wes borland x fem! reader

summary: you and wes have had feelings for eachother since the sandbox days, but neither of you have ever admitted it, until alcohol and jealousy gets in the way.

chapter 2

❥༄ me and wes have known eachother ever since i was 10 and he was 12. that's when him and fred started hanging out, and with fred being my brother and us living in the same house and all, meant that me and wes saw each other basically everyday after school. most of the time him and fred would be in the garage playing their instruments or skating. but sometimes they would bug me. although it was really only fred who would do the bugging, wes was always kind to me and never even teased me.

❥༄ i was on the couch watching the simpsons, when fred and wes came in and took up the whole couch, fred stole the remote from my hands. "i'm watching something!" i tried to grab the remote back, but of course he was stronger. "so?" he chuckled. "hey wes what should we watch?" i could see wes out the corner of my eye. he had a hesitant look on his face that was mixed with, sympathy? "i'm fine with the simpsons, i've never seen that episode anyway" i turned my head fully to make eye contact with him, when he noticed he gave me a shy smile, i returned it, feeling butterflies in my tummy. fred looked at both of us with disgust "you guys suck!"

❥༄ that was a long while ago, now im in my junior year of highschool while fred and wes have been graduates for a year. they began taking their music seriously, and formed a band. i had to admit, they sounded pretty good. i knew they would make a name for themselves somehow. it was the end of the school day and i was waiting for fred to pick me up since my car was in the shop and none of my friends could give me a ride. after about 10 mins of waiting, fred pulls up with wes in the passenger seat. i gulped as i began to feel those butterflies i've been feeling for 6 years start their swarming again. i hopped in the back. "hey how was school?" fred asked. i shrugged and took my backpack off "it was whatever." he nodded and began driving away from the school "you hungry?" he asked. you were actually starving considering the lunch today was horrible. "yeah could we get taco bell?" i pleaded. Wes jumped up from his slouching position at this, "oh yeah i've been craving tb all day" he turned to give me a thumbs up and a wink. i gave him a sheepish smile and returned the thumbs up. fred groaned "fine but only cause i just got payed" he turned up his music and began driving to taco bell. yay! suddenly wes spoke up "hey who's gonna be at the party tonight?" party? you weren't invited! but then again, when were you ever invited to one? fred began listing some names when you suddenly interrupted him. "can i go?" fred started bursting out laughing. "yeah like i'm gonna bring my kid sister to a keg party." "i'm only 2 years younger asshole! come on please?" fred kept laughing "no way y/n. forget it" i let out a huff of air and opened my mouth to protest, but then wes spoke up. "come on dude let her go. i mean, what's the deal?" i felt my face get hot and i immediately shushed up. why was wes helping me out? did he want me there? ugh he made it so easy to like him. Fred looked at him, gob smacked "seriously? she's like 5 compared to us and everyone else there, she's never even been to a highschool party yet." you slapped the back of his neck, earning a groan from him. yeah it was the truth, but he just totally humiliated you in front of wes! "dude she's old enough to take care of herself. and wouldn't it be better if she went to her first party with us instead of some guys we don't even know? at least we'd keep an eye out for her." wes explained. Fred stayed quiet for a moment. i was in the backseat freaking out. why was wes helping me out so much? i mean of course i appreciated it but i was basically star struck. my brothers hot friend wanted me at a party? score! finally after about a minute of silence, fred spoke up. "fine" he grunted. "yay!" i gave him a hug from behind the seat. "but i don't want you talking to any guys besides me or wes ok? and stay where i can see you!" i wasn't really paying attention. i was just excited for my first party. "ok ok i promise!" he rolled his eyes as he pulled into the tb drive thru

❥༄ it was about 6 hours later and i was ready to go. i put my best makeup and outfit on along with the perfect hairstyle. i went downstairs once i was done, where i saw fred and wes waiting for me. fred jumped up from the couch, keys in hand. "finally!" i rolled my eyes and began following them out of the door, wes and i were trailing behind fred, when wes suddenly bent down to my level. "you look really nice tonight" when i looked up at him, he had a shy smile on his face, his cheeks a slight red, along with his ears. my face turned the same strawberry color as his as i looked down with the same smile as well. "thanks wes. so do you" he opened the backseat door for me, as usual, then hopped in the front with fred. my head was already spinning and i haven't even had any alcohol yet. ugh!

❥༄ we arrived to the party, and as soon as we entered the home it was being thrown at, you noticed a group of 4 waiting at the front door. 2 girls and 2 boys. one of the girls had skunk hair like christina aguilara with makeup like hers too. beside her was the other girl who had black hair with purple streaks. she had heavy dark makeup along with many facial and ear piercings. the two boys were dressed in the same style as fred and wes, basically matching. i suddenly understood what fred meant. i did feel 5 compared to these people. especially the girls. we began making our way towards them, fred and wes greeting the boys first, then the girls. fred began introducing me to everyone. "this is my sister y/n. y/n this is harmony, zayra, jay, and sean.” everyone said hi and waved, except harmony, she was just...staring at me. like i had something on my face. she was the one with the purple streaks. Zayra began to attack me with her compliments. "omg i love your outfit! where are your jeans from?" "oh they're miss mes. i got them at the mall a while ago." i said shyly. she put her arm around my shoulder, "another girl with taste! i like you already! let's go drink!" i obeyed her as she began dragging me to a counter that was littered with various liquor bottles and beer cans. empty and full. "so you're freds kid sister right?" she asked while handing me a shot of something. i was debating on drinking it or not. then i thought, fuck it. i downed it while making a face then answered. "yeah but i'm only younger by two years!" she let out a loud chuckle at my reaction. "you're so cute! you're my girl for the night, harmonys being weird." she said while rolling her eyes, then taking a shot for herself. i didn't wanna pry and ask why, i knew it'd be rude. so instead, i began copying zayra and downing shots like my life depended on it. zayra patted my back in response. "that's the spirit y/n!"

❥༄ it was a while later and the liquor was defiantly kicking in. me and zayra were dancing like crazy together when i suddenly spotted wes and harmony out the corner of my eye. it looked like they were arguing. wes kept looking away while harmony was forcing her hands on his face. i think wes felt me staring because he suddenly locked eyes with me, then me and harmony locked eyes. she grabbed wes's face and slammed their lips together. i looked away, feeling so crushed. how stupid could i be? why would wes want someone like me when he has someone like harmony in his life. she's so much older and cooler. she didn't have to beg her mom to add more minutes on her phone, or be forced to take algebra again. she was grown like wes. i knew i'd have to get over this school girl crush sooner or later, but i didn't think it'd go like this. i stooped dancing and leaned towards zayra's ear, "im gonna go get some fresh air." she nodded and continued dancing.

❥༄ i made my way through the crowd of bodies towards the backyard. whoever's house this was, is blessed. there was a huge pool, a hot tub, and a wooden porch swing. i decided to sit on the swing and pull out a cig from my back pocket. i groaned in frustration as i realized i didn't have a lighter. just then a shadow casted over me, and a voice spoke up. "need a light?" it was wes with his dark blue lighter. "yeah...thanks." i wasn't really looking at him as i spoke. he held the lighter to my lips, i positioned the lighter in a way where the embers would catch the fire being emerged from the metal object. i locked eyes with his big brown ones while doing so, it was like i was stargazing. i also didn't know if it was him or the liquor that was making me feel like i had to puke. he took the space next to me and began making the swing rock back and forth. i decided i needed to pop the question now or it would eat me alive. "so you and harmony?" he whipped his head towards me and began fidgeting with his ear. he only did that when nervous. "what about me and harmony?" he spoke. thanks to all those random shots me and zayra were pounding, i had an insane amount of liquid courage. "oh come on wes! i saw you two basically sucking each others faces. i mean why would you compliment me tonight if you dint like me?" he was staring at me for a while, then he began to speak up but i cut him off. "do you even know how long i've liked you? how much i like you?" things went quiet and he was just staring at me. after a minute he spoke up with a stern voice "do you mean what you say?" i looked at him with a dumbfounded expression. how clueless could he be? "yes! and i know you just see me as some stupid little girl, but i've liked you for years." i began to walk away. until he grabbed my arm, forcing me to turn around. "wow when did i ever say that?" he had a worried expression. "you don't have to! i can tell that's what you and harmony were thinking!" he shook his head before speaking. "y/n harmony's just some jealous ex who won't leave me alone." i looked up at him with my brows furrowed "really?" "yeah!" he said while nodding profusely. we stayed staring at eachother, awkwardly, until i decided to break the silence. "why did you guys break up?" he chuckled a little before he spoke up, he began playing with his ear again too. "when i realized i started liking someone else way more than i liked her." wow. i swore i heard my heart shatter for the second time that night. "who?" i asked, the question making my throat burn and eyes water. then he did something totally unexpected, he grabbed my face with both of his hands, cupping my cheeks with a soft smile, then he connected our lips. i felt like there were a million fireworks exploding all over my body, my hands were shaky and my heart was daring to jump out of my chest. the alcohol was definitely adding fuel to the fire as well. my head felt like it was spinning at 100 mph. the kiss lasted for a minute until i broke away. "does that answer your question?" he said in a dorky voice with a smirk. i giggled while swatting his chest. "yeah it did weirdo." he laughed again. he had this far away look in his eye, just staring at me before he began dragging me back to the party. "what are you doing?" i slightly yelped. "come on! i wanna dance!" he proclaimed with a huge smile. i happily obliged and began following him back into the house.

❥༄ i felt eyes on me as soon as we started dancing, i turned to see harmony, staring at me with daggers in her eyes. sober me would've ignored her, but drunk me had balls. i grabbed wes and kissed him, while keeping eye contact with harmony, just returning the favor! she stomped out the house through the front door. when i pulled away from wes, he looked at me with a huge smile and twinkling eyes. "what was that for?" he said with a chuckle. "i just...felt like it." i said with a giggle. he returned the laugh and we continued dancing. the night ended with me wearing wes's hoodie, and drifting off in the back of fred's car, forever grateful for this night.

s2e5 rewatch notes

Ah, "Pop" - it's so weird to have one of the least-satisfying episodes of television you've ever watched be sandwiched in the middle of one of the most satisfying television series you've ever seen.

