ASCII art by chatbot
I've finally found it: a use for chatGPT that I find genuinely entertaining. I enjoy its ASCII art.
Tumblr media
I think chatGPT's ASCII art is great. And so does chatGPT.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What's going on here? The chatbots are flailing. Their ASCII art is terrible, and their ratings are based on the way ratings should sound, not based on any capacity to judge the art quality.
Am I entertained? Okay, yes, fine. But it also goes to show how internet-trained chatbots are using common patterns rather than reality. No wonder they're lousy at playing search engine.

The Famicom/NES port of Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord (the first game in the series) was co-developed and published by ASCII Entertainment (aka Nexoft) and released in 1987. Jun Suemi designed the monsters for this port and his illustrations grace the trading cards shown here (a partial set only). From my understanding, one random card was included when you bought the game in Japan.

Live-Action 'She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat' Drama Adaptation Gets Second Season
On Monday, NHK announced that its live-action drama adaptation of Sakaomi Yuzaki's slice of life Yuri Manga She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat (Tsukuritai Onna to Tabetai Onna) is getting a sequel. The new series will have 20 total episodes, an increase from the first season's 10-episode run, and premiere in early 2024.
Tumblr media
She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat is based on Sakaomi Yuzaki's manga of the same name. It follows neighbors Nomoto, who likes to cook to destress, and Kasuga, who loves to eat. The two women bond over their shared love of food and slowly develop a more intimate relationship.
Tumblr media
NHKs announcement makes She Loves to Cook and She Love to Eat the first program in the Networks "YoruDora" drama block to get a sequel. It will air Monday through Thursday at 10:45 pm.
Leads Manami Higa and Emi Nishino are set to reprise their roles as Nomoto and Kasuga, respectively. They will be joined by, as of yet, unannounced newcomers as new characters Yako and Nagumo from the original series' third volume.
The first season was broadcast from November to December last year. It was directed by Yui Matsusaki and Niroyuki Nakata, with script writing by Yuri Yamada, and music by Gorou Itou. The staff is also returning for the second season.
Tumblr media
The manga's creator commented on the announcement, saying, "It's an honor just to have my work made into a drama. But I am extremely humbled to have it be the first in the block to have a sequel produced..." They went on to say, "I want to sit in front of the TV not just as the original author, but also as a fan and viewer. I'm really looking forward to it!
Both lead actors also commented on the announcement, expressing their excitement about the second season and the opportunity to reprise their roles and work alongside the crew again. Translations of their full comments are below.
Scriptwriter Yuri Yamada teased the contents of the upcoming second season, "In Season 2, we are increasing the elements of the original drama. What will happen to Nomoto's affection for Kasuga, will there be any progress in their relationship, and what sort of dishes will they eat together this time? We hope you look forward to it."
Tumblr media
The original She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat manga is serialized digitally by ASCII Media Works' as part of its COMIC It label. Yen Press licenses the series in English and is scheduled to release the third volume on October 17, 2023.
You can check out She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat volume 1 and 2 digitally and in paperback today: https://amzn.to/3qFrgtE
Reading official releases helps support creators and publishers. YuriMother makes a small commission from sales to help fund future coverage.
Full comments from Manami Higa (Nomoto):
A sequel has been announced!! Of course Nomoto loves cooking, but there is only a sense of accomplishment when there are other people to eat the delicious food. It's the same in the world of entertainment, and it is because there are so many people supporting us that we can create something worthwhile. We are happy to share it with you. In addition to Emi Nishino, who played Kasuga-san and because a close personal friend after we worked together on the previous season, new cast members will be joining us this time. I'm so looking forward to meeting them and to delivery the sequel to you.
Full comments from Emi Nishio (Kasuga):
I'm home! I am Emi Nishio. Continuing on from the previous season, I will be appearing as Kasuga. I was overjoyed when I got the news about the decision to produce a second season. I am so grateful that I'll be able to continue. Thank you very much. I'm really looking forward to working with Manami Higa, who plays the main character, and everyone I love from the She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat team. I'm excited to imagine how the story will progress and what new friends we will meet. It is the first sequel in the night drama block, and I'm very happy to say it is also the first "sequel" in my life. I value the opportunity and will focus to face Kasuga-san with new feeling. I hope to second season of She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat can reach many people.

Happy February 29th: the most void-y day of the year!
As a celebration of sorts, I (@ephemeralhorror) have decided everyone can get a little hint at a game I've been creating through the text-adventure program known as Inform 7. It's called "This Name Crawls Into Me"!
The above is a portion of ascii art I've crafted of the title. Making pieces like this for the project has been a uniquely entertaining and fulfilling experience. I highly recommend it to anyone interested (as well as giving Inform 7 a shot for yourselves).

L.O.L: Lack Of Love is an evolutionary life simulation game developed by Love-de-Lic and published by ASCII Entertainment for the Sega Dreamcast. The game was released only in Japan on November 2, 2000. The musical score for L.O.L.: Lack of Love was created by film composer Ryuichi Sakamoto, who was also the game's scenario writer. Nishi and Sakamoto met at Club Eden via a mutual friend and, through a series of e-mails, began discussing James Lovelock’s Gaia hypothesis. This theory states that the earth's living organisms function in harmony and respond to ecological changes in order for the planet to sustain life. Nishi explained about the game's message: "We should care for other people, life, the environment and nature. Sakamoto came up with the title. We wanted to question the way in which our lifestyle lacks love". Sakamoto's 13-track score is made up of only abstract, synthesized electronic music with most of the songs composed to evoke a sense of a sadness or loneliness in the listener.

