Have you read the Once Upon a Twist fairytale retellings? Any opinion on them?

the answer to this is actually embarrassing for me. so basically i kinda speed-ran reading every piece of Ever After High supplementary media all in one go in just a single day (or two i don’t exactly remember how long it took) which started with knocking out the diaries, followed by the shanon hale books including the secret diaries, then those school novels (i don’t remember what the official category they fall into is), then the junior novelizations of the specials, and finally i got to the once upon a twist books and by then i think i was probably burnt out and mostly just skim reading them. but i remember that faybelle was behind that shit like that’s a key detail in my brain. actually the books kinda hammer home my point about faybelle being one of the main girls because she did too much 😭😭 nah but yeah i plan to reread them in the future.

i find the concept to be neat and a fun little side-quest adventure for the characters. just fun filler stuff to mess around with.

so i've started writing a book series (prose, not webtoon/comic) and I'm probs gonna self publish (?) mainly bc i doubt there'd be a publisher or even audience interested in it but basically the premise is:

y'know, what i find really interesting (and I've talked to my friend about this) is the way Quint/Hooper and Hooper/Brody are shipped as like, seperate pairings, but i don't think i've ever seen a dedicated Quint/Brody thing??? the only times they're together is when it's a polygamous ship between the three of them, and i just,,, idk, i think that's silly. i think Brody and Quint deserve to hold hands. Quint is just so fuckin silly and Brody is a nice down to earth dude. They also get along really well? more well than i think people give them credit for. Quint teached him how to tie knots for fucks sake :(( they have so much potential to be domestic and i just wanted to bring attention to it

Quick timeskip non despair modos since she lives in my head rent free... He's genderfluid and uses both he and she pronouns in the future because shes. cool like that. I'm cool like that.

Just some quick notes (kinda for myself since I plan to make a full design for both her and Taka someday) uhhhh

The ginger colour is his actual natural hair colour! He dyed it all black when she was younger to match Daiya, but it was a shitty job and it washed out to a more brown colour. Eventually Mondo let the old colour grow out and that just became the look(tm) for a bit. ALSO ALSO. Her hair is naturally more wavy!! it's also very very frizzy if not taken proper care of.

Close to her last year at the academy when the gender creature kicked in (and just in general she started to feel less obligated to conform) (being around a bunch of queer people will do that), he switched from wearing the boy's blazer and tie to the girl's uniform with the little red ribbon (he kept the pants tho, I think she's always been more of a pants person.). Taka was super proud of him because it was the first time he'd ever BUTTONED UP A UNIFORM. However this would soon change because she adopted a sorta gyaru look (much to Junko's frustration because he ATE), and started wearing jumpers overtop of the blouse.

He avoided being feminine around the gang for a while, but ACTUALLY it ended up benefitting her when she started to, because in fights people would underestimate him and lower their guards around him. fuckinnnn serves them right I guess !!!!!

She is still ripped. Once ripped, forever ripped. BUT I also think that her body has still changed significantly, not just due to age but also generally eating much better. I don't think he OR Taka were eating enough tbh. Except where Mondo got better, Taka got worse for Non Despair plot reasons that would take a MILLION years to elaborate on

He wears a STUPID amount of cat print. It bled out from the boxers and it got all over the entire rest of his wardrobe. I think her fashion sense becomes downright GAUDY because its compensation for all the years he spent being emotionally constipated. He lived his entire childhood and early teens with the most ACKRID case of toxic masculinity. She deserves at least a LITTLE bit of obnoxious hot pink and leopard print seats in her car (he's just like me for real). But also I think he's still fairly gnc with outfits? Again. She's a pants guy.

OH YEAH HER CAR I think she still has the old motorcycle somewhere. But he has a new one. It's called HPBNB (Hot Pink Bitch Named Breakfast) and he drives that instead. Also he FINALLY got a car because he now understands the importance of travel storage. Despite the leopard seats it's still kind of a clunker, since a lot of money was sunk into. Y'know. the HPBNB.

He'll grow stubble on her chin sometimes, it just kinda depends on how she's feeling. shaving it isn't much of a sacrifice for her since it grows back at a stupid pace. She can afford to experiment.

i wanna find more books like little mushroom but whenever i google for recommendations similiar to it, google just gives me more danmei LIKE no the only thing most of these books have in common is they’re all gay and are chinese novels ….. i want post apocalyptic poetic storytelling with existentialism threaded through the pages giving me a slow aching feeling that i can’t forget about 😭😭😭

Okay, confession time... I've watched Red, White and Royal Blue three times already and I might have spent last Sunday frantically reading the book.

I just listened to This Is How You Lose the Time War in a sitting from like 8 pm to 2am and it was so good and visceral I felt like I was going insane

hmmm idk if you like sci-fi and/or if you've ever tried becky chambers (who i would recommend regardless) but to be taught, if fortunate is a charming little sci-fi novella that restored my faith in humanity in the most touchingly beautiful way

for great audiobooks i will NOT stop screaming about the locked tomb series by tamsyn muir, the narration is EXQUISITE like these are not short books nor are they straightforward but i'm not a big re-reader yet as you can see from my list, i read/listened to that series 3 times in one year (twice in a month) because they're just That Good

i guess that's my attitude towards all media i enjoy really lol. i would rather have something with high highs and dismal lows than something that's just fine the whole way through

i'll easily look past a lot of problems in stuff if it does something uniquely enjoyable. and that does include actual problematic elements too. i'm aware of them, i will warn for them if asked, i'll often vocally criticize them myself if i feel like posting critical stuff, but it won't stop me from loving something that otherwise caters to me

granted i think this is true of basically everyone to some extent, but i think everyone has a line where if it's crossed it actually ruins something they would otherwise love. and my line is very far in the distance compared to most people's i think. i'm pretty good at focusing on what really appeals to me and rolling my eyes at what doesn't. as long as something about it really appeals to me.
