Out of Context Line Tag

Wanted to jump on the train because firstly this looks super fun, and secondly because this wonderful couple of lines popped in my head and now I must include them in my revision.

“Damnit!” he cursed. His voice echoed through the quiet sanctuary as he held his hand still in the air. Instead of the cream-filled doughnut Lenna had given him, [Redacted] now held what looked like an English muffin. “The food wishes to spite me? I did not invent doughnuts?!”

Yeah this is more than one line but I had to include the context because it makes me laugh out loud, and I’d like to make you laugh, too.

Tell me about your revision process?

Revision is my favorite part of the process! I love taking the rugged rock of a first draft and polishing it into a diamond.

My revisions for a novel or longer project are typically pretty extensive. This is what it's looked like for every version of Life in Black and White since the first version of the manuscript, including my current revision (yes, I made this diagram on MS Paint):

The first step in the cycle is always making a new outline for every version, which attempts to address areas of improvement and beta reader comments that I want to address in the new version. Revisions have taken anywhere between a few months to a year depending on revision goals and what major changes I'm expecting to have to make.

A Saturday Snippet

It’s a rainy day here, and I spent much of the morning revising my upcoming novel, Plant Lady. After some angsty chapters, it’s so good to get back into the romance again!  “I don’t mean that kind of tension!” she protested, though she wasn’t so sure. Fern couldn’t deny how her pulse had rushed when Paul shielded her from the rain.

Heads Up Seven Up Tag Game

From a fun scene I've been revising in Ink of Destruction:

“Were you a historical reenactor at any point? Or are you an independent historian? That sword looks very similar to ones used in the Civil War or earlier.” At this, Mr. Waiter, to my surprise, let out a small laugh. “Oh, no.” he said, looking back up towards me. “I have never participated in a reenactment, but you are correct that this sword is quite old. It appears to me that it’s a British officer’s hanger, used during the American Revolution. Which should—“ as he spoke, he moved his right hand to firmly grasp the hilt, lifting the sword into the air with a grand swoosh “—be sufficient enough to get you untied.”

Reading this out of context just makes me laugh. Love the dynamic between Alexandra and this guy.
