Weird Questions for Writers (because writers are weird)
Taken from this list
As I said, this is just me comprising the asks so that I remember which ones I've already answered!
Now, onto the mess that is my writing routine:
1. What font do you write in? Do you actually care or is that just the default setting?
2. If you had to give up your keyboard and write your stories exclusively by hand, could you do it? If you already write everything by hand, a) are you a wizard and b) pen or pencil?
3. What is your writing ritual and why is it cursed?
My writing ritual is to obsess over an idea for weeks, thinking I haven't thought it out well enough, and when I do want to write the fic/next chapter I avoid it for the majority of the day. It gets late and I get tired but feel like I haven't been productive. That's when the first word garble appears!
4. What’s a word that makes you go absolutely feral?
"Apprehensive"
5. Do you have any writing superstitions? What are they and why are they 100% true?
Hmm, my superstition is (not only when it comes to writing but just about anything I create) that when I'm proud of something I've made it's probably mediocre for everyone else. Surprisingly, my "best" is usually my "Meh...", so I try to avoid feeling overly confident! (But it also helps to sketch everyone's favorite prophet before I start a new project--)
6. What is your darkest fear about writing?
7. What is your deepest joy about writing?
8. If you had to write an entire story without either action or dialogue, which would you choose and how would it go?
I would choose to write a story without dialogue. Because, and here it becomes sneaky, I could say just as much through interior monologue or describing the characters' facial expressions and body language. (Or even write 10k of exposition)
9. Do you believe in ghosts? This isn’t about writing I just wanna know
No, I do not. My opinion changes, however, when it gets dark and something's lurking behind the door, ready to fry me with lasers.
10. Has a piece of writing ever “haunted” you? Has your own writing haunted you? What does that mean to you?
WIPs haunt me. They're like incomplete circles and I can't start something new without them being finished. (That's why I don't like writing multi-chapter fics. The needed commitment is just super big.)
11. Do you believe in the old advice to “kill your darlings?” Are you a ruthless darling assassin? What happens to the darlings you murder? Do you have a darling graveyard? Do you grieve?
12. If a genie offered you three writing wishes, what would they be? Btw if you wish for more wishes the genie turns all your current WIPs into Lorem Ipsum, I don’t make the rules
Wish 1: AO3 doesn't destroy my format when I import text from Google Docs.
Wish 2: Writing comments on other people's works comes more easily to me.
Wish 3: Just... everything I write is enjoyable(?)
13. What is a subject matter that is incredibly difficult for you to write about? What is easy?
14. Do you lend your books to people? Are people scared to borrow books from you? Do you know exactly where all your “lost” books are and which specific friend from school you haven’t seen in twelve years still possesses them? Will you ever get them back?
15. Do you write in the margins of your books? Dog-ear your pages? Read in the bath? Why or why not? Do you judge people who do these things? Can we still be friends?
*cringes at the thought* Nope, I like my books clean and basically unused (so that I can make some profit if I decide to sell them later). It's a different topic if the text is digital, though. The pens that come with most tablets hafta be used!
16. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever used as a bookmark?
I've made this Harry Potter wand out of wood, hot glue, and sparkly stones once. It served its purpose to weigh down the book pages but then it slid off and broke. Oh, well.
17. Talk to me about the minutiae of your current WIP. Tell me about the lore, the history, the detail, the things that won’t make it in the text.
18. Choose a passage from your writing. Tell me about the backstory of this moment. How you came up with it, how it changed from start to end. Spicy addition: Questioner provides the passage.
"Ah-ha! Here it is!" he exclaimed, holding the mysterious object aloft between his bony fingers.
The young girl squinted at the colorfully-striped cone, only realizing it was a party hat when Tío Bruno managed to attach it to the donkey's forehead.
She squealed in amazement as she saw the picture-perfect mythical animal blinking at her in all its radiant glory. However, this did not erase all the dreadful thoughts she had."
Right, so, I do watch Encanto quite often and there are always new things to discover. Then, while I was standing in front of the mirror, trying to make my eyebrows look symmetrical, I connected the party hats Osvaldo gave to Mirabel (in the "Not-Special Special" Basket) with the scene where Luisa's jumping over pink clouds with her unicorn donkeys. Party hats look like cones and cones look like unicorn horns-- Dumb, I know. But know who else would have these dumb ideas? Bruno.