"But the viewer uneasiness, the juxtaposition, that's the point of the episode!" cry future Storer/Calo** in unison, tearing at their shirt collars and throwing themselves prostrate in the middle of their 7th podcast interview moderated entirely by men "in the spirit of John Hughes, we wanted to convey....."

** For the record, I respect/love them for creating my 2nd favorite TV show of all time, they just grind my gears with the offensive stance on these narrative choices that were, in fact, very bad.

It was an over-reach, an unenjoyable viewing experience for most people outside a specific segment of uncritical (mostly white) men and the women who placate them.

Alright, preamble over - let's dig in!

We open with Tina getting a crash-course in Syd's vision. I bet this woman has never been exposed to breaking food down in the abstract - "earth, air, fire, water" , nor the overwhelming prep of the daikon and the fennel - but her just being like "this is a lot for a tasting menu" and then reassuring her with "it's okay ma, I got you!" - she has my full heart.

Tina's intuition on the food is good, though - it is, in fact, too busy. Sydney is still learning how to be a mentor, and she negates that Tina's background isn't automatically going to make her know what a play on an XO sauce is, or even how to identify a panzanella.

Remember Carmy explaining Japanese plum wine to Marcus? That's how you do it. Sydney still has a learning curve to go through, but Tina will weather it gangbusters.

Sydney - "It's a lot, it's a lot...I'm seeing that its a lot"

I see that iterative recipe development between Carmy + Syd fell into oblivion three weeks earlier when he blew her off, and she's suffering greatly.

Carmy is trying to get the 7 seconds down to 5 between stations when Cicero comes in, and Cicero sees it as a fruitless exercise after Natalie points out that he's been at it for over an hour. I can almost see the flash in Carmy's eyes where we're back 5 years ago, his family seeing him and his work as weird and irrelevant. This was probably the first blow of the day that led him to flake out completely.

I'm including all of Cicero's dialogue here, because I didn't realize it was so weighted on my first pass through the show:

"I'm a little concerned that we're taking our eyes off the ball here, and I want to be hyper-clear - if I ain't seeing no progress, I don't want to keep pissing money away. I'm calling this out now, because we are - How far from open, Sug? - Six weeks! And I somehow anticipate that the coming six weeks, there will be more pissin'.

The thing is, I like to control the pissing to the best of my ability....your schedule is kinked. You're doing whatever the fuck you're doing here. Thundernuts is out there making sandwiches for his entire family? I mean, look, as much as I look forward to selling this place - and trust me, I do look forward to it - I think it's just in all of our best interests if we have a maximally efficient place of business. I really would like to tell you a story of complete and utter failure...."

Syd interrupts.

Holy shit - this is the second time he's tried to tell his Gonzalez/Bartman story. I can't believe I missed this, TWICE (s2e1).

Instead, he tells it to Carmy on opening night - and I think by then Cicero has seen the writing on the wall and knows that Carmy is the only person who really needs to hear it - this is a big CP.

The scenes that follow just reinforce Ciceros current narrative - it's too casual for essentially being a House of Usher - everyone is interrupting, Fak's pal/contractor wandering in eating a sandwich the electrician made him, the drywall falling, Timmy's "no worries, it's still billable hours" crack. Mobster uncle or not, the man has already spent $550k just to witness this.

Tina telling Ebra that it's weird she hasn't spoken to him in a few days, and can't recount the last time that happened - it's amazing that with all the talk of platonic relationships this season, no one is pulling this one out of their hats in comparison *smirks*

But again (like Sugar faux-charming Cicero moments earlier). women be managing men's emotions along with their own lengthy lists of challenges, as the men retreat wounded and overwhelmed.

Cut to Syd perfectly laying out dining wares for Carmy while Fak blathers about 'Can't Hardly Wait' being "the greatest High School Song ever written" while his contractor friend sits idle....

"That's $55 a plate for that silence" - "Okay, then we can use the shitty ones" - Carmy is being so frigging childish and dismissive, right after he called Sugar "fucking disgusting" for being cutesy with Cicero to de-escalate him, but both women are doing what needs to be done - not what they WANT to be doing.

This is when Carmy completely checks out to call Claire for the ridiculous errand run to Winnetka. In my memory, I felt like "oh, he wanted to see her and he took the first opening to bail", but watching this episode now, he feels defeated and infantalized, and so he runs to a guaranteed source of flattery/unchallenging comfort. I don't think it was initially his M.O for the workday, just "later".

He exits with "Um....chaos menu. I dunno? I'll get back to you?" after we already watched Syd suffer on it until the wee hours - he's off to provide himself with amusement and enjoyment, so he can take care of Syd others- he just wants to give the menu to her straight-up (as he thinks this will please her), and this is his way of apologizing for bailing.

The same goes for his non-thank-you to Natalie as he's leaving. "You're not doing this because I'm pregnant, are you?" - No, he's doing it to provide himself with amusement or enjoyment so he can be better for you - enjoy working the entire day at the restaurant pregnant, though! If it makes you feel better, he appreciates you.

"Total Control" by Motels is playing as Carmy and Claire drive to the suburbs - I included the link to the lyrics, because it was an....interesting choice.

I really tried to analyze their conversation during their first foray into the car, but my raw scribbled notes look like this:

"It's perfect timing, I had all this extra adrenaline after resetting this guys Tibia" - screaming

"Whoa" (but not really impressed/getting it) "Does that shit really fire you up?" - oh my god

"It really fucking fires me up. Plus, I love driving. I'm a horrible driver, but I love the risk." - oh my fucking god

I can't do it. I'm sorry.

I'll only note that the chemistry during the envelope drop is non-existent. I think it was supposed to be scripted as a funny/awkward scene, but it just came off as two actors standing in a mail room - before this moment, I never perceived JAW as a guy who's just acting in this show, and it's jarring.

Why the hell didn't FX exert more pressure to get the chemistry read they asked for?

Sydney and Natalie's sit-down is just them acknowledging that they're managing the feelings and work of all the men that orbit The Bear, on top of the extensive labor demands they already have. Richie's interjections due to lack of purpose, Fak's inexperience with managing contractors, Carmy being checked-out and incapable of participating in things that don't rely on his existing ADHD skill-set.

One of these women is a bit green and needs support, the other is pregnant and overwhelmed, and all the men are mad or threatened by them for one trite reason or another - if season 3 isn't an overt celebration of female competence and resilince, I'm out.

"The menu is fucked - and I need Carmy, but he is....being Carmy, somewhere."

"At least he's hanging out with Claire, that seems moderately healthy, right?" - Sugar delivers this as not good, not bad, just completely ambivalent - a far cry from the Fishes discourse.

And Sydney's eyes fire up with the intensity of hell behind a smile and the "who's Claire?" - Ayo is such an amazing actress, that was a nice palate cleanser after the letter drop.

OK, we're back in the car - again, I couldn't extract much from the vapor, but here are some rough-hewn observations:

Claire saying "We've hung out so much, but we've never actually talked" - add it to the list of "telling, not showing".

I wonder if Molly Gordon is truly a great actress and intended to look at Carmy like that while he was talking about drawing pants (intense psychoanalysis eyes) or if she was attempting to look dreamily at him and just failed the assignment.

It's becoming a bit more clear to me that there's a weird brother-oedipal thing going on with Claire when Carmy talks about how she had so many friends, as Mikey did.

"Speaking of dead brothers, do you want to go to a party?"

Ignoring the totallykookycoolgirl line, I don't believe Carmy wanted/needed the tension to break there, he actually wanted to talk. The 'hmmmm' he lets escape is discomfort on multiple levels.

The party scene - "Pretty in Pink" by the Psychedelic Furs plays as they enter a house filled with 35-year-old fraternity dudes.

For those who maybe missed this, John Hughes also wrote "The Breakfast Club", wherein Molly Ringwald's character was named Claire. They just beat us over the head with this regression repeatedly, and I resent it. I came here for a high-caliber show, and I feel like I'm watching Zach Braff disassociate in a Scrubs dream sequence or some shit.

At least KJ (a 38 years old man with meth face) says that Carmy was in wrestling with him back in high school - maybe this will tamp down the "why is a chef so ripped" debate.

Even when Claire is comforting her friend (which is played by Mitra Jouhari, Molly/Ayo's friend in real life), the delivery is so wooden and sterile and not how adult women console one another in crisis.

Maybe it was the fact that she was forced to maintain the whispery voice through it for consistency in Carmy's presence, but even that seems out of sorts - imagine Syd, Tina, Sugar, anyone consoling a friend in a similar situation - and she uses that consolation to further her agenda with Carmy by dropping that no one has ever made her dinner before (at age 30???)

"Am I stupid?" "No, no....he's the one who sucks".

Wait, these are the lines of a very adult woman who has friends who are doctors getting over a 5-year-breakup? This script is stupid.

Jeremy Allen White is such a serious actor, I'd kill to hear his earnest drunk take on this.

"He's so nice. Why don't I ever meet anyone who's nice?"

*sighs deeply* - Again, y'all are 30.

Tina taking a shot and then getting up to sing "Before the Next Teardrop Falls" by Freddy Fender. I'd love to know if this song has a massive place of significance in Tina's life, but I choose to see it as her being a ballast of support for whoever needs her. Her heart is completely open - no notes.

Hold the phone - they chose "Here Comes The Night" to play as Claire is staring back at Carmy and comforting her friend leading up to the fireworks scene?

Here are the lyrics - Van Morrison/Them is great, but I wonder why they picked this song? Feel free to slap the Syd goggles off me, but this literally just chased Tina's ballad about being there when someone breaks your heart.

KJ saying "busted for having fun, busted for having fun!" as the cops are hauling him away. Loga....I mean, Carmy, was looking for "fun" in his life - I feel like this scene summarizes that pretty succinctly. He's not a man searching for fun, he's a man searching for meaning....and now he's going to conflate the fact that he's completely touch-starved with this type of fun, because the man is emotionally illiterate.

The one lyric from Strange Currencies (when they're driving to the restaurant) that they chose to flare prominently is "where were you when I kissed you" - at least they're driving home the message that these two aren't on the same wavelength.

