Title: first meetings [ii. the small pink-haired boy] Genre: just angst, drama, romance, historical fiction Pairing: Sorcerer!Sukuna x gn!sorcerer!reader (heian era; pre-curse sukuna)

Synopsis: in which you befriend the slave boy you’re supposed to spy on.

Warnings: not canon stuff, future dark themes,, smoll manga spoilers, slavery, whipping, mentions of rape, language and violence Notes: im kinda back i guess skksks also these are pretty much random au’s of my own take of sukuna’s back story uwu, theyre arranged in no particular order and you can read them in any order. This started out as a random one shot and i couldnt get it out of my head lol ksksksks, def not canon btw but it is canon that sukuna used to be an all powerful sorcerer before he turned to the dark side or smthng.

“That’s beautiful.”

Contrasting to your rather clean and prestigious appearance, the young boy was dressed in rags and had dirt painted on his face. You could tell by his uncommon red eyes that he didn’t want you here nor did he even want to be associated with you.

“...the boy is rather prideful.” your otosan recounted a few nights before, you’d usually have conversations like this since you were quite close with him and he did like to confide you with these things,“but he has spirit, he’d be good for a ward.”

“What are you doing here?” He spat, being a part of and the sole heir of your family meant you were also treated with dignity and respect, it seemed like this boy wasn’t afraid of anything or anyone, this made you grin wildly much to his disdain, “Oi, stop grinning like that. You’re creeping me the fuck out.”

“I’m Y/N.”

“And I don’t care.”

“Has anyone told you that you’ve got quite the temper?”

“Well, has anyone told you that you’re being an annoying bitch?” he bit back, five minutes into your first meeting, this strange boy seemed to want to get furthest away from you. He seemed to be rather ignorant to his overflowing cursed energy, your father was right, this boy was definitely no joke.

“That’s sad.” You pouted, “All I wanted to say was how beautiful that Kimono is.”

“I was at a store, looking for some clothes that best suited you when I saw a young boy of your age…” your otosan narrated, “Who had a rather high cursed energy, he seemed unaware with it. He works as an errand boy, I believe, he carries heavy clothes and silk… His looks are hard to miss Y/N, so I’m sure you won’t miss him...try to talk to him…”

The boy looks up to you, completely annoyed, “Well, you said it. Now fuck off, yeah?”

You chose to ignore him and just bend down to his level, you had no training for today so you might as well join the boy for a moment since you had time to kill, “You know, if you keep keeping that attitude up, you might scare the customers away.” you mumbled, loud enough for him to hear.

“Yeah?” he clicked his tongue, “Looks to me that you aren’t even here to buy anything.”

“He seemed rather…” Your otosan described, “perplexed...so you might as well go in my stead…”

“Ah.” your grin doesn’t seem to fade despite his rather rough way of speaking, “You just seemed around my age so I got interested.”

“No shit, now buzz off. I got no time for kids like you.”

He talks as if he was older than you, it’s no surprise. Boys like him tend to think they know quite a lot.

“Do you wish to tell me your name now?”

He was silent for a moment.

That’s when realization dawned upon you, why he seemed perplexed around your otosan, why he thinks you were an annoying buzz, and why he couldn’t reply when you asked for his name. You feel yourself inwardly cringe at your mistake, it seems like the boy your father took interest in is a slave with no name, “Twenty.” he mumbles, shrugging nonchalantly.

“What?”

“They call me twenty.” he recounts, his voice is still rough around the edges, remaining uncensored by his identity.

“Right…” you tilt your head, “Twenty…”

“You’ve got silks to bring to the next town, boy!” a loud voice calls out, cutting you short, making the pink-haired boy put the pretty kimono down and back for display. Without even sparing you a glance or a word, he retreats to the back and you’re left squatting there alone. You watch him from behind, specifically at the bandages that peeked through his wrists.

The boy had piqued your interest to the point that you made it your weekly agenda to visit him and a-some-nights agenda to watch over him. He still ignores you and seems to be annoyed by you every time but he doesn’t seem to be doing anything about it so you just sit there.

You were also still in awe by how much raw energy he possessed, you’d ask your otosan if he knew any sorcerers with lost children because it surely seemed as if this boy wasn’t ordinary.

