Hundreds of Jewish anti-war demonstrators have been arrested during a Passover seder that doubled as a protest in New York, as they shut down a major thoroughfare to pray for a ceasefire and urge the Senate majority leader, Chuck Schumer, to end US military aid to Israel.

The 300 or so arrests took place on Tuesday night at Grand Army Plaza, on the doorstep of Schumer’s Brooklyn residence, where thousands of mostly Jewish New Yorkers gathered for the seder, a ritual that marked the second night of the holiday celebrated as a festival of freedom by Jews worldwide.

The seder came just before the US Senate resoundingly passed a military package that includes $26bn for Israel.

light and L's first sexual experience together but absolutely no sex happens whatsoever. it's just L smoking a cigarette out on the balcony and light's tired and angry and it's just been another shit day of chasing baseless leads that end up going nowhere, and his father kept getting on his nerves and matsuda couldn't focus for the life of him, and he's just at the end of his rope and he asks L for a cigarette. and L says something about "corrupting the chief's son" and light is like oh shut up just give me one. and L reaches into his pack and scoots closer and hands it to light and light puts it in his mouth thinking that's the end of their interaction, L will just give him the lighter but then L leans in, too close to be comfortable, close enough that he can smell the tobacco on L's lips and L lights his cigarette just like that, and it's just Too Much Too Quickly. light takes in a quick breath and the smoke burns as it enters his lungs and he starts coughing like crazy. and L thinks it's very endearing, seeing soichiro's son do something so unconventional. and light scoots away and is like, god these suck, why do you even smoke these, this is terrible. and L is like, you asked for a light. are you just going to waste a cigarette? and light is like no, because he's always up for a challenge, and he wants to prove something to L, even if he can't tell what he's proving, what he's trying to say. and they just sit there smoking together and L finishes first and crushes the butt beneath his feet (light can't help but wonder if it hurts) and then he leans in close to light again and takes his hand and guides light's cigarette to his lips and they're so close again and light tries to say its just the nicotine making him lightheaded but there's something else to it. some other element he can't name. L blows smoke in light's face because he knows it'll piss him off and light curses him out and coughs like a bitch but his face is warm and his insides stir and he just doesn't know what's got him feeling like this. maybe it's the nicotine. light swears he'll never smoke again and L just laughs quietly and light wonders why it sends a shiver up his spine. maybe it's just cold outside. nothing more. they go inside. light can't stop thinking about his cigarette between L's lips. he doesn't stop thinking about it for a while.
