I just have issues with like... idk, people coming for people who like Billy or like his character or even relate to him at all. Because like, yes he was an asshole, but believe it or not, he was a kid who was abused by his father, abandoned by his mother, the person meant to protect him, and his step mother was too scared to protect him too. And that's a REALITY for some people out there. That is something people have to face everyday. And finding comfort in a character who embodies the possible consequences of that upbringing, or finding some sort of similarity with them (maybe in his anger and violence, or his stunted and confused emotions) and having people tell you you're a piece of shit for liking said character, etc. is so dehumanizing and so upsetting especially if they've faced similar life experiences. You wouldn't go to an abuse victim and just say that shit, all I'm saying is that there are deeper reasons for people to like Billy's character then just "hot man haha brrr", like having a similar home life and similar struggles with anger and emotions due to it and yall really out here just making people feel like shit without thinking that there is maybe a deeper reason for it or maybe they have been dealt a similar deck of cards in life.

We don’t know why he and Stacy were getting a divorce, and although I often like to write in my AUs that it’s because Chase prioritized his work over his family, alcoholism and anger issues also makes my brain go brrr. i almost never devour a book in one sitting without getting distracted, i rarely scrub back to the beginning of a scene to immediately rewatch it, and i have never force-quit a video game in order to immediately replay the level, but all of those things happened this week. cowboy machine go brrr.

Lone Women by Victor LaValle is a gothic horror western. only part of the gothic horror is due to the familial burden placed upon eldest sisters. this book is largely concerned with inheritance, sisterhood and female friendship (in scare quotes and otherwise) but not in a TERFy way.

Adelaide Henry carries an enormous steamer trunk with her wherever she goes. It’s locked at all times. Because when the trunk opens, people around Adelaide start to disappear. (bookshop.org link)

i try to read a couple reviews before writing my own, and there’s been a lot of grumbling that this book is comprised solely of diversity points. to which i say: do you really think interracial lesbians and trans people and autistic kids did not exist in 1915??? this is a pretty typical friend group. the weirdos band together.

i liked this book a great deal and had a good time with it. however, i think the denouement comes together a little too pat. i would have liked this book to be slightly longer than its 306 print pages. there are a lot of characters to juggle and there are two specifically i would have liked to see more so they feel a little less deus ex machina. however x2, i am deeply grateful to LaValle's wife who insisted on this specific ending. there are tragedies that happen in the book, but the book is not a tragedy.

there are in fact a fuck of a lot of threads being carried at all times, despite all these threads coming together somewhat unevenly in the last few chapters. there is a literary sleight of hand so effective (bc you are so relieved a group of characters hasn’t died and THEN so many things immediately happen) that you completely forget to question why the fuck this group left and came back in the first place (although you can come up with a satisfactory answer on your own by like. thinking for a minute). the suspense is sustained and effective as well, i was worried the whole time about something and devoured it in one sitting without getting up (mack, curled up against my side in bed, appreciated this a lot).

how scary is this book? more suspense and dread. there are very few detailed descriptions, there is simply. a lot of blood.

how horny is this book? i do very much like the pair of secondary lesbians (bisexuals? unclear. could be both/either. the distinction would not come for nearly another sixty years anyway). i complain a lot about when women aren’t horny enough, but if you make them both willing to fucking kill in a blink for each other and give me an achingly tender scene like this, im fine with this fairly tame level of horny!

as an orphan with daddy issues, Day of Anger (1967, dir. Valerii) really fuckin hit for me. it's also an a-tier western i would let other people watch, slightly clunky at times but killingly sincere. really fun and unusual jazzy score, good camerawork. i really loved this but am having difficulty explaining why. it's coherent? do you know how rare that is for a spaghetti western???

it also has the best one minute forty-four seconds in any western ever, imo. why the fuck not have a joust!!! i do not watch spaghetti westerns for their restraint or subtlety!!! the HAHAHA SICKOS.meme moments, where it really fucking embraces its genre, are some of the best moments in the film. more FUCK yeah WHY NOT moments in other movies please.

