when i started shipping it: Before I'd even finished my Death Note rewatch honestly—I only binge a max of six episodes a day so I didn't even remember what Mikami looked like when I started reading fics that mentioned him. Deadass I thought he had a moustache, I was so convinced in my old memories before I saw him on screen again 😭 BUT YES I read TrashKing's Composure before I finished the series again and found their dynamic there intriguing :3

my thoughts: They just bring a sort of Riza & Roy, Barty & Tom, Crim & Alessio, Aro & Jane vibe to the table that I really enjoy ✨ The Mastermind™ and their feral attack dog—Light says "Bark" and Mikami goes "At what tone, pitch, and volume; poodle or rottweiler?" and that's just SO much to play with >:3 IT'S ABOUT THE SERVITUDE 🤌🤌 THE IMAGE OF LIGHT SITTING CLEAN AND ARROGANT IN HIS THRONE AND MIKAMI STANDING PROUD BESIDE HIM COVERED IN BLOOD 😩🙏 Mikami is Light's favorite little pet and Light is Mikami's everything.

what makes me happy about them: They are soooo unwell your honor 💕 Two freak ass nerds both thinking they're more righteous than they are. Mikami could probably snap Light in half over his knee (dude is JACKED) but he won't 🥰 They're what I need when I want Light pampered and spoiled and getting everything he wants.

what makes me sad about them: THEIR DEATHS. DEAR GOD CANON DID THEM SO DIRTY, MIKAMI ESPECIALLY 😭😭 There is no dignity in death INDEED

things done in fanfic that annoy me: Honestly? (Don't hate me for this one Moon (⁠๑⁠•⁠﹏⁠•)) I don't like how often L is brought up or mentioned in Mikalight fics. Like Mikami is L's replacement in Light's heart, like he sees L in Mikami—they're literally nothing alike 😭 They both have black hair but if that's the only thing you need to be L's replacement then Matsuda would make the cut. Besides; if I open a Mikalight fic, I want the focus to be on Mikami and Light :') If I wanted Lawlight I'd have gone to the Lawlight tag instead, you know?

things i look for in fic: Mikami being obsessed and Light viscerally enjoying his obsession. That's it :3 I want Mikami to be the devoted pursuer and Light to be the deity deigning to touch him out of amusement and curiosity. I like Light in control and Mikami being super horny about it ✨

who I'd be comfortable with the ending up with: For Light, I like him with pretty much everyone lol (have that man running from his harem 24/7), though L and Ryuk are definitely at the top of the list ;3 For Mikami.... it's harder, because I only like him with other people in situations where Light isn't a factor at all, such as they've never met or Light just doesn't exist. Save for maybe Near, because I think captor/captive is always a fun trope 💫 But with Light there (and specifically in Kira Wins AUs) I tend to like him with either Matsuda or Misa, because I can see both of those relationships turning antagonistic >:3 Mikalight is pretty much the only DN ship I have that doesn't have SOME form of chafe to it, so anything else would need to be made interesting for me to ship it.

my happily ever after for them: Kira wins, Mikami uses his eyes and tenacity to become Light's right hand man, and then they spend the rest of time being righteously evil with Light directing and Mikami wielding the scythe—which he is then reward for by Light allowing him to use his mouth and hands and sometimes cock to make his Kami-sama feel good 😌💖

who is big spoon/little spoon: TOUGH QUESTION. Because if it's in a No Death Note AU and they were both,,,normaler, I'd say Mikami. But in any other circumstance I'd say Light, if only because Mikami kneeling between his legs while Light works is practically the same thing as being the little spoon when you think about it :3

what is their favorite nonsexual activity: Not to get super soft all of a sudden, but probably talking. Mikami is canonically very intelligent as well, even if I think his smarts come more from diligent study than any born-in ability like Light's—they've probably read a lot of the same books and I imagine them sitting in comfortable quiet reading together and occasionally looking up to speak their thoughts about the book aloud, which leads them into calm but intriguing discussions. When they're not being murderous psychos, I think they're both actually quite calm and content people, so things like going for a morning run, drinking coffee together, and reading in the same room are definitely their favorite moments otherwise 💗

4. Favorite Color: Ultramarine blue & turquoise

5. Currently Consuming: Is this a food question. Rn I have a can of Coke and some dill pickle flavor potato chips. If y'all watch closely I'll take one and eat it

6. First Ship: I spent a lot of time watching Dramione slideshows (not really AMVs just straight up slideshows of stolen Deviantart shit set to like Diary of Jane by Breaking Benjamin) as a youth but I think my first ship I actually cared about was Sirius/Lupin.

7. Relationship Status: Engaged :))

8. Last Movie: LMFAO I recently visited my little sister as I just mentioned so it's literally that new Adam Sandler movie You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah. Which was cute ig. I was charmed by the nonbinary b'nai mitzvah at the beginning of the movie and scandalized by that little girl with the lip fillers making out with a boy in the ark at her shul. And Sarah Squirm was fun in it as like the wannabe-hip queer rabbi lol.