Carmy walking into the Richie-fight-shitshow and being more concerned about the optics Claire receives when it's obvious that his whole staff has just been through a hellfire of a day, ugh. At least his acting chops are back on display in this scene.

Ahhhh, Claire's sourpuss face as soon as Sydney blurts out "I'm sorry you're here" - it almost makes this episode worth it. Almost.

For the record, I side with everyone who's stated that her introduction to the crowd was exclusively to draw Syd's attention to her.

The same goes for Richie's "Interesting." - if we based everything on what Fishes was trying to sell us, he would have thrown Carmy an arm-punch or something. It's more bemusement, not pride, in Carmy for "bagging Claire". Compare that with the "ooooooooohhhh" when Syd and Carmy are fighting - there's way more tension/acknowledgement of their dynamic.

Ugh - even Richie is like "Cousin, who's going to watch the copper?" as Carmy kicks everyone out. Even if they're ham-fisted about it (as Richie definitely is), everyone is concerned about something to do with the restaurant/their labor except for Carmy, who curtly dismisses them all with fake gratitude.

I won't talk much about Syd's exit, because it's already been discussed to death - yes, he's confused she's leaving. Yes, the only time he can look her in the eye is while Claire is distracted. Yes, he see's she's pissed and it's making him die a little inside.

I will offer a trite story, though:

When I was a young pup, I had a co-worker who had a massive crush on my friend - and the affection was mutual, but unacknowledged due to lack of experience.

He (being a traumatized, ill-equipped man-child) immediately sought out a less challenging girlfriend who even looked like a close approximation of my friend and excitedly brought this new girlfriend to a party I was throwing because he REALLY hoped that my friend would love her. She obviously didn't love her, he came to me confused/upset, and after I explained things slowly and carefully, he dumped the girlfriend a few days later. He dated my friend weeks after (and for transparencies sake, it ended terribly).

Where I'm going with this is that I think somewhere in the recesses of Carmy's damaged mind, he REALLY needed Syd's approval of him being with Claire since he was caught red-handed. He imagined her staying, asking leading questions or chaperoning the situation, or giving him a knowing smile or a "thata boy" - whatever. Even though he told everyone to leave. It's bizarre.

The Fak thing is so cloying - someone mentioned today about the Berzatto clan of fools wanting to live vicariously through Carmy and Claire, and they are 100% correct.

Finally, 30-year-olds don't kiss like this.

This whole thing was as unsatisfying to write as it was to watch. Hopefully, I caught something of use - thanks for sticking with me through this!

wot deeper dive 2x4: daughter of the night

This specific post I am going to avoid any spoilers from the books! I will be doing another post later today that includes those spoilers and related thoughts.

I feel like I can safely call him 'Ishamael' now. The information is all there in the episodes.

I do like this initial 'calling' scene, though we got a lot of it teased to us before the season aired, so I've talked about it before. But we hear the word 'Lanfear' here, though it's followed by a lot of Old Tongue, so it might not have stood out too much to people who didn't already know that it's someone's name.

Given what we saw of the flashback last season "3000 years ago", I feel safe in saying... yeah, looks like Ishamael is among the ruins of that older civilization. Probably brings back some memories. Also, time-stamp note: it looks like he's wearing the black buttoned outfit that he wore last season, not the blue with the gold tie-clip-like design that he's been wearing this season.

3. The bloody woman! I wonder if she's bloody (and naked) because that's what she looked like when she got sealed up or if it's something that happened due to the process of unsealing. It looks like the seal was already partially damaged, so maybe that's why Lanfear was bloody when she woke up.

4. I loved Anveare's plotline through this episode. I really enjoy what the show is doing in showing us the downside of being a channeler -- outliving your friends and family, watching them grow old and die. Having children is a crapshoot -- if they're a girl, and they can channel, then it's a relatively normal parental relationship. But if they're a boy or if they're a girl who can't channel, then they will inevitably die before you. We're introduced to Anveare again by showing us her signs of aging -- she looks at the lines on her face and puts on an elaborately-styled wig to cover how white her real hair is.

5. Here's a question: given the age of her butler and how she talks later about needing to ask friends for food (and the general vibe of the manor house itself); it sounds like their house truly is fallen, as Moiraine mentioned in s1, and is having serious money issues (though in the way that nobility has money issues rather than the way that the people in the Foregate do -- she's not poor, she lacks funds) and Anveare seeks to fix the problems both of money and of her house's image by marrying her (unnamed for now) son to the Cairhienin queen (also unnamed for now). The interesting thing to me about this is that it means that her conversation with Rand in the last episode probably did have an element of genuine sympathy for the Foregaters in it -- it sounds like she's also felt like she could lose her home and her place in society. And it's implied that she's an artist! I really loved seeing the sketches and paintings in her study.

6. The conversation between Lady Anveare and Moiraine is so painful! Moiraine is NOT here to engage emotionally with her younger sister -- she is here to find Rand and to try to keep Lanfear away from him, and she has no time or patience for anything else (as we saw with her behavior with Lan as well). It's clear how frustrated Anveare is with Moiraine's behavior. I'm assuming that she guessed straight-away that Moiraine's appearance here had to do with the mysterious redheaded boy who visited Logain and made an appearance at a party (because it's also made clear in this episode that Logain being sent to Cairhien was not 'business as usual' with male channelers but an oddity, which means that Anveare has probably been keeping an eye on the sanatorium ever since he arrived) -- if Moiraine actually had been willing to slow down and take tea with her here, I wonder if Lady Anveare would have just told her about Rand. But Moiraine "my loyalty is to the Dragon Reborn and him alone" Sedai does not have the patience for such things. I like that we're really seeing the damage that Moiraine's singlemindedness has been doing to her relationships with the people around her. It's not targeted at Lan! It's everyone who gets in the way of what she thinks she must do! The way Moiraine sweeps back into the house and just immediately starts giving orders!

7. Guilty Rand and Selene ready to take advantage of it (twisting the knife by blaming herself for the fire when of course she knows how it really started). She's so manipulative! I love how effective she is as a villain here. She's good at finding weak spots and exploiting them without giving away that she's aware of what she's poking at. And the facial expressions are just... on point, always. But Rand is worried that he'll hurt anyone if he's around them, and the more he cares, the more he worries.

8. Poor Nynaeve. The Accepted testing really put her through the wringer. I like that we only hear the flashback here and that we don't actually flash back to the test. It just happened last episode! We can remember it fine. They did a good job of showing why Nynaeve is currently feeling more emotionally connected to Liandrin (who also has a child, like Nynaeve has the memory of having a child) than to Egwene, who has not experienced anything like what Nynaeve has gone through. And Nynaeve needing to take that moment to remember and go back to put her ring on. Egwene is trying to hard to connect with Nynaeve but Nynaeve just... she was essentially 'trained' by her time as a Wisdom not to want to burden 'the kids' with her troubles (we see that in the very first episode when she launches her Bel Tine lantern separate from the rest of the village, not letting them see her mourn the people she's lost).

Also: the Accepted rooms are a big upgrade from the novice rooms!

9. We transition from Nynaeve feeling out of place to Lan feeling out of place. He has his hair down, similarly to how he had it in her vision of her AU future, but the quiet happiness that was on his face in that future isn't here now. This is a slower-paced episode for Lan and he doesn't get a big reveal at the end of the episode like we get in most of the other plotlines but if I think of it as an Alanna-focused plotline rather than a Lan-focused plotline, there is a reveal -- the poem and, potentially, the worry that Lan and/or Moiraine might be Darkfriends (we'll maybe find out next week if that's where her thoughts went or if she instead assumes that Moiraine is hunting Darkfriends or something similar).

I mean, thinking about the information that Alanna has:

a. discovers this poem which references the Daughter of the Night -- she doesn't even want to believe that Lan knows who it's referring to! Because of the Implications.

b. talks about how Moiraine changed twenty years ago, very abruptly (this is also likely when Moiraine and Siuan had their very public falling-out) and became colder "like ice".

c. Moiraine was willing to use Alanna to threaten Lan with a forced bonding, which Alanna went along with because Moiraine is her friend, but she may now be thinking about that in a different way -- why would Moiraine want to push Lan away that hard? (this would be leaning into the idea that Moiraine is a Darkfriend and Lan isn't)

It's pretty suspicious, when you think about it! So... if I think of this plotline as less about the show trying to tell us about Lan and more about Alanna: Investigator (mirroring Moiraine: Investigator in Cairhien) in Cairhien, then I feel more patient about the slower pace. And Alanna: Investigator has two co-conspirators that she trusts absolutely, which is a big contrast to Moiraine, as is her relationship with her family! Where Moiraine is cold and pushes away her only relative that we meet, Alanna is warm and teasing and clearly has maintained strong bonds with her large and loving family.

We get three very distinct and different types of ways that Aes Sedai deal with being Aes Sedai and how that affects their family: you can be the cheerful guardian angel of your extended family, like Alanna is (and Maksim and Ihvon are clearly fully part of the family as well, and adored by the children); you can cut them off entirely, like Moiraine has; or you can keep them a secret so that your enemies can't use them against you, like Liandrin has.

10. Alanna always being hungry is such a great character choice. I think I may have read that it was initially the actress's idea? But they are definitely playing into it this season and it works so well, on so many levels. She is a woman of strong appetites, who isn't ashamed to show it. And, like she did with Egwene and sex in 2x1, she's assuming here that Lan also has large appetites (for food, in this case).

11. This scene with Alanna does feel like it gives us a lot of information -- Maksim and Ihvon are on suicide watch for Lan (suicide is a big theme in this episode, actually), but Alanna doesn't think that's the issue here. We learn that Alanna plans to return to the Tower the next day, and we get the info drop about Moiraine's abrupt change twenty years ago. We also have Alanna feeling Lan out about his current plans. Despite what other characters say, Alanna herself doesn't much behave like she's planning to bond Lan imo. She mentions Nynaeve to him here and presents Nynaeve as the potential new option for him. But Lan was just told in 2x2 by Moiraine that he failed her as a Warder and he felt that too -- he wasn't able to protect her just by himself and so he's doubting himself.

