Not a PJO Show Review*
Now I was so excited for a truthful adaptation of the books and I am left just disappointed with every new episode that comes out. First of all, why was this fourth episode not even 30 minutes long? ?
Anyway, one of my main issues so far includes pacing of the story. It’s very much stuck in a “rushed but at the same time slow” moving kind of pace, which is insanely weird. In one episode they spend all their time in one place but the writing tries to cram so much detail into that episode that everything rushes by with dialogue instead of action. It’s so weird I can’t even describe it well, but the point is that there is entirely too much of the characters walking you across the street with dialogue only readers could actually follow/understand.
(For example; Zeus is pissed that the bolt is missing and wants it back by the summer solstice or else he’ll start a war. The solstice is in a few days. This is mentioned once/twice and nobody has shown even an ounce of urgency to find the bolt. It’s just expected of you to remember that fact while the show does nothing to remind you of it- the sun is always out and it’s not stormy to show just how mad Zeus is, the characters calmly walk and chat and never once mention the bolt again, etc.)
The exposition dumping does not help at all; a sentence or two to describe something important only for the talking to drag on with the expectation that you know what they’re talking about. Grover absolutely running through what CHB is all about, the entire point of the kids’ quest, Annabeth being the daughter of wisdom (so far there has not been one instance where this is proven, just mentioned offhandedly). There’s hardly any personality attached to any one character because all they do is rapidly explain things.
Now, exactly why are they going to the Underworld? To save Sally, yes; but what does that have to do with the bolt? At this point their mission is Sally, not the quest- the Hellhound chase scene was cut from the show, so now there is no indication at all that Hades might have had something to do with the missing bolt. Poseidon and Zeus are pointing fingers at each other (which was either not mention or I missed it because of how off handed this detail was), so why in the world would Hades play a part in this? Because these three hate each other? Again, only readers would be inclined to think like this because their hatred was never emphasized or expanded upon.
(Are they hoping to just ask and receive some kind of news about the bolt? They have no lead as to where the bolt may be, so going to Sally’s aid first and then figuring out details with the bolt is so questionable. Again, this is far from showing the urgency of the situation)
Also, Luke’s betrayal is going to be interesting. He’s the one who let the Hellhound in, which put the entirety of camp in danger for his own goals. Without this, he’s just some guy who doesn’t agree with the situation they’re currently in- he’s not dangerous or evil, so far he’s just there.
Friendships are just not there. They say Luke and Annabeth are like family but they’ve spoken once. They say Luke and Percy are tentative friends but all they did was have a tour around camp. They say Percy and Grover are best friends but their conversations mainly revolve around dumping exposition.
There’s more I have to say but I’ll just say I have hope the show will make up for this iffy start. It’s not too much, but it’s there-ish.

Percy Jackson Analysis ep.1
(did that sound vaguely pretentious? I feel like a need a funny name for this)
SO SORRY it took me this long. To be truthful I put on My Happy Marriage to listen to while refining my notes, I'm not a huge romance lover so I didn't think I would get that invested but then I proceeded to binge the whole thing...
anyways go watch My Happy Marriage, it messed me up in the best ways
On to my children, the way I wrote these notes was chronological, including lines I thought were powerful and thoughts I had while watching, enjoy my sub-tier analysis
To start with I think the casting, as well as most of the acting in the show, is phenomenal. There are some acting scenes which aren't great, but the nice things about child actors is that they grow and improve
iconic opening line 10000000/10
blackjack cameo? *chefs kiss*
One thing that really stands out to me regarding young Percy in school is that the bullying is portrayed so well. Like, sure some kids get punched but more often it's whispers, snide comments, teachers not doing enough to stop it. Not to mention when you have mental health problems or neurodivergency on top of that it makes it even harder to fit in and gain help from authority figures. There's no way teachers weren't aware of how Percy was being treated (we even see this in the books with mortals that don't care about him getting picked on by other mortals, think sea of monsters)
GROVER!!! I know I already ranted about the casting but Aryan just does such a good job. I hope in later seasons we see him more than we did in the books.
I'm UNHEALTHILY OBSESSED at the idea that mythomagic cards are to help train halfbloods. It also gets me thinking about season 3 interactions between little Nico and Percy. But it's incredibly clever to have a game that would entice children to learn more about the monsters they're likely to face against. It's also a clever marketing move irl.
Once again great portrayal of bullying while still keeping the show appropriate for kids
UNREALISTIC their paper would never be printed with color ink /lh
I really enjoy how they displayed dyslexia, it seems very accurate to descriptions.
"how it makes you feeeeel"
The lines about not everyone who looks like a hero being a hero and not everyone who looks like a monster being a monster is some of the best foreshadowing I've ever seen. It perfectly foreshadows Luke, Medusa, and generally captures one of the major points of Uncle Ricks books.
the hold fast line being used through the series *chefs kiss*
One thing I stand by in both the books and series is that I was incredibly disappointed in how little Chiron directly stood up for Percy- even in regards to mortals. Like yeah ok he's gonna be a hero but he's also twelve, help the poor boy!
The bullying Dodds shows Percy is also very accurate to real life. I've had many teachers who straight up bully kids just like this and are never called out for it.
The utilization of the word 'Special' thought the series is a great example of how "PoLite EUpHEmiSm' and often weaponized and used as derogatory terms and serves as an example of why many push for using terms like disabled over differently abled.
"childhood trauma, feelings of inadequacy" DAMN GROVER just going for the jugular, pop off. love how the show incorporates realistic convos kids would have. This instance and other little side bars we see throughout the show add something that I often find missing in television throughout all generas. it's incredibly important to have realistic convos to help solidify characters as people.
"Never ever stand up to them" "that doesn't sound right" THIS LINE 10000000/10
"there you are" we're not fools Percy Jackson
I did feel like this should have been Perseus Jackson seeing as how it's pretty canonical that monsters and gods alike only refer to him using his full name, adding on the the names have power theme that permeates throughout the series.
trauma for days
"is he dead?"
Chiron low-key being the embodiment of gaslighting, girl boss, gatekeep
UNCLE RICK CAMEO!!!
realist portrayal of adults already having their mind made up and children being unable to do anything except tell their story over and over
(also does Kronos speak to Percy in his dreams as the school principal? I genuinely can't remember, if so Kronos sure knows how to embody nightmares)
I honestly wish they would have expanded more on both how guilty grover would have felt rating Percy out (even if it means protecting him) and also how betrayed Percy would have felt. his fatal flaw is loyalty, grover was his very first and very best friend, he only really has his mother, this would have been a huge punch in the gut.
anyone else feel like grover and Percy should have been interviewed separately?
