Not to vague post, and this is especially not anything against the person who brought this to my mind, but I feel the need to make sure people know this since I post a LOT about how I like Sonadow and don't wanna attract the wrong crowds-

I'm NOT okay with Sonadow depictions that are abusive. I'm not okay with ANY abusive ships being seen as cute or romantic. That's a huge thing for me, and it's super triggering to see people romanticize abuse and shit.

HOWEVER. I do not view the rivalry aspect to them as inherently "abusive" so long as it's depicted in a way that's like. Mutual. They enjoy it. They enjoy competing and battling and shit. Because I totally love that idea for them, and even think it's a tad odd when they're shown as /only/ being super affectionate, since their rivalry is sort of intrinsic to their relationship. They're basically perfect for competing with one another, and I've even shown in my Razor AU that I tend to go with the idea that, similarly to the cosmic rule of Sonic and Tails being brothers, Sonic and Shadow are like. Destined to be rivals. Literally star-crossed rivals. They are somewhat of equals in their abilities, they can learn one anothers' powers too, and they both have weird natural Chaos energy. They bounce off one another perfectly emotionally and competitively. THAT'S a huge part to their relationship! (I have no actual problems with the more affectionate depictions of them, I just generally like to show their competitions AS their affection at times. Their fights are like dances. I think that's a wonderfully interesting concept for a ship!)

I will say that their dynamic is very much one of those "it works in fiction, but it wouldn't work super well in reality". Like, their traits are too extreme for reality by default, and their dynamic would, in the real world, simply not work out well since they'd be humans and deal with Human Issues. The fact of the matter is that there are things that CAN BE FINE IN FICTION, but not in reality (do NOT spin this to mean i'm okay with actual proshipper-type shit. That's NOT what im talking about. What i'm talking about is more like.... Like, pairings that would be unstable irl due to lack of environmental control and how human psychology works but can work in fiction because of expanded possibilities that already exist in fiction, such as characters who are assassins but aren't immediately bad guys and shit).

Which is kinda why I got so shocked by some of the tags on AO3 Sonadow fics, because I sorta neglected to consider that there are people who DO depict it as abusive.

Another note is that I like to stick to an older canon for Shadow, but I often like to use details from more modern media for him. Which is probably why I don't see their rivalry and the possibilities for them to have a relationship more than just friends (whether it be qpr or romantic, i dont really care since i'm an enjoyer of both) as really bad. Because I don't really consider the more recent times where they've battled and Shadow's been more "nasty" to him as how I base things on (excluding the Twitter Takeovers since those go off-script and Kirk does his damn best to make Shadow actually more like who he truly is there, so I see those as positive depictions of their banter).

Maybe this post wasn't needed, maybe it could've been assumed by how I talk about them, however it was weighing on my mind to make sure people understand how I feel about this whole topic, because I do need to recognize that there ARE very problematic and gross depictions of the ship and I do NOT support them. So when I reblog art of the guys fighting and shit, just do know that this is how I tend to view it, I'm not at all trying to seem like I'm romanticizing abusive behaviors or anything, I just like the different ways they could be interpreted as rivals and/or as partners

OH ABSOLUTELY theyd be fun!! im really really open to most ships (yeah, even the toxic ones, even the problematic ones, etc etc, its fiction, rezero is ripe with a Ton of complicated character dynamics, i'll find the relationship interesting if theres narrative depth/potential behind it - just to make that clear :o !! i obviously do not condone that irl of course).

but yeah anyway!! yes definitely i think elsa/reinhard would be fun. you could explore it in all sorts of ways - i mean, elsa's the vampire here, reinhard's a monster for. various reasons. theres also other details like how. um. well reinhard's Immortal, so that means Infinite Guts for elsa!! and i think reinhard would be happy to at least make Someone happy T^TT he'd be like "i can just give the bowel hunter my guts over and over again and she'll be nice to me and not kill anyone else also unless theyre very very bad people? good deal :) new friend!!" or something LMAO. dudes starved for company and uh you could interpret elsas reaction in different ways. i feel like i dont know her that much atm though but i think she'd be amused yeah. i mean. infinite guts.... she gets the sword saint..... they can fight each other whenever also :)... and also meili likes the guy (she literally has a sword saint doll) so. its win win. elsa could be going "i could make him A Bit worse :)" and reinhard could be going "i could fix her :) ooh new little sister too!!" or something lajdflsjf. sorry im mentioning meili a lot when this is an elsa/reinhard ask but shes important okay. elsa-meili are a package deal and meili would have an Interesting dynamic with reinhard.

