Stan had really wanted to kiss Kyle that evening in the woods, but something stopped him. Fear, maybe. He was generally an entire loser when it came to romance, and definitely didn’t want to scare Kyle off.

Even on the off chance that the redhead felt the same way, he clearly had something going on in his life, and Stan didn’t want to take advantage of a vulnerable person. So, he’d reluctantly pulled himself out from under him, pulled Kyle up too, and suggested that they made their way back to town.

It was probably wishful thinking that had him daydreaming about holding him under one of those picturesque Montana sunsets, finally telling him that he knew he’d been his rescuer, that he was holding the world in his arms, and that Kyle would reciprocate. But as far as luck went, Stan had never been very blessed in the relationship department. Shit just happened, and he kind of tended to get fucked. It didn’t help that he ALWAYS fell super hard and looked like a dumbass.

Kenny still liked to tease him about their brief fling a few years ago. It had ended mutually, but not before Stan attempted to serenade him and busted both his guitar and his hand with a tumble down the stairs. Kenny was just easy to crush on, okay?

But those feelings he’d held were nothing compared to the candle he lifted for Kyle.

He was so ethereal and gorgeous, soft auburn curls juxtaposing his sharp features. His hand fit in Stan’s perfectly when they’d been at the creek. He was so thoughtful and curious, so passionate and intelligent. Kyle lit up the world like a flame Stan didn’t know he’d been without.

Yet another sleepless night had nearly brought him to gather Kyle up and take him to bed, but Stan Marsh was a fucking gentleman, damnit, even if he was an awkward one. He’d hold out, let the other man make the first move.