9. Currently working on: Job hunting mostly in my day-to-day life. But also my fanfiction author AU! Here's something I wrote last night just for fun.

Thoughts on Mikalight?

I enjoy it~. They have the potential to be really cute together. I haven’t fully explored it, but I have a real appreciation for it.

While I do like it where Teru’s a devoted servant that has earned Light’s favor and eventually works his way to becoming a trusted advisor of sorts, I really like imagining them together outside of a Kira-related context. Teru would still treat Light as if the sun shines out of his ass. The effort he’d put into altering his strict schedule to fit Light into his life would hopefully be noticed and appreciated. In an odd twist, Light would be the one who’d try to get Teru to loosen up from time to time, like remembering to celebrate holidays together, at least at first. He’d still admire his work ethic and dedication to his job, but he wouldn’t mind seeing that passion directed in other directions (I.e. Light). I think it’d be a bit of a struggle for Teru to get out of his habits to make time for someone else unless it’s already been scheduled ahead of time since we weren’t shown him having much of a social life outside of speaking with coworkers.

I have the funny image of Teru having a rigid written schedule for things like “surprise” meals, date nights, and love making where Light just sighs and says, “lol okay.” However, Teru would still be very attentive to Light’s mood (he’s not easy to ignore, lol). After all, he does canonically deviate from his norm on his own whenever he thinks Kira is limited or at risk. I’m sure he’d get better at reading Light’s “will” with time~.

I still worry that Light would eventually become bored with Teru because of his initial rigid nature. Reliable and loyal (unless suddenly disillusioned), but a little too… routine? That he wouldn’t give Teru a chance. Maybe it would depend on when and how they meet. Sometime when Light’s older and matures a bit, they meet because their careers are related to law enforcement, and gain a mutual admiration that grows into affection. Sounds ideal. They’d probably have some communication problems at first, and I’d wish them only the best~.

This may be only scratching the surface and I’m probably giving these characters too much credit, but here’s some Mikalight thoughts. ❤️

Unpopular opinion: Mikalight is one of the only ships that seem like they could actually work out (in a non dn AU at least). I feel like they could give each other what the other wanted and could have a healthy and collaborative relationship. At least after some time/in the long term.

I would love to know what they would think of each other if they met under different circumstances, haha.

I find it pretty easy to picture that they would, at least eventually, like and respect each other. And if Mikami would work through some of his issues, they could probably have a stable relationship, yeah.

They seem on the same wave length, and I agree that's one of the ships that would make the most sense. With enough imagination, you could make almost everything work, but Mikalight doesn't require much imagination, in my opinion. ...At least not the part where they would become interested in each other. If it were healthy would depend on a lot of things, but I do think it could work out.

26: Hugs. I think once they're finally together and all those feelings are out and they're comfortable, hugs and words of affirmation would be huge. And I don’t think either of them will be able to hold back that well once the barriers of "I don't know my feelings" and "I don't know if this is allowed" are up.

32: I think early on in the relationship they would probably just find a reason to remove themselves and then later apologize assuming they themselves were the one in the wrong, but as time goes on I think they'd both try to "win" the argument. Hopefully one of them will eventually decide to be the bigger person and get the argument on track to "Hey you know what, I love you and this topic doesn't matter anyways" or "Let's take a breather on this and calm down so we can work this out with level heads". That being said I think it's likely enough they'd end up starting a competition to resolve the argument and they get so into it they forgot why they were arguing in the first place.

39: Like in this list or in my other kh otps? In this list (by process of elimination) I'll have to say NearlyMellodraMattic just because at least they'd have less problems with them. I said less though, not zero. Of my other kh otps though I'd say uhhhhhh KaiNamiXi? Idk I think they'd have a time.

23: Mikami overthinks the most but only marginally. And that slight bit is because he overthinks about everything Light does INCLUDING whether he's properly pleasing Kira-sama and doing his will.

30: For Mikami? Anywhere. Maybe lips or forehead edges out the rest just a little but every time he's glad to be granted this chance at all. For Light I think the forehead would be his favorite. It doubles as a soft place for kissing and puts him in a position where he can have Mikami below him (most likely kneeling) and tilt up his chin. What can I say, he likes having someone look up at him.

40: Light. They're both in deep, okay, but Mikami is the most likely to try and fail to hide back a smile, or the moment Light makes it clear that smiling is okay he would just do it all the time. He loves everything about Light and I think it would be easy for Light to make him smile just by...smiling himself or really even just being him. Unfortunately Light needs to have control over every facet of himself, so I think aside from certain moments where he fails, he either fights to hold it back or purposely slips on a smile.

