only tangentially related to this ep, but - i have an Avatar concept around the cold/freezing water/hypothermia and drowning, and Ive discussed before which Fear that would most closely align with. A lot of people said the Buried or the Lonely, maybe the Vast, mixed with Dark.
Water and cold can be hard to categorise, even aside from how the categories are arbitrary lines drawn between fears etc etc. Cause these motifs have shown up with the Vast, Buried and Lonely, and probably others on occasion too.
But I think the cold an sich, and cold water especially, are most closely related to the Dark. Just like how Manuela describes the darkness as not the opposite of light, but the absence of it, the universe's natural state; so too does she talk in today's ep about how cold is not the opposite of warmth, but the lack of it. Cold is stillness, quiet, numbing. Dark.
...and also;
109, Nightfall: "As soon as my foot hit the water, I fell into it completely. It was colder than anything I had ever experienced, and the torch slipped from my hand as my vision immediately went dark."
140, The Movement of the Heavens: "I gripped the head of my foul adversary, and forced it down, into the dark pool before us. There I held it, the water so cold upon my skin the marks have yet to fade."
143 Heart of Darkness: "... I began submerging the first of the sacrifices in the brackish water it had blessed with its stillness."
143 ,, : "There is another world, a world of still and quiet darkness, where no heat touches..."
Other Fears statements occasionally also feature water, sometimes even cold water (though it's always accompanied of a mention of how dark it is, too), but it's not as much of A Thing as with the Dark. And I think it's a cool motif which they should get more credit for!

that laios/shuro (toshiro?) argument means a lot to me because on one hand i have been laios and i have been excited to be around people who just would. not. say. that they didnt like me around until they did it in a way that was incredibly painful and confusing when that could have been easily avoided by a short conversation at the time of offense.
on the other hand i have been shuro experiencing that naive racism from someone who doesn't know much outside his bubble & its really hard to confront directly because its not coming from a bad place necessarily, but it is truly drenched in the racial biases that a culture has baked in. and that can be very exhausting to try and explain to someone after being bombarded by such, especially if they seem completely unaware of it being a problem.
its a situation where both characters are sympathetic to me, at least a little.

The parallel between Sokka and Tenzin as their fathers' sons.
Sokka, left at 13 as his father and all the other men head off to war. Hakoda tells him "being a man is knowing where he's needed the most" and he needs to protect his sister, his home.
Tenzin is the second airbender. He is also half water tribe, he's a man. When Aang dies, he will be the last airbender. He understands what he needs to do.
Untold amount of pressure and responsibility have been thrust upon them by their fathers. Though, I believe it is not all intentional, but the unfortunate circumstance of being the fathers of sons who take responsibility incredibly seriously.
In Sokka's case, "protect your sister" is a vague instruction. It was meant to give him purpose, to help him feel okay about being left behind, He is too young for war, his father does not want to bring his child to slaughter. But Sokka will die with purpose. He will train the children of his tribe so they will be protected, he will face a fire nation ship until his last breath. He cannot go to war, but Hakoda did not see that war was all around them. In trying to give Sokka purpose, Hakoda put their world on his shoulders.
We do not get to see Aang be a father (in the TV shows), but we know he had hopes for the future. All his children were air nomads, and the air acolytes brought his culture back, but Tenzin could bend. This part of their culture is one ONLY they share. I do not think Aang would hide this, he is joyous that he gets to share his culture. When he feels respected, he always is, he taught the air acolytes after all. Off handedly, he could say, "I'm hopeful for a future where there are lots more air benders," and that, which feels mostly innocuous to him, is the nail in the coffin of Tenzin's fate. He is Avatar Aang's son, and the future of the air benders. It would not matter that Aang meant a future in generations. Tenzin sees the responsibility and it's his. He is his father's only air bending child, he knows what he needs to do.
Being a parent is not understanding the way the things you say harm your children. Even those things that feel innocuous in the moment can be life altering. Especially the more the child respects the parent. Purpose and Hope for those with a broader perspective, can be death sentences to a life that could have been when expressed to those who idolize the former.

