I love how ML-universe Veronique managed to crank out five entire, perfectly accurate wax figures of the last new heroes in what? Only a few weeks? Yet the team hasn’t released official renders for them in the last seven months

Ideas for Full Project Voltage Teams
Tumblr media
I have put them in order from most canon content (from concept art) to just vibes on my end. All of it will be under the cut with trainer cards from this website.
Tumblr media
Miku has a bunch of Art with Pikachu (because of course), and a song with Pikachu. The rest of this team comes from concept art... I also have no idea why Mr. Rime is here...
Tumblr media
The first four pokemon all appear in the official and concept art. The other two pokemon I just picked are based on the vibes of this goopy poison tech lady.
Tumblr media
The first five Pokemon are from official and concept art and the Peliper I picked as it was in the Inubakumori video.
Tumblr media
The first three were in concept art and seemed useful for a desert traveling lady. The fossil she is holding in concept art looked the most like the claw fossil to me but it's a bit of a stretch. The last two are just vibes.
Tumblr media
In concept art fighting Miku has a full leek bird squad. Hitmontop I picked for it's break dancing vibes and the other two were just cool and green.
Tumblr media
Steel Miku is my personal favorite. Beldum was what I thought she would have honestly... this pokemon is a bell (which is musical) and it matches her hat. I gave her Hisuian!Goodra because she is very ancient Japan coded. That's also why I gave her Kingambit and Mawile, for their similar aesthetics. I considered Kartana or either form of Aamurott for her as well but I was hesitant to give "special" pokemon to Miku outside of the ones she has in the official art. I went with Togedemaru because of the type and it's appearance in the Inabakumori video.
Tumblr media
Primarina is canon and she is with a wishiwashi in the concept art. I chose other pokemon that felt related to diving or healing since she was shown with heal balls and potions in her design. Lanturn also featured in the Inabakumori video.
Tumblr media
I gave Miku all the dragon type pokemon we assume she'd have, a mega because fuck it I like megas (and Ampharos is in the Inabakumori video) and just some other little guys that fit the racer vibe she gives me. I know she's more like a knight with the sword but she also has the motorcycle pokemon.
Tumblr media
Misdrevious was in the art. Mimikyu was in the Inabakumori video. Litwick was in the concept art, Galarian!Yamask is the closest match to her spell tag sleeves, Porygon-Z isn't a ghost type but glitchy like her and finally the Oricorio is just here for vibes.
Tumblr media
This one I struggled with. It's purely vibes. I guess I could have given her a bruxish since she has a sticker of it but I was trying to avoid giving my Miku's pokemon that were referenced full sale in their outfits (You'll see this with Fairy Miku)
Tumblr media
Her clothing gave me some desert vibes so I picked pokemon that matched that at first. Houndoom is more just a cool pokemon to fit her rocker vibe and Raboot is basically wearing the same coat as her so I made the starter exception here.
Tumblr media
Speak of exceptions I wanted to avoid using the same specious of Pokemon but I struggled with Normal and Porygon 2 just... fits the vibe so well. Same logic for the others they are either music based of fit the vibe.
Tumblr media
She is spikey but also kind of techy? Yes the ice cream is a Kaito reference suck my dick-
Tumblr media
I will die on the hill that she should have given Miku Diance but whatever... Roggenrola is here cause it kind of looks like a speaker. The rest are just vibes.
Tumblr media
Just silly, cutesy little guys. I made the evolution line exception here as well because Kirlia literally has Miku hair! I had to include her!
Tumblr media
Bug is my favorite type but NOTHING fit the vibe. If you can't tell I went with Monsoon Vivilion cause the blue best matched her dress and it can be found in Japan. Vikavolt fit the electric theme she had going for her and made more sense than Galvantula or Joltik. The other three are honestly random picks that kind of made sense. Maybe you can say having a pokemon pair is a RinLen reference idk
Tumblr media
This is another vibe-based one. Most of these were pulled based on vibes 100%. All of the pokemon have similar colors or design motifs to the dark type Miku. Meowscarda is the exception because I really did run out of dark types that fit the vibe but I wanted a full team of 6 for each Miku.
Tumblr media
This is the last one. It's cheer/dance-based. I almost gave her Bellosom. but I wanted to incorporate the Plusle and Miniun from the Inakumori video and they fit the cheer theme best. Maractus fits the spikiness and dancing she has going on, Whimsicot also seems cheery and fluffy like a pom pom. Steene has the green pigtails again just like Miku.
If you see this let me know what you think :)

OC/Writing Art Asks for one of those android characters you have! They sound neat :)
pencil, Copics, charcoal, eraser, and palette
Thank you so much for this! I never don't want to talk about my androids. I haven't talked about Imjen much though, so I'll answer for zir.
Pencil: does this character have any "sketchy" habits? Have they ever broken the law? Do they regret it? Imjen has broken the law multiple times in zir attempts to figure out what happened to Syndy before she reappears in TFA. As practice, zi hacked into all of the math department netsites at the University of the Second Akkanswl where Mizzat works, then tried to get into Syndy's builder's website. Zi did not succeed, but when the lockout period is 24 hours and you have all night, every night, just try again.
Copics: what is this character's most expensive habit or hobby? Do they ever feel guilty about the money they spend on it? Zi actually lives in zir own little house in the city, which zi has been indecisively redecorating for a while. It wasn't meant to be a hobby or a habit, but it kind of turned into one. At the start of TFA, zi actually gets a brand new sofa. And zi would feel guilty if there was anything else zi had to spend that money on, but so far there's not (not needing to eat, drink, or sleep helps a lot), and it's so easy to justify it anyway by saying it's preparation for a future first android party.
Charcoal: share any unique physical features about this character that are not scars or tattoos. For the most part, Imjen looks exactly like a swl, the bipedal dragonlike species that built zir. But the brown stripe pattern on zir sides actually hides a number of single-battery racks (in this case batteries are discs about the size of a CD but half an inch thick, which zir internal mycelium wiring feeds off of).
Eraser: what's one way this character has changed over time? Either over the course of their story, or over the course of designing them as an author. Imjen came to be in the earliest drafts of TFA, so zi hasn't been massively revamped from an old concept like Syndy and Dez have. But over the course of TFA & sequels zi has to come to terms with officially cutting ties with the university that built zir and the hospital zi has worked at since activation, for the last 8+ years. Zi's not trying to burn bridges but zi also hasn't been willing to take that final step into the unknown. (I think it overlaps with Dez taking a step into the unknown as an astronaut?)
Palette: list four of your character's primary skills, then share at least two ways these skills might blend or overlap
Hacking. Failure to find Syndy notwithstanding, zi is actually pretty good at getting into things.
Hypothesizing. Imjen is the leading source of theories about android life.
Blending in with nswl. It takes more than just looks - zi is an expert on how to get people to not notice the things zi can/'t do as an android.
Knowing where all the weird dives in town are. Not because zi has fantasy google maps in zir head, but because zi's actually been there.
3 and 4 are inherently linked because it's easier to hang out in weird dives if you blend in with everyone else. But 1 and 2 are linked in a sort of philosophical way? Like, hacking someone's website isn't some kind of portal to the self for an android, but it does open up a lot of questions about how zi is different from other computers and why. 2 and 4 are also very much an "I'm bored and I never sleep" kind of a thing lol.

It’s that time of year again, time to look over the last twelve months of creative productivity! This was my busiest year for freelance animation EVER, with six projects all pretty much one after the other, some of which lasted several months! For the first time in over ten years animation actually felt like my main job! Read on for full details on each month (with links to things in bold)!