on a more serious note though... reinhard is also the best person to have if you want capella/"mother" to be destroyed. which probably factors into meili's fixation on reinhard. and also all three of them have this shared motif in their lives of Lack of Control. between elsa's backstory, meili's backstory, reinhard's backstory, it's. Something. alright. a lot of trauma to go around!! they can bond over that T^T and i think elsa and meili would have. Interesting Reactions with reinhard... the pristine powerful hero is actually powerless? thats. sad. and pathetic. and sad. but hey..... he can join the dark side too. and help us maybe... if that makes sense hah. im just spitballing ideas here pfft.

but yeah in all seriousness itd be interesting T^T maybe they could make their own weird uncanny dysfunctional trio together hah. they all got. Weird Stuff going on because they all have issues with intimacy also for Various Reasons and in Various Different Ways, so thatd be interesting to explore too!! i think theyd make each other simultaneously better and worse!! and also reinhard is. 1000% giving up those guts to elsa i dont see any other way this is going. depending on where you wanna take this though she might want like. 8 - What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise? oh god........where do i even start.....lets start with the "potential man" shit. megumi did not even want to be a sorcerer he didn't want anything to do with jujutsu tech or gojo or curses or anything like that, he literally only did it to keep tsumiki away from the zen'in clan so yeah sometimes he does half-ass and sell himself short but if you even took three seconds to think about his character instead of stupid hypothetical 1v1s you would realize why, and when he has something to protect (tsumiki, yuuji) he absolutely puts his 110%. i dont know why people see mahoraga as a cop out move when, other than one situation in particular, every time he's tried using it seems pretty reasonable to me. im not gonna get into manga spoilers here but if any of these people calling him weak or useless or whatever the fuck they're saying about him these days went through even a day of his life, they would absolutely be feeling the same way, let alone going through megumi's entire life. too many people forget that megumi is a literal child who has been through a shit ton of trauma since he was a toddler so yeah i think his reaction to what's going on is completely justified. also please stop shipping him with sukuna 😀

ok the post about what metric people use to determine what fics to read is still living in my head. we all know that the ACTUAL counts rely extremely heavily on the popularity of the fandom & pairing so ill skip on that. the rest of it is what's really interesting anyway

ill just use my own fics as an example of what im talking about when i say that the only consistent are posting date and word count. i wont bore anyone with the other 83 fics so ill just show you my top 5 fics for each metric for fun:

first is word count, which is extremely straightforward. this is what i use to figure out what fics i want to read but apparently this is extremely uncommon lol

here's hits, which are more than anything a function of how long the fic has been around... with some obvious exceptions. i have found that the more controversial fics will have the highest hit counts pretty much no matter what lol. the second fic on this is about a student/teacher relationship and isn't on the other top 5s even though people often read it judging by the hits LOL, they are just silent readers!

next is kudos! aside from conviction (a very old and somewhat popular longfic i wrote), they are pretty much fluff lol. well the last one is smut but it's popular smut because it was one of the first pwps for the pairing that i wrote it for regardless of if it's actually good or not

comments are another metric i see people use often. keep in mind the COMMENTS and COMMENT THREADS are two totally different things. i dont personally respond to comments bc i find it a little overwhelming lol but the fics here are quite different from the other ones right?

these are generally the fics that people had a lot to say about because they felt that they were extremely special fics, compared to the ones that get kudos often which are usually fluff and pwp

bookmarks! now the bookmarks in stats are different from the bookmarks in searches - those don't include private bookmarks, but in your user stats, the counts DO include the private ones. while some other metrics favor longfics or oneshots (ESPECIALLY when you start bringing ratios in), the bookmarks tab is quite consistent between the two. just keep in mind that the public bookmarks are VERY different from the private ones sometimes, especially with pwp.

last and usually least is the subscriptions filter. you can only see these as the author so no one sorts reading material with it, but for the authors, it's pretty much just a function of fandom/ship popularity and how long it takes between updates/how long it's been updating TBH. just because a fic has few subs doesn't mean people aren't reading it!

okay that's everything i wanted to say i think :3 im glad i had the chance to make this post lol because it does annoy me when people use certain metrics to decide what's "good" even though each fic excels in different places!

