absolute genius, gets high grades, focuses on school, DOES VIOLIN AND PIANO, wears the most concealing clothing, very mature

be prepared because your parents are about to relentlessly compare you to him

"aiyoh mc, why are you not like lucifer yet?! when he was your age, he was raising all his brothers on the streets after he fell from heaven, and what are you doing loh? smoking weed? doing cigarette? studying to be artist?"

during family gatherings, he is absolutely smothered in attention by all the aunties and uncles. most of the time sits with the parents instead of the kids and talks about whatever the fuck they talk about at the parents table

every other kid there gives him the death glare because these mfs KNOW he is loving the attention and the massive ego boost it gives him.

mammon: the disgrace

ok my southeast asian homies (and maybe south as well) we all know this mf

the main antagonist of the auntie gossip

often comes in the form of a sketchy uncle

has at LEAST two tattoos and one of them is probably a dragon (i am projecting my own disgrace uncle on to him so hard)

got in a lot of trouble for either scamming another relative out of money or gambling away their families money

smokes on the balcony during gatherings (if he's even allowed to go)

actually pretty nice and funny but nobody wants to be around him because hes a lowkey faliure. most of the older kids like hanging around him, but often dont stay around him too long as their parents are worried of his influence.

also he probably took up modeling which made the aunties hate him even more

eyes flick to mammon as he seats himself at the dining table, and he responds to them with a nervous smile. "mammon," one of the adults starts lowly, in a belittling tone that made him sick to his stomach. "didn't bring anything to the gathering, not even 古老肉..." they look at him before adding another taunt. "oh.. that's right.. you never learned mandarin, did you? nothing to contribute lah. always take, take, take with you. just LIKE WHAT YOU DID TO MY HUSBAND'S MONEY!!"

ruckus erupts as everyone on the adults table simultaneously starts yelling, as though the family tension built up over the past year head finally snapped.

Leviathan: the teenager

congratulations dude, you just got the most underrated type of asian at a family gathering.

doesn't get as much attention as lucifer due to being relatively mediocre and not as talented as him, but will occasionally his parents will flex his coding skills or an award he got at school.

doesnt really talk due to not much people at the family gathering being his age group, so he mostly sits in a very solitary corner of the kids table on an uncomfortably small plastic chair and plays games to pass the time.

SPEAKING OF GAMES

the moment the asian parents kick the kids off to the nintendo switch or wii u so they can freely argue about politics or whatever (im not sure im still stuck at the kids table 😭), this man completely shifts.

beats everyone MULTIPLE TIMES. makes them fucking bawl. oh my gosh its actually so funny.

the little kids hate him because he beats them so often in mario kart.

049 - Designed by my friend :). A Night/Sand hybrid who works on the Nightwing island as a doctor. Rumored to have hatched off of the island and therefore may have mysterious moon powers related to bringing back the dead, as patients who should have absolutely died are miraculously up and walking the next day...

035 - A theatre mask created by Skywings thousands of years ago for their plays. The mask itself heavily resembles that of a Skywing and Nightwing, though can't fit exactly into either. It is rumored the mask was cursed by an animus throughout its years, or perhaps was created cursed, and was eventually tossed away due to the Skywings animus paranoia. Now, this mask possesses dragons to use as it's host, and wanders across Pyrrhia causing various acts of mischief.

AU #1, THE LONGER ONE

Starting with legends

Diamond - A highly respected site director with some form of anomalous ability tied to her skill in running the site. Despises Vigilance because of The Incident(tm) and often let's her vengeance get in the way of being, yknow, actually good at her job.

Vigilance - Another site director who runs a completely separate site.

Arctic - The son of Diamond and the one originally deemed to follow in her footsteps and eventually take over her place as site director. However, on a mission he was set to oversee, he fell in love with Foeslayer, and ended up requesting and being allowed transfer to Vigilance's site because of it. He has dropped in the ranks since, and no one really knows what to do with him, so he wanders the site aimlessly and takes care of various administrative tasks.

Foeslayer - A member of MTF Nu-7 (Hammer Down), who is housed at a different site than usual members of her task force. Besides this, she's incredibly good at her job, and even more so when she gets together with Arctic. Though originally it was questioned if she should be demoted due to The Incident(tm), they decided against it.

Darkstalker - Housed and raised off site originally, bit eventually trained and educated into joining the Intelligence Agency, mostly due to his mindreading. Overall liked by his peers, but rises in the ranks scarily quickly. Some believe he may one day overtake Vigilance and become the new site director.

Clearsight - Originally a regular Nightwing, however was contacted by the foundation at a young age due to her studies into timelines being deemed knowledge she shouldn't access. When her powers were investigated they found she could be a valuable resource, and was immediately trained into being a researcher. Though she's incredibly nervous about this job, she's quite good at it, and doesn't have many complaints as it allows her to study anomalies based in the idea of timelines. Once she was moved to Vigilance's site, she specifically requested offices far away from the Intelligence agency, which brought suspicion, but was never investigated.

Aaaaanddd..present day!!!

Morrowseer - Site director of the site previously directed by Vigilance. Highly respected and feared.

Moonwatcher - Raised specifically for the job of working at the foundation, due to being Morrowseer's daughter. She never knew her mother and when she was deemed old enough (her late teens) was ranked as a trainee in the Scientific department. However, on just her first day, she hears distant whispers of a past foundation employee trying to communicate with her..only to find out it's one of the long deemed "Safe" SCPs they've had unconscious in containment.

Kinkajou - Researcher trainee specializing in biohazards, though there's debate on if she should be moved to an MTF department.

