He cute...a little weird but cute!
Crona the mf Grogan x Chubby!Black Reader
Tumblr media
A.N: (Ok sooo ive never seen a fic with him and a black girl which is crazy because i feel like he like DOWN BAD for black and what black? we therefore we must write 🤭)
" He cries like alot'
" yeah, it's kinda sad because of Medusa if you think about it
" yeah, but still, he too creepy and he cries? that's like a serial killer code gone wrong"
Two people I call friends talks about the new boy at school, his names Crona I think? I dunno but, he was one of Medusas pawns for taking down the DWMA; which to me I knew the bitch was crazy when she came in with a bob and twists in her hair...BUT THATS NOT THE POINT! So, as they talked I just tune them out listening to music and drawing some doodles when out the corner of my eye, I saw him for the first time.
"Wow..is that a girl or boy?" I lean over and asked one of the girls to which they shook they heads no, Crona sits by Maka and a small smile glows his face; he's beautiful like REALLY pretty, I just stared at him a bit and when my friend tapped me to ask about something i saw he looked at me too..HE WANTS ME BAD LIKE HA!
*Two class periods later, now it lunch because we are big and hungry*
" Thats just nasty..." I say in utter disgust, BlackStar ass is putting cheese, meat, pickles and for some reason mixed milk and Soul dared him to eat it! Niggas are like weridddd, but as I was looking I saw Crona making the same face I was it made me giggle at how he looks utterly disgusted yet curious.
Me and my little group of friends sit down, and we eat some chips and snacks when Maka and Soul's group of friends came over. We look up and smiled since we all are familiar with each other, Liz and Patty sat across from me and Crona and Maka sat beside me on my right since my friend was too my left; Crona just seemed nervous and jittery so I whispered what was wrong? He just shook his head and then some bald black monster thingy came out of his back?
" QUIT BEING A WIMP AND TALK CRONA"
" Ouch! Stoppp I don't know how to talk to girls! Och Ragnarök!"
I watched in a confused manner and turned to Maka who was just getting ready to throw her book, Soul was just staring at BlackStar who was groaning in pain from his earlier concoction with Tsubaki shaking her head in disappointment. I look at Crona who now is sitting covering his head and I don't knew i just felt like comforting him.
" Ok na, that's enough, now go on back to where you came from"
" WHO DO YOU THINK YO-"
" CLAM IT DOWN OFFBRAND VEMON, keep it cute you saw him smiling and giggling all happy now you gotta mess with him? Thats sad"
Me and off brand get to arguing and I'm not gonna lie he ate me up a few times, but I kept up with him! As we argued the group was laughing egging me and black slimeball out; soon he just went back into Crona and Crona thanked me smiling, I told it wasn't big deal.
" I've really stood up to him...he's cool during fights, but I don't like when he yells at me"
" I don't either, you were all shy earlier now you crying! Here let me help" I get out a toilette from my bag and wipe his face off and he stares at him with wide eyes, I didn't know grey pinkish eyes could sparkle but his did; we started talking again except, Crona was more talkative really to me and Maka.
The bell rings and we all go to our classes but, me and Crona walk together to the courtyard.
" T-thank you for being nice tome when he came out, it not a lot of people who would argue with him"
" It's fine Crona plus, it made steal some of his comebacks" I laughed off, Crona had a small smile on his lips when I talked, he's a good listener. We mainly talk about interests and what he wants to do at DWMA, he told me about how Marie was helping him get over his past and Maka helping with making friends and even though he just got here I feel like I've known his story. As we're walking we both look at the creepy sun it almost time for our next class and I take a tiny snack.
" Want one? " Sure" Hès very simple, we eat a bit of the chips and continues our convo when I see my friends skipping; they called us over and Crona saw Marie, we parted ways wuth goodbyes and i walked over to my friends who are smirking.
" What's the smirks abo-"
" You like him!!!"
" Omg reader! You got a crush on the serial killer non killer dude!?"
They giggle and tease me for my little, tiny, molecular crush on Crona; even though they are right it still doesn't me they get to talk about it!
"I wouldn't say crushhh, more of a I think he's cute."
" But he like textbook definition of werido"
" Well, he's gonna be my werido! I'll talk about Pokémon cards and if Goku is better than Naruto any day if it with him!" I say with my head held high.
" BYEEEE NOT HER IN LOVEEEE" they say in unison, and I speed walk away from them with a smile, and the thought of cutesy Crona Gorgon with flowers and the title ' my werido' engraved in my mind.
Yeah, he may have crybaby, whine a lot, and is kinda serial killer but doesn't kill traits but its cute on him! He's weird and I'm gonna be weird with him!
Tumblr media
A.N: ( OMG THIS IS SOOO ME CODED AND SOOO CUTE, and i know it isn't describing the body type but I'm chubby so Imma write it like that because we don't have nothingggg with him, but yea! Let me know if you like it!

For the SE HC ask: 4!!!
Going for SE Askboard @h0lly-hued-s0ul has made!
Ik it's a bit late but better late than never dkfbdokf
Also going for most of the youngsters bc they're my little precious weirdos uu
Offer a hobby-related headcannon for any character.
Soul
We should all be aware by now that soul is a huge music nerd even if he's pretending to be "just casual" About it but somehow I could even imagine that his guilty pleasure is also baking since... Have you seen the cute little tea and cakes he sometimes brings Maka when she's studying for exams like crazy??? He claims he just buys them from "that one little bakery" That Maka suspiciously never finds but in secret (not really) he really does them by himself and is proud when they're well liked!!
Maka
She's deffenly a little sport nerd kinda girl that got to like things like Basketball and soccer/football quite a lot, but she also would still enjoy a good book (or ten) at times as well next to solving crossword puzzles and other Puzzles and riddles!
Basically everything that makes her Brain go brrrr! Also idk how much it's connected to the hobby aspect, but I hat girl would have Duolingo on her phone and use it almost religiously every evening before bed!
Oh but also she would have a big knack for poetry and writing overall even if she's sometimes quite shy about it since Soul and Black star made fun of it a few times-
Tsubaki
Everything around gardening and cooking???
She also would simply enjoy long walks and nice quality time with her friends since Tsubaki really is this comfy person that likes a calm life but also the fun and more adventureous aspects of it;;;
A part of me can also imagine that she'd enjoy something like Yoga and Ice skating a lot when she gets the chance to do it in peace-
Black star
Sports nerd! Everything that resolves around movement and putting his brain on serotonin 24/7 with the bees on crack he apparently has in his butt-
But also we already saw that he also enjoys comics a LOT and would totally be into video games as well even if he would loose to patty constantly!
Kid
He'd actually like things that put his mind off ease? Like he very much enjoys cleaning much more in a healthy but for many weird manner since who likes cleaning am I right?? But also is very open and keen to things like Chess and plenty of other board games he most likely plays with Liz and Patty almost every Saturday night unless Liz manages to escape :')
Also hey! I can imagine him liking to draw a lot as well together with Patty Duke while listening to murder mystery podcasts-
Liz
Shopping and dancing Q U E E N!
Ik it's basic but hear me out! She just loves fashion a lot and can give people a lot of advice for this topic and would occasionally do makeovers if you let her!
She just blooms so much doing that and seeing how much people can show their other sides as a well! Also my bc especially is that it was initially her idea when Crona was kidnapped on a shopping spree and she would even just offer Ox so many hair stuff in hopes he'll finally STOP shaving it all off like bro.. PLEASE!
Other than that she also got those moves and surprisingly knows a lot about music as well so her, soul and Kilik can actually connect and vibe together super easily and well!
Patty
Again, patty is a huge art person!
Of course she likes other things like beating people up with a passion, but she just loves to be creative and takes almost every medium bc why not trying everything and see how it goes??? Life is too short to be boring and plain!! Patty would most likely also like to bake as well but her creations are.... Experimental to say the least-
At least Stein and Ragnarok do like her stuff weirdly enough..
Kim
Also a little doodle enthusiast but she really would have a knack for Crochet and knitting too since Jackie has taught her the latter! She would rather die than to admit her hobbies and pleasures but she's a big softie when it comes to her interests!
God forbid people would even find out that she likes "girly" Stuff like figure skating and dancing as well.. Oh the horror!
Omg she would also have a secret love for flower arrangements as well but that's just me having more lore and hcs for her past as well that I won't (and likely never will) fully elaborate on :'DD
Jackie
Similar to Kim she loves knitting but also has a big talent and interest in Tayloring as well?? That girl probably had a bit horse phase as well and would actually love to get back into it at some point but a horse in the middle of Nevada is a little too much to ask for-
A bicycle would do as well I guess???
Idk why but Jackie seems a little bit of a person that enjoys Theatre and Musicals a lot as well so take that for what it-
Also little side note I want to add bc it's sth very dear and personal to me but glass engraving and the like?? It just fits quite a bit to her qvq
Kilik
Batic and Linol printed shirts!
The shirts he wears? Self made! The necklace?? Probably as well!! Also another music and Sports enthusiast even if he's more into more combat related sports rather than just running around for a good time!
He seeks the thrill and the surprising so unless you throw something at him out of the blue, he'd just see it as plain and simple training-
The drums are also his hobby but it's less than a hc than it is actually canon in the manga;;;
Overall he's pretty much an everyman kinda guy that has a good amount of Hobbies and interests that overlap with many others he sees as friends!
Fire & Thunder
They're still young as hell so I can't say AS much about them as I like to but they give a lot of crafty energy and would probably get a collecting hobby phase as well like for crystals and all!
Less for the esoteric aspect but more for the minerals itself!
Ox
Again not as much of an HC than it is a fact, but that guy takes a lot or enjoyment into research and other things that make his brain tingle like chess for example! Like he just LOVES burying himself into old history and folklore about plenty of topics and cultures and can easily spend days in it if Harvar wouldn't remind him to eat something in between-
Again I really don't know why, but something in me also knocks at my brain doors and continuesly shoves the HC in my head that Ox actually has a talent to actually draw?? Not like Patty where it's very imaginary and expressive, but more in a sense of scenes and architecture!! Basically pretty black and white and stuff!!
Harvar
It's super ironic but like Kim he actually has some hobbies he either won't admit to or people simply wouldn't believe it since why would a guy like him he interested in something like THAT???
Like liking to go swimming is one thing people could still get behind bc he hates boredom with a passion so it's good to stay active but him actually being into exact the same comics as black star is just super funny in my and it's very much the absolute opposite of Harvar sooo..
Omg but on top of that just.. Imagine him actually do liking video games but nothing like a souls game, but f*cking animal Crossing-
Of course he also likes research and chess a lot like Ox (even tho he's by far more competitive there) but he screams like Modelling as well! (The crafty stuff like building trains or Lego etc)
He just SUCKS at art tho which actually frustrated him-
Bonus
Crona
Crona most likely would catch some interest for poetry and other writing related things as well since they can actually express themselves much better with it without having to speak about it and they don't even have to show it to others as well.. It actually already helps that it exists in the first place and that they have something they can look at like "I made that!"
Aka bullet journaling sounds like sth tame enough for them but still sth to keep their mind somewhere unrelated to u know.. The whole childhood ordeal-
Basically they would enjoy many things that won't put Crona into the spotlight or that is to be shared forcefully so even if it's just reading something, it's just.. Nice;;
Also please give Crona sth calm like Animal Crossing-
Let them share an island with Harvar or Maka dkxbfodndp
Gopher
He sees something that peeks his (or Noah's) intetest, he HAS to overanalyze it and write every crucial detail down!
Like we don't just talk about one smarty little journal! I'm talking about whole Bookshelves worth of Infos written by that puppet alone!! Even his calligraphy and poetry/writing skills and hobbies are top notch and would rub it under Makas nose a LOT!
Hell he would do it so much that even Ox would have to remind him that he was meant to be Makas super annoying rival and not him pfffff!
(You could say that annoying Maka is also a passion of Gopher)
He would actually like to just casually fly and travel around a lot as well even if it's something he just does to get a job done.. If he'd focus more on the aspect itself, there would be much more appreciation etc!!
Also God forbid but he'd be into dnd as well-
My brain tells me to so it must be true!/j
THANKS FOR COMING TO MY INCOHERENT RAMBLING!!!

