those sansa/elia stans (literally the same fandom) throwing a fit over people liking rhaegar, arya, dany and the targaryens while stanning the greens and praising robert fucking baratheon will never not be funny.
you are no better than anyone, get off your high horse.

i’m genuinely baffled by this post below
Tumblr media
the fact that rhaegar fighting on the trident is him protecting his family goes over these peoples heads. he died trying to protect them from the rebels, sorry that he failed. i very much doubt that he was trying to die. but based on this persons logic should we blame ned stark for the deaths of his family then? if you actually read the books then you’d know it was aerys who put the targaryen family in danger. it was aerys who didn’t give brandon and rickard a fair trial. it was aerys who called for robert and ned’s heads. it was aerys who decided to hold elia and her children hostage.
and it is mind boggling that people consider what rhaegar did as cheating. he and elia were in an arranged political marriage. we have very little reason to believe that there was any romantic love there. rhaegar falling in love outside of his political marriage is not some horrible evil act of malice. it’s simply the actions of a very depressed and stressed 20 something year old who finally fell in love.
and the fact that the op firmly states that rhaegar was a shitty prince, husband, and father is literally next level delusion. because from what little we know about rhaegar it is made clear that he was an incredible prince, a good husband who refused to risk elias life for a third child (even though he believed in the prophecy and was right about the prophecy being a big deal/azor ahai did indeed come from his family), and based on rhaenys actions during the sack of kings landing it’s clear that little girl loved her father.
i can’t say it enough. rhaegar died protecting his family. aerys was the one who doomed them. neither rhaegar nor elia owed each other love. nedcat is an exception in westeros.
and how is rhaegar one of the most unlikeable male targaryens? aegon the second and aemond are right there. there’s aegon the unworthy and aerys as well. imo rhaegar is probably one of the best male targaryens.

He talked about the Boba Fett syndrom. It is basically how a side non-character captures the imagination of the reader/viewer way beyond the creator's intent. It's the "cool" characters that have one line or five minutes of screen/page time that gather a cult following. He also said he gets fan letters where people say, "I love Tytos Blackwood. Can we learn more about him?" He called Oberyn Martell one of his Boba Fett characters. - GRRM, 2005, NOVEMBER 22

They keep saying how awful and tragic it is, they love to have sympathy for the Dead Ladies Club and say they deserved better, but if they don't endure duty and sacrifice themselves for others, they're selfish and entitled whores. Alicent/Sansa/Elia fans don't expect men to stop being abusive and violent, they want women to put up with it and endure in silence.
Yep yep yep. Exactly. They glorify passive victims and shit on female characters with agency. I mean I have spoken a lot about it and @rhaenyragendereuphoria has some great takes on this. It's sad.

It amazes me that all the time I TRY to be calm and not despite the Eli@/Martyrell stans completely… something like this appears in front of me
Tumblr media
I think what really shocks me is that in this Fic Robert Baratheon exist and at same time there’s “no archive warming apply”…like bitch we read the same books? Or George write another version of Agot where Robert isn’t an abuser?!! Also why ship Saint Eli@ with an abuser?! Or he won’t abuse her because she is “ladylike” “feminine” and etc?!! Also…TAKE RHAELLE’S NAME OUT YOUR MOUTH!!!!

I only meant that Elia stans behave like she is the only victim in the entire series. Stop twisting my words. I know she is a victim

People in the ASOIAF fandom are very obsessed with passive women they can project onto. The obsessions with the characters of show!Alicent, Sansa, Elia, and Helaena are perfect examples of this.
In the show, Alicent is changed from a woman who actively seeks power and heads the scheming of the green faction into a passive victim who watches and reacts to the men around her. And yet, despite this being a much more boring characterization, the show version is vastly more preferred by her stans. They condemn her book character as simply an "evil stepmother trope" while completely ignoring how their fav is just as blank and tropey as they accuse her book counterpart to be. Alicent stans want her to be the show's blank victimized canvas.
Helaena is someone who the show changed very little in the adaptation, because both book and show Helaena have little impact on the plot other than to be victims of their surroundings. Both women are forced to marry Aegon at thirteen and have his children, go through B&C, and are the least active members of the green faction. The show only added elements to make her more tragic: her dreaming and autistic behaviors. Helaena's character makes her the perfect canvas for certain fans to project themselves onto as she simply exists to be victimized and play the dutiful wife/daughter despite her circumstances, just like the show version of her mother.
Elia Martell is a woman who we know very little about. She died thirteen years before the events of ASOIAF and, unlike characters like Rhaegar and Lyanna, she has no pov characters who think about her enough for us to learn anything about her. The only things we know are that she was loved by her family, was in an arranged marriage to Rhaegar, had his two (confirmed) children, and was brutally raped and murdered by Lannister men. She is an unknown character and, again unlike Rhaegar and Lyanna, has no known active role in the events surrounding the Rebellion. Because of these things, she is, again, the perfect blank canvas for people to project on.
Sansa is, despite being a prominent pov character in ASOIAF, a very passive character. She rarely takes action in her circumstances and simply reacts to them while trying to survive. There's nothing wrong with this, she's a young girl who has never had to fight for anything in her life, it's not unexpected or condemnable for her reaction to her circumstances to be this way. However, her passivity is something her stans obsess over. She is praised for being the "perfect lady" and they project their desires to see her rule onto her and how they view her story.
These women have been chosen by these fans because of their passivity and tragedy. They love that the women have suffered in the name of the "duty" they believe is higher than them. Because they love passivity, they hate the women of ASOIAF who are active in their own lives and fight to better their circumstances. Characters like Rhaenyra, Arya, Daenerys, and Lyanna are all massive influences on the world and purposely chose to challenge the patriarchy. Since they did not take their suffering silently, theses certain fans view them as wrong and hate them. They only love the women they can project on and who simply refuse to fight for better lives.