I dont understand why ppl want to get spoilers (that anon worrying abt aegon cheating) for fics or things in general, like, just read on and all your questions will get answered..

You told anon that abby is the only person he truly deeply loved, and yeah its obvious when reading it, but I could also imagine aegon falling in love along the way with other people he engaged with sexually, doesn’t mean he doesn’t love abby still. Maybe the love for the others wasn’t as deep or true, but just bc he loves abby doesn’t mean he cant fall in love (at least a little) with someone else too.

People like spoilers because they're hungry for answers. Why do you think there's so much speculation about season two of house of the dragon? And the anon who asked for the heartbreak spoiler, I didn't mind giving because I don't consider it a spoiler. I say right in the story summary that Abby and Aegon will have a Happy Ending, because in this fandom, there are a lot of stories that follow the 'rocks fall and everyone dies' plot of the book. This story isn't. I have heard of people who have been blindsided by poorly tagged stories where they thought they were getting a happy ship ending only to have the canon character like, cheat and then brutalize the OC pairing they were in. I have no problem whatsoever answering questions like this.

As the author, I'm asking you, the reader, to invest your time and emotions into the story I'm crafting. I want you to care. I want you to come along the ride with me! But this is also a fun hobby, and I know if I were a reader and then had the rug pulled out from under me, I wouldn't feel great. This is fic. This is free. This isn't a book I bought. So no, I don't mind reassuring people that Abby and Aegon are going to be okay, and that the current arc that anon was going into wasn't going to go into infidelity. If there was cheating in the story, I absolutely would tag it that way because that's an appropriate trigger. Whatever Aegon is doing during the particular arc, I do not consider it infidelity. Abby and Aegon are betrothed by outside force, but they aren't committed to each other. They're operating on that 'assumption feeling'. And there's a difference.

I think people are so capable of falling in love more than once in their lives. The idea of 'the one soulmate' is romantic as a trope, but it doesn't always resonate, you know?

I have to tease you here, Anon, because you just chided the other anon for asking for spoilers, and then asked me for a spoiler here! But I will say I already answered this question in the fic! In chapter 5:

And the love he had/thought he had for this person doesn't take away from his depth of feeling for Abby! No one person can be everything, and that's a thesis statement within the story. Aegon doesn't think he can be with Abby, so he was actively trying to move on from her!

I feel like the biggest issue with modern homestuck fanon is that whether people liked it or not, and how if its concidered dubiously canon or not, hs^2 and epiloge characterization has bled into fanon. the majory of hs fans hate hs^2 (and for good reason), yet Jane hate has gone up, people are being sooo unnecessarily weird about davejadekat (/all of its pairings) and bi characters in general, rosemary is deemed boring (killkillkillkill-), people don't see jake as a person will feelings, karkat?? kanaya?? trolls?? never heard of them, unless you mean those.. things we keep around to fuel the humans plots sometimes and act as the occasional therapist. Also... Dirk...

THESE ARE ALL THINGS FROM HS^2, THE COMIC YOU HATE!!! WHY ARE YOU LETTING IT LIVE RENT FREE IN YOUR BRAIN??

karkat is probably one of if the my most favorite character, I think hes interesting as hell!!! but alot of what makes him intersting comes from how he fits against troll society/against other trolls imo??? his mutation, his dancestory/him being the litteral second coming of christ, the significance of his secretly caring personality in a violent child soldier evil murder military state and what it says about it as a whole with his role as the alternian equivalent of the 'everyman', his familial relationship with kanayah, his unique relationship with romance, etc, these things all mean jack shit to humans, and shine best around other trolls, yet all he is now is daves side bitch, i feel fanon has sorta moved away from hs and into earthC, noone really cares about alternia anymore as trolls are just seen as humans but grey. even comander!karkat focuses more on dave angst than karkat, a minority amongst his people, leading a revolution a'la signless style??

idk i just feel like hes just been watered down into the easily digestible 'angry character' who is sad sometimes for,,, resons. i feel like this disconnect from alternia in general just sort takes away depth from beta troll characters in general?? even metorstuck content now feels shallow and disconnected??