January:
I kickstarted the year with an attempt to keep myself busy (haha) by coming up with weekly personal illustrations to work on while livestreaming. This included a couple based on childhood toys, followed by fan art of games I was playing at the time.
I also started my first freelance gig of the year about visiting a recycling center for Love Essex, which was finished and released in early Feb.
February:
I continued the weekly art streams (though I did skip one week while I was wrapping up the animation work) that included more Balan Wonderworld fan art and another nostalgia trip based around old TV game show Fun House which was seen and approved by Pat Sharp himself!
I also made some Valentine’s day silliness for CherryT and with her help also created this ridiculous Art Data-Blast video featuring all of my art over the years with a 90′s TV inspired intro.
Tumblr media
March:
A big turning point for my livestreams arrived here when I decided to create a PNGTuber using Veadotube Mini! I livestreamed the majority of my experimentation and process and the cutdown videos about it became some of my biggest hits on YouTube yet! Going forward I would now use this animated avatar instead of a webcam, though this would actually end up being the last month of the year that I’d have any time to livestream because...
April:
..April would be the start of one of the biggest projects: six one-minute animated shorts for the Scottish Illegal Money Lending Unit about the dangers of loan sharks. This month was spent mostly storyboarding most of the films and completing the first one.
At the same time concepts were being developed for another six-minute piece of animation that I would need to juggle alongside the above project over the coming months!
I should also mention here life-wise I changed my daily job from working in a cinema to...working in a smaller, closer to home cinema!
May:
This month was mostly spent storyboarding for the second big project and waiting around for approval while the Loan Shark project was put on hold, so while I had a bit of spare time I gave my website a new lick of paint (including some new art of old characters) and made several illustrations including my favorite Eurovision 2022 act (now my most popular Tumblr post ever for some reason!), joining in on the Catoon Network CMYK art fad, and fan art of a fellow PNGTuber. I was also commissioned by Jadypie to create some cute animal Twitch emotes!
June:
After two pieces of quick art including another obscure game character and another excuse to draw Amy Rose, me and CherryT took a couple days away to visit the theme park Alton Towers, which I made a travel vlog about!
The 2nd film for the Stop Loan Sharks series was completed this month and this was when the 2nd big project was given the official go ahead! The six-and a half minute long film has yet to be released and might end up staying in the private sector but it was a pre-birth social work training video for Essex County Council  with a similar subject matter and art style to the Annabelle’s Journey film I made last year. Clips of it can be seen in my latest showreel.
I also drew these guys for some reason.
July:
This month was almost exclusively knuckling down to get the un-released film fully animated. Much like the Annabelle film this was a massive amount of hand-drawn animation squeezed into just over one month! I also made time to do this commission for PCWzrd.
August:
With that long, time-consuming project out of the way it was time to jump back into the Loan Shark films. Two were completed in April and June but I still had four to go, so this month and most of September was day-to-day animating again!
September:
I was getting these Loan Shark films done at a rate of roughly 10 days per film, though the last one took a little longer as it was yet to be storyboarded until now. This project was finally complete midway through the month and released near the end!
Somewhere in the middle of all this I managed to fit in some livestreams of the Sonic Fan Games Expo and some reactions to some gaming events.
In the last week of the month I worked on a pretty exciting commission that I need to stay tight-lipped about for now!
Tumblr media
October:
This month was started by wrapping up the above commission and jumping into another, thankfully much shorter 1 minute animation for the English Stop Loan Sharks company that has also not yet seen the light of day, but you can see a short clip of it in my latest showreel. As soon as that was done another big project approached!
November:
This freelance gig started at the end of October and lasted all through November and up until the middle of December! This one has released in January 2023, a short film called What a Waste!
There was a break at the end of November when me and CherryT went to Birmingham for a few days to finally go to a concert we booked back in early 2020 that kept getting delayed!
Mid-month I also quickly doodled up my OC a couple times.
Tumblr media
Above: the moment I finished an 8-week long non-stop project on a to do list!
December:
What a Waste ended up taking longer than I anticipated at around seven or eight weeks total, most likely because it’s quite unlike anything I have done before. After what felt like roughly nine months of almost non-stop animating the last half-month of the year was spent last-minute Christmas shopping and finally chilling out a bit, including going to a local video games expo for the weekend! The last piece of art I did this year was for the Newgrounds Secret Santa.
That was an intense year! I can’t wait till you get to see the stuff that’s not out there yet and in terms of 2023 I do already have a couple things queued up for January so we’ll see how it goes I guess!

‘Birds Aren’t Real’ Is the Conspiracy Theory Mocking QAnon In an age where outlandish theories command national attention, members of Generation Z have turned disinformation into performance art. Kelly Weill
Some people believe Earth is flat. Some people believe the Trump administration is using a seedy internet forum to send coded messages about Satanic pedophile rings. Now a movement of young memers is parodying more established conspiracy movements with an outlandish claim of its own.
The U.S. government eradicated all birds in 2001 and replaced them with surveillance drones, the Birds Aren’t Real movement alleges. The movement (which conveniently sells merchandise) is thriving off young people’s sense of the absurd in the Trump era, the movement’s founder said.
It’s disinformation as performance art. And it’s only half as ridiculous as some earnest conspiracy theories.
Peter McIndoe, 20, says he’s completely serious in his belief that birds are actually inorganic machines designed to surveil and police Americans. The movement, which he started last year, has spiked in recent weeks, after it caught the notice of popular YouTubers and meme accounts. “The higher ups were so annoyed that birds had been dropping fecal matter on their car windows that they vowed to wipe out every single flying feathered creature in North America,” and replaced them with robots from 1959 to 2001, the group claims on its website.
But in interviews with The Daily Beast, McIndoe and four regional Birds Aren’t Real leaders all took jabs at other conspiracy movements, with some regional chapters outright admitting that the whole thing was satire.
“I do get asked a lot ‘is this satirical? Is it a joke?’” McIndoe told The Daily Beast. “Frankly I think the concept of it being some sort of socio-political satire, or the thought of it being an observation on the post-truth era through comedy, I think that’s kind of absurd. I think our values and our views should be valued just as equally as any others. And I think just because we’re saying ‘birds aren’t real,’ that should be true with the same respect as when people say birds are real.”
Earlier in the movement’s history, McIndoe was more upfront about its satirical nature.
“i made a satirical movement a few months ago, and people on instagram seem to like it a lot,” he posted on Facebook in November 2017. “now there's a facebook so the moms of the current ‘bird truthers’ can be in on it too.”
Now, a year into the movement, he distanced himself. “That was actually by a staff member who has since been removed,” he said of that old Facebook post.
Birds are real. This is demonstrably true, and has been since before the dawn of humanity. The Audubon Society, a non-profit for bird conservation, documented the meme earlier this month, and declared it to be a joke.
“Wow—we sure hope so,” an Audubon Society spokesperson told The Daily Beast when asked whether birds are real.
But the joke, and an online shop that monetizes it, surged in popularity in late October. That’s when YouTuber PieDiePie featured the meme in a semi-credulous video that racked up more than 4 million views. A number of the movement’s most vocal backers got involved around the same time.
Unlike QAnon, which draws a large middle-aged fan base, Birds Aren’t Real is popular with Generation Z.
The “Birds Aren’t Real Ohio” Instagram account is run by a college student who bought the movement’s merchandise then realized the fake movement had no Ohio chapter. Last month “I [direct messaged] the ‘official’ Birds Aren’t Real Twitter account and asked if I could run the Ohio chapter and they said yes,” the student told The Daily Beast via Instagram message.
