I know I said I would shut up about hazbin, this blog isn’t really created for hazbin/helluva boss content and was created so I could write essays on whatever interested me - and I suppose hazbin is that current interest?
But for me Hazbin Hotel is the plummeting point of media literacy regarding the Bible. I know , I know “ it’s a comedy set in hell! Of course it’s not going to be THE SAME! It’s for fun! It’s Vivs own spin on hell!!”
It’s a poorly researched hell, where there is no love in the world and for some reason the devil himself and the seven sins ( bar Mammon so far ) don’t even act like sins. And if that’s the case, why are actual bad people down there when the demons REPRESENTING THE SIN aren’t even half as bad?
Dante’s inferno is a self insert AO3 fan fiction before AO3 ever existed, but Dante knew how to write and convey emotion in his poetry - he knew how to write hell and he was dedicated to representing not only hell but it’s counter part realms.
Hazbin hotel feels like a self insert AO3 fanfic show but with only the worst parts and no reward. The world building is shit. The characters aren’t developed enough and their arcs are rushed. I know they only had eight episodes, but they’re trying to do too much. Fiona and Cake had a similar amount I believe ( 8-12? I can’t remember I’m sorry) and it still stands as an amazing show exploring like six different characters in the time it needed.
Viv’s characters don’t feel personal. They don’t feel like they had the same passion or love for the source material. But worst of all, for a comedy? I don’t feel rewarded watching an episode of Charlie’s daddy issues being resolved and the king of hell signing off on her idea in roughly 22 minutes. And I don’t find it funny seeing one of my favorite characters being used in a rape joke right after we do an episode on how sexual exploitation is bad.
This is a very messily structured essay I’m aware. I’m not a huge Bible lover, I’m not a Christian, and I don’t think we should diminished the harm Christianity has done.
However, it is clear Viv has only focused on just that, the harm the Bible has brought and none of its messaging of love, none of the best literature it’s brought and none of the movements it’s genuinely impacted in a positive way. ( Lillith being used as a feminist symbol for Jewish women?)
TLDR;
I’m very tired of witnessing comedy shows set in hell with little to no care for how it’s said to be. I’m tired of media repeating itself and thinking it’s new and fresh because there’s gay people! It’s not. Viv’s hell isn’t a fun idea. Hazbin hotel isn’t fun unless you enjoy instant gratification and no work towards the reward.

for a show and its spin off known for being extremely offensive and edgy, its weird how hypersensitive helluva boss/hazbin hotel fans are.

I think one of the main reasons why I don't go out of my way to follow a lot of people on socials even if I think their art is amazing is because at least half the time, they're shitting on the canon source material and act very big-headed. It happens too often.

people who participate in hate-fandoms need to get an actual hobby I'm so serious 😭 not to be a hater but for the love of God log off. genuinely humiliating to be spending that much time caring about something that makes you so miserable that is ultimately so meaningless

tom would be the one at a roy family christmas party to stay in the kitchen for hours making a gingerbread house with actual intricate decorating and everything, and custom shaped gingerbread men to represent everyone in the family including accurate height differences and decently accurate clothes and faces. greg's is so tall that it snaps on accident and tom starts tearing up. he morosely hands greg the two pieces and greg assumes it's some kind of threat

To any Moominvalley 2019 watchers i need help-
Can someone please explain to me what was the ending of "The Lonely Mountains" episode? (yes, the gay one)
Snufkin and Moomintroll exchange goodbyes after being rescued by Moominpappa and Moominmamma. Snufkin is back to his solitude. The episode seems like it'll end. Then it cuts to night and they're both in the cave again? And it ends there??
I just got really confused. Did Moomintroll go back and stay with Snufkin for the winter? Was Snufkin imagining Moomintroll was with him? Was that a moment they had shared in the cave previously that hadn't been shown yet? I didn't understand.
Especially since the next episode already happens in what seems to be mid-spring. Like, for a show thats usually so coherent with its seasons' progression, there seemed to be a huge time gap there. And zero context. Exactly when I needed it most.
I thought maybe if I watched until the end of the season Id be given some context, but i just finished it and I'm still as clueless as ever.
Sooooo, does anyone know? Am i being dumb? Please i need help :')

[taps microphone and gets in way too close] I actually like S17+ Project Runway more than S1-10.
(S11-15 is... decent. But imo saying that the Siriano seasons are worse than 1-10 is just the nostalgia talking lmao.)
please don't argue with me I'm just here to complain about Popular Opinions I Disagree With

