Another post-nwh concept:
One of peters loved ones finds a photo album he made.
They seem so happy together in the pictures, and they wonder why they can’t remember him.
And they try to find this mystery boy in the photos.
I imagine it to Ed Sheeran’s “Photograph”

At first, Luigi is hopeful. He sits in his (admittedly comfortable) cell with his head held high. He looks out the window and imagines what his brother will do when he finally comes for him. There’s no question that Bowser will get the beating of a lifetime, of course, but Luigi still wonders how the showdown will go. He occupies his mind by imagining it all.
After 4 days, Luigi starts to get worried. He and his brother had never taken this long to rescue Peach when she’d gotten captured. Bowser must have realized this too for he soon takes the time to actually speak to Luigi.
“Your brother busy or something?”, he jokes. It gets a chuckle out of Luigi. Only a small one.
After an entire week has passed, Luigi stops responding to his captor entirely. It’s a real shame. The two had been having nice conversations. Bowser is a nice guy behind his tough façade. The constant kidnapping thing he has going on isn’t ideal, but at least he’s not cruel.
Once Luigi goes silent, Bowser starts bringing him more and more of his meals personally. He smiles kindly when Luigi finally takes a bite after an entire hour of refusing and it’s the only thing that awakens Luigi from his depressive state, if only slightly. Bowser keeps talking throughout these interactions, even if his captive won’t respond.
After two weeks, as Luigi sits on his little bed, slowly sipping at his soup, he finally cracks. His sobs come so suddenly, they surprise even him. The man barely even registers Bowser kneeling in front of him. He perhaps says something but Luigi can’t hear him. He’s too busy sobbing pathetically onto his meal.
He’s not sure how he finds himself in the koopa’s arms, sobs shaking him violently. He’s not sure who was the one to even go in for the hug, if Bowser pulled him down to the floor or if he himself leaped towards him in a panic. Either way, Luigi shakes and clings to the king in desperation.
Bowser lets him out of his cell not long after.
After 3 weeks, Luigi begins throwing things in fits of intense anger. Even though Bowser has allowed him to leave his cell and wander the castle, he doesn’t. Luigi mostly just stays in his room. If before he was depressed, now he was angry. He snaps at any servant that dares approach, he punches walls and screams into his pillow. Bowser is the only one to not get angry. When servants glare as he throws the meals they brought, when nearby guards yell as they restrain him, Bowser is calm and kind. That fact just makes Luigi all the more furious.
“Get out!” Luigi weakly throws a chair. Bowser stays still. “Why won’t you leave?!” Bowser stays still. Luigi lets out a scream of frustration and tears at his pillow. “Just get rid of me! Just hurt me already!” Bowser doesn’t. He just stays still, an unreadable expression on his face.
When Luigi tires himself out he falls to the floor and cries. He finds Bowser there to hold him once more. “Why aren’t you mad at me?”, Luigi chokes out through his tears. Bowser doesn’t respond.
After a month, Luigi finally starts going out. He walks in the gardens (quaint as they may be compared to those in the mushroom kingdom) and almost feels like himself again. He helps out in the kitchens and feels joy fill his being once more. When he’s introduced to Jr, he takes to him immediately and the two bond quickly. Luigi notices that he isn’t guarded anymore and when he’s by the palace gates, he’s not looked at with suspicion. The message is clear and the opportunity is there. Luigi doesn’t take it.
“Why don’t you leave?”, Bowser asks him one day. The two are sat in the royal library and Luigi is caught off guard by the question. Their conversation had been cheerful and lighthearted up until that point, about nothing in particular. It takes a moment for Luigi to answer but he finally responds with “Why would I?”
“Don’t you have friends you miss?”
“I don’t want to think about them…”
He thinks about Daisy, about his friends in the toad villages. He can’t bring himself to imagine going back to them, to a life outside of Bowser’s kingdom.
“Besides, where would I even go? Back to him?”
The way Luigi hisses the phrase out is enough to keep Bowser quiet. The koopa stares at nothing yet his attention is clearly still on Luigi.
“You’re the one who took care of me at my lowest. Not him.”
Luigi takes his hand with his own, shaking nervously.
“I don’t want to go back. I want to stay with you.”
The silence between the two stretches on endlessly.
“You wouldn’t abandon me, would you?”
Bowser looks away, his face red, but when Luigi feels him squeeze his hand, he knows he has his answer.
After 2 months, Luigi gives up on the idea of the mushroom kingdom ever coming to a peace with the Koopa Kingdom, at least not in his lifetime. Luigi finds the prejudices he believed about the residents of this kingdom to be nothing but a fabrication. Luigi can’t even recall why the two kingdoms hate each other so much. He only knows that things have always been this way and that’s how they’re destined to remain. Bowser speaks to him about his recent revelations about the unending conflict, about his failed attempts to find peace with Princess Peach. The distrust runs too deep, it seems.
“Is that why you kidnapped me then? Were you upset you had failed again?”, Luigi finds himself asking.
“Not really. But I’ve always kidnapped someone, right? It’s what I do, even if I’ve stopped being sure why.”, Bowser’s eyes were far away. “I guess I just wanted someone new to take.”, he chuckles.
Luigi finds himself smiling and laughing alongside him. “I’m glad you did.”, he speaks. Despite all that’s happened, despite being abandoned by his brother, Luigi can’t help but thank fate for bringing him to Bowser. He’s found someone who’s good for him, someone who cares for him, warts and all.
It’s too bad a red-capped hero slowly making his way toward Bowser’s castle has to ruin it all