“For me personally, the Birds Aren’t Real movement is more of a satirical approach to counteracting such far-fetched conspiracies (such as flat earthers),” Birds Aren’t Real Ohio said. “When making my posts, I try to make them humorous but still serious enough to make people think. This is a fun challenge for me, and I hope at least mildly entertaining for those that follow my account!”
An Instagram account for “Birds Aren’t Real NY” said the operation was a parody of “other conspiracy theories since the idea that birds aren’t real is just as outlandish as the earth being flat.” The satire had flourished on Instagram, where anti-bird jokes can be grafted onto “trending memes since they usually all have the same setups.”
Austin, Texas’s “Birds Aren’t Real” Instagram account insisted they sincerely believed in the movement. But even this chapter said some of their work was in satirizing other conspiracy movements.
“While we like to poke fun at other conspiracies, the majority of what I make” is serious, the group claimed. (They conceded that some Austin-based bird truthers believed chickens are real.)
McIndoe, who denied that the movement was satirical, acknowledged that it would be a good satire of recent conspiracy theories like QAnon. That theory, which falsely claims President Donald Trump’s opponents are Satanic pedophiles, has seen true believers descend ever deeper into a social media-fueled falsehood. Rather than abandon the theory when its predictions ring false, adherents have entrenched themselves further in Facebook groups and forums full of other believers.
If it were satirical, those are probably movements I’d be making a satire of,” McIndoe said of his conspiracy movement. “But being that it’s not, I would say those people, I think, are very grounded in their beliefs. Because they’re in a community or in an echo chamber with people confirming their beliefs and telling them what they think is true, I think it’s grown to the point where it’s impossible for them to see it any other way. Because really we’re living in a time when we can craft our community. My Twitter feed is only the way it is because of who I follow.”
The person behind the Instagram account “Birds Aren’t Real Charleston” identified as a 19-year-old College of Charleston student, who said the movement was something of a joke between friends at the school. Together, they distributed anti-bird literature at a public market, where “one lady said I was ‘scaring the kids with the flyers,’” the student said.
McIndoe speculated that his movement might resonate with young people’s feeling of instability in the Trump era.
“I think they can relate to that feeling because so much of what we see in the daily news cycle is so absurd. I see so much in the news these days that’s a headline I never would have believed five years ago. I think because it fits into the absurdity of the everyday news, it makes Birds Aren’t Real special because our movement special.”
Meme historians have previously linked political chaos to a rise in absurdist memes. A Washington Post column on the topic became a meme, itself, with digital content-makers photoshopping the article into oblivion.
A number of regional Birds Aren’t Real pages link to McIndoe’s website, where he sells stickers and apparel. The movement’s New York chapter said it didn’t really mind that it was helping McIndoe push merchandise, since “I just like the punchline of the joke so I don’t spend much time thinking about that.”
It’s not the first conspiracy to hawk merchandise. QAnon believers can lose their money on a range of QAnon jewelry, clothing, and car decals. The conspiracy news outlet Infowars does a brisk business selling supplements that will supposedly save buyers from a variety of government control programs.
McIndoe guards his movement’s merchandise carefully. When the internet culture database Know Your Meme added an entry about Birds Aren’t Real last month, McIndoe left a comment about a Birds Aren’t Real T-shirt pictured in the article.
“The wrong shirt is on here- that’s a rip-off,” he wrote, adding that “the real shirts are on” his website.
Like QAnon and Chemtrails before it, the fake conspiracy had attracted real grifters, out to make money regardless of whether they believed.

Hi! Have there been any updates on Dragon Age 4 since they released those pics awhile ago?
Hello! Good question, thank you. Here’s the catch-up - (:D)
Tumblr media
-----
On Dragon Age Day 2020 the official Dragon Age website updated with 4 new art pieces and 4 new short stories, which are linked to Tevinter Nights. This post has a summary and lots of speculation of mine from the news around that time (but it doesn’t include more recent news).
The EA Chief Studios Officer wrote this post on the BioWare Blog, on BioWare’s future and staff changes. This was Casey Hudson’s statement on him leaving and here’s Mark Darrah’s. Christian Dailey came on board as the new Executive Producer of DA, having left Anthem (here’s his post). DGaider discussed the staff changes a bit in a stream.
A “Dread Wolf Rises” lithograph came out. There was an official site update. There were these dev interviews with lil snippets (three). Mark said this about quantum characters. The devs tweeted some new concept art pieces: one, two, three, four. Of course, this trailer dropped at the Game Awards, and this was the accompanying site update (full version of the mural, two), the accompanying tweet and the accompanying blog post.
There was this article in the Edmonton Journal about BioWare’s future. There were some snippets in a dev stream. The franchise got a new logo (two) and this was Christian Dailey’s new Twitter icon and banner for a while. This came out of an EA conference call. There was this snippet and these, and this mysterious tweet from Matthew.
News dropped that BioWare cancelled Anthem to focus on DA4 and move devs to that. Jason Schrier tweeted this and wrote this article on the reported multiplayer pivot. They might be streamlining inventory management? This tease about Qunari Lady caught my eye. Mark Darrah made this vid. The comic writers mentioned DA4 a bit in this interview. The Chief Producer gave this talk on what it’s been like working on DA4 during the pandemic (two), John Epler was on this podcast giving an interview on his job and work, there was this other earning call, and there were some snippets at Edmonton Direct and Gamers For Groceries 2. Also they are currently hiring lots of staff for DA4 and other projects.
If you haven’t already, I recommend to check out the most recent comic series Dark Fortress, as there is a bit of setup. (This post is a guide to the post-Inquisition secondary material, which you might find useful if you’re unfamiliar with it.)
And now at the moment all eyes are on EA Play Live in July. Nothing confirmed or hinted, but we hope. Keep an eye on this calendar, I regularly update it
(here is my Dragon Age 4 tag in case this is useful to you! it’s a catch-all tag so is not just news, it also has stuff like fanart and speculation, but that’s where you can find it. i like to collect and collate all the scraps i find hh)
Hope this helps and sry about the scrappy/stream-of-consciousness aspect of this post. :)

Salutations! My name is Tema, and I am bringing back the TemTam Fam Jam this year with new themes and surprises!
This jam will take place from June 1st - August 1st. The theme will be…
CANON AUS!
Himaruya has made many aus of his own in the many years of the comic, but more often than not most people don’t know of them! So I thought that would be a perfect opportunity to turn these designs and concepts into fun games to spread awareness of the cool AU’s that exist in Canon too!
The application will start two weeks early, on May 15th and accepted applicants will be able to build teams before or after they’ve entered the server. You will be able to find a team once in the jam chat, and the team and theme will have to be finalized but June 15th.
All prep involving the game can be worked on from June 1st onward (art, assets, team organization, picking your theme etc.). The official coding will begin on July 1st, this is when people will be able to start coding. You are not allowed to open your coding software until July 1st.
Overall Guidelines and Rules:
The team size limit is four.
The game must be compatible to use for Windows players, and made in a game software like RPGMaker, Renpy etc.
You may not start coding until July 1st.
You may test scripts in a sandbox separate from the project itself or testing map designs, but you cannot make nor edit the official game files until July 1st.
When submitting the game, please upload it to google drive and share the link to the judges for download. (Mediafire and other websites are not allowed, but are allowed for later distribution.)