Thoughts on Maka?
That is vague, lol. But, yes, I have a great many thoughts on Maka.
Starting with what we see on the anime (I've only just started the manga). I love her ferocity. I love how utterly determined she is, and how...centered she is. Even when she does have problems like the initial naive response in the first battle with Crona, or the later anger with Black Star when they are failing at the resonance link... She gets over things pretty quickly. She refuses to let anything hold her back, no matter how frightening.
Soul's wound is obviously the biggest struggle she has, but that's sort of...her growing up phase. I mean, poor baby girl is SO scared when he gets hurt, and even more so when Medusa reveals herself. Can see that girl trembling... Like...she had to grow up, right there. It all became real in an instant. And seeing Stein and her dad battle Crona and briefly encounter Medusa... Maka saw the reality of the world she lives in, really for the first time. Like...girl you are SO out of your league.
But she doesn't let it stop her. Yeah she struggles for a little while, but the whole time she's aware it's a struggle... She never gives in for an instant. She's pretty amazing.
Which makes it easy to see why Soul adores her so much. Yes, yes I ship it. But this post isn't about them~
I have a few tiny headcanons... Like, I bet she gets her love of books from her father. Probably as a young death scythe, Spirit was assigned to study up on lots of things. I love the image of tiny tiny Maka on her papa's lap while he has a book on his knee... Some complex history of the kishin or something, who knows. And he reads aloud to her. And she just starts to love words and the turning of pages...
I stole the headcanon that the black coat was her mother's from @midnightcaptions, haha. She'd want emblems of her mom as she fights, since she's decided to make her mother a huge source of inspiration. Even though I don't think that's warranted, cuz what mother just leaves. Why is her favorite memory of her mother the divorce? Something's seriously sketchy.
Also wanna headcanon the pigtails are a leftover from her dad too, and she just doesn't remember. While mama was away...Spirit couldn't keep the long locks of hair untangled, so he did pigtails to keep her hair tidy. Plus he just thought it was so stinkin' cute. And she kept the style as she grew up, not realizing he gave it to her first.
I do think she has a weakness... I don't think she ever forgave herself for what happened to Soul. She got stronger, yes. But I don't think she forgave herself. I think that's why she was the way she was about Crona... She was determined that he not end up like Soul, which looks different for Crona... Her protecting him/preventing him from harm was...having him be a normal, accepted person at the academy. So anything less than that she took as a personal failure, since she's the one who brought Crona there. It was almost like...if she could succeed with the new friend, it would absolve her of the failure with her weapon... But obviously, that is flawed thinking on her part. Still my headcanon though.
This DOES run the risk of her making a mistake down the road... Like, what if her running off to help Crona that time ended up being the deciding factor in the battle against Arachnophobia? In this case it wasn't, but... Someday it could come down to something like that. So she still has things to overcome, areas to grow...
But yeah... Maka is just fierce and never gives up, and keeps herself really centered overall. It's really inspiring. Really looking forward to seeing what happens when the manga diverges from the anime.
Thanks for the ask!!

Now on to more head cannons
I hope this is an accurate
Tumblr media
Hazel aesthetic and head cannons and also mentions of Nunez and Selena
He enjoys watching TV or playing a game on his phone or sometimes when he's with Beatrix he reads a book he loves Beatrix but he doesn't like how strict she can be he also enjoys going to Arcade sometimes and winning a prize or two he does like talking to people and sometimes going to parties but sometimes he just can't handle it when he has a headache he loves blue and purple colors sometimes in bright and Poppy and in light and pastel to give you an example on what he likes to wear I feel like the character he can sometimes relate to is Crona from Soul Eater
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hazel sometimes has a hard time picking out his clothes but it does help that Nunez has good taste in fashion so sometimes she offers her help to pick out an outfit after his drag show so he has something to change into that's comfortable
But keep in mind that he is a feminine person so he like to wear dresses are skirts
On a darker note he is kind of a strange relationship with a bit of his family considering how they disapprove of Nunez and Selena
Friendship he doesn't see why they would disapprove of her she isn't dangerous and she never hurts or disrespects the family or Selene
He does like Nunez and that she is a very understanding and willing person he expected to get some comments from her about his choice and outfits but he never heard a single peep out of her about it which kind of surprised him
He also enjoys spending time with Selene
The first time he met Nunez like a brother should he didn't quite trust her at first but after a while he realized that she's quite trustworthy and understanding and willing so he became good friends with her but the thing that caught him off guard is how Nunez and Selene
were inseparable after finding out that Nunez has abandonment issues and Selene has separation issues
He actually felt stupid for a couple of seconds
Now on to close anesthetic
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He likes the more standout dresses once that aren't in this era and love some people stare at him shocked he doesn't really care what people think what makes him happy makes him happy but it does wear pants and dresses and skirts so I guess you can kind of call him
He's a bit on the skinnier side so he gets a little self-conscious when he wears oversized clothing but he doesn't mind it much
He's also into wearing pants yes and he almost always has makeup and he is good friends with Nunez since they both like girlish clothing and Nunez is good with makeup and he also likes it when she does his makeup sure maybe it's Maybe simple but she tries her best and it usually ends up looking simple but again she tries her best and she doesn't want to mess it up and she does leave him to pick out the outfit and accessories and his other hobbies are listening to music and chatting with other drag queens
Sometimes he enjoys wearing black and black skirts and it doesn't mean he doesn't own some boots or some Flats he enjoys wearing cute and light colored dresses but mostly in blue
He also likes to wear earrings and necklaces and cute heels and also like thigh highs and ruffled socks

