AHHHH BOOKS OF OURS HAVE BEEN ADDED TO THE QUEER LIBERATION LIBRARY ( @queerliblib ) I AM SO EXCITED.
Tumblr media
If you don't know what the QLL is this is a great chance to find out!! They're an online library of hand-curated queer e-books with really awesome range (non-fiction! fiction! many genres and disciplines!), and they keep growing! Anyone in the US can become a member FOR FREE. From their webpage: Queer Liberation Library (QLL) is fighting to build a vibrant, flourishing queer future by connecting LGBTQ+ people with literature, information, and resources that celebrate the unique and empowering diversity of our community.
They're also a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, and completely funded by donations (we donate a pittance monthly, I wish we could do more).
I HIGHLY recommend you go to their webpage here to find out more, and you can follow their tumblr (tagged above) too!
And if you didn't know - all our published anthologies to-date are available through multiple library apps, including Libby (if selected by the library) and Hoopla (should be available to all libraries with Hoopla subscriptions). So even if you aren't a member of QLL, you might want to check your local library e-book system to see if you can read our books. Titles potentially available at your library include our anthologies Add Magic to Taste, She Wears the Midnight Crown, He Bears the Cape of Stars, Aim For The Heart: Queer Fanworks Inspired by Alexandre Dumas's "The Three Musketeers" and And Seek (Not) to Alter Me: Queer Fanworks Inspired by Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing," and our stand-alone titles To Drive the Hundred Miles by Alec J. Marsh and Many Drops Make a Stream by Adrian Harley. There's more on the way, too, so be on the lookout.

(ID in alt)
Hello Tumblr! I am posting this on behalf of the Queer Liberation Library, who don't yet have a Tumblr, but have promised me they're working on it. Some of you may remember them from the Twitter Poll I was involved in a few months ago where Hunger Pangs: True Love Bites beat multiple award-winning, trad-pub queer authors with a hefty 69% (nice).
For those of you unaware, the Queer Liberation Library, or QLL, is an organization fighting to build a vibrant, flourishing queer future by connecting LGBTQ+ people with literature, information, and resources that celebrate the unique and empowering diversity of our community.
And today, June 12th, 2023, they launched their fundraiser to try and reach 15k so that they can start purchasing digital licensing for queer media and hopefully open their digital doors to library patrons across the US in 2023 with as many queer and trans books as possible.
You can check out their newly redesigned website here:
(If you are in an unsafe space and need to exit the webpage quickly, there is a quick exit bar at the top that redirects to a weather page. When I spoke to them about their web design they were also open to accessibility suggestions and are potentially working on a dark mode for those of us who need it.)
If you know me, you know I am unequivocally pro-library, both as a reader and a queer writer. But with the current rise of homophobia, transphobia, and the proposed ban on books taking hold in certain States, the importance of having protected access queer books cannot be over-emphasized enough.
The QLL aims to protect that access, aiming to provide FREE access to queer and trans media (ebook and audio) to patrons regardless of location within the United States.
They are funded entirely through regular donations from their supporters and their now annual Pride fundraiser, where they hope to afford the cost of not just library books but also maintaining their web presence and staff.
I cannot emphasize enough how much this project is a labor of love for everyone involved and its importance.
And just to clarify, I am not involved in any way beyond raising awareness. When QLL reached out and asked me to retweet their fundraiser tweets, I readily agreed and offered to post about it on Tumblr because I believe in their mission and the world they are trying to build.
One where queer and trans books can't be banned or taken off of shelves because of bigotry and hatred.
If you would like to donate to the cause, you can do so here:
They've already surpassed their first 2k, and it'd be absolutely wonderful if we could help them reach their next milestone. And if you can't give, please consider signal boosting this post.

My brain is melted and coming out of my ears. I am beyond overwhelmed. This is such an incredible thing. A thing that so many people have reached out and helped us with. Every tiny bit of help mattered. I just… woof. This is so much.
Guys. @queerliblib is funded. This is real. We’re gonna have a real, honest to gosh, library.
You all did it. You did it for us. 💜
Z.
P.S. A super, super special shout-out to @thebibliosphere who went SO far above and beyond to get the word out and mobilize people. Holy moly. Thank you, Joy. You are a wonder.