And yeaajhhh!!!! THERES MORE TO THE AU, BUT I THOUGHT A LITTLE BIT OF INFODUMPING ON THE BASICS WOULDNT HURT :)

Well, a long while back there was this race around the city, and the winner got what I thought were the real Peaches of Immortality but was actually–”

“But you didn’t say you made that mistake.” Red Son jabbed a finger into MK’s chest. “You said we did. The only people in that race were you, the Dragon Horse girl, and the Demon Bull Family. So how did we make that mistake?!”

MK stumbled on the floor, falling flat onto his ass. He stared up at Red Son, chuckling awkwardly. “Uh, well, I just-I guess I just-uhh-I don’t know, I’m tired, and it probably slipped out, there’s nothing to it, you don’t have to worry about it Red S-RED! Red, Red, it’s no big deal–”

MK was panicking, stumbling on his words, unable to look Red Son in the eye. It only confirmed what Red Son had begun to realize.

“You know who I am, don’t you?” He looked down at MK.

THE HAIR-WASHING SCENE IN GENUS DATURA

First off this is funny af definitly the kinda shit i would write

“Alright. I know you just told me you hate water,” MK turned Red Son, clasping his hands together with a strained smile. “But, I’m going to need you to get into the tub.”

Red Son’s eyes went wider than noodle bowls. He turned his head to look at the tub, now nearly filled with water. MK could see Red Son’s mouth hang ajar as he turned back to face him.

No, not face him. Red Son was looking behind MK, but why would he do that? All that was behind MK was the door-

Red Son scrambled for the exit on all fours.

It took several minutes of shouting and chasing the surprisingly slippery Red Son around the bathroom before MK finally grabbed him. MK latched his arms around Red Son’s waist and pulled him from the ground. Red Son screeched, trying to pry MK’s arms off him. His skin was so hot it hurt to hold him, but at this point MK didn’t care. With a mighty heave, MK tossed Red Son into the bath.

The water splashed out the tub, covering the tiles in a thin sheen. Red Son floundered for a bit, thrashing his arms and legs beneath the water’s surface before emerging with a loud gasp. His ponytail had lost all its gravity-defying heat, now clinging to the back of Red Son’s neck. Red Son shuddered, aggressively trying to wipe the water off his steaming arms.

HE SCRAMBLED ON ALL FOURS LMAO I CANT I COULDNT BREATHE WHEN I FIRST READ IT

The moment MK’s fingers touched his scalp, Red Son flinched. MK moved his hands away, worried that he hurt Red Son, only for him to let out a whine. “Why’d you stop?!”

“Sorry, sorry, I’m not stopping!” MK laughed. “But, really, you gotta let me know if this is too much for you.” He ran his hands through Red Son’s roots. He could see Red Son’s face scrunch up in surprise, but he didn’t seem uncomfortable. In fact, as MK continued to work the shampoo into Red Son’s hair, he seemed to lean into the touch, his breaths becoming slow, heavy, and relaxed.

As MK leaned Red Son’s head back to get a better angle, Red Son stared up at him with sleepy eyes, blinking slowly. There was a small, content smile on his face. MK didn’t think he’d ever seen that expression on Red Son’s face before. Red Son’s smiles usually ranged from a maniacal grin to a hidden curl of his lip, but this felt softer, like Red Son’s inhibitions were being uncoiled with each knot MK untangled from his hair.

It occurred to MK, suddenly, how intimate this moment was. A blush ran up his cheeks at the realization, but Red Son didn't seem to care. He just grinned, dreamily at MK as he washed Red Son's hair.

This…was nice.

It was a bit overwhelming, sure. Red Son couldn’t remember the last time another person’s hands were running through his hair like this. Maybe when he was a toddler? Before he learned to wash himself?

But, it was nice.

MK’s fingers worked themselves into Red Son’s roots. Every now and then, his nails would scratch at his scalp and it’d send a shock down his nervous system. Red Son didn’t mind it though. He leaned into the touch, a lazy smile stretched on his face.

Red Son looked up at MK as he worked. His vision had blurred considerably from the crimson jimsonweed smoke, but he could recognize the Noodle Boy anywhere. He still had that ridiculous hair style, and that traffic-cone colored coat, and a grin that haunted Red Son’s lonely evenings. He was unmistakable.

What was MK doing here? He shouldn’t be here. He was supposed to be kart-racing with Mei right now. If MK was actually here, his parents would probably have found out by now, wouldn’t they? Or at the very least, one of the bull clones would have alerted the other staff. Not to mention, MK was supposed to our kart racing with Mei right now. There was no way he could possible be here.

But Red Son could feel MK’s hands working into his hair, couldn’t he? And MK had carried him up here, had cleaned his face, had thrown him into this atrocious tub full of water. MK was taking care of Red Son. When was the last time someone had taken care of Red Son? Since he was a child? Before he had to learn to care for himself?

It was so nice. Red Son could live in the feeling of MK’s care forever. It was certainly a good distraction from his burning skin, his foggy brain, the doom which whispered to him in stanzas of half-remembered puffy poetry about death from the crimson jimsonweed, about the images which haunted you into Diyu.

MK began to wash the shampoo out of Red Son’s hair, using one hand to pour water out of the basin and the other to block the soap from slipping down into his eyes. It was a small act, but one that showed a careful attention to detail that MK rarely showed to anything at all. It was the sort of sweet gesture that told Red Son he was cared for by MK, that he was loved.

And wasn’t that what had been haunting him for weeks now? Love?

“Oh.” He whispered. “I see.”

MK smiled down at him. “What’s up?”

The candles that hung on the bathroom wall seem to fan MK's face with warmth and light. It almost looked like the light was bursting out from him, like MK's body could only barely contain all the lights in the heavens. But, maybe that was just Red Son's delirious, slowly-dying brain seeing what he always thought of MK.