Listing my favorite animes (because I’m jumping on the bandwagon)
❗️⚠️ *spoilers!! (Duh)* ❗️⚠️
5. Deadman Wonderland
Tumblr media
I was really really sad when I found out this anime got cancelled. The music was fantastic, the animation was really good, and the voice acting was incredible. Even the fucking dubbed version (I loved the voice they chose for Senji. God he was hilarious). I binged this show so fucking fast it wasn’t even funny. I loved watching the characters go through their own struggles and grow as people in the very small amount of episodes provided. There was a lot of development within the snippet that we actually saw, and I was thoroughly impressed with how well it was done. I wanted to scream or something when I found out there wouldn’t be a second season.
Sigh. Oh well. At least we got some of the manga’s masterpiece translated into a show, even if we were missing some fucking awesome characters.
4. Guilty Crown
Tumblr media
Ugh, don’t even get me started. This anime was beautiful and I got so invested so freaking quickly. I literally go back every few years to rewatch it because I get ship starved.
Shu and Inori’s story was so beautifully done; between Shu uncovering his courage and Inori’s journey of self-discovery, I was continuously awe-struck and filled with feelings—I mean, I had never felt such raw emotion while watching something and I was completely blown away by the affect it had on me. Anger, hatred, sadness, it was all there (even for the main character lmao) and it was one of the first times I had ever felt a ship so heavily that I literally cried at the end. It was one of the very first Animes I’d ever seen and was one of the reasons I got such a taste for them. Thanks for throwing me down that rabbit hole, GC.
3. Soul Eater
Tumblr media
This was literally the first Anime I’d ever seen, and my god I couldn’t have asked for a better starter. What I like about this one is that it’s style is so unique and different. It’s very punk and grunge, something I admired and appreciated in a genre that is normally the opposite (like Guilty Crown, for example). Also the fight scenes were badass, like holy shit just look at that gif ??? Freaking amazing.
I loved the way the show transitioned from light hearted to intense and adrenaline pumping so effortlessly. That can be said about a lot of shows, but this one went from *haha cute show* to *holy shit, like they’re actually gonna die ohmygod howaretheygoingtosurvivethis* so smoothly I was genuinely surprised. They made one of the main villains actually cool and each character had their own beautifully done arc. I loved and adored how the show solidified and expanded on the different friendships/relationships that were involved—specifically Soul and Maka’s (also, holy shit, Stein’s arc? Fucking prime, dude). There was a lot of growth in each and every friendship (CRONA!!!), and that really pushed the viewer to invest in the individual characters.
I am fucking delighted that this was my first anime, and (though the ending was a little anticlimactic) it remains one of my top favorites to this day. It set the bar pretty fucking high, and for that I am extremely greatful.
No one asked for Soul Eater: Not! It is the unspoken sin of the Soul Eater world (then again, it is called Soul Eater: Not!)
2. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Tumblr media
If you have been following me for a while, then you are no stranger to my love of FMAB. Some of my most popular posts are about this anime, and for good reason.
Unfortunately, I was late to the party. I actually didn’t watch this until last year, but got invested really damn quick. I have a tendency to be extremely picky about the animes that I watch/like (which is why NONE of these shows are that recent), to the point that I will literally research them before I start watching (a bad habit, do not copy me). I have an incomparably hard time finishing a show when I start, because I get bored really quickly, but this was an exception. I started watching and I just... didn’t stop. I spent a straight week watching FMAB, gobbling it up during any small amount free time I could manage, and finished it before I even knew what happened. I wasn’t picky about it, I didn’t research it, I just dove right in and gosh, I was not disappointed.
The subtle romance that was alluded throughout the entire show was super cute, the devotion the brothers had for each other was to die for, and the struggles that each person went through was more than moving. I never once found myself bored while watching, and that’s saying a lot for my adhd ass. I was invested in each and every second of that damn anime and I was never, ever left underwhelmed. That probably had to do with the fact that every. Single. Character. Had a purpose. I’m not even kidding. Every single person contributed to the big fight at the end and that alone is fucking fantastic.
Not to mention ALL the women, every female character, was a badass bitch. None of them were reduced to sex appeal or romantic subplot, they all had real feelings, real arcs and real, unadulterated badassery that I thoroughly admired and appreciated. I could watch this anime over and over again every single month and I wouldn’t get bored. Between the emotional struggle, self discovery, and personal development of each character, I promise you will not see a lack of plot or meaning here. The more you watch, the more you discover and that is not a lie. There are so many layers to its story, which only makes me wish I had watched this sooner.
There is nothing I have to offer in the ways of criticism, and for that I couldn’t be happier. Thank you, Hiromu Arakawa, for such an incredible piece of art. You deserve every bit of love that this manga/anime gets. You go girl.
1. Cowboy Bepop
Tumblr media
Holy shit holy shit holy shit this anime is so fucking good and it has been my favorite for so damn long. I have been watching anime for years, and while some of the shows in my list have moved around, this one has yet to be bumped down from the top (and I doubt it ever will). There’s a reason it became such a cult classic.
For starters, the animation. I mean, just look at Spike and the way they animate his fighting (yes I am aware that this gif is from the movie, but that still doesn’t change my point). The sequences in the show/film have been reused in many other shows and for good reason. It’s good, incredible, actually and they make him look so badass with just a few hand movements. I was consistently impressed with the way the fight scenes were portrayed and wasn’t ever left underwhelmed or disappointed (or, for that matter, feeling like they completely over exaggerated/overcompensated the scene with huge close-ups and tons of debris and lights). I loved watching this and my heart was always pounding with every intense interaction. I didn’t feel bored during any of the episodes and always found myself laughing when they cracked a joke—pretty much all of their funny lines hit and that’s saying something, dude.
Tumblr media
The show, while having a lighthearted surface, has a heavy meaning that you don’t see at first glance. It’s about dealing with grief and loss, and how the characters themselves accomplished that in different ways. The most prominent quote is the biggest indication of its moral “you’re gonna carry that weight”. Basically: ‘You’ve gotta pick up your baggage, because the world moves on, with or without you’. Or ‘You’re going to carry that weight whether you like it or not, because life keeps going’. When I figured out the show’s actual message, while staring at my ceiling in the long hours of the night, I almost cried. This realization brought something entirely different to the table, a new understanding of the show’s characters and overall essence.
The main characters, all of them, had depth. They had real, palpable depth, and even if you didn’t want to care you found yourself seriously interested in their lives. Each of them had relatively shitty pasts. Faye with her lost memories, Spike with Julia and the people who fucked him over, Jet with his old flame and the ISSP, Ed and her/his father... throughout the entire show we got to see how all of them dealt with these things, whether they wanted to continue on with life or not. The way they portrayed it was engaging, because the characters individual, contrasting journeys weren’t repetitive or one note. The beauty that the show holds so achinging close to its core, the layers of grief that the characters are wrapped in so delicately is almost suffocatingly real—because they’re all different. It’s something you discover when you think on the subject in a deeper light, which is another reason why I enjoy it so much. It has both a surface story and a deeper one. You can either take the show at face value or choose to understand the underlying moral.
This show inspired my very first, thoroughly fleshed out OC, and continues to inspire me to this day. It has contributed to my own personal growth, and has helped push me to continue my art and writing. It is beautifully written, beautifully executed and even though some of the episodes seem like filler, it has never disappointed me. I rewatch it all the time because there’s something so infinitely refreshing about the beauty of this anime, whether it be the way we watch the characters develop or the overall moral it portrays. This show has given us a message that is essentially timeless, it can be ‘carried’ through generation after generation, and still have the same impact—something I absolutely fucking adore.
I owe so much to this anime, including my very own artistic development. I discovered it during a really shitty time in my life and I couldn’t have asked for better timing. I will never tire of the bittersweet message or the thoroughly fucking fantastic animation. Everyone who contributed to this masterpiece deserves love, because it’s seriously fucking gold.

Some cute/interesting things i noticed when re-watching soul eater:
kid saying, “weapons love blindly” when tsubaki talks about black star improving
black star getting pissed that maka got hurt and goes after arachnophobia to get revenge
the gang helping crona adjust to life at the DWMA
black star and maka being the most protective over crona
the gang having parties just so they could all hang out together
kid and black star’s entire journey to find the sword excalibur
liz’s “smart girl mode” when she studies for the written exam only for the scene to cut to her painting her nails
kid begging liz to let him do her eyebrows
marie’s crush on stein oh my god
the fact that marie has to make their tea in beakers because stein probably doesn’t have any actual cups in his house
stein’s laboratory slowly getting brighter as marie adds her own personal touches since they’re living together
the relationship between maka and blackstar!!
they’re opposites in almost every way but still hold a great deal of respect for each other
the kids teaching crona how to play basketball
liz and patty being hardened criminals in brooklyn only for liz to be a soft-hearted girl who’s scared of nearly everything and patty being a complete airhead
stein saying that some students are slower than others academically and looking straight at liz, patty and kid
soul being impressed that patty managed to turn her entire test into a paper giraffe
black star telling tsubaki that she can depend on him a lot more than she already does
maka losing the basketball game and having to hang out with her dad as punishment
liz and soul bonding over music
liz gradually having more patience with kid’s OCD
crona growing stronger and braver due to maka’s influence
marie quitting her job as a teacher solely so she can beat medusa’s ass
mifune getting embarrassed over the thought of becoming a teacher at the DWMA because he’s a softie around kids
liz overcoming her fears to help kid when they went to sarcophagus!!
she’s probably the only one in the group who is hesitant to charge head-first into dangerous situations but she’s willing to do so if it means helping out kid
blair eventually living with soul and maka and being a source of encouragement for them
marie using her healing wavelength to save stein and maka from madness
“if we’re fools, we’re fools together. that’s just the kind of team we are.” tsubaki nakatsukasa a.k.a. best girl
seriously tsubaki needs more credit, her character and her relationship with blackstar isn’t nearly talked about enough
crona breaking away from their abusive mother and developing healthy, positive relationships with maka and the others
any episode that focuses solely on patty, liz and kid
maka being a sweet, studious girl who is also full of rage and ready to throw hands at a moments notice