And what sucks is that i like davekat, and people are right about them being a great pairing for working out their issues together , but at the same time i miss litteraly ever other karkat ship, i miss the days of the karkat x beta trolls harem and being able to use quadrants for him without being deemed problematic for not adheering to queer identity of a race that dosent exist and dosent effect anyone because real life has no oppressive poly romance system, and im just sick if this ship reducing the characters down to a pinterest black and red asthetic moodboard when they are so much more than that.

I say this with no disrespect at all, in fact I am enthralled: I didn’t even know asks could be this long!! Thank you for your input, I agree with you! And don’t worry- you were quite clearly comprehendible! You covered a lot of ground already, but allow me just a moment to commentate on specific points…

The bleeding of HS^2/Epilogues content/reinterpretations into the larger sphere of full-fandom fanon has been a slow, insidious process. I think the fact that most people have not taken the time to reread Homestuck proper, be it due to lack of time/energy or fear of its length, has really added to this- because a gradually slipping grip on what is and is not canon simply doesn’t pair well with rather disagreeable dubiously canon sequel content having come out fairly recently. The thing about DubCanon is that, whether you or I like it or not, people are going to apply those particular reinterpretations of the characters to what their idea of canon is, and- typically- they will fail to remember that the changes made to the characters were changes in the first place. Rather large ones, at that. This is not only how and why people are out here thinking that Jane was not only legitimate Troll-Racist in Homestuck, but also how and why they get the idea that she’s always been that way.

I’m not sure if my memory is failing me or not, but as far as I remember, while biphobia has always been a problem in the fandom- baffling, considering most characters are textually bi- it really does seem like it’s at an all-time high right now. People are adamantly refusing the idea that some characters are bisexual. Dave and Karkat are the ones I see the most regularly erased, but Jake is also pretty high up there.

The current drought of Alternia content is so sad. Earth C is great, don’t get me wrong- it’s the planet I most regularly work with/develop because of Sovereignstuck- but people oft throw out the concept of conflict when using it. Especially, like, social/political conflict. Earth C is basically synonymous with Flawless Utopia, at this point. It’s a petty complaint, sure, but I don’t like it. :(

I absolutely despise how trolls have been turned into gray humans with horns! They’re bug aliens!! Bug aliens!!! That’s so much cooler than gray humans with horns!! Fuck!!

I kinda disagree that a change of setting takes away from the Beta Trolls as characters- I think the issue isn’t the fact that there’s a setting change, it’s that the writers aren’t really willing to work with the fact that, uh… You know… The Beta Trolls have vastly different socializations and come from a vastly different cultural background than the Beta/Alpha Kids? You could very easily find conflict and development with the setting change. You’d just have to keep in mind the way that their upbringing would affect them and how they’d respond to their new environment. Old habits die hard, you know? It’s a whole new planet, a whole new myriad of cultures, and whole new societies with whole new rules and whole new customs. There’s so much intrigue you could get with that fact alone!!

I like DaveKat, too. It’s fall from grace is astounding, and it’s honestly made me like them less, which is a shame because it was pretty important to me when I was younger, and Dave and Karkat used to be top favorite characters of mine. They’re basically just… Blank slate characters now, made to slap whichever miscellaneous scenario or random romance trope onto, without any regard to what their characters are or what made their dynamic good in the first place.

It’s funny- I don’t think the Quadrant Queerness was made into a huge deal in canon or anything? At least, I don’t quite remember it being a federal fucking issue. Yeah, Karkat’s Quadrant struggles were there, but I don’t think it was really… Associated with being “Troll Gay” or anything. I’m at least 80% sure that was just something the fandom latched onto and blew out of proportion- I see more talk about Karkat being “Pan-Quadrant,” I believe the term was, than I see content of any other part of his character arc? Crying shame, too- considering, again, as you said, he’s the fucking Second Coming of Jegus.

A BROTP I have with said character: roll cake and roguefort living in the same apartment complex and becoming kind of friends through that is something that started in a roleplay server of mine and ive kind of been obsessed with the idea since. i really like the idea of rogue and roll being friends, not super close but roll invites rogue to dinner sometimes just as a nice thing to do as sort-of neighbors and hes completely oblivious to rogues personal life but they get along well enough

A NOTP I have with said character: this may be a bold one to say and i dont really *hate* it as much as i just find it *boring* but i kind of dont care much for almondfort. i understand the appeal, serious straightlaced detective with smug thief, i understand why people like it, and i understand why its the most popular pairing for the both of them (except maybe beaten by almondlatte w almond but im not even sure about that) but at the same time it feels like the most...boring approach to their dynamic? to be blunt? at least in the way ive seen it portrayed most of the time.