I fucking love Libby so much. ADHD makes it hard to make Going To The Library a regular routine (hard to remember to return books on time, hard to remember to just Go and Browse), and poverty makes it impossible to collect and read everything I want.
anyways thanks to Libby and my local library card plus a Queer Liberation Library card I've been able to read 79 books since August 2023 and still going strong, AND my "to read" tag STILL has nearly 400 titles in it.
So this post will be a running list of the books I read from Aug23-Aug24:
"Mort," Terry Pratchett
"The Fifth Season," N.K. Jemison
"Celtic Gods and Heroes," Marie-Louise Sjoestedt
"A Very Brief Introduction: The Celts," Barry Cunliff
"Princess Princess Ever After," K. O'Niell
"Gentleman Jack," Angela Steidele
"Hatchet," Gary Paulson
"Equal Rites," Terry Pratchett
"The Religion of the Ancient Celts," J. A. MacCulloch
"The Light Fantastic," Terry Pratchett
"The Giver," Lois Lowry
"The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes," Suzanne Collins
"The Sandman (Vol 2)," Neil Gaiman
"Fourth Wing," Rebecca Yaros
"The Color of Magic," Terry Pratchett
"The Sandman (Vol 1)," Neil Gaiman
"American Gods," Neil Gaiman
"The Song of Achilles," Madeline Miller
"The Handmaid's Tale," Margaret Atwood
"Good Omens," Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett
"Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal Edition," Naoko Takeuchi (1-10)
"The Invasion," K. A. Applegate
"Dragon Ball," Akira Toriyama (1&2)
"Dragon Ball Z," Akira Toriyama (1&2)
"The Eight," Katherine Neville
"Behemoth," Scott Westerfield

Starlight's Weekly Finds 3/20-3/27
Hi! My name is Starlight and I want to push myself more to post more of what I like on my account, so what better way to do that then to throw all my niche interests in a post to encourage others to talk about them too! This newsletter will consists of a read, a music wrap, and a movie of the week. As this goes, I'll add more or less depending. thanks for tuning in this week and I hope you come back for the next.
Read of The Month
This week I'd finally gotten around to getting a digital library card from @queerliblib ! The Queer Liberation Library is a free digital library the is entirely comprised of books created by LGBT+ BIPOC authors. They have such a ride variety of audiobooks and scanned copies that I feel there's something for everyone. To apply for a library card is free, however please be mindful it may be a bit of a wait for your library card depending on when you apply. I was lucky and received mine within like a few days of applying. All info to learn more and to apply will be on the @queerliblib socials.

I'm currently reading Between Perfect and Real by Ray Stoeve. It follows a trans guy named Dean who is recently cast as a major male lead in a school play. The story follows how Dean navigates his transition while also juggling graduating school and making it to an acting school in New York. I'm about halfway through and I highly recommend.

Music Wrap of the Week.
Okay so this section alone will probably turn into it's own individual post at some point considering I finally am getting into KPOP. I'm focusing on girl groups right now and I've listened to ALOT this week. Here's only a few of my favorites from the week.
QWER: Secret Diary
youtube
Okay, I give. This first song is technically a band as opposed to a girl group. However, their music is so good I have to let it slide. Debuting on October 18 2023, QWER is a South Korean girl band consisting of 4 members(shown below). QWER is such an interesting Kpop group to me with the members pulling inspo and influence from American bands like Slipknot and Red Hot Chilli Peppers. They bring something a little different that I really love.

