The Realm Coming Soon

“What are you doing?” I asked.

•

“She problaly has a window or something that’s unlocked,” Willow said. She pushed up on the old white window and then sighed, “Try that one,” Willow said.

•

“I’m not trying anything, you might want a prison wife, but I don't,” I replied.

•

“Essence stop playing cute, what happened to all that talk about nothing stopping you?” Willow asked.

•

“I said no one is gonna stop me, not nothing. I draw the line at breaking and entering. Besides I don’t think-“

•

“Bingo,” Willow said. She pushed up the window and placed her hands on the window frame, “Give me a boost,” She said.

•

“Are you listening to me?” I asked.

•

“No, because you always do this,” Willow said.

•

“Do what?” I asked.

•

“You’re all in on something and then when it gets hard or scary you bail,” Willow said.

•

“That’s not true.” I replied.

•

“It is and I don’t have the time to list the amount of times you’ve done it, now get over here,” Willow demanded.

•

“I’m sorry that I'm not as cool and calm as you. This is scary, all of it. I’m being hunted by some crazy cult and I may or may not have to leave home and never return,” I said.

•

Willow released her hold on the window frame and sighed, “You’re so dramatic. You were told by three princes, that you are the only hope for a magical world. You got your letter from Hogwarts and you’re crying about it?” Willow said and then she shook her head, “If I were you-“

•

“Yeah, but you’re not.” I said. I rolled my eyes and walked over to Willow and then leaned down cupping my hands. “Let’s just drop it and continue breaking into this white lady's house, because nothing could possibly go wrong,” I finally said.

“You’re An Author Right?”

So I’m taking a quick break from my homework to touch base on something, before it fades from my mind and is lost forever. Yesterday, at my Month Drill with the Army, one of my battles (it’s a term used for a friend or co-worker in the military, well in the Army for sure, it’s short for Battle Buddy) asked

“You’re An Author Right?”

And unbeknownst to him, that set off a battle within my very core and caused my inner child to cryout in pain. All I could get out was

“Yeah, I’m trying to be”

That is not the answer I wanted to say, I wanted to say Yes! I mean in my head an Author is someone that’s been published, which might be part of why I gave the answer that I did, because I’m still working on my book at the moment. Yet, the feeling of self doubt and even a bit of shame didn’t match up with my answer. I don’t understand why it’s so hard for me to tell someone

“Yes, I am an Author”

What fear is causing me to doubt myself in social settings? Is it the worry that I’ll never get this book done? Is it my lack of publications, be it free or paid? Am I worried that my book isn’t good? Or is my inner child crying because I’ve waited so long and took so many different roads to avoid my life long dream of creating stories?

I’m not sure what’s going on in my little messed up head but from now on when someone asks me if I’m a writer or an author my answer will be

“Hell Fucking Yeah I am!”

or yes, I think yes might work better, but “Sylvester Barzey Mother Fucking Author” might look good on a business card too.

Okay so the number one thing I hate about writing is editing, I hate re-reading everything and trying to pick up on all the little grammar mistakes ( I know you would think I’d love re-reading my work, but nope) So normally I just put it off till I really have too, but while I was looking for something to help me with my homework, I found a site to help me with my writing and editing woes.

TTS Reader is awesome, I just copy and paste my story into the text box and listen to it while I’m relaxing, eating, or even working out (this is a blue moon event, much like seeing a unicorn). It comes with different voices and you can set the speed. Now this may all sound lazy and I’m okay with that, it saves me time. I’m not wasting hours editing when I could be writing and it makes me think about how my book would sound as an audio-book and that’s just motivation to get it done faster. So check it out.
