Alastor hazbin let down
By overhype and a lack of tone setting.
He isn't creepy
Try as they may, the glitchy effects just tell me that this is a quirky character, only most of the cast are quirky in character just not too flashy.
Tumblr media
Nobody is particularly menacing, including Alastor who so far has been a bit menacing to a character who isn't going anywhere and unnamed extras who not even Charlie 'everyone is worthy', 'these are my people/family' cared about.
His secrets mean nothing to anyone
Where has he been for seven years? The same absence period of Lilith? Who cares?
What Alastor knows is what the audience and clueless Charlie doesn't, but others do.
Tumblr media
All someone else's talk
In the pilot it was Vaggie who let us know who exactly Alastor was and ehat he was capable of, she wanted no part of him around, but nothing to loose, no opinion in the matter Charlie did.
Tumblr media
Mimzy in her passing visit told us more about him, she actually bought his character down to earth a little which was actually a good thing, Mimzy let us know that Alastor could be fun, reminded us that he had a whole life, she offered us a time frame of his existence and let us know he has friends/acquaintances/connections.
Though the 'bringing down to earth' negative aspect would happen too this episode, through no doing of Mimzys but entirely of Alastors. Unfortunately Alastor appears to have cut off Mimzy as a friend, leaving him with a shorter reach.
Any other reputable character steals his spotlight
Alastair was outshone by Mimzy, who literally interpreted his song baiting the actual devil. In this episode he showed that he wasn't all too composed when not in control of the situation or when outclassed, his attitude to Lucifer case in point, who he can't possibly topple any time soon in any way. All would be fine if we got to see what he did about it when he had time to himself or what he would do when things escalated, a missed opportunity being in the last episode he would lose to Adam, which was great, Alastor gave off overconfidence and lack of interest as usual, but by now we have seen how much he wishes to insert himself among those higher, only for him to treat Adam like a nobody - how did he feel about the looming danger he was in and not being in the same ballpark as someone who felt confident enough to challenge? Who knows, he as good as drifted away like piss in the ocean.
We didn't learn of any particular interest or reason for lack of in Adam, for someone who does so much research.
Tumblr media
Between these encounters, Rosie too managed to stand out more than him as his confidant who successfully run an operation, had a clear goal, seemed unconditionally helpful, a people person and got through to Charlie with nice enough advice and a ear to listen.
He struggles to keep up an act, something that's not utilized at all when it could be
Being overactive to Lucifer, showing dislike for no apparent reason and dropping the bomb seems like it was meant to get a laugh out of the audience, only for Alastor to go on to continue tormenting Charlie's dad and to build a rivalry. If a rivalry was the intention then the usual composed attitude would have fit. If there's a reason for a hatred he struggles to contain, it's a shame the time wasn't made to delve into this.
Tumblr media
Significant characters could have done with more time in general honesty.
In other media we have Good omens had composed and sweet angel Azraphale drop an unexpected but very understandable fbomb (which may have been the first of the series) when he accidentally lost his body of 6000 years. There was a build up of the looming end of the world, years of preventative work going to waste, nobody listening and a pest in his home.
Tumblr media
HH really missed a beat in having a character like Alastor first snap for no particular reason.
Tumblr media
In other media, Durarara did excellent at deconstructing and humbling an unbothered and mysterious troll character, this being Izaya. In this supernatural series he would manage to stand out and consistently be a strong villain/antihero, managing to not become lesser dispite going from a menace holding a number of cards who claimed to love humans, to being proven to be a human with the introduction of his sisters, his very uncomplex backstory and generally getting dealt with by the series's most illusive gangsters.
Coherence could make things work, hopefully there's less going on next time and the ensemble cast can be dispersed out a bit better.
Tumblr media
Better luck next time Alastor

Agency informant Izaya
Izaya seeing Chuuya and Dazai arguing and chuckling to himself.
'Is that what we looked like to everyone? All they need now is a stop sign.' He wonders, feeling the familiar wave of anxiety that comes everytime the past resurfaces.
Izaya doesn't like to think about the past, but it's not exactly up to him. At least now he didn't see him wherever he went. He should be greatful that's not the case anymore.
Even if it was exactly what he deserved.
Dazai's suddenly at his side, his footsteps louder than they are usually as to not startle him. Izaya sometimes wonders if befriending a Port Mafia executive was a good idea.
Especially one who can see through him so easily. Only one person had ever been able to do that. The old him would've hated it, this one feels safe.
He enjoys Dazai and Chuuya's company.
"Oh don't mind me, just reminiscing." Says Izaya, looking out to the horizon. The sun would be setting soon.
Maybe it was because it shared the same name as his ability, but Izaya loved watching the sunset.
It gave him a sense of calm. As if nothing can hurt him. Which was dumb, because Izaya had learned the hard way he was anything but invincible.
The sun disappearing drowned the world into darkness, rendering his ability practically useless. It was the reminder he was completely and utterly human.
"Oh? Did you have your own dog?" Asks Dazai, not even hiding his intrigue. Chuuya glares at Dazai "I'm not your damn dog!" He yells but the usual fire is missing in his words, he's curious too.
Izaya rarely talks about the past, and while neither pushed him on it they wanted to know more.
Izaya shakes his head.
He doesn't want to have that conversation, he doesn't think he'll ever want to have that conversation.
Izaya keeps his eye on the sun as it starts to descend. He let's it's calm wash over him and remind him he's safe. He knows they can see his fear, that they won't push him on it.
And yet Izaya has to say something, for his own peace of mind.
"No, I didn't have my own Chuuya..." He takes a deep breath "but I almost did."

I love all of your analysis on both Izaya and ASPD, it really makes me think. I really feel like Izaya would do good in the disabled community, after all, wouldn’t he have so much fun pissing off politicians and working for disabled rights?
And the fact that he treats everyone equally is going to be so much more appreciated among people who have never been treated equally.
I just want a post Ketsu story where he realizes that he has ASPD and actually works through the symptoms, enough that it isn’t controlling his life anymore. All the while making life better for himself and every other disabled person in Japan.
EVERYONE ELSE SHUT UP. YOU. KEEP TALKING
no but youre actually so correct. izaya loves humans and loves fucking with people- so why not redirect those urges into something more productive? he's still fucking with people, still pushing people to their limits
and wouldnt it be FUNNY if it came out that he was doing this? like, there's no proof, but there are rumors that izaya drove X corrupt polititian to suicide or Y insurance company CEO to resign, and NOBODY CARES like they just. look the other way. kinda like the guy with the thingamajig that assasinated shinzo abe- that guy DID get arrested, but he did what he did because abe had ties to the life church, aka the moonies, a christian cult. but then the govt looked into it and then money stopped getting funneled to the moonies. like people went "yeah that guy had a point" abt it all
AND ON THE TOPIC OF ASPD- what if izaya does aspd related activism on the side? wouldnt it be cool to see him get into a formal debate with another professional who studies aspd but has a... less favorable view on it? wouldnt it be sick to see izaya corner them more and more, ask them what EXACTLY makes people like him different from everyone else? what exactly does the field of psychiatry seek to gain by villifying these people, who have what they have because of trauma, who could be helped if people tried- ACTUALLY tried, instead of the focus being on fixing them, like their disorder needs to be completely eradicated first and foremost before they're allowed to be treared as a person, before any of the other problems could hope to be addressed? what is there to gain from the system being as it is now?
i want to see izaya orihara have a formal debate in a college setting and make the other guy cry. i think izaya deserves this as a little treat

Yanderes who are perfectly normal s/o to Darling 95% of the time...unless their specific threshold of "Darling is in danger" or "someone is trying to hurt or take advantage of them" is passed and they go fucking feral at a moment's notice
Like specifically this is how I view Shizuo as a yandere. I really love a hc I once saw that it isn't his anger that triggers him, it's more that his anxiety triggers him. His flight-or-fight response a) is his entire body going into overdrive and b) is solely a fight response, so the stress of his Darling being in danger or especially them being targeted (or even just mentioned) by Izaya would make him snap.
Like all it takes is a single light comment from Izaya about how cute it is to see Shizu-chan playing human with someone that thinks they won't hurt him, and he's hurling the nearest vehicle or piece of infrastructure at that flea. Of course that's exactly what Izaya wanted lol, to see that reaction. See? Does Darling really think you're able to feel love, or are they in denial that he's a monster? Surely Shizuo knows it's only going to end in tragedy--either he winds up driving them away from fear or disgust, or he winds up killing them one day when his rage gets the better of him. In the meantime, Izaya's happy to watch and wait!
Shizuo will call his Darling a million times once he gets the suspicion Izaya is planning something involving them. He wants to know where they are and says he doesn't want them alone for too long; find Tom or Simon or Vorona and don't reply to any weird anonymous texts or phone calls, alright?
Or he'll catch Izaya brazenly chatting with Darling after introducing himself for the first time, and Shizuo loses it. He throws a stop sign like a javelin at Izaya and then grabs Darling by the wrist to drag her away from that Flea, and he's so angry that he can't even respond to Darling's frantic questions about what the hell he just did. It's only when he hears them complain that he's hurting their hand that he stops, murmurs a small "I'm sorry" and tries to calm down. If Izaya shows up again he just hauls Darling over his shoulder and sprints at top speed. He can kill Izaya later, but priority one is getting Darling as far from that fucker as possible.

Okay I had saved last rb in my drafts for a time when I was at the computer to type up my own thoughts that this brought up.