“I’m hallucinating.” Red Son murmured.

what's dragon age

AHAHA....HAHAHAHHAHA....AHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHA

so I'm not well versed in all three of the games that are out right now since i havent played through the other two besides inquisition yet so my explanation will be based on what i know through that game and just gen knowledge BUTTT

the dragon age series is a fantasy RPG made by bioware (they made mass effect and like a million star wars games) and each game is set at different times, each going in choronological order, which is IMPORTANT!! because the dragon age franchise has a feature called "tapestries" which are something seperate to the games where you choose all the choices you made from your playthrough in the games, and these choices once exported will actually EFFECT the next game in the series which is really fucking cool

the games are set in a world called Thedas, and there are four main races of people which are dwarves, elves, humans, and qunari. you can play as three different class types: warrior, mage, and rogue, which all let you specialize in their own skilltrees with perks that you slowly gain over time by doing quests around thedas (in inquisition at least, this is all very classic rpg game stuff)

the world of thedas is VERY written out and developed, with almost every character you find having their own story and opinions on everything around them. there are a few main groups of people in these games: the mages, the templars, the chantry, the qun, the dalish, as well as different districts of people based on race. theres also the Circle, the Divine, etc. theres a LOT!!! And as you wander through the games you can unlock a lot of books , journal entries, notes, etc. that let you learn EVEN more about the world around you. There are also several books that go into HEAVY detail about specific and non-specific characters, regions, foods, wildlife, etc. (i happen to own two :]) there are also story-specific novels based around certain characters.

the most recent game, inquisition, has you set in the Frostback Mountains in Haven, where you have been captured as a prisoner after being caught at the scene of the murder of the Divine, who was killed by an unknown evil creature. You awaken in the prison with a bright green mark on your hand, which you find out can seal "rifts", tears between the living world and what is known as The Fade. You then go on a journey of rebuilding what is known as "The Inquisition", a group of people to bring peace to Thedas if something were to happen to The Divine. You learn about your past, make new companions, fight against demons and deal with the rising fear and lashings out of both sides of a mage versus templar war.

The games each are about 30-40 dollars roughly with DLCs included, which i personally believe are ESSENTIAL to playthroughs of these games as they are packed to the brim with lore as well as amazing cosmetics like armor.

thoughts on playable faves getting older, the people who make them and the people who play them

because comfy tracksuit slider dad kiryu is peak character design

spoilers for ps2 Y1/K1, Y5, assumptions about Y6 + Y7 + Y8 + Yakuza Gaiden

why is RGG so afraid of Kiryu getting older? I havent played Y6 yet but I have a feeling RGG is ok with Kiryu being middle aged. They did show some uncomfortable feelings about him being single in his 40s on Y5, but him behaving as a more mature individual is there, same as the rest of the cast (yes, even Majima, lmao).

And i wouldnt go into this tangent if they hadnt dropped that Y8 footage

(correct me if im wrong, lmao) but it’s not often that people get to play franchises that span through decades of people’s lives, like (you guessed it) Yakuza. I love that. I had been avoiding the newest RGG trailers, and I still havent fully watched The Summit™️, but I watch highlights a couple weeks ago, and it took me some more time to work on this puzzle. Most Japanese people (and other ethinicities, as far as i know) look youthful well into their 50s, when compared to white people (I’m Brazilian, so I see the ethnic mix and match everyday (on my own body lol) and how that affects people’s looks). Of course there’s levels of overall self-care, sun exposure, yadda yadda. I’m fairly certain Kiryu doesnt have a skin care routine other than washing his face everyday lmao but he takes care of himself, he exercises constantly (lol), so that helps. His face is fine, awesome beautiful skin (even though i much prefer the Y5 style, compared to dragon engine botching everyone*, but he looks great). If everything is fine and dandy. Why is that a thing?

Not only are they still bringing him for 8, and we dont fully know what that will be like, but 7 was already a cameo, so giving him more screentime on 8 doesnt make sense at all but go off, i guess. We will never fully understand why RGG has been saying goodbye to Kiryu for 6 games already and not fully letting him go. I say 6 games bc I’m considering the last 6 mainline games (6, 0, K1, K2, I’d say Y7, and apparently 8?). Gaiden and Ishin are fine, and I’m so happy about those decisions. I honestly think it’s a much better decision to keep them in spin offs if they still want bank on his brand, and give space to new characters and adventures in the mainline games (and judgement!). But then I look at that grey haired mess and im so puzzled.

And we’ve joked about him looking like a boyband member, whatever that is. *We still dont know if that’s a disguise or a midlife crisis. And if it is a midlife crisis, and they actually take that angle of him struggling with age, i’d give them all the kudos. That would actually be a bold, beautiful move.

Is milking Kiryu just a marketing tactic, or is it something deeper within RGG? Again, correct me if I’m wrong, I’ve speculated about this before, about them being uncomfortable with their character’s age. But are they also uncomfortable with handing the story over to new characters? Do they feel trapped with Kiryu being the (middle aged, totally not elder) face of the franchise?* Or maybe theyre afraid the franchise is not gonna be relevant anymore because it isnt full of lolis and shotas? When that’s never been their goal in the first place? Yakuza has always been about having fun well into your 40s, because life isnt over once you turn 30. And japanese people fully know that. The west is very anxious about the teenage dream, the live fast die young mentality. Majima has that underlying feeling, he has talked about it here and there. And I would love if they went in on that. It’s not like Y7 wasnt successful, it was the introduction to so many people to the franchise. We know it made bank. We know people love Ichiban + the new crew. We know RGG is moving on. The bat has exchanged hands already. So Kiryu being on Y8, looking like that, on promotional material? It’s such a step back…

As of 2022, Kiryu is 54 years old. Majima is 58. There’s only so much flashbacking RGG can do so they can hide their anxiety about their mascot almost being an elder. Are they afraid of growing old themselves? NPCs have been calling Kiryu an old men since yakuza 1, and that did bother me bc *I was just playing as this baby on Y0, how dare you call him old? he’s 30 D: And I’m almost 30, so I understand my own qualms, so I can only imagine what goes on on the majority of the 50 yo department heads on RGG. And for gods sake, we know they can model awesome older characters.