Ok ok… here me out for a second…
Thenamesh Addams Family AU…
The Lee Family: business associates of Father's who were coming to meet with them over real estate (or some such). Mister Lee dealt in property, and also possessed quite a lot of the railways, according to Father. Missus Lee was as much of a matriarch as Mother, although they were going to talk about their poison gardens, or some other such.
Thena stared at the family standing in the foyer. They were like the picture perfect opposite of herself and her own family. They were dressed entirely in black, even the son in a smart black suit. They had mild expressions but warmer seeming eyes, all a gentle brown.
Mother and Father had perfectly sculpted smiles, but eyes as cold as the tundra. They were dressed in all white, just like Thena was, with her white-blonde hair braided over her shoulder.
"Mister and Missus Lee," Father greeted them with a falsely warm tone. Before they had arrived, he had said that they were horrid people to do business with, despite his very warm tone.
"Such a pleasure," Mother purred as she exchanged air-cheek-kisses with Missus Lee. She had said that she would rather let Theseus - the young iguana currently hiding in Thena's room - sit on her lap than align herself with 'Mister Lee's wife'.
Such walking contradictions her parents were.
"This is our son," Mister Lee smiled more genuinely, putting his hands on his son's (broad) shoulders. "Gilgamesh."
"Pleasure to meet you." He had a soft voice.
Thena stared at the young man. He was big for their age, with a young moustache coming in on his upper lip. Thena's lips twitched; it suited him, in a funny sort of way.
"Gilgamesh," Mister Lee clapped his hands on his son's back as the parents began moving into the drawing room, "greet the young lady properly."
Not that they stuck around to see that it happened.
Thena looked at the young man again, extending her hand, her palm facing the floor. Her face was still impassive, and she hadn't said a word, just like Father always taught her.
Gilgamesh looked at her with some intrigue in his eyes, bending further than he needed to as he accepted her hand in his. He bowed his head completely, nothing short of reverent as he said, "my pleasure."
Thena tilted her head as he kissed the back of her hand. It was gentle, and he even held it softly with his other hand as his lips touched her knuckle. She smiled; she could feel his moustache tickle her skin, "enchante."
"Bless you," he extended a handkerchief.
Thena laughed before quickly raising her hand between her mouth and his eyes. She was forgetting her etiquette with their guest; Mother would be furious.
"What, are you not allowed to laugh?"
Thena looked at him again, and, without his parents to loom over him, Gilgamesh seemed more relaxed. His shoulders were still wider than any she had seen, but they were slouched, his hands in his trouser pockets. She had never seen anyone look so comfortable in their own skin before.
"It's okay," he shrugged as he smiled, attempting to encourage her into doing the same, "I won't tell."
She almost - almost! - let another laugh escape her before fixing her lips into a perfect smile. It was rigid and hard to maintain, but it was the only one she knew how to do. "I thank you for your consideration."
"So, uh," Gilgamesh leaned back just for a second before walking closer to her, away from the doorway where their parents' business mutterings were happening. "We're supposed to...talk, I guess?"
"Indeed."
"Okay," he looked at her, hands still in his pockets. His eyes ran over her, and Thena briefly forgot what she had put on that day (Mother always picked her clothes for her anyway). "What do you wanna talk about?"
Thena blinked. She had read about trains and business economics and stock options all night in preparation to meet the magnate's son. And he was asking her? "Me?"
"Yeah, you," he smiled, even more naturally than before. He had a nice smile. "What do you like to do?"
What did she like to do? What was she allowed to do? Her days were filled with lessons, and then after that, she was left to her own devices. "Sometimes Mother lets me assist her in the poison garden."
"Oh yeah, Ma has the same kind of thing at home," Gilgamesh made a face that betrayed his lack of interest in the topic. "She just gets mad when I'm outside because she always thinks I'll step on it, though."
Thena felt her lips twitch, aching to leave the practised posture of the smile she had on. "Mother is similarly protective of ours. She gets furious when Theseus crawls around in the soil."
"Who's Theseus?"
Again, Thena felt caught off guard by the question, even though they were the only ones speaking. She wasn't used to being asked so many questions that weren't on a preordained subject. "Theseus is my iguana."
"You have a pet?" Gilgamesh beamed, so utterly delighted by even the idea of having an animal companion. He stepped closer to her, "can I see him?"
"I-I suppose," she uttered before she had a chance to think better of it. Was this what she was supposed to be doing? She was told to be hospitable to the Lee Family et al, so surely that included indulging Gilgamesh too...right? "Come with me."
"Allow me," he smiled, holding out his hand for her.
Thena paused just for a moment before slipping her hand into his, the way she had seen Mother do when Father held her hand as they walked the halls of their cold and sprawling estate. The way a gentleman did with a lady.
Gilgamesh held her hand so gently she felt as if she would collapse.
Thena looked down at the steps as she lead him upstairs, opting to walk to the left first. "Mother and Father have been anticipating your visit for quite some time."
"My folks too," he concurred, in much more casual phrasing. He looked around as they walked, his other hand still in his pocket. "They're all excited for it, and yet they keep saying what a drag it is."
Thena smiled as much as she was able without practising, "my parents are the same. I haven't the faintest idea why they insist on referring to things they claim are good to be so awful."
"They're funny like that, huh?" Gilgamesh looked away from the family portraits lining the upper walls to her again. "Should I have said it was quite awful to make your acquaintance?"
Thena let another tiny little laugh escape. She peeked at Gilgamesh, just to make sure he didn't mind. But he was smiling right at her. "Abysmal to meet you as well."
"See?" he grinned so freely, so uninhibited by the gilded cage around them. "Maybe that should be our code for things. If they're going to pretend shit it so great, then we can say just the opposite."
They reached the top of the staircase, where it split from its other half. Still, he didn't let go of her hand, waiting for to lead him wherever they pleased.
"Then I am having," she paused, her lips pressing together in threat of another smile, "an awful time."
His hand squeezed around hers faintly. But it was nice. "Me too."