It would make sense that if Darkseid/Apokolips is "evil" (read: villain), then the opposite being Highfather/New Genesis is "good" (read: hero). That stands to reason for like 90% of super hero comics in DC. But interestingly, it's not a perfect 1:1 for New Gods. Yes Orion stood against Darkseid and swore to take down his own father if it was the last thing he did, but he would do so with his own hands. Not with weapons or armies. The Fourth World publication history became a bit of a mess, but in-universe that seemed to be the original plan.
And what's interesting is even that good vs evil thing isn't quite exactly right. It's more that the evil is oppression, and the opposite of oppression is free will. That is what those on New Genesis represent.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: Two comic panels from New Gods (1971) #1. In the first Highfather and Orion bow to a group of children who had been singing. Highfather says, "First we boy to the young -- they are the carriers of life! They must remain free, Orion! Life flowers in freedom!" Orion replies, "In this cause I live as well."
In the second, the two walk through a darkened corridor. Orion says, "There is danger, then! Life and freedom are threatened--" To which Highfather says, "On a scale never before attempted! Come! We go to the chamber of the Source!" /END]
--
And as OP mentioned, it also wouldn't have been Highfather to fight against Darkseid anyway, because long, long ago Izaya the warrior had already done that. For many years! To the point of tearing apart all the universe around them. He looked at the destruction, the broken life and festering remnants of war, and saw that his actions were no better than Darkseids since in the end it all led to ruin. So he sought to find himself, and he did.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: Two comic panels from New Gods (1971) #7 of Izaya. The first with his face in his hands. He wears gold, red and black armor and says, "We are worse than the old gods! They destroyed themselves!! We destroy everything!! This is Darkseid's way! I am infected by Darkseid!! To save New Genesis -- I must find Izaya!!"
In the second he rips off the shirt of armor and throws his staff. He yells into the sky, "I tear off my armor! I reject this war-staff as a weapon!!! I reject the way of war!!" /END]
--
That was all back in 1971. Since then several others have written Highfather and Orion, and even more have written Darkseid. Now for comparison, let's jump to 2013 and 2014 to see what New 52 gave us, since that seems to be what a lot of newer canon is based off of, and what many fans are familiar with...
If I recall correctly, the New Gods make an appearance first in Wonder woman. You can see even from a cover from this arc that the Highfather described above doesn't really seem like the one they're portraying. This cover would have you believe he is a dictator.
Tumblr media
[ID: Cover of Wonder Woman (2011) #22 with the tagline "For the Glory of New Genesis" written in a blocky font with backwards R's. The image is a giant bust of Highfather with Wonder Woman and Orion flying in front. It is colored red and yellow and highly stylized to look soviet in appearance. /END]
--
Then In Superman we see Orion acting kind of like a jerk to be honest. In the past he had acted honorably and wanted to protect innocents. Yes he has violence and destruction running deep within him, but the whole point was that he could be something more. I don't remember a single time where he was vying for "the throne", so I really don't know where that line came from.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: Two panels from Superman (2011) #18 of Orion. The first is after defeating a monster. He says with an angry wrinkled face, "But seriously... You can't even muster a 'thank you'?"
In the second he has a smoother face and thinks "Is this why I'm so angry? Because I'm tired of being treated more like an errand boy than an heir to the throne?" /END]
--
And the last item to point out is from Godhead (my beloathed) where Highfather and all of New Genesis is portrayed as a warring planet that attacked OA (if I remember right, I try not to think of this story as much as possible). Here you can see Highfather is shown as an armored leader of thousands of troops. This to me is the antithesis of what Highfather stands for, and a slap in the face of the character building Jack Kirby did. Was this meant to be before he denounced war? I can only hope so given the armor colors. But it doesn't seem to be the case since this is taking place when Orion is already a full adult.
Tumblr media
[ID: A comic panel from Green Lantern/New Gods: Godhead #1. Highfather stands on a balcony far above thousands of troops standing in formation. He wears heavy gold, red and black armor. Narration reads, "Every since -- for time beyond measure -- we have readied for the next battle with Darkseid. We know not when the final confrontation will come... only that it will." /END]
--
So in all of the above you can see how newer readers (if you can call 2014 new), might really think that Highfather is meant to actively fight Darkseid, and that Orion is his warrior son who is next in line for some great throne. And that's really a shame because New Gods was a story about real human emotion and choices, even if it was about gods. Jack Kirby explicitly wanted to make a story for modern audiences where the gods represented the people of today!
Anyway, I've been meaning to express this whole concept of N52 New Gods and why it's such a disservice for a while now, and that last ask/reply gave me the courage to sit down and do it. There's so much more than this that we could go into, so consider this scratching the surface. And like OP of that reply, I too don't really know what tf is going on with New Gods right now, especially if their horribly out of character appearance in Action Comics from just over a year ago is canon. I think once again they're off in limbo and writers don't really know what to do with them. Sadly all too common.

Unforeseen Outcome - BSD x DRRR Crossover
Izaya stumbles across a new suicidal human online and baits them into committing suicide; he may have asked more than what he bargained for.
tw: suicide mention/ideation
ao3
10:06pm
Already minutes passed their agreed upon meeting time. Sitting at the bar top, Izaya occasionally glances at the entrance across the room through the dim lighting, jazz music faintly plays in the background.
Any moment now.
Izaya runs his finger along his wine glass, still full. Usually for these kinds of meet-ups, Izaya selects the location. He likes playing by his rules, in his domain. This time though, Izaya agreed to meet at a bar all the way out in Yokohama: Lupin. When he came across a new suicidal pawn to toy with on an online forum, Izaya offered a few suggestions for a meeting place but this particular person insisted on meeting here instead, claiming that their one dying wish is to have one final drink at their favorite bar. Izaya couldn’t deny them of that, especially considering the possibility that they actually follow through with suicide. Still, Izaya wonders if that will actually be the case this time.
Then again, as long as something interesting happens, Izaya can’t complain. Maybe this one will produce surprising results, Izaya can only hope. The only clue he has about this human is that he goes by the name Dazai. As always, Izaya enjoys extensively researching the suicidal humans he plays around with and retaining every little detail about their lives. It's what makes the game more thrilling—using their own information against them and watching them expose themselves for who they really are.
Yet his own investigation on Dazai's background earlier in the week left Izaya stumped. Very rarely did Izaya come across someone with little to no digital footprint. The only significant trace Izaya could uncover was that Dazai may have some affiliation with Yokohama's Port Mafia, which was of course contradicted by his clean criminal record. Other than that, Izaya couldn't find anything on guy! Not to mention that the Port Mafia itself is unfamiliar territory for Izaya—he has only heard a handful rumors from working with the Awakusu.  Nothing new came up either when Izaya consulted his "other channels", except for the possibility of Dazai being a Port Mafia executive. Yet, Izaya could not find evidence to back that claim up. The more he searched, the more mysterious this Dazai figure became. Perhaps that isn't a bad thing, Izaya figures. If anything, it only adds more excitement as to who Dazai could truly be. And Izaya has the opportunity to meet him in person and discover the truth for himself, which is why he even made the effort to come all the way to Yokohama from Ikebukuro. It better be worth it, if all goes well perhaps Dazai could be of some use to Izaya.
Of course, there's still the matter of why someone like Dazai would want to take his own life in the first place. Especially if he legitimately is connected to the Port Mafia in some way—Izaya can only be so curious.
Who exactly are you, Dazai?
When he hears muffled footsteps and the door creaking open, Izaya remains seated in his stool. A smirk slowly curves his lips. Finally . When he turns his head, Izaya finds a man standing right before him. A beige trench coat drapes his shoulders, a black vest is worn over a light blue dress shirt; the rest of his attire is completed with slacks and leather shoes. He appears to be around Izaya’s age—if he has to guess, he must be somewhere in his early twenties. Strands of ruffled brunette hair frame the man’s face and his chestnut eyes stare back at Izaya, returning the smile.
Izaya’s eyes draw to the bandages covering this human’s forearms and around his neck, trailing down his chest. In fact, the only exposed skin Izaya finds are his hands and face. Yet, he sees no indication that this man is in any pain or discomfort. How peculiar.
“So you must be Nakura.” The brunette sits right beside Izaya at the bar top. He gestures at the bartender and orders an old fashioned. "It's finally nice to meet you! Thank you for agreeing to meet me here, sorry for being a little late." A cheeky smile forms on his face, his brown eyes loom over Izaya.
"It's a pleasure to meet you too." Izaya flashes a grin back at him. "Dazai, right?"
"Yup, that's me." The bartender sets the drink on the bar top besides Dazai. "Well, to kick this evening off, how about a toast to our double suicide? To finally leaving this wretched world behind!" Dazai holds his glass out before Izaya.
"Sure, why not?" Chuckling, Izaya raises his wine glass. "To finally leaving this wretched world behind."
"Cheers!"
Their glasses collide with a clink. Dazai begins gulping his old fashion down while Izaya cautiously sips his wine.
"I am honored that you chose me to commit suicide with," Izaya states.
"Well to be honest Nakura," Dazai leans on the bar top, his other arm stretches behind his back, "I would've preferred a beautiful woman to do a double suicide with. That would be very romantic."
Izaya let out a laugh. "A woman, huh? So why did you settle for me then if that's how you want to go out?"