The most beautiful model Kashiwagi has ever had is his Y7 one* (Sources are kinda confusing because apparently he was born in 1948? So he’d be 71 in 2019? I mean, good for him if true!! lol) (also yes, this is the asterisc. As far as I’ve looked, Kashiwagi is by far the character who’s aged the most beautifully. I cant do anything but clap lmao) Kazama is also very handsome, and he was born in 1945, so he is 60 in Y1/K1. A more apt comparison would be Sera, who was in his 30s in Y0 and 49 on Y1. He has some streaks, you know. And then there’s Kiryu, botoxed to the gods at 51 on Y8.

We know they can do this. Majima talks about being an old man in Y5, and he was 40 then. If you wanna tell me Majima dyes his hair black because he doesnt wanna see his reflection greying, I’m 100% ok with that. But it’s about time. We’ve been playing those characters for almost 20 years, we have seen almost 40 years of their lives. These are conversations we* could be having at this point, even if it’s substories. But not all hope is lost though!

I dont know if it’s the lighting, but his model on Gaiden does have some some grayish bits. And that’s 2018 (before Y8 even but we can let that slide bc technology, lol they can retroactively grey him). And given that Gaiden seems to be a lot more personal and small, maybe we could have that age talk then. I can only hope. TLDR: RGG. Buddy (lol). We are still gonna love Kiryu even if he’s no longer young (he is still beautiful). Please recognize the fact that we are all aging up, our bodies and our skin. And so are the characters we play with. Kiryu isnt gonna stop being a good avatar because he’s older. And also, let go. Ichiban is the new avatar. And people love him. Move on. We all have. If you (as people who make the company) are uncomfortable about getting older, use that opportunity to talk about that aging anxiety. We (the fans) will need that when we get to that point (whether we’re pushing 20, 30, 40, 70, 80). Because that white haired monstrosity needs to mean something, you couldve gone without it. Pls. Dont let that be a hair disaster like Y4 Saejima. You had the ps3 excuse then, you dont have that now, you know how to do hair lmao. Pls lmao

TLDR2: All I’m saying is. That white hair on the Y8 raises way too many unnecessary questions but then again Gaiden looks fine? I’m lost&confused pls help lol PS: I've rewatched Our Flag Means Death 4 times now (lol) and gray hair as a topic was never something I really thought about in entertainment, but when we think about ageless character on animation/games, I dont know, it seems like a relevant topic. Because, again, we've known Kiryu + Majima + the gang for almost 20 years. We've seen 4 decades of their lives. This is a longer timespan than... I dont know, british soap operas that go on for ages lol.

The Commander, Aurora Leuchtfeuer is my very first commander, the first guardian i actually ever played, one of my mains. i have a lot to say about them. here we gO

auroras backstory is actually fairly uninteresting??? i didnt change much about her story and kept it pretty close to canon, but here we go!

they were born into nobility and their family is from elonian descent. while their family has always been a rich one, they were a kind hearted nonetheless and would teach their two daughters about kindness and compassion. aurora was the younger one of the two by ten years. auroras sister, whom i havent found a name for yet, always had an interest in fighting, joining the seraph when she was 20 and aurora was 10. aurora had picked up that same interest too, but her parents would prefer to not give a child a sword.

her sister had promised to teach her some sword fighting once she came back from a mission- which never ended up happening. aurora was 17 when the family learned of their oldest childs death. she had died in battle, so they were told. this tragic loss only convinced auroras parents to keep their remaining child safe at all costs.

but now more than ever aurora wanted to learn how to fight for herself- and those she loved. in secret, she began practicing sword fight with a servant of the family whom she was close to. though that wouldnt quite pay off, as she wasnt even allowed to leave divinitys reach. any mention of wanting out was met with her parents begging to stay.

well SUCK IT PARENTS UR CHILD IS TOO GOOD OF HEART AND DUMB OF ASS TO LISTEN TO U so at the tender age of 21 aurora left the safety of divinitys reach when shaemoor was overrun by centaurs to help out and show what she had learned... and the rest is history.

the rest of their story plays out like canon story, though with some flavour mixed in. she found her sister, though ill have to work over that story a bit again, joined the priory and ended up getting caught up in a war against the dragons-

after killing zhaitan, aurora was scouted by a guild called Legend's Rise, and joined them shortly. members of that guild would help out during living world s1 too, yet aurora would leave the group when season 2 began, and the rest of the guild would live their own adevntures.

during her time with legends rise however, there was someone that may had been harder to leave behind than expected. Léa, a thief with a tough background, had found a liking in aurora, and the two fell in love for a while. their time together now just feels like a fling to aurora, if not something already forgotten. that whole... love thing had never been something that stuck with aurora anyways.

when they were younger, aurora was bright eyed and ready to jump into adventure, though aware of the dangers tyria could hold. she was healthy, ready to sacrifice whatever needed to keep her loved ones safe, and she gardually stumbled into chaos, her youthful innocence being chipped away.

there was a time where she was but a shell of her former self, during heart of thorns.

aurene changed that. aurene and aurora, arent those cute names. aurene brought a bit more light, more hope into aurora. lots of things changed. id still sit here tomorrow if i were to talk about their personality ups and downs in detail. the time they went from a guilt ridden lost soul into someone that was show something worth protecting again, just to then be drowned in dispair once again, and slowly growing to accept the darkness.

looking at aurora now, theyve changed a bunch, yet their desire to help still stays. theyve lost lives, lost limbs, lost gender, but gained a disturbing amount of morbid humor. im still working them out a bit, as their personality is a bit inconsistent at times, but theres just... SO MANY little details i could give about aurora, so much i want to tell, i wouldnt even know how to put all my thoughts into words,,

ALSO the way they changed over the years as an ingame character is a whole new can of worms i could open because she went through some of the most "intense" makeover kit adventures and also used to have a backstory that was so batshit crazy i wouldnt even know where to begin with that.

i think that is all i can say for now :) brains going brrzzrtrtzzzzz like a broken socket

I'm thinking very hard about Lithra post Inquisition and just,,, I wanna share because fUCK!!