Mario had been contemplating solutions in vain, sitting by himself forlornly after yet another grim and discouraging day of continuous failure when he registered the faint shuffling of timid steps nearby.
It was quite late and the man didn't exactly have the energy to feel surprised, but he curiously lifted his head nonetheless.
"Junior?" He wondered aloud, gazing worriedly at his provisory ally. "What's wrong?"
The young prince was rubbing his eyes, swaying idly on his feet and stubbornly staring at the ground. He didn't respond, but he didn't need to. His distress and need for company was plain to see.
Knowingly, Mario unfolded his legs and rested both hands on his knees, giving him a compassionate look.
"Couldn't sleep either, huh?"
Junior shrugged before joining him and leaning against his side, eyes downcast. There was no trace of mischief or deception to his demeanor. Only a defeated sort of acceptance.
Mario couldn't help but feel a genuine twinge of amazement at the vulnerable gesture.
"I'm... really sorry about your dad," he ventured, not quite daring to move.
Junior blinked wearily, but showed no other sign of acknowledgement. There was a brief moment of silence until Mario felt compelled to look at him once more.
"I don't know how long this might take, but I promise you we will find a way to turn him back to normal. I will not give up on you, or him. You have my word," he assured gently.
Junior merely curled in on himself more tightly as a response, appearing impossibly small compared to the gigantic beast his father had somehow become. His brows were furrowed in an expression the plumber had never seen before. A deep sadness mixed with a touch of remorsefulness, or perhaps resentment.
Mario was about to ask if he had somehow said something he shouldn't when Junior finally spoke.
"My Papa is wrong about you," he muttered, very quietly.
Before Mario could so much as blink, the small Koopa went on, shaking his head with a sniffle.
"You're not a coward and you're not stupid. You work hard and you never complain. You just want to help everyone, all the time. Even us."
His words, albeit said reluctantly, were spoken with uncharacteristic sincerity. Mario couldn't find it in himself to smile, so he carefully wrapped an arm around the prince's shell instead, giving his shoulder a comforting pat.
"I don't mind the insults. Not really," he amended softly, hoping that he somehow sounded more confident than he felt. "I guess that's just the way Bowser perceives me. It's okay."
"No, it's not," the young heir retorted. "He's very unfair towards you. He said some really mean and hurtful things, and-"
Junior stopped himself with a small whine, pawing at his face again. He was still averting his gaze, but the fragile tone of his voice betrayed his guilt.
"...I said mean things, too. I'm sorry."
For a few seconds, Mario could only stare mutely back at him, stunned by the unexpected apology. He then shifted closer, bringing his arm more securely around the Koopa in a side hug.
"Everybody makes mistakes," he murmured. "But everybody can change."
"I wish that was also true for my Papa," Junior mumbled, dejectedly.
At this, Mario hummed wistfully, his answer long believed and thoroughly considered.
"Maybe... all he needs is a bit of help."
-
When I first heard of Bowser's Fury a few months ago, all I knew about the plot was that Junior goes to seek Mario's help in the hopes of stopping his father's rampage. And words couldn't describe how much I LOVED the idea. Although this is an older drawing and my look for Junior has since changed a bit (the same way I eventually altered Bowser's design), this was the concept that later inspired the way I've decided to approach Mario and Junior's relationship in a broader sense - which means that there'll definitely be more with these two. :3
Mario being enduringly kind and winning foes over with nothing but his goodness of heart never fails to give me feels, and I want more of that. 💖

