im having a stroke trying to understand marvel comics
like after Agent of Asgard there's a bunch of stuff I missed? I just got a few issues of Loki (2023-present) and I'm reading the stuff inbetween too. Like in Thor #24 (2020) there's a part directly after AoA. But then he goes to Defenders? Which is why he's not the same as Loki (2019).
Reddit says that Loki (2019) and Loki from Agent of Asgard-Defenders: Beyond aren't the same??? LIKE WHAT IS GOING ON. The whole universe reset thing from Secret Invasion (2015 i think) is confusing me bruh (which i also haven't read and im not gonna)

Reacting to Contemporary Comics (Without Context) 6/?
Tumblr media
Not only are we playing No Context for this arc, we're playing No Context for this character. I have no idea who Iron Fist is. Actually, hang on.
Okay, so I asked my best friend, who knows more about superheroes than I do (because why Google shit when I can just pretend I live in the 80s and ask my friend), what's one thing I should know about Iron Fist before reading, and she said, "Rich white boy gets dropped in a monastery and inherits their ancient Chinese powers." So excuse me, hey Marvel, what the fuck?
I'll be honest, I'm rooting not only for Loki in this but against Iron Fist for 2 reasons. One, I'm here for my boi and nothing else, and 2, I've got personal beef with Iron Fist. This asshole has the audacity to have the same costume colors on basically the same parts of his body as vintage Loki designs, so I'll see an action figure or something from halfway across the comic book store, and get super excited as I full-tilt run safely speed walk towards it, only to be let down by Iron Fist's smug fucking face staring at me like "Bitch (gender neutral) you fucking thought." So fuck this faker. And maybe for racist reasons, too? Alyssa Wong had to have fixed this, right?
Spoilers for Iron Fist issue 1.
Tumblr media
Okay, I know nothing, so I don't know if it's been fixed or if Wong fixed it, but it appears Iron Fist's backstory/identity is no longer If Culture Appropriation Was a Character.
And he's with Loki immediately, which is excellent
Oh, so we're back to God of Stories now, huh? We're gonna actually give that title a chance this time (for a year. Until we're back to The Liar for 4 issues)? What happened to God of Outcasts? Because The God Who Fell to Earth came out before this
Oh my god flashback!
Dammit, Thor, why do you always gotta fuck shit up? And right in front of Chekov's frozen lake, too. Are you trying to get your brother to push you in?
This is the most Thorki-coded thing I've seen in canon since the elevator scene in Ragnarok
This comes after ego death, meaning after AoA, but also what the fuck happened to "A brother whom I love"??? Okay, new rule: no one is allowed to write Loki except Ewing. He's the only one who understands the character.
Loki stop being emo and start being a hero
Oh fuck now I ship it. HE SAVED LOKI'S LIFE, what did you expect me to do?!
So...Loki's judgment was whether he could rewrite a betrayal and Iron Fist's is if he can cause one?
Tumblr media
What if I just...
Tumblr media
I'm sorry.
Oh, so now you're gonna try to bully him into compassion? When the fuck has that ever worked?
No it's almost done and the next issue I have is #5. I'm so into this.
Oh. It's over. They passed. That was too fast.
Tumblr media
WHAT DO YOU EXPECT ME TO DO WITH THIS??!!
As if I fucking needed another love interest for this flirty motherfucker

HEY LOKI FANS
i thought u would appreciate my semi-coherent ramblings about the leaked loki s2 trailer that i sent my best friend yesterday while sleep deprived and swamped with schoolwork
part 1
here are some of my thoughts on this trailer bc i have composed myself enough to send them
1. LOKI IS SO.
2. seeing casey gave me SO MUCH SEROTONIN
3. i saw the red car and my FIRST thought was lightning mcqueen
4. the pruning of that wall in the tva is giving hela destroying the palace ceiling
5. the scene with loki and mobius sitting at the table i am so ill
6. is sylvie the one pulling loki through time? my initial thought was that lokis been out of his timeline for too long but that wouldnt make sense bc sylvies been out of her timeline for AGES so there has to be someone behind it so either its sylvie whos unseated kang or its a kang variant (which seems really likely bc of avengers 5)
7. i REALLY want to know if this version of mobius has regained his memories or if hes starting fresh with loki
8. not enough hair flips :(
9. where has ravonna gone? i want to know if she is still working for kang or if shes been wiped too
10. i would like to see more of sylvies backstory in this season, rn shes just an op “superior” loki and i think her character needs to undergo MASSIVE renovation to redeem her bc she had so much potential
11. this isnt gonna happen but i want an aoa lady loki variant so fucking bad dude
12. lokis powers and character needs to be more fleshed out this season.
part 2
a few more thoughts
1. its interesting the way that lokis depicted as being pulled through time. like theres no time door involved and when tempads are used to pull someone through time u can see the person moving its just sped up or slowed down. so why does it look like lokis almost like glitching? it makes me believe that this is either a kang variant or some other force outside of the tva
2. the way that loki disappeared was so weird like it looked like disappararing in harry potter
3. the desert?? weve seen two notable desertlike scenes so far: the gobi desert and pompeii. this definitely isnt either, bc the tesseract is what pulled loki to the gobi desert and pompeii was to test that one theory. im wondering why he would go there tho, like is he looking for sylvie or is he looking for kang?