Soul Eater Height Chart
(guesstimation)
Before I start I just want to say that these are not canon and neither are the ages so I don’t know for sure. I just wanted to make one of these for a late fandom that I still love. Okay!
Tumblr media
Maka Albarn:
Height: 163cm (5’3”)
She’s not that old meaning she’s probably going to grow more but I don’t think she’s 5’0”. She’s around the age of people starting freshman year (in America). She’s probably mixed between American and Japanese (depending on her mother) so she’s on the shorter end of the spectrum.
Soul “Eater” Evans:
Height: 173cm (5’7”)
He’s not that tall compared to Maka, and he’s around the same height as Kid. Lord Death is, obviously, very tall meaning Kid is probably tall. I would say Soul’s definitely older than Maka (since he rides a motorcycle) so he’s around 15-17. Probably in the final stretch of his growth. I took account his hair, which is always spiked upwards.
Black Star:
Height: 167cm (5’5”)
Black Star is around the same age as Maka, meaning he has a few more years to grow. He’s not the tallest of the bunch but he’s not the shortest either. And since he’s only a few inches taller then Maka, and a few inches shorter than Soul I just placed him at this spot. (He’s still growing so like, remember that).
Tsubaki:
Height: ~182cm (5’11”)
I placed her as taller, because canonically she’s taller. Even though she’s from Japanese decent she’s show to be above average height (consider her older brother, she’s almost his height). She’s also canonically older, in fact all the weapons are older then their Meisters. (I don’t even know why, it’s explained somewhere.) But I think 5’11” is a pretty good height for her, Liz and Blair which are all basically the same height.
Death The Kid:
Height: 176cm (5’8”)
Again, Kid is probably pretty tall because of who his father is (Lord Death is fucking tall, fight me). I think at the end of the manga he’s like 6’2” (at least from what I saw in a head canon) so I wanted to make him decently tall. Not too tall but definitely tall for someone his age. I guessed that he was probably around Soul’s age 15-17, because let’s face it, this kid didn’t need to be in school and has been hunting to the perfect symmetrical weapon, if I had to guess I would put him late 15, probably 16.
Patti:
Height: 176cm (5’8”)
There’s not much to say here, I think Patti is like maybe 16. Liz is most likely 18, because I like to think Liz and Patti are two years apart (it’s a good time frame, fight me). Since Liz and Patti are probably American, they’re most likely pretty tall. DTK and Patti appear to be the same height so that’s why she’s 5’8”. Still a cute smol bean.(edited- I forgot about her heeled boots)
Liz:
Height: ~182 (5’11”)
A QUEEN! She’s probably one of the oldest, right up there with Tsubaki. She and Tsubaki are pretty tall meaning they’re, QUEENS. I can’t say much except for the fact that she’s probably American and I rest my case. (American girls average height is around 5’5”-5’6” so I put her slightly above average). ‘Nough said. (edited- Again, I forgot her boots)
Crona:
Height: ~179 (5’9”)
This bean is taller than I would have thought, but they’re such a cutie either way. They look to be only slightly taller than DTK, but they could also be Kid’s height and it’s just their shoes. You never know. (Also I love Crona, they’re my favorite. Representing us gender fluid/non-binary kids).
Blair:
Height: ~182cm (5’11”)
Tall cat. Long cat. Cute cat. ‘Nough said.
Spirit:
Height: ~180-185 (6’0”- 6’1”)
First off, I love that one picture (y’all know which one, the one where he’s reading to Maka) what a hippie looking dad. So soft and pure, too bad he’s a player. Anyways I think he’s around this height because he doesn’t appear to be super tall compared to Tsubaki/Liz/Blair, you get the drill. But he’s also not that short so I couldn’t make up my mind between the two. Let’s be honest, anime has such a strange height chart and I’m comparing actual height charts, the creator of Soul Eater’s other series, BONES other series.
Stein:
Height: ~185-188cm (6’1”- 6’2”)
He’s not that much taller than Spirit/Death Scythe, so I couldn’t make up my mind about him either. Plus he’s sometimes slouching which makes it even harder to guess so I’m just putting that there and leaving it alone.
Death:
Height: ~213cm (6’11”-7’0”)
He’s a fucking God for crying out loud. Lord/God/Deity, whatever, my point is height and physics doesn’t apply to him. He could possibly be taller, I don’t even know. Point being he’s the tallest out of everyone here and you can fight me on this.
Asura:
Height: ~204cm (6’7”)
Again, can’t pin-point for sure because I don’t really remember much about him expect for that fact he creeped me out when I was younger. I know he’s pretty tall when he’s placed next to Lord Death, but not as tall. I just gave him the height thinking Lord Death is probably 210cm (7’0”) tall, which he might be.

First of all, holy shit this blog’s almost reached 1,000 followers.
Secondly I’d like to pose a question to everyone following:
Would you guys like me to reblog solo pieces of Maka and Crona to this blog alongside the croma content?  Obviously for the Crona ones I will maintain the integrity of never reblogging any posts that genders them, and as for Maka they’ll again just be some nice cute solo pieces.  I figure this way I can make this blog a little more active than its been.
Secondary question related to the first, but would you guys want me to also include any angsty stuff/blood/etc or no?  I love CroMa with all my heart its become such a nice comfort ship for me so running this blog I wanna make sure I’m giving you guys the best of what you want, so please reply to this post if you can with your thoughts on this!
tl;dr should I reblog solo pieces of crona and maka as well and should I or should I not include angst and/or pics with blood in them?

FALLEN (SOUL EATER FANFIC): CHAPTER 1
THE PINK ANGEL
An hour later, the bus pulled into a parking lot and I had seen the Death City sign posted in front. A wiggle of hunger stirred in my stomach. I shifted my gaze around, almost surprised the place didn't have a high fence and a locked gate. Even after the events of practically a war months ago.
This was, after all, considered to be full of "troubled" teens.
Oh, I haven't introduced myself.
I'm A.C. Heard of me? Good. You're not suppose to anyways.
Well look. It's not, my thing, to come into this kind of world. Being surrounded by younglings whom pursue to abolish corrupted souls with their fighting abilities and magical Weapon-friends.
Anyways, back to A.C.'s first day.
While walking through the large city, I made it to a strange building with large candles, large skulls, and large spikes coming out of it. I'll give it some of my amazement, I think it's a unique architecture. I made it up the stairs and the front of the school was crowded with more human tee-....Lordie, can you say freaks?
One girl wore nothing but red -- red lipstick, red eye shadow, red pants, and a red long-sleeve shirt. Hadn't Red Riding Hood gone out of style? Where was this girl getting her fashion tips? Hadn't she read that colors are in? Like black is the new red? And then there was a boy near the front of the entrance. He had both his eyebrows pierced. There was even that one girl in the bus, her hair dyed three different colors - pink, lime green, and jet black.
They belonged together for sure. They all wore name tags that said 'Meister' or 'Weapon'.
But even in this supernatural part of the world, the stares started to grow. Not at Red Riding Hood. Not at the member of Big Hero 6. Not even Gajeel Redfox 2.0. Just ole me.
I couldn't blame them really, not everyone has long layered pink hair and blue-ish, grey eyes. But maybe that's not why they were staring at me, maybe my inhuman beauty. And I'm not being narcissistic or anything, it's just natural for my kind.
It grew distantly quiet but I didn't mind or care, I started walking into the entrance of the building and everyone murmured and murmured, getting out of my way. Whistles were heard and mouths dropped just a little, and I rolled my eyes in return.
Inside was like a great big private mansion, made of creamed-colored stone but had a line of red and black here and there. Ivy grew up one wall, and they'd let an OCD gardener have his way with the grounds. Extremely tidy.
I looked down on the map of the building that was in my hands and made it to the Shinigami's "office", called the Death Room.
Peachy.
"Hey kiddo!" The friendly voice was not welcoming in my ears, and the skull-masked creature with a cloak didn't make me laugh.
"Death" appeared as a being covered in a tattered piece of pitch black cloth with many jagged edges, decorated with a cartoony skull mask, which seems to serve the sole purpose of imitating an otherwise absent face—a means of rendering Death more humanoid and thus making him more comfortable for humans (particularly children) to communicate. He also appeared with large, foam gloved hands from his side, in which seemingly materialize.
Those enormously huge hands that could have been used more as weapons, "Good morning!
