a new (temporary) life
genre: fluff
pairing: sana x fem!reader (ft. empress twice)
setting: ancient korea
content warnings: mentions of captivity
Tumblr media
you were so amazed by the culture and sights of south korea.
after a few weeks of staying here, in hiding from mina, you’ve found yourself feeling more free.
even getting to walk outside without feeling like you have to be cautious of how you look, what you have to say, just nothing mattered.
you felt so carefree.
you were linked arms with empress nayeon and chaeyoung who you roamed the streets of korea with. seeing different designs of hanbok, different foods, including the very unfamiliar hangul that you had to adjust to.
nayeon and dahyun helped you understand each letter, and they will say your korean has improved within just the little amount of time you’ve been in this country, along with momo who is following behind.
“she seems to be adjusting to the life here, sana.” jihyo smiles looking at the older girl.
“she is. i’m happy she is…” she sighs as she stares ahead with a frown watching you.
jihyo looks at sana with furrowed eyebrows, “is something wrong?”
sana takes a deep breath in before speaking, “i wish her life hadn’t come to this, jihyo. in hiding like this? if i could face mina right now…she’d regret it.”
she kicks a few pebbles on the ground in frustration.
“well, at least she’s out of harms way, ya know? she is okay now. and mina cannot reach her-”
“no,” sana cuts her off, “you don’t understand. i’m lucky y/n has even gained her own consciousness back. it was so hard.”
“sana? what do you mean?” jihyo asks as the empress turns to look at her, and they both stop walking.
“that bitch had put y/n into a dungeon cell. that dungeon is deep into the grounds of her palace. she made y/n believe she did that because she cares about her. you don’t do that to someone who you love.” sana angrily says while jihyo only listens.
“i hadn’t seen y/n for seven months. the first time i saw her i-i…” a lump in sana’s throat appears after having her brain create that same you she saw that awful day.
“she would not speak. she would not even look me in the eye. all she did was respond to mina. the look in her eyes; she was scared all the time. she was just…gone. it took me nearly two months for her to get back to normal, and even then she was so paranoid that mina would do something to her, worse than keeping her away from civilization.”
jihyo carefully used her thumbs to wipe away the tears off sana’s face that flowed rapidly.
“hey, it’s okay. y/n is here with you. she is okay. i understand being so afraid, but you have got her with you. she is no longer near mina. she’s safe.” the younger empress reminds her friend as she wipes her tears.
sana nods shakily, feeling her emotions overtaking in such an instant.
she loves you so deeply, so much so she would die for you.
the thought of mina somehow getting back to you is a nightmare she never wants to face or live.
she vowed to herself she would keep you safe.
“sana!” nayeon’s voice pulled sana from her thoughts and she quickly but gently dabbed her tears away, “come!”
jihyo and sana both make their way over to nayeon who was smiling widely and excitedly as she lead them both into a tent, specifically for traditional hanboks.
what sana was met with made her go in awe. totally speechless.
“ooh! you look so beautiful, young one. you are sure to be a lovely bride.” the owner says with a chuckle as she re-adjusted the hanbok you wore.
you turn around meeting sana’s eyes with a small smile.
“so? what do you think?” dahyun asks with a giggle.
sana couldn’t even form words, even if she wanted to. but all she could do was stare at you in this moment.
seeing you in traditional wedding hanbok, along with your beautiful facial features that are present with your smile, including the little giggle you let out as compliments kept getting thrown at you.
yeah, i am certain i will marry this girl, sana thought.
make into a series or nah?