4. in the scene where lokis glitching ljke crazy u can see that he has on the straps for lævateinn’s sheath thing, so therefore i can deduce that this is very shortly after the loki s1 finale
5. its therefore likely that mobius has no clue who loki is in this scene, but if this is when its set, wouldnt the hallway be full of minutemen? the timeline is falling apart the tva should be in chaos BUT its not which means that this is likely not a main hallway of the tva. so is loki looking for something specific or is he just aimlessly running. he probably has a relatively decent knowledge of the tva’s layout since he was able to find mobius in the last scene of s1 and hes been working there, so either this new kang variant thats taken over has drastically changed the tva’s structure, this hallway bears some significance, or im overthinking this
6. the bluish room loki enters immediately after is VASTLY different from the tvas typical appearance. is this some new part of the tva we havent seen or is it something else entirely?
7. i think its really interesting that loki pruned a whole wall. like i find it statistically improbable that during previous fights in the tva no one has ever hit a wall or the floor or something with their weapon. so THEREFORE theres something significant about this specific wall. why can it be pruned but not the rest of the tva? is it bc the wall was established by a new version of kang and therefore is considered “foreign” to the old sacred timeline? hmm
8. there are still three faces. its hard to see all three unfortunately but there are still clearly three. is this new version of the tva being run by a triumvirate of kangs? also the new avengers movie is called the kang dynasty so this implies multiple kangs.
9. oh i REALLY want to know what the room with the windows/arched ceiling is. its def the tva bc the person nearest to the camera is very clearly wearing the minutemen uniform
10. this new dude sitting behind that desk is handing loki and mobius a sticky note. he seems eccentric, im very excited to see more of him
11. sylvie is no longer running between apocalypses. why? shes clearly not trying to get the tvas attention or lokis but hes def actively looking for her.
12. casey :( if they kill him i will LOSE IT.
13. theres two figures climbing over a roof, prob loki and mobius (side note im so glad that it looks like were getting more lokius interaction bc in s1 it put their dynamic on the back burner too much)
14. im so excited for this scene of them undercover at a party/event FUCK DUDE
15. WHO ALMOST HIT LOKI WITH A CAR LMFAO
16. LOKI USING HIS ILLUSION MAGIC 😩😩😩
17. IS THAT A NEW FUCKING LOKI VARIANT OH MY GOD
18. NEW JUDGE NEW JUDGE NEW JUDGE
19. im so glad were getting little moments between loki and mobius ugh

i am a man of my word and my word was that i would Share My Thoughts on thor #9, so, hi, grab some popcorn, pull up a chair, sit on the floor:
i hated it.  and i don’t mean the “i hate it” as in i love it like i usually do.  this issue felt like a mess reading it through The Loki Lens(tm) ... i don’t really know how to start this eloquently, so we’re gonna wing it!
thor and loki’s relationship is constantly changing --- we had thor force loki to bow before him in the throne room in thor #1, basically cutting off loki from asgard by calling himself a foreign king ... which, ok, fine.  loki did a lot of shit in war of the realms.  i get it.  but for thor to be the one begging loki in #9 like that just feels so off after all of that?  not to mention thor proceeds to lie to loki’s face about his intentions, while loki just stands there like Are You Finished? because they know what thor’s true plan is and they want to hear him admit / fess up to it.
and loki officially renounces the god of lies title!  which is great!  that’s been my vision for loki ever since aoa ... it makes sense, because loki wants to stray away from being villain-carded at every turn.  ikol doesn’t want to be associated with the original loki.  so loki falls back to the god of stories!  excellent!  i love it!  if only cates could REMEMBER what all the god of stories entailed!
loki had to go through so much to become the god of stories.  they literally lost their sense of self in the process of the rebirth.  they left behind all of the attachments, ignorance, and anger.  they gave up on thrones, grudges, the quest for power, and whatever old temptations they had.  a complete ego death.  and with that rebirth came a bunch of new powers!  (which, for the record, i have included in my canon, despite marvel writers forgetting about all of them after aoa.  umby does not forget.)  loki literally saved all asgardians and hel during the final incursion by using the god of stories’ powers.  they could travel through time, manipulate souls, and alter the past / present / future by simply understanding it.  that is what the god of stories entailed.
SO WHY DID DONALD BLAKE MANAGE TO TAKE LOKI DOWN THAT EASILY.
how did blake manage to literally break one of loki’s arms.  the last time loki broke an arm, it was when thor was going for the KILL, and loki wasn’t fighting back.  loki is 500+ lbs.  DENSE AS FUCK.  asgardian skin is not easy to pierce!  how the fuck did he just snap loki’s arm in one motion!  “he has gone rather majestically insane.”  cates this was a normal ass HUMAN that just snapped an ASGARDIAN’S limb.  INSANE...?  i’m not even going to touch on the fact that loki can do more than whoosh mystical green fire in combat.  my eyes are closed.  i am not perceiving.
last point.  and the point that is actually really getting to me.  “but i am loki odinson, king of jotunheim and god of stories and myth.”  loki ... who?  loki has never once referred to themself as an odinson (in terms of surname).  or at least, the number of times loki has used laufeyson is far greater than odinson, if it’s ever happened.  but let’s also not forget the times loki just dropped all surnames and went by loki of asgard for a while!  loki really just looked at their surname options and decided they didn’t want to remember their abusers for a while.  (valid.)  normally i would just dismiss it, because loki was working closely with thor in this issue.  and i love me some good sibling bonding moments.  but it genuinely feels like 616 is trying to pull ... The Odinson Moment(tm) from 199999 which is ... why.  when can writers recognize that 616 is the prime continuity and that these different mediums all comprise the MULTIVERSE ... and that it’s called the multiverse for a reason .....
tl;dr: when i said i wanted more loki content this was not what i meant, cates

have you ever talked about your favorite ships? in the maximoff/dane family i mean. besides billyteddy and jerichowanda. who do you ship tommy with? and lorna? pietro? nocturne?... (whispering) magneto?
