I'm going through my card pokedex and looking up what pokemon I'm missing and most of them have a recent card from either sword and shield or sun and moon except smoochum and elekid who haven't had a card released since HEARTGOLD AND SOULSILVER??
Katara- Lapras, Froslass (to represent the Painted Lady), Chansey (healing), Tentacruel? (poison type to represent bloodbending?), Primarina? (Starter?), Basculegion (to represent her tribe and their losses for which she fights)
Sokka- Lucario (given to him as a Riolu by Suki), Tyrogue (might evolve into Hitmontop, might not evolve at all), Ursaluna (given to him as a teddiursa by Yue), Minior (to represent the meteor he made his sword out of. Probably blue color, but maybe shiny?), Samurott (his starter probably), Klinklang (to represent his tinkering skills)
Toph- Excadrill (badgermoles, obviously), Steelix (metalbending), Machamp (her championship title), Tinkaton, Gallade (given to her as a Ralts by her parents as a kind of "seeing eye pokemon" that she turned into a fighter. Kept an everstone on it until she joined the gaang), Bewear (another gift from parents, but this time as more like a bodyguard.)
Suki- Mienshao, Urshifu (I want her to have 3, but couldn't think of a good 3rd one, except maybe she has both forms of Urshifu?)
FIRE NATION
Iroh- Drampa (old man/dragon, often underestimated), Turtonator (fire dragon), Polteageist (tea), Emboar (they have the same body type lol), Darmanitan (zen), Kingambit (I know pai sho isn't chess, but it's the closest we got, ok?)
Ozai- Houndoom, Infernape, Moltres? (The comet?), Magmortar, Zoroark (trickery), Mabosstiff?
• Sand benders (Si Wong tribes) use Hippopotas, Palosand, and Sandiles mostly
• Wan Shi Yong is an Alpha Noctowl
• Foggy Swamp Tribe use mostly Ludicolo line, Carnivine, Poliwag line, and Tangrowth lines, but any swampy pokemon will do. Bugs are common.
• As Lee, Zuko only uses his Doublade and Marrowak
• I want Spark Sparky Boom Man to use an Unown with a max power psychic type Hidden Power, but I don't know enough about Hidden Power mechanics to be sure that would work.
• Does penguin sledding use Delibird, Eiscue, or the Piplup line? These are the important questions!
• I purposefully made it so only the main characters/bad guys had more than 3 pokemon.
• I almost gave Zuko a Rayquaza, but he wouldn't have a legendary until he becomes Fire Lord
• Except for the Bouffalant, all Aang's pokemon can fly. (Regional varient that can fly?)
• As he is the Avatar, should all Aang's pokemon be shiny?
• Azula's crew all have an eeveelution. Azula has two, and I imagine the flareon used to belong to Zuko, but it was taken from him after the Agni Kai and banishment.
• Ty Lee wants to keep her eevee unevolved. Azula might convince her to "make it more powerful." If she does, it'll be a Sylveon.
• Zuko and Azula's mom got both of them a litleo each as kids.
• Fire Nation mostly use fire types, but electric are common enough. Earth Kingdom is mostly ground and rock, but steel is ok. Air Nomads obviously use mostly flying, but fairy is common. Water Tribes use mostly water and ice, but obviously the swamp tribe uses grass.
• The Earth King still has just a bear. It's not a pokemon. It's a bear.
Regional varient Florges with a headdress (possibly psychic type?) and regional varient eggecutor who's faces look like jungle ruins (possibly half rock type). Other than that idk
While I really like this idea I wasn't able to come up with any good ideas for a regional Florges since the flowers around its head already resemble Indonesian headdresses. So I didn't feel confident in my ability to create a design different enough to warrant a regional variation.
And with Eggecutor me and one of my brothers talked about the idea(he's been helping me with the region) but settled on not making a new regional form and using the Alolan form instead.
I do think Florges and Alolan Eggecutor can be found in the Donvian region though.
the Coastal region, and also the Canyon one to a lesser extent, house Alolan pokemon, which is pretty neat. with these DLCs, i think this means Scarlet has the most pokemon with regional varients where you can catch both so far. though, three generations ain't that much, it's still pretty cool to see.
also, i'd've thought Zangoose and Seviper would've been version exclusives, but apparently not.
A regional varient for Golemitan, an alolan golem/Galarian Darmanitan fusion
I kinda wanted it to be cute for some reason, since I can't help but view golem as "cute". I don't know why I do, but considering I also think eels are cute, it's probably from the same section of brain rot as that. It also kinda reminds me of Mario because of the mustache I gave it.
Anyway
It's a rock/ice type and it's abilities could include Gorilla tactics, magnet pull, or sturdy
Vulpix and Ninetales were ones I was really able to have some fun with recreating. Vulpix are going to be found in small groups. The Kantonian ones are sometimes solo but typically in pairs or trios. Having no treasure and not being territorial towards humanoids means it has little reasons to fight a party. They're very renowned for thier fur and being companions, so the party could easily find themselves sent out to hunt or capture these. They also make perfect companions for enemy rangers, druids, fey. They fight rather straightforwardly, relying on that lingering fire. Alolan varients will stay in thier family skulk of 7, often headed by a parental Ninetales, until the day they find a mate themselves. I'd recommend using them as companions for enemies immune to cold, using Aurora beam to punish a party trying to flank. Alternatively, have capturing one be a fun stealth segment for parties of level 7 or so, trying to capture/befriend one before the mother finds them.