Some majorish spoilers abound of course!! So be warned

Lithra Lavellan, not so much Dalish as she is Inquisitor, staring longingly out towards where she knows home is. Dreaming of the long days spent with her clan, wandering among the trees and plains she had grown up in. She feels a hole in her chest that cannot be filled, knowing that no clan awaits her anymore.

Lithra Lavellan of a dead clan, gripping the cloth on her chest and trailing a shaking hand down her scarred face- tracing the places where her vallaslin once were. Cruel meaning aside, she feels naked without it. Touching the now bare skin brings memories of warm arms and soft kisses, sweet whispered words telling her how beautiful she was, how loved. A love she felt burning like fire in her soul even then, a love that hurt more than the mark on her hand ever could.

Lithra Lavellan, feeling distinctly alone in a castle of her own making- surrounded by those who had become her new clan and closest family. A lonely and terrified elf, longing for the comfort of the arms of the one she loved above all others. How could it be that even the Fade itself had been soured in her mind? That the ever present comfort of that realm of magic felt more oppressive than anything else ever had.

And Lithra Lavellan- Inquisitor, Herald, Venhan- Lithra cries bitter tears for all she had lost. She cries for the lives so senselessly thrown away for a glory she had not wanted. She cries for the choices she made and the people effected by them. And she cries for Solas, for the love she felt so intensely thrown to the side for the sake of duty.

She cries until she can no longer, sorrow soon replaced by a silent promise to herself.

She would leave, never to be seen again until she was needed. She would come if called of course, but for now....

For now she would wander aimlessly across the lands she had helped save- if only to find some of the purpose she had lost oh so long ago.

i had the exact same experience with kingmaker, during the first few plotlines i was like lol this is so boring but then shit hit the fan and it got so good! also idk if you played wrath of the righteous but i highly recommend it it's even better than kingmaker

YEAH i think its bc its super subtle at first and such a slow burn, and its like once the wheels start turning theres no way to stop lmao. they really nailed the narrative tension of all of it too ! like i thought the bloom was stressful but vordakai and everything after that was like. bruh😐 tbh its the way rpgs SHOULD feel like!! can u imagine if dragon age inquisition felt even remotely as intense lol........ (also. maybe an unpopular opinion but i actually love the kingdom management system of pfkm and it reminds me of the dai table missions but like. actually good djdkskd)

i havent played wotr yet but i DEFINITELY will after this ! still mad at myself for not buying it while it was on sale but alas 😔✊

the magnus archives: horror podcast abt the head archivist of an institute researching experiences w the supernatural. protagonist is canonically biromantic asexual, in a mlm relationship in s5, and there is another canon bisexual character, as well as (iirc) a canon wlw couple - yall know ive been so into tma lately its so so good, obviously if you dont like horror its not for you but if you do.. 👀

sanders sides: youtube series abt a gay dude working out his emotional problems via personified aspects of his personality. all the characters are gay cuz thas what thomas is baby! - i was hesitant abt putting this cuz thomas is a person not a character lol but if u haven't seen sasi i recommend it its like free therapy but theres songs sometimes

julie and the phantoms (netflix remake): musical show abt a teen girl rediscovering music after her mothers death w the help of three ghosts who were in a 90s band. canon gay character w a slow burn romance (not yet canon bfs but s2 lets go) - its very cheesy and the musical segments can drag on a bit but its p good overall

lucifer: detective show abt lucifer abandoning his rule of hell to buy a nightclub and beginning to solve murders w the lapd. lucifer is canonically bi/pan, as is his demon pal mazikeen, but queerness rly isnt a focus of the show its more casual rep - that being said its a good show overall, if a little predictable now n then (s1-3 on amazon prime, 4+5 on netflix)

kipo and the age of wonderbeasts: fantasy cartoon set in a future filled w mutant intelligent animals, kipo finds herself lost and has to get home w the help of her friends. canon gay character as one of the mains, canon nb side character - its a rly good cartoon! lots of fun, excellent soundtrack, and the main characters are all poc which is rly nice to see

the dragon prince: cartoon abt two princes and an elf assassin returning a dragon egg to its mother. canon mlm couple, several canon wlw characters, canon nb character - i havent seen the show myself but ive heard very good things abt it!

i am not okay with this: netflix show abt a teen girl discovering she has superpowers and hating it. protag is canon wlw (i THINK shes a lesbian but i havent watched it in a hot sec), developing wlw relationship - ianowt slaps! sad that s2 got cancelled but s1 is real good its a touch spooky and theres a bit of gore/blood so watch out lol

schitt's creek: sitcom abt a rich family who lose all their money and have to move into the motel of a town they bought as a joke. canon pansexual character and canon gay character w one of the sweetest mlm relationships - a rly good witty show w excellent character development for every character!

good omens: show abt a demon and an angel trying to stop the end of the world. every celestial character in it is nonbinary, + crowley and aziraphale have a nonexplicit (ie no on screen pda lol) romance - good omens is such a good queer show none of the characters care abt gender in the slightest lmao, plus the show in general is fantastic (the book is also very good)

movies!