Okay, so I’m actually working on an ask about Tommy right now (which I’ve had to restart twice because my browser kept crashing and you can’t save drafts from your inbox, hi @yamibakuraofficial i promise I’m not ignoring you) and I was gonna talk about it there, but I’ll talk about it here.
I have a deep, secret love for a ship that will never happen, and that I don’t actually want to happen in 616 continuity, and it’s Tommy/Loki.
You need to understand that I’m specifically talking about the version of Loki that exists between the end of Young Avengers and the end of Agent of Asgard. Loki goes through a series of transformations during this time-- from a child to a young adult, which eventually allows the Ikol and Loki personae to become more integrated; and later dying and regenerating in a different young adult form, the God of Stories, in order to completely shed their past and escape their destiny as the God of Lies. It’s important to note that this version of Loki is a new person, not a millennia-old immortal. In spite of their history, this Loki is a late-teens-early-twenty-something trying to find their way in the world, just like the other Young Avengers, and I legitimately think that’s the direction that Gillen, and later Ewing, were trying to take with this Loki character.
I held out hope for a long time that this Loki would reunite with the Young Avengers. Having grown, and literally become a new, better version of themselves, I was really hoping they would try to make amends. In this hypothetical scenario, I was really interested in what kind of dynamic Loki would have with Tommy. First of all, Tommy never knew Loki when they were a kid. Second, young adult Loki is totally his type. Both of his past girlfriends are brunettes who could kick his ass, and have. He likes gray morality (Lisa) and an irreverent sense of humor (Kate).
Tommy and Loki both know what it’s like to be unfairly labeled and misunderstood, even by their friends and family. You guys know I love misunderstood characters who understand each other. More than that, I think they’d have so much fun together, and be really funny together on page.
I also want to say that I’m eager to see trans and nonbinary people dating without unnecessary complications. Tommy is canonically straight, but Loki is a girl, at least sometimes, and I think we’re ready to see relationships like that in media.
Unfortunately, that version of Loki doesn’t exist anymore. The Secret Wars event from 2015 came hot on the heals of AoA, and it was essentially a soft reboot of company-wide continuity. Loki was one of the characters who got reset for the worse, in my opinion. Although they are still young-ish, it’s as if the transformation into the God of Stories never happened, and their trajectory has just taken them really far away from Young Avengers.

let’s tell a different story.  let’s be something new.
trigger warnings for death, murder, suicide, abuse, hallucinations, & trauma.
(  BEX TAYLOR-KLAUS,  TWENTY-THREE,  THEY/THEM, SHE/HER  )  ┆ ——  did you hear about how LOKI moved to sinking rock  ?  they are from MARVEL COMICS,  and i get the feeling that you could best describe them with laughter full of mischief and mirth, stories told around a fire, & a golden diadem with a horn broken off.  they aren’t sure how they found themselves in sinking rock,  but the last thing they remember was ACCEPTING THE CAUTIONARY TALE THAT COULD BE THEIR FUTURE.  the song that best describes them is I WANNA GET BETTER by THE BLEACHERS,  and last i knew, they were working as a LIBRARIAN. i wonder how they’re going to cope with the oncoming disasters considering they tend to BE PRONE TO JEALOUSY AND ANGER.
i just. should not be allowed to write intros for loki as it tends to turn into a giant ramble fest, but hey! it’s whatever!
stats can be found HERE & wanted connections can be found HERE.
CANON BACKGROUND
mcu loki? idk him
i write a strictly comics / earth-616 based loki
to begin at, well, the beginning, there have been three main incarnations of loki.  i’m writing the third one, also occasionally known as ikol.
to very quickly and very badly sum up the lives of the first two lokis: a) the first loki was evil and kinda a dick, became known as the god of evil b) he died, left behind an echo/ghost/copy of himself c) this echo/ghost/copy is actually ikol d) loki was reincarnated as a child e) kid loki’s haunted by ikol f) ikol murders kid loki and steals his body
no one but ikol knows about kid loki’s death
they wind up haunted by a ghost of kid loki
well, kid loki’s less of a ghost and more of a guilt-driven hallucination that won’t leave ikol alone
loki eventually winds up working for the allmother - freyja (aka frigga, for those familiar with the mcu), gaea, & idunn - to earn their redemption and make up for loki’s past crimes
however a loki from the future, king loki as he’s known, shows up and uh. ruins that for them.  the future that king loki is from basically has a guarantee of asgard prospering, but at the price of loki playing the eternal villain
loki’s understandably less than happy about this, quits working for the allmother.