sometimes interpreting media through a shipping lens enhances it, on occasion even beyond the author’s original intent, but sometimes, you do have to accept that your ship was not in the heads of anyone making the source material and trying to force it to fit into evidence of your ship will severely hinder your ability to discuss the actual text.
#and also ill hit you on the head with a brick#posts that. im not going to say theyre about destiel. im not going to say that.#and im not gojng to say it because. i dont need to. you already know <3#and to be clear: its not the interpretation thats a problem here. thats the fun of shipping. its then taking what youve interpreted and then#trying to backread that onto the media itself as intentional. as intended.#dismissing the actual themes and story for evidence of a ship is the problem. u get me?#shipping brainrot is not ‘oh i think these characters would kiss for this reason’.#its ‘this show is and has always been about these characters kissing no matter how much i have to ignore about the show to make that true or#pretend is completely different than its actually presented or straight up make things up to make my ship be a part of the intended reading’#thats the brainrot. the brainrot is when u step off the train of reality.#this is not true about the best piece of art ever made Captain America and the Winter Soldier. btw. that movie IS about bucky and steve#kissing alsjfdjskdjg#(<- okay im being silly here but id like to make a real point here too. the thing about TWS is that. it is genuinely enhanced by a romantic#reading. its not *better* than a platonic one. its just different. being able to see it through that lens does make a lot of the original#movie’s ideas even more complex. case in point like: steve struggling with his dating life. because what shared life experience does he have#with other people who look his age. and the movie is. about. someone who has his shared life experiences. and his mission to get bucky back.#you can see how that lens would be beneficial to the original movie rather than fighting it to prove the ship works in opposition to the#author’s original intent.)

why does every article reporting on idf war crimes go "hamas, who started the war on october 7th with their brutal terrorist attack slaughtering innocent israeli civilians, has condemned the idf's use of-"? like, nearly verbatim every single time. we know about october 7th. we know by now. half the time, hamas isnt even relevant but they gotta find some way to sow doubt and numb any potential compassion responses. will you get fired if you show sympathy for murdered palestinian civilians without first adding a disclaimer saying its all their fault for being born in gaza? if you call "palestinians under 18" children? if you use the words "murdered" or "brutal" or "massacre" for acts that didnt occur on october 7th? if you call a spade a spade? why are israeli reports front page news without proper fact-checking but palestinian reporting is always "allegedly" even when theres video evidence? why does the idf not get the hamas treatment of reminding everyone that theyre biased before treating their words as law, like they havent been caught bold-faced lying again and again?
#soooooo fucking infuriating#'palestinians are allegedly starving but thats what hamas (who are savage terrorists in case you forgot) said as well so who knows?'#'idf soldiers are allegedly bragging about and showing pictures and videos of their war crimes on social media but#its not in english so we may never know what theyre saying. palestinian ''civilians'' are translating so whatever they say must be wrong'#'in other news. heres what ''doctors'' are referring to as a ''calendar'' but is written in arabic (terrorist language) so the idf must be#telling the truth when they say its proof they are all evil and must in some nebulous way suddenly stop living'#to be fair. the 'secret hamas names list disguised as calendar but REALLY about oct 7' shit was the target of skepticism quite early on#but it really does show how often the idf lies to justify obvious war crimes#maybe they should provide verified evidence or even just be given a bias disclaimer before printing their claims as fact???#every single fucking death toll is phrased as 'hamas-run ministry of health reports death toll of x' like?#yeah? thats their fucking government? what else do you expect?#you do understand that the healthcare portion of their government is probably more reputable#than what the phrasing of those headlines are obviously trying to imply?#i understand that bias is still possible there but its not armed combatants making shit up#its doctors who receive govt paychecks doing their best to identify the disfigured bodies not buried under rubble#youre not slick with that wording

I think klavier has The Autisms and/or OCD. Btw.
"he's just a perfectionist" he got so distracted and upset about a missed cue in a song that it distracted him from a literal murder investigation. He felt so strongly about it that he couldn't get past it.

if theres one thing that differentiates mine and sawashiro its that sawashiro is JUST a LITTLE silly. on a microscopic level he is SUPER MINUTELY goofy
#snap chats#LET ME EXPLAIN PUT THE TOMATO DOWN#Evidently rggjo is Blatantly more silly so to speak. from a comparative standpoint#but y7jo has a modicum of that i prommy#like mine just aint silly like that... he's very serious about everything its hard for me to think of him being a goof#the closest he was to being goofy was before slappin haruka with that grin ☠️#i would never forget his story time with daigo in rggo dont you ever accuse me of that again im just saying ITSA RARE OCCURRENCE#it's hard to imagine sawashiro being a goof too but there's like. VERY rare scenarios where it is possible if we try hard enough#case in point. bullying ichi BYE--#ACCIDENTALLY PROVING MY POINT WITH THAT TATTOO COMIC I DID damn maybe i do know what im talking about sometimes#like 3/4 times jo smiles it's with ichi. a wholesome sentiment if not for the context of each time LMAO#he gets his kicks from bullying ichi and thats horrible but hilarious at the same time#first time its before he slugs him and mitsu for the money then theres their lil reunion in chap 2#and a PERSONAL favorite of mine his lil smirk he does before he grabs the sword off the wall. like hes a lil goofy i sense it#that smirk still makes me laugh like bro shut up LMAO hes about to beat my ass and im gonna be mad about it#like things mine does are surely silly and goofy dont get me wrong. his comedys unintentional sawashiro's trying JUST a lil me thinks#a classic maneuver from a depressed mfer this shouldnt be surprising in retrospect#i say that as if mine dont got issues....... lol...#ok im done rambling where the fuck am i gon with this post. bye