The game length must be at least fifteen minutes with cutscenes excluded.
Credits for all assets must be properly given either in a text document in the files or at the beginning or end of the game. Improper credits are grounds for disqualification.
Proper warnings for content (epileptic warnings/gore warnings/overt political themes) must be placed at the beginning of the game. Lack of these warnings are grounds for disqualification.
Try to keep the game Rated T or lower.
Titles rated T (Teen) have content that may be suitable for ages 13 and older. Titles in this category may contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood, simulated gambling, and/or infrequent use of strong language.
If your game is romantic or has romantic elements; ships must be between two consenting adults in a non-abusive, non-incestual relationship. Ask the judges if you’re unsure if your ship falls into this category.
No shipping of characters directly stated in canon to be siblings or ships in which one nation raised the other from childhood. (Ex. Veneziano and Romano, Norway and Iceland, America and England or Germany and Prussia.)
No Ped*phillia or L*li/Sh*tac*n ships.
No Teacher-Student Relationships
Topics like Rape, Racism and Antisemitism should be avoided.
Please handle other people’s jam games with discretion and do not share information about them/their games without their permission.
Streaming your development process is ALLOWED. Posting WIP images or videos in the Jam server or in other servers are also allowed.
In streaming your process you are accepting the fact that it will remove the surprise your game has post-jam, and accept that the judges might be spoiled about your game.
In opening this opportunity the judges will be as blind as they can be about the game process itself, and will stay neutral in their judgement whether they are spoiled about the game or not. A good game should hold even if it is spoiled.
There will be a Jam Favorite that will be voted on by all teams, this is the only award that could in any way be affected by knowing the game ahead of time. However it will have nothing to do with outside sources and will be between the participants of the jam only.
Theme Guidelines:
If any of these rules are unclear, or you’re not sure if your idea fits. Please contact one of the judges and we’re more than happy to clarify for you.
The only AU theme’s allowed are one’s designed by Himaruya.
Cardverse and 2p Hetalia are not allowed as themes, because they vary so much from person to person, they could be their own jams.
Any kind of nations are welcome as characters; be it 1ps, 2ps, Nyos, or 2p Nyo characters. OC’s are welcome as side and background characters, but it should focus on the nations.
You may have AU’s in AU’s (Example a Nyotalia Fantasia OR 2P Gakuen Hetalia) but you can only select one AU as your main theme.
You must include some of the original cast of the AU in some way. You do not have to have them be the main protagonist, but they must be included in the story in a deeper way than just a background character
In the example of Nyotalia Fantasia, the main cast there as girls, works with the rules. But if you wanted to do a fantasia game in the regular AU but with say the Nordics as the protagonists, it would be encouraged for you to include someone in the original cast line up in some way to show the two are linked.)
Some Example Canon AU’s That are Allowed
Nyotalia
Nekotalia
Mochitalia
Magical Strike
Hetalia Musicals
Gakuen Hetalia
Paint it White (But it cannot be a direct retelling of the movie.)
Halloween Hetalia
Hetalia Fantasia
There are more AU’s than this, I know. But these are a few examples. If you have questions on if you can do a game based on a specific AU, please ask! The only qualifier is they have to be an AU Hima himself has made.
Grab Bags:
The grab bags pose as an extra challenge for those interested in adding them. They are 100% OPTIONAL, you are not required to have them but they add an optional condition to your narrative.
When rolling for your grab bag, you will pick three numbers. Each number is a bag, out of those three, you may choose ONE. If you are not happy with any of your grab bags, you are given the option of re-rolling for a new theme list.
On June 15th, you will be required to submit your final team, main theme and grab bag (if applicable) to the judges before the start of the development month.
...
Schedule
May 15th: Applications Open for the Fam Jam
June 1st: Pre-Development Officially Begins (No Coding)
June 15th: Final Date to submit your official team/theme. Last day to join.
July 1st: Official Jam Begins! (Coding Begins)
August 1st: Jam Ends, extensions provided if needed.
Thanks for Reading to the Very End! Here’s the Sign Up Link!

Are there things you cannot possibly explain? Are strange things happening to you? These four may be your last hope!
The Challengers of the Unknown section on the DC Comics website from July 1997.
Transcripts under the cut:
INTRO:
Step into The Light...
CHALLENGERS OF THE UNKNOWN
The scene: A jumbo jetliner crashes in the Rockies. In the aftermath, four lone survivors pull themselves from the wreckage and are instantly transfixed by a mysterious bright light bathing the disaster site. The light, growing brighter and brighter by the second, "sings" to them, envelops them, until it is all... until it is everything!
After the accident, race car driver Clay Brody, theoretical physicist Brenda Ruskin, game designer Kenn Kawa, and pilot Marlon Corbet go back to their lives - lives which now seem shallow and unreal. In the weeks that follow the strange occurrence, each is haunted by recurring dreams of the crash and its aftermath, blindly unaware of the changes that have taken place - altering their lives forever!
The four are unexpectedly reunited by Sands, an elderly gentleman with a very special power: the ability to recognize others who have also been touched by The Light. The mysterious benefactor makes them an intriguing offer: If they agree to band together to continue his work, he'll fund them, give them access to information he's gathered over the years, and help them develop their newfound powers. This could be the turning point.. the moment they've been waiting for: to seek the truth, explore the unexplainable... to challenge the unknown!
---
BRENDA RUSKIN:
Flamboyant in style, Ruskin is deeply passionate about her career and most other things in her life. Easily the smartest of the Challengers, she became one of the youngest theoretical physicist in history, working out the mysteries of quarks and dark matter, and her nerve and straightforwardness put her in demand on the lecture circuit. Her love life is less successful, and whereas Brody has no relationships, she has too many of them, with old boyfriends tending to pop up at the worst possible times. Her romances tend to be short-fused and burn out rapidly.
While she has no surviving family, she's ardent both in theorizing about the unknown and in placing those theories in the context of existing scientific knowledge, to make the unknown understandable, though she has a more liberal definition of understandable than most. Her innate empathy with technology seems somehow stronger since the incident that created the Challengers, but it doesn't unsettle her.
An only child pushed to excellence by parents at the expense of friends, Ruskin seeks companionship as much as knowledge from the Challengers. But the one she feels closest to is Kenn. Though she's serious about being friends with all of them; she's almost always at odds with Corbett, and finds Brody alternately arrogant and smothering, as if he can't believe she can take care of herself. Sparks of all kinds occasionally fly between her and all members of the group. She just loves the adventure and the sheer "unintellectuality" of the whole thing.
---
MARLON CORBETT:
Pilot, from Denver, CO. Marlon comes from a middle-class background with strong family values, including strong but not overbearing, traditional religious beliefs and a liberal political tradition. Though the urge that drove him to fly was to find something beyond all that.
Following a liberal arts college education, Corbett enlisted in the air force, and later became a civilian pilot. His family is large, supportive and tightly knit, he's probably the most eager of all the Challengers to dig into their mission, and easily the most lighthearted.
Of the four of them, Corbett has the most to lose by his involvement in the Challengers. His family and fiancee, (who's threatening to end their engagement), don't understand his involvement with "the occult" along with his willingness to abandon his job, and he's not even certain he understands it himself. The situation becomes a test of his family's strength.
Marlon has been troubled by unsettling dreams since the incident that created the Challengers. He disregards the feelings until he meets Sands and realizes they are all changed.