Welcome to DWMA! Today is the start of our new year, so sorry for the crowded entrance there."
“Hmph.”
"I'm guessing this is a urgent message? Enough to ask me to come to this place." I said. He chuckled a little, but my ears focused on the sound of wheels behind me.
I turned and a scientist (so it seemed) was a tall man, even by sitting on a chair, and had a handsome face. But then again....
He rolled through the long walkway and then collapsed, tripping over a crack. There was a moment of disbelief and Death must have felt the same way. Stitchy here scratched his head and stood up like nothing happened.
"Good morning Lord Death." He said and bowed to the Shinigami, I stared at him and read him like I did to the girl earlier today. Like how you would look at any person really. I looked, and then it happened again.
I call it Index Mode, when I can feel a thrill in my skin. Finding out his ability, his name, and his personality.
His most notable trait was likely the large screw-in bolt going through his head. He often turned this screw, a means to focus his thoughts or as he prepares to attack an opponent.
Another notable detail about Stein's body, as well as his clothes, are their zig-zag stitches. He has sewn stitches all over his body and clothing; even his house is covered in stitches. His most notable piece of clothing is his doctor's lab coat. He is also surprisingly well built for a man his age, due to a large portion of his time being devoted to combat training.
"Dr. Stein." I said and nodded, signaling a hello.
He looked at me with a mischievous smile, "So this is the special new student. I'm only able to see the personality and wavelength of one's soul."
"Did I miss something here?" I said and felt threatened by his conning, but the Shinigami laughed and no surprise there.
"Oh yes! We haven't made a deal did we?" He said childishly.
“Urgh, Shingamis are unbelievable.”
I rolled my eyes. "Yes. We did make one. I come here to help out with this new situation you're having and I get the benefit of having all the souls I need to hunt and eat." I said in my steely voice.
"Oh yeah!" He said and I face-palmed, "But to legally fulfill your desires, you must become a DWMA student." He said.
I sighed and crossed my arms, "Fine." I said, the Shinigami handed me a list and a rule book immediately after my approval.
"We got rules here that requires uniforms. Shibunsen has a huge variety of uniforms, you know? We let you mix and match any top or bottom, even mixing your casual clothes. Just as long as you have the DWMA emblem on you." He chuckles, "Sorry, but I guess you'll have to do school again. Well, if you ever have...haha!" He laughed quite barbarically, but I rolled my eyes in response. What else could I say to a no-brainer Death God. "Oh, and there's one more thing- "
Maka’s POV—
"Soul! Come on!"
“Stupid guy! He's always slacking off and can't keep up! Urgh!!!!!!”
"We're going to be late!" I exclaimed.
He regarded me calmly and silent like always. Sometimes he can be like a dark shadow come to life. Reserved yet aloof.
We made it up the stairs and all the freshman students were scurrying up and around.
"Newbies." Soul said with a grin, I grinned with him too.
"It was only a year ago, we were freshmans too." I said, feeling nostalgic.
With the city rebuilt and in order, I guess things are a whole lot better now.
"Yahoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Look at me my future slaves! I'm going to surpass God cause I'm the one and only star...Black Star!!! MUWAHAHAHA!!!!"
A hard slap on my forehead was an effort to wake myself from believing that Black Star was up on the spikes, again.
"G-good morning Maka-chan." Tsubaki came up to me while scratching the back of her head, embarrassed about her master, "He's going at it again." She gasped when we heard a large crack.
"BLACK STAR!" Tsubaki, worried for him as always and ran towards him
"Falling off the spikes again. Nothing changed..." I said, Soul snickered and laughed a little.
"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!?!" Kid came into the scene and was pestering with Black Star.
"Come on Soul." I said, he wasn't behind me and was joining Black Star. "Soul?! Guys!!" I stomped on the ground with frustration, "Urgh!!!"
I was ready hit someone with my textbook, but I felt a finger tap on my shoulder and I quickly turned around, Crona looked very nervous and held onto his arm.
Author Note: *rolling eyes* YES. I'm going to make Crona a boy!
"Crona! Ready for your sophomore year?" He smiles and nods as usual, but because of this year's new rule of uniforms, he wore tight pants and the boy's collar shirt and jacket. "You look great!" I exclaimed and gave him a smile, he blushed and smiled back. I rubbed his head and patted his back, he can be really cute at times.
"Hey guys. What's everyone getting all wild about? They're murmuring to each other." Liz pointed out.
"Maybe about my awesomeness!!" Black Star started leaping.
"Maybe your stupidity." I muttered.
"Shut up!" He said and pouted.
"Have you guys heard! There's a hot chick that came around this morning!" We heard someone exclaim.
"A new girl?" Soul said.
"What?! Someone is taking my spotlight!!" Black Star said.
I thought for a minute and rubbed my chin, “A new student huh?”
--
"9:30 A.M.: Meister and Weapon". I wrote on my planner while sitting on my row of Dr. Stein's classroom.
"Hey Soul, I wonder if that new girl is in our class." I said putting down my pen, I turned and he wasn't listening. I sighed and took out my ultimate-weapon-of-waking-up-idiots. "Maka Chop!!!" I strategically slammed my large, green book onto his head. Leaving it sizzling.
"Ow!!!! That hurts!" He said, I stuck my tongue out to make fun of him.
"Did you hear me or what?" I said, he fell onto his palm and lazily leaned on the table.
"Yeah yeah. Who knows?" He was uninterested, and did a terrible job of acting like he was paying attention.
"Have you seen the Pink Angel yet?" Some kid said.
"No, but I heard she's a sophomore! So she might be in our class!"
Some girls and boys kept talking about the new girl and made me curious.
"I haven't heard the students gossip so much since Kid's arrival." Tsubaki whispers.
"WHY WONT ANYONE TALK ABOUT ME?!" Black Star exclaims.
"Cause no one wants to." We all said in unison.
The door opens and Dr. Stein comes into the room, no one ever talks while he comes in cause, well, he's a nut-job.
"Morning class." He said with boredom and swivels on his chair with his usual, slump posture. I looked around and I didn't see anyone out of particular. New kids obviously, but not the description everyone talked about.
"Stein Sensei?" I rose my hand but he flicked his hand up first.
"I know you guys are dying to know about the new sophomore student, as I heard she already has a nickname. But she's not in this class and I don't want to hear anything else about it in front of me. This is class, not a social gossip club."
I immediately placed my hand down and everyone murmurs, “That's weird, she's a sophomore but not in this class? Doesn't she have a partner?”
Soul Eater POV--
"Come on Soul, it's lunch now." Maka orders me again, and I nodded and lifted my head up off the table.
"Alright-alright." I placed each hand in my pockets and walked behind Maka. She walked happily across the hallway with Black Star, Tsubaki, Kid, Lizzy, Patty, and Crona.
She was, what I call....her "temporary" good mood. She was in her favorite place in the world: class.
"I'll meet you guys later." I said, moving myself to a different hallway.
"Where's he going?" I was still able to hear Black Star because of his projectile voice.
"To the music room." Maka said and their footsteps died down.
Maka and I can't afford a piano back at the apartment, or have enough room, but whatever. I sighed and scratched the back of my head.
Music room was written lazily on the black, foggy glass door and I stopped walking when I heard a violin coming out of the room. Yeah, a violin.
It was unusual for someone to be in there, the room was vacant and I was the only who had a key to it. But I heard a violinist without an accompanist, her tone was dark and light at the same time and was actually soothing into my ears. With strong chords and a lot of minors, it was intense music with a lot of intention.
I couldn't help but lean my back agianst the door, closing my eyes. My fingers couldn't help but tap rhythms on my lap and my mind imagined a perfect piano part for the piece. I had the urge to go inside and see who was playing, but I also didn't want the music to stop.
But what the heck, I'll go in quietly.
I opened the door slowly and peeked inside the room, the song perfectly finished and the last chord echoes. Huh, it was over. Might as well see who was playing.
"Hellooooo?" I called out. When the door was completely open, I jolted back with fear as something was thrown towards me, aimed just a few inches away from my skin.
"Shit!" I turned around and a violin bow was pierced against the wall. Like a arrow, it kept vibrating from the force.
"What the hell man?!" But there was no one in front of me, or in the room.
The lights weren't on and the room look untouched, it was like no one was here.