“Just keep an eye on him,” was all your father said as you watch the boy close up shop late at night from on top of a roof, “He might make a great sorcerer and shift the tides.”

Your otosan was not one for gambling on people but it seemed like he made a large bet on this boy.

As usual, you’re watching over him close up. It’s late and the owner of the place walks out, a pipe on his lips. Right then and there, he slaps the pink-haired teenager right at the face, “You should’ve joined the customer awhile ago in the dressing room, boy.” he growls, “It would’ve been quick…”

You feel the negative energy emit stronger than ever and your grip on your knife is tight, “Don’t get involved, Y/N.” your otosan’s warning echoes in your head, yes your otosan may have been interested in him but he was never one to dwell in human affairs, saying they were annoying and a mess to clean up.

“...It seems like the lesson a few nights ago wasn’t enough.” you snap back to reality and watch his boss stretch out a whip with its pointy ends and you feel your blood run cold.

‘Don’t get involved-’

You ignore your otosan’s words in your head and throw a stone right at a nearby sign, resulting in a booming clang, making the cat nearby yelp outloud. The pink-haired boy jumps on the spot and so does the older man at the sound.

“Ah fucking-” the older man curses, tucking the whip back in, “No food for you for three days. Know your fucking worth, non-person.”

Your grip on your nodachi lessens as you let out a sigh of relief, whatever legal terms your father must be talking about needs to be done quickly.

On the next day, you’re on your way to visit him again. Carrying the bento box that you know he’ll refuse again because of his ‘pride’ yet you stop dead on your tracks when you find his owner and an older man talking, Sukuna seems to be standing behind them, looking quite uncomfortable.

It didn’t take two and two to guess what was going on, the amount of cursed energy leaking on him was strong so you could only guess this was the man who wanted to get his way on him yesterday. Your nose crinkles in absolute disgust, “Don’t get involved-”

Once again, you ignore your otosan’s words.

“Hey!” You call out, you see his red eyes widen, “What are you doing?”

The older man frowns at your sudden appearance, “None of your business brat. Now go home-”

“I said,” You repeated, your voice dangerously low, “What are you doing to him?”

“He’s a non-person, kid.” his ‘owner’ growls, you notice his hands dangerously close to his whip, “A fucking slave in simpler terms, now get the fuck out before I beat him and you.”

“You don’t scare me.” Your eyes are narrowed, truthfully, no one ever scares you. You were the heir of your clan. It was to be expected and drilled since your curse energy manifested when you were five that fear would come last, “Now unhand the boy.”

“This bitch-”

“Now, now.” The other man smiles, cutting the pink-haired boy’s ‘owner’ off, “Maybe I can take that young child with me too. After all, they seem to be good friends. Two is better than one…”

You watch the other older man snake an arm on the young boy’s shoulder and you could feel the fear leaking out, it was harder to mask and hide now.

“Is it alright to put a little scar on’em? So that they’d know-” He gets ready to take out the whip while your fists are clenched, this would be easy. You could get away with this later, at least you’d take the boy away from this place and help him control his energy after.

Yet before you’re able to land a blow, the pink-haired boy yells at you to move as his ‘owner’ takes out a whip to whip you.

For someone who didn’t seem to like your presence, he was rather quick to defend you, having his face get hit in the process by the sharp whip. Your eyes widen in surprise, “Ah, shit… Y/N, run!” he yells but you’re staring at his very bloody face.

It would obviously leave marks like the wrists and who knows which parts since he was always covered by that very loose raggedy kimono.

You clench your fists tightly and look up from his blood features, the ‘owner’ stops on his tracks when he meets your very cold gaze, “Do you know who you just messed with?” you asked, “You really think I won’t tell my otosan that you planned to make me your prostitute?”

“Y-Y/N, jesus christ just fucking run-” he tried to stutter out, any evidence of the prideful and strong boy who tried to shoo you away was now gone.

Yet like the stubborn child you are, you ignore him and instead take out your family seal and drop it in front of them, ignoring the pink-haired boy’s plea’s and watching the two men in front of you turn white as a ghost as they see the nameplate, “My name is Ryomen Y/N.” You stated, voice loud and clear, “And you better hope that I’ll let you out here dead or me and my otosan will hunt you down for the rest of your life.”