5: Oh boy. So Near I think would be quality time. Specifically in a parallel play type way most times. He likes existing in the same space while he and one of the others is doing something separate (for example, if he is building a model while Matt is playing a game, or if he sits and watches while Mello and Matt play a game together). Occasionally (you gotta have them spoons man) he'll try to get one of them to join him so he can do those things with them. I'm going to nail Matt with physical touch (or at the very least, existing as much in your space as he can where it's still comfortable). So I think that might mean throwing his arms around their shoulders and making excuses to touch them, or (moreso for Near) sitting where body parts such as arms or hands or feet or shoulders (for example) are just barely touching. For Mello I think it would be a mixture of being present in the same, sticking around, and gift giving. So the parallel play type, sticking in the same room or space, but also getting his partners stuff. It may not always seem like it's a friendly gift or followed up with nice language, but everywhere he goes he would see things his partners might like or need and will share some of those things with them (like making mention that he heard that Matt's favorite manga is getting an anime adaptation or buying Near a model kit he doesn't have that's really intricate)

11: Matt. Mello is like a cat, you always wanna decide whether it's a good idea to touch him, and he has different levels of tolerance or capacity for handling it for different people. Near I think has a complicated relationship to it and would prefer initiating the touching or giving an okay for it. I think the previous answer for them answers why I'd say Matt.

16: They all stay up too late, let's be real, but I think in order of who would take this role more often it would be 1. Mello 2. Matt and 3. Near. Near cares about them but he understands that trying to be the authority on this would make him hypocritical. He believes that it's up to his partners to keep up with a sleep schedule or to choose not to. Matt is often the one staying up too late, but I can see him checking the time or coming into a room while it's late and being like "come on it's late". I can also see him doing this if he wants to sleep in the same bed as either one of them. As for Mello, he's definitely a hypocrite. I'd think it's like a 50/50 shot. Either he'd say wouldn't care and (when asked) would say Near and Matt are adults and can handle themselves, or he'd tell everyone to go to bed often (when he realizes how late it is) and only concede in a situation in which he needs them to stay up with him also. So like a 50/50 shot of doing what Near does but louder about it, or very much caring about his partner's sleep schedule and making sure they eventually sleep (getting more frustrated as they don't).

Hi, and thanks for the brave request, and I know I said this before, but this one was my favorite so far! OCD is something I struggle with, and though this is from Light's pov, it's still heavily based on my own experiences. Therefore, I'm very nervous about posting this right now, but I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I enjoyed working on it.

[Around the end, there is a tw for self-harm as a compulsion, but I didn't go into detail so it's rather just implied.]

(Mikami has always been exceptionally clever about guarding his problems, but it didn't mean that Yagami Light was blind.)

Light pressed on the cold handle, but the bedroom door didn't open. Fidgeting with his fingers, he searched to turn the key in the lock. He found nothing.

"Mikami, are you in there?" he raised his voice with a smile on his face, he knew exactly what was supposed to come next. Faint footsteps, as the prosecutor rushes to the door, a mumbled, quick apology, and pink blush on his face as he opens the door for him.

It was automatic, at this point. But no sound came from inside, and the door stayed stubbornly closed.

"Mikami, are you in there?" he was louder this time and looked down at the lock. The key had to be inside the room if it wasn't there.

"Yes," Mikami's answer was quiet and emotionless, but no footsteps followed the words.

"Well, will you let me in, then? I left a book in there, I won't be a bother," he declared. A hazy uneasiness settled into his stomach, like the appearance of a sudden group of clouds on a sunny day.

"No. I'm…working. I'm sorry but I won't let you in now."

Light waited. A minute and then another went by before he spoke again.

"Are you okay?"

"Yes, but I need some time," he never heard Mikami speaking like this, but he always had his moments, and Light wouldn't disrespect them if it's unnecessary. So he shrugged it off.

But it all started with that closed bedroom door, or at least that's what Light told himself. It was a lot easier to think he saw it happen all along than to think that he could have noticed the signs earlier.

"Where are you going? It can't be six yet" Light groaned, and instinctively pulled himself closer to Mikami, closing his arms around his waist. When he didn't let him go from the tight hug, Mikami began to explain.

"It's half-past five. I think I require some extra time before I get to work. I want to check some things before I leave," he whispered but laid his head back onto Light's shoulder, who let out a pleased sigh. Mikami's soft hair brushed against his neck.

"If it's so important, I can do it for you," he said, he didn't need to be always so punctual, after all. The smooth voice didn't seem to reassure the other.

"No, I must do it myself, but thank you," Light let him sit up, but clenched his fingers around his wrist.

"You don't have to double-check. Just a few more minutes," he insisted, but Mikami gently peeled his fingers off his wrist and left with an apologetic look in his eyes.

Light trusted him.

It was Mikami who didn't trust himself. It quickly became his new routine, and in two months the set number on the digital clock turned to quarter past five and then five o'clock.