Headline: Iconic Street Artist Unmasked: Dame Julie Andrews Revealed as the Mastermind Behind Banksy's Artistry
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LONDON, April 1, 2024 (PJV NEWSWIRE) -- In an astonishing turn of events that has rocked the art world to its core, Dame Julie Andrews, the celebrated singer, actress and star of family classics like Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music, has been unveiled as the creative mastermind behind the enigmatic street artist, Banksy.
The shock revelation was announced by a team of international researchers at the Tate Modern in London. Head researcher and world-renowned Banksy expert, Professor Savant of Whangdoodle University, explained that the team initially set out to map the geographical patterns of Banksy's work, but noticed an intriguing overlap with the locations of Dame Julie's UK appearances over the years.
Further investigation uncovered a series of coded messages hidden within Banksy's artworks that, when deciphered, spelled out various Andrews references. The celebrated Bansky stencil "Girl with Balloon" revealed a sequence of tiny numbers in the balloon string that corresponded to ASCII values spelling "How do you hold a moonbeam in your hand?". "Kissing Coppers" contained an anagrammatic mix of letters on the policemen's epaulettes that unscrambled to read, "The constable's responstable..." The smoking gun came when researchers discovered a hidden subterranean studio deep beneath the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, containing stencils, spray cans, and a collection of Andrews' vinyl records. Here the team located an early draft version of Banksy's "Flower Thrower" where the famous bouquet was a posy of edelweiss.
The revelation that Dame Julie is the hand behind the elusive graffiti superstar has stunned the entertainment and art worlds alike with critics scrambling to reevaluate the combined Andrews-Banksy oeuvre. Professor Savant discerns a deep, thematic link between Banksy's provocative street murals and Andrews' film characters, both of which challenge societal norms with a mix of whimsy and sharp commentary.
And the Banksy pseudonym? Savant believes it is a nod to the name of the family transformed by Andrews as the eponymous flying nanny in Mary Poppins. Just as Poppins upended the repressive Edwardian world of Mr Banks with her magical carpet bag of tricks, Andrews as Banksy has been sprinkling another brand of subversive mischief across the urban landscapes of the modern world.
Dame Julie Andrews has yet to make an official statement, but a source close to the star says, "Julie has always had a flair for the dramatic and she constantly seeks new outlets for her creative voice, so it's not all that surprising that she would take it to the streets!" THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS STORY. FURTHER DETAILS TO FOLLOW.

okay sorry for the wall of text that's going to ensue this sentence BUT I have a questions and brain worms
First: I wanted to ask a fellow TTV fan, do you get the feeling that he just has this. fluidity to his movement? Like he's so cool n all but he moves with such determination and power i don't know how DFB animates it. He attacks with clear-cut intent. He's not just running at enemies and slashing with his blade whenever he fancies, he uses calculated and precise movements to ensure his hits do the most damage possible. He's not just sitting down and RSOD'ing any toilets that fly near, he flies around and hunts, like a predator to prey.
And he knows his power too. He looks silly and goofy but he fully well knows he is a huge threat to the toilets. The other titans stalk after the Boss Toilets and just kill the ones in their way. TTV just stays around his area and hunts down all the regular toilets, waiting for the Boss Toilets to come to him.
But anyway. Now for the brainworms.
I have a headcanon that the different races have different ways to entertain themselves:
•Cameramen research human entertainment and try to recreate it. They find an old stadium used for Football? They found a book on how to play it in an old human library? You BET they're gonna play it. Speakermen join in with them occasionally and are not the best at it, and the majority of them rage quit on their first loss. TV's never join in as they view it as Childish and Improper, and often get angry at cameramen for playing these different human sports instead of fighting, so they teleport in and puncture the ball or whatever object is being used with their hand knives, then teleport out. Except, one TV secretly enjoys this: Polycephalies. When hes 100% sure the other TV's won't see him and flip their shit, he plays with the large cams, and they have THE MOST intense matches of whatever their playing. It's like the World Cup.
•Speakermen dance with music and play with their sound propulsion. The Orange Justice is their victory dance, however they love to try other dances for fun. They also like to work with some cameramen that record sounds, transmit them to the speakers and they compose music out of it. Of course, they play with their sound powers like we seen in Episode 61, and they often get a bit reckless and launch the toilets a bit too far, to which the others larges joining in get annoyed.
•Hear me out on this one:
-Old Windows (3.1 I think) introduced the Iconic Game: Solitaire
-Windows 3.1 would've been mostly ran on CRT monitors
-TVmen have CRT Monitors
-TV's play Microsoft Solitaire (I think solitaire may be singleplayer, idk cards stuff, but they'd play some sort of card game)
More specifically, they'd connect to their fellow TV's and display the cards as ASCII on their screens. Imagine two TV's just staring at eachother, with cards silently moving across their screen, until one wins and the other storms off angrily.
Also, some would definitely play knife games, like you theorised :3
[joins in squeeing over Titan TV] YES! He is magnificent and he knows he is! I love how the TVs are this combo of supercilious and self-assured and yet also massive memelords. They're so endearing and cool!
Haha, cameras playing ball games with Polycephaly would be so imbalanced - Poly can kick it way further than they can! (Even the large cams)
Yeah, solitaire is single-player (hence the name; you play it in solitary manner). BUT computer chess is older than Windows, and pieces can be represented with text abbreviations, thus the game could be played in ASCII.
Polycephaly is reasonably good at chess but no-one will play with them because they'll say 'CHEATING BITCH' if they lose, like MacReady in The Thing.
Thanks for the brain worms! I really want to see some cams playing footy now and hilariously messing it up/colliding/falling over, etc., haha!