In... certain ways, what Moiraine did to Lan over the last few months is not dissimilar to what Liandrin did to Mat, in terms of making them doubt themselves as a person. Their motivations were different but the results appear somewhat similar -- both Lan and Mat are adrift and not certain which direction to turn. "Where would I go?" seems to be the question on both their minds. Lan doesn't feel he would be any use to Nynaeve, just as Mat doesn't feel he would be any use to Egwene.

12. Moiraine looking at all the little pieces of her youth -- the dollhouse, the mirror, the books, the music box, the... cigars? And I love her silhouette her in Cairhienin dress. It's so distinctive. She allows herself some softness here, when she's alone, that she doesn't allow when she's around Anveare. Moiraine: Investigator is now out on the town! This scene is even more interesting knowing that Celestin (head of the sanatorium) sends reports to Lady Anveare. I wonder if Lady Anveare has already guessed that the redheaded boy is a man who can channel, given who he was interested in meeting and that Moiraine went to speak with him too.

13. Loved Moiraine and Logain's scene but, wow, very sharp and intense. She tries to bribe him with the wine and fails, but she does successfully bribe him with the promise of being allowed to kill himself if he does want she asks (which really puts it into perspective how terrible it is to lose the One Power). We get our explanation here of why the gentled false dragon was in Cairhien instead of Tar Valon (bait for Rand) and it's so good! Definitely a joint venture between Siuan and Moiraine -- I imagine that Moiraine penned her a desperate message as soon as she was able to, after realizing at the Eye that she'd screwed up by letting Rand leave. I imagine they also probably made it very public gossip that the false dragon was in Cairhien, explaining how Rand found out about it in the first place.

14. It does sound here like Moiraine's current plan is to stay in Cairhien so that Rand can learn from Logain, but it's very possible that discovering Lanfear in bed with Rand at the end of the episode has changed her plans. We will see!

...also I love Moiraine's pockets.

15. Poor Egwene trying to sort through her feelings, while Elayne does her best to be supportive. Elayne is very sensible-head here, which I appreciate. This isn't a situation that Egwene can 'fix' for Nynaeve, no matter how much she wants to help. It's a lovely and sweet moment between the two of them that shows their growing friendship, and we also get to see them doing chores at the same time, which shows us that Elayne is settling with the White Tower routine. Egwene feeling small and useless in the Tower. Baby. *hugs*

16. And then we get the flipside of things and see Nynaeve's discomfort in the Tower and with being Accepted. She tries to go to the Warder's training ground to find Maksim and Ihvon, but only finds a friendly Warder-in-training who has heard the hot gossip about her skills and is interested in presenting himself as a potential bonding option for her. We do see here that it's the specific friendships that she'd formed already that she was seeking out in the earlier episode when she sparred with Maksim and Ihvon, and not simply sword training itself.

17. Liandrin spots this conversation and then receives a message. This is where we get our discussion between Liandrin and Leane about the invaders on the western coast. The conversation is very vague with Leane, but then when she talks to Nynaeve later, Liandrin suddenly has a bunch of information about a specific group that was captured by the Seanchan. Given that we do find out in this episode that Liandrin is working with Ishamael (from the Mat & Min plotline), it's easy to guess where she got her information about Perrin and Loial's capture.

I love Leane's little shoulder wrap thing. The fashion in this show just vibes with me. I enjoy it. We do learn here that sisters were sent to investigate the attacks in the west.

I am very curious about what explanation they'll give for where Siuan currently is. They've made it a mystery and pointed out twice now that it's a mystery (both here and in 2x1, in the conversation between Egwene and Nynaeve).

18. Aw, wolves! This scene is great. Perrin gets some answers from Elyas, we learn about how the wolfbrother business works, Perrin learns that he isn't a werewolf, and we meet Hopper! What a cutie! I really liked the visualizations and the sendings of the wolves. We also learn that the wolves have been seeing Perrin's dreams.

I love how Elyas clearly is trying to help Perrin but his idea of help is just kinda... off from what Perrin thinks of help as.

I really like how seriously the show has taken Perrin's grief over Laila.

19. Lan has been obsessing over the poem, and Maksim catches him putting it away (explaining how Maksim knew where to look in the later scene). So... if I'm thinking about this storyline in terms of Alanna: Investigator, then Maksim talking to Lan here is just as much about trying to get information out of Lan as it is about trying to 'help' Lan get over his 'broken' bond with Moiraine.

"Have you ever known a marriage that is exactly the same another?" I do like that they are establishing that Warder bonds can come in all different kinds of ways.

20. Now we are back with Moiraine: Investigator, who is trying to figure out where Rand might have gone after the inn that he was staying in burned down. (I assume this conversation was also reported to Lady Anveare, lol)

21. Lanfear admits a small lie to Rand here (to get him adjusted to the idea that she can lie to him and it's okay?), saying that her family never came here, that it was actually her and her ex. Lanfear constantly talking about her ex with Rand: haha, I understand why he's just ugh, "Ugh, idk he sounds boring [aka I don't want to talk about your ex-boyfriend 24/7]" especially since we know from the conversation later that Rand has caught feelings for 'Selene' even though he was trying his hardest not to. He's likely assuming that the ex was older and more sophisticated and it makes him feel young and unsophisticated in comparison when she keeps bringing said ex up.

The music here is so good.

22. Mat and Min! This is a cute interaction, though it's colored by the fact that the viewers know that Min is working with Liandrin. Mat is so so adorable here and I'm glad he was able to shed the coat for this scene. Also, Min paying the bartender to get Mat drunk (so that he'll sleep through her 'meeting' later).

23. This conversation with Nynaeve and Liandrin is so good and so manipulative. Liandrin is able to take the information that Nynaeve discovered (about her son) and use it for her own benefit. I do think there's a certain amount of regret for her that she's pulling the trigger on the plan that she was given to follow by Ishamael (from her apology later) but there's no hesitation. We know from the conversation with Min in a little bit that Ishamael makes promises. "I couldn't risk losing the only thing in this world that's truly mine." A reason to make a deal with Ishamael? And she offers the carrot here for Nynaeve to take -- people you love are in danger. She knows Nynaeve well enough to know that Nynaeve will take the bait, and likely assumes that Egwene will get swept along with Nynaeve (she saw how much Egwene cares about Nynaeve last episode).

It's only Elayne that was a 'complication'.

24. So, again, in the context of Alanna: Investigator... Ihvon trying to work out why Moiraine left Lan behind (and being the distraction), while Maksim and Alanna snoop in his stuff. We do also learn here that Alanna and her Warders all agree on their top priorities: the Light winning out over the Dark (and then dessert).

25. Genuinely enjoyed Anvaere successfully playing Moiraine. This is her city! She's the one who stayed! She knows the place and the people. And it's a good reminder to Moiraine that people who can't channel can be just as capable as those who can. She left Lan behind to protect him, but Lan is willing to risk his life for this, just as Moiraine is. Anvaere has been doing the hard work of re-establishing their house and family after their uncle did something that destroyed their reputations (unspecified). And Anvaere got what she was after from the beginning -- for her big sisters to sit down and have tea with her.

26. Elayne and Egwene's conversation here is very cute. Elayne has lived with duty all her life. She's just perfect in this scene (she's perfect).

Nynaeve not expecting Egwene to come with her has to be SUCH a blow for Egwene to hear. That Nynaeve has misunderstood her so badly, that she's believed that Egwene is after power for power's sake, rather because she wants to use that power to help people (and especially the people she loves).

And Elayne following them. So cute!

Of course, then Liandrin shows up. But it was very cute until then!

27. "No one escapes their fate. You know that better than anyone." This dream that Ishamael pushes on her, so that she'll be more receptive to his offer, really is so heartbreaking. No wonder she wanted to escape and travel and go as far away as she could. The show has done such a good job setting up believable emotional stakes for the characters.

The second that Min realizes who she really made a deal with, she wants to break it. And here is where we officially find out where Ishamael wants Mat to be led: to Cairhien.

Of course, Rand is in Cairhien. And Min had that viewing about Mat stabbing Rand. But she doesn't know that Rand is in Cairhien. Interesting puzzle pieces.

28. Once we know that Lanfear is a Forsaken, I feel like we can guess that she set up this entire scenario (ex. why are they sleeping outside? Selene said she wanted to, probably, to set up the scene properly) -- she brought the Fade here, she wanted Rand to use the One Power so that she could act out the part of Distressed Girlfriend Struggling With Learning Her Boyfriend Can Channel. She does such a good job, too. She really plays on his fears and how desperate he is to still feel like himself. You can really see how his heart his breaking when she pulls away from him.

Natasha and Josha are so good in this scene. There are so many levels. She also manages to continue to give surprisingly solid life advice, which is somehow incredibly hilarious to me. But I feel like Rand is, uh, probably going to believe all that advice is terrible now.

We also see that Rand is learning the sword but still isn't very good at it, as the Fade quickly disarms him and he needs to use the Power in order to protect himself and (probably more importantly to his mind) 'Selene'.

29. There is definitely a part of me that wishes that this had just been a romance scene. Rand getting tied up (and liking it)! 'Selene' literally thumbs open his mouth for their kiss! The way she kisses down his body and the expression on his face! It was a very very sensual scene, very well done. "You are the first woman who's seen me as a man" he tells her and I think he means that pretty precisely -- he loved Egwene but he still felt like a boy with her.

But instead of being a romance scene it's, you know, a deeply traumatic moment for Rand and will hamper his ability to engage in emotional intimacy (which will also potentially lead to other delicious angst in the future, though, I hope). We've definitely been getting a lot of trauma for our youngsters set up in recent episodes and we're only half-way through the season, so plenty of time for more trauma.