I have complicated feelings about hunter n willow cause I like weirdly enough dislike lowhunt less now than I did initially but I'm just too attached to my aro hcs of them to put that aside for a ship I have no interest in
However people who say the ship is problematic because of the 2 year age gap are way too online. just say you aren't into it, that's all

me, listening to a podcast about a guy in prison based entirely on a coerced confession: what do you mean the members of the jury still think hes guilty now that they know about coerced confessions??? did you not hear four police officers interrogating and shouting at a 19-year-old while hes sobbing through a story inconsistent with the actual evidence???? there was no other evidence, how do you still think hes guilty???
me, ten minutes later: ...oh, right. if they say hes not guilty, that means they sent an innocent kid to prison. yeah, now that uh makes sense.
#kai rambles#i finally listened to bear brook season 2#and i spent pretty much the entirety of it internally screaming#because this guy has spent over three decades in prison because this ''hotshot detective with the best solved case record'' had a hunch#and then bullied his way into ''proving it'' whilst leveraging criminal charges over people and interrogating people for over 10 hours and#not fucking solving anything considering he got two confessions that were both a) recanted b) inconsistent with the evidence of the case and#c) inconsistent with each other. and then his main suspect who did not confess had to be released without charge because the other two#wouldnt testify to his supposed involvement and that was the entirety of the evidence and then one of the other suspects#a kid in his early 20s got acquitted partly because that detective broke courthouse rules so he and his partner could get their stories#correct and just told the prosecutor he was doing that as if the prosecutor wouldnt tell the judge like its his job on the line too#and then the guy STILL IN PRISON today was convicted because ''why would someone confess to a murder they didnt commit?''#and i get ''oh it was a different time'' but god the privellege of those jury members to have never been in a situation where you would say#ANYTHING to get someone to stop yelling at you or interrogating you or just hurting you in anyway. hes 19 years old and crying sylvia#also like if a detective has a very high success record#someone should check that because while maybe it is genuinely someone finding the people responsible but thats a blue moon situation#also also the guy in prison jason carroll's attorney recently found the original evidence from the case including fingernail clippings#with the blood of her presumed murdered on them and obviously the attorney cynthia wants them dna tested so she petitioned the coury#*court#and the prosecution objected saying ''there is no result from dna evidence that could exonerate jason carroll'' which is obviously a lie#because they want to keep their conviction record nice and shiny but god fuck that team so much#there was literally a serial killer who lived nearby around that time like if its his blood are you gonna argue jason was still involved??#im very angry about it#can you tell?#i was angry crying earlier. i put the season on while i played sims expecting it to be more like the first season but nope#i was in for an angry ride instead

Scotland, despite having a quarter of the population of England, had three times the number of Witch Trials and four times the average within Europe in the 17th century is like. Ah. My dudes. Mayhaps chill?
Like Arthur getting over the worst hump of it following the end of the Commonwealth and a near military theocracratic regime only to turn one way and his brother immediately files 600 cases to Scottish Courts like oh geez but then he to turns around another way to find Alfred has gone off his rocker in Connecticut and Massachusetts and it's like just stop ✋️ for five seconds please.

Ok so I looked for Lord of the Rings to see if there were any major non-white chracters. There are not, it seems. However, I did find this one video that poses as being super fucking woke whilst actually just being incredibly racist and I thought you'd all like to see it.
youtube
Now, you might notice that it says all the words spoken by a person of colour in the movie. That tells me they mean the characters and not the actors. Now, in terms of race in Lord of the Rings, they're right, race in Lord of the Rings is moreso surrounding the differences between humans, orcs, hobbits etc; unfortunately this video's premise is built on real-world ethics so I'm gonna have to rule it by that, also they said "person of colour", again forwarding that same idea.
So the video that's like "wow, only less than a minute of non-white characters speaking? That's so racist." Actually said "The Orcs are clearly POC." If you can't tell, that's really fucking racist.
---------------------------------------------------
To circle back, I will say it's not exactly great that, in the movies, there aren't any notable non-white characters. Frankly it does feel very strange to me that there are literally none (Shagrat doesn't count because he's not human, already covered) however it is worth noting that I'm not as into LotR as many others are, I haven't even read the books. For all I know there could be some that got cut from the movies that were in the books. In the movies they could have swapped the races of people and I'd have been none the wiser. The best way to see it, JRR Tolkien does have accounts of racism and his work will probably reflect that to some degree, authorial intent is important after all, however have you thought for a minute that how you see it as a viewer probably says more?

