I’m so sorry my response is so long, but I think it’s important we discuss!!

Hey! My main purpose of TKAA wasn’t to disrespect anyone :( I’m incredibly sorry if it came across that way. It’s a self indulgent fic, I realize, but when writing this, I wanted the themes to reflect my own personal struggle with religion. And as the author, I’m writing a fictional story from my experience. I wanted to write about the struggles of growing up in a religious household. I come from a Buddhist background, but I also spent some time in church and in youth group. I even read the Bible as a child because sometimes, it’d be the only reading material I’d have around as my dad has a ton of books about both Buddhism and Christianity in the house. I’d pray almost every night because it just felt right, even if I had nothing to pray for. Sometimes I’d have chats with God before bed because it was a way for me to relieve stress. To talk about things I can’t tell anyone else in hopes of some miracle.

Some people might say, “Oh? She goes to church? She prays? She reads the holy scripture? Well I guess she’s Christian.” And I sort of believed that for a while too. For the longest time, even I denounced pre-marital sex. From a young age, I had this idea drilled into my head that I’d have a giant scarlet red letter etched onto me if I were to ever indulge in lustful sin. I wanted to wear a white dress at my wedding, and if I had sex, I’d be forced to wear a cream one instead, and everyone would know. Virginity is such a social construct btw, nobody would know if you are a virgin just by looking at you. And I soon learned that being Christian isn’t just about the practice of the act. It’s about the principles and the foundations of being a good person. Maybe I figured that out when my pastor was forced to leave the church for cheating on his wife. It was such a shock to me, and it really made me rethink to put my faith elsewhere. If I couldn’t look up to the person who was guiding me, who could I trust?

What it means to be a Christian is different for everyone. There’s a lot more to religion that I’m probably not aware of, and I know I’m not the most educated person in regards to Christianity, I fully acknowledge this. But this story is based off of how it felt for me to teeter between a mindset of my own, and one that’s crafted for me by the adults around me.

Today, I’ve come to learn that sex is a very healthy activity so long it’s done safely. And that’s all that matters to me when people come to tell me about their endeavors. I’m not a judgmental person who’s fixated on the fact that “You’re supposed to be religious, so you should be punished for this. How could you possibly turn against your faith??” This might even apply to other religions as well, but I’m not the most educated in the matter. There are definitely irl cases in which my friends, who come from all different walks of life, experience the “falling” of faith as a child, an adolescent, and even in our adult life, I see it all the time. And a few of these cases stem from being put into the church, or the temple, or the synagogue as a child without choice. My parents took me to the temple, and they took me to church at the very beginning because I wasn’t allowed to stay home by myself. And therefore, I was exposed to religion without fully knowing what it meant to me. But when I grew older, I was allowed to make my own choices. So I stopped going to both places of worship.

I’m not trying to make this all about me though. I imagine this is a bit of a universal feeling. Maybe not everyone has experienced it, and maybe not everyone is religious. But maybe the thought of “what does religion mean to me?” has come across our minds. This is not about me “losing” my faith now that I’m an adult. It’s more of a rediscovery of how I see religion and how I choose to identify with it.

I identify as an agnostic atheist. My views on pre-marital sex have shifted since then. Perhaps this is a TMI because nobody asked about me in particular, but this is how I view pre-marital sex now (and by no means do you have to agree). I still think sex is a very sacred thing, but it’s something that I would want to partake in with someone I love and trust. With someone who is special to me, and whom I know I will not regret doing it with, even if I’m not married. And the characters of TKAA, although it may not be explicit, they’re also young adults who were birthed from a house of religion. The conflict of the story revolves around them sneaking around OC’s parents because they know it’s “inherently wrong” to do it. But just like me, and other young adults around the world, they’re figuring out how sex fits into a lifestyle like theirs, one in which they’re heavily involved in a faith that stigmatizes sex. They’re childhood friends, and even if they’ve never admitted it to one another, they’re very much in love.

Also, I’d like to mention that this story is based off of Fall Out Boy’s song “The Kids Aren’t Alright.” I love this song with all my heart because it resonates with me. For me, it’s a song for when I’m quite literally not feeling alright. It’s a song that tells me it’s okay to be down, to be hurt, and I don’t have to pretend. Most people might turn to religion, but for me, I seek solace in my best friend and in my partner. When the world is against me, including religion and my own mindset towards it, I can go to them for comfort. And that was the plan for the TKAA couple.