eventually the truth about what happened to kid loki comes out, and loki is subsequently uh. well. you see. a) thor tries to kill loki, can’t bring himself to. still breaks loki’s arm, knocks a tooth out, and one of the horns on loki’s diadem/tiara gets broken off b) the asgardians basically say loki’s worth no more than the dirt under their feet and pretend loki doesn’t exist c) freyja banishes loki, says they’re no longer asgardian, and basically disowns them d) odin gives loki some very dubious life advice, then. yknow. sets them on fire? e) king loki shows back up, tells loki about how the asgardians will never accept, want, or love loki and that’s why they wind up betraying thor and the asgardians again, basically
and loki gets sent to the “metaphorical space” where they have a lovely conversation with the original loki and kid loki
og loki basically gives loki option a, to accept that all they will ever be is a villain
and meanwhile kid loki gives them option b, which is to. kill themself
in response loki, who has the support of the best friend in the universe - verity willis - basically says “fuck that shit, i’m gonna be happy”
and just a lot more stuff happens, but - the big important bit is what loki remembers here in sinking rock
which is that they have to accept the past, and acknowledge what they could be, to be able to grow and move past it
the “cautionary tale” is king loki - the only way to avoid that future is by learning to love themself.
there’s a whole lot more to all this that i’ve skipped over and honestly just read young avengers (2013-2014) and loki: agent of asgard (2014-2015) okay? aoa especially makes me SOB
FAKE LIFE
they believe their name is actually trixie giddings, and loki is merely a nickname
they’re sam giddings half-sibling
they’re working as a librarian and tbh they absolutely love constantly being surrounded by books, though they hate that they can’t read as much as they’d like while on the clock
they’re probably still having hallucinations
EXTRA NOTES
loki’s genderfluid, and my headcanon for their genderfluidity is that their gender flows more so between being a woman and somewhere closer to agender.  so she/her and they/them pronouns are good, he/him are not. but more masculine words (brother, prince, god, etc) are generally fine. get it? no? that’s fine, you’re more than welcome to ask me to explain more/better !!
their actual age is unknown (they’re somewhere between half an eon and a few years), so the age listed - twenty-three - is just their physical age.

hi i really like loki and want to get into the comics but. i really just want to pay attention to loki what comics would you reccomend for loki?? if that makes sense?
ok heres my List of things that have loki in them. its just what i personally remember reading or am keeping up with now so i might be missing some stuff!  i hope the cut works sdjhfskg
everybody says siege is important but i didnt read it until i had finished like literally all of this and its not a huge deal for what’s going on currently, so if it’s not your thing go ahead and skip it
Big Stuff
journey into mystery starting at #622: this is kieron gillen’s run with Kid Loki
young avengers (the 2013 one also by kieron gillen): continues off from JiM, team book
agent of asgard: his solo from 2015!
that honestly might be it, actually.
less important stuff that i still read and enjoyed. italicized is more relevant to the general Character Journey stuff
the mighty thor 2011-12: it runs pretty much concurrently with JiM and there is a not-insignificant amount of kid loki so if you like him and want more shenanigans check it out! but if you dont read it its not a huge deal.
axis event: there are some good pages of him and thor towards the end of the event. really not a huge deal but it ties into aoa. victor von doom is there.
squirrel girl issues 6-7, 16, 26, 27-30, 43-46 (currently only 44 is out) but like honestly just read squirrel girl anyway, its worth your time i promise
the mighty thor (2015): jane foster thor!!! loki shows up on occasion to bother her. post-aoa
doctor strange (2015 starting at 381): loki steals strange’s job. he’s bad at it
avengers free comic book day 2018: sara pichelli loki!
avengers (2018, jason aaron): loki is the villain in the first arc. its really corny but the art is pretty nice. he pretty much drops out of it after that and then the avengers go fight vampires in russia and stuff
thor (2018, jason aaron): loki is pretty important in stuff happening here and mike del mundo’s art is awesome
infinity wars (gerry duggan): distinct from infinity warps, the character fusion tie-ins and infinity war, the movie and Other event that the movie is based on. don’t you just love comics. loki is pretty pivotal in this but its a silly event and a lot of people dislike it, but i thought it was fun. loki befriends a jock librarian
wolverine: infinity watch: loser forms infinity watch all by himself. this is actually running right now it has one more issue left. loki and wolverine go on a space road trip and cause trouble for their new friend hector, who is the time stone i guess. its really funny
asgardians of the galaxy: kid loki is here, somehow. how? doesn’t matter. frog thor is there. he leaves eventually, for, reasons.
war of the realms event: he’s only there for the first one and then Leaves, also for reasons. the war scrolls #2 short stories have one with him in it thats pretty good though.
upcoming:
war of the realms omega, where loki will be back for reasons. also sets up…
loki’s solo comic by daniel kibblesmith in july! yaaaaaay.
i have a feeling he’s gonna show up in jane foster valkyrie but who knoooooows
mackenzie lee is writing a tie-in novel about loki set in like, victorian england i think, and thats coming out in september, if you like.. young adult comic book tie in novels
there was also a comic called Vote Loki but we don’t talk about that. there’s also What If Thor Was Raised By Frost Giants which is a oneshot that was mostly about loki.
in case this isnt enough, loki is /r/marvel’s character of the month and they’ve compiled a reading list that has more

So, am I the only one not thrilled about the possibility of a Loki series? I mean, sure it’s a great thing for Hiddles to be back as Loki and all that, but idk to me it feels a bit like second best. Like things at Disney went: ok we got all these big superheroes, let them play in their own big films, but yeah there’s this Loki guy people keep nagging us about, so let’s just make some half-arsed series so they’ll all be quiet.
I mean like. What possibilities for a plot do they even have? Unless it’s some kid!Loki or AOA or LadyLoki crap*, the ideas are a bit limited. Post IW? Oooh here we are back with the whole “did he or did he not die” routine, with the makers probably wasting just about as much time on an explanation as they did before (read: zero, aka ‘he just faked it [even though we’ve made that impossible by our own plot devices, but let’s just assume the audience won’t notice]’).
