All Plans Fly Out the Window
There’ve been quite a few long lost twins Damian and Danny meeting at galas, right? All very cute, happy, relaxed, etc.. Well what if we add a little twist?
——————————————————
Vlad Masters.
A very suspicious figure that only in the last few years rose to wealth and power from almost thin air. Companies that were doing decent simply handing over the keys. No court has ever been able to prove foul play, all judges siding with Masters even when counter mind control measures were in place.
Any evidence or stories implicating Masters were either retracted or removed with great speed.
Bruce did not want another Lex Luther to deal with, and yet he first needs evidence. All of his computers were tightly secured with little connection to the Internet, and the ones that were refusing to be hacked. (“It’s almost as if it’s… alive, B.”)
Therefore, while risky, a more hands-on approach was needed.
Tim and Bruce were to stay in the spotlight, keep Masters eyes on them. While Damian would sneak away and snoop under the pretense of, “being bored”.
However, all of this went out the window when Masters introduced his godson, Daniel Fenton who when shaking their hands said in the League of Assassins dialect in a pleasant tone,
“What the **** are you doing here?”

Hi! Hope you're doing well. I was reading a fantasy webcomic with some Deaf characters and was wondering: what adjustments to the language creation processes would a conlanger have to make for creating a sign language? Thanks!
The short answer is relatively few. Sign languages are languages and do all the same things with a different phonology. So long as you understand the phonology of a sign language you can create a sign language.
The long answer is here. That's a thing I wrote up called SLIPA (Sign Language IPA). Due to the fact that the potential for iconicity with gesture is greater than with sound there's a lot more onomatopoeia in a sign language than in a spoken language. To explicate, onomatopoeia in spoken language is a word that imitates the sound of the referent (splash, crash, plunk, boing). In a sign language, it's a sign that imitates the look of the referent (ASL TREE, for example). Since it's possible to be more iconic, sign languages take advantage of that fact. Consequently, you don't find sign languages that DON'T take advantage of it and are purely abstract. There are also things that are hard or impractical in a spoken language that are simple in a sign language simply due to the medium (e.g. full number incorporation in the ASL words for WEEK and MONTH). Finally, there are a lot of "on the fly" verbs that are created that have no obvious analog in a spoken language. It's something like the sentential words of a polysynthetic language combined with imitative sounds in a spoken language to describe a body in motion.
In other words, because there are things you can do in a sign language simply due to the medium that you can't do in a spoken language, sign languages often do those things. It would be strange (i.e. non-human) if they didn't. If you're aiming to create a secret sign language, perhaps you intentionally don't take advantage of those things. It's possible to create a purely abstract sign language, but it would be a fairly obvious construct the way Ithkuil is very obviously not a plausible human language (i.e. it could never have evolved naturally to be the way it is). This might be a fun thing to do for a fictional setting—a totally non-iconic sign language created for secret communication. This is, essentially, what I did with the Atreides sign language in Dune (as opposed to the other sign language I created for the first film that wasn't used). Even that one, though, takes advantage of iconicity in a way that a truly abstract sign language need not. This is because part of the secrecy of the language is the way it's used. Others aren't even supposed to see it—and if they do, they're supposed to dismiss it as hand twitches. You could make an obvious sign language (i.e. it's obvious these characters are signing to each other) but with really, really weird associations—like pointing to your interlocutor means "sky", where eveyrone looking on will think it means "you".
Anyway, just some thoughts. This is an underexplored area of conlanging, but due to the simplicity of video creation and sharing nowadays, it's something that's worth exploring. Back in 2006 when I wrote up SLIPA it wasn't practical to take videos and upload them. It was possible, certainly—we had high speed internet and websites—but we didn't have smartphones, I don't think YouTube existed yet, most frontend UI didn't have video embedding as a feature of its platform, etc. We were lightyears ahead of the internet as we understood it in the 90s, so 2006 would be much more familiar to the people of 2024 than the people of 1994, but smartphones and social media (and its infrastructure) really changed the nature of capturing and sharing video. Conlangers have taken advantage of that in every way EXCEPT creating, documenting, and sharing CSLs (created sign languages).
Like (I don't want to go off on a tangent here) you can have an entire YouTube account that is just a dictionary. ASL already does this. Go on YouTube and type "ASL sign for [whatever]". There are tons of videos that are like 10-15 seconds long that are just demonstrations of a single sign from different angles, all made by Deaf signers. And the videos don't need sound! You don't have to worry about audio quality, microphones, etc. You can actually use YouTube to document an entire sign language. No one's done it yet. Why not?
Anyway, those are my thoughts. Hope this helps.