Either Ninetales CAN be played as a straight monster, and a rather brutal one for an unprepared party. The Kantonian one will use its AoEs and lingering fire to keep the whole party damaged and burning. The Alolan Ninetales will dance out of reach, and control weather will make sure Snow Cloak stays up. To quote PMD, "We Ninetales are known to be vengeful in the extreme," meaning it will NOT let them run. If it's losing, it will escape and attack again later. If they try to run, mind spike will let it follow. However, I'd argue its better to use it as the intelligent fey it is. For instance, the Kantonian form left its usual savannas for a new region, the party must convince it to stop using Control Weather to dry the area out. A ranger or a local leader wants an alolan vulpix, the party must convince the Ninetales it they're worthy of one of its kits.
The Golden and Platinum versions are 900 year old Ninetales, and are the versions that the legends speak of. They're approaching the level of a minor archfey, and can be used in an adventure as such. Perhaps the party is vying for forgiveness of a cursed creature, perhaps the Ninetales sent a fey courtier to summon the party for a quest of its own. A Ninetales of this caliber will consider its region as under protection, and determine any corruption or slight against it as a personal attack. If the party does fight, it will act much like its previous versions. The Kantonian's mental prison will likely be its leading move unless presented with a good target for Immolation, while the Alolan will prioritize trying to line up a Synaptic Static. Spite is brutal against casters and make drawn-out fights dangerous, as the Ninetales quickly steals their ability to target its vulnerability or even thier healing. However, don't undervalue that extra damage, the best defense is having fewer people damaging you. A downed party member right now is more valuable than a lost spell in the future.
I’ve had brain rot for the past week and I came up with this idea.
While I was playing the game, the Frenzied Lords really reminded me of the totem pokemon that were like super buffed and huge and it made me think. “Huh, that would be really neat if someone from Alola who deals with totem pokemon a lot got sent back to deal with the new ones” and that’s how I came with this!
Coming from Alola Gris Skul (my oc) is dropped onto the beach with a certain item or two. Namely a single z-crystal for decideye and the bracelet, their phone, and their own Alolan Decidueye still instead their modern day pokeball
Being recruited by Laventon and the Galaxy Team, Gris feels at home in the open wilds since Alola was very similar with its separate islands. They have a purpose now, helping those around them and completing the first ever Pokédex.
They were previously working their way through the trials, almost able to reach the elite four, so they’ve practiced a lot fighting Totem Pokemon even with the lowest HP. However after a certain incident they quit and was on their way to Unova.
They have a Hisuian Decidueye as well as a welcome gift from Laventon, both named after their varients. Hisui and Alola.
So back to their items. Along with their phone the z-bracelet became Arceus-fied, granting a quicker recovery time between battles but given the ability to sense any warping in time/space from Unowns, rifts, or even changes in people. The ability only gets strong each time they quell a frenzy, the bracelet glowing more and more.
Their purpose being thrown back in time: To seek out all Pokémon. To be able to contain and control frenzies, Arceus’s way to slowly gift them power and become strong enough to mend space and time and also become a host for him to commune with humanity and Pokémon alike. Gris is unaware of this.
However, shenigans ensue and Giratina becomes involved, being the exact mirror of Arceus they are able to manipulate the bracelet, causing Gris much pain. Giratina attempts to take over the host before it’s ready, making Arceus enter the fray and put Gris at risk.
As they gain more of Arceus’s power, Unowns take notice and gather around them and talking. If talking was constant screeching that they are the vessel of the creator.
As God and Satan battle for custody, Gris is left struggling with the Unowns and trying to help the people of Hisui and subsequently not let two deities out, free to do whatever they please.
They make friends and begin to build a new life in Hisui.
A basic run down of what I have so far, I also drew a picture of my pokemon oc that I made for this au showing the corruption and divinity conflicting in them. I have more stuff planned so stay tuned!
So, I've been wondering, is there any notable difference in the temperament of Galarian Wheezings and the Alolan grimer line to their kantoan varients?
Yes, actually!
While Alolan Grimer and Kantonian Grimer tend to be generally similar in temperament, Galarian Weezing are noticeably much calmer and placid than their regional variants. It’s currently unclear why that is, but it’s very possible that it has to do with the toxin levels inside their bodies, and how it’s processed and expelled.
That is exactly the purpose of my studies! To find out how they get these type variants. What purpose would it serve a Vulpix to become an Ice type? One would think that a Fire type would do perfectly in an environment filled with Ice types. So here’s a picture of three of the Vulpix I’m studying. Snow on the far left, Ember in the middle, and Grave on the far right. Alolan Vulpix, Kantonian Vulpix, and Hoennian Vulpix.
My studies so far have shown that the types we see in Variants are the ones that have the highest survivability compared to other Pokemon of a different type. Obviously, an Ice-type Vulpix did a whole lot better in Alola than a Fire-type Vulpix!
That’s where the far right Vulpix comes into play... We all know that Snow is a pure Ice type. And we know Ember is a pure Fire type. Grave is a special case!
Grave can’t learn as many Fire types as regular Vulpix can. Instead, his Dark type moves have increased their power. And I swear I get an electric shock every time I pick him up... But clearly, despite these changes, he is still weak to Water, Rock, and Ground type moves. He’s still a pure Fire type. I just have to wait and watch his wild brethren grow and change to see if this will become a Variant all on its own.