Pre-Thor? Interesting opportunities there, but enough to fill a series? I doubt it. And, let’s be honest, Loki without Thor is only half the fun, so they’d need a new Thor unless Chris Hemsworth gets down from his high horse and agrees to play in the series as well. I mean, I dare hope that the series will fill some of the gaps in the films, i.e. what happened in the void, what happened in Asgard after he took the throne, but that’s probably wishful thinking at best.
* Don’t get me wrong, these are certainly all valid and good and part of Loki’s character, but tbh I also very much want Loki to be Tom Hiddleston, and the way this is gonna go I’m kind of afraid that he will be in like 1 episode as an eyecatcher and then will canonically “shift” into another form, from whence on Tom won’t be in the series anymore and yeah...that’s not what I’m interested in, sorry.
And, also, idek, it feels a bit like....idk...after all the slander and “he’s too old to play Loki” and Taika’s and Russo bro’s other stupid comments and all the shite that has amassed since Ragnarök, I wouldn’t have done it if I were Tom. It just feels like a(nother) degradation of Loki’s character.
I will let myself be pleasantly surprised, but as of now I am not sharing everyone’s enthusiasm. Just an opinion, not meaning to spoil anyone’s fun.
Rant over, and out.

"Loki is telling the test-taker the completely wrong answers" Okay now I... really want to know more about Loki's entire story and pattern in this AU, ngl.
TO BE FAIR I don’t think Loki is aware that they are telling the test-taker wrong answers...they just....don’t care. Also, Loki can say things with an air of authority so the test-taker...let’s just say it’s Cassie because that’s shorter to type out...is two paragraphs in to a short answer about how one of the outcomes of the Vietnam War on global politics was a greater propensity for violent action movies and high tea tariffs. It’s specific enough that it COULD be right, but it’s absolutely not the answer the instructor wanted, Kate and Eli are DYING because the answer is supposed to be about the Cold War and the Battle Against the Communist Menace and the era of protests and and (”that’s a very America-specific answer,” David will say, restarting the Heated International Politics Debate)
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO ASK ME ABOUT LOKI, WHAT A BLESSING.
So Loki is...sort of older than the rest of the cluster. Partly because loki is Asgardian, and partly because we’re going with the “Loki was reborn and then Evil!Loki took over his body” arc from YA2. Basically, Loki was reborn on the same day the rest of the cluster was born for the first time, and since this was a New Loki, they still, technically, all “took their first breath as one”. I don’t know how you can tell that what with Asgard being a different realm, but let’s not worry about that. So obviously, the YA as we know them  never encountered kid!Loki, but because kid!Loki existed, that’s how Loki is part of the cluster.
For the most part, the plot is a bit MCU (mostly because I don’t actually know a lot about comics!Steve, and I need to have something solid as far as his timeline because I’ve got some Feelings about Dr. Erskine and the Red Skull) but Loki didn’t try to take over the world with Chitauri, he just did other dickish things before some AoA stuff happens.
The Loki that is part of the cluster is more God/dess of Stories, genderfluid trashcan Loki with a little bit of Vote Loki!Loki (though I haven’t read all of that, I feel like slightly sleazy politician/someone who is really good at lying is just a darker facet of that character).
Also, Loki is definitely I SHIELD Custody which is a half step up from prison but waaaay better than Asgard’s dungeons. Loki and Cassie will absolutely bond on how to short out ankle trackers and she’s going to learn SO MANY new things about interdimentional security measures, it’s gonna be amazing.
Cassie and Loki will, incidentally, make fun of one another’s accents nonstop when they finally meet in person

loki has to come back and personally im rooting for them to come back as a kid to confirm all the young avengers rumors
YES THANK YOU
( Got long so i put it under a ‘keep reading’ )
They’ve already casted Teen Cassie Lang
And idk if y'all remember the casting call for twins… Who else are twins in YA???? Wiccan and Speed!!!
Seriously if they don’t take the damn opportunity and let it fly over their heads when its RIGHT THERE
Honestly wtf marvel?!?!?!
( lissen I know AoA Loki and Kid Loki weren’t around too much for all the YA comics but before some ppl yell at me: I haven’t read literally all the YA comics,,, only a few so CALM )
Also it could be coincidence but recently Tom went through what Chris Evans had to do for A4 so they could get 2012 Avengers Cap (a.k.a shaving his beard, that’s what I’m saying)
And A4 is doing reshoots this summer, which tells me that they RUSHED PRODUCTION LAST YEAR (and that pisses me off just a bit)
So that could be some sort of opportunity for Loki to comce back?? Then again I’m like,,, 99.9% sure that the R*ssos do not like Loki so a small part of me doubts he’ll come back (besides a flashback)
If they cared??? They wouldn’t have made his death scene so cheap???
I mean they’re not the ones who wrote the scene but they just,,, let it happen which is even WORSE.
Sorry it’s so long I just have a whole tangent on this and I’m gonna be bitter about this whole Loki situation until either:
A) they fix this shit
B) they actually do start caring about Loki and actually use his abilities CORRECTLY (i.e: his skill is NOT only stabbing, R*ssos and whoever the fuck wrote those first 5 mins)
{ I could say the same about the whole Bucky situation, but with that I KNOW they’re gonna bring him back. If not, im probably gonna not watch these movies anymore… maybe }

Hey, because you mentioned comics, what did you think of the way Loki was represented after AoA? Because I was expecting him to be full on god of stories after that, and he just sort of wasn’t? Also wtf happened to Verity, I loved her… Is there any real control in comic continuity or do different authors just write their own take? I.e. Like fanfic lol!
yeah I’m not very happy about it.