this is one of lee van cleef's three "tutorship" movies (along with Death Rides A Horse and For A Few Dollars More), where he gets paired up with the spaghetti western version of a james bond girl. i don't remember who tagged one of my posts but he really is peak evil dilf here. the way he sets up his own destruction because he as a person cannot do anything else is just. pour it into my open mouth. yes thank you yumyumyum

it is not a complex plot, but thought and care was put into it. scott mary, the van cleef boy in this film, has a real character arc and an ambiguous ending. along with the score and lvc at his evil best, this is a novel example of a spaghetti western. the two-hour cut is here for free on tubi btw.

call of juarez: gunslinger, and i have finally determined that it was free on steam a couple two-three years ago and that's how i obtained it. mystery solved.

the conceit of this arcadey episodic first person shooter: you are semi-retired bounty hunter Silas Greaves, telling stories in a saloon to get free drinks out of your audience. the level can rapidly change as Silas' story changes: as he remembers things or as audience members argue with him. this is overall a pretty successful schtick and continues to be silly goofy fun.

i had so much fun with the first train level, where you are scrambling up through a derailed train over a ravine, that i immediately replayed it. i have never ever done this with a video game before. everything feels so precarious, it encourages speed without literally blowing the track up behind you. it is VERY fun to kick down train car doors and go into bullet time. it is VERY fun to defend a tunnel with a gatling gun. imo the sort of gleeful high-velocity gunfights this game wants you to have work best when you are fighting through a fairly contained level like a train-- the maps where you are running and gunning through an entire town can feel a little overwhelming.

the maps are generally the kind of over the top nonsense you expect from a spaghetti western-- in one level you are scrambling around under/on top of/through a giant trestle bridge trying to stay alive and deactivate some dynamite so the bridge and train stay unexploded. you fight through the ricketiest mine you can imagine! you fight on a steamboat beached in a swamp! you fight in a flooded graveyard in the same swamp! this game is not pretty, per se, but it is handsome. it uses vertical space really well.

the level with Indians is both better and worse than i hoped. Silas is after some Apaches who have escaped their reservation, and is sympathetic about them wanting off the reservation, but you sure do have a whole level about shooting guys anyway. this game leans really hard into, like, woo-woo nature medicine man abilities. luckily they are contained to the one level. this is pretty okay for 2013 (a named tribe, a sympathetic portrayal, they are defending instead of attacking or kidnapping) but they could have done better then and they can do better now.

additionally, i have some beef with the duel minigame-- im old. my reflexes are Not Good. there's a mexican standoff where there are three different things to keep track of and i have failed that duel seventeen times. i may be soft-locked due to a skills issue.

fallow week. im kind of frozen with fear about moving prep and really need to kick shit into gear despite the fact it is all very expensive and very scary. even when you have local people to look at apartments for you, the mere thought of renting an apartment without like Being There and seeing what the light is like and poking around under cabinets for mold and interrogating the neighbors is deeply uncomfy for me.

My hobbies are drawing, painting and sewing. They all require patience but somehow I got none. I also have anger issues (my entire family has). My friends sometimes call me a granny 'cuz I don't have most of the popular social media (besides insta but I only have it to post my art and they don't even know I have it). I daydream A LOT I think It's called maladaptive daydreaming and I'm almost sure I got it 'cuz of my lonliness. I have headphones on 24/7. I'm a good student but studing so much makes my mental health go brrr. I love working during the night and I'm more productive. During the day I'm sleepy and tired. No one knows more about spending all of your time in your room like the Ignihyde Housewarden. Literally, he goes to class via a magical floating tablet or has his little brother go in his place. Look, Idia knows pretty much all he needs too anyways and besides, there are far too many chances for him to run into an NPC the second that he exits his room. No thank you.

Due to this, it was a little hard to actually meet him let alone getting into a full on relationship with him. With his reclusive nature and the similarities that you share in never leaving the room (I am the exact same way), it took a couple of months before you both encountered face to face, in the dead of night, not thinking that either of you would run into someone..... both of you were very much wrong.