I'm sorry, I have to complain about the lighting in this show. WHY IS IT SO DARK? THIS ISNT SHOWN IN THEATERS! MY EYES ARENT THIS GOOD. IM SQUINTING TRYING TO FIND OUT WHAT IS ON THE TV!! WHYYYYY??!?!
"at least I know you think you didnt" -not helpful Chiron :/ shame on you
"you might have the most difficult journey" great foreshadowing
'SPeCiaL'
I know there was lots of discussion about how Gabe wasn't abusive 'enough' but often times abuse isn't easy to see or what TV leads you to believe. The show keeps it age appropriate while also showing how much of a leech and how controlling he is (answering Sally's phone, not wanting her to leave to the beach). Honestly I might make a separate post on this but at the moment I'm tired of seeing ignorant people claim that Gabe wasn't aggressive enough or that Sally wasn't meek enough to be abused.
I was disappointed that Eddie became a 'good' character instead of showing how abusive adults often have buddies backing them up
It's realistic Percy would talk to Gabe even though he's a dick, kids want to make connections
Sally in the rain- reference to Poseidon 10/10
Sally is just happy to see him :')
"all that matters is that your here, ok?" aww
BLUE FOOD!!!
"Is there something else you wanna talk about" mom knows
"I'm scared" damn does that resonate
once more just because Sally isn't portrayed as meek doesn't mean that that whole interaction wasn't unhealthy and abusive
di angelo reference! even if it's not our di angelo the name choice was incredibly purposeful
"it's getting angrier" personification of the storm lends well to Zeus and Poseidon
love PJO dream sequences
"who are you" does Kronos not know who Percy is? Gonna be real this confuses me, am I missing something obvious?
Sally was crying??!?!
the race from the car to the cabin is another example of the writers (and actors) creating realistic people you can connect to. the nostalgia that hit me in this scene was POTENT
It's so so so important to have a place to escape to as an abuse victim, and as a teen in general. Scratch that, just people in general need places to escape to which makes the cabin even more significant
Percy's self deprecating marshmallow talk :(
"I'm used to the world feeling weird to me" neurodivergency and mental health issues can create very isolating atmospheres making community important -camp is that community
Uncle Rick does a great job creating metaphores regarding discrimination and ableism
It's so hard to tell someone you trust and love that you think something is wrong, especially as a child. Walker did a fantastic job capturing all the mixed up emotions that occur.
"something that felt real to you but no one else could see" once again significant to neurodivergency and mental health
I don't personally like the choice to have Sally tell Percy that his father is a god. The acting in the scene also just rubs me really wrong - it feels fake. I think I enjoyed the book version better with him never receiving a clear answer until camp, and even then you can debate on how "clear" it was.
I would be freaking out so much more that Walker if my mom approached the subject like this. It would be incredibly frightening to think your mom was going insane alongside you.
"there is something wrong with my brain" once again, uncle Rick reaches out of the screen/pages to hit me where it hurts
"I don't want to see him" the betrayal he feels :(
grover pants scene (I feel no need to elaborate on this note, it was by far the funniest scene of the episode 1000000000+
"so the important thing is not to panic"
"who are you" nooo he's ur friend don't do this to me :(((
I love grover
very nice natural lead into explaining the mist
The show is unfortunately hit with the complex issue of trying to provide context to an audience who already knows and is eager to see the action. I know there were many criticisms about it but I will say my mother, who didn't read the books, felt she had a firm grasp on the lore of the show, so that counts for something?
"what else haven't we talked about, what else haven't you told me" broken trust :(((
"I'm actually 24" NOW IS NOT THE TIME GROVER
"won't all of us be safe" ha... about that
"swear it, SWEAR IT GROVER" damn, okay sally
again, WHY IS THE LIGHTING SO DARK?!?! I know it helps hide cgi but we know there's gonna be CGI in a show abt monsters and myths
"you are not broken, you are singular" amazing foreshadowing
Sally is bamf
trauma
the choice to make things silent after Sally 'dies' *chefs kiss once again
I just really love the shot of Percy surfing down the monster dust
"he must be the one" :)))
hope y'all enjoyed :)

PJO Show Casting
Okay so before I start THIS IS NOT A COMPLAINT ABOUT ANNABETH. Any of you racists who wanna complain about her being black, leave. That ain’t what this post is about.
Spoiler warning for Episode 8 of PJO
The actor for Zeus is black. And that’s a horrible decision made by the casting director. Looking at the power dynamic and hierarchy, Zeus is the god with the most power, whom everyone must bow down to. In the show’s own words, he’s “the one everyone fears and MUST obey” or something along those lines. Zeus is basically the epitome of white patriarchy. So in casting a black man to play his role, the PJO show loses that subtext of oppressed children fighting against a patriarchal system that abuses them. And yeah, maybe in the books Zeus isn’t ever really held accountable, but it was heading that way in Trials of Apollo. If you wanna argue that the show shouldn’t bring politics or whatever into a kids’ show, I’d argue they’d already did that by making the change with Medusa, and portraying her in a sympathetic light. We got to see Medusa as a victim of the gods, and the whole narrative of the entire show is that the gods are not the omnipotent, infallible beings they claim to be. It makes more sense for Zeus to be white because white men hold the most power in society. Making Zeus black in the show just falls straight into the Angry Black Man stereotype, and it also looks worse considering Hades and Poseidon are both clearly white. The show has made Zeus a power hungry, greedy, egotistical aggressor (which his character is, I’m definitely not arguing against that), but casting a black actor to play his role cheapens the allegory and subtly worsens people’s perceptions of black men. Yeah, you could argue it’s not that deep. However, it just doesn’t sit right with me that the show is (rightfully) making Zeus somewhat of an antagonist while also making him black.
It’s cool that Hades is kinda gay-coded and very clearly not evil, as the books intended. Hades is fair and it’s a correct portrayal, but making him the innocent (sorta gay) white man against Mean Dickhead Zeus is not a good choice.
Furthermore, I’m conflicted on their choice of actor for Percy. Don’t get me wrong, Walker Scobell is incredibly talented and he was able to pull off a lot of good emotional scenes. I’m just… torn about the decision to make him blond instead of dark-haired because we lose the ability to imagine Percy as a marginalized kid fighting against oppression and standing up for what he believes is right. In the books, it’s obvious that Percy and his mother are poor, don’t live in a great area, and don’t trust authorities like the police to help them. These are all experiences shared by people of color, and a lot of fans imagined Percy with darker skin, thinking he could be black, other POC, or mixed race, which makes Percy a great symbolic underdog that POC fans can project themselves onto. In the show, Percy is very, very obviously white. With dark hair, people could have at least pretended Percy was mixed race and white passing, strengthening the narrative about not fitting in and being of two worlds. He’s blond, and pale skinned, so that’s no longer possible. PJO loses that nuanced angle of a boy from a minority community rising up to become a hero by making Percy just white.