So far, we have:

a. Mat has been, essentially, emotionally sabotaged by months of Liandrin picking away at his brain; and we know that he's been set loose to follow a plan laid out by Ishamael which is not likely to lead to rainbows and puppies (I will have some theories in my later post with book spoilers).

b. Nynaeve suffered the trauma of the arches and now has been betrayed when she finally had come around to trusting and respecting Liandrin Sedai.

c. Perrin watching one of the men that he's been traveling with killed in an incredibly brutal way and being helpless to do anything about it. He also was told that what he is brings him closer to the Dark One.

d. Egwene has been the main target of all the 'fake-out deaths' in the show -- Nynaeve in episode 1 (which she believed until episode 6); Rand in the current season; and then Nynaeve again last episode.

e. After struggling with his identity all last season, and making the choice to abandon his friends for their own safety, Rand has built himself a new life but couldn't help himself from caring for the new people in it. Just as he'd given in to his emotions about Selene (who he has potentially been sleeping with for months at this point) and she appears to have accepted him as a male channeler! ...he learns that she's essentially a super-charged version of Dana (to simplify things). He literally gets covered in her blood while he watches helplessly, gets hit with incredibly distressing news that he can't question because he knows the person saying it can't lie, and then has to abandon this woman that he's come to love while she's lying dead on the floor and his sword still has her blood on it. Formative trauma centering around emotional intimacy and sexual engagement, table for one!

30. Alanna, Maksim, and Ihvon also realize here that one of the Forsaken is loose, which is gonna confirm their belief that the Last Battle is at hand. Alanna doesn't want to believe that Lan knows he's been carrying around a prophecy about one of the Forsaken, aww.

31. Lanfear reveal! This ending was so intense. Moiraine attacking Selene but explaining that she couldn't kill her and then that blink at the end. So good!

BAD BUDDY EPISODE 5 – THAT MOMENT BEFORE THE SECOND KISS

I know it's been analyzed and commented upon a thousand times before but I'm backsliding and rewatching, so–

By Ep.5 [4/4] we had already known on an intellectual level that Pran had been pining for Pat for years. We got to see some of his POV, and shared in his heartbreak, with all the flashbacks of him watching Pat and Ink's affectionate moments in high school as well as in the present day (especially of Ink buying Pat the less sweet/still sweet iced milk tea in Hokkaido Coffee, at Ep.4 [2/4] 0.21).

But what BBS did in Ep.5 was to carry us along on Pat's journey of realizing he'd fallen for Pran, so that by the end of Ep.5 [4/4] the full weight of these mutual emotions was ever-present, soaking into every wretched look they gave each other on the rooftop. And in watching Pat stumble into the full onslaught of his feelings, we were pulled along into the awareness of how much it had to be counterbalanced by Pran's emotions too, suppressed within him for so long.

The biggest emotional slap for me on this rewatch isn't the first, tentative kiss that Pat lands, even though it's the culmination of his realization that he's fallen – hard – for Pran.

It isn't the second kiss, even though it reverberated around the world when this episode aired. It isn't even the moment Pran wrenches himself away and abandons Pat alone with his feelings, just as Pran himself was wrenched away, alone with his feelings, all those years ago too.

The moment that really slaps is the little pause before the second kiss, even though by now we know it's coming. Pat isn't sure how Pran is going to react – yes, there's that – but it's Pran who's holding the weight of this moment in his hands.

You can see him trying to balance out all the roiling emotions within himself with the sensible logic he's known for; he'd convinced himself it was all meaningless, that Ink had easily and clearly supplanted him, that there was no hope of a romantic future for him and Pat.

But he'd held this secret, burning love within himself for so long, bore the terrible yearning alone, and by then had had all hopes of a moment like this one, alone with Pat on the rooftop, crushed time and time again. And yet here was Pat, offering himself to him – honest, bare and vulnerable.

All he'd ever wanted for so long. But at the same time all wrong, impossible, will only end in tragedy.

"Things don't end well whenever I'm close to you" ringing in his head (Ep.1 [4/4] 3.28, Ep.2 [3I4] 9.01).

It's the age-old dilemma of head-versus-heart.

And for once, just once, Pran cedes a little. The king of self-denial decides that after years of desolate pining he'll throw it all to the wind and allow himself – not quite a moment of happiness – but the illusion of happiness, for he could never take Ink's place now then, could he? But he could experience what a tender, passionate moment with the love of his life would feel like, if only for a moment where he could just pretend that it was real and that there was hope for a future of them together.

So he goes in a second time, reaching out to pull Pat in, no holds barred, giving it his all. Because for Pran in this moment, this IS all there is. He cannot see it going anywhere beyond this rooftop assignation, but he takes it anyway because it's all he'll ever have of his beloved Pat, in the way that he wants.

And when he pulls away sobbing, he weeps in part because he knows that it's over, that it can never be anything more, and that he can never have anything more.

I weep along, as a lot of us do, because we know the bittersweet tragedy of having loved once, known its intimacy, and then being cast back into the despair of believing we'll never, ever have it in our lives again.

Thank God Pat never gave up on Pran. And to all who might be despairing, give yourself a second chance. Sometimes it's not all you've convinced yourself it will be.

Pran's moment of shattering grief here also tells us it's OK to give in and think of yourself from time to time, even if you're used to putting yourself last, denying your own happiness. You deserve it, even if you don't think so. And even if the happiness is only illusory or fleeting, who's to say there's not more of the real thing waiting for you the next time around, if you just give it a try? 💖

I've heard! I'm not sure what the status is on it right now, but I saw some concept art almost a year ago, I think. For all I know, it might have started airing, but I haven't been keeping up with it (Not even sure where).

I'm not enthusiastic about the idea, but I don't love being negative on my fandom blog, so I haven't said anything, and if I do say positive things after watching it, there are some uneasy roots beneath. Based on what I've seen, I'm not impressed, but I've heard rumors that they're bringing the Pixies back (about 16 years since their last episode iirc), and if that's true then I've pumped. I miss them so much.

I think I heard there was time travel involved in the new series, something about the future, and if they've killed off H.P. and Sanderson's taken over as Head Pixie, I'm gonna go feral.

All I want is pathetic lapdog Sanderson, H.P defending his title as the sassiest character in all Fairly OddParents, and a reference to a 37-year plan, and I'll be content.

If you are not going to put Sanderson in charge of all the universe's magical paperwork just to have him peace out and run off to another singing competition, then what is even the point. smh. "Fairy Idol," my beloved.

I have serious doubts that a new crew of writers will take the time to study or even want to keep all of H.P.'s subtleties, so his sass is probably on the chopping block in favor of easy dull and gray stereotypes... but I will always love that stupid man who offered Fairy World in a mini golf gamble, nearly bailed 5 seconds later because he changed his mind and wanted to go to a rave, and proceeded to lose to a 10-year-old despite the fact he was cheating the entire time.

Even before Jorgen showed up, H.P. was losing that entire match, and this was after bragging about how skilled he is because "he's magic." He's the best. He's so cocky and so, so silly. I love him.

He spent 37 years taking over the world and immediately after he did, he got drunk, went home, and sat in his hot tub. His job is to fill all the magical paperwork, but he flits around calling people "Meat" and "Dude" and he likes to break dance while wearing a full business suit.

He used a newborn as a yo-yo once. He likes robots, pizza, setting his godson up on dates, and giving stupid nicknames to important heads of state. He makes Sanderson carry him, but he'll be the one to carry Anti-Cosmo. His idea of an evil plan is prank-calling you and saying "Hi" while he stands two feet away. He's scared of Mama Cosma. His henchmen are daycare workers who sing songs and wear pink. His hat is also a pen. He's the world's most perfect man <3

In the spirit of obscure animated TV shows, though - and It's been so damn long I forgot the names of some characters, had to look up the guy's name, lol - Zero and Vin from The Invisible Network of Kids. It left a profound impact on my psyche because they did something really fucked up in the last episode, plus left us on a cliffhanger, and then the show got cancelled </3 rip. Haven't watched it in a decade or so. No idea if it holds up, but I was super invested in these kids doing spy work and experiencing insane levels of trauma that would be ignored come each new episode </3. I was literally 8 years old <3. It has a TV tropes page and the entire show is availible on the Internet Archive, of all places, sooooooo I may browse. For nostalgia's sake. There are literally zero gifs available for this one, because. I mean. No shit.

This ^ is NOT romantic! she slams her mouth onto his in the middle of a panic attack. Babe. No. No. Regardless; I don't like it </3. They really. Oh god they really fucked up this one. Like a lot. Plus, they both just ended up with much better canon ships (stalia, marrish) that then got shafted for this mess to be the endgame and then the movie breaks them up anyway!!! OFFSCREEN!!!! they didn't even last 2 weeks!!!! fuck!!!!!!!! I don't like them. But I used to. Playlist, for proof. I feel like this counts, because I shipped them when I first watched the show as it aired (I was 10 when the show started), but I did still ship the pairing until well into my teens (16 or so) before I wised up (the show made them very bad in a really boring way. Not that they weren't bad before. Love how they both do things that are otherwise reprehensible but the show frames them as romantic for some fucking reason </3 I was like 13 when I saw this kiss on screen. They're lucky I did research and didn't just take it at face value or I could've gotten some really bad ideas about what's healthy in a situation like this!).

Season 3 does not exist <3 [also, the way they wrote the 'cheating' plotline was fucked up. That woman planted one on him!!! he did not consent!!! Why are we supposed to be blaming him for being sexually harassed in the workplace!!! No!!!]. Still ship them fr fr.

9. Harry and Ginny, Harry Potter.

Ignoring the horrendous movie adaptation, when I read the hp books I basically just defaulted to shipping whatever was canon. Luckily for me, the canon hp ships are actually pretty good ones! If you ignore the canaries in the room. (I. Do not. Famously. Well. Infamously.) As for Hinny, whilst its a garbage ship name, the pairing itself is pretty great <3

10. kaljdflkasdt thank god I don't remember jack shit about watching glee for the first time! the sieve brain is a blessing in this one occasion. I've already mentioned in another (tagged <3) post my vaguely-relevant hsm ships, though, so..... hmm. What should I pick.... let's think.... I'm kidding. I don't need to think.