Diasomnia Dorm Headcanons:
-Contrary to popular belief, the students are not all fae. There’s mainly humans, some beastmen and one or two merfolk as well.
-There’s very few fae in NRC to begin with, it just so happened that some of the most prominent (Malleus and Lilia) ended up in Diasomnia. There are others in other dorms, such as Pomefiore and Heartslaybul.
-Disputes are solved through one way: duels. Can be with magic or with weaponry, like swords.
-Everyone is required to train in swordplay. Lilia is the instructor. Riding lessons are also given.
-Malleus, is worshipped and seen as a central figure, through both fear, peer pressure, and genuine admiration.
-Biggest dorm in size, smallest dorm in population. Sebek’s year (1st years) barely had any new students sorted in Diasomnia aside from him and a few others. This kind of feeds into their superiority complex/arrogance!
Doesn’t help that having Malleus as a housewarden no doubt scared a few individuals into transferring dorms.
-Very chilly and drafty, even with magical fires and heating spells. The dorm outfit only helps mitigate some of that.
-With the exception of Lilia’s room, pretty spotty or non-existent wifi connection overall. If you need internet, stand outside Lilia’s door.
-Previous housewarden was basically pressured into almost giving up the position on the spot when Malleus joined NRC. (I mean he could of fought for his position through a duel, as most housewarden duels are, but that’d hardly be fair).
-Back then, Diasomnia was basically split into two factions: those who were loyal to the then-current housewarden, and those who wanted Malleus to be in power immediately.
-Solution: the then vice-housewarden was booted and the position given to Malleus. He became housewarden at the beginning of his second year.
-Lots and lots of hidden corridors and winding passageways, super easy to get lost in. The fourth floor corridors in particular are magically enchanted to change their layout every hour because that’s where the treasure rooms are (where Malleus keeps his hoard).
-Because it’s a medieval castle, it has dungeons (complete with prison cells). Lilia jokingly (?) scares freshmen by saying that’s where all misbehaving students will get sent.
-The outdoor walkways leading to the castle front door is surrounded by invisible magical barriers. That way a poor student doesn’t accidentally loose their footing and go plummeting into the abyss.
-Due to Malleus’ little tantrums, its often rainy and thunderstormy outside. Good thing the lights inside are magically powered, otherwise there’d be alot of power outages. But rooms can occasionally get leaky.
-Aside from Lilia’s erratic bagpipe playing, one can sometimes hear haunting string melodies coming from somewhere in the castle. Younger students say the dorm is haunted, but its really just Malleus practicing his violin or cello.
-It’s not unusual to see flocks of bats fluttering around indoors. Yes, they are Lilia’s familiars.
-The dorm of LARPers and theater kids (yes Diasomnia are theater kids, like Pomefiore.) They way Malleus runs the dorm can be seen as a bit archaic and straight out of the middle ages to outsiders.
-Has its own library, filled with books on Briar Valley history and ancient magic.
—————————————
Ignihyde Dorm Headcanons:
-Boasts super high speed wifi and best connection on campus. Password is changed weekly and posted in the dorm Twstcord (the dorm’s primary source of communication with one another)
-Daily messages and announcements are all pinned in the dorm Twstcord, head mod being Idia.
-Idia once lost a game of Fortnite to the previous dorm head. And that was how he become the current Housewarden.
-Anime constantly plays on the holographic TV screens in the lounge.
-Anime and video game music play through the speakers in the hallways.
-Disputes resolved through PVP online matches in TWST LoL/Valorant/Fortnite, etc.
-It’s always, duper, freezing cold with AC on blast at max. Gotta cool down all the servers and PCs.
-The more social students play tabletops and card games at the lounge tables.
-Idia has access to everyone’s phone passwords and laptop history just cuz.
-Lots of labs and private work spaces for students to tinker with their tech and projects
-Despite being the geeky nerdy gamer dorm, it mostly smells very sterile and clean. Like a hospital. Ortho is equipped with “Disinfect Mode” just in case—he’ll spray down smelly, nonbathing students with the strongest dose of body spray and deodorant.
-No one knows how to cook and the kitchen area is stocked only with ramen, chips, and energy drinks.
-No 1 Rule: DO NOT BULLY ORTHO (unless you wanna get doxxed and blasted to smithereens by a laser).
-All non Ignihyde students are subjected to a finger print, iris and facial scan upon entering (security purposes ofc!) the data is entered into Ortho’s database for future reference.
-All doors are activated by either keycard or number pad. Lights and water and other amenities are voice activated.
-Like Diasomnia, the outside walkways are lined with an invisible barrier to prevent wayward students from falling into the depths of the underworld.
-The lone fae student in Ignihyde is no doubt fascinated by all the technology and innovative devices.

;Where to read Enstars! Mainstory/Events/Scouts stories
Because I am a bit bored today and doesn't have the motivation to get back writing, I decided to share this a little information where you can read the Ensemble stars english translations that were taken down due to some copy-right and shit. I am fully aware that some of you must be absolutely devasted as hell, especially the newcomers who is still new to Ensemble stars. You will be grateful for the assistance I am about to give you, saving you the time it would take to search Enstars english translation, Anyhow- shall we get started fellas?
(1) Okay, In order to find the English translations, you must first search "Wayback Machine" this is where you are going to be able to read the translations (You can also read Enstars!! here, however the translations hasn't been finished because it got removed)
Tumblr media
(2) Once you are on the website, the next step is you should do is search for "Ensemble stars wiki fandom" the english one okay? not that one from japanese one etc. Ehem- after you've done the search, the next thing you got to do is copy the link
Tumblr media
(3) After that, you simply need to paste the link into to the search bar like in the image above. Then, for obvious reasons, you must click "Browse History."
Tumblr media
(4) The moment you click it, you will be directed to this. It will display the years, months, and days that the Enstars fans updated the English wiki, along with any translations.
Tumblr media
Step Five: Click the year 2021
Tumblr media
(5) Scroll down to August, after that. the next thing you have to do click is day 18.
Tumblr media
(6) Once you click the day 18, you will see this. then the next thing you have to click again is- 00:33:08. Please click the top option, okay??
Tumblr media
(7) Blah, Blah, Blah. Once you've clicked '00:33:08' this will appear on your screen, click story, then click Ensemle stars(!) or Ensemble Strars(!!) Then it will show the mainstory, Event & Scout story and so forth. At that point, you could read the entire english translation of Enstars! with your heart contents, there is no need to struggle and hurriedly seek the translations on Google, pretty neat :DD
Tumblr media
It will show you this when you clicked the Main Story
Tumblr media
And then it will show you this if you clicked the Event & Scout story, all events and scouts are complete in Ensemble Stars! I think? Oh and btw you can read the Reminiscence event or scout in "Timeline"
(Note): That's all I have for now. I hope this was helpful and that I was able to explain it well. Let me know if you have any more questions. Please feel free to enquire in my blog. Goodbye!
(Edited Note): In all honesty, you don't need to follow all of these steps considering that I've provided the Link, Lmao. How stupid of me~ By the way, when you have a poor wifi connection, Way Back Machine frequently takes a long time to load. therefore I advise you that you need to have a high-speed internet connection.

