Comes out April 16
Sophie and Jo, two aromantic and asexual students at Wellesley College, engage in an online feud while unknowingly becoming friends in real life, in this dual POV Young Adult contemporary debut from Ann Zhao. Sophie Chi is in her first year at Wellesley College (despite her parents' wishes that she attend a "real" university, rather than a liberal arts school) and has long accepted her aromantic and asexual identities. Despite knowing she'll never fall in love, she enjoys running an Instagram account that offers relationship advice to students at Wellesley. No one except her roommate knows that she's behind the incredibly popular "Dear Wendy" account. When Joanna "Jo" Ephron —also a first-year student at Wellesley— created their "Sincerely Wanda" account, it wasn't at all meant to be serious or take off like it does—not like Dear Wendy's. But now they might have a rivalry of sorts with Dear Wendy? Oops. As if Jo's not busy enough having existential crises over gender, the fact that she'll never truly be loved or be enough, or her few friends finding The One and forgetting her! While tensions are rising online, Sophie and Jo are getting closer in real life, bonding over their shared aroace identities. As their friendship develops and they work together to start a campus organization for other a-spec students, can their growing bond survive if they learn just who's behind the Wendy and Wanda accounts? With its exploration of a-spec identities, college life, and more, this platonic comedy, perfect for fans of Netflix's The Half of It and Alice Oseman's Loveless, is ultimately a love story about two people who are not—and will not—be in love!

Hi! I would like to ask for a recommendation for an arranged marriage/platonic marriage of convenience book involving an Aroace character. I like the trope set up but never the resolution and haven’t been able to find anything. Thank you!
Mods don't have any recommendations but posting this to see if someone else does!

The Stones Stay Silent launches on April 14th!
Here is the official blurb:
When a deadly plague sweeps the land, the priests of the Parents accuse those deemed to have incurred the gods' wrath. Leiander, unmarried and with interests unbecoming to the woman people consider him to be, flees for his life. With the Night Demon Kevv'ach by his side and his deepest wish undiminished, he journeys to the Great Lith, said to still channel the magic of the Parents. He will beseech the gods to remake his body in the image of the Father, so the world sees him as his true self: Leiander.
And here’s what you can expect:
- A character-driven medieval-ish fantasy story; - Transgender aroace main character seeking to live his life and maybe bake; - Cinnamon roll Night Demon bestie with partial amnesia (and a sweet tooth); - Steadfast friends turned found family (and occasionally, a pair of mules); - Absent gods who left behind mysterious blue monoliths; - Strict gender roles dictating what jobs people have, what colors they wear, and what tattoos they get + a couple of fanatics hell-bent on enforcing said rules; - Extensive travel through a plague ravaged realm; - A conspicuous lack of magic; or swords; or sorcery; or monsters; - Even more giant statues; - A bunch of recipes to try for yourself, from Romanian, Austrian and... whatever cuisine baked goat cheese in walnut crust comes from; - Named chapters! Pronunciation guide! Maps for each part! Extensive content warnings! Handy reference chart for timekeeping! Cameo appearance by my cat! - Eventually, I promise, a happy end.
You can already preorder the ebook on Amazon and have it synch to your device on Friday, when the paperback will also be available there. If you’d rather support your local indie bookshop, go for it! You can ask them to order a book for you once published, by providing them the following details:
Title: The Stones Stay Silent Author: Danny Ride ISBN:  9783982494906
----
If it’s not up your alley, you don’t want or can’t afford to buy the book, you can still support - it would mean so much!
- share this post - let your friends know - ask your local library to order the book for you! (you and anyone else can read it for free then!) - suggest it as reading for book clubs - add the book to your list on goodreads - mark it as to read on the story graph - upvote it on reedsy discovery - there is a detailed review there from an independent reviewer, and you can also read the first chapter for free!