I mentioned from the very beginning that this story would be risqué because I would have expected criticism! It’s a sore subject, and it’s not meant for everyone. But it’s a story I wanted to tell because it was meant for me and everyone else who struggles. I mean no disrespect with this story towards Christianity or towards any other religion. And maybe there’s some truth to what you have to say. I’m not sure how the Tumblr community would react if this was written about another religion. I think they ought to keep in mind that this is just fanfiction.

Obviously I didn’t know that this fic would head anywhere. It was the 3rd fanfic I had ever written and published in my life. I literally fulfilled a request for a fwb!jk in 4 days. But I wanted the story to be meaningful to me, so that’s why I divulged into a religious theme. I got praise about the smut and I feel like that’s what most people got lost in. I would have too, but behind the story, there’s substance to it that not everyone realizes :( and maybe I should have done a better job at portraying it, please forgive me for that. I obviously couldn’t fit all that I wanted to in merely 10k words. But I want readers to interpret the story for themselves and to draw their own conclusions. To have discussions about this because it’s helpful to me and to the community to air out how they feel. You don’t always have to agree with my POV, but stories are a great way to make real life connections, even if this is fictional.

And let me tell ya, TKAA is a work of fiction with real life problems that I, the author, have faced.

Please let me know if I didn’t address anything :( maybe I missed the point lol sorry but this was basically my purpose for writing TKAA. The public perception of it isn’t in my control when my intentions were to write for me, as all of my writing is. Some users have asked that I write a sequel, but I have no idea honestly. I don’t even know how I could go about that. If anything, I think a prequel would be more appropriate in which I discuss all of these thoughts. And I really don’t mean to come across as offensive or hypocritical, that’s the furthest thing I want to do, but I can’t express how sorry I am if I did.

Oddity was known to be a jerk on dA; he often caused drama with his friend who was called “Ali” (FYI: This person no longer goes by Ali and is a male so pls don’t call them a her,,, I’m only calling him “them” in this journal because all of them go by he/him and it gets confusing) at the time by blaming things Oddity did on them. He also told them to kill themself after awhile and covered it up as being “hacked” by him.

He also scammed points from people and said Ali and Luke (mentioned below) stole them,,, which isn’t true. Ali actually tried to help said people get their money back,,,

 He also was dating someone called Lokidime on dA, aka Luke, (Oddity later admitted that he had only dated Luke to compensate for the fact he wasn’t dating Ali,,, gross). He never really talked to Loki and left dA for a few weeks without warning after he started more drama with Ali. Loki eventually learned about how Oddity was treating Ali and turned against him, but first wanted to talk to him about the situation. Oddity was ignoring his notes for weeks until he responded to one after awhile. They’re very insulting so trigger warning,,,

He said he was also using Ali and pretending to be their friend:

When these screenshots were leaked and put in a callout against him, he tried to cover it up by saying he was hacked,,, and blamed the people he was harassing.

Obviously he didn’t actually have any proof bc it wasn’t true,,, and the screenshots above prove otherwise. Obviously no one who had seen the screenshots believed him and thank god for that,,,

Then later this person appeared,,,? This is more than enough proof Ali didn’t hack Oddity but we have a suspicion Oddity made the account to try and cover up the things he said to Ali and Loki

He also made a “vent” (this far left drawing in the image above) that he had always liked this boy at his school,,, while he was constantly going after Ali. When someone told Ali abt all of this, here’s what he said:

Oddity claimed to keep “Ali” anonymous, but then later displayed their old dA account name in a post, which can easily be used to find their new and current social media’s,,, that’s extremely disgusting and disrespectful. And we have more proof Oddity uses people for free art,,, he joined artfight, promising to do revenge against anyone who attacks him, and when he got enough attacks, he only did a couple and then decided to quit,,, that’s so gross.

This is a really manipulative way to get free art,,, but then again, he did say all he cared about was art of his characters,,, :/