19. Tell me a story about your writing journey. When did you start? Why did you start? Were there bumps along the way? Where are you now and where are you going?
20. If a witch offered you the choice between eternal happiness with your one true love and the ability to finally finish, perfect, and publish your dearest, darlingest, most precious WIP in exactly the way you’ve always imagined it — which would you choose? You can’t have both sorry, life’s a bitch
21. Could you ever quit writing? Do you ever wish you could? Why or why not?
22. How organized are you with your writing? Describe to me your organization method, if it exists. What tools do you use? Notebooks? Binders? Apps? The Cloud?
23. Describe the physical environment in which you write. Be as detailed as possible. Tell me what’s around you as you work. Paint me a picture.
24. How much prep work do you put into your stories? What does that look like for you? Do you enjoy this part or do you just want to get on with it?
25. What is a weird, hyper-specific detail you know about one of your characters that is completely irrelevant to the story?
26. How do you get into your character’s head? How do you get out? Do you ever regret going in there in the first place?
27. Who is the most stressful character you’ve ever written? Why?
Aside from the fact that writing anyone ever is pretty stressful, I'd say it's Félix (Encanto). I couldn't pin down his personality at first without it seeming ooc and picturing his role in the Madrigals' dynamics.
28. Who is the most delightful character you’ve ever written? Why?
29. Where do you draw your inspiration? What do you do when the inspiration well runs dry?
30. Talk to me about the role dreams play in your writing life. Have you ever used material from your dreams in your writing? Have you ever written in a dream? Did you remember it when you woke up?
31. Write a short love letter to your readers.
32. What is a line from a poem/novel/fanfic etc that you return to from time and time again? How did you find it? What does it mean to you?
33. Do you practice any other art besides writing? Does that art ever tie into your writing, or is it entirely separate?
34. Thoughts on the Oxford comma, Go:
35. What’s your favorite writing rule to smash into smithereens?
36. They say to Write What You Know. Setting aside for a moment the fact that this is terrible advice…what do you Know?
37. If you were to be remembered only by the words you’ve put on the page, what would future historians think of you?
38. What is something about your writing process YOU think is Really Weird? If you are comfortable, please share. If you’re not comfortable, what do you think cats say about us?
39. What keeps you writing when you feel like giving up?
40. Please share a poem with me, I need it.
(Don't judge me for this one lmao.)
The glass is dark, your reflection green
What do you feel when you fall on your spleen?
Is it pain? Is it greed?
Or are you-- freed?

OC Askbox Game
I'm avoiding writing and you probably are too, so let's at least think about our characters while we do it.
You know the drill- send me a number (ONE number, you can come back for more) and I'll answer for an OC of your choice (if you know their name) or my choice (if you don't know their name). Feel free to name some of your OCs in the tags of your reblog, if you want to be asked about them.
How did you choose their name?
Were they created for the story, or was the story created for them?
Do they have a love interest, and was that their choice or yours?
Do they have a best friend? If so, how did they meet? If not, have they ever/why never?
Did they have a pet as a child?
What catalyzed their introduction to the plot?
What attribute of them (some facet of their personality, their history, their look, or whatever etc) would you find most important to somehow preserve if they were transplanted to an AU fanfic?
If your character's financial situation were to suddenly flip (someone poor becoming rich, someone rich becoming poor, etc), how well would they handle it? What would be the first thing they would do?
If your character could have handed their role in the plot to someone else, would they have?
Free Space #1: Which of your OCs would be most likely to survive a zombie apocalypse? Which would die immediately?
Does your character have a pet peeve?
Has your character committed any crimes (per their universe's laws)? If not, which crime would your character most likely commit?
Who is your character's closest (by relation, fondness, or distance) blood relative?
How does your character feel about riding horses (or your world's closest approximation of a horse if it lacks horses)?
Is your character's first instinct fight or flight? Is there something that could force them to do the opposite?
What is your character's favorite leisure activity?
Is your character holding any grudges? Are they likely to stop?