I wasn’t happy about the Loki in A-Force during Secret Wars (who’s the traitor on this team? why, it couldn’t possibly be the obvious), I didn’t like Vote Loki at all, and I’m not very happy about the way Marvel is playing the “is he? isn’t he?” game with Loki in The Mighty Thor where he’s...referred to his recent history in one early issue? but otherwise seems to be playing for the bad team, at least for the moment, and idk how long they’re going to draw that plot out or where it’s going to go but I want to know, okay
like...I get that they rebooted the line, I get that comics characters tend to return to their starting place (witness Emma Frost, once again a villain apparently after spending years as a hero-to-antihero depending on the moment), but it does kind of feel like that character development has just been...dropped.
the degree to which there’s continuity between comics and even across the whole line varies wildly. sometimes the writing is consistent, sometimes it’s...really not. (witness how different the Laura Kinney in All New X-Men was from All-New Wolverine, even though they were running at the exact same time.) and the degree to which events from previous comics carry over into later ones...also varies wildly. sometimes plot points get followed up on, sometimes they seem to get dropped somewhere in between. probably some of it’s editorial and some of it’s writer’s choice - the degree to which that’s the case seems to depend on a) the editorial team and b) which character it is.
as for Verity, I’m...sadly not surprised that she seems to have completely disappeared. there’s a tendency for original female characters to do that. and sometimes for female superheroes to do that! for instance, where the fuck is Valkyrie these days.
anyway yeah I’m a bitter Loki fan about what’s going on in comics right now and while I’m willing to grant Jason Aaron that he probably has a long game and hopefully won’t throw five years of character work by Kieron Gillen and Al Ewing out the window, I don’t really trust that and also I’m sick of waiting for it to happen.

Whats your opinion of Jason Aaron's Loki?
I’m very much happy with the direction Loki has gone in, and I know that leaves me at odds with a certain portion of fandom bridging over from AoA but here’s my take on it. There’s a lot of people upset about things that quite frankly aren’t happening, and usually it’s coming from the conjecture of people who haven’t actually been following Loki through TMT and Vote Loki, people who looked at one issue and balked. AoA has not been retconned, Loki is not a Different Loki he’s still the God of Stories, and all of the character development in AoA has not been neglected or tarnished. Loki’s in the position of playing fake bad guy for Malekith’s team specifically to manipulate the events we’re seeing in TMT. In the end of AoA he swore off getting involved with Asgard’s bullshit but ended up cycling back around when it turned out his mother was in life-threatening danger and he had a chance to not only spare her but direct Asgard’s attention where it needed to be. So he got involved again, and over the coarse of the story we’ve been watching him perform under this terrible pressure of maintaining his sense of self while “working” for Malekith. He had a very telling conversation with Laufey where he adamantly defends who he is (which should have eased audience fears over whether or not his motivations from AoA are still there).
Right now, Loki is sort of the unsung hero of this story, doing the things that only he would be able to do–pulling off dramatic stunts, manipulating the narrative, playing both sides of the table–and while its very effective it is taking a personal toll on him. He’s depressed, conflicted, guilty. Right before the staged betrayal of his mother we get this line
Tumblr media
Loki is an incredibly complicated character, and I’m glad that Aaron isn’t ignoring that. Loki is in turns a playful goofball and deadly serious. The end of AoA wasn’t going to leave him in a permanently good place emotionally and while I understand wanting that for him, that isn’t how depression works and that also isn’t how good ongoing storytelling within a shared universe works. Loki is much better off than he was in AoA, he knows who he is and he acknowledges those terrible mountains he had to climb to get here and he’s better for it. But that doesn’t mean he’s all wrapped up with a bow on top and good to go forever. He revealed in Vote Loki that he’s having something of an identity crisis, trying to figure out where he fits in the world now. He wants to do the things that only he can do, he also wants to have fun and goof off, but he doesn’t want to hurt people and inspire fear but that’s exactly what everybody expects of him. He’s somewhere on the crossroads of using those expectations to his advantage while struggling with his own sense of damage control.
Now he’s gone and purposefully put himself directly at odds with Asgard and the shit of it is, it’s all to help them and nobody but him will ever see that. It’s likely he’s going to betray Malekith at a crucial moment, and I’m waiting for that shoe to drop.
So tl;dr: I think where Aaron has Loki right now is very compelling and I’m invested in all of this. I think it’s a natural and organic continuation of the character from where we left him off. Unless something very severe happens, I don’t think we’re going to see Loki take a backward plunge into real Evil(tm) again any time soon. Aaron is writing my favorite sort of Loki right now: walking that line and being useful but in all the morally ambiguous ways.
I want to point out that the biggest crime ongoing re: Loki right now is that Aaron hasn’t shown gender fluidity in TMT yet. Hastings in Vote Loki (which was concurrent with TMT) did, although it wasnt the best it was at least there and he took a shot which is more than I can say for Aaron right now. Loki is an established trans character and in a world where we don’t have very many, this popular and well-loved character being genderfluid and expressing that “on camera” is very important. There’s lots of baggage that comes along with this like the “LGBT-coding” of villainous characters that has been going on for decades and the shapeshifter thing and sketchy writing past around Loki’s gender expression but we aren’t gonna get anywhere with more positive readings (like the third act of AoA--it’s really as easy as just having Loki show up presenting female and just being Loki) if nobody’s willing to touch it again. :/So all in all re Aaron: LOVE the characterization, LOVE the story, LOVE the personality, all A+ Very Loki and I’m 100% on board for this. Just always wishing we could get some gender expression in there.