the old guard: a group of immortals fight an organisation that wants to capitalise off their immortality. canon mlm couple - another one i havent seen yet (i will!) but apparently very good

it chapter 2: horror sequel to It, w the main characters returning to derry to defeat pennywise for good. canon gay character in unrequited love - i only say chapter 2 because his queerness isnt referenced at all in the first film, again its big horror and theres no gay romance just gay tragedy but its a good film

love, simon: romcom about a closeted gay teen falling in love w someone over emails. do i even need to state the rep? - honestly if u haven't seen love simon yet what are you even DOING its so good proper fluffy queer romcom, the book (simon vs the homosapiens agenda) is also really good!! so is the sequel (leah on the offbeat) where the protag is a bi girl + it focuses on a wlw romance

the way he looks: brazilian coming of age film abt a blind teen boy falling for the new kid at his school. canon mlm relationship - this doesnt seem to be on (british) netflix anymore so idk where youd find it with subtitles but i rmr liking it a lot!

games!

night in the woods: 2d platformer abt a young woman (well. cat) dropping out of college and coming home to live w her parents + discovering spooky happenings in her hometown. canon mlm couple and i believe the protag is canonically bi? - i will recommend nitw to literally anyone who will listen its one of my all time favourite games, deals w a lot of mental health issues and its absolutely gorgeous w a brilliant soundtrack and rly good dialogue thats witty and serious and realistic (its on steam + switch for sure dk abt other platforms, abt 15 quid i think?)

tell me why: adventure game abt twins returning to their childhood home + findin Secrets. canon trans male character - i havent got around to buying + playing this yet but it looks really good! (its in three chapters + on steam, not sure on price)

the art of being normal: slice of life novel abt a young trans girl discovering herself. main characters are a trans man and a trans woman. - a good novel! trigger warning for transphobic actions including descriptions of a transphobic attack on the guy, and its certainly not without its faults otherwise, but i thought it was pretty good

the adventure zone: dungeons and dragons podcast by the mcelroy brothers. idk specifics but theres a lot of canon queer characters in it! - i havent listened to taz yet but i know a lot abt it, inc that its good and funny and has plenty of queer rep

You mentioned once that Dandelion knows Geralt pretty well and canonically managed to read him pretty well in at least one scene (the one before Geralt says Dandelion is uncomplicated.) Could you elaborate on that? I havent read the books yet and Ive got a point to prove to one of my friends

There are two sections where this is a big thing (in the short stories). The first one is in Posada (POSADA- VALLEY OF FLOWERS. THEY JUST MET) after Geralt agrees to look into the devil problem. Even though he just turned down a bunch of ‘jobs’ because the monsters don’t exist. And Devils don’t exist either.

“Knowing you a little as I do, I take it you haven’t abased yourself so as to get us bed, board and lodging, have you?”

“Indeed.” Geralt grimaced. “It does look as if you know me a little, singer.”

The other section is- well its kinda the entirety of A Little Sacrifice but the section I was talking about was this. I’m going to paraphrase cause it’s seriously two pages long. [oh wait i only paraphrase the first 3 paragraphs. I swear these boys but this is literally the scene your asking about so i don’t feel terrible about putting it all in.] There is SO MUCH DIALOGUE WHEN BOTH GERALT AND DANDELION ARE CHATTERBOXES. Thank the other iterations for saving my poor hands by making Geralt quiet. Note: They’re in bed together during this sequence.

“Hey Geralt. Essi is like a little sister to me. Don’t be a dick to her cause she likes you. Admit it, you like her too?”

“Even if I did like her I wouldn’t talk about it! Or write songs about it. Thanks for your words cause maybe you did save me from a stupid mistake. So drop it! GOODNIGHT.” [direct quotes after this point]

Dandelion lay motionless for a moment, saying nothing, but Geralt knew him too well.

“I know,’ The poet said at last. ‘Now I know everything.’

‘You know fuck all Dandelion’

‘Do you know what your problem is, Geralt? You think you’re different. You flaunt your otherness, what you consider abnormal. You aggressively impose that abnormality on others, not understanding that for people who think clear-headedly you’re the most normal man under the sun, and they all wish that everybody was so normal. What of it that you have quicker reflexes than most and vertical pupils in sunlight? That you can see in the dark like a cat? That you know a few spells? Big deal. I, my dear once knew an innkeeper who could fart for ten minutes without stopping, playing the tune to the psalm Greet us, greet us, O, Morning star. Heedless of his - lets face it - unusual talent, that innkeeper was the most normal among the normal...

“What does this have to do with Essi Daven? Could you explain?”

“Of course. You wrongfully thought, Geralt, that Little Eye was interested in you out of morbid, downright perverted curiosity, that she looks at you as though you were a queer fish, a two-headed calf or a salamander in a menagerie. And you immediately became annoyed, gave her a rude, undeserved reprimand at the first opportunity, struck back at a blow she hadn’t dealt. I witnessed it, after all. I didn’t witness the further course of events, of course, but i noticed your flight from the room and saw her glowing cheeks when you returned. Yes, Geralt. I’m alerting you to a mistake, and you have already made it. You wanted to take revenge on her for - in your opinion - her morbid curiosity. You decided to exploit that curiosity.”

“You’re talking rubbish.”

“You tried,” The bard continued, unmoved, ‘to learn if it was possible to bed her in the hay, if she was curious to find out what it’s like to make love with a misfit, with a witcher. Fortunately, Essi turned out to be smarter than you and generously took pity on your stupidity, having understood it’s cause. I concluded this from the fact you did not return from the jetty with a fat lip.”

“Have you finished?”

“Yes, I have.”

“Goodnight then.”

“I know why you’re furious and gnashing your teeth.”

“No doubt. You know everything.”

“I know who warped you like that, who left you unable to understand a normal woman. Oh, but that Yennefer of yours was a troublemaker; I’m damned if I know what you see in her.”