FeatheryJustice
So far, first impressions, holy cow the art is amazing.
Ash🦀
1. My favorite part about the beginning was the style. It immediately drew me in how everything was lovingly rendered in color that made me feel like I was seeing the world for the first time. It made me want to paint, too! 2. When we first see the man. Whoo buddy. Whoooooooo buddy. That was... a finely sculpted painting there. I could’ve framed him and hung him on my wall if the artist would let me. WHOOOO BUDDY. 3. My favorite character so far is Martel. I don’t write them often, but I love seeing kids in media, and I love the design of her hair. I know it’s a random thing to make me like her but I just... really like her hairstyle. She’s cute, and I’d guess she’ll be a breath of much-needed light air later in the story. 4. Mystery man and Martel are precious. 5. I point to answer 2 here. That lovingly sculpted chest? My heart was a-flutter I tell you what. 6. The art style is just... SO LOVINGLY RENDERED. The quiet moments of baking bread juxtaposed against a chaotic battle was SO. GOOD. Aaaaaah Could also be that that particular part is my favorite part of making bread so it was extra special aaaaaaah 7-8 I haven’t seen enough of the story to answer these yet! But the art is banging and I can’t wait to read more. Subscribed.
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
I've read this before and the art and story aren't really my thing. Since critique is allowed I could give art comments if CronaJ would find that kind of thing helpful? But even though I won't be following the story I was still impressed by how much care the author puts into it. Both from looking at their comic and from reading their comments on this discord and on the tap forum it's clear they've put a ton of effort into the art and story, and haven't cut any corner.s And all the panels are so rendered. I wonder how long it takes to draw a page?(edited)
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
Hey everyone! I'm the artist and writer of Whispers of the Past. I want to thank you all for your kind comments and observations so far. It really means a lot to me to hear what others think of this heartfelt project. I know that the story is in the beginning stages right now. But I'm looking to post the end of the first chapter this week, so hopefully a bit more will be revealed soon. Please feel free to ask me questions about anything, or (to answer @Eightfish (Puppeteer)'s question), to offer critiques for how I can improve what I'm doing.(edited)
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
@FeatheryJustice & @Ash🦀 I'm glad you enjoy the artwork. The painting process is probably what takes me the longest when it comes to pages. In response to @Eightfish (Puppeteer)... It takes me around 30-40 hours per page, and I try to post 2-3 page updates. Obviously, the amount of time spent per page varies depending on several factors, such as: the number of panels, the level of complication of poses, how many characters/background elements there are, and sometimes just whatever weird reason my brain isn't working that day ^^; So for my average 5-7 panel pages, they typically take longer than, say, a full-page spread. @Ash🦀 I'm so happy that the first few pages pulled you in! I spent a lot of time deciding on how I wanted to draw those panels, and what style to use, etc. I actually redrew the first 3 pages at least 5 times before settling on them as they are. And, you can hang and frame the image of our male MC if you want, haha, I actually don't have prints of it, but it is something to consider That particular panel was a one-page spread, so I was able to dedicate a bit more detail to it. Maret is a worthy favorite character. She is too pure and precious, and she just wants to make friends with everybody. Even when the "strange man" is kind of curt and unfriendly to her, she wants to befriend him. Also, I am SO unbelievably glad that you picked up on the juxtaposition in the bread-making scene! Ahhhh! I had a lot of fun with that one
FeatheryJustice
1. The Pacing, I love slow starts to comics because I get to absorb it and learn more. 2. Favourite Moment? Dude trying to climb out the window and failing. That was really funny XD 3. Mysterious dude from the water of course. He has pointed ears, you know something is up. 4. I like Maret and the mysterious man, it seems like a child being like 'this is new and I want to learn more' Also thank you for not writing a grating child character. They sometimes turn up too pure to be real, or too grating because they are too real. Maret at least has that nice balance of a healthy child will not acted spoiled but still want things because child like the scene where she was shoo'ed out of the room. 5. I think we talked about htis a long time ago, but I love the way you draw hands and feet! 6. Nothing so far, not sure where the story will head so I can't answer this. 7. I like the start of the mystery and the slow ramp up. We are just getting comfortable and I'm sure we are going to get rocky soon! 8. Art, from seeing Cronaj spend so much time on it, it's freaking amazing. I can almost feel the characters come to life.
Also on a side note, I want Maret to hear from the Conch shell (As a memey joke) "Under the sea, under the sea" XD
(Mysterious man has red hair, I wouldn't be surprised he turned out to be a mermaid XD Sorry I'm just on slight crack theory mode right now. He didn't sell his voice though)
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
When I was first writing and planning this comic, I was a little scared about how slow the start was, but I'm glad that it has been interesting despite the slow nature of the exposition.
2. Favourite Moment? Dude trying to climb out the window and failing. That was really funny XD
@FeatheryJustice Accurate! He's kind of an idiot, and he panics over nothing. For Maret... I actually based her character partially off of my two younger sisters, so that might be a lot of what contributes to her personality and realism. We did talk about hands and feet before! I love drawing hands, because they are so expressive and complex, but hate drawing feet because they are complicated. But I did study from life to draw Maret's feet, because I felt like I would mess it up otherwise ^^;
Hahahaha! I could definitely make an edit of that, tbh.
FeatheryJustice
That would be a funny joke panel if you ever want to do one. XD It's like replace the diaolgue memes XD
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
And I was partially making a mermaid joke when I had the reference to mermaids in the comic because he is a redhead
Definitely an idea....
I would title the episode "Whispers of the Crack"
FeatheryJustice
OMG YES I would love to see that XD
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
I have a WotP meme folder on my computer already
carcarchu
1. What did you like about the beginning of the comic? Mystery man pretty 2. What has been your favorite moment in the comic (so far)? i liked the part where maret was listening to the conch for mermaids, had a lovely magical charm to it 3. Who is your favorite character? mystery man 4. Which characters do like seeing interact the most? not too many interactions so far but maret and the mystery man were cute 5. What is something you like about the art? If you have a favorite illustration, please share it! the sunset scenery had a nice vibe
also i can see why people were saying it reminded them of ruroni kenshin, mystery guy especially with his hair up and on the cover image is reminiscent of kenshin but storywise doesn't remind me of it at all
carcarchu
I have some critiques that i'll cover in case you don't want to see them. SPOILER The anime-ish emotes (the blush and the anger vein) to me clash against the realistic artsyle and detracts from the moments, some more subtlety with them would be appreciated. And Maret doesn't really look like a child to me, her face is very mature so it makes her look older than she is. Moreover the 3 characters that have been introduced thus far have very similar facial features. For maret and agatha they are siblings so it makes sense but the mystery man is (presumably?) not related to them so i'm not sure if that's intentional. In any case more facial diversity would be appreciated going forward (if it's just your style that's fine too). And this is a really small nit-pick but the first panel of chapter 6 has horse hooves with the sfx thump thump thump. In my opinion this sfx should be clip clop clip clop END SPOILER
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
@carcarchu Thanks for the notes! I actually had a hard time deciding how to portray blush noticeably in a more realistic style, haha, but I can definitely see why it's jarring. Do you have any tips for how to depict blushing without anime emotes? I would just make it more reddish/pink, but it always looks weird to me (or too unnoticeable). As for Maret... She looks like a child to me? She's six, so she isn't quite a toddler, so I don't know if that changes your perception of her. She actually resembles my youngest sister a great deal, and my youngest sister was 5, almost six, when I designed her. (I just looked through the pages again, and there's maybe one panel that I think she looks slightly older in, so if anything, I'll try to fix that panel.) So yes, obviously Agatha and Maret look very similar, hahaha. They are biological sisters, so that makes sense. There will be at least two more characters introduced that are also related to them (and look fairly similar as well) and one character who will be mentioned who is also related and looks just like Agatha. Other than that, Izrekiel does look somewhat similar, I suppose, but it might also be partially that he canonically has a very feminine face as opposed to other male characters to be introduced later. It could be that and also a bit as a result of my style. I'm not sure. Ahhhh, sound effects! I also struggled with deciding what to do here. I wanted to do something different than "clip clop," mostly for a stupid personal hang-up. (I don't know why, but "clip clop" always looks so comical to me.) But if it helps translate the sound better, I might just have to bite the bullet and change it. Thanks for your feedback! Even if I don't agree with all of it, it does help me to take a closer look at what I've done with some different eyes. (edited)
carcarchu
That's fair! You don't have to accept anything just my thoughts (i hope nothing i said was too harsh) for me thump thump is a dull sound whereas clip clop or clippity clop is a sharper and harsher sound
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
yeah, I think you're right about that
thump is more like a heartbeat
or someone falling on carpet or something
carcarchu
and as for the blush question i think there are ways to depict a similar emotion without relying on the blush itself as a short hand like the softening of the eyes, the shape of the eyebrows, looking down and heck even body language can help with this. expression is more than what is shown on just the face
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
Thank you. I always feel like my characters look too stiff, like mannequins. ^^; I'm probably not going to completely redraw any old panels at this point, but I might make a few alterations to these panels to make it more consistent with later panels down the line.
carcarchu
i also noticed that a lot of your panels are the characters looking straight towards the "camera" and i would appreciate more varied angles and perspectives
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
Particularly with the first ten pages, that is certainly true
I got that note before, but I didn't redraw every panel, only some which looked particularly bad.
carcarchu
personally i never edit old chapters unless i 1. forgot to draw something important 2. there's a huge typo 3. it's missing a panel
any critique you can just keep in your heart and implement if you choose to do so moving forward
keii'ii (Heart of Keol)
2. I really liked "what if it's mama?" - a lot of hints condensed there: family history, how the topic of deaths/ disappearances are handled around children (either in that family specifically, or in that culture), and also a moment that shows a glimpse of Agatha's sisterly love instead of having the readers assume it.
snuffysam (Super Galaxy Knights)
Really loving the comic so far! Right now, I'm most interested to learn about this family situation. I'm guessing their mother is dead or missing, but what about their father? I suppose his clothes were still in the house so maybe he just went out? Or maybe they're both missing and it was just fairly recent?
Also, the paint-y style of this comic is just incredible