ACTUALLY ALL THEIR STANCES, Yanagi making dead eye contact with Gouki, Sikorsky with a firm pose just as Hanayama, Doyle with hiss chest up but eyes down giving a sense of pride, and, well, then there's Spec being Spec.

I like seeing Sikorsky having fun

The relationship these men can have is so oddly nice like not Doppo and Retsu specifically but all of the fighters in general. Like many of them barely know each other, but they all know their fighting styles and respect each other, plus have no reason to be in bad terms with one another and specially not now that they are all fighting for the same cause. It's just so nice to see em idk JAGSHS

Man, god, im just suddenly thinking about "ak/ur/oku" and like.. How the fuck did that even become such a huge thing in early 2000s fandom? Dear god so much early gay shipping in fandom was super unhealthy "sinful" bullshit made by straight people for fetishy purposes rather than genuine representation. But a/kurok/u was such a weird one because it was like.. Just globally accepted and never aknowledged to be problematic?? Man i still remember how lil 13 year old me didnt know there was anything wrong with it, like seriously when stuff like this becomes popularized it ends up sending bad messages to actual queer youth. Learning about your sexuality via the internet cos there's no sex ed irl for you, abd you end up stumbling into toxic fandoms before you have the critical thinking skills necessary to know that this stuff is bad and shouldnt be imitated. Like seriously one of the things i worry about EVERY NIGHT AT 2AM THAT KEEPS ME FROM SLEEPING is that stupid lil 15 year old me made a post on deviantart going like "are pedophiles really all bad? I mean it sounds like an illness. I mean maybe theyre just scared and they want help." Like im terrified constantly that someone will find that old thing and judge me as if i still believe that apologist crap, or as if it was actually an opinion i formed from a fully developed mind, rather than from a kid who (as far as i knew) had never met a pedophile, thinking about pedophiles in the abstract, while being influenced by fuckin pedophile-dominated fandoms and having NO IDEA. and of cooooourse i wanted to believe that i was mature for my age, i thought that was a compliment.. Uuuuugh...

But anyway isnt it kinda weird how akur/oku was just.. Not even regarded as pedophilia? And when i was a kid it wasnt just me not understanding the gross parts of the fandom, i legit never thought axel was that much older than roxas. And it was one of the more popular gay ships cos at that point as far as we knew it was the only person axel had any sort of backstory with, and he cared so much about this guy that he was willing to sacrifice his life to help sora even when he knew roxas would never come back. At the time without further context it seemed like a reasonable assumption to make? And it wasnt until Days that i realized axel was intended to be an adult rather than a teenager, and even worse A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO MADE THAT SHIPPING ART KNEW THAT. Uuugh it was so gross in retrospect to go back and see all the clues i missed that these people were fetishizing roxas's inexperience and veey much writing him as underage. AAAAAAA!

Anyway im glad that shit is now recognized as shit and now we have canon evidence of this dude being old as balls. And honestly i love the relationship of him as a big brother/dad to roxas and xion a lot more, even though as a kid i was desperate for any kind of queer representation in kh. Like.. I never really actually liked the ship that much or felt any chemistry? I just latched onto a few bad writing flubs that could potentially be interpreted as Gay Evidence because i was SO damn desperate! Like i felt like i had to support all these gross abusive ships in fandom cos if i wasnt then i was being 'homophobic', i mean they were THE ONLY AVAILABLE OPTIONS, right? :( Its only now ive grown up i can see how wrong that was, and how people just used it as an excuse to make gross shit and get away with it. Like how in Black Butler all these 'yaoi fangirls' kept erasing the rarest of rare things, a canon trans woman, because 'its sexier if its gay'. Ughhhh. And seriously that discourse still exists for poor Grell, and there's still a lot of these shitty bigoted people pretending to be allies, but like seriously this was EVERYWHERE in 2005! And lgbt rights and even lgbt communities at all were way smaller and less available to the poor teenagers who really needed that positive influence while they were figuring out who they are. So man the abusive side of yaoi fandom was WAY more powerful, and wya more.mainstream, with barely any criticism. And the whole content of this fandom was creepy fuckin adults making pedo porn, and kids who just discovered they were queer and tried to headcanon their favourote characters as being like them. Fucking predator heaven! So yeh that ruined KH for me and definately made me scared of returning to Black Butler for almost a decade. And then i found out that the manga itself has none of that pedo shit and that one of the fandom's biggest abusive gay man archetypes was actually a trans woman this entire time, and just gahhhhh....