not to like wax poetic about the literary nuances of Black Fucking Butler but i feel i need to point out how insanely campy it is. oh okay cool the butler is throwing butter knives at people with guns and winning. we're battling undertaker's zombie army by starting a boy band (we actually got the idea from the ZOMBIES' boy band). theres a curry making competition and its so important it needs an entire volume and a continuing motif dedicated to it. the Grim Reaper Death Gods are all cornballs with gardening sheers. the contradiction. the unintended irony.
i think the manga is like. toeing the line of camp. like its silly yet takes itself so seriously but its not too silly. my immersion is not broken by the silliness. but the anime is uncharted levels of camp. what the Hell was going on with pluto. you're gonna look me in the eye and tell me the phantomhives own a fifty foot dog thing and no one has noticed. simply one hell of a deer. ice skating. theres opium in funtom candy. the queen of england is maybe a little girl. speaking of which, the city of london just burned down. yeah the whole thing. the fifty foot dog was there too.
it's so ridiculously out of left field and the fact that none of the characters seem to notice or care feels like being gaslit. camp so visceral it's causing psychic damage. i am constantly begging the narrative to break character just once and acknowledge its silliness but doing so would negate the lack of awareness that makes it camp. its dated and timeless. an absolute milestone in camp history.

My friend and I were discussing how we think Penumbra was going to end and I ended up doing a slight character analysis of Nureyev, so I might as well share with the class.
I can't help but think back to them in earlier seasons. Nureyev literally revealing his name to a lady he just met, them on the carte blanche, that one party episode at the beginning of season 3. They are so in love but like the tension right now, It's a lot. It's raw.
You know maybe he thinks he really is the worst for Juno. Like he sees Juno in all of his radiance, he has watched him go from brooding cop to this confident caring person. He watched character growth real time, but him, he can never change. All that time he spent with Juno he lied to himself that he was good enough to deserve this and that he could change, but when push came to shove he couldn't. And he didn't want to weigh Juno down with him. So he pushed him out of his life, returning to his roots leaving him a somber goodbye and the reason he couldn't stay (the notebook)
So Juno, this person he feels deserves so much better, he can't understand why he would give the world for him, because he doesn't think he deserves it. So he keeps pushing him away and maybe if he lies and lies and lies enough (the one thing he knows he is good at) he can finally push Juno away. Does he really want that ? No. But he believes that's what the right choice is, that's what Juno deserves. Someone or anyone better than him.
He kind of uses slip and bringing him back as an obstacle blocking him from like self improvement. Like he failed to keep slip safe. A constant reminder of how he failed. He doesn't want to lose someone else he loves. He is a foil for Juno who faced his past. Nureyev is still overwhelmed by it.
I kind of hope there is this blowout between the Juno and Nureyev so they can get all the emotions on the table. Nureyev needs to be open. I also hope slip comes back temporarily so Nureyev can realize that like slip doesn't blame him because I don't think he would. I genuinely think he would goof on him for spending so much time on him. Like fs appreciate it but also be like buddy go live your life.

trying to imagine what a Welcome Home ending would look like (which is extremely stupid lmao considering we dont know shit about jack yet), and it's just... huh.
i doubt it's going to take the "the puppets are turned into humans and they join the real world" route (and if it does, then cool! that'd be sick as fuck!), so what would a happy ending look like for them? would they get a little sanctuary to live freely in? is there a secret world of living puppets out there somewhere?
what if its a tragic ending? the puppets either are repurposed for a new show, or stripped of their Awareness, or become inanimate objects - normal puppets? what if they just straight up fade away?
or a bittersweet ending? they renew the show in order to stay alive and together, but they're forced to return to their old lives & routines? or it's ambiguous and we don't actually see what happens after a certain point - where the ending for the audience comes before the puppet's real endgame; it's not for us to see/know, they get an unobserved close to the story.
its simultaneously fascinating and distressing to think about.