Because he has the strongest family life of the four of them, he is both the most supportive member of the group and apparently the most tenuous, since he has a life elsewhere. But he's tied to the group by the desire to be something more than what he has been, to not be just a member of his family or of a nondescript flight crew, but to stand out, to prove himself. the most easygoing of the group, he openly likes everyone, rising above their petty squabbles and frequently providing the viewpoint that lets the rest of the group rise above them, too.
His natural charm makes him a good front man for the group when they have to deal with the public or smooth the ruffled features of officials.
---
KENN KAWA:
The hardest to pigeonhole of all the Challengers, Kawa designs role-playing games for a living, and enjoys his skill at "playing" widely diverse characters. A firm believer in believing, his beliefs are equally mutable, tending toward wilder concepts; one week he'll espouse psychic surgery, the next primal scream therapy, the next Zen meditation. His family offers no clue to his true nature: his parents divorced, they and his sister are scattered across the globe, and he rarely sees them, though they exchange the usual birthday and holiday cards.
Unknown to anyone, he has an ex-wife and child, but prefers to keep them away from this part of his life. Kawa meanders through relationships with women, who tend to remain his friend rather than angry ex-lovers when he breaks up with them. But Kawa has constants: loyalty, an active practical imagination, an eye for details, a zest for new possibilities - and the ability to keep a secret.
Certain aspects of his fluid character are affecting his everyday life since the incident that created the Challengers, but he welcomes it, embracing anything new as a positive change in his being. Kawa enjoys periodically changing the direction of his life, so the Challengers come at the right time for him. There's little malicious about Kawa, but he delights in testing, seeing how far things can be pushed before he has to go a different way, and this is his chance to test reality. He "tests" his fellow Challengers as well, constantly challenging their preconceptions; he's the most open to the unknown of all of them. He particularly pushes Ruskin's buttons, triggered by her hot temper and her subtle claims to intellectual superiority, but underneath it all they enjoy each others company.
---
CLAY BRODY:
Race car driver, from Pikeville KY. Coming from a coal mining family, Brody is solid and dependable, but his childhood also left him with a taste for risk, and beating it. His father is dead, his mother and his three sisters have never left KY; and since a wild period in his teens when they wrote him off as bad, he hasn't dealt with any of them.
He's very methodological, believing only in what he can see, feel, plan or strategize. Even following his encounter with The Light, Brody resists acceptance of the paranormal and particularly of the spiritual, viewing everything with a skeptical, grounded eye. But, even he cannot deny that his experience during the incident that created the Challengers has changed him, and that change frightens him the more he understands it. Until he meets Sands, and learns the others have been similarly changed, he thinks he's going crazy.
While pleasant enough toward the others, and far from hostile, Brody is guarded around them, determined to find rational explanations for what they investigate, to ground the group in what he perceives as reality. In many ways, he's their anchor. He stays with the Challengers due to a secret need for a family he never really had, but learned behavior with his own family gets in the way. What the others mistake for occasional arrogance is actually shyness. He's rarely without black driving gloves, not really for his image, he wears them to guard himself from... something.

Senyuu AU Masterpost
I asked if I should do this on Twitter but Twitter is trash for big posts like this so I’m posting it on Tumblr.
I’m calling this an AU masterpost but I’m including canon alternate versions of characters too. I’m writing this assuming you don’t know anything past S4, but it will contain spoilers for F5 and the Haruhara Robinson Channel content.
Since the majority of these AUs are entirely fan-based with only the slightest bit of official content, I’ll also discuss common fanwork concepts, including things like special ship names for particular AUs.
Table of Contents

Elf’s Universe (”0verse”)
Meta Ros
This got super-long so I highly suggest using CTRL/CMD+F to jump to just the ones you’re interested in!
Common AUs
All the AUs in this category are universes you see everywhere in fan content, regardless of how much official content there is for it.
Web
Tumblr media
Alright, this isn't an "AU", but including it for completion's sake. This is the main canon, the original Alba and Ros from the original webcomic. The anime and the Main Quest manga can be considered to be equivalent to the web-verse.
Official Japanese | English Scanlations
SQ
Tumblr media
(Image from Jump SQ’s website.)
SQ is an “official” Senyuu AU - it’s basically Senyuu if Alba and Ros kept their Season 1 dynamic forever and nothing really bad ever happened. Haruhara has said a number of times that an important thing about SQ is that everything sad has gone poof, which is why he decides against giving a sad dramatic reason why Ros’ name went from Sion to Ros in SQ-verse. Other notable changes in SQ include Januar being human, Elf being a demon, and Foyfoy being cute and shy.
Senyuu SQ originally ran in the Jump SQ magazine for thirty chapters (Official Japanese | English Scanlations), named as such because of the magazine it ran in. More recently, Haruhara began releasing SQ Senyuu! on his channel, where the SQ stands for Super Quality and definitely not anything copyrighted (Official Japanese | English Scanlations.) The chapters released on his channel were sometimes in draft form, so he additionally inked some and released it in doujinshi form (Official Japanese | English Scanlations), along with a doujinshi-exclusive chapter.
Senyuu SQ Alba (seen above) looks identical to Web S1 Alba. SQ Senyuu! Alba (seen below) looks like Web S2 Alba but short and without the Red Fox scarf. SQ Ros doesn’t change appearances between Senyuu SQ and SQ Senyuu! He has the Web S1 Ros hairstyle, but lacks his armour and sword - his bat is his most defining feature.
Tumblr media
High School
There’s actually two different high school AUs:
Tumblr media
SQ Academy: There’s three omake chapters in SQ Senyuu where everyone is in high school - see here and here, in volumes 1 and 2 respectively. In the SQ High School AU, Ros, Alba, Hime-chan, Foyfoy, Januar, and Rudolf are students, while Rchi is a teacher. Alba is the president of an unnamed club with Ros as a club member.
Tumblr media
(Image from Haruhara’s twitter.)
Soccer Club Drama CD: This drama CD was released with one of the MQ volumes. You can only buy the original Japanese on auction sites now, but you can listen to the audio and read a translated transcript here! This AU features only Ros, Alba, and Crea, who are all part of the same soccer club. Alba is the club president.
In both AUs, Ros calls Alba “Prez”. The canon content for both AUs is rather sparse, so the Prez thing is usually the only thing that’s retained in most fanworks. Reincarnation stories are pretty popular in fanworks, but there’s no hints or implications in either official High School AU that it’s connected to SQ or Web canons. Usually people use the Drama CD designs (probably because they don’t want to draw Ros with S1 hair.) Sometimes they use the SQ Academy designs at the start, then change to the Drama CD designs in second-year or something.
There’s also the Senyuu Light Music Club from one of the web omakes, which features Crea and Elf. I haven’t seen any works incorporate it though.
Japanese terminology glossary
High School AU: 学パロ - Gakuparo
Prez:  部長 - Buchou
---
Magical Girl Alfo-chan
This is the mahou shoujo parody of Senyuu, featuring Alba as a girl - Alfo-chan - and Ros as a cat - Roll.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Image no longer available online.)
Roll is usually made into a cute catboy that can transform into a cat, because I mean, why wouldn’t you. And also presumably people want a Roll they can ship with Alfo-chan. For some reason there’s also a lot of works that ship Alfo-chan with Creasion, though I’m not sure where it came from.
The “official title” of this parody is actually Magical Princess Alfo-chan, not Magic Girl Alfo-chan, and most fanworks on pixiv are found under this name.
