Answering Some Asks

I recently sent some questions over to @thirtytwoelvismovies - who requested that I answer them myself in turn. So here we are:

What's a recent piece of media you've connected with?

Probably the most recent media that I connected with is the "Anthology of the Killer" series of games by thecatamites. I played through most of them in two days last year and they quickly became an all-time fave. Inspired by everything from Richard Sala's comics, to 80s new wave design, to surrealist art, to zine culture, to the endless repetition of long-running detective and horror fiction. They're also short and have a lot of fun writing.

2. What's something you'd LIKE to collect, but don't currently have?

I don't have a ton of room or disposable income at the moment, so there's lots of things I'd like to collect if circumstances were different. The first thing that comes to mind for some reason would be the 1981 pinball table Black Hole, which has a hidden second playfield that's upside down. Expensive and requires a lot of upkeep, but it'd be so cool.

3. What's the last album that you listened to?

TEETH OF GLASS - La sonagliera della morte (2024). Gloomy minimal synth/ambient inspired by giallo cinema and Italian gothic horror. Courtesy of the Heimat Der Katastrophe label, who publish a lot of dungeon synth, minimal synth, etc.

4. How are you doing?

So-so, truth be told. My depression has been getting to me lately and I've had a lot of anxiety about the future. I've been feeling very stagnant for a while now and I think I need some change.

I know we're all having a good time making fun of 'ole Howie P, and with good reason, but this kinda thing extends beyond his racism-addled brain. Alfred Hitchcock was known as one of the masters of horror film and he admitted to being scared by everything from policemen to eggs. He was not difficult to frighten either.

The way some people think of horror authors or directors, you'd imagine they'd have an unflinching iron will, almost impossible to frighten because nothing you can throw at them matches the horrors within their minds. Or alternatively they are Gomez Addams, taking a childlike delight in the macabre.

In reality, most of them are just as easily frightened as anyone else, and their writing often reflects their specific anxieties. Sure, there's some that probably DO delight in "horrific" imagery or stories, but I think with most creators, the whole "this would even frighten so-and-so" isn't that much of a selling point.

1. Very true, but I’ve always kept up with modern tech — last year I bought a 4K disc player and it’s been a game changer in terms watching movies at home. I also have a really nice analog recording setup at home, but much prefer working with my digital workstation some of the new workflow innovations are just jaw-dropping

2. That’s a dangerous question because I could find myself checking eBay later tonight and starting a whole new thing. But I’d say I’d mostly like to have certain things back that I always regretted selling. My first Stratocaster is one of those things.