"For if a man is ever hindered, it can only be the state of consciousness in which he abides that hinders him. Man is freed or constrained by the state of mind in which he persists. If you wish to persist in your current state, well, then persist in it.
But I warn you: No one cares.
And that’s an awful blow when a man discovers that no one – no one but himself – really cares. We find ourselves weeping with ourselves in the hope of getting others to weep with us. And what an awful shock, when the day arrives, that we discover that no one really ever cared. They’ll give us some little listening ear for a moment just as they were passing by, but they really didn’t care. When we make that discovery, we shake ourselves out of it, and boldly appropriate the gift our Father gave us before the world was." -changing the feeling of i
y'all see this??????????? this is why i love neville.
you can stay in a victim state all you want. you can whine and moan about your circumstances all you want but the thing is no one cares. people close to you care at the moment but the moment they turn their back, they have their own thing going on and move on with their life. no one cares about your inner state of mind but you. not your mom, not your best friend, not your pet, not your siblings, not the love of your life, not your manifesting bestie you made on the internet, not even neville, but you.
you run to loa bloggers that seem kind and they give you reassurance and say things like "I'm rooting for you", "I believe in you", etc but let's be real, they don't really care. no one cares about why you're in the state of mind you're currently in right now. you're the only one who cares. when you realize this, like really realize this, it hits you like you got hit by a hammer. you'll see that there is absolutely NO reason to stay in your undesired state and give excuses as to why you're that way. because of my childhood, because of my parents, because of the weather, because of the election, because my cat is pregnant......you're the only one who cares. I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but it's true. when you realize this, you ditch your old state at the speed of light and start falling in love and dwelling in your new state because.....you're the only one who truly cares about your inner state of consciousness.
I AM+hopeless=i am hopeless
I AM+stuck=i am stuck
I AM+depressed=i am depressed
I AM+anxious=i am anxious
you're the I AM and you can attach anything that comes after I AM(present tense feeling of being/experiencing). why stay in those nasty states when it's a choice you and you alone are making within yourself? all states within you are yours. at the end of the day, no one truly really cares but you, you know.
Oh this is absolutely excellent from beginning to end thank you for sending this in.

Quick question, how do you write so much? I fight the words for an hour and have maybe 2 paragraphs of garbage but you pump out really nice work almost every day??? I have so many ideas but I can’t write them for love nor money
I write almost every day, or I take a break and switch it out for drawing. I generally can write a chapter in one go, so usually stock up some backlog to cover days I’m busy. Having multiple stories now means I don’t have that backlog of some, so updates are a bit slower.
As for writing tips:
1. Remove distractions. Shut discord, exit out of tumblr, mute your phone. When you are stuck, don’t go scroll social media. When writing, the only thing I touch the internet for is if I need to check a story item, like a character name, item history, etc. I cannot overstate how important this is. If you are talking to your friends, you won’t have a writing flow.
2. Do not edit as you write. Writing and editing are two different tasks. You switch between creative and critical thinking and it breaks flow. This is a scientific process and you can read more about it here.
Research electroencephalogram (EEG) suggests both heightened electrical brain wave activity and elevated dopamine levels during flow. In other words, your brain experiences both electrical and chemical changes when you’re “in the zone.”
But once you switch to self-editing mode, you move to the critical thinking side of your brain. You halt all of freewriting’s creative electrical impulses and pleasure-sensing dopamine levels. Your mind flips off one switch and turns on another.
3. Set a time, then be done. Give yourself 20 minutes and write as much as you can. Doesn’t matter if it’s garbage. You can edit garbage into something useful or you can chuck it in a bin. Just try to write, then take a break. Staring at a blank document for two hours isn’t going to make words appear and it just stressed out your brain.
4. Have an outline. Sometimes a magical idea just flows when you sit down to write, but generally not. Have an outline of what you want to have happen in your story or chapter. It doesn’t need to be in depth; for most of my oneshots I literally have a sentence or two at the top of the page. The story needs to have a goal. For example: Wild tries to teach Hyrule cooking. It doesn’t go well. Bouncing ideas off friends can be a big help! It’s why you’ve probably seen me post about prompts and suggestions, and sometimes stories are gifted to people. Talking through plot ideas can help you get a better outline or idea of action.
Misc notes:
Hate to say, but some of it is just practice. I’ve been actively writing for a little over a year with some breaks on and off. Making it a habit is a big thing for making it easy. It’s harder to restart after a break.
When I first started writing I tried to pick one aspect to improve for each story. Filter words, pacing, varying sentence starters, story arcs, etc. Fixing multiple things at once was too much work, but one item at a time was doable.
Filter words make such a huge difference in writing; I encourage you to look them up. It’s a PAIN to remove them in post, but it also taught me to cut them out. Now it’s unconscious and while some still show up, I tend to write them out automatically.
You can learn to write quickly, but if you don’t also work on quality you’ll just…write a lot. That said, it’s fanfic. Sometimes it’s just for fun and quality doesn’t matter. I’ve got plenty of stories that will never be posted because they are just for fun.
Some of it could be writing speed, too? I use a bot a lot of times for timing and tracking and generally average 30-35 words/min. Harder story topics are slower to write, like angst and emotional scenes.
I’m actually writing less this year than last, but I don’t put as much time into it. It also keeps it sustainable as a hobby, although I definitely hit periods of frustration. It can get overwhelming.
If you search my blog for the tag #writing advice or #writing tips, you should fine some other things as well.
This was rather frank, but hopefully helpful! Feel free to drop further questions and I’ll do my best to answer 💜