Being a male character in ASOIAF is the EASIEST SHIT EVER. You may be a sex pest, you may be an utter fool who never had a good idea in his life, you may lose to a teenager on a dragon the size of a horse, you may be pathetically poisoned by your own men, but you will still be showered with praise and admiration. But if you’re a woman or teenage girl who makes a single mistake, tho ? You’re gonna be crucified.
There is a lot of misogyny in the asoiaf fandom. Many in the fandom seem to hate active women (Arya, Dany, Lyanna, Rhaenyra) and prefer passive women instead (Sansa, Elia, Helaena and Alicent) and while I've seen many saying that they would cheer for Alicent if she poisoned her husband and put her son on the throne these same people hate Cersei and Lysa for doing just that.
They have some weird Madonna-Whore Complex and they should be studied.

If Elia and lyanna's positions were reversed
If Rhaegar left his willful, tomboyish, and not like other girl wife for assumingly more feminine, Elia, would the reaction be the same?
Would R x L shippers say it's not their fault and we shouldn't blame R or E because R's marriage was forced to Lyanna?
That we just hate Elia being a girl who chooses who she wants to be with?
Or was it going to be a man who can't bear a woman being independent and strong and feeling challenged because Lyanna has a strong personality?
Would they say that Lyanna wouldn't mind as long as her child is heir and she gets to be queen and get rid of her jerk husband? or would it be humiliating for her?
Or maybe they would say Lyanna wouldn't mind because she is Brandon's sister as Elia is Oberyn's sister, and she is too independent her rough northern self doesn't care if her husband left her ? since she absolutely doesn't love him and because complicated relationships mean zero attraction/love and zero attempts to love each other
Would they say that it is alright because Rhaegar and Elia can be together? or are they going to blame Elia's Dornish nature for thinking she can be with a married man because she sees nothing is wrong with having bastards nor being with a married man? Are they not going to slut shame Elia?
Would they blame Lyanna's impulsive and more tough self for Rhaegar leaving her? like how it's justified that since Elia isn't as fiery or healthy as Lyanna for Rhaegar to leave her? or would they blame Elia for seducing Rhaegar with her more feminine and more allegedly submissive AND her seductive Dornish nature?
Would they write fanfiction about how Rhaegar prefers more feminine delicate desert flower than willful impulsive winter rose like how they do with Elia? Or maybe in their fanfictions, Elia's thrones would represent the stings she caused for Lyanna?
Would they accept the North not being angry and hateful with the Targaryens like how the Dornish shouldn't because the Dornish understand true love and don't mind mistresses or second wives at all in all scenarios?
Would people think Elia was kidnapped and raped? or are they going to be sure that it was consensual since Elia was adult and the sterotypical seductive Dornish, who doesn't mind mistresses and taking married man as lover?
Would they be it's fine because True Love! ? Or would they be furious for Lyanna because she helped and gave Rhaegar everything only to end up overshadowed by Elia?
Would they accept it if George's made it thay Lyanna was fine with Rhaegar having Elia because Lyanna was forced to marry Rhaegar and she and him have a very understanding paltonic love to the point Lyanna care not for her dignity nor all that she gave because she only cares for her child to be king and herself to be queen? Maybe Arthur Dayne, the knight who took his vows seriously, would break them to be Lyanna's lover in this scenario, so everything is ok?
Would they doubt that Rhaella ever cared deeply for Lyanna and Ashara was actully never close to her and just one of many handmaidens, as they do with Elia? Would they say it is because Lyanna is so minor and just a plot device for the North to hate the Lannisters, like how they did this with Elia and Dorne?
Or perhaps Lyanna would be fine because she wants Elia too?
Would the fandom be as apologic with Elia as they are with Lyanna in case she eloped willingly and say that she was totally faultless? and shouldn't be held accountable because of "girl's girl" and "don't put woman against woman," so no accountability? Or that Elia was manipulated by Rhaegar?
And Rhaegar, would the fandom see him as blameless/not that guilty as they see him when he left Elia? Would they also sympathize with the melancholic prince and say: let the poor man have a break and be with his true love! ?
is it a work of art and star-crossed lovers between Rhaegar and Elia in their eyes now? And as someone said, a progressiveness?
Or Would they criticize George for doing this to the cool willful not like other girls Lyanna?
Anyone associated with polygamous culture knows how unrealistic it is for Elia to accept a second wife without being upset about it and has no other choice. And we all know that most will not just be unbothered by it. Women in polygamous/polymorous culture do/would not simply accept it, and when they do, they aren't happy and ok with it. We are humans, and the Dornish are humans, too.
That's just in George's head.