Also like seriously this is a tad offtopic but can we kill the anime trope of either everyone looking young or everyone looking old? Or creepy things where just one character looks the wrong age in order to fetishize pedophilia? I dont think kingdom hearts was one of those intentional ones, like i mean there's super bad shit where its like 'this 5 year old looking person is really 9000 years old/actually 18 and just hasnt had their growth spurt yet' (somehow its even more insulting when theres not even a magical excuse) Or the other way around and we have a character thats canonically underage but drawn looking sexually mature with big ol knockers so its somehow okay. The existence of those horrible things is why i end up feeling uncomfortable even seeing ambiguous ages as just a trope in completely innocent anime, yknow? Like in pokemon and digimon all the 10 year old protagonists are exactly the same height as all the adults, and all the female love interests for ash have to be early bloomers in terms of chest and hips, while notably Iris is the only one who actually looks her age and also the first non love interest. Its another reason why i prefer the new art style for the latest season, they make everyone look like kids and Lillie continues to look like a kid even though she's the main girl and has all the cute scenes with Ash. The girls even got very normal looking kiddy swimsuits in the beach episode! Why is that so uncommon, to find the bare minimum thing of underage kids not being sexualized at the beach??

Soooooo yeah, thats at least part of why kid me thought axel and roxas were within a similar age range. Like i thought roxas was maybe 16 and axel was 18?? Somehow?? I dont even know, kingdom hearts isnt even SUPER bad with the 'kids look like older teens,all adults look like age 20 at the most' anime syndrome. Its probably more because id been raised on games and anime that followed that trope, before i played kh. And as a kid you just dont really know the exact differences between 'old', like i mean i knew teenagers were tall and boys get a growth spurt, so somehow it made sense to me that axel could be the same age as roxas?? And man even if i knew he wasnt, i was barely educated at all about pedophilia and i didnt know the nuances of it. I just knew 'its bad for adults to marry kids' like man i was really behind the curve in general learning due to my undiagnosed autism and abusive parenting so like HERE'S 12 YEAR OLD ME NOT EVEN THINKING ABOUT THE SEX ASPECT. And i didnt know that adults in relationships with teenagers was bad too, or like 16/17 year old teens dating kids... I was so fuckin dumb... I really cant believe that not only did i believe stupid adults saying 'pedophilia isnt bad if you're non offending, its okay to make cartoon child porn as long as you dont physically abuse real kids' but also i somehow just DID NOT EVER REALIZE that axel was an adult and roxas wasnt even a goddamn older teen...

So yeh im making a lot of excuses for why my stupid younger self was blindly parroting bullshit, but im not trying to excuse how goddamn wrong and bad it was. I still wake up ashamed in the middle of the night for crapoy decisions i made as a dumb kid, and in terrified that some shreds of it might still exist out there on the internet and maybe someone else could read it?! Gahhhh! Seriously could i have accidentally helped spread that bullshit brainwashing to other kids? And seriously when people say this shit is harmless they just need to look at this, look at how being into problematic yaoi is such a common 'phase' for ACTUAL CHILDREN. Like its not fuckin NATURAL for kids to fall into this stuff, they do it because they dont know any better but the people making the goddamn founding blocks of the fandom are fuckin grown women fetishizing gay men or grown men fetishing lesbians. There's people who do know better who actually conciously decide that a/kurok/u is a good ship while knowing all the goddamn details of what it actually is and exactly what theyre supporting by shipping it. This also applies a lot to the rest of LGBT+ aside from just gay shipping, like seriously it took me til age 18 to find any positive representation of trans people or even a proper explanation of what being trans is, yet before i was even 8 years old i'd seen a million 'lol gross man in a dress who gets sexual gratification from wearing women's underwear' jokes in kids shows. And when i was 12 i'd already been exposed to the fuckin hell of m/pre/g thanks to its prevelance of untagged n/sf/w shit in the kh fandom. And by age 15 i'd been exposed to pedophile apologists arguing whether child porn was okay if they only got off to that and didnt personally abuse that kid with their own hands. All of that shit but actually learning about homosexuality and gender in sex ed would have been 'too much' for someone my age...