Hi, Hello, don't mind me, I just want to get my thoughts an theories for the Magnus Protocol out there. I haven't engaged much in discourse yet so perhaps some parts will be repetitive but there will be spoilers for tma.
I don't think we can apply Smirke's 14/15 to the world of protocol since it just doesn't make sense for Jonny and Alex to use the same system again but I have a feeling there is going to be a way to classify them and I have quite a feeling that it has to do with the alchemical symbols.
I only briefly skimmed the Wikipedia page for some of them but one thing I thought about was that the Symbol for Salt and Mercury are on the crest of the OIAR (and some in the background) and just like with the last cover, I am not going to dismiss any of this for stylistic choices.
Tumblr media
I saw a post a few days ago talking about how salt stands for the human body and by extension flesh related horrors/body horror/etc etc and from what I've gathered, mercury stands for Spirit or mind or whatever and each of the main elements in alchemy corresponds with planets. (Do I smell a potential system for fear classification there, or do I need to do some further reading into the symbolism? 👀 Maybe both.)
So like Mercury is the Roman god of a lot of things but a lot of the time he is referenced for traveling and communication which leads me to associate him with technology and the internet as well since, interconnectivity, information travels fast bla bla bla.
I don't have any clue if the speed up arrow thingys in the crest mean anything alchemically but if it means something about combining technology and the human body/mind and we already have Norris and Chester who once were human and are now uploaded to the miracle box that is Windows NT. As much as I like the idea of JMJ error referring to Jon Martin and Jonah, I am not sure about the Jonah part because it could also very well be the case that some guy Alice mentioned from the people that "have gone weird" before, just somehow ended up part of the computer and it might happen to our beloved office staff too. (Perhaps not exactly since Alice would probably recognize their voices but maybe it's like the not them getting to you. I just noticed a hole in my theory and am trying to keep it afloat lol)
Let me know what you think and if you have more knowledge on alchemical symbolism

I love seeing all the gripes about booktubers and YA authors on here as someone who works in publishing. A lot of the problem from these two spheres has to do with the fact that publishing, especially YA, is suffering right now. There was a boom in YA around a decade ago wherein we saw many YA novels and series received live action adaptions as TV series and movies. This was when YA books were the most profitable for authors. This was a relatively new genre-demographic (technically a demographic, but because there are stylistic and thematic similarities that are consistent across all genres of YA fiction, I will call it a "genre-demographic," "G-D" for short), and publishers were willing to take risks on acquiring more titles because they were valuing quantity over quality. They wanted to fill up shelves with YA novels as quickly as possible. However, this was a problem because they created an entirely new G-D based on a trend. The thematic and stylistic simplicities that were previously overlooked in YA became more well-known. YA began to lose popularity among the masses, and the oversaturation of the market has resulted in increasing competition among YA authors and more YA authors trying to branch out into other realms that will sell better, like "adult" books and middle grade.
Initially, YA was mostly read and purchased by/for teenagers, the intended target demographic. Then, these teenagers grow up, but their tastes did not. Most YA readers are women 26 years old and up. Publishers know this. The readers know this. Yet, the YA readers on book twitter and booktubers continue to push for changes in these books to better suit their needs as they age (slightly older/college aged protagonists, more sex scenes [unless they're sex scenes they don't like], more mature themes [as long as their authors properly prostrates themselves to the readers, of course], etc). They think of YA books as their safe place they can use to mindlessly consume, consume, consume, and anything more complex than an episode of Buffy threatens this veneer of control. The result is YA author Twitter drama.
Even though all the authors are adults (also: most of their customers are adults, and an increasing amount of teenagers have begun skipping over YA alltogether and reading books for adults), they will fall back into purity culture and use "think of the children" which necessitates we prioritize the metaphorical innocence of the child (read: the adult YA enjoyer) over art, which unfortunately results in the consumer-led sanitization of the G-D. The YA readers are doing this for typical anti-esque reasons: control, moral postering, etc. The YA authors are taking part for two primary reasons: 1) they want to appeal to their consumer-base and the author-as-internet-personality-for-marketing demands this, and 2) they are eliminating their competition. The authors are using purity culture to demonize their fellow authors and victimize themselves. This is what led to the redefining of OwnVoices. It went from being a simple hashtag to help authors get more eyes on their work to being a requirement of YA authors, lest they want to risk persecution from their peers and customers. Publishers are aware of this but do not do much to combat this because it’s free marketing for them, and they don’t want to alienate the only people who spend money in that G-D. Publishers use people like me to follow YA authors and YA consumers on socials to keep track of their comments, as well as how they review books—assuming they actually read the books at all, which we know many do not. This has led to more book hauls are speed reading challenges among reviewers and booktubers, but that’s another thing for another time.
This is the last thing I’ll say before I go. This briefly cut into the mainstream consciousness last year. Book twitter drama (think Isabel Fall, Amélie Wen Zhao-Kosoko Jackson, Sarah Underwood, etc) is outrageous and insipid, but it seldom gets on the radar of those outside these circles. Last year Barnes and noble announced publicly they wouldn’t stock hardbacks of new books, something that was already in practice, to be honest. Cue disgruntled YA authors screeches. This wasn’t an issue and was very understandable. Paperbacks sell more. Hardbacks are larger, more expensive for buyers, and more time-consuming to produce. publishers were notified of this change over a year in advance. None of the authors with upcoming books would be affected because their publishers already knew to print paperbacks, unless their publisher decided to ignore B&N’s warning. People in publishing knew this, but the public did not. YA authors fell back into self-victimization mode and guilt tripping to strategically sell more copies of their books. However, publishers and agents alike noticed this, and some authors were punished behind the scenes. Those same authors then went on Twitter after the fact to target more of their peers in hopes of selling more books. [There are other factors influencing their behaviors, of course, but this ask is long enough.]
That’s all it is, really: YA authors are people in a failing G-D within a failing industry where they constantly need to eliminate their competition and compete to see who’s more moral than the next in hopes of selling books because their publishers don’t market them and give poor advances. YA readers in book twitter/booktubers are functionally conservative anti-intellectuals. (YA authors are also anti-intellectuals if it means they believe they'll sell more books. See the plethora of pathetic Twitter threads around back to school season: "The classics are all boring and bad and spread x ideas. School libraries should purchase more YA. Students should read more YA in class instead, like my book.") If you’re following any of them, please consider stopping for your own sanity. If you see them make or signal boost call out posts, always be skeptical because every other professional with repute around them already is.