Reason #1000 that Elia fans are reading a different book:
Tumblr media
Elia Martell ??? being the character of all time??? A character who is dead long before the main series appears???
Her husband Rhaegar and Lyanna have much a larger impact on the main series and still if anyone said they are the characters of all time, I'd find it insulting for all the complex pov characters that actually appear on the series.
And what's all this fanfiction about Elia winning the game of thrones? We barely know anything about her. The only part of her story that is important to the main series is her tragic end. Which serves as the motivation for a secondary non pov character ( Oberyn).
That's the importance of "the character of all time", lol.

if the speculation about dyana's storyline and the framing of it is correct, then it's just going to highlight the racism (can you expose something that's already well known?) of the GOT/ASOIAF audience who make up HOTD's viewership.
it's going to expose their racism if they give all the sympathy/understanding in the world to dyana (btw please refrain this from trying to twist this into me saying she would be unworthy of the audience's kindness) that they refused to give mirri maz durr.
many people believe that mirri murdered rhaego (even though the case for it is weak at best) in revenge against dany for the suffering she experienced at the hands of dany's husband. these same people won't bat an eye when mirri is later burned alive because their reasoning is well, she killed a baby, an innocent. ftr its actually perfectly valid and reasonable and morally correct to not want to defend the murder of children so if people were consistent there wouldn't be an issue.
but because people aren't consistent, if my predictions are correct then it'll will do for me personally is send a message that brutal acts of revenge involving children are justified when it's coming from someone who is young, white, and pretty. however, it's suddenly not OK when it's coming from a character who is a woc and is protrayed as not attractive (ftr when it comes to mirri's looks, we're getting dany's biased perspective)
i also don't think its just a class thing either. elia martell is of ultra highborn nobility, and yet so much of the fandom will demonize the martells for not wanting to move on from the injustices that were committed against her. and what do you know elia isn't white.

The majority of Rhaegar/Lyanna stans here are minding their own business but for certain people here (especially "martell stans") is not enough
They keep bashing these characters and they are acting as if they are "oppressed" by Rhaegar's stans
It's boring
This is sooooo true, and why I find Elia/Martell stans to be so annoying even though I love several Martell characters (same with house Stark stans tbh). They love throwing stones and then hiding their hands. They put their hate in the main tags and call Rhaegar a pedophile/rapist/racist/abuser/etc., Lyanna a spoiled brat/heartless temptress, and shit talk shippers cause they think the fanon they invented justifies it but the second a Rhaelya gives a fraction of that energy back, they play the victim. Cause you're right, it's not enough for them. At the root of it, they're forever going to be mad that Rhaegar, Lyanna, and their relationship are popular + important to the story. They swear they don't care but then they never shut up about them. Just another case of people wanting to be morally superior and getting pissy when things don't go their way.

....and I thought that Star Wars fandom was bad. This is insane.
Fantasizing about torturing, beating and humiliating a girl....
Creeping me out so hard ewww
This Lyanna and Rhaegar hate is so wild to me and is starting to be ridiculous. Do y'all know that this is just a FICTIONAL STORY about dragons and Zombies? Do y'all know that these two were just two stupid idiots in love who didn’t think about the outcome of their eloping?
They are not even the worst characters in the series....
There is no need for this type of aggression over literal fiction.
Get help.

oh i see the hotd fandom has quickly reached the levels of racism in the asoiaf fandom concerning non-white/non-valyrian characters; how majority fandom ships a problematic white couple at the expense of the poc around them and how it’s detrimental to the narrative. ah yes, i am familiar with your game…unfortunately
