i don’t have a ton of experience with pikmin 1 but when i played it recently i found it to be a very comfortable ride, not a lot put up a ton of resistance even if more pikmin did end up dying compared to the other games. if anything combat to me feels worse in pikmin 1 cuz the ways you can break it in half in the rest of the series are fun to me.

CHARLOTTE + FRUIT 🍓

charlotte loves to eat fruit. her all - time favourite are strawberries, but she also loves oranges, mandarins, grapefruits, cantaloupe, honey dew, kiwis, peaches, and nectarines. charlotte will often buy fruits whenever she has the opportunity to do so. if she doesn't have any place to store the fruit or a chance to get the fruits home and into a refrigerator, she will simply eat them immediately. it is not uncommon to see charlotte cradling a basket of strawberries or blueberries in her arms, or with a fruit in her hand. like with all her foods, charlotte enjoys sharing whatever fruit she’s recently purchased. more than anything else, charlotte will often buy people fruit as a small gift.

for charlotte, FRUIT IS A LUXURY. fruit wasn’t always something she could afford. it was often something she would steal just to have as something to eat. more than that, buying fruit likely means having somewhere to store it so that it will not go bad quickly and be wasted. this was also not always the case of charlotte. therefore, fruit became something of a special treat in charlotte’s mind: something she enjoyed immensely for their freshness and tastes, but could only have when she had enough money not to spent on something more substantial or resistant to spoiling. even though she can usually readily afford to buy fresh and good quality fruits now, she holds onto this mindset of it being something of a luxury. to her, fruit is precious.

charlotte is not picky about the places she buys fruit from — if it looks good and the price is reasonable, she’s alright with it. she’ll buy from grocery stores, both small and large, from stall vendors, at farmer market’s, etc.

lastly, here are some connections between charlotte and fruit on a narrative level:

fruit are perishable, easily bruised, and, in some cases, quick to spoil. SO IS CHARLOTTE.

fruit can be deceiving in their appearance. how many times have you bought fruit thinking it looked good only to cut it open or bite into it to find it is sour, rotten, or not at all sweet? on the flip side: how often have you avoided buying the poor looking fruits only to learn later that the fruits may look bad, but are actually very sweet? charlotte doesn't always look the way she actually is.

some people insist on the idea that many fruits appear naturally made for sharing. think of mandarins, which divide neatly into pieces, or watermelons, which could feed a family like a meal. even fruits which are smaller, like grapes and strawberries, often come in large batches so that they may be enjoyed by one person for a long time or by multiple people for a short time. this idea of sharing goes hand - in - hand with charlotte’s predilection for making connections.

as a final thought, there is a more morbid connection between charlotte, her origins, and the manner in which, as a vessel, she is often consumed in her own chaos. fruits are meant to be bitten into, split open, and cut apart to be enjoyed. charlotte's form and flesh, like fruit and both at the time of assembly and during her existence here, is often pressed and prodded to check for quality, split open, cut apart into fragments but not to kill her - rather, to make her easier to consume. . . that is, easier to slip into the minds and imagination. something sweet, something a little bitter, something to stay.

one thing i'm trying to keep in mind while designing the cast of the resurrectionists is that they're all constantly changing clothes + ideally there will be ppl cosplaying these characters someday and i'd much rather see morana cosplays done in old btssb pieces that technically aren't things she wears than morana cosplays in cheap mass-produced versions of her canon outfits from aliexpress so i'm trying to make them all recognizable by a defining feature or two + fashion (sub)style alone

#i go back and forth on whether or not i give tetia freckles but i had no idea they were actually present in concept art #so wild how none of the apprentices have anything of the sort. #thats sort of just a thing with character design is people just do not quite consider casual facial details like freckles and moles for one #reason or another #at the very least characters get scars but like. it has to be a big story thing or relate to their character in some way #which makes sense because character designs are all about communicating information but still would it hurt to give characters #moles just for the sake of giving a character moles. does everyone have to have a clear face #also wheres the rep for people who ran into a bench when they were 4 and still have a dent on their face? (me #dont even get me started on noses. why does every child have to have a button nose with a select few adults sometimes getting a more #prominent nose. drives me crazy #especially because kamome is very capable of drawing interesting noses (i think about this one docter lady all the time) and its like okay #if the apprentices had different noses id be forever happy. #allisters atelier

OKAY Full disclosure. this was spurred by some posts ive seen floating around and they are Objectively correct and i agree with them, but the wordage they use is what bothers me and makes me think--its about the general and growing frustration and dismay over LEMH's portrayal and like... increased Importance in LMK, at the expense of like, literally all the other characters new and old.