"Because you were the only one who responded to my post," Dazai sighs dramatically, "and all the women I asked turned me down." He throws his arms in the air and spins in his barstool. "Besides, you can't do a double suicide alone." A sly smile creeps onto Dazai's face, his eyes narrow at Izaya. "I guess you'll have to do."
"Fair point," Izaya remarks. "I hope I can prove to be a worthy suicide partner for you." Izaya still wears the subtle smile on his face, careful as to not let his mask slip off. His eyes focus on Dazai, scanning every little movement and reaction—anything that could potentially reveal his nature and identity. If Dazai truly has any kind of involvement in the Port Mafia, Izaya can only assume that he would not give away that information easily and willingly.
Which means Izaya will have to play the long game for this one.
"So Dazai," Izaya chimes, "if you don't me asking, why do you wish to commit suicide? What makes you feel so compelled to take your own life—or rather what are you escaping from?”
Dazai takes a quick swig of his drink. "If I'm being honest, I don't really see any value in living."
A vague answer, but Izaya believes he can still wiggle the truth out of him someway.
"I'm curious," Izaya says, twirling his glass. "What do you think happens after you die?"
"After I die?" Dazai stares blankly at him. "Honestly, I haven't really given it much thought." He shrugs. "I just want to die, there's nothing more to it than that."
"Really? You don't ever consider if there's an afterlife?"
"Mmm, not really." Dazai continues sipping his drink. "Frankly, I don't even care. Why do you ask, Nakura?"
"I'm just curious," Izaya perks up. "As for me, I am an atheist. I don't believe in the afterlife—no heaven, no hell, and nothing in between."
"Good for you, I guess." Dazai shrugs. "I don't really see why that matters."
"Oh but it does matter." Izaya leans in. "You need to have love in your death, fully embrace it."
"Well, I do love suicide if that's what you're getting at," Dazai grinned. "I think it's fascinating." He traces the rim of his glass, smiling slightly. "I'd like to go out peacefully and painlessly if that's possible."
"Love suicide?" Izaya snickers. He'll admit that Dazai is the first person he met who expressed enthusiastic interest in suicide—not once has he met someone who smiled while discussing the topic to kill themselves. Yet, he is still not fully convinced that he would actually go through with it. If Izaya didn't know better, he'd say that Dazai just likes the idea of death. A peaceful and painless suicide? Ha, what an oxymoron! "Sorry Dazai, but I don't think you have love in your death. What if death is painful? You need to be ready to face it head on, even the ugly parts." The smile on Izaya's face transforms into a faint smirk as he awaits Dazai's response.
"It's not that I disagree with you or anything," Dazai's voice falls flat. "But what's wrong with wanting to go out peacefully? If I want to end my life, it’s only fair that I do so on my terms. Besides, I don't like pain."
Izaya scoffs. "A painless suicide—that's quite a contradiction. If you truly wish to die, you shouldn't be concerned about the pain. How can you end your suffering if you can’t even face it?”
"Who are you to tell me how I should feel about offing myself? I just want a cheerful and energetic suicide." He downs the rest of his old fashioned. Dazai's eyes narrow at Izaya. "What about you Nakura? Why do you want to die?"
"I don't." Izaya crosses his arms, maintaining his composure. He wants to see how Dazai will react to him lying about his intentions.
Dazai gazes piercingly at Izaya, his eyes now lacking the warmth he had when he first arrived. For a brief moment, he remains silent—he slumps over on the bar top.
"Well that's a bummer," Dazai complains. "I was really looking forward to tonight. In fact. . .” He reaches into one of his coat pockets and pulls out a book. Izaya skims the title: The Complete Manual to Suicide . “. . .I was up late last night trying to decide on a double suicide method for us. There were a few that caught my eye but I just couldn’t pick! I was actually hoping we could choose one together, Nakura.”
He really wasn’t kidding when he said he loves suicide. Such a book exists ?
“Wow Dazai, I didn’t realize you put so much thought and consideration into this.” Izaya’s shoulders rise and fall. “I’m curious—what did you have in mind for a method? And what is that book even about?”
“It’s about suicide of course! It’s my favorite book, I recommend you give it a read too!!” Dazai grins, holding the book up to show Izaya. “At first, I was thinking of an overdose but I dabbled in mixing medications before and it didn’t work. There’s also the classic hanging ourselves with a noose if you want something more traditional—I know a few good hanging spots.” He fidgets on the stool as he flips through the pages, eyes glimmering. “I’ve also tried drowning myself but someone interfered and rescued me. I’d like to give that one another go.”
“Wait,” Izaya’s eyes slightly widen. “You’ve attempted before?”
“Oh yeah!” Dazai nods. “Plenty of times! One time, I shoved myself into an oil drum and got stuck. I got pretty bored waiting to die so I asked a friend to help me out.” A beaming smile rests on his face.
The smirk on Izaya’s face subsides. For once, he isn’t sure how to respond. This is his first encounter with a human who previously attempted to kill themselves—hell it never even crossed his mind that he’d meet someone who attempted multiple times. This guy even brings a damn book dedicated to the subject and nonchalantly talks about suicide like it’s his hobby! Surely, Dazai has exceeded Izaya’s expectations in ways he could not predict. At least he has proven to be a somewhat  interesting human to Izaya.
“I see.” His lips curve back upwards. “Well I hope you’re not too mad at me for pulling you along like that.”
“Mad? No.” Dazai shakes his head, twirling a strand of hair around his finger. “But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t annoyed. Or curious.” He leans forward towards Izaya. “Tell me. If you don’t intend to kill yourself, then what was the point of all of this then?”
“I just love humans,” Izaya grins. “In my eyes, they are the most interesting creatures. I especially like seeing how humans respond and react in various circumstances.” He points a finger at Dazai. “ You surely didn’t disappoint me.”
“Uh-huh.” Dazai slowly nods his head. “Well, since you’re not actually interested in attempting suicide with me, I’m going to take my leave. You can make up for my wasted time by paying for my one drink.” Dazai rises from his stool and turns to face the door. “Oh one more thing!”
He slips his hand in his pocket and reveals a pocket knife—no, Izaya’s pocket knife. When did he swipe it? How did he swipe it without Izaya knowing? Izaya’s hands briskly run over the pockets of his fur-lined jacket. He narrows his crimson eyes at Dazai.
“I’ll be taking this as a little memento.” Dazai winks as he waves Izaya’s knife in front of him. A smile stretches across his face, baring his glistening teeth. “Were you planning on using this on me, Nakura? Or should I say, Izaya Orihara ?”
Izaya places his hands in his pockets as he hears each syllable of his name roll off Dazai’s lips. Who does he think he is snatching his knife from him like that? He stands his ground, his signature smirk returning on his lips. “So you do know who I am then?”
“I’ve heard some things,” Dazai shrugs before sliding Izaya’s knife back into his pocket. “It was nice meeting you. Who knows, maybe our paths will cross again.”
With that, Dazai strides towards the exit, vanishing into the Yokohama nightlife. Despite the jazz music still playing in the background, a new silence fills the bar as Izaya remains as the only patron left. His lips turn upwards, stretching into a cheeky grin. He couldn’t help it, Izaya breaks out cackling.
Dazai, you truly proved to be interesting after all.

I think... animes where I dont have ships... are just the overall better written animes...
Like ok, if I start with one of my earliest animes, Death Note. Yeah, Light/L has an appeal. I get it. But the story of the show is so damn good... that I really don't give a hardcore damn about the pairings. Light/L stands out bc the show WANTS you to think about them together (not as a pairing, but as two sides of a coin, etc etc)
Durarara, same. Shizuo/Izaya would be the Light/L of Durarara. But this anime is less so about the story what story and more so about the characters and their journeys. The appeal of Shizuo/Izaya is that its fun. They're both doing their own thing but then cross paths and when they do its like FIREWORKS, and the show knows it. It wants you to feel that way when they bump into each other.
FMAB (I mean c'mon, my pairing of choice was two characters that exchanged a sentence in the second last ep), that show is insanely well written. I couldn't think of ships the whole time.
I could say the same for Attack on Titan. Like I said throughout watching it, that I shipped Levi/Hange from day 1, and not hardcore. But I wasnt hoping and praying for them to be onscreen together, or to have pairing-esque moments. I was enjoying the show for what it was and if they HAPPENED to be onscreen together I was like :))) also I just kinda shipped everyone with Levi bc in my head Levi in relationship scenarios with all these different personalities was hilarious but then he had to go and be a dad to everyone so I then kept him exclusively for his wife Hange
Then take some underrated shows like 91 Days, ACCA, Baccano, Saiki, Ushio, etc. They're just so well written that pairings are so back of your mind, even if you have one or POSSIBLY two.
For me then, if I take HxH... its a weird one cause there's not exactly a lot to choose from pairing wise. But regardless. I went a good portion of the show not caring about any ship. Didn't want to. The writing was just so good. But then Meruem/Komugi entered and didn't become "my ship for that show", but one of my top 5 fave pairings of all time, the pairings I actually legitimately care a lot about. So HxH hit a little different with that one pair.
But its just something I've noticed about myself. If the pairing isn't a ride or die I'm obsessed with it pairing, its usually from a show that's so well written, I probably just have a pairing from it for the fun of it. EXCEPT HxH. The one exception.