Japanese terminology glossary
Magical Princess Alfo-chan: マジカルプルンセスアルフォちゃん
Alfo: アルフォちゃん
Roll: ロール
Alfo/Creasion: アシルフォ - Ashirufo
Alfo/Roll: ロルアル - Roruaru
---
Visual kei
Visual kei is a music genre - you can read about it here. This AU started because Haruhara drew a pic of Alba and Ros in visual-kei-like outfits, and then it all spiraled from there. There’s three images that fuel this entire AU:
Tumblr media
(Image from Haruhara’s twitter. Note that you can find a higher quality scan of this art if you download this artbook scan here.)
Tumblr media
(Image from Haruhara’s twitter.)
Tumblr media
(Image no longer available online.)
The Alba and Ros in the first image were dubbed Visual-ba and Visual-ros, the Ros in the second image “Roppongi” (because his t-shirt says “Roppongi Hills”, and the Alba in the last image “Kuroba” (because Kuro means black and he’s black-haired.) Why were the bottom two images lumped in with the first? That’s a mystery that may never be solved.
There’s two common variations of the AU in fanworks.
The first is where Kuroba + Visual-ba and Roppongi + Visual-ros are two pairs of brothers, and typically the pairings go Kuroba/Visual-ros and Roppongi/Visual-ba. In this variation, Visual-ba basically always gets to be Alba, while Roppongi and Visual-ros often take the names Ros and Sion respectively.
The second common variation is where Kuroba and Roppongi are just the civilian identities of Visual-ba and Visual-ros, which doesn’t have a pithy shipname in Japanese.
With regards to their visual kei identities, I’ve also usually seen two main variations - either Alba and Ros are currently in a singing group together, or Ros used to be a famous singer and Alba is currently trying to get famous under his tutelage.
Haruhara has also recently posted a glow-up pic of Visual-ba, bringing the grand total of official art in this AU to... four.
Tumblr media
Japanese terminology glossary
Visual kei: ビジュアル系 - vijyuaru kei  (Note that while technically ヴィジュアル is the correct term in Japanese, in the Senyuu fandom, ビジュアル is used for everything, probably because it’s easier to type and say.)
Visual-ba: ビジュアル - bijyuaru
Visual-ros: ビジュロス - bijyurosu
Roppongi:
---
2P
“2P” is used in many fandoms to refer to alternate character designs that are often associated with different personalities as well. In Senyuu, the official 2P designs are all alternate colourings:
Tumblr media
(Image from Haruhara’s pixiv.)
Tumblr media
(Image from one of Haruhara’s artbooks which doesn’t seem to have an online scan, sorry for the bad quality.)
Likely because the bottom two are only available in an artbook, I haven’t seen many fanworks with them. 2P AUs tend to be only 2P Alba and Ros, with some occasional 2P Rchimedes or 2P Crea (who’s typically drawn as 2P Rchimedes with short hair.) 2P Ros is usually drawn with blue eyes, presumably to match with his red Mana Maker. 2P Rchi is also common enough - she tends to be drawn with a blue and black scheme, to contrast with her canon pink and white scheme (example).
2P Alba and Ros have varying personalities in fanworks, but the one consistency seems to be that their personalities are nothing like canon. 2P Ros tends to be the silent serious type or a yandere. 2P Alba tends to be an innocent happy boy or a yandere. You may be seeing a pattern here.
Note also that 2P Ros is usually referred to as 2P Creasion, for obvious reasons.
Japanese terminology glossary
2P Alba/2P Ros: 2Pアシアル - 2P ashiaru or 2Pアルアシ - 2P aruashi. Both are sometimes shortened by removing the “2P”.
Less Common AUs
These AUs aren’t seen quite as much as the juggernauts above, but you’ve probably still seen them around occasionally.
High School Detectives/Police
There’s a few different detective-related fanworks floating out there, based on one of the three official chapters: Detective Ros in Senyuu SQ, Senyuu Police from the webcomic, and High School Detective Teufel in Main Quest Vol. 6, which hasn’t been scanlated yet (runs):
Tumblr media
I haven’t seen too much art of High School Detective Teufel, but I’ve seen a couple fics and art out there for both Senyuu Police and Detective Ros, mostly Senyuu Police.
Himura + Yami
Tumblr media
(Image from Haruhara’s Skeb.)
This isn’t really a Senyuu AU, but it shows up enough to include it here. Himura and Yami are two characters that Haruhara drew - you can see this original picture of them on page 12 of the artbook here. Himura is the redhead - at first, he meant to draw Alba, but he decided in the end it wasn’t Alba anymore and renamed the file to “Himura, psd.” Yami is just a fan-name - he’s only referred to as “the boy that shouldn’t be seen” in the artbook. Himura and Yami eventually appear in Gakumon! with the names Rahimu and Damia respectively.
Senyuu fanworks that include them usually have Himura being an Alba that fell into despair after Ros’ disappearance, while Yami is a physical manifestation of his despair.
Japanese terminology glossary
Himura-kun: 火村くん
Himura-kun/Yami: やみひむ
---
Rosicks + Hialba
This is yet another AU that was born from a mere two pieces of official art:
Tumblr media
(Image from Haruhara’s twitter.)
Tumblr media
(Image from Haruhara Robinson channel.)
The first picture is entitled “Soldier Rosicks” - Haruhara posted it saying it was a Ros beta design. The second picture is an scrapped Alba design for web season 2. Hialba was originally revealed on the NicoNico channel Hiaruron that Haruhara shares with a couple other artists, and so he got the name “Hiaruba” --> Hialba from the channel name.
Fanworks typically have Hialba as dead inside and sad because of Ros’ disappearance, and Rosicks as a gruff irritable guy who isn’t Ros and doesn’t like being compared to him. Cue angst because Hialba sees Rosicks as just Ros, etc.
Japanese terminology glossary
Hialba: ひあるば
Rosicks/Hialba: ロシひあ - Roshihia
---
Sheepba
Sheepba originates from a New Year’s illustration Haruhara made for the year of the sheep:
Tumblr media
(Image from Haruhara’s pixiv.)
While Haruhara has done this for multiple years - there’s illustrations of Alba as a dog, a rat, etc. - Sheepba in particular became particularly popular. Why? Is it the floofy body? The innocent expression? Nay. I say there’s but one reason for Sheepba’s popularity in comparison to other Chinese Zodiac/Alba hybrids-
Haruhara has produced a crapton of Sheepba merch over the years.
I believe he’s made coloured sheep versions of other characters too for merch, but I unfortunately wasn’t able to find any of them. I was, however, able to find outlined drawings of them:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Image from Haruhara’s twitter.)
Enjoy this flock of Senyuu sheep. And be prepared to see some uh... questionable things if you choose to browse the ひつじるば - Hitsujiba tag.
Wild West
Tumblr media
This AU comes from the Wild West parody in this chapter. The fanworks I’ve seen tend to have Ros be some dangerous outlaw with a huge bounty.
Obscure AUs/Outfit Changes
These AUs tend to be only used as outfit changes, or aren’t seen often at all.
Feral Ros + Adventurer Alba
Tumblr media
Basically a Tarzan AU. Based on this Haruhara Channel comic: Official Japanese | English Scanlation.
Formal Wear
You may sometimes see Alba and Ros wearing suits. There’s two pieces of art this originates from:
Tumblr media
(Image from Haruahara’s twitter.)
Tumblr media
(Image from Haruhara’s twitter.)
There’s also a corresponding Ros-in-suit-with-striped-shirt photo that you can see in the artbook here.
Karaoke
You may have seen characters dressed up as what seemed like waiter outfits. That may have come from the Senyuu Karaoke collaboration that happened around when the anime aired:
Tumblr media
(Image from collaboration website.)