God what a fuckin mess. Fuck im really really fuckin worried that any of my ignorant comments at those ages could have been read by other ignorant kids and contributed to that disgusting fandom atmosphere. Lance: has fucking blue eyes, is v perceptive, watches anime, was bullied when he was young and faked a stomach ache bc of it, can dance like a fucking god, can cook like a fucking god, actually remembers the bonding moment, loves the ocean/beach, loves swimming (duh), writes his adventures w/ the voltron team so that he can tell his siblings his stories, is good at taking care of sick ppl bc he has siblings so he takes care of everything behind the scenes at the castle, can play the guitar/sing as well, stays up late at night thinking about his family and how they’re doing, secretly wonders if keith actually hates him (which he doesn’t), compliments his lion constantly, is gay, makes jokes bc he likes to keep the mood at the castle light, has a lot of pets at home, has the best fucking aim in the entire fucking universe, goes on solo sniping missions for the team bc he’s the only one capable, would actually make a good pilot of the black lion, is actually soccer player and looks the hottest in a jersey, his family comes to his games e.t.c...

Keith: pining after lanceTM, is annoyed af bc lance doesn’t remember the bonding moment and always complains to shiro/pidge/hunk about it and they always get annoyed about it, ties up his long majestic hair, gets lance to teach him how to be a better shot, is scared to pilot the black lion, voice crack’s a lot, is an otaku, gets comforted by lance when allura was being a bi*ch about being galra n shit, folds arms all the time to keep from wanting to touch lance all the time, gets scolded by lance bc he’s too emo all the time, watches anime w/ lance, has a huge wall of theories in his room about all the shows he’s watching w/ lance and lance thinks it’s ridiculous, when lance actually does remember the bonding moment he’s rlly rlly happy about it and won’t shut up about it, has insomnia bc edginess, lance will save him in season 3 bc wE NEED MOAR LANCE e.t.c..

Pidge: knows that keith and lance like each other, is so annoyed and disappointing in the both of them when they both come and talk to her about it bc she knows they both like each other, loves to play video games w/ keith/lance/hunk, thinks of shiro as her dad (duh), the glasses r fake but she actually just likes how she looks in them and thinks she looks smarter in them bc she’s a dork, hates it when lance calls her a pigeon, hates when she gets made fun of her height by lance, hangs out w/ hunk a lot bc he actually knows what she’s talking about when she talks about her techy junk + hunk is just the best guy to hang out with, when she finds her brother + dad (or maybe just one of them rip) she’ll rip off her helmet and bowl them over with a gigantic hug and maybe they’ll say something like “you haven’t gotten taller at all haha” e.t.c...

Hunk: loves to cook bc he makes ppl happy, loves reading manga more than watching anime, lance is like his best childhood friend and they’re always hanging out, he gets kinda lonely bc lance is always hanging out w/ keith bc they love each other, but he’s happy for them, always tries something new with his cooking for the team bc he wants to cheer them up after a hard mission, he’s selfless and always thinking about his fellow paladins, loves lance’s singing and always compliments him about it, he can surf, loves to draw/paint/garden, shares a lot of inside jokes w/ lance bc he’s his childhood friend n all that, can speak samoan (bc he’s samoan), stopped vomiting bc he’s now comfortable riding n stuff w/ the help of all of his friends, he loves bright colors, the headband he wears all the time was a gift from lance when they were just kids...

Shiro: is the best fucking dad on the planet, gets tired a lot n really needs a damn break, always drinks coffee bc somehow pidge n hunk made a coffee machine, loves star wars and so does the rest of the paladins (keith would've been new to the fandom but loves it also), totally favors pidge bc she’s a smol lil 14 yr old girl among st all these dudes, tells people he isn’t a space dad, but then he totally is called by dad by literally everyone on the castle except for allura & coran ofc, dyed his hair before coming back to earth bc he was like *fuck it i need to look cool n edgy for this whole ‘voltron’ thing*, totally not gaY or anything w/ matt, although the allura/shiro ship i wouldn’t mind either, totally heard lance when lance thought he was a 7′th wheel (which he iS NOT ASJNGKAJNSFAS),

everyone: asks to try on pidge’s glasses until they drop them on the ground and break them and there’s just this long pause of silence till they all start laughing, everyone’s favorite thing is to be together doesn’t matter what just that they’re together having fun (snow ball fight, soccer, video games, pool competitions e.t.c...)