If your character were trapped on a deserted island, what three things would they want to have with them? Which person would they absolutely hate to be trapped there with? Which person would they enjoy being trapped there with?
Does your character having any health issues, whether they're aware of them or not?
Free Space #2: Which of your OCs would you most like to meet in person, if they could become real (or you could visit them) for a day?
Final Question: Ask me your own question about my OC
Remember: play nice! Send an ask to the person you reblogged this from, and try to send a few to folks that reblog from you!

Eve's weird question time-ask game
Okay I started to feel wayyy to overwhelmed about people reblogging that ask thingy so I made a solution. Ask game about weird questions that pop into my head that no one else probably won't ask. I'll send everyone an ask of couple of the questions when they reblog this <3
POV: your wip has a fandom
1. What's the weirdest ship you think that has a potential to have many fics
2. What's the weirdest discorse going around?
3. What song is owneed by your wips fandom?
4. What's a crack ship the fandom invents?
5. What's a faceclaim you know would happen but you hate it?
6. What's a scene with most fanedits or fanarts
7. Who's the babygirl, girlboss, himbo and mother of your wip? You know you have one for each
"Because it's funny"
8. What's the funniest crime happening in your wips?
9. Dumbest detail you invented just because it's funny?
10 Unrealistic scene you have in because it has the rule of cool/funny
11. How would the story change if that one character could have a gun? You know the character.
All the great love stories-core
12. What type of romance trope is your most used one?
13. What would your characters do in real life (only applicable to ocs in fantasy or scifi settings)
14. What alternative universe would they most fit in?
15. What would they do in some other writeblrs universe?
16. What exsisting media would you character slay at?
Just pure randomness
17. What would your characters be in a band? What's their bands name?
18. Which of your ocs would survive if you put all of them into a hunger games situation?
19. Someone elses writeblr oc that you are simping
20. This is an very important question: which of your ocs would have a stan account? And who for?
21. And other important: which would be a kpop stan?
22. Is there a writeblr that you miss?
Lol. Why do I love these. Wpuld probably do more
Tagging some people that liked the ask thingy: @enchanted-lightning-aes @trout-scout @dyrewrites @guessillcallitart @little-peril-stories @circuslollipop @valanke @nonsenseramble

I changed my mind. Hater behavior is undeserved, when it comes to works, & idgaf about holding creators accountable when their games are mid, anymore.
#em.txt#now i only care about how you treat your workers tbh#so there are still series i hate. but now I don't want to be mean to people who put time & effort into making shit#this is about post shift 2. people were too fuckin mean to Rjac for a game he made for free#& as a bitch who loves that game a lot i see your criticisms i understand. but you're not gonna be mean to him abt this#that fucking teen that held that interview & told him he needed to be held accountable for his mistakes. god#he made this shit for free across four years. what can happen in four years? what did he work through?#to deliver you a free game. even if you don't fucking like the game if you invite a creator on to talk about their works#you don't fucking talk to them the way uyeah did. shit was cruel & uncalled for.#this game is fucking good but it's forever going to be burried as a game that's complicated with weird tutorials#ps2 is fun. you should try it. if you don't get it -- ask. I'll answer any question at any time#i will vc you i will write a text doc -- whatever you want. more people need to experience this fucking game#it's compelling in a way few games are to me.#i can homestly only compare it to rain world but not for a reason that's overt & easy to explain. more in how it feels to play#rather than what you do.#man. idk. i gotta learn how to talk about shit i love without being mean now#this started because i was talking mad shit to my friends & it asked me to stop because i was downtalking something she loved a lot#& i realized this isn't fun for people. i thought we were having fun but tbh? I'm just a mean negative bitch#& that's not fun. that's mean.#i have to redo this character arc from when i was 13 because i guess I didn't learn it the first time around#cynicism doesn't make you funny or cool. it makes you mean & unfun to be around. finding kind things to say is tougher.#if you can present your criticism nicely then maybe you can criticize too#but that alone does not a good critique make & it definitely don't make you fun at parties#listen. i am still gonna be a bitch. but i am going to be less of one.