Kindergarten
This comes from the recent Haruhara Robinson channel comics - Senyuu Kindergarten Story #1 and Story #2.
Tumblr media
It features Alba and Rchi as kindergarten teachers to the rest of the Senyuu cast.
Saeki-san
Haruhara was the writer for a manga called Dignified Asleep Saeki-san (Official Japanese | English Scanlations), which was a romcom that featured a girl called Saeki determined to sleep in class, and a boy called Tokimiya who sits next to her.
When the manga began serialization, Haruhara drew a parody sketch of the manga where Ros is Tokimiya and Alba is Saeki.
Tumblr media
(Image from Haruhara’s twitter.)
Scientist Ros
You may have seen art of Ros wearing the glasses + lab coat combo from when he made the Mana Maker in season 3:
Tumblr media
Or from when Alba had his... questionable body measurement exam in Senyuu+:
Tumblr media
Or when they both wore glasses in the Haruhara Robinson Channel doujinshi Crea-kun Has Cheerfully Fallen to the Dark Side:
Tumblr media
University
A while back, Haruhara drew a picture of Alba and Ros in the winter wearing coats:
Tumblr media
(Image from Haruhara’s pixiv.)
A little more recently, he was commission to redraw the image:
Tumblr media
(Image from Haruhara’s pixiv.)
Fanworks that use Alba and Ros in these outfits often treat them as university AUs (and usually have them on a date.)
Urashima Tarou
Urashima Tarou is an old Japanese fairytale which Haruhara used as the setting for one of his omake segments. If you’ve seen turtle Alba:
Tumblr media
Or Ros in old-timey fishing clothes:
Tumblr media
That’s where it’s from.
Vampire Ros
The typical Vampire Ros design comes from an SQ chapter where Alba and Ros disguise themselves as demons after chasing Elf into the demon world.
Tumblr media
Alba is usually either a werewolf (presumably because werewolves and vampires are a common pair) or some hapless human that Ros sucks blood from.
Wedding
Tumblr media
(Image from Haruhara’s twitter.)
Haruhara drew this when he was getting married(?) because it apparently felt less embarrassing to draw his protagonist getting married than to draw him and his wife.
Fans promptly used the outfit to marry Alba off to Ros, likely galvanized by the Mana Maker + Hero Symbol combo on Alba’s head.
Canon Adjacent AUs/Canon Alternate Characters
Moved to an overflow post here because this one got big enough that Tumblr stopped saving my post.

Tumblr media
What’s your daily routine?
I usually get up around 7am. First thing is to get myself situated, shower, brush my teeth. Then if the weather allows it, I will take a morning walk, and if it’s not the best weather outside I just read and meditate at home. After that, I make breakfast and wake up the kids to get ready for school and the day. After breakfast, I start my day with my first call at 9am a daily stand-up. Then I create the task list for the day and start to tackle that list while taking breaks to do homeschooling and interact with the kids.
Combining parenthood and entrepreneurship can be challenging. How do you manage your family and your company?
Having a clear schedule is the best way to handle all things family and kids because at any moment there is so much going on. With a clear schedule, I can then build the flexibility I need, swap out things when needed and just make sure any fires that pop up personal or professional I have the mental space to tackle. I also have many standard operating processes in both my house and my company so if t I am not available, someone else is and can hop in.
“I have many standard operating processes in both my house and my company.”
What’s the advice you would give to an aspiring entrepreneur?
Stay persistent. Life is all about curveballs. The sooner you accept that “the game is rigged and fair” doesn’t exist, the sooner you gain the mental freedom to just DO, without worrying about if you’re doing it wrong or right.
What’s your biggest failure as an entrepreneur?
My biggest failure was being fearful of my finances. This was a huge failure for me because my personal financial insecurities trickled into my business and because of that some business ventures I have had failed. I was afraid to charge my worth or even charge at all. Once I started tackling this fear I because more successful overall.
I was afraid to charge my worth or even charge at all.
And your biggest win?
I would say one of my biggest wins was getting into the CUNY startups accelerator when I was in college. It gave me a huge sense of confidence in my work as an entrepreneur. Then when I made it to the Top 4 it was clear that I had all this untapped potential inside me that I needed to embrace.
A word on your book “The Art of Getting Sh*t Done”— How do you go from being a dreamer to a doer?
You go from being a dreamer to being a doer by starting. Life is a journey and so is everything in life including entrepreneurship. You will feel overwhelmed at times, and think you don’t have everything you want to start or continue that journey. This could be true, but you will always have everything that you need within you!
Just start, here, today, now with what you have and EVERYTHING else will fall into you path.
You raised more than $9,000 to fund the Black Podcasting Awards. What was your strategy and in other words, the key to success for someone wanting to start a crowdfunding campaign?
The key to the success of that campaign was tapping into my network and sharing what I was doing. I did a lot of cold tweeting, random live streams, texting, emailing, and posting on social media. When we were less than 48 hours from the deadline and below half of our goal I told myself that we would not only meet, but exceed our goal. Then I pulled out every card I had and made it happen. When we were less than 48 hours from the deadline and below half of our goal I told myself that we would not only meet, but exceed our goal.
You’ve been a wedding officiant for 5 years. Tell us more about that!
Well, I am a nerd! I love learning and doing new things. When I became a wedding officiant I was on a major “Side Hustle” journey. I loved the flexibility that being an entrepreneur offered but I was also aware that I had bills and a child to take care of so I needed to make money. I got certified so it could be an income stream and also so that I could go to more weddings. At the time of getting certified I had only been to one or two weddings in my entire life. What’s the best way to get invited to a wedding? By being a vendor! Being a wedding officiant satisfied a professional and personal need all at once. Since getting certified I have helped four couples say “I Do”.

What’s your number one rule for a successful online event?
Start from the goal and work your way backward! The golden rule to community engagement around your brand? Be yourself. When I try to get all fancy with the content people don’t really resonate with it. I get the most engagement when I remain my crazy, doing-the-most self.
Tell me about your thoughts on diversity in tech.
Diversity in tech is essential. At least as a concept. When it is put into action, often time companies miss the mark on what needs to be done to achieve this goal. The systematic issues that come from the government, constitution, and institutions built many years ago consistently leave diversity initiatives gasping for air. The only time true diversity will be achieved is when companies and their leaders look at it as a staple in business success from day one, not as an afterthought to not get attacked by the public.
The systematic issues that come from the government, constitution, and institutions built many years ago consistently leave diversity initiatives gasping for air.
What steps can tech companies take to be more diverse and inclusive?
They can start by taking a look within, “Do we have unconscious biases?”. Then from there, they can begin to look at their team and goals and see if the picture that they see reflects their short and long-term goals as a company. There are many, many, many diverse team members and founders out there. Diversity in race, ethnicity, gender, orientation, geographic location, education level, age, and the list goes on and on. But before a company can embrace that diversity and become inclusive they have to take a look at their own flaws as to why have they never seen this before? Why did they not think of this before? Then and only then will companies become diverse and inclusive in an authentic way.

The whole Lee being bald thing was just a mean hoax. It was never verified by any legit sources, just a bogus reddit post. There’s been plenty of those.
PSA: Rock Lee isn’t balding! I repeat, Rock Lee IS NOT BALDING! Here’s the Proof!
I knew that not watching Boruto would catch up with me eventually, so here’s me amending my previous statement: There’s no official confirmation that Rock Lee is actually balding in Boruto.