I'm so happy that you guys picked up on the clues about their mother. It alludes to some pretty plot heavy stuff that very few people have really commented on so far.
eli [a winged tale]
Oooh I’m so excited for your story Cronaj! Here are my answers~ 1) I love the beach scene! Maret with the shell is adorable and you established their relationship right away 2) Fav moment is probably the scene transition to our lad waking up with Agatha going about her day. It’s very peaceful and I’m a sucker for slice of life stuff. 3) Can’t pick just yet~ I like Agatha as a solid protagonist though. 4) More Agatha x mystery man please 5) I loooove the illustration aesthetics. Bold colours! 6) haven’t gotten to the core theme yet I’m sure but first impressions/meeting are always exciting. 7) I’m excited for what is to come. Can’t wait for the call to adventure. 8) Strength is definitely the art - beautiful and bold. Keep up the wonderful work!
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
@eli [a winged tale] Woah!!! You're the first person I've heard say that they like Agatha! She's mah girl! (And don't you worry, there will definitely be a lot more Agatha x Mystery Man ) Thanks for participating
eli [a winged tale]
she’s a solid sister!

1. What did you like about the beginning of the comic? I like how the intro had a nice balance between art and text. Usually if there’s a lot of text on the first page I can get deterred from heading a comic, but here I think it worked really well! And the loverly painting of the ocean sunset also reeled me in and fit really well with the poetic text! 2. What has been your favorite moment in the comic (so far)? ”He’s the prettiest man I’ve ever seen!” LOL (and she’s right too…) 3. Who is your favorite character? I like the kid! But I’m excited to learn more about the other characters as the story goes on! 4. Which characters do like seeing interact the most?
I liked Agatha and Mystery Man interacting, it felt very natural and I’m curious to see what comes of it. But the dialogue felt pretty strong which I gotta applaud 5. What is something you like about the art? If you have a favorite illustration, please share it! The beautiful shot of Mystery Man on the beach of course, lol! I love the way the hair is rendered, it really feels like it’s has weight and is spread out in the sand, if that makes sense? 6. What is a theme you like that the comic explores? It seems like it will explore a lot of interesting themes in the future, such as grief and finding where you belong, so again I’m interested to see what the story brings! I’m sure it’ll be good no matter what :D Overall I like what I’ve read so far! It’s not the type of art style I usually gravitate towards, but I can tell a lot of love is going into rendering and I think we’ll be seeing Crona’s art improve a lot as the story goes on, which is always exciting to see!
RebelVampire
What I like about the beginning of the comic, which also goes for what I like about the art in general, is the attention to detail in the background colors and lighting. I've never seen such a beautifully rendered (what I assume is) a sunset. It really makes everything have this great almost mystical atmosphere to it. In general, though, the art so far is definitely the comic's strength because you can see the sheer passion in every drop of it. My favorite moment so far is when Maret gives Izrekiel some flowers and then drags him off and he's just meekly protesting. It was both cute and comedic and the preciousness hurt my heart. This is also why this is my favorite pair of characters interacting so far. I think the age gap combined with the context of Izrekiel's situation is gonna lead to lots of awkwardness that I look forward to. As for fave character, though, I would have to go with Agatha right now. I don't know what it is about her, but everytime I see her I feel like I'm looking at an old soul. Like maybe someone who still has a lot to learn about the world, but is wise beyond her years in other regards. And it makes her a captivating character for me.
While I'm not sure if this will be an overall theme throughout, I like that the comic starts to deal with the theme of loss and hope. On one side you have Agatha who just kind of accepts loss and deals with it, and then you have Maret who just lives on in hope. And I kind of feel they represent two dynamic sides to the issue about whether its better to cling to hope or just move on and deal and how both can be harmful if not expressed in the correct way. As for overall story content, while we're not that deep in, I do like it starts with a multitude of mysteries cause mysteries are always great for making ppl want answers
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
Since Crona said they were good with art critique: The main thing I noticed when I first saw the art was that, though lovingly rendered, the characters' faces and bodies are kind of stiff. They don't really scrunch up their eyes and faces when they emote- it's mostly just the eyebrows (this was especially noticable when Maret was crying, or on the latest page, first panel, where Agatha's face doesn't really match her body language or words). And characters often don't seem to twist their bodies as much as they should. Oh- also the same camera angles of faces and bodies are repeated a lot. Front, 3/4, and profile. It'd be cool to see some shots with foreshortening from above or below the characters. Also the lighting is pretty diffuse- the characters seem to be shaded about the same way, and with the same colors, regardless of the lighting situation. I can still tell where the light is coming from, because there are those strong bright highlights in the direction of the light, but other than the bright highlights everything else seems to be shaded as if there was another light source coming from straight ahead. Also, sometimes characters seem to lose their shadows? Like on this page https://www.webtoons.com/en/challenge/whispers-of-the-past/ch-1-what-the-waves-left-behind-pt-3/viewer?title_no=191366&episode_no=4 where Agatha doesn't cast a shadow on the man, or this page https://www.webtoons.com/en/challenge/whispers-of-the-past/ch-1-what-the-waves-left-behind-pt-8/viewer?title_no=191366&episode_no=10 where they're running.
Those things being said though, I was still very impressed by the sheer amount of effort put into this comic. 100 hours/ update is absolutely insane. And you pay so much attention to the inanimate objects of this world. It makes the story feel grounded. About what someone else said: I agree that the cartoonish blush looks out of place. But I disagree about Maret- I think she does look like a child. 5. Favorite illustration? Definitely Agatha's hands when making dough. Not a critique but just a question: I was confused on the location of the story. Where is this?
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
Ooof. Finally got a chance to sit down and respond to all these comments. I keep rereading them over and over again, so thank you so much for sharing your thoughts everyone! I've noticed a few themes with what people have commented so far: Maret is most people's favorite character, the panel of Izrekiel on the beach is also very popular, and the theme of loss/grief is apparent to the readers (which I'm very happy about.)
@sagaholmgaard I'm glad that you mentioned the theme of "finding where you belong" too, because it is and will be a very prevalent theme in the comic. And reading your comment about how the dialogue seems natural made my day. I used to worry about how the dialogue came off constantly, and to hear that it's strong is so encouraging.
@RebelVampire As is expected, your comments are very thought-out. The interaction between Izrekiel and Maret after he falls from the window is one of my favorite moments so far as well. I'm happy that Izrekiel's behavior came off as meek in this scene, because that is one of the defining traits of his personality. I'm glad for another Agatha fan! She is such a fun (and difficult) character for me to portray. There are so many layers about her that even I am still discovering. She is definitely an old soul, and he experiences growing up have definitely matured her beyond her years. As I mentioned before, the theme of loss is definitely a major theme of the comic overall. And hope as well, since I think the two are very connected.
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
@Eightfish (Puppeteer) Thank you for offering your critiques! Character stiffness is definitely one of my major problems that I'm working at. I definitely see what you mean about Agatha's face in the latest update. Her eyebrows look painted on (pun not intended). I have been looking forward to having some more dynamic poses, especially foreshortening, but I do find it somewhat difficult when most of what the characters are doing so far are standing, sitting, talking, and maybe doing something with their hands. ^^; Hopefully, in the future, when more "action" happens, it will be easier to do this. As for bird's eye or worm's eye shots, I'm not gonna lie, I struggle with them so much. I had two bird's eye panels, and those took so much time, and I still don't know how I feel about them. If you have any tips for exercises, I would be so grateful. (Finding reference isn't always possible.) I also would love some tips/resources on how to get better at lighting. Again, lighting reference isn't always possible for specific panels, so it would help me a lot to learn how light works in general. OOOOOOF! I don't know how I missed the lack of shadow on Izrekiel in that panel. That was 100% a stupid oversight on my part. The scene with Agatha making dough had some of my personal favorite illustrations for a while. :) Also, your question about the location, I'm not entirely sure how to answer it?(edited)
It's a high fantasy story, so the location is entirely fictional.
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
The best I can answer that is to say that the story takes place in a country called Shai-Ryam, consisting of four major "districts" in a semi-tropical temperate peninsula called "The Aka Peninsula," named after the native people who originally lived there. As of right now, they are in a city called Gon Atam, a seaside village on the western shore of the Nuata District, near the Ocean of Saturuna. It is a city heavy in trade and with a long history, yet quaint and small due to a disaster several hundred years ago. It is only now being repopulated.

DISCUSSION PROMPTS – PART 2
9. Where do you think Izrekiel comes from, and what is his past history that seems to haunt him? Additionally, how do you think he wound up with amnesia and seemingly abandoned by the sea?
10. How will Izrekiel’s past history affect events of the story? In particular, how will revelations about his past affect his relationship with Agatha and other characters?
11. How do you think Agatha’s life will change from her encounter with Izrekiel? Will it somehow lead her to a more exciting life? If so, will it make her miss her simpler life with her family?
12. What are the biggest questions you have so far and are hoping to see answered over the course of the story? Also, what do you think will happen in the story in general?
Don’t feel inspired by the prompts? Feel free to discuss anything else that interested you!

9. Okay, so, here’s my theory. Just a guess. So Izrekiel is from a very war-friendly people up north who need land. Izzy just isn’t all about that life, but feels like he has no choice. Then he gets hurt fighting someone close to him (I’m putting money on brother or cousin who lives on the “wrong” side of things, hurt because he just couldn’t fight them at full strength. And then he realizes he can’t do it, while on the ship bound for new fight zones. His captain gets wind of it and is like “oh no I can’t let Mutiny Happen” so HeS all long ike “either fall in line or get off my ship” and Izzy is like “no I don’t wanna fight anymore heck you guys” and the captain proceeds to yeet him off the ship, leading him to the island, which, unbeknownst to him, is the next target. That’s my guess. Might be wildly off. He might be part mermaid. (Merman? Is mermaid gender neutral?) 10. Izzy or his bros probably killed one of Agatha’s family members, possibly the mom? Possibly violently? Which is why she never told babygirl what’s up. It’s probably going to be remembered in the buds of their relationship, hes going to try to hide it but it’ll come to light and she’s gonna be like “Izzy I hate you” and it’s going to make me cry. 11. She’s going to have a bread making partner in the end. They’re going to have adventures and go back to a domestic bread making existence, I speak it into being now /smacks table That may just be what I want to happen, though, as I very much enjoy bread making and wish others the same simple joy of giving dough a good smacking. 12. IS THE MOTHER REALLY A MERMAID OR WHAT Is Agatha a mermaid Are they like Selkies where they can come onto land a little Is babygirl a mermaid too(edited)
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
Omg... I love reading these theories. I won't say you're wrong or right, but this is a riot. I'm thoroughly enjoying this.

9. Pulls out my Crack Theory brain Okay, so Iz is actually not a very hot man, but actually a really hot princess, transformed into a man since she was exciled from her country but their rules are to give the exiled a new life so they shape shift them into something else. Iz got shifted into a man, and the lovely wide bare chest was because their top was lost to the ocean like how someone would lose their bathing suit top to the sea. Anyways, knowing nothing about themselves, Iz now lives their life as a man never remembering they were a princess in the first place. Ends Crack Theory 10. Don't know, can't say for now. 11. She could always politely kick him out later, so I can't say for now. XD 12. I want to know if there are monsters in this story or just like different species warring it out.
RT|NitghVision
^ I like this theory
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
@Cronaj (Whispers of the Past) Oh! I missed that it was high fantasy. I thought the story was historical fiction. No wonder mystery man has pointed ears. I was so confused- I kept thinking, oh, she looks Polynesian and lives by the ocean. But wait, her name is Agatha and she makes bread? And the houses look Japanese? What culture are her clothes from? The world being completely fictional explains all that. I think I was confused by the real names in a high fantasy story- you don't really see that a lot. Finding the right reference for lighting or pose is impossible for me. I have no tips. The only way I've found is to make my own references. I will sit in front of a window, or take a lamp into a dark room or something, and prop my phone up and take photos of myself in the poses and lighting direction I need. But hey, at least that way I don't have to worry about stealing someone else's work?
(i also like feathery's theory)
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
@FeatheryJustice Crack theories are best theories.
@Eightfish (Puppeteer) Oh! I had no idea you thought it was historical fiction No wonder you were confused! There's a lot of weird cultural-mixing shenanigans going on in the setting, and it's a bit confusing.
I should try that, for now the lighting has been primarily sunlight, or diffused sunlight (which I don't think I depicted correctly).
RebelVampire
Time to crack story theory. I don't know enough about the world to guess a name to where Izrekiel is from. However, wherever it's from, I get the impression its embroiled in a bloody war that is suffering heavy casualties. I imagine that Izrekiel mightve been in a battle and just wound up in the sea by circumstance - like maybe was taken as a prisoner of war and jumped overboard to escape. Something like that. As for the amnesia, well, Imma chock that up to PTSD cause the brief flashbacks we got don't look pleasant. However, I definitely think someone will come looking for him, and that these someone's will make trouble with the people he's just met - perhaps even forcing them to abandon their home with people in pursuit. And I'm sure as Izrekiel remembers more, others are going to really view him as potentially dangerous and blame him (but then get over it cause he's pretty O_O) Given that, I do think Agatha is gonna leave home because of Izrekiel's past running after them. I do think she's inevitably gonna miss the simpler life. Not to the point she won't rise to the challenge, but to the point that she's gonna be like "wait theres danger out here and i didnt even get a sword from an old man in a cave!" As for biggest questions, right now I'm just kind of hoping to see more of the world cause current world events really are gonna dictate a lot where the story could go.
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
Dude I was literally googling the names to see what country they were from because I thought they were from some obscure real island with a history of cultural mixing that I hadn't heard about before.
Cronaj (Whispers of the Past)
Hahaha! Yeah, Agatha is an English name. Maret and Kelan (a character that hasn't been introduced yet) are Irish names. Aalia (another character that isn't introduced yet) is an Arabic name. Kehhasan (another character) is a made-up name. Izrekiel is a made-up name inspired by the biblical names Israel and Ezekiel (although technically it is often spelled in their alphabet as "Isarikieru," which has a particular meaning and pronunciation in an even older—fictional—language). Ryukou (another character), is a real-ish name, based off of the Japanese names "Ryu" and "Kou," which mean "dragon" and "peace/light" respectively. Four other characters have fictional names: Ia, Tammamori, Soro, Ghita (although technically it's a Greek name, that wasn't my inspiration). And of course there are hundreds of side characters with a combination of weird names and name origins.