"Book Worm" asks: 43 & 44?
thanks patch :D
43. Title of a book you own that's in the worst physical condition you have. Explain what happened to it. Post a picture if you want.
aslkdf i think it's this one, Freddy Plays Football by Walter R. Brooks. the Freddy books are a series about talking animals from like the 1920s-1950s that i was obsessed with as a kid mostly bc my library happened to have a ton of them. i don't own very many but one is this paperback that must have gotten SOAKED at some point--I don't remember how, but the entire thing is waterlogged. but it's dry now! and readable! and these books are a little hard to find and i'm sentimental about it so i'm not getting rid of it
Tumblr media
44. The book(s) whose stories have become part of your very makeup.
man there's so many. the aforementioned Freddy series. Warrior Cats. The Boxcar Children, especially the first three books. Lord of the Rings and Narnia are both deeply in there. when i re-read Percy Jackson recently i was startled by how many times i was like "oh so THAT'S where i first encountered this trope." The Hunger Games series. The Mysterious Benedict Society. Ella Enchanted. A Little Princess. the Rowan Hood series. The Enchanted Forest Chronicles. The Penderwicks. From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E Frankweiler. The Westing Game. a lot of Eva Ibbotson's books, but especially The Island of the Aunts and The Star of Kazan. a lot of Andrew Clements' books, but especially No Talking and The School Story. i could keep going and i'm also sure there's some important ones i'm forgetting bc they're not on my shelves.
send me book asks to answer!!

for the writer ask
💭🚦💛 💌
💭 What inspires you and your writing?
this is a real marketing major-ass answer (from your local marketing major), but i love sharing knowledge and telling stories. writing’s one of those things that’s a bit of a compulsion for me—i’m always writing something. i took a five-year break from fiction writing before i stumbled ass-first into fanfic last year, but even in those years when i was focusing on my career, i was writing guides and trainings and a ton of other stuff—just not anything fun, lol.
writing is also so cathartic. sometimes i set out to tell a specific story, but at other times, a particular emotion gets me in a vice grip and i have to put it to words before it’ll go away. my stories tend to wind up as emotional dumping grounds as a result.
i don’t write things pulled directly from my own life, but there are bits and pieces of myself and things that have happened to me scattered throughout stuff i’ve written, and usually when i’m about 75% of the way through a piece, i’ll realize it’s absolutely related to something i’m currently going through. funny how art works that way, even when you don’t intend for it to.
and occasionally i just have a fire lit under my ass about an issue and i get so hot about it that i gotta compile my thoughts. looking at you, silver snow
🚦 What sort of endings do you prefer to write: ambiguous, bad, happily ever after, etc.?
look, i would love nothing more for them girls (pick whichever girls you please) to have a happy ending where they kiss and are stupid in love for the rest of forever. i love reading those kinds of stories. but in my heart of hearts, i love an ambiguous ending. i like when there are still questions after the story ends. i like thinking about where things could go or how the characters will go on after the events of the story. like, shared space could be read as having a happy ending, but i don’t really think it is. and with the victors; the vestiges, well. you’ll see :0)
come to think of it, i’m not sure i’ve ever written a happily-ever-after, but i don’t think i’ve ever written a 100% bad ending, either. i read too many bury-your-gays stories and watched too many sad european queer coming-of-age films in my youth to ever be happy putting that kinda thing out into the world. i want to write about love with all its ugliness, but not despair or hopelessness. i think what most appeals to me about an ambiguous ending is that lingering feeling of hope. it’s not the same as the kind you get from a happily-ever-after, and something about it speaks to me.
💛 What is the most impactful lesson you’ve learned about writing?
honestly? how to take criticism. i took a creative writing class in high school where we had to read our work out loud and then receive feedback on it from the other writers in the class, and that did a lot for me. going into that class, i’d already been writing for forever and had won some little local writing contests and such, so i was a wee bit of a pretentious douche. but i’d never gotten real critique before beyond, essentially, spelling and grammar checks. it humbled me lol. it made me grow so much as a writer, and i could see where i needed to improve or where my head was wedged way too far up my own ass for others to follow. it also helped me recognize strengths i didn’t know i had, and that was huge. it’s easy to get into a self-doubt spiral when making creative work, and good, constructive criticism can do so much to help avoid that.