Shoker is a major missed opportunity in ME, and I've been mad about the choices for my fem!shep for YEARS because. Look. Kaiden she did not cheat on you. You left!! You accused her of being evil and fucked off after she was resurrected!! what else was she supposed to think other than 'guess he doesn't want to date me anymore. Rude.' And. You could have sex with Jack but not romance her, that was locked to male characters >:| biphobia [Jack can have sexual relations with women, but her only real connections are to men. Rude!]. And, Liara in my games always turned herself down for romance because she assumed my shep wanted to date Kaiden because she's not a total dick to him and there's no way for me to clarify otherwise, also people making assumptions :/ not great. Plus Li becomes the shadow broker and it's a whole thing, so that doesn't really work out narratively for me anyway. Can't romance Miranda. Can't romance Tali (wouldn't anyway - Tali/Garrus <3). Refuse to romance Garrus that is just so platonic a dynamic it's not even funny. Jacob cheats and dips, so fuck him. Like... all of the fem!shep romances are terrible (or Trainor, I guess, but she's... kind of. Nobody. She's Just There. Sorry. It's not narratively interesting enough for me.) and Joker was right there and augh. Augh! Still ship. Still mad about it. Hatboy Project is doing the lord's work! I salute thee soldier in thine endeavours. Waiting to replay LE until it's been finished <3.

Silver Talks AniManga (07/01/24)

I watched 7 eps of stuff today. SEVEN EPISODES. that's more in one day than I was watching the entire week last season, that's crazy to me. it feels like the good ol golden days of watching seasonal stuff.

anyway it feels good, like I'm back in better, simpler times. it was fun. tho I will certainly be trying to watch these the day they air instead of all in the same day like this cause that's not a sustainable way to do it, especially when jump returns on sundays later this month

oh and there's also a couple more shows coming next week that didn't premiere this one so even more for the pile, it's wild to see myself watching so much stuff again but it really is just THAT stacked of a season. lots of adaptations of stuff I've known/been wanting to check for YEARS and sequels as well. along with a couple promising looking originals like bones' Metallic Rouge

oh also also, this week was very weird to see outside of that too cause jump chaps were on friday instead of the usual sunday which threw my whole routine out of whack but ANYWAY

Gushing over Magical Girls Ep1

I've known about this manga since it came out, *checks notes*, 5 years ago??? (on my bday no less so that's a funny coincidence), but I just never got around to reading it. if you didn't know I'm a big fan of mahou shoujo (precure being my favourite by a long shot). I'm not too sure about this series but I'll give it the good ol 3 episode try, and see if it respects the genre enough for me to keep watching or nah. the first ep was promising tho so here's hoping. if I like it enough I'll prob end up reading it too

Chained Soldier Ep1

I've known about this manga since it came out, *checks notes*, 5 years ago. wait why does that sound familiar? anyway I've known about it and I've wanted to read it for a long time but have never gotten around to it. anyway, idk if it was my fault for expecting too much but the episode was pretty disappointing. the animation was bare minimum and even the art felt weird, like there was some weird filter over it, especially during the CG bits. seeing the girls animated and voiced by such a good cast is good tho. only 12 episodes so I'll most likely keep up with it til the end and end up reading the manga at some point this year

Dungeon Meshi Ep1

dunme is one of those manga I never got around to reading despite knowing I'd love it if I did, and then it ended up ending some months ago. I still want to go back and read it tho cause I know it's right up my alley. for now however we have the anime. when it was originally previewed at ax? or wherever it was there was a guy that made an article complaining about how it didn't feel like a trigger show and they were disappointing, but... that's a good thing? at the end of the day it ISN'T a trigger show so it shouldn't feel like one. it's an adaptation and a damn good one at that too. plus it's not like it's completely devoid of trigger's dna. that bit with marcille where it did a rough crop of her face and completely stopped all sounds was hilarious. I'll be looking forward to this every week and to eventually getting around to reading it as well. and also to whatever kui works on next

Sasaki and Peeps Ep1

how I ended up watching this show is p funny it wasn't on my radar at all, tho I knew it existed and all that but just wasn't that interested in watching cause "oh it's just another isekai" then some weeks ago CR posted a video of yuuki aoi promoting it and talking about the premise and I was like "🤔hm maybe it's not what I expect...but no I shouldn't watch it I'm already watching a ton this season and I'm not gonna watch a show just for my queen.." then the other day I heard about that sasaki bit in the credits, and that almost convinced me to watch it after all cause it was so funny but I stayed strong. the straw that broke the camel's back was a clip of the scene leading up to the screenshot below and the voice yuuki is using for the bird, coupled with sugita's great peformance if I had seen the ep was double lenght that prob woulda put me off from watching it but I only realized it like halfway through it so gg I'm... pleasantly surprised really. it wasn't just another isekai, that's just a part of the plot, and him traveling between both worlds and doing trading and stuff reminded me of maoyuu. I'll certainly be keeping up with it

not much to say about this really, just more of the same. from the preview for it, it seems this season will have a lot more sakuga than s1 so I look forward to those little crumbs

Blue Exorcist: Izumo Arc Ep1

ah yes good ol exorcist, how long as it been? let's see... SEVEN YEARS HUH??? time really is fucked up and unforgiving huh... not much to say about this one either. just the continuation of the story, with the same quality you'd come to expect. funny enough, the last time I read the manga was right at the end of this arc, so the anime should be ending where I last read. I really need to get back to reading it again since it moving towards the ending now that its on it's final battles

Tales of Wedding Rings Ep1

hey I've known about this manga for years but just n- wait a minute haven't I said that already? anyway I do think it's funny that both this and mato seihei (chained soldier) ended up getting adaptations in the same season when they have similar concepts. funny how the universe works out sometimes. I think this was a lot better looking than soldier tho, but we'll see if that stays true for the rest of the season. and also just like the other series I said the same thing from the start of this, I really should read the manga, hopefully this year I'll get around to it oh also, really looking forward to when the cat girl shows up she's so unbearably good, I NEED her

good ep, like usual, tho I thought they'd get to the exam and introduce a billion charas in the 2nd half of the episode. that'll be next time tho, looking forward to it. also the new op is nice tho I don't think it's as good as the first one, would have to see the lyrics for it

hoshina is my favourite from kaiju so him getting his own spinoff is very fun. apparently it's based on a LN which was only 1 vol so it won't too long. I'll appreciate it while it's around tho. worth to note that the art is by the super smartphone author so it'll also be nice to see how much they've improved since that series got axed

This is a bit of a "throwing cold water" post. I've been seeing a lot of Doctor Who fandom infighting over the future of the show the last week or two after the underperformance of its 60th anniversary and Christmas specials in terms of ratings (you're free to believe 7 million is a good number if you like). One argument i've seen is it doesn't matter now it's on Disney+ and being supported by Disney and anyway they're already filming the upcoming season (I guess it's Series 2 now?) that's expected to air in 2025, never mind the one filmed a year ago that is scheduled to air in the spring, so we should stop worrying. The show is safe, right?

This article is from August of last year. Since then we have also heard about Paramount Plus cancelling Star Trek: Prodigy despite its second season having been completed (a Star Trek series). There was also the case of Warners cancelling the streaming release of its completed Batgirl movie. And there are others (two Disney examples of complete series being binned: The Spiderwick Chronicles and the Nautilus series about Captain Nemo). Most concerning are how many of these shows are being thrown away as "cost-savings measures" especially at Disney, which according to news reports been losing money hand over teacup the last couple of years due to back-to-back bombs at the box office and the popularity collapse of the MCU movies.

And it's not even a case of "well, they'll just give a show time to find an audience" which certainly worked well with The CW and was in theory one of the attractions of streaming. The Willow series was not only cancelled but according to rumours rendered "lost media" by Disney (similar to those many Doctor Who episodes of the 1960s) so soon after it was released, I don't know if Warwick Davis' paycheque had time to clear. If someone said shows were being cancelled after a single episode on streaming (google the TV series "Turn On" for an infamous network example), I wouldn't be surprised.

I'm not going into discussion on Doctor Who the show itself; current quality and storyline debates are for another thread. But I am seeing people swearing on a stack of TARDIS instruction manuals that it's safe because of yadda yadda yadda, when it isn't. On the BBC, people should be watching on night-of, not waiting 2 weeks, a month, or 3 months because their viewership numbers do not matter (yes it's an outdated way of doing things - in theory they should be able to tell whenever anyone opens up an MP4 file on their home computer and yes, that's scary, but as long as they continue to report ratings based on whatever system they use to gauge, it's how things work). And if your only option is Disney+ and you haven't gotten around to watching the Christmas special yet, maybe planning to save it till the season proper starts, I think that's a bad idea. Watch it now so Disney has current numbers to go by (remember Willow. I know people who wanted to see it but planned to save it for later, like holidays, but by then it was too late).

I'm not going to be a hypocrite; I only started watching Loki, the MCU series, over the holidays and it's one of the best shows I've seen in the last 5 years. Too bad I didn't stream it back when Disney was considering whether to keep it going or not. By myself, no, I make no difference. But if a lot of other people held off like me (I never expected there to be a Blu-ray release of Season 1), the collective adds up.

An irony is The Avengers (the one with John Steed) was still popular in the UK when its American network dropped it in 1969, resulting in the UK studio cancelling it. It would be ironic if the same fate befell another series created by Sydney Newman, eh?

On this day, 20 years ago, Cartoon Network broadcasted the very 1st episode of Cartoon Network's Fridays.

A block that was very controversial for the fact that it depicted segments with live action hosts in-between each show.

The block was hosted by Tommy Snider and Nzinga Blake, until she decided to leave and was replaced by Tara Sands.

While I never watched Fridays when it aired, it still holds a special place in my heart. Why, you ask?

Well, that's because in September 2014, a company called Great-5 Productions (which is associated with CN (but also not actually real)) brought Fridays back in the form of live-streaming online, as well as filming the show in the cartoon world instead of the real world. This era of Fridays lasted a long time, from September 12, 2014 - February 5, 2021.

And all this month, I'll be posting different moments from throughout the block's existence (both eras). Now, there isn't a set schedule for when these will come up (with a few exceptions), because I'm too busy with college to set up a full schedule for this.

I'll go into the revival era more throughout this month, but here's what you need to know for now.

With Fridays coming back, it was decided that the show would be filmed live, but still scripted. Tommy and Tara were also brought back for the block's return. Not only that, but in the beginning, they also brought on different CN characters to be in the background.

