I find myself deeply frustrated by people who assign Daenerys Targaryen’s titles to Jon Snow.
No, Jon is not the father of dragons, this isn’t a group project. Daenerys bled for her dragons, she walked into that pyre fully prepared to die. Jon Snow stumbled upon a direwolf, he is handed a Valyrian steel sword, he stumbles upon Dragonglass.
Everything Daenerys has, she has earned with her blood, her sweat and her tears. I truly wish people would stop using her achievements to prop up their faves. Since the Dragonbane died, her family had been trying to bring back dragons.
All this to say, blood is not enough. Jon being Rhaegar’s son means less than nothing in the context of hatching dragons.
Dany is the only person who will even be the mother of dragons. She's the one who gave birth to the dragons and even if Rhaegal and Viserion one day find different riders to bond ( because Dany can't become their rider; she's already Drogon's) that wont eliminate the special bond they all share with their mother; Dany. Their potential riders will be like the countless dragonriders from the past who shared a bond with the dragon they rode, meanwhile Dany will be the only person in history who revived the dragon species. That will always be hers and hers alone.
With that being said, I don't like belittling a character in order to elevate another (and frankly Dany doesn't need it, she's special on her own account). Jon Snow didn't stumbled upon the direwolves, he found them and convinced his father that his siblings were meant to have them, his actions lead to the greatest treasure the Stark siblings have; to a bond that helped them unlock their magical powers. He's the one who found the sixth pup (despite the fact that Ghost is the silent one so possibly their bond was strong even before their meeting?) and claimed it for himself.
Furthermore, if you bothered to read Jon's chapters you would know that he wasn't given Longclaw just because. Jeor Mormont gave it to him because Jon bravely saved his life from a wight, even burning his hand in the process. Finally, it was Ghost who led him to the dragonglass. It's not something that was discovered by chance, Ghost - who shares Jon's soul- wanted to led him there. It's laughable to pretend that out of all the previleged noble character, the one who has grown with the stain of bastard, gets handled things.
Fuck anyone who belittles Dany's accomplishments. But also fuck anyone who belittles Jon's ones.

Top 5 favorite asoiaf theories?
okay so i had to consult the theory ice berg bc i forgot all of them.
1. Jeyne Westerling escaped with the Blackfish. Idk what anyone says I’m always going root for the survival of a teen girl. Plus I think there’s absolute comedy in the Blackfish adopting his grand-nephew’s teenage wife and hitting the road to get her to Greywater Watch.
2. Euron warged the dusky woman to have sex with/spy on Victarion. What else can I say except that Euron is absolutely perverted enough to do that
3. Ashara Dayne = Jyana Reed. There’s no disproving it, really, and I think the most desirable and beautiful woman in the world finding happiness in a quiet swamp with short king Howland Reed to heal after the Events of Everything is what she deserves.
4. Alyssa Targaryen is Alaric Stark’s daughter with Alysanne. Iffc, she was born right after Alysanne got back from the North. It doesnt really do anything for the plot except to poke another hole in Jaehaerys’ Pure Blood Exceptionalism
5. Renly Baratheon is Robert’s first bastard son. This is (unofficially) why he was left Storm’s End over Stannis and why Robert was sent to the Eyrie. Again, I dont think it changes/adds anything to the story, but I think it would be very interesting/ironic if Renly’s campaign for kingship did have more technical legitimacy than Stannis and neither of them realized

