Two sisters, Salamishah and Scheherazade Tillet, have been fighting for decades to end violence against black women and girls.

In 2003, the sisters founded A Long Walk Home (ALWH), a national organization based in Chicago that trains black girls and women to become artists and activists against violence to women and girls — whether it be police violence, sexual assault or domestic violence.

“A lot of institutions and systems require black women to suffer silently to maintain themselves,” said Salamishah, 44, a co-founder of ALWH. “The requirement that black girls and black women have to suffer silently as a part of being a member of the community, as part of being an American citizen, it’s such an expectation ... and we then take that on, and there’s so many repercussions, like healthwise, to our silence.”

The organization’s first tool is healing, and then organizing. With the pandemic, and then the uprisings, a main focus for the Tillet sisters has been the wellness of the young women in the organization.

Tbh while reading the 2nd part there were 2 things going through my mind: How did she even come up with this and what the fuck am I reading 😂 not gonna lie until we came to the sword part I was so confused and then I was like oooh thaat. It's not you it's just that I'm dumb and I need time to process things. I think I got it all, especially the end but not gonna say anything yet just incase. This was so good and it's just the beginning, who knows what'll happen next and I'm so excited for this

I’m just going to go ahead and address the second issue first because someone had actually said the same thing on a03 which has got me like O.o. After re-reading through the chapter, I can completely see how it’s confusing. 

Also please don’t say that, you or any of my other readers are definitely not dumb and if there’s something confusing or not right going on, I gotta address it. So with this series unfortunately, the first three chapters are basically going tobe set up chapters until the full actual storyline comes into light. It’s almost suppose to introduce you to different aspects of the story before tying it all together like a nice little package. You got the relationship in the first one, you got Y/N’s story in the second one and now the flip side will have to be shown in the third chapter. 

Again definitely not bad that you and the other reader told me this, because I’m the one that’s been staring at the document for hours and honestly has the solid possibility of making a mistake somewhere. 

Alright now for the first thought - I have no freaking idea LOL. I really just wanted to write something supernatural again and saw so many werewolf au’s popping up everywhere so I went like “Hey I’ve never done this before, let’s try a hand at this” but didn’t want it to be cliche and predictable so I threw in a bunch of different ideas and BOOM. You have this crazy concept of mine in the form of a story :D

22. Favorite story you’ve ever written? - It’s a toss-up! I like a lot of them…it’d be easier for me to say which ones I don’t like at all, because there are quite a few tbh haha. I really like A Long Way Home, and I’d Take Care of You. I like Should Haves too; I think those are my top three, in that order. Those are the ones I’m confident enough to stake as favorites. 

24. Favorite scene you’ve ever written? - The final scene between Shaun and Glassman in I’d Take Care of You. The first scene in Should Haves with the confrontation between Shaun, Claire, and the stranger. A lot of scenes in A Long Way Home– the bus scenes, the skateboarding scene, the diner scene on their way to Casper, the scene in their hotel room…I just really like A Long Way Home (though sometimes it somehow slips my mind it’s there lol). 

25. Favorite line you’ve ever written? - I like so many of those, too! Ack. Let’s see. Should Haves: “Sometimes bad things happen…and there’s nothing you can do about them.” Claire winced, but Shaun wasn’t through. "But they’re always short. They don’t last forever. So…when things do change…I’ll be happy, then. I can wait for it.“

A Long Way Home: “Why do you love me?” … Glassman weakened. “How can I not?” he rasped, the words barely getting out.

I’d Take Care of You: "It’s not a bad thing, Shaun,” she reassured. “It’s not a bad thing to cry, or be upset— it’s not a weakness, when you are. It’s the opposite. Because you keep going with it, no matter how much it hurts. You’re strong. Even though one of your legs isn’t working, you still walk. It’s a lot to ask of someone. But I know you can do it.”

He hesitated. “And if I can’t?”

But she was ready for the question, and her smile only grew. “Then we’ll do all the walking for you.”

26. Story you’re most proud of? - It would definitely have to be I’d Take Care of You. It’s not as popular, it’s not as read, it’s not as impressive medically-speaking. But I didn’t need to research a single thing for it because I lived it. Most of what made it on the paper came from the heart, and nowhere else. It helped me deal with a lot of grief, and it was very cathartic. I think it’s the most I’ve poured myself into a fic for this fandom, and it holds so many memories I never want to forget. So I’m the most proud of that one. Proud it’s there, and that I could do it the justice I wanted.