And BOY did I do a deep dive of the internet for this. Saddle up kids, I’m about to throw on my amateur detective hat and take you for a wild ride through the internet to end this rumor once and for all.
Warning: Long, picture-heavy post where I cross-examine multiple sources.
Tumblr media
Part I: The situation!
Tumblr media
Here’s a compilation of the screencaps from Boruto episode 58 that sparked a thousand rumors.
Looking at the top-left screencap, we can see a strange rendition of Lee’s hairline. Following this introduction, Boruto and Yurui begin their match. When Yurui unleashes his unnamed Bubblegum-Pop jutsu, Boruto is thrown back. Rock Lee then grabs his hair due to the heavy winds that emanate from the burst. Putting the two together, it looks vaguely like Rock Lee has a strange hairline that accompanies him frantically grabbing his own hair.
Part II: The “Sources”
Okay, I spent probably close to 4-5 hours scouring through different links and articles. Here’s a breakdown of the internet’s say on the matter:
The first major source is from a website called “Comicbook.com” It’s the website that was linked in multiple other copycat articles, blog posts, and forums, and was the first result for any Google search of “Rock Lee balding” (or variations thereof)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, this isn’t so bad. I see that there are sources linked, so I should be able to logically follow the trail back to either an interview or the name of the “book” in question. First, let’s look at where these so-called linked ‘sources’ lead.
In any part of journalism, linking your sources is the most important step to ensure your audience that you cross-referenced with legitimate sourc-
Tumblr media Tumblr media
aaaand YOU HAVE FAILED Journalism 101.
Hm. despite the fact that this is a Reddit post and not an actual link to ANY book whatsoever, the link’s dead. Deleted. Frankly, this whole search was an endless loop of dead ends, but I was deadset on getting to the bottom of this.
So thus far, I’ve got one lead that wasn’t solved: there’s a rumored “Book” out there somewhere, and it was referenced at “some point.” My first guess would have been a databook, but I’ve read those. Perhaps the one I read had a translation error?
Scrolling through the comments of this Reddit post, I came across this:
Tumblr media
Important context clues here: It’s not stated in a Databook. That means Naruto’s Jin no Sho, the Fourth official databook, is NOT the source of the rumor. Also, I was able to find a scanlation of Rock Lee’s page for the very same book here:
Tumblr media
Rock Lee’s balding also certainly wouldn’t mentioned in any of the previous databooks where Rock Lee was, y’know, a teenager. All four official databooks are off the table.
Secondly, the link posted by user “Hydrobolt” leads to a twitter post with the following:
Tumblr media
No sources, no reference to a book, nothing. Except for a few screenshots of Boruto Episode 58. I’ll discuss these shots later, but this appeared to be yet ANOTHER dead end. (Also, this twitter thread has ZERO links or sources!)
I can see why the post was deleted by the mods, but this was troubling: Did this whole rumor start from ONE twitter post from a shipper (that had single-digit likes/reblogs?)
I didn’t think so. Even if this random tweet was picked up by a semi-popular media outlet, I still needed to answer the following questions:
What was the “book” that supposedly had Kishimoto’s confirmation? Did it exist, or was it a bluff?
Where could I find a scanlated (and hopefully English, though my husband speaks Japanese) version of the Rock Lee page?
Part III: The Search for the Non-Databook “Book”
Even if it wasn’t in a databook, there are multiple interviews and exo-textual sources that can be used to glean information about the characters. I knew I wasn’t looking for an interview–in part because the key was “book,” and also because Kishi has only given a set amount of serious interviews in the past, and most of those are available in translation. Thus, there might have been a storyboard, book, or some other source that was exclusively released that might hold this information.
The most promising lead was from a site called narutoforums.org
The original post:
Tumblr media
Okay, first, there’s no actual link on “here”. That’s a major red flag, especially given that the post is currently only a year old (posted 7.27.18)
And it’s yet another dead end.
…Sigh.
Tumblr media
But wait!
Tumblr media
User “Platypus” mentions that the source was a ‘movie booklet that’s been out for three years.’ That’s a lead!
A movie booklet, huh? Here we go: Sometimes, highly-anticipated animated movies are released in Japan with exclusive manga chapters or other easter eggs, as well as other goodies.
So, let’s talk about this unnamed “Movie booklet” – Three years prior to 2018 would have marked the release of the Baruto movie in 2015. That means the booklet would have been this one: Zai no Sho
Tumblr media
This was the most difficult piece to dig up information on. The booklet in question was only released in Japan and during the original premiere of the movie in 2015. I couldn’t initially find scalations, so I did the next best thing: Looking for a table of contents. Good ‘ol Naruto wiki was here to save the day.
Tumblr media
Boom. It even has page numbers!
Now, I had a supposed book source and even the page numbers. All that was left to find a translation. After some deep digging, I found one—right here on Tumblr via user Emotionalrockfish.
This was the moment of truth! I opened the link for Rock Lee’s page and carefully read over the description…
Tumblr media
Rock Lee
Tireless effort and ambition! With his hot-blooded passion, he guides a genin!!The leaf village’s pride, an expert of taijutsu. He possesses absolutely no skill for ninjutsu, but refines his taijutsu by exceeding the limits of effort with the gutsiness he inherited from his master, and does nothing but aim high. He and his son, Metal*, absolutely can’t miss their daily training!
*Metal Lee is shortened to just Metal here, so no, he’s not called Lee like his father.
(*Pterodactyl screeching*)
AND THERE IT IS: After a whole trail of vague suggestions and dead links, I‘d finally come to the final source material. And there’s nothing! Nothing there that even remotely mentions Lee’s baldness!
N-O-T-H-I-N-G.
Conclusion: RUMOR UNSUBSTANTIATED
Tumblr media
Part IV: So where did this rumor all start? And what’s with “that” scene?
Tumblr media
The Situation Unfolds: The whole situation is from Boruto, Episode 58: The Tournament Begins! The wind in this scene is shown to originate from Yurui’s jutsu.
The bubblegum pop emits a wind blast, throwing Boruto back. The very same blast tussles Lee’s hair.
It’s an obvious gag, but not about Lee: it’s meant to convey the sheer strength that emits from Yurui’s bubbles popping. This is a common trope in anime: Character emits a powerful attack, the audience sees/feels the “force” from the fallout wind.
The audience now knows that there are some stakes to Yurui unleashing his gum-based jutsu, because the force of the blast not only throws Boruto back, but can also reach a good distance away to where the proctor, Rock Lee, was standing.
Further Explanation: It’s also fairly obvious that Boruto (and Ikemoto’s style) deviate from Kishimoto’s, so we should expect some variation in character appearances outside of the expected “age-up” factor.
Here are some original renditions of Lee with his hair (flying) up and his younger self’s hairline:
Tumblr media
In Part I, we see that Lee’s hair falls into a widow’s peak. Then, in concept art for the Naruto: The Last, we see a far less defined peak—in fact, the hairline is decidedly square-shaped.
Tumblr media
Then, finally, in the Boruto animation, Lee’s hair is almost circular (but also shown from an extremely tilted perspective.)
Tumblr media
So we see a distinct transition in the actual SHAPE of Lee’s hairline in conjunction with the evolution of SP/Kishi/Ikemoto’s style. A story written over at least 17 years and spanning over three different series has a change in style? More likely than you think.
Conclusion: It’s a change in the animation style and a throwaway gag aimed at emphasizing the fallout wind from Yurui’s jutsu. Nothing more.
I rest my case, Pumpkin OUT!