to this day i love critique. i like knowing what worked or didn’t work so that i can continue to improve as a writer and do better next time. did my themes land? did something really work, but another part fall flat? i’d love to know!! i try to treat everything i write as practice for the next thing, and frankly that’s helped take some of the pressure off so i don’t go into total Perfectionist Mode.
i know critique is kind of a sensitive topic in fan spaces, but i think that’s because a lot of people have gotten unsolicited criticism that is purely critical and isn’t constructive. but getting good, constructive criticism will do so much to help a person grow as a writer. it’s scary, and sometimes it hurts! writing is very personal for most people, and it stings when things aren’t received the way you think they will be. but i know i’ve grown more from having my failures pointed out (and, very importantly, having the good things about those efforts acknowledged) than anything else.
💌 Is there a favorite trope you like to write?
actually Just answered this in another ask!
#sterge.eml#foxyjeongin#thank you for playing my little game and letting me talk about stories (and about me lmao)#sorry this is kind of a long post#i talk too much#i think i sound pretentious in this ask whoops. sorry#unfortunately i kind of am. i’m working on it.#… i guess the short answer to that first question is ‘emotions and mental illness’ lol#if you follow me on twitter (not recommended as it’s just me complaining about the weather and not being able to ride my motorcycle)#you know that every time i bring up my writing in therapy my therapist rocks my shit by revealing the story is#in fact.#NOT about what i thought it was about#or more accurately it’s ALSO secretly about whatever’s going on with me in real life lmao#y’know what’s really fun? looking back at something you wrote in a manic or depressive episode and going ah. hm. interesting.#the signs were. in fact. there.#(this is in fact not fun and i don’t like it. but it always happens.)#everything i write is accidentally Also about being bipolar. no getting around that#i tend to have issues organizing my thoughts and feelings to even figure out how tf i’m feeling#(forget making any attempt at doing so verbally. i have chronic foot-in-mouth disorder and accidentally say shit i don’t mean all the time)#but writing stuff down has always helped me sort through whatever mess is going on in my noggin and i love it for that#learning how to take critique is my no. 1 piece of writing advice but no. 2 is to read#read the classics. find out why they’re classics. read weird shit. read shit you don’t like. find things you like about em anyway.#and importantly: figure out WHY you do or don’t like it#it’s funny to re-read a book i haven’t read in a long time and discover OH. that’s where i get that technique from.#or that’s where i got that idea. or that’s why i had X thing happen in this story.#or why i like this type of character or scenario#nothing’s truly new and original#we’re all an amalgamation of influences and that ruuuuules#celebrate it!!!

first of all, just wanted to say that I’m loving all the ask games you’re reblogging!
for the OTP questions:
1, 3, 42, 46, aaaaaaand 50 for Codyfox?
❤️❤️❤️ they're fun! thanks for asking
1. Who is the early bird/ Who is the night owl?
cody's the only one here who has something resembling a normal sleep schedule i think lmao. he likes sleeping in and he tends to stay too late doing Things, so i'd say that left to his own devices he's more of a night owl.
and i feel like moving to coruscant fucked fox's sleep schedule forever lol hard to keep one when you work nights and days and live somewhere where sunlight doesn't even reach most places
3. Who hogs the cover/ Who loves to cuddle?
cody. he tends to ooze in his sleep.
(fox complains about it but he low/high key loves it.)
42. Who is the neat freak?
not cody! (messy cody agenda 2k24) fox isn't that tidy either but compared to cody he's indeed a neat freak. and i feel like he doesn't like having too much stuff around, so his space usually looks pretty put together just because there's not a lot of things in it
46. Who has the longer food order?
cody!!!! one of my headcanons is that he Likes food: he's curious about it and he likes trying new stuff and he gets weirdly intense about it: he is a bit too adventurous about it and he likes trying out new (weird) combinations.
fox has like three or four places he really likes and he sticks to those. he will try new ones now and then but he's already made up his mind and you won't be able to change it even if you're right and he knows it.
50. Who is the hopeless romantic?
oof.