Annabeth’s casting, I have no problem with. It’s important for little black girls to see themselves in her role, because she’s the daughter of the wisdom goddess, which is not a trait stereotypically associated with black girls. Annabeth being black shows that yes, black girls ARE smart, and brave, and can be heroines too. Would’ve been cool to make her blond, since blond black girls are often seen as dumb and that would be a great subversion, but I’m not too fussed with it.
Anyways these are just some thoughts I have on representation in PJO. I have plenty of other thoughts about other subjects on the show, so feel free to drop by my inbox or just chat with me about PJO. :)

PJO SHOW SPOILERS FOR NEW BOOK READERS!!!
guys i’m kinda pissed that the writers continuously decide to leave out (arguably)major details in pjo like the new episode (6) was good but 1) they shouldn’t have known the lotus casino was supposed to try and keep them there right away and built suspense like in the books 2) they completely left out the “because you’re my friend seaweed brain” which was a major point in there friendship. Honestly i’m not too upset because the tunnel of love was probably better for that, but i still would’ve loved to see it… and 3) they didn’t mention percy being able to talk to horses (the zebra!!! the literal title of the episode but there were no zebras in sight!) Keep in mind this is only just for the newest episode i also don’t like how Gabe wasn’t really abusive; this plot line was important to show he deserve to be unalived and develop sally’s character. this is not to say he needed to be MORE abusive; just that we only really see him being annoying/mistreating percy and sally like some man child. i think they could’ve hinted it better tho.
The show is good and I’m very much enjoying it but i feel i can’t ignore this much longer😭😭 The writers need to do better and we should have longer episodes. They should probably stop filming it on disney plus and go to hbo max or something, because 8 30-minute long episodes are clearly not enough to develop plot points…. it feels very rushed and if they wanted to do 20 minute episodes they should’ve done way more than 8. ALSO most of the fandom has forgotten we’re supposed to be boycotting disney 🤨🤨🤨FREE PALESTINE!!!! Unsubscribe to disney plus and 🏴‍☠️ 🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️(p!rate)
Im so sorry this is a long rant but another point i have is rick criticizing the movies because of the lady gaga scene. I am actually glad he didn’t put that into the show(although i loved it) but now it’s like what’s the point of not doing that because the episode had no… flavor to it??? I hate criticizing it but i just needed to share my opinions😭😭😭
Anyways the trio is carrying the show and i love walker, aryan, and leah sm 🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽

Yoyoyo i just reread wcwsthwas for the sixth time, in 7.5 hours, and i wanted to ask about your writing process. I think the thing that makes your fics incredibly special and high-quality is the fact you have a very high skill level for natural writing and dialogue.
Reading your fics genuinely feels like i’m reading a Riordan novel, but with even better pacing and emotional writing. The only thing riordan can do better is fight scenes. And he’s a massively talented and accredited author who makes millions from his books. You are a fanfic writer. It should not be close.
I wanted to ask if you use any references or have any inspiration for the way you write dialogue? Because it’s incredibly natural and well done.
THE SIXTH TIME SDFGHHJKL i snorted
anyway you hit the nail on the head! i've always been insecure about how i can't write pretty. d'ya know what i mean? i can't do lovely pretty descriptive metaphorical writing that just makes you think wow. but i do pay a lot of attention, like you said EXACTLY, to my dialogue and emotional writing.
for my emotional writing, i think that comes from being very introspective and attuned to my emotions myself. i'm an emotional person and it's taken me many years to really fully understand how i process things and how i function. i have had a lot of complex relationships with people who, while still close to me, are completely opposite to me in terms of how they process stuff themselves. percy and annabeth dealing with their emotions so differently in wcwsthwas is directly from me and my ex boyfriend: i'm very much like percy, and he's like annabeth in the sense that he needs to take a step back to really think about things before he acts on it. a lot of how i feel about friendships and love i've given to leo, and a lot of how i feel about my own culture was given to piper and frank. someone asked me this recently, but i've based piper on a bunch of my best friends, so that's probably why she comes off the way she does in my fic.
draw on your own emotions and experiences when you're writing a scene! emotions are complex and interesting. try to think about how you'd react, or try putting yourself into the shoes of that character. i also do a lot of observation about myself and other people around me. i see how people react to things, and how it shows up on their faces or hands or whatever. that helps me a lot while i'm writing.
for dialogue, i have no clue, honestly. i try to keep it simple as far as i can, i think. nobody's grandiose with their speech in real life (or maybe they are, and i hang out with a bunch of degenerates). i think i overuse the dashes in my dialogue (—) but that kind of stuff is important to me, because nobody's usually just rattling off a big speech in a single breath. there's always some hesitation, people talking over each other, stuff like that, punctuated by glances or gestures. try to play your dialogue in your head like it's a movie. keep it natural, and see how it would play out. for fics like ''cause you've been sinning in this city' i literally did not even attempt to have any dialogue make sense. when i'm talking to my friends, half the shit we say is just inside jokes that would not make a shred of sense to anyone else. stuff like that works too!
this reply turned into an ESSAY but the tl;dr is to keep it simple, write what you know, and trust your gut! but that being said, you don't have to be great at these things to be an awesome writer. i figured out my strengths as a writer the more i wrote, and you will, too. hey, you could be one of those writers who write all pretty that i so envy.
you always ask wonderful questions and ily for that!! also thank you sm for your support. i'd tell you to stop wasting ALMOST 8 HOURS rereading my stupid fic but i know you won't listen dfghjkldjn
i hope this helped a lil bit!

On Nico and Percy
Or why people need to chill about the way Percy treats Nico I get that he’s your blorbo but please CONTEXTUALIZE for a hot second geez
The way Nico fans are about the way Percy treated Nico in the Titan’s Curse (like he’s annoying) makes me like
Have you met many ten year olds?? They can be?? so annoying??
“Percy should respect him; Nico will save his life!”