Love & War
"Everything is fair in love and war"
Prologue
Tumblr media
The clash of steel echoed through the battlefield as General Park Seonghwa's sword found its mark, piercing the body of the opposing general. With a final gasp, the foe met his demise, signaling the end of the day's brutal warfare. As the victorious army retreated to their base, reveling in their hard-won triumph, one figure remained stoic amidst the jubilation. While chants of "General! General! General!" filled the air, Seonghwa, untouched by the fervor, retreated to his tent, shedding his armor before succumbing to the embrace of slumber.
As dawn broke, news of the enemy king's surrender reached the victorious Goguryeo forces, cementing their triumph once more. The return to the capital was a procession of adulation, with gifts and accolades showered upon the conquering heroes. Summoned by the king, Seonghwa wasted no time in presenting himself before the monarch, greeted by thunderous applause upon his entrance to the assembly hall. With a respectful bow, he acknowledged the king's commendation.
"I am hardly astonished by our triumph, General Park," declared the king, his voice resonating with pride. "For I have entrusted the finest general in all of Korea to lead our forces. My boy, you have yet again brought honor to our kingdom." Seonghwa, not yet twenty-five, accepted the king's praise with a smug grin, his confidence evident in every gesture.
Presenting a gift to his esteemed general, the king acknowledged its modesty in comparison to Seonghwa's deserving valor. "I, the sovereign of Goguryeo, bestow upon you the most opulent of residences, second only to the royal palace itself. Accompanied by a retinue of one hundred and fifty servants, I grant you The Gladiolus Palace, General Park Seonghwa," announced the king. A subtle smirk gracing his lips, Seonghwa bowed deeply with a glint of satisfaction that sparkled in his eyes.
"You are dismissed. Your belongings await you at your new abode," concluded the king, granting Seonghwa leave with a final nod of approval. Departing with a smug confidence, Seonghwa left the assembly hall, his chest filled with the pride he felt in his achievements on the battlefield.

In the depths of the Baekje empire's palace, amidst the jubilant celebrations of the realm, a starkly different scene unfolded. Locked away in the farthest reaches of the palace, a beautiful princess languished in captivity, deprived even of the most basic necessities. Her uncle and aunt, the reigning king and queen, harbored a dark secret—they had imprisoned the rightful heir to the throne to secure their own son's ascension.
Each day, the princess endured unspeakable torment at the hands of her cruel relatives. Beaten and starved, she bore the brunt of their vindictive punishment simply for the crime of her existence. Confined to shadows and isolation, she hadn't felt the warmth of proper sunlight in over thirteen long years.
To the kingdom at large, the princess was but a forgotten memory, believed to have perished alongside her parents, the former king and queen of the empire. Yet, unbeknownst to them, she continued to endure in silent suffering, a poignant symbol of the darkness that lurked beneath the surface of the kingdom's facade of prosperity and splendor.
Princess Y/N's little brother, burdened by the weight of his sister's unjust captivity, resolved to take action. Despite the risks, he clandestinely reached out to one of his trusted friends, a courtier in the royal palace of the neighboring Goguryeo empire. With a heavy heart and a determination born of desperation, he confided in his friend, sharing the harrowing truth of his sister's plight.
Together, they hatched a daring plan to rescue Princess Y/N from her cruel confinement. Knowing that her captors would never willingly release her, they devised a scheme to secure her freedom under the guise of marriage. The courtier used his influence within the Goguryeo palace to arrange a marriage proposal for Princess Y/N, presenting it as an opportunity for her to escape her oppressive surroundings and start anew in a distant land.
Though fraught with peril and uncertainty, the prospect of marriage offered Princess Y/N a glimmer of hope—a chance to break free from the chains of her captivity and forge her own destiny. And as the wheels of fate began to turn, the stage was set for a daring rescue that would defy the odds.

The Kingdom of Silla ruled parts of Korea for most of the first millennium CE. At its height, around the year 500, it dominated the peninsula. The rulers of Silla during this time commemorated their power by wearing stunning gold-and-jade crowns. You may have noticed that we don’t have many ancient crowns from other parts of the world. Remarkably, the crowns of Silla survived in rulers’ tombs in Geumseong, the “city of gold,” until they were rediscovered in the 1920s.