This included me, since I was a part of "PBS Kids GO!" (the series, not the PBS block), which aired on Fridays. Eventually, I became a co-host myself. However, let's just say that I sometimes acted a bit annoying and unprofessional when I started out (especially since I was only 10 when this era of Fridays began).

Now, you're probably wondering, "Davis, why didn't you guys ask Nzinga to come on to co-host?"

(No seriously, why didn't I ever decide to bring her on?)

(I don't think I ever had an explanation. I mean, sure, she did have a cameo at some point in either 2017 or 2018, but-...)

(Oh wait, sorry, back to the history)

In the beginning, the lineup was filled with either reruns of old CN shows that were strangely listed as new episodes (i.e. Foster's and Billy & Mandy) or shows that were produced by Great-5 Productions (i.e. PBS Kids GO! and Wii Sports Resort when it premiered in November (the show was adapted from the Nintendo Game of the same name)).

Another thing that occurred (at least in the 1st few years) was that the block would sometimes just not be broadcasted. This would happen for a number of reasons (scheduling issues, the cast being busy with other stuff, etc.). Fortunately, this stopped by the summer of 2018.

Okay, so about the picture above. The designs I've used for Tommy and Tara are based on how they looked around the time of the "Yes!" era, including Tara with her slightly-blonde hair, and Tommy with his Black hair and sideburns. These designs would also be used for the livestreams, starting with our January 3, 2020 show.

They're certainly more detailed than my very 1st designs for them (which they had from Sep. 2014 - early 2019). Tommy's hair was just a bunch of lines pointed upwards, and Tara's wasn't much different.

One more thing, if you're wondering why the Fridays logo looks slightly off, that's because it's an AI upscaling of the logo. I couldn't find a high quality picture of the CNF logo anywhere, not even a recreation of it.

+ saw my inbox with 4 questions, someone requested for another ending of one of my stories, and i have unfinished prompts and fics. i haven't done anything, i'm sorry! schoolwork's been making me busy and idk which part to start with.

"meet me at the park once the first snow of the year starts..."

his words whirled around your head over and over, staring out the window and inspecting for any signs of snow from the sky at all. the colorful twinkling lights hanged on the big christmas tree in your living room shone in your peripheral vision. the smell of that nostalgic cookies inside a red round tin container filled the air. you even had tiny crumbs on the sides of your mouth and on your sweater from the cookies you ate earlier, how adorable.

2 days ago, you and seungmin met up at a local cafe for a mini-reunion after not being able to bond because of rough academic schedules.

"i want to tell you something important once that day comes."

you couldn't even focus on drinking the cup of warm chocolate you're holding 'cause everything now makes you think of him. you couldn't help but ask yourself, "what does he want to tell me?" you swirl around the little warm chocolate residue inside the mug.

you always knew he was the only one you'd like in this town — he is a gentleman, he knows his priorities, he knows how to work around the house, he's independent, not to mention very handsome and talented — he is everything you could describe the perfect man everybody longs to be with. and you're hella proud that you're very close to him now.

but the thought of him nonchalantly intertwining his fingers with yours during your casual walks, when he stares at you when you're not looking, when he shows great concern when you encounter simple manageable problems like getting the cookie jar placed on the high cabinet — all these things he do for you that he mindlessly thought you wouldn't notice, turns out you do.

and everytime you think about it, a wave of chills rush throughout your whole body as your heartbeat skips a beat — all the things you thought you couldn't feel and think of. yet, you're here, red blushy cheeks but a serious face — ever trying your best to not let your intense feelings for him dominate the way you think and act. you didn't let yourself be in the feels since, who knows? who knows what he's going to say on the first snow of 24? he could tell you that he has a girlfriend and he might be excited to introduce her to you. it was therefore the right choice for you not to conclude everything on behalf of him.

and there, a snowflake gently swaying down to the ground.

you almost jumped to your seat in excitement when you saw it, heart progressively racing when you've come to the realization that this is the day. your toes starting to feel cold from excitement and nervousness, you try to stand up with your knees shaking with the anticipation the meet-up brought you.

you picked the best winter clothes you found in your closet and changed before bursting out of your bedroom to frantically think of what you need to bring with you. pepper spray? your money? mint candy- yo.. but you thought to yourself that you only bring your mint candy when you're trying to impress someone.. are you trying to impress someone? wow, there we have it. you finally admit to yourself that you're expecting something from seungmin. so what are you expecting? hmm, you actually didn't know. just the thought that meeting someone on the first winter is special. you abruptly stopped in your tracks.

"let's meet there at 5 if snow starts before that time. i'll message you if it's gonna be later than that. don't bring anyone, okay?"

you remembered his words again, 5PM. you checked your phone to know the time, 16:50. should you go? should you wait at your house and go to the meeting place at exactly 5? you didn't know what to do. you wanted everything to lay out so perfectly that one mistake can make you so frustrated and useless. you even forgot messaging apps exist. "ha!" you exclaimed as you excitedly texted him. are you there? i'm about to go out. you hit the send button to see his icon type in less than a minute. i'm here, been here since this afternoon. come. he replied.

you felt your ears turn red as you jump and squeal, quietly, ofcourse. i mean, who would want to see someone jump and squeal like a crazy girl inlove?

you started walking out to the meeting place after you were totally ready for both the meetup and everything that's about to be unraveled — good or bad.

"i'll be sitting on this specific bench infront of the cafe and i'm gonna wait for you. don't forget, alright?"

and there you were, beaming to yourself. you never even thought his words would make you fluster like this. you caught yourself in the act before someone else saw you when they were passing by. michin girl. you held on to your phone by your chest like you're hugging it, somehow waiting for a 'vibrate' 'cause damn you needed someone to calm your nerves down. you atleast need seungmin, to affirm you that nothing's gonna go bad today.

your heart beats ever so fast and deeply, just by seeing him sit on the bench.

"but, is that really him?" you thought to yourself, making sure it really is seungmin before approaching the figure. but before you could even take 3 steps forward, the man on the bench stood up and slowly turned around — startling you. the tall man turning slowly started to reveal himself, and as he turned around to face you, you started to feel your knees weak and suddenly couldn't carry your own bodyweight anymore. "_____, you came." seungmin said, smiling.

you couldn't process in your mind by how he dresses so simple yet brings so much charisma. or is it just in your head? is it just you? wow, you were questioning everything at this point. you were amazed too, by how a man can turn your whole world upside down — atleast it felt like it. the snow falling around him and everywhere just makes everything 10x better.

you didn't even realize you were standing infront of him, doing nothing but either stare at him or zone out. and he was just standing there, looking at you with visible anticipation, which made you feel relief in a way you can't explain. he finally broke the silence and said, "uh, i wanted to meet you here, to.. tell you something." occasionally rubbing his palms together and forcing out a chuckle — he seemed nervous. and you totally were as well. you chuckled nervously, "min, don't be like that. it's scaring me as well." you jokingly said, slightly slapping his arm. this time, he lets out a real chuckle — a lighthearted laugh that seemingly came from happiness, "don't worry about it, though-" he slightly leans down and pats the bench, "-you can sit first before i tell you." eye contact. face down looking up he gazed at you all of a sudden, a second feeling like minutes. you were trembling and it's not because of the weather, too. snap. you came back to your senses, "okay." you responded — a giddy tone very much present in your voice. you walked around the bench to sit beside him.

sigh.

was all you heard minutes before he says anything, he clearly looks like he's thinking of how to say it. say what, by the way? now that you're thinking of it, all the fear came back to your body. "remember when we were little kids?" his voice making you immediately turn your head to him that was staring at the snow infront of you earlier. "mhm? which part?" curiosity distracts your fear of what he's about to say. "when i used to pick flowers for you? those little red flowers our neighbor used to plant and we would eat the sweet thingies inside them together? or maybe sometimes form cute tiaras and bracelets?" seungmin said, all in one go, in one breath. you stayed silent. "i wanna do everything all over again, _____." the last sentence made you visibly confused, brows furrowed from what he meant. no, you weren't actually confused. you were anticipated to the fact that he could mean so many things by what he just said. so, "seungmin, i don't want to presume onto anything so you gotta be specif-"

"i like you."

all he did was stare at whatever's infront of him — the snow, the children skiing, the pine trees, the sun, anything but you who's just 2 inches beside him. while you, your gut dropped. you were speechless, you were astounded, you were blushing, you were panicking, you were celebrating, you were thinking of everything in your mind. he finally looked at you to say, "but hey, it's okay if i don't get any answer. i just wanted to tell y-" you wrapped your arms around his neck and rested them on his shoulders, you laid your cheek on his shoulder, to which everything you just did made him jump a little. "so, uhm, what does this mean, _____?"

"it means i've been waiting for this moment for a little too long now."

you peeked at his face to see him crazy red, his ears as well. seungmin was smiling so much it looked like it hurts. he then let out a relatively high-pitched giggle, "_____, please stop joking around. i'm serious." his statement made you lift your head up his shoulder and pull away, you grabbed the sides of his shoulders tight to make him face you, "well kim seungmin, i am not joking. do you think i'm joking?" your tone in an exaggerated one. he, once again, giggled. it's funny, I haven't done them yet xD most asks where for smaller ships :)

I ship it. Always shipped it. Probably my OTP. They were my first ship when i started watching Stargate 12 years ago, back when i didn't even know what shipping was. I always loved them, I always rooted for them.

(Sidenote, I also loved Martouf and Narim, that used to bug me but today I can just say "multishipping babyyy")

What I didn't write in the other post is a little (affectionate) rant about how we never got to see a kiss between Sam and Jack that

was both of them in the "our" timeline

both of them remembered

didn't happen because one of them was becoming a cave-woman

wasn't a halucination

but actually, despite the pain it gives me, it's also... just. so. good. They leave everything to the imagination, you know what I mean? Like,,, it's there, it's right there and yet... it's not. And it has me screaming and crying over them but at the same time it's just so clever! Especially because we *do* get to see how they react when they kiss (think of "Window of Opportunity" and "Grace") sooooo...