“Drop it, Dandelion.”

“Do you really not prefer normal girls like Essi? What do sorceresses have that Essi doesn’t? Age, Perhaps? Little Eye may not be the youngest, but she’s as old as she looks. And do you know what Yennefer once confessed to me after a few stiff drinks? Ha, ha... she told me that the first time she did it with a man it was exactly a year after the invention of the two-furrow plough.”

“you’re lying. Yennefer Loathes you like the plague and would never confide in you.”

“Alright. I was lying. I confess.”

“You don’t have to. I know you.”

“You only think you know me. Don’t forget: I’m complicated by nature.”

“Dandelion,” The Witcher sighed, now genuinely tired. “You’re a cynic, a lecher, a womaniser and a liar. And there is nothing, believe me, nothing complicated about that. Goodnight.”

“Goodnight Geralt.”

It’s worth noting that everything Dandelion says in this section appears to be accurate to what we witness happen between Essi and Geralt although his motivations for acting that way (like a jerk) aren’t stated. I mean. A huge part of Dandelion’s character is explaining Geralt’s motivations to the audience. I mean it happens again when the doppler turns into Dandelion during The Eternal Flame. The doppler as Dandelion Explains why Geralt won’t hurt him. After having been Geralt.

“You’re right, Geralt.” [the doppler said transforming out of Geralt’s form] “I took over your thoughts. Only briefly, but it was sufficient. Do you know what I’m going to do now?”

[Transforms into Dandelion]

... “I’ll go on my way... I’m going. And you, Geralt will not even try too stop me. Because I, Geralt, knew your thoughts for a moment. Including the ones you don’t want to admit to, the ones you even hide from yourself. Because to stop me you’d have to kill me. And the thought of killing me in cold blood fills you with disgust. Doesn’t it?”

Like A. this scene is very gay but more importantly B. the Doppler understands Geralt's thoughts (because he was him) and then turns into Dandelion to explain them. Because its safer. Geralt’s self loathing is so bad he did get a little murdery about seeing his own face looking back at him. Because Geralt wouldn’t hurt Dandelion. But also because Dandelion understands what’s going on in Geralt’s head and has explained Geralt’s motivations to him before. (Although this story happens before A Little Sacrifice. I think. TIMELINES) And Because Dandelion is his main teether to what’s right and Good. To his own moral compass. (Despite being a thief and a spy and a liar and a cynic and a cheater.)

I mean Geralt asks him what to do during the Dragon hunt because everyone is telling him Kill the Dragon. Kill the Dragon. Yennefer literally gets all teary eyed asking him to do it for Her even. And for a moment Geralt wavers and isn’t sure. So he asks Dandelion.

“And what’s your opinion about all this, Dandelion? What do you think?”

“What does it matter what I think? I’m a poet, Geralt. Does my opinion matter at all?”

“Yes it does”

“Well I’ll tell you then. When I see a reptile, Geralt, a viper, let’s say or some other serpent, it gives me the creeps, the vileness disgusts and terrifies me. But that dragon...”

“Yeah?”

“It... It’s pretty, Geralt.”

“Thank you Dandelion.”

“What for?”

Also (not to circle back to something that’s literally a page ago but) his comment on Yennefer,

“I know who warped you like that, who left you unable to understand a normal woman. Oh, but that Yennefer of yours was a troublemaker; I’m damned if I know what you see in her.”

and how she made him feel not human also seemed very accurate from their section together in A Shard Of Ice. (which Dandelion was not present for in the books but seems to have gathered well enough) So the fact that Dandelion knows Geralt Really fucking well is. Well its Canon.

Top 10 Underrated films

Like Guilty Pleasures this was hard to catergorize,so I went with movies I love or like but arent talked about enough or people dismiss them

Bedazzled (1967)

This is a comedy classic but you mention the title Bedazzled people think of the remake(Which I havent seen so have no oppinion on it ) .This is one of my all time favorite comedies ,a buddy film about a fry cook named Stanley and his buddy George who will make all his dreams come true.....And George can do this cause he happens to be the Devil .Stanley has sold his soul for seven wishes that he can use to woo his crush MArgret ....But one must be careful what they wish for.The wish segments are all hilarious but the highlight of the film is Stanley and Georges weird friendship .And yes George is my favorite film interpertation of the Devil

So I think this movie gets overshadowed by Murder on the Orient Express and the David Suchet TV series Poirot ,which is a shame cause this is a great murder mystery.Yes Peter Ustinov isnt the best Poirot but he is still fun and engaging ,and while what made Orient Express work was the style and directing ,the cast is what makes this film works.Oh Orient Express had a great cast too,but this is more of a character focused story and each actor here plays their role to perfection,with the highlights being Angela Lansbury as a drunken writer and Mia Farrow who delivers one of my favorite performances ever,she is that good in this

Willard(2003)

The story of a lonely man and his army of rats Crispin Glover delivers one of his greatest performances ,this role was perfect for him .Its definately a weird film ,not for everybody,but if you love a good animal horror movie/character study this is one to check out

The Abominable Dr Phibes

This is another unsusual film,because it has Vincent Price,an actor with a very distinct voice .....Giving a mostly silent performance and when he does speak in ti is in a somewhat mechanical monotone way .Thats a hard thing to sell but honestly Phibes is one of Vincent Prices greatest roles ,and shows how good he can be even without his greatest strengths .The plot revolves around Phibes disfigured from a car accident seeking revenge on the surgeons who failed to save his beloved wife using the 10 plagues of Egypt.Add in a mechanical band ,bizarre death traps ,and Joseph Cotten from Citizen Kane and you get an odd film ....And yet it is witty,poetic ,and a bit comic booky,Phibes has a supervillain vibe to him .I adore this film and if you are in the mood for a rther offbeat horror film this is one I reccomend.Plus it has in my oppinion the best death of any horror film