That reminds me of a post you made a bit back, so I went and glanced at it and. You used the phrase "he values trust as far as he needs it" but I definitely don't think he has a very good perspective for all the times it's needed because I'd say "teaching children how to not die in a dangerous field job filled with fire and explosions you yourself have many times only survived by chance or unanticipated outside help also by chance" is definitely something that needs trust, if not his sake than for theirs.
well hindsight is 20/20, i'd argue his previous 5 years of teaching showed him he doesn't need trust to do the job and thats.... maybe... kinda.... like i don't agree but i can see his local rationality there? Thing is, Aizawa and I don't have the same job- we have maybe 1/6th of a same job. He's a homeroom teacher in a country with very different expectations of that role and as far as i understand it, its kinda weird he's later shown teaching content? (Hori is it too much to beg for some consistency or further elaboration on the plot device magic school)
that paragraph derailed, sorry- point is, Aizawa saw it as his job to keep the students alive, and did that by scaring them smart. As their homeroom teacher, the EASY and SIMPLE and NORMAL way to do that role would be to establish trust so they listen to your advice to not die but noooo. he decided to scare them, and then amp up stress so they'd listen to OTHER teachers (the ones actually providing the hero training and field practice stuff) more. After all, they'd look more honest and dependable in comparison. Considering that as far as we know none of his former students died in action, technically. technically he's doing his job sucessfully enough that he can argue he doesn't NEED trust/honesty here.
he's an idiot for doing it that way (and an idiot ignoring the other parts of the homeroom teaching purpose like. mental wellbeing and social emotional learning because he considers them less important) but still. this could really be fixed without even changing his attitude about trust and honesty if he just got some gosh darn teacher training
#thing is he got 156 expulsions in 5 years#which means either 1- expelling kids not in his class of 20 which means the other homeroom teachers approved the method#or at least were willing to let him do it#or 2- he expelled some kids multiple times#possibly the case being that the second time was 'for real' and to keep them out of the field so they didn't die in it#or 3- a mix of both#all 20 of his class last year got expelled at first#and i think all 20 moved up so none of them could have been double expellees#but his methods.......... do not completely undo his purpose#so he has *some* rational to continue them#not enough if you ask me#so yeah fun ask fun answer fun post to reference#thats actually a post i kinda regret making because...... so many people interpreted that wrong and said 'noooo trust is important to him'#and like....... the evidence they brought up would have little to do with the honesty thing#which i was focusing on because i was talking to a friend and realized we had very different views on honesty/trust#the friend of mine would sometimes lie no problem no reason if they did not feel you were absolutely entitled to the truth#just to do it#where i had moral implications about the truth in my head if there was no specific reason for lying#basically i felt you needed a reason to lie#and my friend felt you needed a reason to tell the truth#and sometimes that reason was 'you felt like it' but sometimes not#and so i said 'huh' and looked at lying liar aizawa#and wondered where he'd fit between those two views#and then i made the post and it blew up and i hated it because a bunch of people who thought aizawa is hot got mad at me for#morally judging him or something i guess (i was not but ok)#and no. aizawa is not hot. he's ugly. he's pretty. he's both pretty and ugly. but he isn't hot. hope that clarifies#anon#pocket talks to people#huh haven't talked about a my he ro character this much in a while i feel like#whats the occasion

if tf:e bee is my problematic fave then so be it. I'll be the tf:e bee apologist
#spoilers btw#u ppl are Mad mad at tf:e bee? For real? You have genuine hatred in ur heart for yellow man?#u ppl are serious . for real ?#2 times ive seen ppl actually declare they hate him for. a single dark joke#that they wouldn't bat an eye for if it was like another character making that joke#like if it was whirl or blitz they'd be like ''OH HOW QUIRKY OF THESE GUYS joking abt death lollololol''#but if bee does it and goes against their reductive interpretation of bee just being the ''silly baby boy''#then bee is cancelled cancelled for million years#like ur operating on the assumption that the autobots caused sounds to be starved. there is no evidence of this#for all we know both sides could have been starving#and projecting a familial relationship between the casettes & sounds#thats not likely to be the case based on how frenzy talks abt how theyre ''free'' from him now#and then assuming bee was actually fine with this and not the chance that bee was joking to cope with that trauma#like a lot of the rise of the t.mnt crew worked on this and. u know smth#first episode leo made a comment on how he jokes to cope#this concept is probably not lost in tf:e#and bee literally had his upbringing be wartimes like u dont come out of that without being at least a little fucked up#like of course he would have dark humor hes seen the horrors of war for his entire life#but even then these are all still assumptions#we DONT KNOW all the details of this event and why bee reacts in that certain way and we may never know !!#it drives me a lil crazy that characters like whirl are allowed to be like this#but bee is not allowed bc hes supposed be only be nice and a baby with no depth#I'll die on this hill btw#bc i am The bee apologist i will defend him#ive been advocating for tf:a bee already. whats one more#🐝 could you repeat the last part? 🟦