He was an aloof man. A creature of habit.

One of the reasons he stayed was because Light never asked, but confronted anyways when it was needed.

Light knew that something wasn't right when Mikami bought the gloves. It was a black pair, leather, but still very thin, and clearly designed to last years for its owner.

"Those are for the subway," he explained, though Light said a word because he didn't want to know, he wanted to ignore.

One day, Mikami came home and the gloves stayed on until he went to bed. After that, something moved into the apartment with them. Its presence was subtle, but it struck in the silent moments.

It thickly surrounded the concealer Mikami started using, to cover the shadows under his eyes, the hand soap so frequently emptied and replaced with a new one that it seemed like that one bottle lasted forever. Its aura (sickening, sterile…) surrounded the bedroom door the man closed behind him for an hour every day, now. It was a thick veil in Mikami's eyes, one that Light couldn't get behind.

When Light woke up at six and didn't find Mikami laying next to him, he wasn't surprised. He was usually in the kitchen by this time, freeing up the bathroom for him in the morning. As he washed his face, it was silent all around the apartment.

Light found it on the bathroom sink, shiny and naturalistic. The almost unused traditional razor lay there, taken apart, and one of the blades was missing. Light didn't wait to think about it. He turned and ran out to the kitchen, to find Mikami at the table, in a white shirt, unharmed, but distant. He almost didn't notice as Light walked up to him, but when he did, he nodded and pulled his lips into something that looked more like a frown than a smile.

And the veil in his eyes was clearer than ever.

"How did you sleep?" Light asked as he approached him, but the answer was obvious. Mikami didn't sleep at all. And he didn't notice. He picked up the small blade from the kitchen table, examined it, and put it back down. It was clean.

"I'm going back to bed for a few more minutes. Follow me," Light whispered. As an answer, the man mouthed something that seemed a lot like "I will be late from work", but he still followed.

It took minutes until Mikami laid his head onto the blanket, and pressed his shaking, naked hands to his face. His body tensed up as Light touched him. He ran through the dry, red, and bruised skin on his hands with his fingertips, up his lower arm.

It didn't take long to find a half-healed cut, and Light pulled away.

"Please, I can't go yet," Mikami failed to keep his voice calm, despite the fact the other didn't intend to get up. Light didn't have to ask, in the next moment, the words poured out of Mikami's mouth like on command.

"I don't want you to leave if I'm not here, but I don't want to hurt you, and…" he took in a sharp breath, and looked up at him. The veil in his eyes fell. On the other side of it, Light only saw terror and torture.

"I would appreciate that."

"You're the only clean thing in this world that is mine."

"What if I ask you to stay today? With me," Light murmured and leaned in to button back the sleeve of the other's shirt. He thought about getting up to bring a sleeping pill, but he looked at Mikami again and decided against it.

Light looked at the other, hands clenched in a fist.

"Can I hold your hand?" He asked, and Mikami let out a painful laugh but nodded. He watched with a curious look in his eyes, as Light made his first, uncertain steps in his rigid world, woven with rituals, with thoughts that burned him like fire during the day.

"I don't want to drag you into a spider web" Mikami whispered and squeezed his hand. Light hushed him.

"You didn't drag me, I volunteered."

You asked, and I hope with all my heart that I delivered. I was able to write these 1200 words in such a short tima, and yet I grew attached to this. So attached, that I might upload it onto ao3 in the future.

Hey Luna hope you're doing okay, you probably have answered this before but do you have any Death Note merch? I'm curious what you have, in my head I can only imagine you collecting every Mikami related item ever

These pictures are YEARS OLD because my DN shelf is not tidy in the slightest and I really need to get on that.

I also have a bunch of plushies strewn around the apartment, some L figures hidden away in random cupboards, a bunch of posters, the new Nendoroid Light that wasn't out yet when I took those pics...

Collecting Mikami items is like... tragically easy, THERE ARE NOT A LOT OF THEM. I am still lacking some MikaLight doujin that I know exist out in the world though. (The books in the right of the pics are doujinshi and not official, of course.)

Also the wara ningyo is cheap Hell Girl merch instead but it's aesthetically fitting for the DN shelf because of LABB.

I think Kiyomi is one of the only characters I can actually picture Mikami vibing with, though things weren't always peachy keen whenever Kira feels got in the way

Canonically very odd and entertaining... Mikalight's suggestive phone calls and intense long-distance mind-reading of each other is almost as funny as Lawlight is to me, and so is the incredibly embarrassing and dramatic only time they ever meet each other in person at the Yellowbox Warehouse

I’d consider the relationship:

Healthy | Awkward | Abusive | Doesn’t work properly | They’d never get together

Light would definitely have to make all the first moves, but they could possibly have a pretty good thing together in another world

General Opinion: wish I could get into it more because I do think it's a good ship, but I just can't help but miss L and Lawlight after contemplating it for a bit

It would probably be fairly undramatic, but Light's always either just being like "haha she's so vain and gullible!" in his own mind or not even thinking about Kiyomi at all. So poor Kiyomi is very much on her own with about 99% of the emotional investment, it seems

15. What’s the weirdest fandom you’ve ever written for?

Oh boy. This is bringing back some wild memories. I don’t know if this counts, but I was a diehard k-pop fan back in 2017-2019 (or something like that.)