Streets of Fire

A rock and roll western set in an amalgamation of the 50′s and 80′s .....This filmis wild .Striking visuals ,great music ,Rick Moranis ,a sinister villain played by Willem DaFoe ,an awesome sidekick and a SLEDGEHAMMER DUEL .The thing that holds it back is the hero,who is going for kind of a Robert Mitchum thing but comes across as a bit of a dick ,Everything else works though

Ravenous

So this movie is a homoerotic horror comedy western about super powered cannibals .....Needless to say this films appeal is very niche ,but those who love this fim REALLLY love it,and I’m among them .It has a fanbase but I call it underrated because it’s not an easy film to reccomend and it isnt widley known .This is a film that should not work but it really does ,and Robert Carlyle delivers one of the great villain performances

Dragonheart

Yes Dennis Quaid is miscast but the rest of the film is great.Its a buddy movie about a knight and a dragon ,thats just fun .David Thewlis makes for a good villain and Sean Connery is perfectly cas as Draco the dragon.Also the ending ALWAYS makes me cry

Arashi No Yoru Ni

An adorable film about the relationship between a wolf and a goat and the hardships they face.The ending goes on a little too long but dammit THIS MOVIE IS ADORABLE ! ITS SO DARN CUTE AND IT MAKES ME CRY IT IS SO DARN SWEET

Batman vs Dracula

When it comes to animated Batman movies this one gets lost in the shuffle which is a shames cause it is good.What can I say I love horror and I love Batman .Also Vampire Joker is the stuff of nightmares

So....This is my favorite live action Batman movie......I am not kidding .It just flows the best of any Batman movie for me,Adam West is just how I picture the silver age Batman,and I love seeing all the villains hanging out

Hey! I see you have good story telling recs for like video games and stuff and I just got a ps4, is there anything you recommend? I have wolf among us and Detroit become human on my list THATS all I have so far

omg girl u have come to the RIGHT place ! story-based games are my shit ok... im gonna start by doing a lil self-plug which is that i’m streaming one i really love called firewatch tonight (at 7pm PST hehe) on my twitch so we can start with that one. its such a pretty game and has a really touching story. but that aside, non-exhaustive list below:

the last of us — i havent played the second one yet, but both 1&2 are playstation exclusive i believe and the first one is probably one of the greatest games ever made. better than most movies i’ve watched story-wise; i fell in love with the characters and i doubt anyone could play this without shedding a few tears.

the walking dead by telltale — same studio that made the wolf among us (which i fucking love also), and all four seasons of this game are a masterpiece. clementine is probably my all time favorite video game character, and there were some side characters who i really sobbed over during the course of the game. plus all the characters you play as are characters of color so there’s a specific attention to diverse viewpoints there!

life is strange — i would hope you’d have played this already if you like story games, but if not, go play the original game ASAP (LiS2 is alright, but the first one is what really shines) and you can also play the prequel before the storm. beautiful atmosphere, attention to detail, gameplay mechanics, etc. good good shit

dragon age — HELLO my fave shit omg, again not to self-plug but i’m gonna be doing a stream series of this and starting with an intro to the lore for beginners because there is serious worldbuilding for these games and the storylines are immaculate. there’s three so far and including the various DLC you will be entertained for weeks if not months.

mass effect — made by the same studio as dragon age, essentially it’s dragon age in space. same great characters, worldbuilding, plotlines, etc. just... ignore andromeda and only play the main three ME games.

uncharted — i will fucking die for naughty dog games omg so they also made the last of us plus all 4 uncharted games and these ones are SO much fun. much less emotional turmoil, think indiana jones in the present day with an extra serving of wisecracking banter and there you go. really excellent fully fleshed out female characters as well. nathan drake is a treasure.

until dawn — more of a horror game but has weirdly excellent actors (hello rami malek???) and a super cool/creepy story with not so much focus on combat (more QTE based) which helps when you’re just there to be entertained. i love this game, i’m not a huge horror person myself but it’s just so good and your choices really impact the outcome.

oxenfree — deeply underrated game with some of my favorite voice acting ever, such a gorgeous art style, and an incredible and resonant story. so much lore to unpack here too, this game was really made with so much love (like there is deadass a morse code message hidden in the beat of the main song that leads to an irl mystery... google that shit its so cool) and it has major replay value. lots of choices to make and they all impact the ending in a ton of ways.

pillars of eternity — i actually liked the second one more than the first one and i enjoyed them both a lot so that’s saying something! you can play on easy mode and ignore the fighting and there’s tons of quests and choices to make and an interesting story/mystery to uncover. plus in the second one you get a pirate ship.

divinity original sin 2 — played this recently and it’s definitely more of a combat game, but as with POE you can just play on the easiest setting lol and then explore the game for its world and storyline. similar to POE in that it’s quest-based as well, the characters are super well done, and it’s all voice-acted which is nice.

star wars knights of the old republic (aka KOTOR) — listen this game is old as hell and looks like ass but its so good. idk what else to say i mean its literally like 20 years old and people are still playing it. there’s a ton of mods you can download to make it look better, but the storyline and the plot twist hold up as one of the all time greats. i’ve replayed it and the sequel multiple times. even if you don’t like star wars, worth it.

stardew valley — HELLO THIS GAME IS SO CUTE its essentially just harvest moon and yes it’s pixel graphics but it’s so charming and the characters are very enchanting. there’s not a ton of story but it’s still worth a play as it’s just very soothing and earnest. i’ve logged like 200+ hours in this game lmao

hopefully you haven’t heard of all of these already!! i love all of these games and i love sharing story-based recs because there aren’t a lot of them out there. if anyone knows of any other good ones please drop ur thoughts in the replies!