Umm that’s a nine year old child. He obsesses over his little game. He’s a little brother. Let’s be honest. HES PROBABLY WORKED ANNOYING PEOPLE INTO AN ART FORM (given that he’s asking Percy so many questions he probably has)
Also he?? Hasn’t saved Percy yet?? And honestly throughout the main PJO series Percy does try his best to do right by Nico?? He’s angry on his behalf that Bianca leaves her brother, he tries to fulfill his promise to help Bianca, when they’re attacked by the skeletons he tries to protect Nico by telling him to leave, he shields Nico by not telling anyone his parentage (which is why I’m kind of ?? about him being ostracized from camp?? after the BofL? Didn’t Nico leave by himself to find answers about his family? You felt ostracized after the war?? Didn’t you design your cabin??), HE INVITES HIM FOR CAKE, he trusts him about the Styx thing (tho Nico tricks him because Hades tricks him), tries to keep him out of the fighting by telling him to convince his dad to help (actually a very important job that only he can do, not because he felt like he couldn’t trust Nico)
And also Percy is what? Fifteen? Fourteen? Fourteen year olds are also insufferable and dramatic and tired. A fifteen year old will be annoyed by anything, ESPECIALLY a little kid. A fifteen year old who has to tolerate incessant questions after seeing his best friend fall off a cliff? I would have yelled at Nico. Percy shows remarkable restrain IMO.
Honestly Percy can think whatever he wants?? He’s not even being particularly rude to Nico. The worst thing he’s done is not said anything when Jason and Leo said something about not saving Nico from The Jar, but IMO that’s Riordan’s disservice to Percy’s character because he’s supposed to be super loyal and he would protest if only out of respect for Bianca’s memory (tho honestly Percy goes through a bit of character assassination in HOO sometimes)
Edit: Also! The way Rick can’t keep track of his character’s ages if we got by HOO Percy and Nico have a 2-3 year age gap instead of instead of 5 year age gap. So in this scene Nico would be like 11? 12? Twelve year olds may be insensitive enough to say that the girl who fell off the cliff I stupid for having fallen off the cliff to the girl’s best friend (not the exact words but that’s what Nico sort of implies when he says a daughter of Athena should probably know better), but I’d also want to deck the kid. If you do say that there’s a two or three year age gap, you can draw a contrast between the way Percy and Nico react as 12 year olds to sensitivity. Nico just steamrolls right through, but Percy is always aware that she’s stumbled upon some vulnerability (ie in TLT when he asks Annabeth about her dad, or Luke about his scar). ANYWAY my point is the five year age gap is good because at least then you can say Nico’s a stupid nine year old. If it’s 2-3, you have to be like he was emotionally unintelligent/oblivious as a twelve year old. (Actually there’s something to be said about Percy being able to tell when he’s hit an emotional sore spot at that age, probably from having to avoid triggering Gabe’s ire)

anyway list of some joy inducing moments of the last few eps to get out of my frustrated vibes but
- huge fan of a character voiced by laura bailey. known for her Very Mature sense of humour. saying that there will be less dick jokes without scanlan (and then vex later calling saundor twig dick)
- scanlan and pike everything actually. i wasn’t particularly hype about them in the campaign (not Against them but just kinda vibin my way through their interactions) but i really like the dynamic of pike noticing scanlan’s sincerity and scanlan’s self awareness about failing to maintain it
- scanlan and pike adventuring folk song!!!! making a makingmy way song is so so powerful of them actually. very good vibes
- LAURA BAILEY VEX VOICE MAKING MY WAY SAD FEYWILD VERSION
- i’m . very much enjoying this version of grogs arc. i do get them destrengthing grog instead of killing him bc in the show format the amount of deaths might just get uh. too much. it’s fun knee but also gives a lot more vulnerability to grog then i think we got to see with him in the campaign.
- on that note. the detail that willhand is actually the one that called grog big boy and pike picked it up ? very sweet
- baby pike and grog are So. So important to me. little buddies :’)
- kaylie . Kaylie. KAYLIE.
- also kaylie telling scanlan “no one comes back to save you” thinking about two angry daughters talking in a bar. thinking about a bard playing a song for a shitty and dead father. thinking about a bard who chooses to be a father instead of a hero after his daughter saves him.
- garmelie :) artagan hints and appearance :) knowledge that someday there will be a mighty nein series and the poetry that was the vex does artagan a favour artagan meets a lonely little blue girl and empowers her
- boulder parchment shears
- vex and velora. it always makes me so so like proudsadangryhappy that vex cares so much for this little girl that is what she was punished for not being. i’m glad it’s present in the show.
- i did like the percy and vex scene where percy gives her the arrowhead stabby thing
- travis willingham voice acting extraordinaire (they all are but. holy shit man travis really does kill it as grog both with like silly reaction noises but also when he has emotional moments they’re So)
- god the score and sound in general is So good man i love it so much

tsats theories before i actually read it
this is solely for me to put all my thoughts in one place (kind of like a bingo board), feel free to interact with it though if you’d like
disclaimer: i've read the leaked preview and seen the video of rick showing the book off
i'm planning on:
trogs are definitely coming back, nico mentions their help because hades has forbidden him going to the voice in ToN and also there's this from the preview (x)
nico will at least have to acknowledge his solo tartarus trip which will make me yell and scream i hope he gets to share details of how fuckin horrible it was alone and without the mist ok (x)
general theories
maybe it's not Bob who wants out, maybe it's someone else (Michael Yew?) (x)
helm of darkness appearance (x)
parallels to HoH scene (i have read the first five so like i do know about the cupid reference but i also mean the other parts included in the reblog here x)
because we know we're getting information about will and nico getting together, could the marked flashback chapter(s?) have something to do with that?? (x)
Mark and that character they said deserved more attention (? I’m butchering the quote probably) — Michael Yew and Ethan Nakamura are my top candidates for that but much moreso expecting and hoping for Michael Yew
the idea of Nico telling the truth to will makes me excited and nervous…just had a thought about what if it’s like. the truth of how deep his self hatred goes/how scared he was/etc?? ouch (continuation of the HoH post)
so when I read the leaked preview I had this idea — Nico dreaming in shadows maybe is Styx, and then his mom would be his lifeline. Her calling to him would be her going to tell him to let go/move on/move forward and leave his past behind him...which would be something of equal/important value as Bob the Titan. Like Nico’s whole backstory/life/who he was. — and leaving Nico’s memories has definitely been tossed around at least, and I’d be curious if my first theory for this book was realized at all
i'm hoping for
acknowledgement of will losing siblings, other campers too but will siblings <3 Michael Yew love u (river acheron post)
Nico (and Will) and Small Bob (comic of this)
will not keeping his shit together (x)
partially prompted by Percy saying this in SOH I hope there’s a Melinoe feature especially to explore both Will and Nico’s ghosts
some sort of nod/s to will and Nico knowing of each other before they got together (like the Apollo cabin fighting with the Ares cabin in TLO, callbacks and their POVs on stuff like that)
Solangelo/Hades interaction (would also love any apollo feature and can't decide if TOA makes me think it's more or less likely to happen)
i'm excited by the idea of:
will getting injured and talking nico through how to save him (from this post)
similarly -- "character seeing their SO being fatally wounded and reacting" (see: "will's grip was very weak") (tagged this post as TSATS)
michael yew dream sequence!!!! (x) (as i tagged in that post...maybe what nico has to tell will the truth for?)
reverse octavian situation, where will says someone can't be saved type of thing (x)
learning more about will's tattoo and maybe the reason(s) for getting it (x)
"let me see Nico cross the border of life and death only to emerge then as the most stunning, gorgeous existence this universe has to offer...Or Will. The sun is a star anyway. I'm not picky about it." from this post
will being afraid of snakes (this post)
simply characters talking about being queer!!! would love piper to be in this <3
potentially bianca didn’t go for rebirth and was just hiding from Nico trying to bring her back (in TSON he says that’s what he was doing when he found Hazel)
i wonder if...