Rereading the pokemon adventures manga and wow i cant believe there's so much i missed as a kid! The individual issues they printed all only add up to one volume of the full version! And as a kid i never could find the last issue so wow those last few chapters were really intriguing and also super traumatizing!

I think its probably fate that i was spared those as a kid cos seriously it contains an arboc being sliced in half like a ham and a giant bunch of graphically rendered pokemon zombies! There's a moment where a psyduck fucking FALLS APART when Red tries to attack it. Just melts! With one eyeball hanging out of its socket! Seriously if they had to write this plot point for a kids series could they not have just drawn the zombies less realistically? Therrs plenty of zombie episodrs in kids shows but none have ever been so traumatizing! This is worse than lots of zombie shows for adults! I dunno how much more i would have been scared if i read this at eleven years old!

Imagine if the chapter ended with a little girl being like "Benji! You came back!" *hugs horrorduck* And then we have the goofy adventures of her and her ghost pal being adorable. She just totally doesnt see anything wrong with him and her mum is like AAAAA and she's like STOP BEING RUDE MOM HE'S JUST A LIL STINKY! And the spoopduck still has the same dopey psyduck personality even in death, its totally harmless if you dont freak out at its appearance, yknow? Too goofy to even realize that it died. It just wants to go home and hug its familyyyyyy!

Oh and in the chapter they had that gross melting scene and said it was just an empty husk of skin and bone with all the flesh rotted away. So TECHNICALLY doesnt that make it a mimikyu? An empty bag full of ghost energy that tries to pretend to be a normal pokemon. Just with its own corpse! So maybe the family takes their weird zombie duck to a doctor and theyre like "ahh hmn yes in my professional opinion, GHOSTS" And then he has like an operation to extract him from the bones he's possessing cos its making him all scared and confused and potentially dangerous. And then he's this lil black blob monster of whatever-mimikyu-really-looks-like except Slightly More Ducky and the lil girl accepts him no matter what he looks like and also "yay mum, the doctor said Benji's headache is all better now!" And they do a little family craft project to stitch together a lil plush psyduck costume for him to possess. Not really cos he's ashamed or jealous like regular mimikyus, he's a bit too goofy and hyperactive to eveb realize the full extent of what happened to him, let alone think complex thoughts about it. But he's really clumsy in his lil floaty ghost form, he was already clumsy in life and now he's like I SEEM TO HAVE LOST MY FEET BUT IM SURE I CAN FIND THEM OVER THERE *crash* So its like a therapy costume to help him adjust to being undead at a gradual pace.

And then just cute heartwarming scenes of this kid cuddling her slightly more squishy ghost mallard, dressing him up in cute lil bowties, feeding him snacks, flying kites together, taking him to show and tell, etc. And she loves him forever and he's just so happy to be home! Sometimes he still has nigjtmares about waking up alone in that evil graveyard surrounded by scary zombies, not knowing that he was one of them too. And sometimes he remembers being very sick for a long time and his trainer being very sad, but he was just so sleepy he couldnt keep his eyes open. Everything's all better now, right? His trainer cuddles him when he has bad dreams, and gradually they stop. and he gets used to his strange new condition and grows up into a big powerful ghostie who can protect her from all the bullies! And psyducks dont usually live more than ten years but this way he's able to stick around long enough to watch her grow up. He ends up becoming this wise immortal psyduck of legend amoung the duck pond! And that kid grew up to be a ghost type gym leader or something and EVERYTHING WAS GOOD AND CUTE FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!

Mimikyu psyduck... I dunno lol, call it Pseuduck?

And okay I KNOW in canon the pokemon adventures manga says that ghost type pokemon arent real ghosts and all those ghosts were just a gastly making illusions to pretend the tower was haunted as part of a team rocket plan. But that one psyduck was totally a mimikyu okay!!! Screw canon, i need this! BENJI WILL LIVE ON IN OUR HEAAAAARTS