Loki Series Theories 1/?
After my Season Two Wishlist post wound up being long as hell, I think it’s best that my theory list be broken up into a few parts. Since I want to post my ficlet (too out of context in my opinion for AO3) for one way to integrate this theory into the Loki show (though not exactly in the way I highlight in this post), and because this one is involved as fuck, I decided to start with this one.
Kid Loki is Kid Loki from Journey into Mystery (the comic)
When Loki introduces the other variants to Sylvie he says something like, “Us from the future, us from the past, us…as an alligator.” When he’s referring to Kid Loki, he either says “us from the past” or “us as a child” (I’m so sorry, I’m writing this at 10:30 and I meant to go to bed half an hour ago, so I’m not going to check on this). If he says us from the past,” I think he’s wrong. I don’t think this is him when he was a child.
One, it’s not the same actor as in the flashback in (I think) The Dark World. Now, we know why that is: that actor is too old irl to play a child anymore. However, in the context of the fiction, this Kid Loki does not look like that Kid Loki. So what happened? Is he older, did this Kid Loki hit puberty? Maybe. He doesn’t sound like it, though, as far as I remember.
So I think Kid Loki is not him when he was a kid. I don’t think this is the normal timeline. Or, it is the normal timeline, because Loki doesn’t know how his timeline is supposed to go. So here’s how Loki thinks it goes: he’s a child. Then he and Kid Loki part ways. He continues to be a child, perhaps growing more resentful of Thor as he grows up normally. Meanwhile, in his mind, Kid Loki, for some reason at this juncture, kills Thor. And when he kills Thor, the TVA takes him in, prunes him, and sends him to the void.
But that’s not what happens.
Because Kid Loki is not 2012 Loki, as a child, making a split-second decision that ruined his life. This Kid Loki isn’t this Loki at all, at any point in his life. Actually, technically, 2012 Loki is part of Kid Loki’s past. But only on a technicality.
Because Kid Loki is the Kid Loki from the comics, not the flashbacks from the MCU. So, I’m going to try to integrate comic book Kid Loki into the later events of the MCU to make this work, but to do that I’m going to have to provide some context from the comics. And I’m going to get some things wrong, because it’s really fucking complicated and I think I’m missing some things. And also I read the Journey into Mystery run to get background on Loki’s character from Agent of Asgard that I didn’t fully understand in certain parts, not for the action plot, so I don’t remember some specifics of certain events I need for this theory. (Maybe one day I’ll do more research before posting, but today is not that day.)
Also, this Journey into Mystery is not the run from the 60s where Loki makes his debut. These comics came out in the 2010s. In-verse chronologically (I’m not sure about release date), it goes Journey into Mystery, Young Avengers, Loki: Agent of Asgard, in terms of my favorite arc. (After another author picks Loki up and erases all of his character development from the last three runs, Defenders: Beyond picks up where AoA left off.)
Okay, JiM starts out by introducing the first iteration of Loki. This first iteration was likely not the very first appearance of Loki from back in the 60s, I’m sure he’s probably died like eighteen thousand times in the course of the comics. But this first iteration of Loki is probably what you would think of when you think of a classical version of Loki (not Classic Loki, classical version from the comics). So pure evil, pure mischief, has it out for Thor, trying to rule over Asgard, etc. This first iteration of Loki has a plan. His plan has a few steps. First, he’s gonna purge himself from the book of the dead. This means that when he dies, whenever that will be, he cannot go to Valhalla (he probably wouldn’t go to Valhalla anyway since he probably wouldn’t die a hero), he can’t go to hel (so he won’t be punished forever as one of hel’s warriors. He won’t get to see his daughter, either, but I don’t think he really cares about that), and he has pissed off Mephisto, too, but he won’t be able to go to H-E-double-hockey sticks hell, either. This doesn’t mean he can’t die. He will die, he’s just not gonna go anywhere in an afterlife. (More on that later.)
The other thing he’s gonna do, is he’s gonna take over Asgard, like he normally tries to do. He’s gonna fuck over whatever business Thor’s got going on, he’s gonna kill him, he’s gonna cause Ragnarok, the whole kit-and-caboodle. So he’s doing all that, and he’s getting shit done. And then (and they might explain this in more detail elsewhere in the book, but I don’t remember. But in the prologue they basically say for some reason, no one knows why, so I’m gonna go with that.) And then for some reason, no one knows why, Loki decides, ‘This would be a lot more fun if I was on the other side.’
So he switches sides. He’s fighting on behalf of Asgard, now, against whatever hell he’s been raining down on it. (Not actual hell, I don’t think? But something of the sort.) Until he does manage to help Asgard out of whatever calamity he brought onto it. But at the expense of, one, the planet, so now it’s just a floating city over this little town in Oklahoma. And, two, at the expense of his own life. So now he’s dead.