Love & War
"Everything is fair in love and war"
CH-1
Tumblr media
As Seonghwa emerged from the assembly hall, the administrative minister of the king, Jung Wooyoung, greeted him with a respectful nod. "Congratulations, Hyung," Wooyoung offered warmly.
"Thank you, Wooyoung," Seonghwa replied with a nod of acknowledgment.
"The king has requested me to escort you to your palace," Wooyoung continued, his tone respectful yet tinged with an air of formality. Seonghwa simply nodded in response, his mind already occupied with thoughts of the challenges and responsibilities that lay ahead.
As they exited the palace, two ornate palanquins awaited them, resplendent in hues of gold and red. Seonghwa settled into one, his thoughts momentarily diverted by the memory of the finance minister's envious glare. He knew well the source of the man's resentment—his own meteoric rise to prominence at a young age, culminating in his appointment as the general of Korea's most formidable army.
Lost in contemplation, Seonghwa hardly noticed the journey as the palanquins traversed the bustling streets, eventually arriving at the Gladiolus Palace. Stepping out onto the marble courtyard, Seonghwa was instantly engulfed by an aura of opulence and grandeur that seemed to permeate every corner of the magnificent estate.
Towering pillars, adorned with intricate carvings, reached towards the heavens, casting graceful shadows across the courtyard. The gentle melody of cascading fountains filled the air, their crystalline waters shimmering in the sunlight, adding to the palace's ethereal beauty.
In that moment, Seonghwa couldn't help but feel a surge of pride and determination, knowing that this palace, now his own, would serve as a symbol of his achievements and the king's trust. Yet, beneath the surface of his elation, he remained keenly aware of the challenges and adversaries that awaited him in the corridors of power. Gazing around in awe, Seonghwa found himself captivated by the unparalleled beauty that enveloped him. The grandeur of the palace was nothing short of breathtaking. Whispers lingered in the air, hinting at the palace's storied past—a legacy intertwined with the illustrious history of Goguryeo. Legends spoke of its origins, tracing its lineage back to the queen of the realm's inaugural monarch. However, following her exile, the palace had been sanctified, designated solely for those who had earned the king's utmost trust and reverence.
As he walked through the corridors, the weight of his title and responsibilities settled upon his shoulders. The Gladiolus Palace would now be his home, a symbol of his elevated status and the king's favor. But amidst the splendor, Seonghwa couldn't shake the lingering sense of unease—the knowledge that envy and resentment lurked in the shadows, waiting to test his resolve and ambition.