Okay okay okay. So now that I calmed down a little (just a little) let's talk about these first two episodes of pjo (there's gonna be "spoilers" ig, and also it may be a little disorganized lmao) :
I LOVED it.
Starting with the slightly "negative" points... There isn't a lot. My only complains are that it was a little fast paced, but I was expecting it because it's a 8 episode season and they had to make choices to keep the quest being the main part of the season, so the first episode being Percy before he goes to CHB and the second being him to CHB before being claimed by Poseidon makes perfect sense. They really had to make the beginning fast paced and put a lot of exposure for the new fans at the same time, and it was still honestly very well done !
The second (and last) complain I have is Gabe wasn't as abusive as in the book, however we only saw him at the beginning of the story for now, so it's very possible we get flashbacks or character's conversations about it later on or, anyway, we're gonna see how he acts on the news and all, so I'm not that worried about that for now, I think we still gotta wait.
I also know some people are complaining it doesn't take place in the 2000's, but come on guys, Rick said multiple times already the story was supposed to be timeless and was always taking place at the time you read the book so everyone could identify, and that for the same reason, the show was going to take place in current time. It's old news.
Overall, I think the changes made perfect sense to adapt the story ! There was the pjo humor, they adapted it perfectly so it could go from "specific humor of Percy POV" to something you can see even if obviously, live action oblige, this is not an "only Percy telling his own story POV" ; they managed to keep the same vibe, and it was important to me so I'm really happy about it ! All of the changes so far were really in character. Dionysos trying to trick Percy into giving him alcohol was genius exposure to explain "the gods need demigods to do things for them".
I was skeptical when we saw in the trailer that Percy had Riptide for the minotaur fight, but it all makes perfect sense now ! It was also a genius exposure to explain how Riptide always goes back into his pocket, without changing the fight that much !
Percy's lines were all so good ! Walker was really in character ! Actually, all of the actors were incredible ! Annabeth really had that Annabeth vibe even if we still didn't see her that much ! Her interactions with Percy were really good and fun, I can't wait to see them become friends in the next episodes !
Luke was amazing too. Really giving that big brother energy. His betrayal is gonna be heartbreaking, I just know it.
Chiron and Dionysos are just PERFECT. Sally too ! Her scenes with Percy were so emotional.
And Grover ? He was just amazing. Really showing how important his friendship with Percy was. Sally making him swear he'll protect Percy was an amazing scene. I CAN'T WAIT to see how they introduce his trauma with what happened to Thalia after that, I can feel it's gonna be interesting. They removed his fake disability, but I can see why they did that – for the same reason they gave Chiron a prosthetic leg, so his disability isn't just a "disguise". There was nothing like that to add to Grover's story so they just removed the fake disability and I think that's for the better.
They really got into the confused emotions of Percy thinking he was going crazy at the beginning and I love them for that because thinking you hallucinate things like that must be terrifying- It made me empathize with Percy about that even more than in the books, I think that's one of the things added in the show I loved the most.
I'M SO GLAD they seem to have removed the weird "crush" thing between Annabeth and Luke, too. That was a weird part of the books and we all know it. I wanted them to remove it from the show and it seems that it's what they did for now.
The CGI was actually very good ! I was afraid when we saw Riptide going from pen to sword in the trailers because it wasn't what I imagined at all, but it was actually good looking in the show ! Same for the claiming scene !
I feel like these were really the exposure episodes, they were doing their job really well and I can't wait to see the next ones to see the plot diving deeper into the story !

fr friendship is so important to stranger things! same dustin and the party are so dear to me and mean the world to me! literally it’s been so long since they had a plot line together and i just want to see them together again.
same like it was so obvious that eddie was going to die to me! ngl when they put heavy emphasis on the years with chrissy and eddie i knew that both of them were gonna die. also they’re side characters in st so lol. literally you can’t force a connection with a character because honestly that’s just going to end up with a lot of people resenting it all. which is sorta what happened.
same i loved wayne’s actor because he was so good and he put a lot of emotion with that scene. fr though like Dustin making that whole speech was very weird from wayne’s perspective which i think maybe dustin being stuck in grieve just didn’t change his wording but it’s still so weird that he just openly said that while also stating it was an earthquake. but yeah wayne def said that.
i saw that ask about the duffers not being able to recognize any other trauma other than loved ones dying and that is so true! especially considering that they didn’t even write the boys having trauma when Will came back about him potentially getting lost. like we see Will talk about being treated as if he were fragile but we don’t really see that with the boys unless it’s actually a life or death thing in season 2 or where they were visibly seeing something wrong with Will.
the party are my babies, and the fact that they’ve been separated for so long kills me.
the second a side character said that year will be his year, i knew he was gonna die, cause come on. especially on stranger things, a show known for killing of side characters.
i think that kinda happened for chrissy with me, like they were just so obviously going for sweet girl you have to love, and for some reason i just couldn’t connect to her. it felt like she didn’t really have any personality traits. and obviously she’s only in like two scenes, so it would be hard to do anyway, but i think we maybe should’ve gotten an actual scene of her and jason together, make them feel like a real couple and real characters. for how long s4 was, no character really got enough focus. we didn’t even see what vecna showed patrick!
it’s funny, because dustin in that scene does exactly what nancy wanted to, and couldn’t, in s2, which was tell the hollands about barbs death. but for some reason when it’s dustin telling wayne it doesn’t matter? and also, not to get all angsty, but it’s like…
idk if you’ve read percy jackson, but there’s this bit with one character’s mum. he dies, and she never finds out (because she’s not all there mentally) and she’s just baking cookies and waiting for him forever, and it’s so tragic, but it also sticks in your head.
like, that’s essentially the hollands in s2. imagine if wayne’s story went the same. dustin doesn’t tell him, and wayne is left just sticking up missing posters because he’ll never accept that eddie is dead without a body, and no one will be able to produce one because it’s in the upside down. like, that’s tragedy! that’s kids dying and no one being able to do anything about it. the kind of shit that haunts you. that at the end of the day, all our heroes are powerless to the upside down and are just forced to watch as it tears families apart, and can’t do anything about it, because if they tell others the truth, they’ll be killed the government.
wayne is the hollands, but he doesn’t have to live in ignorance, searching for his nephew, until someone is strong enough to break into the lab and release the information. because it’s just given to wayne to, again, make us sad about eddie’s death. as much as i dislike nancy’s plot line in s2 (it was too easy), she did have to do some shit to get that info, and it is stressed how serious it is. but in s4, dustin just straight up tells wayne that eddie died fighting to save the town and he was a hero until he got, uh… killed by an earthquake.
yeah, there’s so much trauma that they just ignore in st (because they aren’t good writers for the size cast they have, yet refuse to kill characters)

Everything for Krystar, here we go! 😁
🪩—Would you want a movie adaption, TV, or something else? Animated or live action?