As soon as Idia made it back to his room, Ortho 100% could tell that something happened as soon as he saw his big brother, and after hearing about his run in with you? Cue Ortho as the wingman for the both of you.

Now, once in a relationship with Idia, you get to see more of his 'outgoing' side. Namely, his outbursts towards the idiots in his online games. Idia is sarcastic, insanely so. So to finally see this side of him that almost no one has ever seen, it's both endearing and amusing.

Now, it's canon that Idia can draw, meaning that he does draw with you from time to time. Now, he has moments where he is more nervous to show you what he's made, but hearing your praise is enough to finally make him crumble and show you. If there is more praise? Now his hair has turned a vibrant shade of pink.

He absolutely loves your gothic fashion style. He has money, lots of it, and now he has someone to spend it all on. Idia is on online shops all of the time looking for the next thing he can get for you that fits your aesthetic quite well....... would you be interested in cosplaying for him? For his eyes only?

Overall, there are times where he still doesn't think he deserves you, but the more that he sees you camping out in his room, or just hanging with his little brother, he can't help but smile to himself, finally happy that he has someone just like you in his life.

7.  What’s the best thing about the canon you are writing?

There's a perfect statement in the DuckTales artbook that one of the creators makes that I think summarizes it.

"The gold standard of humanizing Disney's classic main 5 characters was A Goofy Movie... he (Bill Farmer) made the silliest character of the main five the most compassionate, relatable, and heartwarming dad character and that's incredible. We wanted to do that for Donald Duck." - Frank Angones (referring to Tony Anselmo's performance)

It is so SO easy in most Disney media to take everything about Donald at face value. To be fair, his creation was meant to be the exact polar opposite of Mickey Mouse. They're foils/rivals and it shows in just about everything they're in together. Where Mickey is calm and friendly, Donald is not. Generally, they tend to be Selfless and Selfish respectively, though I think that's less true nowadays.

But that's what makes Donald so much more relatable. Donald has very prominent flaws and in a lot of his shorts, his comedic stunts could actually happen to just about anyone. He's someone you laugh with because you know what it feels like. There's a very good reason why Donald was the mascot of the WWII shorts. Heck, even the 3 Cabellero's is a perfect example of Donald's ability to reach people. You don't have to understand him to know his struggle.

tldr; The best thing about Donald is canon is that they brought him down to earth with a new and interesting perspective and provide context/explanation to flaws some might take at face value. He's a highly emotional individual and this show doesn't villainize that and provides examples of healthy coping mechanisms.

(Also sorry, how cool is it that he actually went to therapy for his anger issues??? LIKE how often do we really see that??? and it's for Donald of all characters!! My stubborn little baby boi is so good)

8. What’s the worst thing about the canon you are writing?

You know, I think the worst thing is specifically that Disney is big dumb about their main 5 characters not straying too far away from their images.

The only reason that Donald isn't the main character of the Ducktales series IS because of Disney. Despite the fact the show could tackle some really interesting things with him based on their setup, they... can't do it as much. There are things they do in the comics that my heart go brrr, but Donald I guess can't be a main character of a tv show like this with more mature themes or smth idk LOL

Tying into that is how the show writes Della. I really REALLY wish they could have gotten some proper closure about everything that happened, and that we could have watched Dellla earn back her family's trust over a longer period of time. I don't how people are so quick to forgive the fact that she chooses to leave her family behind for her own thrill of adventure. No matter what excuse she has, she still left them. (maybe I just have abandonment issues though LOL)

ALSO Donald... almost constantly remains the butt of nearly every single joke. So even with all of the mature themes they give Donald, a lot of it gets undercut or made even worse because 'haha Donald get hurt = funny.' and yes, when Donald does it to himself, it's usually funny and there's nothing wrong with that. But like, ok.