I have a theory why tradfems fester in the ASOIAF fandom, first one is that the fandom is filled with tradcels, so some are genuine pickmes who are into the series to get male attention. and others, the Stansas..i think they have a super shallow/self insert reading of their faves? aside from QITN/Jonsa/shitting on DanyArya nonsense they mostly like Sansa just because she's feminine. They praise stuff of her that is supposed to be seen in a negative light like her shallowness or lack of smarts and then make horrible takes about how she's revolutionary because she wears dresses unlike all other literature heroines cause they wear pants? nevermind they ignore the historical context for why Sansa would wear a dress in contrast to say a YA heroine living in modern day USA. it gets stupidier the more you think of it.
I definitely agree, and the whole situation is a lot more nuanced and understated than a lot of hardcore Stansas would have you believe.
I think the show can be blamed in part for depicting its female characters as archetypes of gender stereotypes. For example, Arya is often relegated to the role of the “not like other girls” female character. Dany is never allowed to be warm and caring like her book counterpart, and Sansa is made out to basically be a “damsel in distress” the first few seasons, and then a girl boss in the last few. The show runners really did not want these female characters to be multi-dimensional, they wanted to fit them into neat little gendered boxes.
The show would also rather have female characters r*ped than have consensual sex. As evidence by excluding female characters that do have a healthy relationship with sex (Asha, Val, Arianne) from the narrative.
In Westeros things like being intelligent, strong and independent are seen as masculine. Whereas traits like kindness, softness, and dependance on others are seen as feminine. But as the reader you are meant to know that traits like compassion or brutality are not feminine or masculine, and yet there are still readers that buy into the gender roles of Westeros without examining why they believe that adventuring for instance, is for men, and sitting in towers is for women. Gender is not as simple as “girls wear dresses and boys wear pants” and even though that is the general belief in Westeros, that is evidently not what the reader is meant to believe. And through characters like Daenerys, Arya, Sansa, Asha, Arianne, Val, Brienne and more, that could not be made any more clear to the reader.
Some people are selective readers, some people have only seen the show and not read the books, others read the books a long time ago and have forgotten things, others only re-read their favs chapters and allow their favourite character’s own biases to influence their view of other characters. Despite the fact it is made clear no character is entirely objective and they all have their own biases and version of events.
Aside from that, I don’t get the Jonsa ship. To each their own, but I don’t understand how such an obscure pairing can be so popular. Jon and Sansa have not interacted one on one at any point in the entire book series (that I recall). On top of that, they only think of one another when they think of all of their siblings combined. I don’t believe there is a single instance of Jon thinking about Sansa individually or vice versa at any point in all of ASOIAF to date. Jon does think about Arya very fondly a whole lot, and vice versa. In fact, there is way more evidence for Jon x Arya than there is for Jon x Sansa (though I don’t care at all for either ship). But then again, maybe that’s why some Sansa stans insist on the Jonsa ship? Because they hate the idea of their favourite male character being closer to their favourite female character’s “rival” (Arya) than their favourite female character in question (Sansa)? I also think some people watched the show and saw how close Sansa and Jon seemed to be in the last few seasons and conflated that with some unseen truth that must exist in the books, even though we all know that pretty much everything in season 6 of GOT and onwards was bullshit.
Which brings me to my final point, which is that a lot of hardcore Stansas and Arya stans insist on this character war, and push the extreme idea that Sansa and Arya are enemies instead of… sisters that don’t get along.

What do you consider to be Daemon Targaryen's true motivation/desire? I remember in the comments of your deleted fic you mentioned it wasn't simply power or the Iron Throne.
I think acknowledgment.
D*emon T*rgaryen on the surface is everything that House T*rgaryen could hope for: a prolific warrior/swordsmen, prince, dragonrider. It was him who raised an army for his brother, and I wonder what that says about Viserys, could he not raise one himself? That even with people’s dislike of him, he was still able to find allies that backed his brother because of he, himself. It must rankle him, as the years go on and he sees how weak Viserys is and even when he’s made his brother’s heir, it’s not solidified or even wanted by the people. Viserys went so far as continuing to get Aemma pregnant, even with her miscarriage and ultimately going so far as to having her cut open in his want of a son.
I don’t think he loved Rhaenyra, not truly. She was a means to an end, and I doubt any of her bastards would’ve grown old enough to inherit the throne, without him finding a way to get rid of them for his own Valyrian children to be the rightful heirs. After all, we know how much he wanted a Valyrian bride. I doubt truthfully and honestly, he would stomach those bastards for long, not when he has finally gotten two male children who look like Valyrians.
I think that had to hurt too. lol His niece being heir and then her having bastards who are so obviously not her husband’s. Once again, he’s looked over. His actions against his brother, against the nobility, scream for attention, for acknowledgment. For someone to say, “perhaps he’s more than what we thought” but in a positive way. In the beginning of the end, he won right. His sons lived and became kings, but it was also his last two male descendants that saw to the toppling of his own house. Even more funny, it’s Robert, a man who claimed the Iron Throne through his T*rgaryen grandmother who became king, who hated all things T*rgaryen. But even he was murdered as well.

Ship: Loras x Renly
I ship it!
What made you ship it?
I like their story: they knew each other since they were young, Loras was Renly's squire and probably their relationship went like starting as friends and then became lovers. Years pass and Loras is knighted and he's still with Renly and Renly marries Margaery due to political alliance with the Tyrells to get the IT and Renly names Loras Lord Commander of the Rainbow Guard, although Renly was later killed by Mel and Stannis' shadow baby and since then Loras has been mourning Renly.
What are your favourite things about the ship?
It's sad but the quotes of Loras mourning Renly are so beautiful and heartbreaking:
"When the sun has set, no candle can replace it…"
"I buried him with mine own hands, in a place he showed me once when I was a squire at Storm's End. No one shall ever find him there to disturb his rest." He looked at Jaime defiantly. "I will defend King Tommen with all my strength, I swear it. I will give my life for his if need be. But I will never betray Renly, by word or deed. He was the king that should have been. He was the best of them."
Is there an unpopular opinion on your ship?
I think don't have any unpopular opinions.