"You are nothing but worthless, your very existence is futile!" Y/N endured the scathing verbal assault from her aunt, the queen of Baekje, her words laced with disdain.
Before Y/N could even muster a response, she felt the sting of a hunter's strike from the crown prince of the kingdom, Yoon Taehyun. Each blow intensified, accompanied by harsh admonishments, leaving Y/N pleading for mercy, her cries falling on deaf ears.
As Y/N endured the cruel punishment, her younger brother, Jisung, stood resolute outside the store room, determined to rescue his sister from her tormentors. With a heavy heart, he retreated to his quarters, penning a letter to his friend, Kang Yeosang, a military strategist in the Goguryeo empire, outlining their plan for Y/N's escape.
"Dear Hyung,
I trust this letter finds you well. The time has come to set our plan in motion. I implore you to find a suitable suitor for my sister, one who will treat her with the kindness and respect she deserves. I will endeavor to free her from her captivity by the 29th of this month.
Regards,
Prince Jisung of Baekje"
Jisung entrusted the letter to his messenger with a sense of urgency, urging him to expedite its delivery to Yeosang without delay. The messenger embarked on his journey, traversing the vast expanse between the kingdoms until he reached the majestic capital city of Onyeosanseong within three days' time. Upon his arrival, he diligently inquired and navigated through the bustling corridors of the palace until he finally located Yeosang in his office chambers.
With a solemn bow, Yeosang received the letter and swiftly perused its contents, his expression grave as he absorbed the weight of its message. After confirming its authenticity, Yeosang dispatched the messenger back to Jisung with a firm nod of assurance.
With the groundwork laid, Yeosang wasted no time in seeking an audience with the king, determined to set their plan into motion. Bowed respectfully before the monarch, Yeosang broached the sensitive subject at hand, his words measured yet impassioned.
"My lord, there is a matter of utmost importance that requires your attention," Yeosang began, his voice resonating with a sense of urgency.
The king, intrigued, granted his permission with a nod of approval, signaling for Yeosang to continue.
"This may come as a surprise, but I share a longstanding friendship with Prince Jisung of Baekje. We were childhood companions during his time in our kingdom, and he recently confided in me regarding a troubling discovery," Yeosang explained, his tone tinged with solemnity as he relayed the distressing revelation.
He recounted the grim tale of Princess Y/N's harrowing ordeal, detailing her years of unspeakable suffering at the hands of the Baekje monarchy. As he spoke, the gravity of the situation hung heavy in the air, compelling the king to listen intently, his expression a mixture of shock and concern.
Moved by the plight of his niece, the king's resolve solidified, his determination to rescue her from her torment unwavering. Thus, with the foundation laid and the king's support secured, their daring plan to liberate Princess Y/N from her captors began to take shape.
"We have devised a plan, My lord," Yeosang announced with conviction, his voice steady and resolute.
"What is it?" the king inquired, his interest piqued by Yeosang's determined demeanor.
"We believe that securing a marriage for her within our kingdom may offer Princess Y/N a chance at salvation," Yeosang explained, his words measured yet infused with empathy.
"But wouldn't arranging a marriage proposal pose a significant risk, given her precarious situation?" the king interjected, his brow furrowing with concern.
"That is precisely why we propose to clandestinely extricate her from Baekje and solemnize the marriage within the confines of Goguryeo," Yeosang countered, his gaze unwavering as he outlined the intricacies of their plan.
The king considered Yeosang's proposal thoughtfully, recognizing the gravity of the situation. "You have my permission," he declared finally, his voice carrying the weight of authority.
"Do you have a candidate in mind?" the king inquired, his gaze fixed intently on Yeosang.
"General Park Seonghwa, my lord," Yeosang revealed without hesitation, his tone reflecting his unwavering confidence in the choice.
The king's expression softened at the mention of Seonghwa's name, a flicker of paternal affection crossing his features. "I hold General Seonghwa in high regard, but to marry him to a woman who has endured such suffering... I am uncertain if it is the right course of action," he confessed, his voice tinged with uncertainty.
Yeosang met the king's gaze with unwavering resolve. "My lord, General Seonghwa's reputation may precede him as a man of formidable demeanor, known for his stern and unwavering nature on the battlefield. However, beneath this seemingly cold exterior lies a heart capable of profound compassion and understanding," Yeosang asserted, his tone resolute yet earnest. "While he may have earned a reputation for his strict discipline and ruthless tactics in warfare, his loyalty and sense of duty are unparalleled. It is this very sense of duty that makes him an ideal candidate to safeguard Princess Y/N's well-being," he continued, emphasizing the depth of character hidden beneath the general's imposing facade.
"Very well, give me tomorrow's time to have an audience with him," the king remarked, his tone carrying a weight of authority and contemplation.