I know it doesn’t sound bad, but consider this: I was a diehard kpop fan with wattpad. The amount of shit I saw there traumatized me. 💀💀 And lets not talk about my horrible attempts at writing smut. I stopped reading/writing those kinds of fanfics now, and I’m more of a casual listener to kpop. If someone brought up how I acted back in 2017-2019 I would literally jump off a cliff. THATS HOW BAD IT WAS LMAOO

I’m so glad I grew out of that…but I hope that answers your question!

21. Favorite pairing to write for? Platonic or romantic.

OKAY SO! I don’t exactly have a favorite, but if I were to choose it would be between lawlight/mikalight/mikavanni. There’s so many scenarios that would actually work for these three. And their dynamics(?) are pretty interesting, too. You have a serial killer x detective, god x worshipper (is that even the correct term LMAO) and another serial killer x detective (sorta) but one is stalking the other. 💀

For platonic, I love me some Mikami/Kiyomi! They’re bros in canon, despite Mikami literally murdering her lol.

26. Is there anything you’ve wanted to write, but you’ve been too scared to try?

OH MY GOD! I’m so glad you asked that. Theres too many, but I’ll list the ones I love the most.

A Death Note Demigod AU. I read most of the Percy Jackson books, and those books are literally my life and my soul. If you don’t know Percy Jackson, it’s basically a story that revolves around the children of human x greek god couples and their quests. I would love to write a fanfic about this, BUT, the amount of research I’d have to do makes me cry. At this point, I’ll just plagiarize Rick Riordans work and replace all the names lmao.

A Death Note AU, of course, but this time they have powers! I wrote a fanfic on this and posted it on AO3 before. I think it was called, “Powers of the 4.” And the main characters were Team Kira. I never finished it, and looking back, it was so bad I deleted it LMAO. I really didnt check over my own work.

Anyways, I’m talking about powers like telekinesis, cryokinesis (ice powers), pyrokinesis (fire) and etc. I think it’s so fun to play around with concepts like this.

A Death Note AU, but this time in the Attack on Titan universe. It sounds so fun until you get into all the details of everything. It’s gonna be a “what realistic thing would Light Yagami say in this situation” and I’m pretty bad at sticking to character, so thats gonna be a challenge.

And no, I’m not talking about plopping in the DN characters with the AOT characters, I’m talking about the Attack on Titan story with the DN characters. I’m not gonna be stealing the already canon Titan powers and slapping them onto a random character from DN, I’ll make my own Titan powers. Which is gonna be a challenge LMAO! Out of all of the ideas listed, this one will probably never be started on. It intimidates me bruh 😭😭😭This one will just stay in my day dreams

a MikaLight fanfic by @kiranatrix and @my-one-true-l for @mikalightweek [Day 4- Devotion]

Summary: When Mikami realizes he’s being followed by an FBI agent, he informs Kiyomi right away. Light meets Mikami alone in the confessional of a decrepit church to hear the details for himself and requests a test of the man’s loyalty.

Rating: T for mild gore and innuendo

The young woman sat alone, quietly avoiding the eyes of the other passengers, but it wasn’t enough to stave off the unwanted attention from the man who had set his sights on her. There was no escaping the unwanted advances in the confines of the train. It would take nothing more than a few swiftly written strokes to bring the perpetrator to his rightful death, but Teru Mikami couldn’t do that under the circumstances. Instead, the Death Note remained in the safety of his briefcase as he exited the train and vanished into the crowd, a casual glance over his shoulder confirmed what he had suspected for days…

He was being followed. He was good with faces, and when the same one recurred in the most unlikely of places, this time sitting across him on the train, he decided it was time to pay attention to the name hovering just above the man’s head.

Stephen Loud. That would be easy enough to remember until he was home and could find the answers he already knew. Coincidences happen, but the more likely scenario was he was suspected to have connections to Kira and if that was the case…Kami was in danger.

As he approached his apartment, a nonchalant scan of his surrounding put him at ease. Mr. Loud was nowhere in the immediate vicinity, though Teru was not about to dismiss that which could be out of his sight.

He wasted no time using his good name and contacts to discover that he was being pursued by none other than an FBI agent. The blood drained from his face as it all sunk in. He had little concern for his own fate. It was Kami he worried for. There was no way of knowing how long he had been being tailed nor could he be certain of the extent he had been investigated.

Keeping this to himself would not do. He had to warn Kira, even if it meant falling out of his good graces.