Thor, as Thor does, and as we saw at the beginning of Endgame, misses his brother. (Which I love.) To the point that he starts looking for him, and I think maybe starts doing some other stuff, too. Some more active stuff than look for him. (This all takes place before JiM.) And eventually, he manages to find a kid. A little dark-haired, green-eyed, street urchin, who, he comes to find out, has a bit of his brother’s reincarnated soul hibernating inside of him. So (and I don’t know what the kid thinks of this) he awakens the reincarnated little shard of soul inside the street urchin.
So Loki is kind of back, but he’s different. It’s only a piece of his soul. The rest of him is somewhere, not anywhere in the afterlife since he erased himself from the book of the dead, but he’s not around. So Loki is now referred to as Kid Loki, and he remembers some of it. He has some of his personality, but he still has some of this childhood innocence from when he was just a normal kid. It’s this complicated thing where he’s kind of Loki and kind of not. And he’s also a kid, he doesn’t age up (that’s going to happen later). He’s about twelve, maybe.
He may look like a kid. He may, for the most part, act like a kid. But the rest of Asgard doesn’t trust him. So he spends a lot of time trying to prove himself, a lot of time needing to be rescued by Thor when members of Asgard try to air out their grievances about the old Loki on him.
At one point, as comics do, there’s this big battle of whatever (I don’t remember the details, I’m sorry). During this battle, Loki’s doing what he can, but he’s also twelve. So he enlists the help of Volstagg, who has a bunch of kids, so he’s cautiously trusting of Loki. He likes him when he’s acting like a child, and not so much when he’s reminded of the person Loki used to be. And Thor’s kind of off doing his hero thing, so he’s not really around Loki during this part of the comic. If I remember correctly, it gets to a point where Loki realizes, ‘Thor’s going to die during this. Thor’s going to have to die during this.’ And he doesn’t like that, and he wishes there were another way, but there’s no other way to end it, and there’s no other way to end it with fewer casualties and victoriously on the part of Asgard. So he orchestrates on his end what he can do to turn the tide of the war both in Asgard’s favor and against Thor. Loki essentially influences events in such a way that Thor gets killed by the enemy to save Asgard.
And Loki is beat up about this. First of all, he’s lost his protector, so anything can happen to him at this point. Second of all, he made a choice, pretty early on in this comic run, that he is not gonna be the old him. He is gonna try his damnedest to not be like that. And this kind of directly contradicts that. Yes, it was for the greater good, yes, Asgard won, fewer casualties were lost, but Loki got his brother killed purposefully. And third of all, he loves Thor, deeply. It’s really shown in this comic how much he cares about Thor, and how much he wants to be around Thor, and how much he wants Thor’s attention and affection and respect. So he’s really upset and he does grieve privately.
So to tie this back to the show. The timeline splits at the Ark. Thanos kills Loki. Classic Loki doesn’t die and goes off to his uninhabited planet. Our Loki does die. But, somehow (maybe he purged himself from the book of the dead. We don’t know what he did as Odin for four years), some part of him somewhere lives, and at some point after the war (after Thor 4, I don’t know where Love factors into this, I’m sorry), the child Loki before he’s Loki and Thor find each other, and Thor awakens that little soul piece in Loki.
And then we have Kid Loki. And then some big battle happens. (Maybe it’s Kang. They’re all outside of time right now. Maybe Kang ends up happening, I don’t know. I don’t know how this time thing works. I didn’t know how this time thing worked in Endgame, I’m confused as fuck right now.)
Anyway, something happens. Some big battle happens, and Loki’s like, ‘The only way to end this is for Thor to die.’ And somehow, the TVA, because the TVA’s been wrong before, thinks that Kid Loki killed Thor. Or maybe he just wasn’t supposed to let Thor get killed. Because I’m still saying that Kid Loki didn’t kill Thor, or at least didn’t do it. I’m still saying Thor got killed by some shit to stop this war. But, technically speaking, Kid Loki did it. He orchestrated some events that got him killed. He knew that was the only way.
But I’ll tell you this, he doesn’t love it. He’s beat up about it.
But wait, some more astute fans may be saying (to which I say, why are you still here? It’s been almost 2k words, go read something more interesting or drink water). Loki watched the entire tape of his life at the TVA and it ended with the Ark exploding. How could it have ended if he was meant to become Kid Loki? Because that was only the first tape. You know who else’s life is longer than one tape? Tevye and Maria von Trapp and Leonardo DiCaprio’s character in Titanic. Mobius didn’t even intend to show him everything on the first tape. He was trying to paint a picture of Loki’s character to get what he wanted out of him; why would he focus on a version of Loki actively trying to be better, a version of him more openly capable of showing affection toward Thor, a version of himself with friends (yeah, those friends were a hellhound puppy, a magpie with another shard of his soul, and a childlike illusion of Hela, but still)? Mobius didn’t even bother bringing that tape into the interrogation room, because Loki’s second life wouldn’t have served his purpose.
Now I want to talk about how canon I think this theory is. Do I genuinely think this is a possibility for the show, or do I just like how it sounds and would make this canon if I was writing it?
Canon Likelihood: Kid Loki is from the future, not the past…….Not Likely
Unfortunately, I think we’re done seeing him. I don’t think we’re gonna get anymore of his backstory, so we’re not going to hear about why he killed Thor, or how old Thor was when Loki killed him. Personally, I think it makes more sense for him to be JiM Loki. (Which is why I wasted all this time writing this post even if I don’t think it’s likely to be canon.) And! The goddamned episode where Loki meets Kid Loki is called “Journey into Mystery,” so why wouldn’t they reference that? But not likely. They just liked the shock factor of “I killed Thor.”