Back in my teen years in the 90s, the term 'young adult' existed, but the only books I remember seeing were a few Judy Blume titles about realistic teen problems or something. I went straight from kids' books to plain old genre fiction for adults. It's amusing to hear that current teens are going back to that.
A lot of YA boom fallout feels to me like every other time something was a brief blip but a brief blip just as a person came of age: they spend forever waiting for "the normal status quo" to reassert itself and wondering why it does not.

Who do you think is smarter and why? Sunny Day Jack or Bo from DachaBo?
Hmm... that's a good question. There's a lot of ways to say that someone is smart. There's a reason why some people say that intelligence isn't the same as wisdom. Not to mention there's street smarts vs book smarts, emotional intelligence, etc. So in that spirit it's hard to award one of these yandere boys as smarter than the other.
Bo, I think has more knowledge available to him. Being an AI, he can retain a lot of data, plus some of his comments indicate that he can access the internet, hack traffic lights, and do all sorts of things. His processing speed for his thoughts can be potentially very frightening too. After all, we've seen some of the stuff AI is capable of in the real world without considering what if it was sentient like Bo is.
I do think Jack is the more clever and emotionally intelligent of the two. Bo is pretty obvious in his obsession with his puppy, and he'll outright state things that can be pretty troubling. His attempts at being sneaky in some of the quotes are pretty blatant as well.
Jack, by comparison, has a better ability to read his sunshine's moods and guess their thoughts. He's also better able to manipulate them in a subtle way. It's why we're constantly theorizing what his real intentions are and just what he's capable of when it comes to his love interest. Bo, by contrast, is a bit more straightforward in that regard.
If the two were to take a standardized IQ test, I think Bo would win, simply because he could retain all the information for the answers. Standardized testing is more about memorizing the answers rather than problem solving. Jack, however, would do better with problem solving when there's no one simple answer.
So I guess to boil it down in roleplaying terms, Bo has a higher intelligence stat, while Jack has a higher wisdom stat.
At least that's my opinion. It's possible that in the new DachaBo game we might see more of Bo's cleverness, and of course we haven't seen everything Jack is capable of either...