i dont mean this to be mean to anyone who likes the pairing bc i know there are people in my following who do like them; those are just my own personal thoughts. ive always found a more interesting reading of their dynamic to be related a bit to how i generally view almond; someone who tends to accidentally come off as patronizing to anyone younger than him and whos instincts as a father can genuienly sometimes get in the way of his detective work when it comes to certain criminals. and then take roguefort, someone who comes from a somewhat troubled family background, and that almond knows that they come from a somewhat troubled background, and well almond starts having a sort of pitying, 'i know they can do better' mentality that i feel roguefort would be aware of and would honestly probably drive them to act out more which causes almonds pitying to get stronger and well its an awful cycle. went on a bit of a tangeant there, but i think that sort of weird strained dynamic can just be a lot more fun to explore imo. no drag to anyone who does like them as a ship but those are just my thoughts

I want you to know that it is currently 7.40am and I happily gave up any remaining hope of sleep for the day when I got the notification for Dogma/Agen. Having read it, my eyes burn, my body feels like it might keel over any minute and I have to go to work in an hour. Zero regrets.

The fic is AMAZING. Like, I feel that way about all the stories I read from you, but this one. This one hit so many points. The pairing. They are so good, so perfect for each other. The parallels between how they see the world and how others see them make me want to cry.

Dogma deserves all the hugs, warm blankets, sunrises and Sex. Also: all the warm gazes go to him please. Him being so raw from being seen as a person - as somone worth saving, ad not just a clone, but as him, Dogma, with all the things people dont like about him being seen but not being condemned for it, but rather accepted, treasured even! Just. There are no words.

The smut was beautiful, it was all so raw, so desperate. Them being on the run but taking the time for it, because that intimacy is what is needed, so it is what they do.... perfect.

Dogma hating and blaming the jedi hurts, because it is so understandable. The jedi didn't save them, even though they were supposed to and so they are traitors. And Agen drawing back, once he realizes that... not knowing how to breach the subject that he himself is a jedi, but accepting the blame... my heart.

Every single clone hurts to read or think about. They dont have a choice, the only thing they can do is follow orders and hope that they wont have to suffer for it. But they are still trying to save their humanity, trying to make it as painless as possible for them to do their work and keep as many parts of themselves as they can save.

I love that it is Savage that sympathized with the jedi. And how, after not obviously caring for him, Maul obviously cares and goes after the one who by all appearances killed him, but let's up from it because there is a chance that Savage is still alive. Also, because Agen is the one of the most skilled sword fighters in the Jedis history and it is not an empty title.

Also. Just gotta say. I need that fix it for Kit. For Tan too, but Kit!!! If it were possible, I would wish for him to please be un-tortured and happy. Since that's not possible... blankets. Lots of them. All of them.

I am so utterly delighted you enjoyed it!! Agen/Dogma is on of those ships where their sharp edges all fit together in a way that's just - good, and I'm so happy to finally write them. Especially like this, in this sort of AU, where everything is hard and bad but they're both doing what they can to make the right choices.

Kit definitely will get a fix-it! And Tan will feature into it as well, and Rex too. I'm considering doing one for Savage as well, since he definitely deserved better.

i think one of SOCs greatest strengths is the way it does interpersonal relationships!! so i think there's a LOT of potential for any ship, really, save for (non-platonic) wylan/nina or wylan/inej bc that boy gay as fuck. i think that i can see kind of any other pairing work in a romantic or sexy context! but using the ones you listed:

kylan: i think it has horny potential but it always takes a bit of creative licence and detachment from what i think the charactesr would actually do. i don't think i could ever write or enjoy it in a romantic sense but like, two people that fuck around in a slightly dysfunctional way? yes, good. it's fun to write!

ninej: when i first read SOC this was actually my lil otp! i think their friendship is wonderful and love love love them finding comfort and affection with each other, and specifically inej learning how to like, trust other people (and frankly other sex workers???) with nina. i slip it into a lot of my AUs in a really subtle sense and would love to write more! but dont trust fandom to give non canon wlw ships any engagement whoops

kazper: as you may well know i used to fucking hate kazper 😅 i found the balance really hard to get right and really hard to enjoy if it was even slightly off for me? but i've come round to it!