Whereas you can take shows like YGO and Inuyasha, and the writing isn't jawdopping, and I have a good few pairs from each, and those pairings are prob my fave parts of those shows, that's just basically how I know I know which shows I consider better written than others, by my pairing quantity lmao Doesn't mean I dont love those shows tho, they're just not exceptional writing
Then you have shows that, if I didn't have pairings to get me through the experience, I'd probably still be watching them to this day, like an episode a year or something Zexal

💌The melancholy of a high school Flea: Chapter 1 💌
Summary:  Shizuo considered himself to be a simple person. All he wanted was to lead a quiet life and while he didn’t exactly go looking for trouble, not that anyone really does, he’s always at the wrong place at the wrong time. For example, right now he’s wondering how the hell he got into this mess. He was standing in front of his old high school, Raijin Academy. Fishing his phone out of his pocket he froze for a second when he realized he wasn’t wearing his usual attire instead he was sporting the Raijin uniform. “This can’t be real.” His eyes were glued to his phone as he registered the date in his mind. It was April 23, seven years in the past.
Tropes: Time travel I guess but not really, High school shenanigans, Enemies to friends to lovers

Shizuo considered himself to be a simple person. All he wanted was to lead a quiet life and while he didn’t exactly go looking for trouble, not that anyone really does, he’s always at the wrong place at the wrong time.
For example, right now he’s wondering how the hell he got into this mess.
The blonde doesn’t remember much of high school besides graduating. He was the type of person who just wanted to get by. He didn't care for any kind of so-called “Future” or “Career” with his strength he never really thought about it seriously because he would probably make a mess out of anything he tried. Scratch that, he did make a mess out of anything he tried and oh does he try. Somehow he got lucky and ended up with a relatively good life being able to make ends meet, learning to control his strength, his anger, and hell he even managed to make friends that weren’t afraid of him along the way and aside from that damn flea he’d say he couldn’t ask for anything more. So why was it that right now he found himself standing outside of his own personal hell hole?
Raijin Academy
Shizuo didn’t quite remember how he got here of all places but something felt off, the establishment looked the same as it did back when he was in highschool before it merged with the neighboring school and became “Raira Academy.” He frowned, crossing his arms trying to figure out why he would end up here of all places. He sighed, fishing his phone out of his pocket and froze for a second when he realized he wasn’t wearing his usual attire instead he was sporting the Raijin uniform.
“This can’t be real.”
His eyes were glued to his phone as he registered the date in his mind. It was April 23, seven years in the past. He would have just started his first year at Raijin 2 weeks prior. Shizuo grit his teeth knowing what would come if he stepped into that building, he would never forget this day for as long as he lived. Today was the day that he'd met Izaya Orihara.
“This has to be a dream, right? There’s no way I could have gone back in time.”
He was on autopilot as he tried to think about how and or why he was here. If this was a dream then he’d just have to wait until he woke up right? Surely he was sleeping and this was just a dream, right? Maybe this was just a really vivid flashback?
He slowly made his way through the halls not really focusing on the faces he was passing by until he made it to his homeroom. Shizuo has lived through a lot of weird occurrences in his life. Topping the list, his best friend is a supernatural being for christ sake, this should be nothing new and quite frankly it feels like something out of those movies that Kasuka has been in. A dream seemed more likely than time travel but there was no way of knowing unless he remembered how he got here. He felt stupid even entertaining the idea. If he could just remember what he was doing before he was standing outside the school gate.
“I was finishing up with Tom like usual and then I saw the flea and-” His thoughts were interrupted by a familiar face as he sat in what used to be his old seat.
“Hey Shizuo guess what! Remember that friend I’ve been talking about?”
Shizuo scowled at his cheery friend, how could he forget. Shinra wouldn’t shut up about the damn bastard ever since he found out he was coming back “No, no no no no no. Not this time I’m not meeting that damn flea again!” He wondered what would happen if he didn’t meet Izaya, would his life still end up the way it did or would it change for the better? Who knows this was all just a dream anyway, it’s not like it matters much. Shinra cocked his head to the side at the response, he seemed confused “Flea? What a peculiar pet name for someone you haven’t even met yet, or could it be you have met, you did say again after all.” Shinra leaned against his desk rolling his eyes “Still though I doubt we’re talking about the same person they’ve been overseas until now-”
“Izaya Orihara, trust me we’ve met. You've already introduced us before, it didn’t end well.” Shizuo was blunt as he turned away from his friend looking out the window like the moody teen that he now was. He wanted to wake up and end this. He was by no means a lucid dreamer. Hell he was never one to even remember his dreams but out of all the times to finally know that it’s a dream to have it be such a mundane one kind of sucks.
“Now you’re just making stuff up,” Shinra whined “I know you don't think you need another friend but honestly he’s really not that bad once you get to know h-” Shinra stopped in his tracks for a second staring at him intently as it finally clicked into place. “I've never mentioned his name before, how did you?-”
Lucky for Shizuo the bell rang and it forced Shinra to go to his seat. Shizuo wondered momentarily if that was the right thing to say, he wasn’t really thinking about it. Despite him already knowing what happens in the future, should he tell Shinra about this weird time travel situation? Shizuo pinched his hand leaving a mark trying to wake himself up from this nightmare.
 It didn’t work.
Maybe it wasn’t a dream? The blonde once again tried to trace his steps of the day prior. The last thing he could remember was starting to chase after Izaya and then the next thing he knew he was standing outside the school. This was starting to frustrate him as he went about the rest of his day. Should he try to tell Shinra the truth of what he can remember, did it even matter? Or should he just recreate how that day happened the first time. He would have to decide soon and Shizuo didn’t like having so many options. Especially since he didn’t want to cause a scene if he somehow did manage to go back in time. What a conundrum, why couldn’t things be simple?
The only good thing about this scenario was that school became a hell of a lot easier now that he already knew all the answers or well most of the answers. He was doing better than when he ran the course the first time. It gave him time to focus on this strange situation which in the end, he decided he still had no idea what was going on and thinking about it wasn’t going to help him. Shizuo had never really been the brains of the operation and he wasn’t going to start now. Greatly to the blonde’s dismay he determined that to figure out what the hell was going on he’d have to meet Izaya again. There had to be a reason he was reliving this day and the only thing tied to it was the flea but this time around, he knew exactly what was going to happen. Who knows it might not be so bad. He grinned uncharacteristically at the freedom he held.
Lunch came around faster than expected and he made his way to the usual spot on the roof where Shinra and Kadota were likely to be waiting for him. He looked around and sighed, it was just Shinra. He grunted as he sat down next to the future doctor “So, how’d you know his name? I know I’ve never mentioned it to you and I doubt it was Celty.”
“Look Shinra, can I ask you something?” he nodded playfully and let Shizuo continue “What would you do if you woke up seven years ago but you still had all the memories of those seven years in the future?” He laid down using his bag as a pillow as Shinra hummed leaning back “I guess it would depend on what happens seven years from now. Personally I’d try to use what I could remember to get Celty to fall in love with me. Who knows maybe in those seven years she’ll just fall in love with me on her own. As long as I get to be with the love of my life I don’t really care what happens.”
“You know? I have no idea what I was expecting from you.” Shizuo rolled his eyes, good to know Shinra hasn’t changed much at all. He would still turn out to be the same obsessed bastard as he is in the future. It was kind of refreshing in a way, nostalgic. “It’s an interesting notion but having memories from events that haven’t happened yet? Come on, are you sure you didn’t hit your head or something?” The blonde frowned a bit. He wished he just hit his head. Physical injuries didn’t mean anything to him.
“That’s rich coming from you. You live with Celty and I have unnatural super strength but sure you draw the line at time travel or reverse amnesia?” He actually wasn’t sure what it was called but he knew it had a name.
“Foresight, but fair enough. Although I at least have physical evidence of those occurrences. I can’t exactly explain time travel and memories are a finicky thing as is.” Shizuo sighed, Shinra had a point. “Anyways what does this have to do with you knowing his name?”
“I don’t know deja vu I guess?” Shizuo shrugged as Kadota walked up to the two. The conversation was thankfully dropped. That answer seemed to satisfy Shinra for now but he still asked him to meet with his friend. Shizuo didn’t fight it this time around. He had a feeling he would end up crossing paths with Izaya even if they didn’t formally get introduced. At least meeting this way he knew what to expect.
The rest of the day flew by mostly due to the fact that Shizuo wasn’t paying attention. The blonde was trying to remember what exactly was going to happen the moment he would step onto the field. He remembered trying out for the soccer team or at least trying too? Seven years was a lot longer than he realized. Outside of meeting Izaya the rest of that day was kind of a blur for him but as the last bell rang he made his way through the halls once more.
He completely forgot about the various groups of people that had surrounded him when he made his way down. Shizuo only shrugged and guessed there were some things that even with knowing the outcome he couldn’t change. It wasn’t like the waves of people attacking him were a problem anyway. He cleared through them quickly with little to no effort and significantly less property damage than before. Glaring back at Izaya he could tell that he was intrigued, his stupid shit eating grin made the blonde sick. Shizuo grit his teeth should he still lunge at the bastard? If he did then Izaya would pull out his knife, maybe Shizuo should take it from him. The blonde laughed at the thought and decided it's worth a try. Izaya was clapping at the display of strength as Shinra started introducing him.
“Meet Izaya Orihara, from our junior high and well he’s a pretty good guy, eh to be honest he’s not really good at all.”
“That isn’t nice, Shinra” the raven added in a playful tone .
“No, no I meant that in a good way.”
