It's interesting to consider the crew extending grace to Izzy as a precursor to them extending grace to Ed. Stede opens the episode saying, "We don't just banish people, do we? That's not us!" But the crew are, of course, traumatized and angry (and guilt-ridden) and Ed does get banished.

But Stede is right - "that's not us." The whole process by which Izzy is offered grace leads them into extending the same to Ed, who was both more their friend than Izzy ever was and who, from outward appearances, harmed them all more (remembering here that no one knows how Izzy instigated Ed's spiral or the violence perpetrated on the crew).

We've talked a lot about how Stede's ethos affects everyone, and it really should be remembered that Izzy himself is largely unimportant to the rest of the crew. Them being able to understand that he needs help leads them further into understanding that Ed needs help—not that anyone should be banished, but that grace should be extended with the understanding that there has to be change (neither Izzy nor Ed would be accepted on the Revenge if they continued to behave as they had) and that grace itself has to be accepted.

(As a side note - I don't mean to say here that Ed is somehow worse than Izzy or that the crew love Izzy more. It's obvious that the crew care far more deeply about Ed, to the point that they want him to get better and they avoid hurting him until it becomes his life or theirs. He also seems to harm them more, in large part because none of them see what happened behind closed doors. It's their love for him and their embracing of Stede's ethos that lead to them extending grace to him. Basically: if we can extend grace to Izzy, we can certainly extend grace to Ed.)

i think it’s a pretty common headcanon that whenever there is a spider, annabeth freaks the fuck out. which is super weird to most people, because she’s like… the bravest person ever. even if you don’t know she’s a demigod, she’s just a badass. but if there’s a spider, she’s screaming bloody murder and jumping up on tables and counters. and of course, percy always comes and kills it for her. no matter what he’s doing or where he is.

but i think what would be even weirder for people (who don’t know her extremely well) is how seriously percy takes it. i feel like girls being scared of spiders and having their male partners come kill it is such a basic ‘weak white girl’ stereotype. and it usually is funny, even to the one who’s scared. so when annabeth does this and starts screaming for percy, people would start laughing. naturally, right? haha it’s so funny that annabeth chase is so scared of bugs. and after percy runs in and takes care of it, they would expect him to be laughing too and poke fun at her.

except it’s the exact opposite. there’s nothing funny about his expression. his jaw is hard-set and his sea green eyes are full of nothing but concern. he does a thorough examination of the surrounding area, makes absolutely sure there aren’t others and gets rid of any webs, and then goes straight to her. and his first question, every single time, is “you okay?” nothing but concern and support. and if the legendary fearless annabeth chase needs her boyfriend/husband to carry her across the room, because she doesn’t want to step on the rug now, you know dam well he’s gonna carry her across the room without a second thought. and you’d better not laugh at her, or else percy’s gonna give you the most scolding glare you’ve ever received, and it’s gonna make your arm/neck hairs stick straight up and your blood turn to ice.

and it would take people off guard every single time. because he’s not laughing at her. he takes her fear completely seriously. and it’s because he knows about her past. he’s seen her face her worst horrors. he knows what happened with arachne.

he knows exactly why she’s so scared of spiders, and to him, there’s nothing funny about it.

The hilarious thing about House MD being a loose Sherlock Holmes adaptation is that in the books and pretty much every adaptation Watson follows Holmes around whilst he solves cases and helps him solve the cases and in universe writes about them for an audience, so even though there are varying levels of homosexual vibes and they are friends there is at least a plot reason for Watson to be there all the time. In House though the ‘helping him solve the case’ role is given to his team so apart from House bouncing ideas off of him and the times it may or may not be cancer Wilson following house around to the extent that he does is just kind of Because. If you accept that Wilson is supposed to be the Watson figure in the show then it’s pretty funny that they got rid of all the motives Watson has for following Holmes around all the time and are just left with ‘he’s my bro’. Like he’s not there to solve the puzzles or to get Content out of House solving the puzzles but he is still always there; it ruins his marriage how much he is always there.