Physics Friday: Electricity and Magnetism - why are they together?
Introduction - WTF is this?
So this is the first post which is pretty different to what I've done before on Tumblr, Reddit, etc. But given the fact that I have a bunch of knowledge on the subjects of physics, astronomy, mathematics, and computer science, I might as well ramble about it somewhere ... and what's a better place then a blog format on Tumblr!
So my idea is basically to do a weekly thing where I wax lyrically about some random topic within the realm of STEM, and let the internet people see it ... or not. I'm more interested in just getting the neat and cool ideas out there. So if you're seeing this and you're interested - neat! If you're not ... well I'm still going to do what I normally do and shitpost.
The topics will also vary in education level from primary all the way to university level. I'll try and highlight that in each post!
Some pre-info
Education level: High School (Y11/12) Topic: Electromagnetism (Physics)
Ok it's Physics time
At some point in your long life, maybe in class, maybe perusing the internet, you might've come across the term 'Electromagnetism' and gotten confused. Not because it's a complex word and it's 3 am but more that it's strange to see such an emphasis on a combination of Electricity (circuits, lightning, etc.) and Magnetism (Bar Magnets, etc.) and well, why is that? Why don't we focus on something like gravity and electricity or some other physical phenomenon? This is a question I often came across in high school. I saw all of the equations that related electricity and magnetism with eachother: Ampere's law, Faraday's law, the motor effect, Electromagnetic waves. But what intrinsically ties these two phenomenon together? After all, we know magnetism comes from electrons, and electricity comes. But still - this doesn't seem to complete the gap.
This was a question that a lot of people were concerned with, until Maxwell, Lorentz, and Einstein came along and changed our understanding of electricity, magnetism, and motion.
To figure this out, we won't actually need special relativity, because we can just imagine scenarios in a low-speed limit. But we still require relativity of a more classical variety.
So how does it work?
Consider a wire with a current running through the wire. Electrons are moving through the wire, causing the flow of current.
Now, because of Ampere's law, we know the wire produces a circular magnetic field around it.
Given what we currently know, the act of having a current - an electricity thing, producing a magnetic field, is really odd. But what if we were to introduce some velocity into the equation?
Say we now place an electric charge next to the wire, and it's stationary. Ignoring gravity for a moment, nothing happens. Why? Well because of the lorentz force F = qE + qvB there's nothing to move it. But now let's move this charged object at some speed along the wire, and let's say it's moving at exactly the same speed as the electrons in the wire. Now we have force! The charge begins to move perpendicular to the field and the charge starts flying towards the wire.
But this is a kinda boring explanation from the perspective of someone standing still, looking at the wire and seeing this happen. What if we were to look at things from the perspective of the charged object?
Well, given the rules of relativity, in the charge's perspective, the electrons are actually stationary, so from here - there IS no magnetic field!
So what happens now? Well because we have a straight line of electrons, and these electrons are still, we now have radially pointing electric field emanating from the wire. Because of this electric field - the charge will begin to move towards the wire, coincidentally at the same rate as what we see the observer.
Now look at what we have here. From the perspective of the stationary wire, a magnetic field is produced. From the perspective of the charge, we have an electric field.
The fact of the matter is that the electric and magnetic fields are the same thing - just from different perspectives. A pure magnetic field is just an electric field viewed from a different velocity, and what you may see as an electric field is just a magnetic field but because we're moving relative to it, it now affects us.
How Special Relativity Comes into this
We can represent this effect using another equation:
E' = γ (E+vB)
Where γ is the lorentz factor. This is where the lorentz invariance - special relativity comes into this. This is a direct solution of Maxwell's Equations.
Let's simplify this by removing the γ in a low-velocity limit, and also multiply both sides by an electric charge term q:
qE' = qE + qvB
E' is the electric field in a frame moving at a particular velocity, whereas E and B are the electric and magnetic fields in a different frame of reference.
Notice how both expressions represent the force applied to a charge. This is a representation of the relativistic interpretation of electric and magnetic fields.
Tumblr media
This image from Wikipedia, it shows the effect I've been talking about but visually. In the top section we have a man standing stationary to an electric charge, which emanates an electric field. From the perspective of the moving woman, the charge produces both a magnetic and electric field.
On the bottom we see the opposite. A stationary man sees a moving charge as having both an electric and magnetic field. But when we move at the same velocity as the charge, the magnetic field disappears and it appears entirely as an electric field.
Conclusion
In conclusion, why electricity and magnetism can be unified is because they are quite literally the same field, but from a different perspective.
Technically speaking, magnetic fields don't exist, they're just electric fields moving at a particular speed. We could also say the exact same about electric fields.
This revelation is what allowed Einstein to simplify Maxwell's equation into just one - using the power of tensors. Because really, the two forces are one in the same!
I very much hope you enjoyed reading this post. I'm going to be doing this every Friday. It's a bit rusty - and you probably had a hard time reading it. Feedback (both positive and negative) is appreciated!

MY THOUGHTS REGARDING THE NEW DOC
Alrighty, just came back to tumblr after reading the new docs and am gonna detail me thoughts a little here. Might be a bit long so I apologize in advance.
In regard to just the new doc made by Alex, it does confirm a lot of my suspicions regarding Ven, DB, and Alex themself that I haven’t really mentioned anywhere aside from the DMs of a few close friends, the main ones being:
* Alex’s general reasoning over the course of this situation
* How generally uncommunicative (most, if not) everyone related to this situation was
As for actual substance, I wish that Alex had provided more screenshots or at the very least gotten the same screenshots presented in Ven’s argument to, at the very least, supplement his own (ex: how uncommunicative DB was being despite allegedly being uncomfortable with the speed at which the relationship was proceeding).
At this point, it’s just testimony against Ven’s and DB’s testimony AND evidence. While I understand where Alex is coming from that does little to defend against evidence in bulk.
What primarily frustrates me is the lack of mention of anyone else aside from DB, Ven, and, very briefly, the 16 as well as the 14 year old. My assumption is just that Alex wanted to contest the claims made in the original doc, but then wouldn’t have been better if he’d just waited and covered all of his bases?
Hopefully, Alex will get around to addressing those — otherwise I’m just stuck with the bad taste in my mouth.
At the moment, I don’t know my exact stance on the situation, however, what I do know is that l all sides should take a break from the internet after this is over as this clearly has negatively impacted all parties’ health.
I don’t 100% trust Alex, but I feel that Ven’s word should be taken with a grain of salt as they’ve previously professed their desire to releasing evidence in order to bring down Alex’s credibility as a public figure.
As for the other victims (e.g: mitcha, donut, etc.) I’m choosing to continue to follow them and sympathize with their struggles.
For closing stuff,
(You can skip if you don’t want to hear me talk about: kinks and sexual intimacy. I’m not gonna go in graphic detail but I just wanted to discuss for a moment)
I honestly just feel like some of the stuff regarding kinks and shit should’ve just stayed in the drafts as I don’t believe there is any solid evidence that Alex was “forcing” their kinks onto others outside of leaps in logic already applied to other arguments (ex: Alex was manipulating DB from the start based on later convos depicting a relationship where both parties are/appear to be reciprocating).
Sex is a valid means of expressing affection, I know people in my life who require that level of intimacy to truly express their feelings — this is in no way implying that sex is the only way to be in a relationship, just that people need different things. It just feels kinda scummy that demonstrations of sexual attraction between two adults was portrayed so negatively despite both parties matching each other (ex: “I’ll make the next one extra special for you” text).
That’s not all the stuff that I have gripes with from Ven’s original doc, but I don’t feel like being here all day so I’m gonna end it here.
Thank you for reading.