Takada. I need to talk to her.

Looking up her number was unnecessary. He had memorized his only lifeline to Kira the day he was chosen. With trembling fingers, he dialed and waited impatiently for her to answer.

Kiyomi Takada was in the back of her limousine, heading to the television studio, when her phone rang in her purse. It’s HIS ringtone. She quickly leaned forward and pressed the button to bring up the dark-tinted glass (and soundproof) partition between her and the driver, then immediately answered the call. “Kiyomi here.” There was a hint of annoyance in her voice-- she’d specifically told Mikami not to call her during the day. It was difficult enough to secure complete privacy at night. However, she was in luck in this instance-- her driver was loyal to Kira. Still, she whispered, “This better be an emergency.”

“I wouldn’t call otherwise.” Teru had a million thoughts swarming his mind and only a split second to sift through them. “I’m being followed.”

Kiyomi’s breath caught, and she nearly broke her ladylike facade and swore. She shifted the cell phone to perch between her cheek and her shoulder as she rummaged in her purse for pen and paper. “Followed by who and for how long? I need their name and where you’ve been seen.” She clicked the pen and poised it above the paper. “I’ll have to tell him right away.”

Teru drew a deep breath before he spoke. “An FBI agent by the name of Stephen Loud. I noticed him a few days ago, mostly around my gym and a few times outside of court, but today he sat across from me on the train ride home, so I can only assume he knows where I live as well.”

“FBI!” Kiyomi’s pen trembled ink onto the paper until she pressed it down firmly, trying to ground herself. This was news of the worst kind-- the FBI was working with the SPK here in Japan, and if they had sussed out that Mikami was working with Kira, Light would be very unhappy with that exposure. Mikami’s value had been in his anonymity. And Mikami has Kira’s power! “This is...unexpected. Did you happen to get a picture of him? Or find one you can send to me? I can pass that information on and we’ll take care of it.” She took a deep breath and carefully wrote down the details that Mikami had relayed.

Teru could feel Kiyomi’s displeasure on every word she spoke, certain it would only worsen with what he was about to say. “No, I didn’t, nor was there a photograph of him accompanying his file. Careful measures have been taken to conceal his face. It would seem I’m the only one who knows what he looks like.”

“I see.” Kiyomi frowned and wrote ‘no picture’ on the notepad, underlining it angrily. “I suppose that’s what we should expect from the FBI, but it makes things difficult.” She glanced out the window, seeing that she was almost at the TV station. “I’ll speak to him and call you back. Stay by the phone, alright?” She didn’t wait for an answer before hanging up and immediately calling Light on his secure line. Shit shit shit… He picked up on the sixth ring, which meant he’d probably had to duck out of something with his team.

“Yes?” Light was on his guard-- it was very unusual that Kiyomi would call him rather than the reverse. He didn’t have long either, just the duration of a normal bathroom break. “You know how I feel about personal calls at work, love.”

“I know, but I just spoke with the caterer, dear.” Kiyomi knew better than to ever use any of their real names. Even if the phone lines were ‘secure,’ Light didn’t trust it when he was with the Task Force. “He’s run into a snag on our order.”

Light stayed quiet for a moment but understood her meaning perfectly fine. Mikami was in some kind of trouble, and it was bad enough for Kiyomi to call him right away instead of waiting for one of their usual meetings. “Oh? Surely it’s nothing that can’t be resolved. Send me the invoice tonight.” Send me their name and face.

Kiyomi sighed and said, “Seems like the invoice is missing some items. Only the caterer knows it.” She drummed her long red nails on the armrest nervously. “Secret recipe.”

Hmm. Light knew that meant that either the name or a picture of the person’s face was missing, and since Mikami had shinigami eyes, it was likely the face. “Remind me, dear, was this a rush order?” Is this an emergency?

“Yes. I’d really hate to call off this party.”

So, something that can’t be ignored. “I understand. Perhaps I should meet with the caterer myself and work out the details? I’ll text you the place. 11 o’clock?”

Kiyomi knew that wasn’t really a question, it was an order. Light wanted to meet Mikami and hear about this for himself. “Of course. I’ll set it up for 11.” A dial tone hung in the air as soon as she agreed. She stared down at her phone and waited for the text.

Send the caterer to Saint Joseph’s. He’ll need to confess the recipe.

Kiyomi deleted the text right away, then called Mikami back.

Teru paced his living room, eyes fixed on the phone he clutched in his hand. He wasn’t one to drink, but tonight it was harder to fight the lure of his liquor cabinet, sparse in contents as it may be. Kira had caused him more restless nights than he would ever admit, but this was an entirely new kind of torment. He had failed his god, inadvertent as it may have been. Intention didn’t matter and had no place in his shame.

Each second that passed equaled two until the phone rang, answering it with a simple rushed response. “Yes?”