Opinion on sengen?

ahh, the popular ship of senku ishigami and gen asagiri. watching the series, i can tell why it is a popular ship. gen already admired senku from the start, which is a good setup for closeness. he recognizes senku's talents, and vice versa. he was an unclear enemy at first, but seeing the world senku envisions, he takes a side. this also adds in to the admiration meter.

Another part is the fact that since he and senku were the only two ppl in the village who knew tsukasa personally, and could formulate against him, they had a lot of important scenes that included both of them. an example is the one where they decided to mimic lilian weinberg's voice and use false hope as bait for the members of the tsukasa empire. Their dynamic fits well, because theyre similar, but have very clear differences.

And because of the fact that their relationship started way earlier than before the "wise generals" banded, it feels more in depth and solidified. because in the time when the ppl werent as unified, before tsukasa wasnt dead set on creating a "paradise", they were only just a few village people against a looming threat of war, and these two dudes sought each other the most in those dire times. aside from that, with taiju gone, gen kind of kept senku company.

the others were great company, dont get me wrong. kohaku is a great peer, chrome is too. kaseki, suika, magma, everyone. they depended on senku, gen did too. in return, senku also depended on them. However, its just that their closeness is so significantly different.

they were both exclusive to things the others didn't know. They both held information others didnt. and although that doesnt mean that senkus friends made him feel lonely, it still doest change the fact that theres this obvious feeling of difference between him and the villagers. Gen, however, is a solace of that.

With gen, senku doesnt have to feel like the only modern guy around. He feels a little less lonely in his predicament. they can talk a little more personal, because they understand each others' circumstance.

Its so very complicated to describe the essence and logistics of why its such a popular ship, but im sure alot of people pick it up by the vibe alone.

but if you wanna put all my jibba jabba aside, gifting senku a telescope as an appreciation and birthday present? As a surprise, too? very sentimental. out of nowhere. gay behavior.

theres also this certain tie between him and senku that just hits a little different. aside from relationship development, theyre both sort of equals to each other. in terms of circumstance, abilities, and status. In a sense, they relate to each other on a somwhat deeper level. also, theyve got lots of personal interaction scenes with them 2gether, so.

i haven't given a ton of thought to this but i think for me it would be at least pruhun and fruk. pruhun because it feels like there's a very rich well of history to tap there and their personalities are so delightful together. part of me still leans toward headcanoning prussia as aroace but that doesnt change the fact i think he and erze have a long and tumultuous history with all sorts of different dynamics in there. as for fruk, it just makes the most sense for me of any ship and is super toxic and messy in the best possible way. i want them to fuck stupid on battlefields and serve as each other's executioner and then hold each other like no one else understands. maybe in the same decade

🧠 what's your most "essential" headcanon? (one you can't imagine the hetalia universe without!)

other people have spoken about this but some of the headcanons/assumptions i rely on the most come back to secrecy and the strangeness of what nations are. i think there's absolutely a supernatural element to their existence (for example, the ability to sort of strike awe into their subjects, know basic facts about those same subjects innately, and arouse strong feelings in their subjects like blind loyalty). i think these 'powers/abilities' fluctuate but that elements of them exist and inform what nations are. i also think a lot about the secrecy angle. i'm plotting and very slowly writing a fic about england and his siblings during the wars of the three kingdoms and i keep thinking that, whilst it's an essential headcanon to me that before the 20th century or so the existence of nations is known primarily amongst the ruling class, wouldn't the existence of that knowledge and its transfer from ruler to ruler forge a very different reality to ours? so while i think it's interesting to bring into question what it would be like if regular, normal people learnt about nations for the first time, i also think we're dealing with a very different 'timeline'. and i think, too, that a nation's existence could prove a useful thing and be easily enmeshed with religious and political ideology. for example, in regard to england, i think that his status as a representative for the 'whole' of england and its people would be a potential bargaining chip for the levellers at the putney debates when proposing universal suffrage. if england stands for all people, and tells them as much, and they are fighting for the same england that this weird flesh-being represents, then aren't all men on equal footing? he doesnt represent just the landowning class after all. etc

Oh, don’t get me wrong, I get it! “Going by what sounds better” types of pairing names can completely work, for example, like in Hannigram, but they mostly work bc majority of the time people mean a very specific pairing dynamic (95% of the time when people say “Hannigram” they mean top Hannibal and bottom Will, it’s just generally hard to see this two shipped the other way around). I am not sure if I’ve explained what I mean well enough, but yea, those “nice sounding” ship names can totally work, but they usually work in very specific scenarios, you know what I mean?