Pictured left to right: Magenta(24), Hina(23), Chodan(25), and Siyeon(23).
XG: Winter Without You
youtube
The next on the list came as a pleasent surprise, because I didn't know I had heard a song from them before. You may know this 7 member group from their song Shooting Star, which is a great song, but just a little played out after the sped up version went viral on TikTok. Winter Without You leans more into the RNB aspect of the group's concept, and it makes me feel like Christmas should be here again. If you like modern holiday songs or were a big fan of Ariana Grande's album Christmas and Chill, this song was made for you.
Tumblr media
Pictured left to right from top row to bottom: MAYA(18), Hinata(21), Juria(19), Harvey(21), Cocona(18), Jurin(21), and Chisa(22).
Loossemble- Real World
youtube
LOOSSEMBLE is a group that caught my eye from their single Sensitive, but Real World I feel is an underrated song on their debut album. Debuting September 15, 2023 LOOSEMBLE consists of 5 members(PICTURED BELOW). This is a new subdivision of the girl group LOONA, with some members also being from LOONA 1/3 respectively. Just like with my other recs this week, the whole debut album is a bop tbh. Honorable mention for Strawberry Soda track as well. I haven't really gotten in my LOONA bag just yet, but if it's anything like LOOSSEMBLE, I'm fully sat.
Tumblr media
PICTURED LEFT TO RIGHT: Go Won(23) ,Hyeju(22),Hyunjin(23) ,VIVI(27), and Yeojin(21).
Movie of the Week : TMNT (2007 Film)
Tumblr media
To say I'm a TMNT fanatic would be an understatment. No matter what gen TMNT is in, I can always find something to cherish about every form of content that been pumped out ofer the years. More praise should be given to this film as a whole. Yes at points the animation of the turltes can be a little.... jarring to say the least.
However, the storyline is so good I can overlook the jumpscare that is having to look at them during certain scenes. This is one of this first instances on screen prior to the Michael Bay films that I felt really allowed Leo to be more than just a leader to his brothers.
Leonardo in most depictions up until recent years was always shown as the levelheaded leader who rarely has a genuine spat with his team and if he does, it usually has to do with the stress from being a leader and not neccesarily with having to be a brother.
This film follows the turtles after Leo returns from what was supposed to be a few months' mission that turned into a year and him trying to recollect his team. You have Mickey and Donnie who are elated the Leo is home, while Raph carries on as though nothing has changed, almost mad that Leo had the gull to come back.
This boils over into a moving fight scene between Raph and Leo, but the difference from this onscreen arguments between the two than the ones at the time were that they allowed Leo to argue, even physically fight Raph but not as his leader. It was a his genuine brother. They allow Leo to get fed up and tired of Raph's attitude enough to give into the preconceived notion that Raph thinks Leo has about him. If you haven't seen it, I would make it a point to. Especially for this scene alone. Def a 5/5 in my book.
And that's a wrap! Thank you so much for reading my first put together blog post!

Something the QLL sent me: "We are currently hard at work building our inaugural collection, and we would love to get your input. Do you have five minutes to spare to fill out our Collection Development survey? Additionally, it would be super helpful if you could send it along to people you think might be interested in QLL, so that we can get as broad a range of answers as possible."

instead of releasing a remake of american psycho I believe they should release an alternate american psycho 2 focusing on evelyn that follows the same timeline as the original film but from her perspective. similarly to patrick, evelyn craves both social acceptance by and social superiority over her peers, specifically those in the art world. evelyn has an obsession with curating a painting collection intended to rival museums. she surrounds herself with people she believes will further her status as a woman of arts and culture, but who she also believes will be easy enough to control and manipulate, and her relationship with patrick is largely fabricated to further her own social standing as well - which is why she cannot allow him to leave her and tarnish her reputation/what she has been working for. evelyn herself does not kill anybody for the majority of the film, instead opting for psychological manipulation and mild bodily harm when her pawns step out of line. similarly to patrick in the original, we also see her begin to lose control as she becomes more and more aware of her actual place in society rather than her perceived place in society, realizing that she is limited in her power and ultimately forgettable when compared to her peers. this angers her and desperation sets in as her mask of poise and tastefulness slips away with patrick's proposed breakup being her final straw. at the film's end we see a disheveled evelyn, complete with smeared mascara and unkempt hair, reaching for a knife and rushing over to kill patrick herself in a last ditch attempt to regain her power over him. whether she succeeds or not is left ambiguous but in the final scene we see her fixing her makeup in a compact and as she reaches up to wipe excess lipstick off the corner of her lip we see a red stain on the side of her finger that looks more like blood than it does lipstick.

If ace and arophobes really are coming back to tumblr then I'm not apologizing for how nasty I'll be to them btw. I've got no plans to seek them or their rhetoric out but if it happens organically then I'mma tear them bitches a new one and I don't care if it leads to them hatebombing me with death and rape threats again like they did when I was 14 and 17 <3 theres 10 million problems out there in the world that need solving but theoretical cishet men 'infiltrating' the queer community ain't one of them
