on twitter, a viral thread started where people around the world shared their translations of “If I must die”, the last work of Dr Refaat Alareer also known as "the voice of Gaza". A beloved poet, teacher and life-long activist for Palestine, he was recently assassinated along with members of his extended family by a targeted Israeli air strike. His loss leaves a hole in the heart of palestinians all over the world.
Below the cut, I’ll be posting the translations of his poem, with links to the original posts. Unfortunately, tumblr limits posts to a maximum of 30 images. I will update when I can.

The more I think about it the more unhinged it is that Peeta's arms were better than sleeping pills for Katniss

That other guy would fuck it up so that you made macaroons instead of macrons
They're approaching menacingly with a bag of shreaded coconut
now see that would be quite interesting, and definitely be making the most out of the use of time travel
also if someone goes that far, then they absolutely deserve the chance to ruin my macarons lol

Something about Dani and Jamie, Bill and Frank, love stories cultivated in the heart of horror. Something about finding queer love, gay love, human and fallible and worth cupping hands around and protecting even in the darkest of times. Something about stumbling into your person when you least expect them, when your mind is fixed firmly on pain and survival, and letting their light open you up. Something about choosing to wake up every day and cherish this person, even when it’s hard, even when they’re being broken down right before your eyes. Something about saying “I am marrying you, not in the eyes of others, but in our hearts where it matters—legality be damned”.
Something about gay love being worth all the strawberries, all the moonflowers, all the persistence and the endings chosen on your own terms. Something about that hits me where it counts.

I genuinely believe Naksu haunts the narrative. Her actions and existence as Naksu heavily impact the entire story. Her past, the life she lived and the shadow of it in Mudeok. But we don't actually know any of it because Naksu is not in the story.
Like. What she lost as Cho Yeong is something that we are never allowed to forget, the loss of her body, her powers, her freedom, and her impending death as a soul shifter hangs over Mudeok's head like guillotine.
All the while we don't actually know the Shadow Assassin Naksu, she died in the first episode, as soon as the story began. Other than training and killing (soul shifters) what kind of person was she when she didn't have to rely on another person else or hide or live as someone else? We don't know and we don't ever learn any of that.
Still, her absence is the plot, yet her former existence as Naksu influences everything; Yul's actions and what she was to him, Jang Uk's goal of returning her powers, the revelation of soul shifters to Park Jin, Jang Gang's departure, Jin Mu's accomplishments, the King's Star even.
Everything is about her existence but she doesn't actually exist at all anymore.

I like to think that had the Marauder not blown up, Omega would have inherited the ship and used that to fly in the Rebellion

A critique I've seen of Suzume that drives me a little insane is like, people saying that the big dramatic "main" story was less interesting than the moments of mundane life where Suzume is just spending time with the strangers she meets on her journey bcs listen, those moments ARE the main story!! Those slice-of-life bits?? Where she's helping Chika's family around their bathhouse or babysitting Rumi's kids or complaining about Serizawa's road trip music?? THAT'S WHAT THE MOVIE IS ABOUT!! It isn't really about the magic or time travel or gods and demons, it's about beautiful, average people and their beautiful, average lives.
Suzume is a love letter to humanity. And every second that Suzume and Souta spend just doing normal things with the normal people around them is JUST as important to the story as the big, dramatic scenes where they're fighting to save the world. It's not fluff or filler, it's the thesis statement of the whole film. They felt important because they were!!