Definitely an anime! No live action. No. Will not approve. Nope. Never!!
🎧—What would the soundtrack be like?
I'm not sure because I've never really paid attention to soundtracks before, but I'd try to add some rock sounding songs for things like fight scenes and such and I 100% want "Still Here" by Digital Daggers to play during the end of the Fragment series. These are non-negotiable. Also, I need an extended opening sequence for Fourth Fragment that goes to I Prevail's "Pull the Plug". Also non-negotiable.
✅—Which character/plot point/etc would be your favorite to see on screen?
The end of the Fifth Fragment... It's what inspired me to start writing the story again at age 29. I saw the ending so clearly in my head, and I'd absolutely love to see it on screen someday, going to the some "Still Here" by Digital Daggers, bawling my eyes out. I'd probably watch it over and over again because that would mean it was finished, that I made it, that the scene that drove me to write so much since then is finally a reality.
If I'm being honest though, seeing the opening scene described below would be just as awesome too, but not near as powerful as seeing the ending. And then there's the Echo series because Stag... Grr, what a jerk, making a whole ass second series just so he can get more screen time. XD Seriously, the story was supposed to end with the Fifth Fragment and then Stag went and made a whole origin story which started a whole other series and it's all his fault it's going to be twelve books now. All Stag's fault. XD
🥀—Which character/plot point/etc is most important for an adaption to get right?
This isn't for all adaptations, just for mine. I need the characters to age the way they do in the story. Because I deal with time, we sometimes go forward and back and characters will be younger and older and this is impossible to do for live action without changing the actual actors. Second to this is my secrets. If I say a detail is important, they better damn well include it in the fucking anime or I'll be pissed. Look, it's important!! Like, if they decided to exclude Taki's interludes or show an extra scene that wasn't in the book because it wasn't in Deshi's POV, then I am not okay with it. The fact that it's in Deshi's POV is very important to me, okay? There are other things, but I'd hate to draw attention to them by pointing them out here. XD Girl's gotta keep her secrets close to the chest, you know.
❌—What’s the worst thing an adaption of your WIP could do? Your absolute worst nightmare?
Making a live action anyway and destroying it like they did Percy Jackson. They changed his 16yo prophecy to 25yo, they didn't have the characters look or act like they're described in the book, and it's like they didn't even read the actual books at all… Don't do that to me. Read the fucking book. Follow the fucking book. Adapt the fucking book. I get that some changes will need to be made for different media types, but there's a right way to do it and a wrong way. At least make it look like you read the book, okay?
🎬—Who would you cast as your characters?
This will take some listening to VAs. The only one I'm sure of, absolutely non-negotiably sure of, is John Burgmeier for Mythren using the same voice as he uses for Shigure from Fruits Basket. Non-negotiable. As for the rest, I'm going to be listening to a bunch of voice actors over the next week so I can pick some for other characters. I will say that I'd love to get Vic Mignogna and Jason Liebrecht for a role, but I'm not sure which ones yet.
🎤—Describe the opening scene
I'm not sure I'd keep it this way which is why I'm sharing it, but this was the scene I first envisioned when the story idea came to me at age 12. There's a girl with her head laid down on a desk and she's presumably sleeping during class. Her desk is right next to a window that goes outside, but instead of the city, it's a meadow. Inside, the colors are dull and boring, but outside the meadow if vibrant and beaming with life. The camera zooms into the window until the classroom and sleeping girl's head are out of the frame and then it goes out to the meadow, traveling out towards something in the distance. It starts to focus on the back of the head of a girl, possibly the same girl, with long, dirty blonde hair going all the way past her backside. She slowly turns around, her hair flaring out, and looks at the camera sadly. She isn't wearing any clothes, but her hair covers everything. Her hands pull out what looks like a glowing blue item (I later decide this is a blue flower) and the sad glow fills her face, making her look sadder. The colors start to fade, to the bland look the classroom had, but it keeps going and going until everything around her is dark and black. She opens her mouth to breath, but then drops the flower, which starts to wilt as it too fades, and cluthes at her neck. Then she she too fades, after she struggles to breathe and eventually stops moving. Then the title would appear: Krystar: First Fragment. This is the scene that 12yo me came up with. I've never forgotten it. I remember attempting to draw it even, but those pictures are long gone. 😅 Whatcha think?
💿—Free space for anything I didn’t mention! Talk about things you would add, things that are important to you, or even lay out the plot of every episode of your Netflix Original if it suits you!!
I haven't planned out that much detail for it actually. I'd love to break out of the standard 13/26 episode blocks and just do as many as are necessary for each book. I've also considered separating B1 in half and doing the second half with B2, for reasons. Either way, the details of each episode I think would be better laid out in comic form, which I do plan on making someday, but the ideal goal is for it to be an anime. Someday, someday.
Thank you so much for the ask, tuuli! You just never let me down. 💙 Hope there was some interesting stuff here for you!
Ask thing.