There's a scene in the comics where Della Donald and Scrooge in the past found an artifact that when opened created a deafening silence. To test the theory, Della opens the idol while scrooge plows his cane into Donald's foot causing him to scream which isn't heard because of the idol.

Stuff like that and like, I get it I do. But there's a very very good reason why I write my Donald as insecure about his familial relationships in general. I've also been inspired by several posts I've seen in the community that talk about this further, and gosh dang it I wish Disney didn't force them to end it at 3 seasons... coming back around to: the worst thing about the canon is just Disney LOL

15. What are your thoughts on the canon ships for the character, if any?

I am here for Donsy literally any day of the week, but specifically only for Ducktales 2017. In franchise canon in general, Daisy is extremely toxic for Donald usually, as she constantly crosses his boundaries and is extremely unapologetic about it (she's also just a brat IMO).

In DT however, they do her SO much justice. Her core of loving fashion is still there, but she is just a woman who's following her passion and working hard for it. Unfortunately, that drive put her in a toxic situation with her employer where she's been put down.

Donald and Daisy compliment and contrast each other in a very interesting way. Donald has effectively had to do very similar things for his family's approval. They're able to understand the constant struggle of sacrificing the things you want or enjoy for the sake of approval. Both of them seek approval for their efforts, and at least in Daisy's case to advance her career.

I really REALLY wish we saw more of those two in the show. It's implied that they spent a lot of time together, and it's just so sweet that Daisy can QUITE LITERALLY understand him perfectly. I think he's very respectful and supportive of her career too. I imagine he'd be more of a stay-at-home dad, or if he didn't finish college, he could do that as well while working on a ship again.

THERE ABSOLUTELY NEEDED TO BE AN AUNT DAISY EPISODE THOUGH!! Like the triplets have their mom back, sure. But Donald is THEIR DAD, and now their dad is dating someone else who they don't know?? It would've been such a great GREAT opportunity to explore a unique side of family dynamics that don't get touched upon in a healthy way. Daisy would be such a good (actual) mother figure to the boys and could get along with them easily.

Like, yeah okay Scrooge is a more main character and I guess they wanted to show him more with Goldie... but Donsy (also the ship name is dumb I'm sorry but that's what I see used)

I wish Daisy appearing didn't sideline Donald further away from his family. Like, I'm super happy that he's able to go on a trip with her in the end. But I think Donald needed more closure with his family AND SPECIFICALLY, HIS GOSH DARN TWIN SISTER before it would make sense for him to move on with his life.

In general, though, I'm really REALLY glad that Donald is given a chance to have a proper love life. I think he deserves a healthy relationship outside of his family, and they both are really great for each other. I have my gripes, but they have very little to do with Donald and Daisy and more with how the show treats him in general.

Cuz I still don’t like the assumption people have it only being one persons fault. I think they both played a role in the way things turned out.

But when I look at Vox’s anger. His hate for Alastor that is something that comes from being seriously hurt and betrayed. And maybe it’s my own experiences too that I see it, because yeah, ppl have hurt me deep enough for me to wish for their downfall.

Especially when you see them prancing around like they haven’t done a thing wrong. That shit pisses you off.

And the thing about Vox is he is so overly expressive about his hate meaning to me how much he is not over it. People that continue to dwell on something like that build up a lot of bitterness, a lot of resentment and because he hasn’t properly dealt with it, it’s why he’s so vocal. His actual feelings are eating him upside. He’s scared as shit to see Alastor back.

That little tidbit of Alastor saying ‘he asked me to join his team I said no and now he’s pissy that’s the tea’

The fact that Alastor even said it, and it had Vox standing front of the radio trying to hide it even tho it’s a radio there’s nothing to block it’s for your ears 😭 just has me questioning NDNSKSKS

Notice how Vox’s part is all slander, it’s all assumptions, it’s literally him just trying to taint Alastor’s image. ALASTOR is the one that actually came in with a real tea drop. And that’s when Vox starts getting so mad he starts malfunctioning. Alastor hit a very soft spot and he did it on purpose.