Again, objectively that is INCREDIBLY true and i feel it 200%!!!! Its frustrating because they just yoinked aspects of SWK's relationships with characters like DBK from the original JTTW and Shoved them on LEMH like theyre Tropes that can be shifted around without consequence--it seems fine and interesting when you first watch LMK with no context or background knowledge, but after knowing what his ACTUAL deal was in the book, looking back on LMK makes what they are doing with LEMH feel lazy and Genuinely poorly researched, rather than an intentional divergence from the original story--because as a general rule of thumb, even if the fans dont Like what you changed, you still want the things in your story to be done On Purpose, like you at least Tried to put effort into it! Its about showing the audience that you think they deserve a narrative that was crafted with Care, not just slapped together and thrown out for a quick Hype/Cash grab, yk???

Anyway So THATS the thing, and thats all cool!!! My issue (and i cannot stress this enough this is Me being Silly and Obsessed with the Six Eared Macaque im a chronic blorbo haver there is no Cure) is that those posts Also tend to talk about LEMH as though... he is a boring character. As though he's just kind of "eh". Or at least thats how my Admittedly biased eyes read them--no beef! Its just gotten me to thinking and now i want to try to write out What im thinking and Why, bc thats a helpful thing to do when you're struggling to figure in your head, obvs obvs

And im of course willing to admit that Yes, in the original text, he is just kind of There! He serves his purpose (aiding in SWK's character development) and then he dies and he doesn't come back again! Hes kind of a metaphor but hes also just an annoying guy! Hes not presented as anything special! I get that that is what is Canon, and thats theres no way to really like... read anything deep into it. Bc theres literally nothing there.

But my problem is that i cannot let characters like that just Be. Especially if the premise of said character could be absolutely FASCINATING if you take it all Completely seriously and At face value--if you try to see whatever is going on for them through their eyes, their minds. Its like.... You can buy a shirt from the store as is, and some might be fine Wearing it as is--while other's might see that shirt and decide it needs a bit of hemming and perhaps some embroidery on the sleeves. Altering it does not change the fact that the original design is what it is--thats just One altered shirt that one person is wearing and perhaps lending to a friend or two, yk???

To me? LEMH exists in a nebulous state of inevitable connection with SWK--because i like to take the "LEMH is SWK's ~dark side~" thing seriously. In my eyes, they are literally the same person, the same qi, split into two bodies.

There are stories that exist today that explore this idea, characters with this kind of relationship--and i find them incredibly compelling! Because i adore stories that play with the question of what makes a person a person. What seperates you from your maker/origins? What is your purpose in life when you are intrinsically connected to another person, at your very core? Does that mean you exist For them? Do they exist for you? How does thinking that way affect a person, mentally and emotionally? How does it affect these characters, specifically, in conjunction with their personalities and the lives theyd led up until the point they knew about this connection? Have they always known about this connection? Only one of them?

How much more drastic would it affect you if you were essentially a nobody--and the person you are connected to is a public figure? Like Sun Wukong?

Id go crazy. Id go fucking insane? Can you imagine. Its about the potential!!!!! The potential of what knowing something like that would do to someone!!! Im losing the words im apologize i need to calm down--im Not done yet.

What i am getting at here.... is that LEMH would likely work Best as a character who's metaphorical aspects are taken Very Literally--especially so if the story also decides to lean into the idea of his hearing reaching through to the past and future, in any way. He is a character that would thrive on being portrayed in a way that allows him to be a bit Meta, if that makes sense

Yes, you Could just let him be a silly monkey who decided to start shit with SWK for giggles one day--that can absolutely have its merits! But that does not satisfy me, and that is why i am so passionate about him. I want to take my little guy so so fucking seriously because i think it would be SO fucking cool. And a very useful and convenient way to explore ideas about relationships with The Self--since in my eyes, that is what his relationship would be with SWK.

AND ALL THIS STUFF ABSOLUTELY HAS ANOTHER SIDE TO IT, HOW IT ALL COULD AFFECT SWK ON HIS SIDE??? LIKE HOLY SHIT. HOLY SHIT i dont know if i want this post to be That long so i might stop here and come back later to talk abt it from SWKs side in a rb or something--

anyway point is. I thank LMK for introducing me to the Six Eared Macaque, but upon further analysis the way they did him is actually pretty garbo, and im biding my time for till someone introduces me to or Makes a version of him that takes him to his full potential. thats all thanks for coming to my TED talk, get out of my house please

Thinking about how MHA is in its final arc and how insane it is that we still don’t know who the hell Deku’s dad is.