Tagged by @lament-of-0rpheus and @supermanstoddlerleash thanks for the tag guys :))
10 Fandoms/10 Characters, in no particular order and bolded for readability:
Clark Kent/Superman | DC - Clark Kent my best friend Clark Kent he's just. So fucking important to me. As a TRA
Steve Rogers/Captain America | Marvel (<- 🤡) - unfortunately i do still dabble in some Marvel, although very rarely, and I will just always have a soft spot for him. He's Just Some Guy From Brooklyn, he's the man out of time, he a soldier, he's an artist- *gets pulled off of soapbox*
Zagreus | Hades Video Game - sad titty man
Achilles | Hades Video Game - sad titty man, the og edition
Patroclus | Hades Video Game - SUPER sad titty man. Aurgh
Skulduggery Pleasant/Lord Vile | Skulduggery Pleasant - i fucking hate Derek Landy for making these really complicated and 3D characters and relationships and then writing them Like That. Whatever, Skulduggery still compels me tho
Percy Jackson | Percy Jackson and the Olympians - my OG blorbo
Magnus Bane | Shadowhunters TV Show - I'm actually not as into this as i was, but i do love me a deeply traumatised, deeply sad man with glittery eyes. I have never claimed to have good taste
Sherlock Holmes | Elementary TV Show - okay, i will say i don't actually like viewing this show through a (modern) fandom lens bc i just think. That would do it a huge injustice tbh. I mean that in the least offensive way possible. Elementary's Sherlock is such a genuinely well crafted character that you can tell real work was put into and imo there isn't much, if anything, that fandom style projecting would add to him
Quellcrist Falconer | Altered Carbón TV Show - not really a fandom (afaik?) but that show was so good, and despite the fact that I wasn't a huge fan of the story of S2, i rly loved Quell in it and the 'we are more than the sum of our intentions' scene lives rent free in my head
Started doing this and immediately forgot all my blorbos so this was rly hard lmao. Also realised i need to consume more media.
Anyway, I saw this going around the DC block a lot, so sorry if you've been tagged already! And as usual, no pressure to do it @allgremlinart @alexeishostakoff @nightmareinfloral

Book Review because I'm Bored (2)
~Belladonna by Adalyn Grace 🥀
Tumblr media
I think you know the drill by now so spoilers ahead.
(That was the very first review I did but I couldn't find it when I wanted to post it. Moving on!)
Ok, I'm not too much into books in general but Pinterest suggested this book to me under a Belladonna poster. The plant. Someone in the comments had given a tiny synopsis of the book and I was hooked. Also, I was drawn to it by the cover, the two birds and the belladonna, and the synopsis because I like dark fantasy. And most important it was a love story about a girl and Death. I like it when authors put Death in a romance story or have him interact with humans.
Now, it started well but in the middle and towards the end it kinda lost me because things were happening for no reason and I needed more depth in some of Signa's decisions. And then won me again with some action sequences and how Death and Signa were interacting.
To be honest I wanted their relationship to be built differently, maybe a good enemies-to-lovers arc but it was cute. Especially the 1st scene in the garden, a few more scenes like that and I will be convinced that there were feelings in the air for each other. But Death's confession and sweet talk somehow balanced that for me.
Ok, enough with the sweet talk. Moving on.
Boi the action! The action! The action scenes are what kept me and made me wanna finish the book! In the scene when Death appears in the mansion, Sygna sees him and runs to Blythe's room and then much later, same scene she just runs to Percy's room but still intense.
I really liked how Death was always there in the book, you could feel his presence in every dark corner and pretty much I liked how he was there for Signa and how sometimes was trolling her. Also he was so sweet with animals.
The bridge scene toward the end was really sweet with the souls.
But I rolled my eyes when Death turned out to be Sylas, I had so many ideas about who he truly was, maybe he had a deeper relationship with Lilian or Brythe, or maybe he was Charlotte's boyfriend who helped her to get rid of the family etc. Also, you could tell he was him because no one in the mansion had spoken about him so it wasn't much of a plot twist.
The book had the potential to have some strong plot twists ESPECIALLY with Charlotte because at some point I didn't even know why she was being brought up. Her plant knowledge could be a big wink for something bigger. To be honest, if she wasn't in the final act of the story it wouldn't make any difference. I wanted her character to have more depth. She knew Signa after all.
Now let's talk about Signa. I would liked for her to have a deeper character and maybe show more of her knowledge of venomous plants. After all the book is called Belladonna but I liked the connection of the plant to her and Death. And hated the love triangle that exists in the book. I don't know why the author wrote that but anyway.
I'm not saying it's a bad book, I enjoyed it and even visualize it on the big screen and might give it a second reading at some point but it had weak points that could really take it to the next level if they were different. I want to buy "Foxglove" when it is in my country's stores because I want to see how the story will continue now that Fate entered the picture. I'm excited actually for it.
5 black hearts out of 10 from me 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
I want to see improvement in the second book.

Some thoughts on injustice and compassion in Nikita
I’ve had this post in my drafts for a year at least, but I just got an ask from someone saying they enjoy reading my thoughts on this show, so I decided to finally post this. It’s kinda long, so I’m putting it under the cut
TL;DR: Nikita sees that the system is causing harm to all but a select few who can profit off of it. Saving it, then, is to tear it down, yes, but also to rebuild something kind and just.
“Michael, social services dumped me with Gary. Corrupt cops shook down Carla to steal her money, and they killed my friend. The bureau of prisons helped fake my death. This government has always treated me like I was expendable. And I’m gonna save it anyway.” - Nikita, “Dead Drop,” 2.21
Okay but can we just talk about this moment though???
Like obviously, there are unrealistic aspects to the show, but it’s grounded in enough reality that it really maps onto our current moment and culture. One of the overarching themes of this show is that people in power will set up systems to take advantage of people (be they the main focus of the show, like Division, Oversight, the Shop, etc., or background but still shown to be part of the world building, like police violence, the prison industrial complex, privatized warfare, human trafficking upheld/aided by local officials, the surveillance state, etc.). And it’s so important that the show acknowledges those things, because a lot of other ‘ooooh black ops unit of the government, they go and kill people abroad’ shows or movies tend to valorize or at least justify these units, thereby normalizing all of these systems to us. And so the fact that this show does expose some of that is great. But they also go one step further.
The other big theme of the show can be thought of as either breaking the cycle of violence or surviving and living with horrific pieces of your past. On an individual level, it shows people working to help others. Carla to Nikita to Alex to the many groups of trafficked people Alex helped. It shows the power of providing someone space to heal, a way out, forgiveness for past harm, and forgiveness of themselves. But on a societal level, Nikita is still doing exactly that. She’s fighting Division to interrupt the chain of violence. The whole point is taking people “screwed over,” as Nikita says in this scene, by the system, and then holding a gun to their head and forcing them to kill. It’s the dressed-up-action-show version of prison labor.
Division has a vested interest in maintaining oppression in society, because if we started putting less people in prisons, if we didn’t criminalize so many groups of people, if we didn’t stigmatize prisoners so that they can’t get jobs, housing, etc., out of prison and are funneled back into prison again... then Division would lose its source of recruits. (The real life version of all of this is: cheap/free prison labor that provides profit to those in charge, and prisoners not able to refuse working because they’re charged absurd prices for everything they need to survive...). Amanda calls division agents ‘expendable’ in (s2 ep18). This isn’t even bringing up Percy’s mission-for-hire jobs. The show explains it as operating expenses because Oversight won’t give them enough funds, but like. You can’t convince me he wasn’t at least skimming off the top for himself.