So! I don't really do so well with answering questions, but I do want to say it's inspiring to me to see just how much WORK is put into this comic. It's really lovely to see so clearly how much you care for it. Just want to give some general words of encouragement, keep it up!

I’m most looking forward to seeing more of Izzy how the story develops along with your painting. There are so many hints and peeks at the world, and I can’t really guess where it’s going. I feel like I already care for these characters, and I can’t wait to see their journey. I am also not good at encouragement, as generally I’m fueled by spite. But I just wanted to say, keep going! You got this! We believe in you!

I'm most looking to learning a bit more about the world structure I think. Since I think current events are really gonna hint at a lot what's going on. From what I can remember since it’s important. Crona is just a “clone: of dualscar. Though I altered the original stuff I had a bit. So that Crona despite having the same DNA structure (almost) had his genes heavily altered before hatching. Came out a lass, is trans. Considers Dualscar his dad because Dualscar had a personal hand in raising him before some life-changing events that has the fella MIA.
Crona USED to use the human term and call him dad but considered it embarrassing and stopped (he did it a lot during his humankin phase) Dualscar though thought it was cute and sweet and like a dad who isn’t happy their kid is growing up reminds Crona pretty often.
They have a close relationship but rn on the blog it’s only Crona.

Short Reflection: Soul Eater NOT
Have you ever been so confused by something that you’re almost rendered speechless by it? The kind of reaction where you’re so dumbfounded by a choice made, so utterly perplexed at the thought process that’s gone into a decision, that all you can do is raise your hands in surrender and mouth “Why?” over and over again in hopes that some all-seeing god will provide you an answer for the impossible puzzle you’re faced with? Because that was my reaction pretty much throughout the entirety of Soul Eater NOT, the prequel spin-off to Soul Eater. Every single choice that went into this side story baffles me so completely than in lieu of a more traditional review, I am forced to collect my thoughts in the form of an imagined dialogue between two Studio Bones executives as they come to the conclusions that birthed this mystifyingly wrong-headed experiment. Maybe I can make some sense of it that way. Probably not, though.
Executive A: Hey, so Soul Eater’s been out for like five years and it’s got a pretty good fanbase. What say we put out some sort of spinoff to keep the brand name strong?
Executive B: That sounds like a very good idea. So, what kind of spinoff? A sequel could be a good idea, you get to see the characters you love a bit more grown up and going on to new challenges.
A: No, a prequel makes far more sense. We get to explore the world more fully and talk about all those ancillary environmental details that were only in the background before. Like, we can explore the city more fully!
B: You sure? It feels like we’re missing a lot of opportunities that way, considering how well-formed the world and characters already were at the start of Soul Eater. Our audience already knows the layout well enough, we don’t need to get stuck in pedantic detail-mongering. Also, if it’s a prequel, we don’t get to use Crona, a.k.a. the best character in the show by far.
A: That’s okay, we’ll just make up some original characters and tell a completely new story with them! And the main cast can act as cameos so they don’t wear out their welcome.
B: I... feel like that could still work as a sequel, but okay. Prequel it is. So, who are our new characters?
A: Well, they’re a trio of cute girls. Tsumugi, the lead, says “Gagantous!” a lot. Meme forgets literally everything. Anya is a spoiled rich girl obsesses with commoner stuff.
B: Okay, what else?
A: That’s it. That’s the extent of their characters.
B: What? Why? They’re all so thinly sketched, defined by cheap gimmicks rather than goals and personalities people can get attached to. How is our audience supposed to care about them when there’s nothing to care about?
A: Because they’re in a lesbian love triangle.
B: ...really? So we’re going the yuri route?
A: Yeah, I was thinking it should be a yuri slice-of-life. Maybe get a little action-y and classic Soul Eater for the climax, but this should be its own thing. Also, we’ll see Jacqueline and Kim from the original show, and they’ll be gay for each other too.
B: Huh. Well, that’s definitely a risk. Our audience is used to the shonen action spectacle stuff, they might not like such a vast departure. But hey, if we pull it off well enough, might make for a nice change of pace! What kinds of cool things will out characters do?
A: Work at a cafe.
B: You’re shitting me.
A: Nope.
B: That’s, like, the laziest possible thing they could do.
A: But maid uniforms!
B: Who cares about maid uniforms? Soul Eater isn’t a fanservice vehicle. I mean, there was a little of it in the early parts, but we made a conscious effort to tone that stuff down to avoid alienating a broader audience, remember?
A: Listen, audiences want to be pandered to. So in this spin-off, not only will there be maid uniforms, there’ll be plenty of panty shots too! And the girls won’t be able to stop talking about each other’s boobs! That’s what everyone wants!
B: No, it isn’t! That spits in the face of the admirable restraint we showed making Soul Eater! Is that the only reason you want it to be yuri, so you can contrive excuses for the girls to get all touchy-feely with each other for dudes to drool over?
A: Yup! What, you thought we were actually gonna try to get some good, honest LGBT representation in there?
B: Kind of, yeah!
A: Well, you’re wrong. We want the dudes who think lesbian action is hot to enjoy this, but still imagine making it with them. That’s why we’ll make all the ecchi feel as contrived un-genuine as possible so they aren’t scared off thinking these girls might legitimately not be available to them. Also, we’ll half-heartedly pretend Tsugumi’s got a crush on a dude for a bit just for backup.
B: That feels so disrespectful in every conceivable sense. And stupid. You think people are gonna enjoy such half-hearted measures?
A: But wait! There’s more!
B: Oh god, what now?
A: We’ll also animate this entire show in the most boring, pedestrian way possible with shitty, generic backgrounds and plasticky, sub-Love Live faces. No crative cinematography or editing, just bland and vapid static shots over bland and vapid locations and dialogue.
B: Oh, FUCK that! No! That’s enough! That is the stupidest idea I ever heard! Soul Eater was such a great show because of how stylish it was! It had a unique and expressive aesthetic that was full personality and creativity! Every shot had something interesting happening! Every visual choice was carefully made to make every single moment stick out in your mind! It had some of the most consistently engaging, kinetic visual storytelling ever, even outside of the action scenes! Replacing all that with shitty, sub-basement moe aesthetics completely destroys the core appeal of the show we’re supposed to be honoring here!
A: But moe is very in now! That experimental, creative stuff is all passe. Everyone will love it!
B: No. No one will love it. Yuri fans will hate that it doesn’t commit to the yuri, slice of life fans will hate that there isn’t any creativity in the scenarios, Soul Eater fans will hate how different it feels from the show they’ve come to love, and casual anime watchers who stumble across it will hate how lazily put together it is. Soul Eater managed to appeal to pretty much everyone. The spin-off you’re describing appeals to NO ONE.
A: You sure? Because I already got funding approved for it and we’ve started production.
B: HOW?!?!?!
A: Hey, calm down. Tell you what, since you’ve got so many opinions on it, I’ll at least let you name it. That can be your contribution.
B: *long, beleaguered sigh* Okay, fine. I guess we’re doing this. But mark my words, this is going to be a massive flop that everyone should stay away from. And to make sure the audience knows what to expect, we’re gonna call it Soul Eater NOT, because they should NOT watch it.
A: Wow, that’s a little mean, don’t you think?
B: Trust me, they’ll thank us for warning them.
Yeah, that’s how I imagine it went down. It’s the only way I can make sense of how wrong-headed this entire production was. Soul Eater NOT fails as yuri, it fails as slice-of-life, it fails as a Soul Eater property, and it fails on its own merits by being lifeless, inert, and vapid every step of the way. Don’t bother watching it; it’s not worth it, even for the irony. And I give it a score of:
3/10
Yech. Now to watch Soul Eater episode 21 to wash the taste out of my mouth. Cheers!

List of muses
This is a cheat sheet of all the muses available on this blog, and it’s also a summary if you want to interact. My fandomless OCs have no verses besides the “standard” (and any verse is a variation of it), talk to me if you want to create one. Most of my main muses have their own separate pages, so if you want more details about them, click on their names.
Active muses
Marcos Grzbowski - OC, thinks he’s smart, Duning-Krüger hasn’t been nice to him, emotional guy disguised as a rational one, the “meta-guy” Rebecca Z. Mishko - OC, awkward girl, stutters, loyal like heck, rational girl disguised as an emotional one, could be a queen bee in an alternate timeline Talyna - OC, not an actual vampire, an alien that looks like a vampire, wants to go home Marya - OC, sassy fairy, travels a lot, dying is no big deal, a sun that never sets, secretively the worst tsundere ever Eagle - Ace Combat Zero/OC (gijinka of Pixy’s F-15), has a scary face, actually socially awkward, can fly and kill you in 13 different ways, tries to make friends Mara and Tojava - OC, they are as night and day, oil and water, two sides of the same coin, and yet are the same