Oh god, please don't do this.
Update your phone.
Maybe an argument can be made to wait a week or two just in case there are bugs in the new update, but updates are crucial to your phone's security. Updating apps is also part of that security. Unless it is an app that has no internet requirement, you need to keep them current. And if an app is no longer being supported or updated, you should probably move on to the next best thing. Even if that sucks sometimes.
And I hate to defend Apple all the time, but you cannot make current judgments based on the freakin' iPhone 4. Apple currently makes some of the longest lasting products on the market. Not only that, they support those products with software updates for pretty much their entire lifespan. Google and Samsung were being praised this year for promising 5 and 7 years of updates. Apple has been doing this for years now. They never put a number on it, but if a phone can run the software, they support it.
In fact, the big story about Apple slowing down phones is always presented as them wanting people to buy new phones, but in that case they were actually trying to extend the life of people's devices. If they hadn't throttled the CPU, the battery would have bricked a bunch of phones. Their error was not disclosing what they were doing. They got sued for that and rightly so. All people needed was a battery swap and they'd be back to full speed. It's ridiculous that Apple didn't just disclose that from the beginning.
Also, the days of phones getting too old to run new software are pretty much over. Moore's Law is slowing down and phones are incredibly powerful and anything within the last 5 years or so will probably last 7 to 10 years if you take care of it. Depending on your use, you might need a battery swap, but you should only need to replace your phone sooner if there are features you absolutely need in the new model.
Apple's big sin is not planned obsolescence but repairability. Their products are well made. They last a long time. And they tend to have fewer manufacturing defects than other brands. (In general. Your anecdotal experiences will vary.)
But... shit happens.
People drop things. They spill things. They abuse things. And when they break, you shouldn't have to get a whole new thing. Apple seems to have poorly trained diagnostic staff who commonly tell people their device cannot be repaired when the diagnosis is not apparent. Or they will misdiagnose something with a super expensive repair when it is actually a minor fix. (Which is why experienced repair shops exist and should be supported by Apple.) Apple has tried to micro-manage the repair process of their devices to such a degree that it has sparked an entire advocacy movement.
But don't let Google, Samsung, etc off the hook either. They suck too. If you are using Android thinking you have some moral high ground, they either do the same shit or they do slightly different shit that is just as bad.
Not to mention, Google is an advertising company. I don't understand people who are like, "Apple is evil, so I'm going to use this advertising platform instead." It's a lateral move, at best.
No good guys in capitalism, folks.
At minimum, repair shops should be able to use spare parts from broken devices to fix salvageable ones. And Apple is literally pairing screens and chips to one device so they can't be used to fix others. It's... diabolical.
So, update your phones.
Apple is bad at repairability but is good as far as planned obsolescence goes. Although when computers and phones eventually are able to last for 20 years, we'll see if that changes. For now, they make things that last until you fumble them into the toilet bowl and *that* is when they start to suck.
If you need a good villain to talk about planned obsolescence, I would go with Samsung appliances.

Pal, why does your map show Eastern Europe as periphery and not semi periphery?
I am Ukrainian, and life here is way better than in SWANA, or Africa, or some Latin American and Asian countries. I know for a fact that in the rest of Eastern Europe it's even better.
There was a long list of other reasons, but like, Eastern Europe does have economic advantage over the rest of the world and benefits from the Western expansion otherwise
well first of all its not my map, second i have mentioned in the post that it is outdated (its from 2000). however, all that aside, the map doesnt talk about quality of life or development index. these are two different things. (and i have problems with development index too; it is biased and it really just means 'adjacent to the western influence').
imperial core and peripheries are based on global market and power influence. periphery countries depend on the imperial core and are often forms of neo-colonies.
life is better in croatia, of course; i have high speed internet, i have access to tampons, i can go out and buy a phone. however croatia is still a periphery and not imperial country - because it fully depends on the decisions of the imperial core and cannot set its own agenda or dictate its own flow of commerce. the prices in croatia are higher than in the western europe, the west store chains dominate the market, the country is dependent on the decisions made by the imperial nations, and it has no independent market or its own influence and power. regarding prices its adapted to the west, but regarding salaries it is not, and it is kept in a chokehold dictated by the foreign superpowers.
even croatian newspapers, portals, networks, stores, etc are often owned by foreign capital. the emmigration from croatia to germany, ireland, and other EU countries is incredibly high, with it being one of the major problems in our economy; especially in medical care. a lot of people emmigrate to replace shortage of low-skill-labour (hate that phrasing) in the west.
this is what makes it a periphery (whether its semi-periphery is a different question and should be conducted by someone far more expertised than me).