Carla is this weird, contradictory character. On a personal level, she got Nikita clean, she helped her. On a systemic level, she took people from one prison and put them in another (and yes. She’ll say that it was Amanda who perverted her program, but no matter who’s running it, it’s a coercive program). She’s really the most sympathetic representative of that system, because we can see she does actually care on an individual level, at least. And so Birkhoff saying, “You know what really pisses me off? After all this is over, she’s still gonna forgive you. See, that’s the thing about Nikki. No matter how many times the people she loves let her down, she keeps doing the right thing. ‘Cause it’s the only thing she knows how to do” (“Doublecross,” 2.16), shows just how much Nikita can see the humanity in people, and how much she can see the injustices built into the system. Michael and Ryan, as Michael says in the “Dead Drop” scene, came up in the system, but Nikita has never been a part of it. So it’s easier for her to see clearly what’s going on, because she’s never been inside the system, has never benefited from it, in the way they did. Of course, as she points out in this scene, yes, “Ryan got screwed over by the system almost as badly as I did.” But he still grew up trusting it, until his brother’s death was covered up, and he started to see corruption. But he still believed it was fundamentally good with bad actors and organizations, not that the whole thing was designed this way.
Anyway, this is all to say that Nikita sees what Division is doing. She’s doing what she did for Alex, just scaled up to an entire organization. She’s working so hard to keep agents alive and safe, even trying to bring in the dirty thirty alive if she can.
Division is all about “second chances.” But they’re just doing things the same way the second time around. Work for us, or you die. There’s no chance for anything real there. Fancy apartment in the city and cushy cover job or not, they still belong to Division. They can’t make a life for themselves, because their life belongs to Division. And Nikita sees that, and once she gets out, she takes all that pain and anger and turns it on the hand that forged her. But it’s not a destructive rage (I mean. Yes. It is, but not completely.) she’s building something too. Taking down Division doesn’t mean, and never meant, killing every single person there. In fact, she goes out of her way to try to save as many agents as she possibly can, because she knows that even if they’re fighting against her, they don’t have a choice. But she’s there to give them one. She is there to break the cycle of violence. Pull them out of the fire. Everything they do to her, “and I’m gonna save them anyway.”

Entertainment Spotlight: Leeron Amiel
Leeron Amiel voices the character "Michal" in the The AM Archives partner series, Order and Chaos. While she was born in the United States, Leeron, much like her character, proudly celebrates her ties and roots to the country of Israel. She grew up there from the age of 3-12. It makes playing this role and being a part of this story all the more of an honor! Before moving to Los Angeles, she received a BA in theatre from Columbia College Chicago. In LA she has studied with Anthony Meindl and with The Imagined Life acting studio. A Gryffindor, Leeron is engaged to fellow Bright Sessions' actor, Andrew Nowak (also a Gryffindor). They are both parents to their cat, Tonks.
What types of scripts and characters are you drawn to?
Ohhhh man THIS question! Okay so, just like the amazing Michal, I am drawn to powerful, strong female roles. I consider myself a strong female 'type' and boy do I LOVE playing that. Like I loooooove being angry in scenes. Or maybe I just love arguing. Either way, scripts and roles when I get to assert power attract me, and in all ways; like, who doesn't love to yell? But I also love the strong, silent type. One of my dream roles is Emma in Betrayal. And if I could play Olivia Benson in everything, then I would. I also just love being the badass, and I love period pieces. So, I suppose all that means I tend to be drawn to mostly dramas. However, what a lot of people don't know about me is I also really really love doing comedy and have always been told I should do more. I think in this genre I am drawn to the outrageous, as well as the witty. Love me some big acting, sassy goofy roles.
Can you share a story from your career so far that stands out to you as a defining moment?
The one story that comes to mind is how I booked my first co-star. It was August 2018 and I had gone through a huge transformation that summer. As every actor knows, the industry can really get you down. After years of what felt like little success, I decided to step away from acting for the time being and pursue a doctorate in psychology. To do this I had to take some prerequisites at my local community college. I was all signed up and excited about the new journey, but there was still a sense of loss about moving away from acting for a bit. Then, on my FIRST DAY of class I got an audition for the TV show, S.W.A.T. (for a Hebrew speaking role of all things!) I was going, "Oh my gosh, yes, of course, universe - you WOULD send this to me now." But I said to myself, "You know what, you have school ahead of you, you're not going to give up on that. So, what have you got to lose by auditioning? Just go, see what happens." So, I went in with no expectations. I didn't feel pressure to book the job. I was kind of just there for fun and then...I booked it! It was a huge lesson for me about many things. First off, I learned the true importance of a relaxed, playful audition. When I took the pressure off, I was open to be myself and just do my thing. And it worked. And secondly, although I still plan to pursue school, I now know that I am good enough for this industry and should I choose to come back to it (by which of course I mean WHEN, because let's be real - once an actor, always an actor), I will have a lot more hope and excitement.
Did anything stand out during your re-listen of this AM Archives episode that you didn’t notice when recording it?
When re-listening to Order and Chaos it just brought back what I felt when I was recording it. I just remember thinking like, "Wow, this was only 4 episodes and yet there is SO MUCH depth to these characters and these relationships." The feeling that truly struck me this time is how much I just wanted MORE. And I'm not just saying that because I (not so secretly) want a whole podcast about Michal and Percy and the foreign "AMs," BUT. I truly felt like this story and these characters were so well developed for such a quick glimpse, that the listener just couldn't help but want to know more. It's a huge credit to Meghan Fitzmartin who is basically a genius and did such an outstanding job developing these characters.
What’s a fun fact about you that most people don’t know?
I am scared of fish. Especially big ones. Like, they seriously freak me out. It is a real thing, it is called Ichthyophobia and I don't know why I have it. It wasn't always a thing - I would say probably the last 10 years or so - but not when I was a child. Anyway, my fear is not that they are going to do anything to me (although that thought is terrifying) but they just creep. me. out.  They just look so gross and move so weird with their mouths and they don't have eyelids and just blehhhhh. Okay, I'm freaking myself out, I need to stop. Fear of fish. That's my fun fact. So if you ever get the chance to take me somewhere, let it not be the aquarium ;)
Can you share your favorite piece of fan art?
Tumblr media
From @thefigureinthecorner. I so love that Marcus said he made Michal look like one of his aunts because honestly....she looks like ME and my entire family, including all MY aunts! So cool to feel like he could envision me and the sense of cultural pride that both Michal and myself have through my voice.
Thanks for taking the time, Leeron! Give Order & Chaos, Chapter Four: Tabula Rasa a relisten right here.