They never say "i love you" in so many words, but to me it's still obvious that they are in love. I'm just saying "Divide and Conquer". Still one of my fave episodes even if it has such a tragic ending. They care so. fucking. much. for each other and they know that it's "too much" for the air force so they bury it so deep that they DON'T EVEN REALIZE WHEN THEY ARE LYING ABOUT IT. How tragic is that ;-;

there are about a million scenes that i could mention that shows how much they love each other but i'm trying to keep it down to 5

the ending of "Death Knell", when he just puts an arm around her and lets her rest for a moment <3

I think after Jack retires (for real this time) he would be an amazing houseman, or he would try at least. Sam is running the SGC by now but each night she comes home and he's always happy to see her because he's just the luckiest man in the world to have landed this woman <3 He's such a wifeman

So, I think it has become clear that I have quite a few thoughts on them. Even though Sam/Jack don't occupy the biggest part of my brain anymore, writing about them now made me realize again how much I care about them still. Again, they were my first ship, and they kinda stuck with me until today.

Yeah, she was kind of annoying and a little cringey, but she was literally a teenage girl who went through so much loss and trauma in such a short timeframe that it's completely understandable why she would be a bit dramatic and react severely to seemingly minor offenses. I get why people don't like her, but when I was a kid, I thought she was interesting and relatable

Also, I *love* talking about Buffy and have very few people with whom I can fluently nerd out, so I'm always down for Buffyverse ramblings

Friend who sent me Buffy ask, yes I remember that ask and I remember dissing Connor over Dawn 😆 Dawn is a delight compared to him, though it’s not Connor’s fault either what happened with him *still grumbles about it*. But yeah exactly, she gets on your nerves sometimes but I mean look at her circumstances, you gotta empathize. The ask is probably searchable on my blog if you type #buffy ask but my internet is being mean right now.

I have watched Angel, *grumbles vaguely about Connor again*, or well most of it, I did the unhinged watching it side by side disc switching episode to episode by air date alongside my Buffy watch, though I drew it out indefinitely so while I finished Buffy in 2018, and started s5 Angel right after..., I uh have yet to finish like the last 5 or so episodes just because I scared myself out of finishing the Buffyverse entirely because what would I do then?? *sobs* 😭 and then I just never had the stars align yet, but it’s gonna get finished, it is! It has its strong suits and its fun and charm and uniqueness from Buffy. Though the fact that that one certain arc of season 4 was quite possibly the worst thing to ever air on television did kind of contribute to the lost steam, I liked the Jasmine storyline minus the whole Cordelia and Connor aspects 😭 s5 meanwhile was certainly looking up but I have bad adhd and I—I left it on, well, A Hole in the World and you know what happens at the end of that one. 😭😭😭 ouch.

Anyway, Angel, my favourite character was Doyle and I will still never forgive them, but seeing as he’s only in the 1st 9 episodes, my favourite for the rest of the series was Lorne, I even had Lorne as my phone wallpaper for a hot minute years upon years ago, I miss him. Calling Angel pastries, making Angel sing Manilow, that fashion sense, and his wisdom, iconic <3 I do like different aspects of each of the characters in Angel though I do grieve how the show handled their storylines or unfortunate endings 😭

site number 1: flixtor.to

the best site by far to watch shows and movies is flixtor.to. It's free, has zero ads, HD quality & subtitles. Only catch is that they have limited capaity on their servers so when it's a lot of traffic, as a non-paying visitor of the site, you won't get access until it's slower traffic again. Additionally movies older than 6 months and episodes of TV series older than 3 months are only available to VIP users (paying customers)

Site number 2: lookmovie2.to

it's the second best site i've found. HD quality (you just gotta use the gear at the bottom right corner to change the image resolution from 480p to HD), has tons of subtitles & is also free. Has a bunch of older shows as well and movies as well. Downside is that before you can watch an episode you get a pop-up, you just gotta click on the red x a bunchhhhh of times. like not kidding click on it 10 times or so. but after that you're good to go! I'm using it right now to watch Grimm

site number 3: ev01.to

HD/good quality, free, subtitles, tons of stuff. does have pop-up ads tho but that's the price you pay for free streaming. also has multiple servers so if one doesn't work you can try out another unlike website 1 & 2

site number 4: sflix.to

HD/good quality, tons of stuff & free. does have pop-up ads but it also has several different streaming servers unlike website 1 & 2 so if one server doesn't work you can use the other ones.

i've got a whole bunch more but i've only ever needed three sites to find the movies and shows i was looking for so you should be good with these.

new episodes will appear on these sites between 1-3 hours after they've aired for the first time. it can sometimes take longer but that's generally about how fast it appears on the site.

now as far as i know, streaming movies and series is still completely legal. hosting a site that streams it isn't and downloading isn't either but streaming a video is as far as i'm aware when i did my homework two-three years ago. i'm from europe (not germany tho cuz they're very strict) and so i did my homework focussed on the laws in europe but as far as i know streaming videos is universally still allowed.

to be extra safe tho i recommend using a vpn. i have lantern & protonvpn both are free which is why i use them and people will say not to use free vpns but i'm a cheapskate so it is what it is. VPNs are also still legal to use although i know that in countries like the philippines there was i think talk of banning them? so if you're in a country with a government that comes down hard on its citizens when it comes to internet access, i'd look it up to be safe.

if you don't wanna use a VPN an even better option is using Tor Browser which is also free. It's a search engine like safari, google chrome etc. but it was developed by the military like decades ago i believe and then was made public and it's now one of the browsers that journalists who want to hide their tracks from the government use. it's completely legal to use and it basically works as a browser that reroutes your IP address through 5 different "VPNs" but again if you're from a country with an authoritarian regime google if you can use it because China and Russia have banned Tor. To be really really really safe you should combine Tor and a VPN but either also works well.

I have a huge crush on Daniel McGuffey, a video game producer/lead singer of a band, who participated in MasterChef Season 5 nine years ago

It's been a crazy month. I've always known the show MasterChef but never had the interest to watch it until I saw some short clips of MC S4 on Chinese Tiktok (Douyin) in June or July this year. Genuinely, it was just really enjoyable seeing the short clips during my uni break, and I felt I could also improve my English by watching MC. So I decided to watch the actual show starting with S5. Lol that's how I started to binge watch the show! 🤣🤣

In the first episode, that's when I noticed this hot looking guy in a striped t-shirt, with lots of tattoos on his arms, and a pair of glasses. Yeah, it's Daniel McGuffey, lol, but I didn't pay much attention to him at the beginning (coz he barely had any screen time, I mean...). I was more into the show because of Leslie and Ahran, hahahah.

Then in ep12 or 13, when Daniel teamed up with Jaimee, he finally got some screen time, and I thought they looked really cute together, and kinda shipped them 🫢😳😳 This is when I started to pay much more attention to Daniel. However, ironically he soon got eliminated because of the stupid egg soufflé (only when I JUST started to like him A LOT).

Ok, so after I finished S5, I started searching for the contestants' social media to see how they are doing today, and of course, I went straight to Daniel, but guess what? His Instagram account is private. So I requested so many times, but he wouldn't accept my request🙁 So I went to Twitter, but it seems like his old account DanielKaiju was deleted. So I then switched to Facebook, and finally this time I found his account! I got to see recent photos & videos of him, yay!

From Facebook, I got to know that Daniel is now part of a band called The Pride, which I actually started listening to, lol. Their music is even available on the Chinese app QQ music!!!

I like Daniel so so much, so I wanted to find a place where I can share my thoughts. So I downloaded Reddit, an app I've never used before. Sadly, not many people talk about Daniel there. So I then searched for Daniel on Tieba (a Chinese platform similar to Reddit). Luckily, I found a number of posts that expressed their feelings for Daniel which also complimented Daniel's looks lol. Of course, these posts were from like 9 years ago, but I randomly felt the need to reply to some of the posts, and wow, a person actually soon replied to my comment! Lol, we started chatting about the show and how we both like Daniel. 🥰🥰

From this person (who has liked Daniel since 2014, unlike me who only started liking him in 2023🥲), I got to know much more about Daniel's personal life. For example, how he was part of the IWSNT music video, worked for WB, had a fiancée during MC era, got married after the show, but it seemed like they got divorced later though…

At this point, I kinda became a stalker, stalking the girl’s Instagram, and also Daniel’s friends’ insta…(I feel so creepy, I'm truly sorry for the stalking in past week, I just wanna know more about you😒😞😞)

Put that aside, it was rly surprising to know that Daniel filmed lots of music videos or just fun videos back then. Wow, what a talented man who can create video games, draw, act, sing, and cook! (And look so good at the same time😍

I seriously have a huge crush on you Daniel🥹🥹. I know you had lots of fangirls back then during your IWSNT era and when MC was aired. And now here's me, a 20 year old, new Chinese fangirl being crazy over you, a 41 year old American man who lives on the other side of the world. (I know this is so random…😶‍🌫️😶‍🌫️

Am I out of my mind? I think about him all day, use his photo as my wallpaper, talk about him with my real-life friends, and even write short unfinished stories of me traveling to America, bumping into him on the street, and falling in love with him... He seriously became my new ideal type. I was never drawn to white guys, but I guess I am now, especially those with tattoos. 🥲🥲 (Ok, I'm gonna say it, I feel really weird and creepy, but I'm gonna say it. I want to sleep with you so bad, Daniel McGuffey fk me hard...🥵)

Ok, anyways, enough of those creepy shits. Yesterday I posted about Daniel on Reddit, asking what people think about him. The comments were both positive and negative... whatever, it's not gonna change my pounding heart for Daniel. Also, I found Daniel's TikTok, it was a public account, so I decided to leave a comment, and yay, he liked my comment and replied! 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻 I'm literally in tears right now.

And today, I searched for Daniel once again on Google and found a post about him on Tumblr, which includes links to his older videos, those filmed like almost 20 years ago... lol, glad I found those videos of you, getting to know you more day by day...? So I once again downloaded an app I've never used before, that's how I got here on Tumblr!!!

He probably will never know, a random Chinese girl who's living in Australia has a huge, huge crush on him because of a show that aired 9 years ago. This is really weird, and I feel like a creep, but yes, I like you very, very much. I really wanna visit Los Angeles now, will I get to see your band perform?