Shizuo growled glaring at the soon to be informant “You piss me off.” he saw Shinra stiffen but Izaya gave him a smirk that was all too familiar “Oh yeah~ Too bad. I was thinking you and I could have some real fun together”
“Shut up.” Shizuo turned away to take a breath and prepare himself waiting for his cue. He was really going to do this.
“Now why you gotta be like that, Shizu-chan~”
Turning around he jumped at the flea. The blonde's right hook narrowly missed Izaya’s face smashing straight into the metal fixture the raven haired boy was sitting on. Of course Izaya jumped out of the way but Shizuo pivoted fast enough to grab onto the shorter boy's wrist catching him by surprise as he pulled him onto the tips of his toes using his free hand to take Izaya's knife away. Izaya was shocked for a moment but regained his composure as he pulled another knife from his pocket still managing to slash Shizuo like he originally intended. The blonde let go of his wrist, stepping back. It stung slightly but not enough to be concerned with the injury. He frowned, remembering that this was the first of many ruined white button ups he would cycle through because of the damn flea.
“See now isn’t this fun? I can’t believe you managed to take my knife.” Izaya’s smile grew wide, clearly enjoying the unpredictable action. “Rather smart move for a monster~”
“Damn you, why do you have two of them!” Shizuo was starting to reach his breaking point as he crushed the knife in his hand, shattering it into pieces not caring if it cut up his hand in the process. “Of course a protozoan like you wouldn’t think to have a back up plan. You can’t punch your way through life you know.”
It was amazing what a couple of years could do to a person, had he had the same mentality as he did when he was 16 he would have immediately gone ballistic at his words. At least he could say that he had physical restraint to some degree. Izaya sighed frowning as his favorite knife fell out of the brute's hand “I guess I spoke too soon. I’d hate to cut this short but I have other more important things to be doing with my time.”
With that Izaya took off and the chase began. They bobbed and weaved through the busy streets as Shizuo vaguely recalled where they were before he slowed his pace. Izaya must have heard his footsteps soften behind him because he turned around in time to see Shizuo reach out to him but it was too late there was too much distance between the two of them. Shizuo could only watch as the small informant collided with the truck that was originally meant for the blonde.
---
The sun was just starting to rise sending golden rays streaming into the room. It felt colder this morning but it was probably because the blanket was falling off the bed. Whatever the case was, Izaya knew something was off about this morning but it could just be the lack of sleep. He’d been neglecting sleep for the past few days now he was too enthralled with his work to notice. He shifted to grab for the blanket but pushed himself up forcefully as his eyes widened in shock. This wasn't his apartment in Shinjuku, he was in the bedroom of his childhood home. Izaya scrambled to grab his phone staring at the date as he wrapped his blanket around his shoulders.
April 23
Now there were several reasons that the 23rd of April had some kind of significance. If you asked a playwright they would probably say how poetic that it was the birth of William Shakespeare who was most famous for his tragedies. Izaya grinned to himself, stepping in front of his mirror taking a look to see if his hunch was true and sure enough his 15 year old self appeared in the reflection. The irony in the date would be that, today he would meet the truly unpredictable protozoan. Today was the day that he would meet Shizuo Hewajima. He knew everything that would happen today and it was all in his control. All of it planned to the tee, just like it was several years ago.
So how did it end up like this?
Everything blurred and Izaya’s entire body throbbed, he could barely keep his eyes open. His thoughts were mottled almost as if a camera was taking still images of his life. He remembered running from Shizu-chan, weaving easily through slightly busy streets until he couldn't hear the brute behind him. He tried to stop in his tracks and turn but the momentum pushed him forward. This is where his mind goes blank, only registering vague images.
Shizu-chan's shocked expression seemingly reaching out to grab him
Shizu-chan hovering over him with a worried expression while he was suddenly on the ground
And lastly Shizu-chan aggressively confronting an older man lifting them by the collar of their shirt
The next time he was able to open his eyes for longer than a snapshot he saw the blonde sitting with his arms crossed in a chair on the other side of the room. Izaya watched the blonde’s chest rise and fall waiting for him to move but his breathing was even and his eyes were closed, presumably he was asleep. The informant frowned as his mind sifted through the recent events. It didn't make any sense to him. He did everything exactly the same as before, how could the tables turn and moreover why did Shizuo help him?
When the shoe was on the other foot he just left him there but despite clearly angering Shizuo, the beast still helped. He was interesting and unpredictable even if Izaya thought he knew what would happen in the future. Although he did notice when Shizuo was taking out the wave of gang members it was clear he was trying to avoid doing too much damage like he was holding back but Izaya didn't understand why. It's not like the protozoan cared, in the past he went ballistic off the mere sight of the raven haired teen. What caused him to pull back? The informant was determined to get to the bottom of this. He wasn't fond of not knowing things especially when it came to Shizu-chan, someone had to keep tabs on the brute.
Izaya peered to the doorway closing his eyes with a groan as Shinra walked in. He didn't want to hear it. The way Shinra's face lit up looked like every fiber of his being was saying, I told you so. Shinra looked too smug and cheery for the situation.
“How’re you feeling? Shizuo said you were hit by a truck.” Izaya tried to sit up but it was proving to be a challenge. “Everything hurts.” he said flatly, breathing heavily. He felt winded from sitting up. “Well yeah, to reiterate, you were hit by a truck. I was surprised there was no real internal damage. You did a number on your ankle though.” Izaya shifted and winced at the pain, this was going to be annoying. He wasn't kidding when he said he had important matters to tend too. It wasn't easy to become the informant he was. Not to mention how was he going to play with Shizu-chan like this? He glared at the sleeping monster, this was all his fault after all.
“You should probably stay here for the night. There's no way you could make it home like that anyway." Shinra was smiling at him and it was kind of creeping him out. "Oh yeah? Watch me, I'd rather not be here when he wakes up." Izaya pointed to the blonde as he heard him grunt in annoyance "Who said I was asleep ya damn flea"
Shizuo had been resting his eyes trying to make sense of what happened. Trying to figure out why Izaya got hit instead of him. Ultimately he boiled it down to the few seconds of him taking the knife away that delayed him from being hit instead. Although this caused Shizuo to panic after Izaya collided with the vehicle not expecting the flea to be caught off guard like that. Seeing the raven haired teen lay there almost lifeless on the floor was surreal and it made him more angry and he didn't know why but to be fair his entire day was a mystery. At the same time he was relieved that he didn’t have to relive getting hit by that truck. Despite seeming physically indestructible he still felt pain, and that shit hurt. That was something he would never forget.
Izaya flinched before returning to his casual smirk not expecting Shizuo to be listening. "You heard Shinra, I won't be able to play with Shizu-chan. You can leave now."
"Yeah whatever." Shizuo stood up and stretched, sounding completely uninterested. "Just making sure you were alive." he grinned walking over to Shinra patting his shoulder as he walked past.
"Ooo~ careful that sounds awfully human of-."
Shizuo cut him off "So I can kill you myself" he waved the flea off and left, saying goodbye to a confused Celty as he made his way home.
Shinra gulped shifting his glasses at the exchange knowing just how dangerous the two could be individually. He feared it might have been a mistake introducing them. At the same time he had noted how docile Shizuo had been acting all day. Shinra whined all the same "So much for my best friends becoming friends. Oh! That reminds me." He clapped his hands together, turning back to Izaya who was smirking to himself. "Shizuo knew your name prior to me telling him." His eyes narrowed at the raven "You didn't meet him before I introduced you, did you?"
"Ah, turns out I'm not the only one who remembers."
Izaya shook his head breaking from his thoughts to answer "Now why would I go out of my way to set up a grand entrance if I already met the guy. Honestly you wound me, there would be nothing to gain from that. You of all people should know by now that’s simply not how I operate" He smiled very light heartedly but continued "I swear we've never met, maybe my reputation precedes me."
Izaya felt giddy, this was an interesting endeavor and only time would tell how things would fall into place. It’s not like he could do anything to help his current state and time travel has never been an area of his expertise nor had he ever thought about it in great detail. He wouldn't waste time entertaining the idea of such fantasies but he does believe everything happens for a reason and he was going to enjoy finding the reason for this.
---
The walk home was surprisingly calming for Shizuo, he couldn't help feeling nostalgic. It was nice to go see his childhood home and his family. Sure at anypoint he could visit his family but it wouldn’t be the same, nowadays Kasuka was busy and Shizuo didn’t want to be more of a burden than he already was. He wanted to support his little brother even if that meant leaving him alone though he could stand to visit his parents more but he never knew how to act around them since he became an adult. There was no way he could truly express how grateful he was for everything they’ve done and everything they had to endure because of his uncontrollable temper.
“This is it.” Shizuo thought, laying in his bed as he made it through the day. Once he went to sleep this would all be over and he could go back to normal, working his day job and chasing around the real flea.
The next morning Shizuo grimaced
“Well Shit.”

Ooh 👀 You read Hell's Paradise?? Who's your favorite characters by so far
I finished it last night ;—-;
Gabimaru is THE fav of course. I can’t help it. He looks like Tomura (but is absolutely nothing like him). His internal struggles, his relationship with Sagiri, and his focus on getting back to his wife were just chefs kisses as a character.
After that though it’s hard to organize into an order. I love everyone who became the main cast, as in the group we stuck with the most. Sagiri, Fuchi, Shion, Nurugai, Yuzuriha, Chobe, Toma, Gantetsusai, and I love little Mei. I bolded the ones that got me very emotionally invested in their dynamics with their partners.