Also, I gotta agree! As someone who sometimes likes feminine men/short kings/“pretty boys” as tops, it really sucks when I finally find a work with this kind of non-standard top just to be bamboozeled :/ I really like Aster from NU:Carnival and would like to see works with him as top and Eiden (mc) as bottom, but you know…

btw, that’s a small thing, but I really don’t like how bad ship tagging is on AO3. If authors don’t go out of their way to put who is top and who is bottom in the additional tags, majority of the time you wouldn’t know. In my country we have our local big fanfic community and there you can easily filter couples depending on whether you want A/B or B/A (or if you like both you just don’t choose the sorting option for the specific dynamic). Sadly, because a lot of people in my country don’t speak English, that means that I just generally have less choices for works that I can read so I always end up going for sites :(

about the proshipper ask, i was just wondering what counts as a problematic ship? because i know that things like pedophilia and incest fall under dead dove: do not eat (most of the time at least...its honestly really disturbing when it seems to be written like normal romance) but i wasnt aware whether if they also fall under pro-ship.

As far as i know, problematic ships were the ones that were borderline/abusive, toxic behaviour/mannerisms or major character flaws (like, idk using their poor mental health as an excuse for their actions) not being condemned in the pairings. in those contexts i can sort of understand that perspective of wanting to just watch that absolute mess unfold vs actually thinking theyre a good and healthy couple.

1.) Y'know, I honestly don't know. All of this is completely new to me-- I started posting art on Tumblr and Twitter again just a few months ago, and got met with a lot of incestuous, minor related art and was told that it was called pro-shipping, so that's really the extent of my knowledge.

As far as toxic/abusive relationships, I don't think that falls under the same category--but again, that's just me and the extent of my knowledge.

I feel like most of the movies and shows we consume have problematic ships like that--and though it doesn't make the concept 100% okay, it's more normal to see. And by normal to see, I mean-- we're humans. Most of us have some kind of toxic relationship with someone. This is an understandable worldwide problem, that has a solution/resolution--like therapy or them just splitting up, or them growing in a way that'll help both people not be terrible to each other.

The OTHER stuff is just straight up "idc this is forbidden love, idc if it's gross it makes me happy etc etc"

So yeah, I say all that to say I don't think they fall in the same category. I wouldn't call toxic relationships pro-shipping. That other stuff? Oh yeah, 100%, but maybe I'm wrong.

2.) As far as the don't like/don't read thing/squicks question, like I said, I'm not into incest, CP or hardcore smut. Call me a square, but I just like wholesome, fluffy content lol

anyway fr tho everyone is data's bestie i think. literally what i will say about data is i think literally his dynamic works very well with, like, everyone because he IS a particular type of character and i think his perspective and inquisitive nature do, like, lend themselves to encourage certain reflection from each individual - so long as they're open to him. i really enjoy almost all other dynamics he has with ppl pretty equally!? i guess with the exceptions of picard and pulaski- neither of those really.... brought much to the show, in my opinion.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon

and its like- its like... sigh. i dont want ALL of them to. i think the way picard treats data? hell, i hate it- but it makes a hell of a lot of sense, and i think its realistic for him to be snappy with him. for him not to properly sit down and try to understand data- like that does... actually make sense to me, from what i get from picard as a person. unfortunately enough. and its like- im not "fine" fine with that, but i like it in terms of like. a character decision bc i actually do value some sense of honesty with that but then in comparison....

idk... theres some other characters who will be dismissive or irritated with him sometimes. and again- i suppose it is just... how people would BE, but its like. they will all insist they love him but then also fail to understand him and get mad when he starts going to funny decimal points and its like. nooo babes... ITS LIKE I GET IT- everyone will have their moments of frustration/irritation, and HELL even everyone will have their limits of understanding, but then its also... like idk. a lot of the time some ppl who rlly should, at a point, understand him will then make a comment at him that... just doesnt FIT right. and i think its moreso- HONESTLY, i think its moreso writers trying to get in a funny haha data is an android joke in which despite it just kinda being clunky to the scene and- EH. its annoying i guess. thats just what it is, sometimes.