#like. we are slowly tying up the loose plot threads laid out in the manga #and the one aspect that's usually heavily prominent in shounen manga is not brought up AT ALL #at least when it is we know the mom is either absent and/or dead but we know who she is by the end #(unless you're hxh but that's a whole different breed) #(or OP but that's another thing) #one thing i've noticed is that BNHA in particular is more about the moms than the dads #which is a nice little inversion of the trope #but it's still bugging me that the few fathers that are talked about in the manga midoriya hisashi is barely a blip on the radar #and this doesn't take into account the 'hisashi is AFO' theories either #like - the story has at least another year to go before it's over #i'd at least like to know who hisashi is what he was like and deku has never once brought him up at all in the ENTIRE MANGA #that right there is the main reason why i just can't get into fics that feature hisashi #it's b/c we know literally NOTHING about the guy! #and i can't tell #if the reason why hisashi isn't present is b/c of poor planning on horikoshi's part #or he really is that unimportant in the grand scheme of all things #bnha

I don't if you consume a lot of this sort of content, but do you have any Mikan-centric recommendations? Specifically fanfics/things on AO3 so I can put them in my Mikan collection, but comics would be fine as well. I'm fine with any ship also—I specifically really want works that deal with either Mikan and Junko's relationships or Mikan's relationships with the rest of the remnants! But I'm pretty much fine with any Mikan content. I have a Mikan collection that needs more work! Though it's fine if you don't have anything to recommend, too; I'm not sure how big on reading fanfic you are versus writing it (her smile is the sun is one of my favorite fanfics ever btw). Just was wondering if you had any Mikan centric recommendations!

Ooooo thank you for the ask! I do in fact read a lot of fanfic, and there have been many times where I've gone out of my way to find Remnant or post canon sdr2 fics, so I do have some in mind!! Okay so this fic is LONG, and it’s Makoto-centric, since it's 90% his pov in an au where he’s kidnapped by Remnant Komaeda in the middle of Despair Era. However Mikan’s dynamic with Makoto and the other remnants is a prominent feature, and I remember really enjoying her in this fic!

I’m just linking the author here since literally all their danganronpa fics are about Mikan and Junko lol. Might not be your thing if you’re looking for a darker, canon-compliant exploration of Mikan and Junko relationship, since all their fics are non-abusive Junkan, but I do love their writing style, and their fics are really fun! I’d recommend giving them a shot!

Okay it’s been a while since I read this one BUT I love all of op’s danganronpa works, and so I trust it completely! It’s post canon, and focuses on a still despair-filled Mikan’s recovery with the help of her classmates! So exploration of both Mikan’s relationships with them and Junko!

There's Something Wrong With Mikan Tsumiki - Chapter 1 - RedPen - Super Dangan Ronpa 2 [Archive of Our Own]

Obligatory ‘There’s something wrong with Mikan Tsumuki’ rec because all of Redpen’s remnant fics are SO good and everyone needs to read all of them. Premise is that after Hajime also gets Despair Disease, Fuyuhiko stays at the hospital overnight instead, and tries to prevent any murders! This is mostly Fuyuhiko’s pov but one of the chapters IS Mikan's pov and I just love her perspective and general creepiness in this!

Also obligatory rec of one of my own fics! Each chapter is a different direction specific remnants could have gone in! Mikan features a lot in the first chapter, and chapter 6 is fully a Mikan chapter, with the concept of her having birthed Junko’s child during the apocalypse! It focuses a lot on her dynamics with Hajime and Izuru during and post Despair Era, and I really enjoyed writing it!

Another one of mine whoops, but this is basically the funeral the About-to-become-Remnants give to Junko, and Mikan is a pretty noticeable figure in it!

Took me forever to find this fic again but this is one of my absolute fav Mikan oneshots!! It’s post canon, and concentrates on her dynamic with Komaeda and her former relationship with Junko. Really love how op tackles her own self-hate, and her continuous struggles with escaping Despair.

Anyway, that's all I can remember for now, but anyone can feel free to add more recs in reblogs or comments! I'm always happy to add to my repertoire of Remnant related fics :)

I’m too busy rn to write a whole thing on my thoughts on this jjk chapter (now it’s officially translated and out) but it’ll be good to have more time to sit on it

#soooo busy but having real life be so hectic actually helps lol bc I’m not too sad or angry about the chapter #maybe I would’ve been a few years ago when I. cared more about media in general but school and life is too much to add that on top haha #saying this as if any chapter w yuuji focus won’t crush my heart completely :( #buuuuut thinking about the chapter rn #don’t like how we got to gojo dying. or how the time skip is placed. bc those questions have to get answered #but I would’ve preferred some to be sooner than later. or at least more time w gojos internal thoughts that aren’t fight related #I do love the actual airport state of death scene. those in between states are my FAVORITE in jjk #and imo nothing seems ooc I like how the scene can be interpreted in many ways #love that nanami gets to be so prominent too. it’s fitting #I don’t really care about gojo being ‘offscreened’ since the flashback was him dying #but yeah all my issues are things that I think could’ve been solved in previous chapters but this one in itself is fine #also how I view all this depends on where the story goes ofc but I’m just here for the ride #jjk spoilers #jjk 236 #need to reiterate this but mark my words that next chapter is just kashimo fight #I’ve known jjk long enough to understand there’s never breathing room when it comes to any deaths 😭