“He wants to meet with you. Alone.” Kiyomi hoped Light knew what he was doing, but she certainly wasn’t going to question Kira’s decision. “There’s an old church in the warehouse district, down by the docks. Saint Joseph’s. It’s open all night and the priest is half-blind, drunk most nights. No one will see you.” She knew the place well and had met Light there a few times herself. “Go into the confessional and wait for him. 11 o’clock.” She paused for a moment and added softly, “Make absolutely sure you’re not followed. He’s trusting your discretion.”

He wants to meet with you alone.

The words sent a shiver down Teru’s spine. He swallowed hard at the thought. Meeting Kami. Never had he dared to dream of being fortunate enough to have such an honor, and though the circumstances weren’t ideal, Teru couldn’t deny that he was thrilled at the notion. Even if this meeting could mean the end of his life, everything up to now would have been worth it to be in Kami’s presence. “I can give you my assurances. I will not be followed.”

Disappointing Kami again was out of the question.

“Good luck.” Kiyomi hung up the phone and texted Light, ‘caterer booked.’ She’d be nervous for the rest of the day but there was also relief-- it was out of her hands. If Light needed something, he’d ask. I just hope I’m still as useful after he meets Mikami. Walking into the television studio to again act as Kira’s spokesperson, she knew she was, for now.

Thank you for the asks and honestly great questions!! I have a feeling this most is going to be a bit long, so hopefully I can get my thoughts and everything out in a way that’s easy to keep up with!

Also spoiler warning for those who haven’t finished the series!

3. What do you think about Light?

I honestly have SO many mixed feelings about him, like it’s hard to just be like ‘oh i hate him’ or ‘oh I love him’ because it just isn’t that simple for me personally, which that itself is a great sign of a character since you have to think about that sort of thing with them. Right off the bat though, I’d like to say that I think Light as a character is phenomenal. He takes the character-type of what many would consider as the ‘perfect guy’ for the main character but twists it in a way that makes the reader/viewer question the protagonist their supposed to be rooting for.

I also think of Manga!Light and Anime!Light as different people to an extent, as in the manga you watch a seemingly ‘normal’ guy who has issues with the world deal with the sudden power that was thrown on him. I talked about it before in my last ask post, but the scene after Light killed his first person after testing out is a great way to express how he feels, and is one of the few times we really see Light show THAT much emotion. He shows regret and guilt, thinking himself as a murderer and you can tell how it affected him. Anime!Light you don’t get that, and instead he seemed to just take on the task of being Kira and god of the new world without much else thought. I definitely prefer M!Light in comparison to A!Light to say the least, so I’m going to focus a bit more on the M!Light side of things.

I personally found myself wanting to have hope for Light, even though I knew that he wasn’t going to get better but instead worse over time, and honestly it’s probably better story wise to keep him as the ‘bad guy’ who stays bad instead of trying to pull a redemption arc out of no where or something. I have a feeling I’m beginning to ramble, so I’m going to try to wrap this up.

I have a love-hate relationship with Light, because even though I don’t agree with his actions and the tactics he uses to get the ‘perfect world’ he wants, and I do find his thinking flawed and find him very arrogant the more power/ego Kira gains over the world as the story goes on. Yet I find him as a character in general just fascinating. I was definitely more on L’s side of things and found myself enjoying a majority of the scenes where people simple put Light in his place and treat him like a dude with a god complex rather than what he wants/expects. There’s just a lot of thoughts I have about him, but yeah it’s just a love-hate sort of thing for me when it comes to Light.

10. Do you ship any characters?

I usually find myself being a bit of a multishipper when it comes to most fandoms, it just depends on the source material and the characters obviously. I definitely can enjoy a lot of the ships when it comes to the fandom, but even if I don’t like a pairing I do my best to remain pretty respectful about it.

One thing to note is that I can’t really find myself shipping L with anyone in the series to be honest, like I can find myself enjoying his relationship dynamics of characters but with my own interpretations and DR stuff, It’s hard to view him with someone else romantically.

Some ships I like/don’t mind though (especially when it comes to au stuff as most of these in canon probably wouldn’t work out lol): Matt x Mello, Mikalight, Rem x Misa ig? (more like the concept is sweet i think even though in canon Misa treats her pretty badly and Rem said she doesn’t think of her that way), uhhh. My brain is pulling a blank right now but these are the main ones that come to mind.

Some platonic pairings I enjoy (as there are a lot more of these for me): Matt + Mello, Mello + Near, Matsuda + Misa, Honestly all the task force have really interesting dynamics with one another, L + Watari (obviously in a father/parent way, I just like seeing their interactions), Ryuk + Light, Ryuk + Misa, L + Matsuda’s relationship is honestly pretty funny to me and honestly L’s dynamics with the task force is also interesting as well.