The only one who doesn’t quite fit this category is Jikka. They don’t get introduced until way closer to the end, but fhey’re exactly the type of character I can never help but liking in the end.
They’re in the same category as Shigure from Furuba. Izaya from Durarara, and Mephistopheles from Blue Exorcist. Jikka is now on this list. That guy who is suspiciously too easy going and there’s something weird about them and you can’t tell whose side they are on until the very end when they are like, THE mastermind and the reason everyone is okay in the end (Izaya is the reason everyone in drrr is miserable, he’s an outlier).
Jikka used their position and got everyone what they wanted which I just love, so they’re a fav.
I couldn’t really get super attached to any of the Tensen, but I did enjoy Rien at the very end with what turned out to be her true motive and how it tied to Gabimaru, and how she responded to him. I loved that.
I just loved the Samurai/Convict bonds that this manga centered around, and I loved Gabi and Yui with what little we got to see of them together. I’d kill to see more of their happy life tbh lol but all I needed was a happy ending, a reunion, and confirmation that everyone was okay afterward even separated, and I got that. So 10/10.

watched the first two episodes of oshi no ko a while back (REALLY FUCKING GOOD, ive been a manga reader for a while but i stopped reading the recent chapters and basically forgot everything except for the major points and god it’s so satisfying to have the adaptation remind me of what i’ve forgotten in the most beautiful way possible)
but this post isnt about onk, it’s about izaya!! izaya orihara!! lets fucking goooooooooo izaya idol au!!!! i cant get this flea out of my BRAIN
i was about to open a new canvas to draw some more shizaya stuff for my animatic that im never gonna finish and i was like huh. maybe i should draw onk fanart. and then i remembered this art of venti genshin impact with ai’s eyes and i remembered thinking man i hope this becomes an artist trend for people to do with their art blorbos! and then i was like OH. guess i could contribute to the trend by drawing izaya with ai’s eyes
and then i started thinking and i was like huh. Ai’s never experienced love from her parents, doesn’t think she knows how to love or how to express it, doesn’t get attached to others easily, is a perpetual liar, became an idol because she hoped she would learn how to love - oh hey doesnt. that. sound like izaya. just a little bit. not exactly, her character goes into more learning how to love/that she can love while izaya’s character is i can love but only impersonally because i’m afraid of getting hurt and his arc would be learning to let his walls down for his own good
SO for izaya idol au, izaya would become an idol because he wants to experience love, or something along the lines of “there’s no greater demonstration of parasocial love and foolish decision making than in the idol industry! ahaha~” and probably “idols are perfect liars and i need to put myself into their shoes so i can become an even better liar and close myself off to any possibility of falling in love that could ever exist”
there’s a lot of reasons he might want to become an idol, really. there’s so much corruption and behind-the-scenes dealing and lies and facades and shit in the entertainment industry that i think izaya would eat for breakfast. he would LOVE witnessing that shit and making his own shady deals and stuff and occasionally ruining lives and watching people rise and fall down the rankings and tear each other down. plus the people who are in it for passion rather than money are fascinating as well. psychology student’s dream really- i mean what this is definitely about izaya and not me projecting
plus he definitely has the looks for it (narita would hard agree given how many times he’s indirectly called izaya attractive through other characters. we love a canonically hot king)
now i need to make everything shizaya because i’m not okay but i have no idea who shizuo would be lmao
like you could make him some up and coming manager (no age difference stuff here sorry lmao) or a fellow idol (doubtful. shizuo can act cute but i dont think he could dance) or an actor like akane/kana or a streamer??? like memcho (my favorite character)
a mangaka/screenplay writer/writer in general could also work but i feel like you’d have less reason to interact with idols that way
idk how japanese idol groups work for men in particular or if there’s even like a market for that :sob: id have to look into that if i actually started making stuff for this au
alternatively izaya crossdresses as a female idol and somehow no one realizes. except for shizuo. that would be hilarious actually. he refuses to do swimsuit modeling or other provocative stuff and his fans are like “oh?? the brazen kanra-chan is unexpectedly shy?? how cute” and he plays into it but inwardly he’s like. god i know exactly how im gonna go out with a bang when i retire. and shizuo watches him playing at being shy on tv knowing that that motherfucker is planning to strip on his last days as an idol
anyway this is just me spitballing ideas but ill definitely write at least a concept/intro fanfic of this at some point so stay tuned lmAo im just about to run out of writing juices on ABAON so i gotta transfer my energy somewhere else and where better than the idol!izaya au
#shizaya#idolzaya#ill be using that tag for whatever idol au stuff i come up with#i drafted this like. five days after the onk anime came out#this has been drafted for way longer than i wanted it to be#this was also sorta inspired by the idol!kim dokja au fic that’s really popular#i think the male idol industry is way stronger in korea than japan thiugh#that said i dont interact with idols at all personally lmAOO so i have no idea#i will do research later i promise#and read more of more more jump!’s stories for inspiration PFF#i wonder if izaya’s group should be a bunch of drrr girls or like. mostly irrelevant side characters#or if he should just go solo which again. i need to research how hard that would be#i feel like he might want to blend in a bit inside a group#would be fun to observe the jealousy and drama and group dynamics up close too#because if they get jealous of HIM at any point he might just laugh until he dies#i have more ideas but i should save those for the fanfic….#anyway#izaya orihara#shizuo heiwajima#durarara#im excited for this one bro oshi no ko is one of my favorite series ever#but like. not for the romance just because i really like learning about the entertainment industry LMAOO#i dont ship aqua with anyone tbh#can he just be besties with everyone pls#i loved his and kana’s relationship in the beginning where they’re like two good actors in a room full of mids#that was a fun dynamic but it just went downhill for me personally#oh well i can talk about this in my author’s notes pff

Agency informant Izaya
Atsushi was surprised when Izaya approached him, asking if he cared to get lunch with him.
The two weren't strangers but they hadn't exactly interacted much.
Atsushi would've usually declined, the Headmasters death was still fresh in his mind. He wasn't in the mood to socialise.
However the office was going to be empty soon enough. And more than anything Atsushi didn't want to be alone.
So he agreed.
Though he was confused when Izaya asked if he wouldn't mind pushing his wheelchair.
Of course Atsushi didn't mind, but he'd never seen anyone else do it.
Izaya was patient, even teasing him at how much Atsushi was concentrating on the task, but it was never malicious.
He paid for their lunches, waving off Atsushi's insistence to pay for himself. Before the two headed to the park and settled in a quiet area.
"Atsushi, it's alright you can ask." Said Izaya, Atsushi was both relieved and slightly embarrassed that the other could see the confusion on his face.
"Why did you bring me out here? I mean, not that it's bad or anything! But... Why?"
Izaya chuckled "I figured you could do with some fresh air. You weren't concentrating on your work as much as usual. And your hands were shaking."
Atsushi blinked, looking down and only just now noticing.
"That's why I asked if you could push my chair. I figured holding onto something would help. And trying to keep me from crashing into someone would give you something to focus on."
He sighed "that, and having someone holding the handles stops random people from grabbing them."
Atsushi's eyes widened.
"People do that?!"
Izaya nodded, not at all surprised that's what Atsushi had chosen to focus on.
It was kind of sweet, seeing him mad on Izaya's behalf.
"But other than that, I heard about... Everything that happened and I wanted to say something."
Atsushi nodded, he'd assumed as much. It wasn't exactly a secret after all.
Even if it was, Izaya would probably be one of the first to know. He was very much in everyone's business, even without trying too.
Such was the life of an informant.
"Now, you don't have to listen to me. Say the word and I'll be quiet, we can eat and go back like nothing happened."
Atsushi was tempted to say yes, he really didn't want to talk. But he was curious as to what Izaya would say.
"No it's okay."
Izaya nodded before going silent in thought.
He was someone who knew more than most the power of words, he could sharpen them like knives and cage people with them.
It's why Izaya made such a show of giving Atsushi a way out. It's why he spent the next minute trying to put his words together.
It's something Atsushi had grown to appreciate.
"I can't speak for father figures, my father is alive last I checked and barely knows I exist. But what I do know, is what it's like to be chained by your memories."
Izaya rested his hands on his lap, looking at the lake nearby.
That in itself was a show of trust, Izaya always kept eye contact with people. Atsushi had always figured it was due to his ability.
And yet he trusted Atsushi to take his eyes off him.
"We met in school, a mutual friend introduced us. It was hate at first sight. I hated everything about him. And he felt the same.
But somehow fate intertwined us together. We were each other's greatest monsters.
But I was always worse, I ruined every job he could get his hands on. It was a miracle he found something, and everytime we'd get near each other we'd fight and chase like cat and mouse."
Izaya didn't talk much of the past, but he had made it clear he hadn't been a kind person. He was someone who ruined lives, destroyed people who got near him.
Hearing it was something else.
But Atsushi didn't hold against him, he didn't care who Izaya had been.
But who he was now.
The Izaya who took him out for lunch because Atsushi was upset. The Izaya who talked him through cases and cheered when he got things right.
His friend.
"And than... Than it came to an end. One final fight, and I lost. By all accounts, I should have died.. but somehow I'm still alive. Not that he knows, no one does."
Atsushi takes his hand in his and Izaya realises that he's shaking. It's been so long since he's dared think of him of the past.
But he can't stop.