🍃 The oldest Hetalia characters 🍃
I have a new headcanon about the oldest hws characters 😔 It's about Japan, China, Korea and France (I imagine their strong friendship between them and when they have to debate against younger countries like America, Germany, England...). I've already thought about who the oldest characters could be, and I would like to know who they are for you 😇
Some will surely say: ''yes, Japan, China, Korea and France are among the oldest, but where are Egypt and Greece?''. In Hetalia Ancient there is the mother of Greece and ancestors of Egypt (except Rome, Germania, Gaul and Britannia, I don't know the ancients well). So Greece and Egypt are the oldest countries irl but not in Hetalia.
I hope you understand my point of view 💀 I can't wait to hear your opinions on this, I like to debate

The Advisors Alliance Translation Post 2: “Husband, don’t cross the river. Husband, nonetheless, crossed the river.”
The Advisors Alliance 大军师司马懿之军师联盟 is a 2017 two-part Chinese TV series depicting the life of Sima Yi, a government official and military strategist who lived during the late Eastern Han Dynasty 东汉 (25 CE - 220 CE) and the Three Kingdoms Period 三国時代 (220 CE - 280 CE). [Wikipedia of the show’s first season]
The second part is titled Growling Tiger Hidden Dragon 虎啸龙吟 and keeps following Sima Yi’s life as he matures and becomes wiser [Link to the show’s second season’s MyDramaList page].
The Weibo account [Link] of the show made a series of posts in the style of small encyclopedias explaining different historical and cultural facts that where included in the series. The user @moononmyfloor compiled the 50 posts and asked me to translate them. This will be an ongoing series where I will do just that.
The posts are not in order of the episodes but I will provide the episode and season number to avoid confusion. If there are any mistakes in translation, do let me know in the comments or privately message me and I will do my best to fix them. Although I tried to stay as close as possible to the original text, I had to take some liberties in some posts to get the meaning across better. On the side, I have included extra information from personal research that explains certain things better.
If it is difficult to read the letters, tap or click on the image to expand it. Without more preamble, here you go.

Extra information:
Yuefu (乐府), literally Music Bureau, are a genre of ancient Chinese folk songs that, either imitate the style of, or are from the Imperial Music Bureau. The latter was an institution in charge of collecting and writing lyrics to folk songs. Yuefu are known for having strict syllabic rules that change from dynasty to dynasty.
《公无渡河》 is also known as Kong Hou Yin (箜篌引). Konghou is an ancient Chinese stringed instrument similar to a harp. A Yin (引), in this context, is another type of ancient music poetry that has a freer syllabic structure and is characterized by long syllables that go well with the melody of the konghou. Below is a picture of the instrument:

Allow me to clarify something. The folk song 《公无渡河》 was recorded by Cui Bao in "Notes on Ancient and Modern Times" to be of Gojoseon origin. As such, Koreans consider it to be their oldest surviving folk song.
The Chinese consider it a Chinese Han Dynasty song on account of the tale being set and song created in the Lelang Commandery [108 B.C.E. - 313 C.E.] which is one of the four regions Gojoseon was split into while under Han rule. Koreans consider the residents of Lelang, and the other commandaries, to be Gojosen Koreans who retained a separate culture to the Han Chinese. If you wish to conduct further research into the song, don’t get surprised if you read different names for the characters that appear in the story.
Koreans call the song "Gongmudohaga (공무도하가)” and the ferryman Gwaklijago (곽리자고). The Korean folk tale differs from the Chinese retelling in that the Korean name of Gwaklijago wife, who is credited with creating the actual song, according to certain Chinese and Korean retellings, is Yeo-ok (여옥) rather than Li Yu (丽玉). In Cao Yong and Cui Bao’s retellings, the wife of the drowned drunk man created the song while, in the Korean version, it was the wife of the ferryman who, upon learning about what had transpired from her husband once he came home, created the song on her harp, called in Korean gonghu (공후).
Many Chinese poets have retold the story in their own ways and added, omitted, or reinterpreted content. Some of said poets are Li Bai and Chen Shou of Shu Han. On top is Li Bai's version which lacks strict syllabic structure, a signature of his style and, on the bottom, Chen Shou's more structured one:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This expression 《公无渡河, 公竟渡河》 is often used as an allegory to satirize someone who is heading into clear danger but is too stubborn or obsessed to listen. If this person doesn't listen, then they are sure to run into trouble.