Wow…. Just, wow. Holy crap did I love this book. I loved Dev and Charlie. I loved the blatant aspec rep, the queer rep, and the mental health rep. All of it was so good! Not to mention all the commentary on reality dating shows. I honestly don’t know what else to say about The Charm Offensive other than I really, really loved it. I want to dive back into it and start a reread. If it’s not already clear, this book is getting a solid five stars. And I’m just gonna go scream over this one in a corner.
Reading Challenge Prompt Fills:
Romance Readathon: lgbtq+ rep, pastel colors on the cover (sneaking one last one in 😊)
PopSugar: a book set in Hollywood
Shop Your Shelves: a new to you author
Read Queerly 2023: aspec main character

Some a-spec characters I'd love to see in books:
The asexual sex worker: especially if they are badass and enjoy their work, just don't feel attraction for their clients (I know it probably already exists, but I'd like to see it normalized in the kind of books I enjoy).
The clueless alloaro: during all the story the love interest is frustrated because they don't seem interested, until confessing their intention and the alloaro is like: "why you didn't told me before?"
The romance-repulsed belluromantic: a character who talks about romance all the time and seems obsessed until someone manifests interest towards them, and they are like: "lol, fuck no!"
The oriented aroace: c'mon, it's my label, gimme at least one character, please! 🥺

Every once in a while I get sad that I've never seen the Sands of Arawiya Duology by Hafsah Faizal on any lists of fantasy novels featuring aro/ace characters.
Bc Kifah!! She's a part of the main cast! She's important! Her aro/ace identity is mentioned & confirmed!! (Mind you, it's in the second book, but it's really more a confirmation of what you already know about her from the first.)
She's absolutely lovely!! & I'm a bit sad not more people know about her.

Finally got time to read 'Loveless' by Alice Oseman and oh my god. Oh my god. OH MY GOD. It was soooo good. I've never felt so related to a book character until now and that too the main character. It feels awesome. It was hilarious and so emotional too. Towards the end I completely lost it and cried with the joy of having such a book in the world that is so amazing.
P.s. I don't know whether I make any sense above but I am just so excited about it. I couldn't stop myself from making a post.

i'm sorry but this shit annoys me to no end. like this is about heartstopper and you all need to stop acting like that show invented everything.
Tumblr media
fucking anyways
1. Koisenu Futari
Tumblr media
Show that’s specifically made to be about aromanticism and asexuality as well as how aroace people are perceived by society. They are main characters. That’s the main plot.
2. Heartbreak High
Tumblr media
Want a teen show with ace rep? No problem. One of the main characters is ace! Would you look at that! The representation already exists! It's got a ton of other rep too and it's on Netflix but somehow we never got that ace rep yet right? You don't even need subtitles for this one.
3. SkamFr (s12)
Tumblr media
Is it a bit too much at times? Ye sure but you know what it also is? Another teen show where the main character is asexual that deals with asexuality as the main theme. And no you don't need to watch all those seasons before to get it.
4. Bojack Horseman
Tumblr media
I didn't even watch this one but I'm aware.
5. Cherry Magic
Tumblr media
Oh would you look at that a show with main mlm couple where one of the side characters is aroace? I mean surely it hasn't been done before.
6. Run On
Tumblr media
You want some casual side character ace rep? Well here you go even kdramas have done it but I guess there just aren't any shows...
Honorary mention to Sex Ed for that one scene.

Note
Deeplight by Frances Hardinge contains no sexual content and barely any romantic content!
In terms of romantic content, a relatively major side character mentions that he did something because he was in love with a girl, but that's the most detail there is if I remember correctly.
Genre: fantasy and horror. Young adult.
Thank you!

The proof copy of The Stones Stay Silent arrived and it is *gorgeous*. Toby has approved it.
The ebook is available for pre-order on Amazon. The launch date is April 14th - that's when the paperback will be out, too. If you'd rather support your non-Amazon local indie bookshop, you will be able to order it from them a bit later, too (details when I have them, navigating this self-publishing crap is a tiny bit overwhelming, so one step at a time, but my understanding is that IngramSpark takes a bit longer).
Also, you can show the book some love by upvoting it on Reedsy Discovery, or adding it on your reading list on Goodreads and The Story Graph.
Anything helps, and nothing helps an indie author more than a review, even if you just write "I read this book".
Blurb:
When a deadly plague sweeps the land, the priests of the Parents accuse those deemed to have incurred the gods' wrath. Leiander, unmarried and with interests unbecoming to the woman people consider him to be, flees for his life.
With the Night Demon Kevv'ach by his side and his deepest wish undiminished, he journeys to the Great Lith, said to still channel the magic of the Parents. He will beseech the gods to remake his body in the image of the Father, so the world sees him as his true self:
Leiander.