They Don't Do That. that's way too vulnerable and open for them, and it would mean they have taken their respective heads out of their asses and that they have learned to be open and honest with each other instead of being assholes in each other's direction.
but now that i think about it i think that fox, left to his own devices, is more prone to Big Gestures? i feel like he's the one who wants to believe in the. idk. redeeming power of love and stuff like that, even if he doesn't. cody's more the dogged devotion/eat you whole and don't even leave the bones kind of guy. unstoppable force (i'd kill a man for you) vs unmovable object (i'd take a bullet for you).

for Alex - ❤️‍🩹 Would your f/o ever hurt you? Under what circumstances, or why not?
I love this particular selfship because asks about it always have one half of my brain like 'aww lovely daydream' and the other half of my brain is just sitting there grimacing.
Inside of me there are two wolves.
The funny thing is that I'm not so much of a masochist as a... sadist at my self-inserts' expense? If that makes sense?
Anyways let's get down to the question!!! Which is from my dark selfship asks, for selfships that aren't as fluffy as the usual assumptions in this community <3 I'll answer it under a readmore for folks who want to avoid the physical and mental abuse discussions :I
The short answer is yes, absolutely, Alex hurts me regularly for his own entertainment. I think that he sees me very much as an extension of himself, and that leads to some interesting dynamics.
I grew up with Alex as a constant in my life, and he's been testing my limits ever since I can remember. Twisting my arm, cutting my hair, stabbing me in the leg under the dinner table, I literally don't know a home life without Alex there as a constant unpredictable force.
The balance with Alex is that he doesn't want to hurt me "permanently," and he does that oh-so-classic tactic where he moves in cycles that are slow enough for me to forgive him before he hurts me again.
He's also protective of me around strangers, and even to our parents sometimes. They're not dangerous the same way that Alex is, but they tend to be harsher with me because they know that I won't talk back, and Alex gets in between us when I'm upset. Reinforces the idea that it's me and him against the world.
He lets his friends hurt me in very prescribed ways, and he's angry with them when they overstep. He uses me as both a peace offering and a way to possess his friends through me, in a way that he himself can't/won't. I don't think that he's aware of that factor, and I don't think that I'm aware of that factor at the age of my standard self-insert, but it's true either way.

39. What keeps you writing when you feel like giving up?
Weird Questions For Writers
39: What keeps you writing when you feel like giving up?
If this is about giving up writing, I can't say I've ever really turned my back on the whole concept. I enjoy it, I just bounce between projects or take a break a lot.
If this is about giving up as in "being in a state of giving up on the whole", then it's...mostly escapism. Or hope that things can be better, in a way.
Thanks for sending this in!

9, 15 and 20 for the TARDIS ask bc it's genius
Thank you!! I'm so glad you like the game 😊
9. Which attack on/injury to the TARDIS was the most painful to watch for you?
The Flux, definitely. Just the duration of it, her hurting more and more and then the Doctor dismissing it for so long because she couldn't deal with it. And then in that first episode when they kept hitting her with the hammer on top of it 😢 leave her alone, she's already hurt!
I have to say while I loved eotd, I was kinda disappointed by how easily it all got resolved in the end. I suffered so much with her, I wanted it to have more of an impact.
15. Who among the companions/strays do you think the TARDIS disliked the most?
Hmm, I haven't watched any old who, so this is incomplete. I find this difficult.
I am tempted to say Clara because those two had the most tension in their relationship. Also because I am sure the TARDIS did not like the feeling of carrying someone around who had already died several times and could technically run into themselves if she wasn't careful where to land. But she also interacted with Clara way more than with most other companions which might be a sign she secretly respected her.
And then series 8 and 9 happened and in the end she made a memorial for Clara even though it would mean nothing to the Doctor anymore. So she definitely grew on her.
I want to give some (dis)honourable mentions to Dan, for saying he had a mate with a bigger ship, and Graham, for calling her a 'thing' (that happened right?) and getting crumbs all over her floors (def the member of the fam she liked the least as she adores both Yaz and Ryan).
But I think, actually, Rose might take the cake of most disliked companion. For the simple reason that she broke her and stupidly absorbed the time vortex energy. I think the TARDIS is quite cross about that. And then, as lovely as Rose is, in the bit of series 2 that I have seen she is very possessive of the Doctor. Which might make the TARDIS jealous because that is her thief.