Since you've been talking about them a bunch lately I was wondering do you have any hcs about daenaera and aegon?
Not really because unlike some other characters we actually have a decent amount of info on them 😂 so we don’t have to rely on headcanons
I think they had a much better marriage than most in Westeros and considering you would think Aegon would be a bad husband but he actually cared about her. Like the fact that he was terrified of dragons but didn’t try to control her and keep her away from Morning says a lot

Jorah Mormont is an ASOIAF equivalent of a "Nice Guy": Jorah thinks that just by being superficially courteous, Daenerys would eventually have sex with him and when that didn't happen and Daenerys exiled him, he threw a temper tantrum, refusing to acknowledge his role in the mess.
I think Jorah is all of that, no wonder the showrunners read and said "oh poor thing, he got friendzoned" and villanized Dany for not wanting him.
The thing that worries me is that i am not sure the intended framing GRRM tried to give him. I want to believe he is being written exactly like the creepy guy he seems to me. After all, there are other "entitled nice guy tm" types on the book: Petyr,Tyrion and Lysa is a female version. Both Petyr and Lysa are framed as bad guys, Little Finger is just smarter about it, while Tyrion i am not sure if that was the intention but to me he seems to be on a corruption arc, he is the less bad and you are supposed to like him which is what makes it tragic how he keeps losing himself and his kindness more and more.
With Ser Jorah it will come down to what will happen to him in the following books, if they take the path of the show where he is seen like a tragic hero that never got the girl or like the entitled creep he is, one of many people who don't respect Dany as a queen because of her age and gender.

ALSO hmmm ships/pairings you like? platonic, romantic, psychosexual, fucked up, etc ♡♡♡
NOW THIS is truly The Question of all time ur literally the best for asking
-Theon/Robb: something so intimate about betraying your best friend for your own identity and personal gain. They are so Greek tragedy I am obsessed. I should’ve been with him I should’ve died with him GOD the pain of it all
-Brienne/Jamie: I LOVE THE INVERSION OF BEAUTY AND THE BEAST it is just so good. Jamie is a fucking loser maiden trapped in a tower and Brienne is his savior. And just the idea that they make the other person better after spending so long either being terrible (Jamie) or just being shunned by the world (Brienne) makes me want to cry I love them they deserve happiness
-Stannis/Davos: old man yaoi activate! Literally something so crazy about a guy cutting off your fingers so you decide to name your son after him. Such a strange dynamic and not healthy at all but man oh man is it good. The idea that Davos has no power and is always wondering if Stannis is going to listen to him or lock him away? Unstable! Toxic! Just what we all need!
Dany/another girl: I literally don’t care who but men have done NOTHING but disappoint her she needs a gf and some peace of mind
Dany/Jon (platonic): I know they’re def gonna end up together but me personally I think that Dany wouldn’t be romantically attracted to someone like Jon, who tends to disrespect other ppl in authority or just fly off the cuff in general. Also I’m tired of everyone sexualizing Dany the minute they come into contact with her but them as buddies would be so good! Autistic dragon girl with depressed nights watch member #38764 is just a recipe for best friends
Ned/Cat: mom and dad. The pinnacle for healthy relationships if we ignore the whole “this is random my bastard son no I won’t tell you anything even though we’ve been married fifteen years”
Cersei/Ned/Cat/Jamie: they can split off into pairs or do it as a foursome idc but they need to hate fuck at least once. For me
Alicent/Rhaenyra: nothing more personal to me than a isolated loser of a lesbian trying her best to repress her crush on the social butterfly who has her eye on someone else. I love them so bad. They also need to hate fuck.

I'm surprised how only Rhaegar is acknowledge as "pedo" for his relationship with Lyanna in the fandom, but no one cares or mentions that Oberyn Martell sleep with a 16 year old (and beat Obara's mother), Cersei sleep with Lancel, also a kid, Renly had a relationship with Loras, another kid, and Robert impregnated a 14 year old. Robert also was obsessed with the "teeneger Lyanna" 20 years after her death. And there are many other examples in the series. Rape, cheating and relationships with kids.
Yet, these are popular characters in the fandom. I'm not sure why only Rhaegar and Lyanna are problematic. Should people be more consistent?
Welcome to asoiaf fandom, which should be renamed the double standard fandom!
If people truly had a problem with the age gap between Rhaegar and Lyanna, they would also apply the same standards to other asoiaf adults who have or had relationships with teenagers. But they don't. Because the don't care as much for the age gap or the cheating as much as proving that Rhaegar and Targaryens as a whole are the vilest people ever, while Starks (Lyanna's family) and Martells (Elia's family) are the purest snowflakes who never did anything wrong .
I feel the need to clarify here that I totally understand fans who feel uncomfortable with Rhaegar x Lyanna and other relationships with similar age gap. And I respect it if they don't feel comfortable talking about these kind of pairings.
However, if any fan claims that ships like Rhaegar x Lyanna are problematic within the story due to the age gap, they are totally missing the author's intentions. Unlike them, Martin doesn't find pairings with big age gaps problematic and in Rhaelya's case he even finds them romantic.