"Did you know that by all accounts, I should be able to walk?" Asks Izaya, rhetorically.
"There's nothing wrong with my legs, not now anyway, but I can't walk. Because I don't believe I deserve too."
Atsushi's blood ran cold.
"I used to run around and ruin people's lives for my own entertainment. I thought of humans as my own little toys. I was the most feared man in that city, it's a reminder of what I am.
That I deserve what happened to me, and to never become that person again."
Izaya looks at Atsushi, his smile soft and kind.
"When I was released from hospital, I had a panic attack at a sunglasses hut. I screamed at a blonde bar tender." He laughs but it's humourless.
"I lay awake at night afraid that my legs won't be the only thing that stop working. Sometimes I'm afraid he'll find me, that he'll finish the job."
Tears welled up in Atsushi's eyes and he pulled Izaya into a hug.
Izaya blinked in suprise before hugging him back. Not realising his own tears are falling.
"I can see him, sometimes... The Headmaster, insulting me and telling me I'm nothing." Says Atsushi, voice breaking.
Izaya held him closer, running a hand through his hair like he would do for his sisters when they were younger.
"Your not alone in this, that I can promise you." He says. Atsushi sniffles "your not alone either... And you don't deserve this either."
And while Izaya doesn't believe him. Not one bit, he's thankful all the same.
He doesn't deny that he feels somewhat lighter, and he knows Atsushi feels the same.
This doesn't fix everything, but it's a start. And here in this park they aren't the beast of calamity or the most feared man in Ikebukuro.
They were simply Atsushi Nakajima and Izaya Orihara, detective and informant of the Armed Detective Agency.
And that was more than enough.
"Thank you."
"Your welcome, Atsushi."

Working on a fic rn that is killing me, I GOTTA talk about it. Imagine ftm Izaya being asked by Shinra and Celty to be their surrogate bc their options are limited and they assume he wouldn't be able to get attached to the baby bc of his aspd and general disposition (unfair assumption on their part) Izaya only agrees bc he can't stand the idea of disappointing Shinra and proceeds to go through the mental anguish of dysmorphia and carrying a baby that's not even his that he wants to love so much
i. man. ive been presenting this ask to my friends all day because this is such a good fucking idea. this is perhaps the best drr fic of all time by my personal ranking (which also happens to be the correct ranking) and i thought id give you a couple fun little bits of informed mation that could possibly help you with this fic :) one of them is surrogacy related the other is aspd related
SO!!! the first thing i did was show my fiance and i said, well, izaya could keep the baby if he wanted, surrogacy laws are in his favor. but then i thought..... are they? because i was basing that off surrogacy laws in the us..... so i googled it!
surrogacy in japan is um, Extremely Controversial! first off, surrogates do have legal guardianship of the baby, the parents who want the baby have to go thru a formal adoption process, and if it goes to court, courts would most likely side with the surrogate.
BUT!!!!!! the welfare of the child is explicitly stated to be the first and foremost concern. at the end of the day, a married couple could very well win over a single man, especially a single man with antisocial personality disorder, if his diagnosis is on record anywhere. (of course this is all dependent on whether or not izaya GOES to court, and if celty can keep her helmet on and pose as a mute human woman)
either way, this all but confirms that shinra would be izaya's obgyn. imagine at every checkup, shinra is cooing over how well his baby is doing, completely oblivious to how upset izaya is <3 did u know that if you're trans and you get pregnant, you have to stop taking your hrt? too much testosterone can cause miscarriages- very high levels of natural T is actually why i'm infertile </3 so that can be a little extra angst for izaya~ <3
NEXT! THING!!
let me introduce u to the concept of aspd exceptions <3
it's..... kind of like the aspd version of a pwbpd's favorite person? kind of? not really
it's like. sometimes, for one person, the aspd will not be aspding. they're... literally the exception to how your symptoms work. things like empathy and yeah even remorse will work within like, normal operating levels. it's kind of weird tbh and kind of distressing? like, since you're not used to these emotions being there, especially with how strong they are, you have no way to cope with them. it sucks major ass and while it can being people closer together, it also sucks major ass. like.... if you never felt remorse before, suddenly feeling remorse over something you commonly do just because you did it to one Specific Person, leaves you with this very strong, very bad emotion, that you have no way to cope with!
and its not just remorse too, things like empathy fire off at full cylinders, so like... if ur used to just using cognitive empathy and logicing out things, imagine how much itd suck to suddenly be ass blasted by Functioning Normally Affective Empathy
anyway there's this one lady on tiktok who has aspd, and she talks about aspd symptoms a lot. she has a young child, and that child is her exception
get what i'm getting at here? ;) imagine izaya going thru all this then, while already distressed, dysphoric, and hormonal, shit like EMPATHY and strong STRONG emotional ties started kicking in wrt his baby and now he has to deal with extremely strong emotions he is not used to!
(and in case ur wondering, yes i do have exceptions, but who it exactly IS changes from time to time and the feeling ebbs away over time too so sometimes i don't have one)
anyway!!! i love this fic already. PLEASE dm me i need to go absolute ham over this with you. please. please . i can introduce u to my friends so thats like. 3 friends for the price of one
please tell me this ends happily i do not think i would be able to handle it if it did not. please. i am crying and begging and pissing . please.

Thank you for the Makima food, I read it after finishing work so I felt like I was blessed when reading it!
It was super cute but with an eerie undertone only Makima is capable of. I was on edge in multiple ways while reading. You captured her energy perfectly! I also love how you subtly incorporated her abilities and manipulation
out of curiosity, do you have plans to write for any other csm characters?
Again, thank you so much for writing this masterpiece! Take care of yourself!
i'm glad that you enjoyed my first attempt at writing makima, thank you so much!!!!! i feel like i've added yet another morally ambiguous/manipulative character to my silly little list of favorites. she gets to be there alongside bastards like izaya orihara, makishima shogo, chrollo lucilfer, and johan liebert. i really... have a type, don't i? lord have mercy.
'super cute but with an eerie undertone' was exactly the vibe i was aiming for!! from what i can tell, she plays favorites with certain people, expressing fondness in borderline dehumanizing ways. i don't think there are any outright malicious intentions on her behalf, it's just the only way she knows how to express herself. it makes for an interesting dynamic.
it's a relief to know the usage of her manipulation abilities came through without being too on the nose HJTEKGRM i wanted to make reader think about it more to point out that there might be something more at play than makima just being convincing, but i felt that'd be insulting your guys' intelligence . so i held to my original vision and i'm pretty content with how it came out!!!
as for if i plan to write for any more of the CSM characters... hm... makima has most of my interest at the moment, but i do have some ideas for power too. i just think she's neat.

“Oh, Shizu-chan~!” Was the ear grating sound that greeted the debt collector from an alley on his way home from work.
Brown eyes glared into red as he stopped and what little foot traffic was left on the streets vanished. “I thought I told you to stay the hell out of Ikebukuro, fucking flea.”
“Hmmm~ Just coming to collect from last Tuesday, Shizu-chan.” Izaya hummed from where he was leaning against the alley wall.
“You have my number for a reason, dumbass.” Shizuo snarled, looking around to make sure there weren’t any civilians stupid enough to still be in ear shot.
“You’re so much more fun when you’re pissed off, though. Now are you coming or not? I’m getting bored, Shizu-chan~” The brunette smirked.
‘This fuck bastard.’ The blonde felt a vein throbbing in his forehead. “And why would I give you what you want for being a bastard?”
“Where else is a brute like you supposed to get any?” Izaya laughed. “Who else is going to be kind enough to take pity on a protozoan like you?”
As if on cue, Shizuo’s patience snapped as he stalked past the brunette and grabbed him by the hood of his infuriating jacket to drag him away. Izaya smirked in triumph, but struggled for the effect of pissing the blonde off more.
“My point exactly, Shizu-chan.” He sighed as though the other was hopeless.
“Be happy I’m even giving you the dignity of dragging you back to my place instead instead of leaving you in the alley like the garbage you are.”
“Oh how kind,” Izaya laughed. “What’s this? The monster has an ounce of understanding about human kindness? It must be the end of the world, aye Shizu-chan~?”
“If I couldn’t feel the knife at my thigh, I swear to go I would kill you right now, stupid flea.”
They continued like this the few blocks back to Shizuo’s apartment and by the time the blonde literally threw the info broker through the open door, Shizuo was as pissed as Izaya had hoped.
Shizuo had a brief moment of realizing he had brought the flea to his house before brushing it off. This was one of the best info brokers in the whole of the underground in possibly multiple countries if the Russian was anything to go by. He could have easily met the blonde at his own door if he wanted.
“Let’s just hurry this up so I can throw you out.” Shizuo growled, beyond pissed as he undid his tie and worked on his vest. “Fucking flea.”
Izaya just grinned in a way that was supposed to appear innocent, but even he knew anyone would read as trouble. “What if I don’t want to anymore, Shizu-chan~? That was a pretty long walk after all.”
Shizuo stopped halfway through the buttons of his shirt to glare at the flea. “If you’re just wasting my time then get the fuck out. I’d much rather go to sleep.”
Izaya just snickered, unfazed by the glare he was shot. “Just kidding! I didn’t waste an hour just to piss you off and go home after all.” He hummed, tossing his jacket on the couch he had been thrown at.
“It wouldn’t be the first time, flea.” Shizuo huffed, finishing the buttons on his shirt.
‘Well my house, my rules. I’ll put the bastard in his place.’