And then Rose ends up hopping between universes - definitely feels off to the TARDIS now - and she herself has to fly to that universe to bring Rose back. Plus, you know, the whole seeing the Doctor suffer and seeing him making her beloved Martha suffer because Rose is gone. Which is not her fault, obviously, but I could believe it would antagonise the TARDIS nevertheless.
So, surprisingly maybe, I think the TARDIS likes Rose the least of all nuwho companions. But I haven't seen all of her run so take it with a grain of salt.
20. What's your favourite way you have included the TARDIS in a human AU/seen the TARDIS included in a human AU?
I have already answered this here :)
And I don't think I have ever written a human AU that featured the TARDIS. Except for the one scene of '36 questions about Who' that I started the other day (what am I doing?). She's a truck there :) Oh, also in the very unfinished 'Dancing with the Stars AU' she's a band name. Which is fun but not as worthy as a truck imo.

11, 25, 27 for the weird writer asks!
Aw, thank you so much! 💖
11. Do you believe in the old advice to “kill your darlings?” Are you a ruthless darling assassin? What happens to the darlings you murder? Do you have a darling graveyard? Do you grieve?
I'm absolutely horrible in how I over-write my first drafts, so yes, pretty much every fic I have that's over, say, 2k words or so has a bloody swath of murdered darlings in its wake. You'd think that I'd be pretty unaffected by it now but, yes, I do rather mourn a lot of them. Most of my wasted time on drafts is usually trying desperately to find some way to justify keeping a darling in there when I know, deep down, that it really serves no purpose and needs to go. 😭
However, I also have given myself permission to keep the occasional darling in there despite it serving no purpose because life is short and this is my fic and nobody paid for it or anything so, darn it, if I want to indulge in something, then I'm going to indulge in something, lol!
It's just a balance, what can I say? I do save every draft I've written and I have on occasion pulled out a darling and saved it separately so to more easily find it later but I've never really made use of any of them. Maybe one day!

25. What is a weird, hyper-specific detail you know about one of your characters that is completely irrelevant to the story?
Vannak from the Halo series has a sweet tooth and you can earn his unending, unswerving loyalty by keeping him supplied in homemade treats. 😛
Tumblr media
Vannak, when Kai asks if he's "sweet" on the person who keeps bringing him baskets of cookies and brownies and candy and... 😛
In related news: I tend to ship Vannak and Riz, whether or not the fic in question has Kai with John or not but I've been considering giving Vannak and Riz their own Readers like how John has the "15 Minutes" Reader and Kai has her own in "Recreation." So Vannak might get a baking-enthusiast Reader one of these days, who knows? 😉
27. Who is the most stressful character you’ve ever written? Why?
Tumblr media
Game!Chief, by far. Now, you might be thinking, "Um, Ais? You've never written game!Chief, so how can you say he's stressful?" That's because I've never written game!Chief as far as anybody knows. 😛
It's one of those things where I know nobody is ever going to mistake me for a military or hard sci-fi writer. I'm a romance writer, the rest of the stuff is just the environment I'm using to tell my silly little romance stories. I can justify that for the Halo TV series but I can't for the games. I think I'd be pretty well eviscerated for running game!Chief through my usual paces. 🤷‍♀️
Tumblr media
As a follow-up to the first question, before I finished writing this, I was hopping over to work on a fic and had to literally just kill one of my darlings in it. As much as it amused me to have Jorge throw shade at Emile, it really didn't serve a purpose in the story and was just a needless distraction. 'Cause this ain't a Halo: Reach fic. 👀😉

sary, thank you for the ask babe <33
from this ask game
How do you deal with self-doubts?
not well! lmao
mostly, i feel pretty good about my writing, because by the time im done with something i’ve done all i can and know if i spent one more moment on it im gonna hate it. but, when im writing for a new fandom or writing something new for me, i doubt myself a lot and it gets bad.
how i deal with it? i talk to my friends, maybe send it to them so they can read it and tell me their thoughts, or just rant and rant to them. because they’re the best, they always listen and i always feel better after
Favourite part of writing
outlining!