while im at it: the good place was doing such a good job pointing out the flaws of a materialism-based afterlife and came SO close to the Catholic conclusion of purgatory, then just like. gave up and decided on buddhist existentialism instead at the last minute.

hazbin hotel feels like whenever the most annoying athiest you know tries to #epicallypwn a Christian by making the most base level critique that rests on a fundamental misunderstanding of what Christians ideology actually entails. and then if they made a really mediocre adult cartoon about what an epic pwn it was.

My PokeMiku rankings (not open to criticism /j).
Tumblr media
If anyone wants to make their own tierlist, I used this one. And heres all the Project Voltage art.
I was tempted to rank the "Announcement Miku" (the art with Farfetch'd in Project Voltage) and the previously existing Snow Miku collab I discovered via Bulbapedia's Project Voltage page, but realized theyd be unfair comparisons, lol.

the worst types of tumblr archetypes to encounter on here:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
if you're not like this? great! you don't need to tell me, and this clearly doesn't apply to you :)! just because you might share similarities, doesn't mean you're the same if you don't act this way. Be thankful you are not as extreme as these archetypes.
#fave#my art#*shields myself preemptively*#if you have a genuine critique of this that doesnt involve adhom or throwing slurs at me or being a dick generally i am open to listening#but i have a feeling every person mentioned in this wont be able to have a normal discussion about whatever they think makes this bad#ignoring terfs tankies and transmeds though lmao#and ignoring the puritanical types too#and the anime avatar neo nazis also. i mean. what value do they bring to any discussion anyways.#listen. just critiquing types of people here. not everyone is like this obvs.#but enough ppl are 🤷#some ppl restraining themselves from liking this post and showing agreement#some ppl restraining themselves for yelling at me for being right about them#now i want to make a sitcom about them all#puritanical left and ms rulebook are siblings#tankie catgirl and ms. trans terf are probably dating. also ms.apathy might be dating them too. shes prolly non committal#abt it tho#mr.dr.transmed is also siblings with ms rulebook#anime avatar hangs out in the background at functions probably thinking of killing everyone#mr. tme is dating ms. trans terf#the easily manipulated person is just there. probably sharing the joint with ms. apathy#puritanical left guy is the youngest#anime avatar and tankie catgirl used to be friends#ms rulebook is always yelling at ms apathy#oh uh right... the terf....#well obvs shes secretly friends with anime avatar. and ms rulebook for some reason ignores ppl when they ask her to not#invite her to hangout??? oddly enough mr.dr.transmed seems to get along with ms terf...... maybe they're cousins?#easily manipulated person is often caught endlessly listening to the puritanical left kid. they're honestly just high as fuck prolly#easily manipulated person also thinks ms rulebook is really smart and knows better than them#gender can be changed where it applies! definitely not something constrained to one gender or the other. except maybe terfs#dont see too many dude terfs

i love watching youtube analyses of movies and shows and i love when the person explaining something is totally wrong about the thing theyre talking about
#myposts#right now this is about someone talking about midnight mass with the pre-existing assumption that its basically only a show about critiquin#christianity and not about a really interesting and sincere discussion of faith and personal accountability within faith#which is WAY more interesting than that person claiming that the scene of the people walking to easter mass with candles is supposed to be#reminiscent of the charlottesville unite the right rally which makes literally no sense as a comparison whatsoever#and like. saying stuff like that monsignor pruitt is completely self-serving and only bad-intentioned and manipulative#and missing so many sides to his character and his actual internal struggle alltogether because the person just assumes he has to be a liar#like pruitt is SUCH a good character BECAUSE he deep down means well#like he GENUINELY thinks that he is doing the will of god and he struggles to contextualize what he percieves as gods will#with what he is suddenly forced to do (eating humans) and like. he doesnt realize that he should be questioning if hes really ACTING for go#and thats the main THING you know. people who are held in a frame of belief might try to rationalize EVERYTHING through that frame#even if it starts to oppose their actual beliefs. like. its a prettttyyy significant thing for pruitt that he starts questioning why#god suddenly 'allows' him to kill people and instead of reflecting on it he holds a SERMON saying that GOD CHANGED HIS MIND ABOUT MURDER#like I LOVE pruitt because he's that realistic and like all this person can see is a very shallow critique of christianity#which this show isnt honestly ALL that interested in (at least not from the side this person is talking about it lmao)#and jessie gender (who doesnt know about it but whom i have beef with) commented 'excellent analysis' under the video#dare i say. it was not. it was really mid anaysis and like half the plot just FLEW over this person's head apparently#like. theyre not wrong but they are kinda analyzing a side-plot (the social ostracization of people non-christian from the community over#the run of the show) like it's the main plot and only plot going on lmao#but this post is also about every man who ever opened his mouth to speak about shiv roy