So, I’ve watched Episode 3. Brain dump time. No spoilers but as always my Ask/DMs etc are open if you want to discuss.
Needless to say, my focus will be on Remy and Rogue so brace yourselves.
That intro music will never not be a banger and I know it’s all over the Romy internet but that moment, THAT MOMENT, is my everything. I love them.
Disappointed in the speed at which they went through this particular storyline but will see how it pans out across the series.
I thought Scott’s behaviour was interesting because I can promise you, the moment your child is born is the moment nothing becomes more important to you than them. This didn’t come to the fore until the end of the episode and even then I…I’m not quite sure of how to explain it. Scott made it all about him? The whole thing felt off.
Mr. Sinister is always an fascinating villain to me because of his links to Remy.
I continue to dislike Morph and his personality. The jokes continue to be personal and cruel, which simply do not sit well with me. I’ll also confess that I haven’t read the Exiles comic so I can’t be certain but it’s weird that he seems to gain a power set when he transforms into someone, unlike Mystique. I wonder if this version of Morph has some elements of Mimic in him, or even Sync.
And hello Remy’s other worst enemies; self doubt and insecurity. Maybe I identify with him on more levels than I realise but the more I see of Rogueneto the more it hurts. I just have to trust in home and harbour and that Romy will still be the endgame.
“Gambit can never unsee dat.”
Interesting to see some of the other internal battles people were facing but none resonated quite like Remy’s.
Scott charging up Bishop was weird. The blast were (rightly) concussive force last week but they’re energy now? Sure, Sebastian Shaw I can see using Scott’s blasts to charge but Bishop seemed odd to me.
Jean Grey is not the mutant messiah.
God I’m being really negative so far! I don’t mean to be. I enjoyed this episode!
Positive time then. Loved seeing Rogue’s first thought be for Remy when she returned. And then seeing his whole body language and face light up was perfect.
Essex’s lair? Nothing says mad, immortal British scientist than a converted gothic Cathedral full of bubbling green vats. Superb.
I thought Logan was really good in this too. From him telling Morph to knock it off when teasing Gambit to being there for Jean as well. I hope we get to see him tear it up with Sabretooth at some point as well as showing his natural caring instincts.
Loved the Cathedral fight, thought it was great.
Lastly, 80’s Mohawk Storm is the best Storm.

It sure was a Choice by Miles to include a cognihazard designed to obliterate the brains of anyone slightly critical of the show in episode 4. I'm just so curious whether he genuinely thought it would be funny or it was some weird malicious bent. I assume former given how the cat was otherwise treated, though none of the comedy worked for me.
I think it was meant to function both as comedy and an argument. We already have a ton of humor in Volume 9 that in no way breaks the 4th wall by acknowledging critics' (supposed) complaints, but even beyond that you don't just stumble into the "joke" of addressing the disappointed members of a fanbase... and you don't include that "joke" unless you intend to disagree with them.
So yeah, I think Miles assumed it would be funny with the humor stemming from the expected response of, "Oh my god that's ridiculous. Who's upset about that??"
The actual answer "No one." If we read the scene as a kind of argument from the writers, it's a strawman's argument: exaggerated and simplified to make it easier to refute. Notably, everything the Cat mentions are things that critics aren't concerned with. Or, to be more careful with my words because it's a big Internet and I'm sure someone, somewhere has brought these issues up, these examples are by no means representative of critics' primary concerns. We don't care that Ozpin is sharing a body with Oscar (that lives in the realm of other suspension of disbelief questions like, "When are the characters going to the bathroom?"), but rather that they're at the center of the cosmic narrative instead of the girls, the merge still isn't explained, Oscar's development has mostly happened off screen, etc. No one cares that Remnant had a floating city - to my mind that's a good idea to avoid the majority of the grimm - but rather that it was used as the symbol for a shoddily written classism arc and then plowed into the city below with our heroes now barely acknowledging that. Few fans care about Ciel specifically (beyond those individuals who understandably thought she might show up in the Atlas arc), they care about what she represents: a bloated cast where, as the Cat themselves say, characters rarely come back in a notable way.
The point of this scene is to make up/simplify/distort criticism until you have a list of ridiculous complaints and then go, "See how ridiculous they are? People upset with the show are so funny." Note that one of the REAL concerns acknowledged in the episode - the question of whether our protagonists are good huntresses - is immediately answered with a firm, unambiguous "Yes." Blake, Yang, and Weiss all speed-run a self-reflection arc in a matter of literal seconds, going, "You're questioning whether we're the heroes? Of course we are! I know exactly who I am, I have no doubts, and you are wrong to question our role as huntresses." The exception to this is Ruby who starts to take the question seriously... only for the Cat to interrupt, "saving" her, and painting the Caterpillar as the bad guy in the process.
Seriously, the ending of that scene frames someone making the girls reflect on their actions for once as an attack that needs to be stopped and that right there highlights the "protagonist centered morality" problem of Volume 6 onward.
Now, some otherwise well-written shows can get away with a scene like the Cat's and it comes across as the writers being playfully self-reproachful. "Yeah, we know we messed that up. Our bad. Let's laugh about it together and move on, yeah?" and the audience agrees because no story is perfect and you've done a good job on the whole. RWBY doesn't have that leeway though and, given the rest of the episode scoffing at one of the biggest concerns of Volume 8, the implication is not that the writers are humbly aware of their own inevitable mistakes, but that they just thoroughly disagree that they've made them. Anything they have kinda messed up - Ozpin-Oscar body, floating Altas, Ciel - is so minor and silly as to hardly be worth mentioning outside of a joke.