i talked about this before, but yeah, outlining the story is always the most fun part for me, so of course it’s my favourite. i do it by hand, in my notebook. every fic has a section/a few pages and i start to plan it out, adding notes, the songs that inspired the fic/some scenes, an important scene/exchange so i don’t forget, all the little details and parallels so i don’t lose the thread, all that kinda stuff
Least favourite part of writing
editing.
my biggest problem with editing is that i have to do it an infinite amount of times and it’s still not enough. i get sick of reading my own writing 10 times trying to fix every error and make sure it flows somewhat seamlessly, only to post and find a very obvious one i have somewhat missed the 100 times i edited it.
not a fun experience all around lol
Weirdest story idea you’ve ever had
Love is Stored in the Dumb Jokes
this one because it’s the only one i wrote with the intention of it being a joke/crack fic. not sure how well i managed that, but it turned out funny and im happy with it 🤷‍♀️

SUP GOOSE SUP I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS FOR YOU (ao3 wrapped) :3 :3 :3
(3) What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?
(18) The character that gave you the most trouble writing this year?
(30) Biggest surprise while writing this year?
(Referencing this ask meme)
HELLO HEYYY thank you!
This is something of a reduced exercise bc I've posted five (5) short fics this entire year,, (at time of drafting this),, but nonetheless! x)
3 -- I like how "The Zee And The Lonely Sky' turned out. At first it was a collection of journal entries (guess what else was happening this year that helped inspire that p: ), but then I felt like it'd drag a bit and that,, like,, fleshing out my in-universe idea of how my two characters knew each other would be worthwhile. And it was fun \o/  Fallen London game... good.
~
18 - This is a much longer answer bc I'm going to take the liberty of rambling about a character in a fic whomst I haven't actually posted yet: Justice  x) For my WriMo this year I finally started a DA fic that I've been vividly daydreaming about for like a month but never actually writing, as you do (/jk). It's a post-DA2 into DAI redemption arc for our favourite SJ spirit W; or recovery arc, maybe. This is the summary I made for it in November:
Through an act of violence Anders and Justice were, finally, separated, though at cost to them both. Afterwards, Justice found their way back into the mortal world almost entirely by accident. But only almost. Possessing the still-living body of an elf woman whose mind is somehow missing, once again unable to leave the flesh and unrecognizable to anyone who'd known them before, the spirit makes a pilgrimage of sorts to Skyhold. Apparently there had been an attempt at peace that had gone horribly wrong, and the rising powers tipping the balance in the Mage-Templar War had congregated at the top of the mountain. Justice would join them. When Justice gets to the castle, she finds Hawke, because of course she does.
The idea of a personification of justice as an elf woman in the uhhhh wretched hive that is the rest of DA lore was interesting to me; and also specifically a retroactive / parasocial spite response to trivia I read, that before DA2 was made the writers were considering having Justice merge with Velanna but David Gaider thought that would've made her ""more annoying than she already was"". Fuck off, David I feel like there's a decent amount of fic where Friendship Route Anders and Justice are separated and Anders is for the most part written as being better off, while Justice is able to go back to the Fade, and then just??? Fucks off, I guess?? And is never really mentioned again, which I was not entirely persuaded by. So I decided to try and write something that follows Justice through being separated from Anders and surviving it and then having to, you know,, Deal With All That, especially while the war is going on, bc, like,, I’ve always read Justice’s and Anders’ actions in DA2 as both of them being scared. Justice is more afraid of becoming a demon than anything else, even non-existence,, and it happened; it very nearly cost him and Anders their life even before Anders literally asked Hawke to murder them after committing the worst act they’d ever do.
And while I am uhhh not entirely disposed towards a lot of what happened in Inquisition, I really liked Cole’s storyline of reverting from being a demon, and then having a choice on what he wanted to become; I thought that it’d be interesting to follow Justice down a similar arc.
~
30 - Does "shipping characters I didn't necessarily think about at first" count as s surprise bc if so, Awakening-Anders/Justice, which is at least partially your fault SYRUP :p I specify Awakening bc, not to get kind of maudlin in the middle of a cheerful ask answer about shipping, but unfortunately, Dragon Age (that's it that's the joke)