Wouldn’t it be funny that their beef is really just because of how badly they actually wanna be friends but they can’t be of their own issues?

They had to have worked together for some time. Shipping aside, Alastor to me just seems very self orientated. He is out here for himself, everything he does has an angle. He is not here at the hotel simply to help if he wasn’t getting something out of it.

I don’t care what you say he has an alternative motive. And I think that’s what makes it sadder because he probably does end up caring even if it’s just a little.

Hell, his relationships and bonds he makes at the hotel might even be an insight to how things went with Vox.

Because he is very much an avoidant attached person. The moment things get a little too close for comfort, or it interferes with his plans, if it makes him question himself even a little he’s going to ruin it. To maintain what he’s been trying to do since he got to Hell. Being the most powerful, cause chaos. Bonds? Connections? Love? Those things are liabilities. They become weaknesses to someone like Alastor. I don’t think he’s incapable of them, but I do think he puts them at a distance because of what his goals are and doesn’t want to let them interfere with him reaching them.

I feel like Vox, was something he had to break off because of how close he was getting. I think that’s part of what happened. Because even if Vox was with the Vees, he still wanted Alastor to be apart of it. He still wanted Alastor to be around.

People saying Alastor left because Vox changed. Maybe. It’s def a possibility and a reason for a lot of fallouts between friendships. Like I said, I don’t think one person is to blame there’s a lot of factors to this I am sure of it.

I just think, the complicated and sad stems from it actually being kind of simple but because of the two being as they are it’s what complicates things. Ya know what I mean?

This is an open tag.

First up is, predictably, Haven.

Ex Mortis is an Evil Dead song, and one of the BIGGEST influences on Haven's story is the Evil Dead. She and Ash are very similar people, which is incredibly funny to me because if Haven ever met Ash Williams she would kill him on sight.

I picked a more serious image for her, but yeah a big theme of her story is her feeling inhuman, distorted, and just dealing with all of that. And really, that's what being a partial Void creature like her is, is a constant state of distortion in the fabric of reality itself.

“I don’t care,” Cass snarled, a sudden, vicious anger welling up inside of her, blossoming from that cold, helpless pit. “I never wanted any of this. Everything I ever had is gone, and now I’m being told that I can’t even fucking leave to find something new. Fuck you. FUCK YOU.”

Here, she's trying to bargain with a demon that would allow her passage to another world, and she's just been told that she's going to hurt a lot of people if she runs away. It's a pretty solid glimpse at her character after the incident that resulted in her becoming immortal, and this is the state she starts A Wolf Amongst the Stars in. Having just lost her entire family, her friends, and her normal life, not to mention her hand.

And because I haven't talked about her in forever, I'll do my other favorite severely fucked up woman, Lucent.

A large part of her later arc is dealing with the consequences of some actions she takes that results in deaths and torture and stuff. Lucent also has SEVERE self worth and self esteem issues from the dehumanizing torture she suffered as a war prisoner, and she has a hard time realizing that she is, in fact, worthy of love.

Hehe, ice imagery because Lucent has cold powers go brrr. But anyways, there's Layers to this one, cause not only is she trapped by her own trauma, she also feels trapped by her powers, because she has a genetic disease linked to her powers that can make her prone to violent and harmful outbursts that leave her stuck in a state where she will maul anything in sight, and those outbursts also take a HUGE toll on her body.

They were in each other's faces now, Kira glaring up at Allison, and Allison looking down at her like she was dog poop she'd just stepped in. Lucent shoved her way in between them. She was even shorter than Kira, but her stockier build made her just as, if not more, intimidating. “Leave my friend alone you-” she spat a curse in her native language that made Kira snort.

That snort quickly turned into a curse of her own when Lucent pulled a knife and held it to Allison's throat. “Hey! I told you to leave that at home. Do not cut the asshole!”

Very early in the Dimension Jumpers saga Lucent my beloved she has no idea how to human. She is viciously protective of herself and of her things, and since her culture is a little more warrior-like and honor-bound, Lucent sees it as her duty to protect her friends.