hii, i saw on ur twitter account where u said that the amethyst empress/bloodstone emperor theory was dumb can u elaborate on why im just genuinely curious because i personally find the theory plausible and every person i've met is of the same opinion ur like the only person i've met who dislikes it and im just so curious on why?
hey there!!
so first let me just say that if i sounded dickish and mean spirited about it, that was not my intention. i never wanna yuck anyones yum, i personally love a wacky theory!
(also when i say ‘you’ i mean the general, not you personally)
don’t get me wrong, there are parallels or similarities between the two side by side, but I think it kinda ends there? i think a lot of the DEEP lore of twoiaf, one can read as having echoes and similarities all over over the map, but i dont think is meant to be taken entirely literal.
but really, why i don’t like that theory is because i think it totally misinterprets what the Dance was about and why it’s important to the overall lore of asoiaf and the themes of the main series.
i think it also kind of unfairly paints the story as Good v Evil, which again, wildly misinterprets and simplifies the Dance as a big evil done to Rhaenyra personally by an evil little brother Aegon.
it’s about The Family and how it tore itself apart under the weight of its own hubris and the feudal system that built the tinderbox for the whole thing to implode eventually.
it’s very much about the unfolding tragedy one after another after another until all that’s left are two deeply traumatized children. it’s about the dangers of dragons and why history doesn’t remember them fondly. it’s the pretext on which arianne tries to put myrcella on the throne. it’s about the needless deaths of innocents over a family squabble that got out of control, and the fundamental flaw of a feudalist system that nation could be torn apart because of an inheritance dispute. it’s a History Story. it’s not really about the Long Night at all.
Plus this kinda wildly misinterprets Aegon as a character? he has a lot of flaws, for sure, but the harbinger of primordial evil because he got caught up in a bit of legal drama? that’s giving him way too much credit lol.
And again, I really dont care about theories, even if they’re ones i dont personally agree with. i’ve been in the general asoiaf sphere for a very long time so that’s nothing new. but i think what irked me about this one, is for a number of people, having this specific theory and framework in mind totally alters the way they watch and engage with the show at all.
so like when the posters were dropped, people are genuinely mad that it was rhaenyra and alicent and not rhaenyra and aegon bc duh its about This Theory … and it’s like? no? you made that up..
so if people are watching the show with that theory in mind, then it does completely cloud how you think about these characters and i think restricts one’s engagement to a Good/Evil dichotomy. and if i’m being really honest, a lot of people who i’ve seen go really hard on this theory are people who already hated alicent/greens and invented it to justify diminishing alicent’s role in the story, and amplifying why rhaenyra is basically the main character of twoiaf, second to dany. which is doing just too much.
but the big, and i think the most important one, is that it’s absolutely absurd for people to confidently and definitively say that THIS is what the show is about and the marketing/show not aligning with that is a total failure based on niche asoiaf lore that most show!watchers don’t even know about, wasn’t even mentioned in the previous series, and only exists in a separate book of lore and stories that may not even be true anyways.

Besides Dettles what other f&b/asoiaf ships do you like? I (obviously) like Dettles, Alysmond, Book!Jamie x Book!Brienne, but I have a small piece of my heart carved out for the crack-ship that is Rhaemond. And I wouldn’t hate a Book!Daenerys x Book!Jon relationship or friendship 🤷🏽‍♀️
So for me, I like Alysmond as well(it's got similar vibes to Dettles), Daemon x Laena(we were completely robbed in the show), Sansa x Sandor(lol controversial but I love the beauty and the beast vibes), and Jonsa(they had great chemistry on the show, but it's kinda a crackish ship, especially for the books).
As far as crack ships go, again same with Rhaemond, which should be way more popular than it is, and oddly enough Cersei x Ned which even by crack ship standards is overly crackish🤣

Ship: Jon Snow x Alys Karstark
I ship it!
What made you ship it?
Although I also ship Alys and Sigorn, and Jon was like their wedding planner, I find Jon and Alys interactions in ADWD very cute and that plus some beautiful edits that I see here on Tumblr made me ship them.
What are your favourite things about the ship?
One of the things I like is the parallels of Alys and Lyanna, Northern girls running away from unwanted marriages, ans finding help in someone else to do it, Lyanna with Rhaegar and Alys traveled to Castle Black and asked Jon for help and he decided to do it. Also like I said above their interactions are cute and Alys is Jon's type of woman he likes.
Is there an unpopular opinion on your ship?
I don't think there's an unpopular opinion now fot this ship, it's a rare or minor ship so the people who ships them is a small portion of the fandom and I think more or less we all share similar takes.