“Hurry the hell up. The assholes today kept picking fights.”
“My my, awfully bold today aren’t we, Shizu-chan~!” Izaya hummed, throwing his shirt onto his jacket with his pants following quickly after. “Or maybe you actually want to fuck me today?”
Shizuo sneered in disgust as he got his belt off before he thought of something and held onto the belt as he tossed his pants off as well. “Not even if you were the last bastard alive. Now come on. My couch isn’t as big as yours.”
“Oooh~! I get to see Shizu-chan’s bed? How exciting!” The brunette laughed as he followed, toeing off his socks along the way.
“Shut up, stupid flea.” Shizuo growled, pointing to the bed. “Just lay down, bastard.”
Izaya, for once in his life, did as he was asked, though it still had as much dramatic flair as he normal as he bounced a little when he landed.
Shizuo just rolled his eyes as he dug around in his nightstand for lube before finally finding it and moving to hover over the flea.
They had set up a few rules when they ended up in this agreement. Kissing was fine, but no leaving noticeable marks. Avoid clawing if it could be helped otherwise don’t let it show. Cuddling depends on the mood. No knives involved unless pre-discussed. Lube always. Condoms depended on location since they were both clean. Listen to safe words always. No using kinks as blackmail. No letting it get out that this was happening, and lastly, no catching feelings.
Shizuo thought the last rule was stupid because fat chance, but he took advantage of the first rule now in order to distract the flea so he could follow through with his plan. He knew that was secretly Izaya’s favorite rule from how easily it shut him up, and he did just that when Shizuo leaned down and cut off whatever sarcastic comment was about to leave the brunette’s mouth.
While he had Izaya distracted, he moved his slim arms above his head and bound them to the slots in his head board with the belt. Shizuo was honestly shocked to find that Izaya didn’t even seem to notice, too caught up in receiving gentle affection for once in quite a while.
They really were touch starved weren’t they?
The flea’s lips were surprisingly soft so Shizuo decided to throw him a bone, giving the brunette a few more gentle kisses as he ran his fingers in his hair. Shizuo smirked into the kiss when Izaya seemed to realize the situation he was in and made a confused sound before nipping at Shizuo’s lip.
Shizuo leaned back with a chuckle. “Something wrong, flea?”
Izaya was pouting when he whined. “Shizu-chan~!”
“Somethin’ wrong, flea?”
“Why are my hands bound by your stupid belt?”
“Pretty sure this was on your Green List.” The blonde laughed, picking the lube back up to move down the brunette’s body. “‘S what you get for being a bastard. What? You have something to say about it?” He hummed, giving Izaya the chance to safe word if he needed to.
Izaya continued to pout, but didn’t safe word out. “You’re so mean, Shizu-chan.”
“Rich coming from you.” Shizuo shrugged as he lubed up his fingers before slipping one in.
“Ru- ah! Shizuuuu-chan~!” Izaya whined.
Shizuo just hummed in response, sounding unphased as he slid his finger in and out, drinking in the flea’s moans and whimpers.
It didn’t take very long for them to work up to two then three fingers, Shizuo making sure to spread Izaya open enough for neither to be too uncomfortable as the brunette continued to struggle with his restraints. He had this thing about clinging to Shizuo as much as possible, but with his knives left in the living room, it looked like that wouldn’t be happening tonight.
“Mmm~ Shizu-chan~ I’m good. You can stop prepping. Just get to the fucking part.” Izaya was panting, and that was probably the closest thing the blonde has heard to begging out of the smaller man since the drunken night that started this. Never will he ever trust a drink Shinra makes ever again.
“Which one of us is bound again? Really don’t think you’re in any position to be making demands.” Shizuo smirked as he lubed his cock now.
“What was that? The protozoan can think?! My what a mira-Ahhhh~ Shizu-chan~!”
Shizuo, in his annoyance, may have thrust in slightly more than he meant to but waited until he could see the flea was ready for him to move before moving any further. Once the brunette’s thighs started twitching, Shizuo inched in further little by little until he was eventually bottomed out.
“Ooooh~ Shizu-chan~ Full...Move, Shizu~”
‘He needed fucked that bad, huh? That has to be a record on him dropping the ‘chan’.’ Shizuo hummed as he gave a few shallow thrusts before properly doing what was asked of him, pulling out almost all the way before thrusting back in fully and picking up the pace as he went.
Izaya moaned loud, locking his ankles around Shizuo’s waist to try to get him as deep as possible. “Shizuuuu~ AhhhhAhhhh~ More~!”
‘He’s just as blunt in the bedroom as outside of it.’ Shizuo chuckled to himself as he leaned down to kiss the brunette again. He was slightly addicted to that part okay? For such a sharp tongue, Izaya had a really soft mouth and it was hard for him to hide any noises when they escaped right into the blonde’s mouth.
“Ha-Hey, flea? Do you ha-have any assignments tomorrow?” Shizuo panted into the smaller man’s mouth. He smirked when the other shook his head in response. “Perfect.” His stamina wasn’t just for chasing the flea after all.
Izaya looked up at the blonde in confusion before crying out when the blonde finally found his prostate  and continued to hit that spot almost every time once he did.
“AAAhhh~ ShizuuuUuu~! Ahhhh~!”
“Always so loud, Izaaaya.” Shizuo chuckles, drawing out the other’s name similarly to if he was chasing him around the streets.
This seemed to have an effect because Izaya shivered and his cock jumped.
“Like my voice like that, huh?” The blonde smirked.
“Release my hands so I can cOver your mouth.” Izaya glared at the blonde, trying to be as intimidating as possible with his arms bound, precum on his stomach, and a dick in his ass.
Yeah, not intimidating at all.
Shizuo just raised an eyebrow, giving him a chance to actually stop it but when all the brunette did was pout more he just redoubled his efforts instead.
Izaya tried to hide his face with a bound arm as he cried out, squeezing around the brute’s cock as he tried not to come too soon. He only outran the brute because he was fast, unlike Shizu-chan, stamina was not his forte and that was becoming embarrassingly obvious right now as his own dick practically drooled precum.
“Ahhhh~ Shizu~! Slow down~ Gunna cum!” Izaya whined into his arm.
Shizuo just responded by smearing the lube still left on his hand on Izaya’s cock and stroking it with his thrust.
“Shizuuuu~ N-AhhHhhh~!” Izaya came with a shout, splattering cum all over his abdomen before whining in overstimulation. “Shizuuuu…” He slurred.
Shizuo chuckled, pulling out to get a washcloth so the flea’s cum wouldn’t get on his comforter. After cleaning up a whining Izaya, he undid his belt from the headboard to help him rub circulation back into his wrists.
The brunette made contented noises before realizing Shizuo was still hard and eyeing the blonde’s dick suspiciously. “We’re not done are we, Shizu-chan?”
“Nope.” Shizuo hummed, popping the ‘p’ at the end.
Izaya groaned in annoyance. “Where do you want me, brute?”
Shizuo was honestly surprised Izaya even agreed to continue but thought about this for a moment. “All fours?”
“This is why you asked if I worked tomorrow.” Izaya muttered as he maneuvered himself into position, grabbing one of Shizuo’s pillows and putting it under his stomach. “Stupid, Shizu-chan and his stupid monster stamina.”
“I’ll choose to take that as a compliment,” Shizuo huffed, moving back behind Izaya to slide back in.
Izaya whined, still a little oversensitive, but the sooner they both finished the sooner he could use the over sized human heater so he just buried his face in Shizuo’s other pillow.
Shizuo didn’t really waste time taunting the brunette this time, knowing what he had planned would annoy him enough so just reapplied some lube and resumed the previous pace of fucking into the info broker hard and fast.
Izaya clawed at the pillow he was clutching, moaning into it whenever Shizuo found his prostate again.
Shizuo just kept it up, pulling Izaya’s head up by his hair a bit so he could hear the brunette’s sounds that he was blabbering into the pillow. “...Are you speaking Russian?”
Izaya flipped the blonde off from where he was still clutching the pillow, but didn’t stop his rambling even as Shizuo laughed.
“Fucked you so good you forgot Japanese, huh?” The blonde teased, a few grunts interrupting him as he neared his own climax. “Fuck....I’m close.”
Izaya muttered something in Russian that roughly translated to, “Then cum already.” Shizuo had no clue what the info broker said, but shit it sounded hot and Shizuo pulled out almost all the way and came hard, a decent amount dripping out of the informant’s hole as he did and more following him as he pulled out slowly.
Izaya apparently wasn’t as annoyed as Shizuo thought he would because a shiver wracked his small frame as he came again with a low moan.
‘Fuck, that’s kind of hot.’ Shizuo groaned as he collapsed next to the raven, reaching for the washcloth on the nightstand so Izaya wouldn’t have to lay in his own cum.
Izaya basically hissed in oversensitivity when Shizuo touched him, glaring at the blonde as he swiped the cloth. “No more touching until I’m ready to leech your body heat.”
Shizuo just smirked. “So you admit that you’re a leech.”
This just earned him the middle finger as the informant stubbornly used the walls and furniture to make his way to the bathroom.
“Stupid, Shizu-chan.”
“Back at ya, ya damn flea.” The blonde yawned, pushing the soiled blankets aside as he began to doze off.
Come morning he’d wake up to an armful of unnecessarily adorable informant and a crisis, but that was a problem for future Shizuo. Right now, he just wanted to sleep.