He also mocks/makes fun of straight people and emphasizes how “gay” he is,,, sounds a lot like fetishizing gay people

he also pretended to have feelings for me after the drama?? he claims his feelings were genuine but, I shit you not, about a week ago on his instagram story he said that in 2017-2018 he knew he was gay and didn’t like girls (which I identified as at the time) and that he was uncomfortable with them. so obviously he didn’t like me. not to mention he tried to make me break up with him when we tried dating by treating me like dirt and valuing me a bunch of times which is really fucked up. he also demeaned my trauma (I was abused by his ex and he blamed me for it saying I was just making stuff up). so gross

he’s got this massive ego and god complex too, he thinks he’s above consequence and doesn’t do anything wrong but vents about being a terrible person n stuff to get sympathy which is ironic

in fact I remember one time he called me out for ““pose theft”” just because in one of my drawings had a pose a bit similar to one he had. it’s appalling how big his ego is

honestly I tried for a long time to help him but obviously it was a huge waste of time, I’m over him bc he just doesn’t have any gratitude or consideration for anyone but himself. he thinks he’s his own character and has one of the biggest ego’s I’ve ever seen

like I wouldn’t be even talking about any of this if he wasn’t such an ass to me. but yeah he just blames everything on me so whatever? I don’t care what happens to him at this point he’s never really cared about me anyway

Overall, Pretty_Oddity is a narcissistic, selfish jerk who only cares about getting art of his characters,,, please do not support him or his work, he doesn’t deserve the traffic. he also blocks people for no reason, even people who simply follow him or say a friendly hello. We suggest deleting any art you’ve made for him as he doesn’t deserve it. He’s been using fabricated screenshots to “prove” he is “innocent” and obsessively posts about us... a sign of being guilty.

Red X Headcanons

Remember this guy? Who we never really discovered the identity of?

Well, it’s always bothered me since I saw the show. In most fanfiction, his identity is usually one of the following:

Jason Todd

Grant Wilson

OC with some sort of ‘X’ in their name

I’m not entirely sold on any of these three. Maybe it’s because I’ve developed my own headcanon, but nevertheless, here are my thoughts on each:

Jason Todd

The only way I could really see this working is as Jason’s backstory. As you probably know (Since most of you were born after he came back...) Jason was the second Robin, taken in by Batman after trying to steal the tires off the batmobile. However, he was killed by the joker, and came back as a murderous vigilante with a big grudge against Batman.

Most people like the theory because it explains why Red X’s skill-set is so close to Robin’s, why he might have known about the Red X suit, and it also creates a more dramatic rivalry between Dick and Jason.

However, I don’t agree that after Jason came back from the dead, he would go back to stealing things, specifically in Dick’s city. His grudge was always primarily against Bruce. Additionally, although he might decide after dying that it isn’t worth it to fight crime, I don’t think he’d just start a phantom thief career unless he had some other goal in mind. Additionally, he never really seemed to have anything personal against the titans. He also called Dick “kid,” when Jason is a few years younger than Dick. Maybe if he was working with the League on something, or someone was blackmailing him, he might keep his identity secret. However, in both of Red X’s appearances, he ends up going against his original goals to help Dick in some way- this is something he might not have the ability to do if he was working for someone. He also stresses his own selfishness.

So the number of contradictions in his identity would essentially make the Jason Todd/Red X a different character than the comics Jason Todd anyways.

Grant Wilson

In the original comics, Grant Wilson (The son of Deathstroke) is a fan of Deathstroke (He doesn’t know that Deathstroke is his father). He decides to go to HIVE to get the same enhancements as Deathstroke, and in return, takes up a contract to kill the Teen Titans (Who he has a grudge against, since they helped his ex-girlfriend Carol kick him out for being a jerk). However, the enhancements mess with his body’s chemistry, and the stress of battle causes Grant to die. This is what kick-starts Deathstroke’s grudge against the Teen Titans.

However, Deathstroke behaves a lot differently in the show. He isn’t shown to have, or at least know about, any of his children (Although Jericho, his younger son, does show up, and Ravager AKA Rose shows up in the Teen Titans tv show comics). His goal seems to be to have an apprentice of some sort. He first tries to get Robin, especially after Robin builds the Red X suit, and then tries to recruit Terra. After dying, he works for Trigon, and eventually comes back to life.

If Grant is dead, then at the very least, he doesn’t have a grudge against the Teen Titans for it in the tv show.

In the Teen Titans tv show comics, Ravager seems a bit more like comics!Grant than Red X does- she fights the Teen Titans to carry out her father’s legacy, and eventually is convinced to live her own life. This is a reversal of Deathstroke’s arc in the comics, and it makes it seem as though Rose has absorbed her brother’s role. Grant Wilson doesn’t have much of a personality beyond this (Seeing as he died in the same story arc that he was introduced in).

For a while, Grant Wilson was my top headcanon. It wasn’t until I came up with my others that I decided that Grant should take on a different role than Red X, as Rose has essentially fulfilled his role.