I think that’s it when it comes to shipping stuff atm

24. Any headcanons you’d like to share?

Oh! I feel like I have a couple but at the moment my mind is pulling a blank for some reason. Some head canons that do come to mind though deal with my Death Note DRs in some way but they can also be interpreted with the actual series itself, so hopefully this is good enough! Usually I do better with a certain prompt of some sort though for future references though!

I’ve seen a post a bit ago about Matt and Mello being roommates of some sort at Wammy House and they find themselves in that roommate mentality still when they do room together, and honestly I agree so much with that.

When Mello leave the Wammy House I see him not contacting Matt or anyone from Wammy House as he turns his focus on his side of the Kira Case, even if apart of him misses them and what he grew up around. Yet he pushes through because he’s stubborn and wants to do whatever he can on his own with the Mafia without involving someone like Matt, probably for his safety. After the explosion though when he has no one on his side, I think that’s when he realizes there’s only one other person he can truly trust and rely on and that’s when he contacts Matt to help him on the case.

Not really a headcanon as the author himself mentioned that the rivalry between Mello and Near was one-sided and that Near actually liked Mello, I do see both boys sometimes wondering what it would have been like if they didn’t have that rivalry and became friends instead. I honestly see Mello thinking that more towards the end of the case and after the explosion, but at that point he’s probably thinking it’s too late to even pursue a friendship like that with him.

I like to think that at Wammy House, Matt didn’t really understand Mello’s rivalry with Near and at times questioned him about it at first but he was pretty supportive

He didn’t have anything against Near though and was pretty indifferent on the whole thing personally, but if it made Mello happy and helped him achieve a goal he had no reason to deny.

Matt in general in general is someone that gives the vibes of not caring about much, but if you’re close to him he is literally SO loyal?? Like if someone close to him has an issue, even if he might make a comment or remark, he is always there to back them up.

I like to think that over time Light actually enjoys Ryuk’s presence, kind of like a sense of some sort of comfort that he isn’t alone of some sort? Like at first he might have been annoyed and still gets annoyed whenever he acts annoying and distracts him from work, but also I think he doesn’t like hate his company. Probably would rather be around him than Misa unfortunately </3

I think that L and Chief Yagami had a pretty good friendship, or perhaps not friendship but i’m not sure what to call it atm. Like I think L respected him a lot and Soichiro was the same towards him, and I think at times if they decided not to talk about the Kira case it’s usually pretty good for the most part.

It’s not really a headcanon but Matsuda trying his best to get some positive attention for things he does in the case is funny and kinda sweet. Most of the time L probably ignores his antics and doesn’t really feed into it, but there’s like one or two times where he actually does

It’s probably very small, probably something along the lines of “Good job.” or something but Matsuda feels so happy that he even acknowledged him like that and didn’t call him stupid for once. Definitely was a good boost in his mood

I find the thought of Light and Ryuk playing video games early on when he first gets the notebook charming in an almost funny way. Like Light probably either was talked into it by the shinigami or was like ‘screw it, I have nothing else to do atm’ and Ryuk is just happy he can actually do something and not just watch him working

Light is definitely competitive in games though, like he’ll probably try to act like it wouldn’t matter but like most things with him, but it did lmao

I find the thought of the wammy kids doing things to mess with/annoy Roger so entertaining. Like I feel bad for him, but if I were asked to assist in the pranks or antics I probably would just for his reaction alone

25. Ramble on about whatever you’d like

Thank you for this one! I usually feel a little guilty whenever I ramble on about things in general, but the fact that some people are interested in my thoughts on things is so sweet!

At the moment though I’m honestly not too sure what to ramble about as there’s a lot on my mind and it’s hard to pick one thing and honestly it can be a bit hard to go through all my thoughts at times.

But! One thing I will always stand behind that ya’ll have probably seen countless of times so far is that the Wammy Boys deserved better and I will always say it if necessary tbh. Speaking of wammy house though, that comes to mind is that I wish I could learn more about it at times, yet I also enjoy the mystery of it in a way. It’s something I’d be so down to learn more about, but if not I’d be pretty okay with that outcome. Plus just leaves things for fans to interpret in their own ways if they want, and that’s something I definitely enjoy when it comes to the fandom is how they take something vague and turn it into so much more.

Also speaking of the fandom I’m surprised yet so thankful/grateful for is that the death note fandom is still going on here. It was such a relief seeing that I wasn’t alone in my hyperfixions and thoughts, and seeing all the talent in the art, writing, etc, is just amazing and something I look forward to a lot in all honesty. I’m also just so thankful for the people that take time out of their day to look at my blog in general. You like, reblog, or follow me? I literally want to be your best friend and if I wasn’t so nervous about starting conversations with ya’ll I definitely would have messaged a couple of ya’ll a while ago. Until then I hope you just read this and see me on your blogs and hope my reactions and comments is enough until I get less nervous lmao.

One last thing before i close the blog off is that I love L with my full heart and I adore Matt and Mello so very much. My favorite lads <3