OC with some sort of ‘X’ in their Name

It’s very easy to make an OC fit the correct criteria. However, the fact that it’s an OC means that 1. It wasn’t the identity for Red X the creators had in mind (If they ever really gave Red X an identity) and 2. It is impossible for the viewer/reader to guess based just on the show. And that’s bad mystery writing, the culprit always has to show up at some point before the reveal. Can you imagine if Darth Vader’s true identity was Roberto Foxglover? Roberto Foxglover never even shows up in Star Wars! What would be the point of even revealing his identity if that was the case!?

However, for Red X-centered fanfiction, it works out fine because the reader knows who Red X is. It wouldn’t work out for a mythical season 6 of the show.

MY HEADCANONS

Red X has to be someone, right? I have two candidates as my top choices. One appears exclusively in the comics, the other appears exclusively in the tv show.

#1 Choice: Carol Sladky

Now I know what you might be thinking- how can kl-writes talk about always showing the culprit before their identity is revealed, and then bring in some random person?

Well, I did reveal it! I mentioned Carol in passing!

In the comics, Carol has even less personality than Grant. She originally broke up with him because he cheated on her. They got back together to investigate the mystery of why Starfire crash-landed in Carol’s living room, and later when Grant wanted to rekindle things, the Teen Titans helped her kick him out. She later brings flowers to Grant’s grave when he dies, and that is the last we see of her.

The good thing about Carol is that her lack of personality essentially makes her into whatever character the author wants, as long as the relationship to Grant is preserved. However, if Carol exists, so too must Grant.

Perhaps in season 6, Grant shows up dressed like one of Slade’s apprentices or heirs (Like Rose), but Slade has no idea who this guy is... because Grant is wearing a mask... I imagine that perhaps Slade never wanted his children involved in his life, which is why Jericho’s a hero and Ravager never shows up until after Slade is supposedly dead. Grant and Carol are rivals at first, trying to steal the the same things- Slade is either confused by the turn of events, wants them both destroyed (They’re after the same things as Slade...), or wants to recruit one/both of them. Seeing as Grant might want to be recruited, I’m guessing Slade doesn’t want to recruit him, either for family reasons (Slade’s not an idiot- he can probably identify his own son) or because Grant’s temper doesn’t mix well with the assassin lifestyle. However, they eventually grow close and start dating. The Titans have to deal with the fallout from any quarrels or break-ups.

There is one glaring argument against this. In fact, it was actually thinking about this argument that made me think Carol was Red X.

Red X is a guy

Is he, though? They’re the same height and build as Robin, but thinks they are more mature (Calling Robin, kid). This might mean that they’re older. On average, women tend to be shorter than men, except for a few years during puberty, and if the women are older than men. Obviously, this is just an average, but worth consideration, especially since height is used in a lot of cartoons to help show age, since faces tend to be simplified.

Additionally, given that Robin designed the suit for himself, it is most likely tailored for his appearance. Given that superhero costumes tend to be skin-tight, it would make sense that an armored, skin-tight costume would have the same proportions as Robin. The energy from the belt feeds into the gloves, so there is likely wiring in the chest area. For someone who didn’t build the suit, and who might not have access to the blueprints, it’s a bad idea to mess around with the internals simply for the sake of more comfortable tailoring.

The voice of the second Red X is noticeably higher than Robin’s appearance. This could be because the second Red X decided not to modify their voice, but Red X is noticeably touchy about his mask. Why wouldn’t they use a voice changer built into the suit? If their original voice is higher than Robin’s, it makes sense that the modified voice would also be higher. And since Red X at the very least thinks that they’re older than Robin, they probably have gone through puberty. A male Red X would either have about the same pitch or lower than Robin.

Given the low number of female characters connected to Robin or Slade (The others being the female members of the Bat-family, Rose Wilson, and Adeline Kane), Carol seems like the most likely. Rose shows up in the tv show comics under a different name, and Adeline’s a bit too serious for Red X’s character. Out of the bat-family, I would say that Spoiler’s personality translates over the best, but there’s no good reason why she would show up in Dick’s city and start a career as a phantom thief.

Other Idea: One of the randos who stole Cyborg’s automobile

Like Carol, they have no real personality, so you can do whatever you want with them. Unlike a true OC, they also become legitimate candidates as they show up in the tv show or comics, therefore it is reasonable that the viewer might determine their identity before the reveal.

I originally meant to write a fanfiction with Carol as Red X, but I find it easier to write about things than to write things...
