@tolkiengenweek day one | mentorship ● community | the lambengolmor
Though Fëanor after the days of his first youth took no more active part in linguistic lore and enquiry, he is credited by tradition with the foundation of a school of Lambengolmor or ‘Loremasters of Tongues' to carry on this work. This continued in existence among the Noldor, even through the rigours and disasters of the Flight from Aman and the Wars in Beleriand, and it survived indeed to return to Eressëa. Of the School the most eminent member after the founder was, or still is, Pengolodh, an Elf of mixed Sindarin and Ñoldorin ancestry, born in Nevrast, who lived in Gondolin from its foundation. He wrote both in Sindarin and in Quenya. He was one of the survivors of the destruction of Gondolin, from which he rescued a few ancient writings, and some of his own copies, compilations, and commentaries. It is due to this, and to his prodigious memory, that much of the knowledge of the Elder Days was preserved.
—The History of Middle-earth: Volume XI: The War of the Jewels, “Quendi and Eldar”
Notes:
“Loremasters of tongues” and “linguistic loremasters” are two canonical translations of the word Lambengolmor
Fëanor, Rúmil, and Pengolodh are the only characters who are canonically part of the Lambengolmor
Rúmil’s epessë Saratitamo is my headcanon; it translates literally to “maker of the Sarati”
We don’t know for certain that Rúmil taught Fëanor, but it is likely considering Fëanor’s expansion of his work (adapting the Sarati to the Tengwar)
Fëanor obviously did many other things besides founding the Lambengolmor and creating the Tengwar, but those are his two achievements related to this topic
Quennar i Onótimo was a loremaster of Aman and possibly of Beleriand; he wrote mostly about timekeeping (thus his epessë i Onótimo, meaning “the Reckoner”); though he is not specified to be among the Lambengolmor, his first name means “elf-speaker” and he canonically devised the word menel, “heavens/firmament,” which in my mind makes him an excellent candidate for a linguistic loremaster
The Quettúri (“word-masters”) were a concept related to the Lambengolmor; we don’t know Quennar was associated with them, but I wanted to include them in this edit so I used him as a link between the two organizations; in coining new words, the Quettúri specifically exercised lámatyávë (“sound-taste”), the practice of taking pleasure in the sounds and forms of words (phonaesthesia)
Penlod’s place among the Lambengolmor of Gondolin is my headcanon; I put them as the leader of the House of the Pillar (later taking on the House of the Tower of Snow as well) and the chief loremaster of Gondolin
I adapt the Cottage of Lost Play into a school of learning and lore, and so I have given the characters who appear as storytellers in The Book of Lost Tales the role of loremasters, thus making them part of the Lambengolmor
Evromord was a proto-Rúmil character, and Gilfanon lived in the House of a Hundred Chimneys; I also headcanon they are survivors of Gondolin’s fall who sailed to Tol Eressëa after the First Age; Evromord’s headcanoned epessë Fennatir is neo-Quenya for “door-watcher,” a nod to his role in BoLT as the door-ward of the Cottage
Lindo and Vairilmë are the keepers of the Cottage of Lost Play in BoLT (Vairilmë’s name there is actually Vairë, but I tweaked it to distinguish her from the Valië); they are a married couple
Ilverion Littleheart is the son of Voronwë (though I headcanon Voronwë adopted him), and is another storyteller at the Cottage in BoLT
Meril-i-Turinqi is the Queen of Tol Eressëa in BoLT, and since she also tells stories I have made her a loremaster as well, though she acts primarily as a patron of the Cottage and does not dwell there herself
Quendingoldo is the Quenya name for Pengolodh
For more on my headcanons about these characters, check out these posts in my Peoples of Arda edit series: Lambengolmor, Cottage of Lost Play, House of the Pillar

🎨Miniature painting: Elven captain (who I called Ailios and made Elrond's herald) (Games Workshop LOTR strategic battle game) ⚔️ . If I recall correctly (it's been a while xD), I won a place in a painting competition for this one in the early 2010s 😁 I haven't managed to capture the details as much as I wanted to in these pics, but I really enjoyed decorating the bow with an intricate pattern of leaves and flowers 😁 ✨ For Ailios, I also chose a white-cream-green pattern that is not usually seen in the official painted miniatures, and I really like it 👍 I also loved painting the hair ✨

All my photo projects are somehow connected with nature, with long walks and studying the environment. I think that without a clear understanding of nature’s role in our lives, we to some extent deprive ourselves of support.
My project The Neva: A River for People, People for the Riveris an attempt to find…

The Nauglafring
Ailios starts his tale:
„Remember ye all how Urin the Steadfast cast the gold of Glorund before the feet of Tinwelint, and after would not touch it again, but went in sorrow back to Hisilome, and there died?(…) Behold then, (…), in great grief gazed the king upon Urin as he left the hall, and he was weary for the evil of Melko that thus deceived all hearts; yet tells the tale that so potent were the spells that Mim the fatherless had woven about the hoard that, even as it lay upon the floor of the king’s halls shining strangely in the light of the torches that burnt there, already were all who looked upon it touched by its subtle evil.”
#FirstCaseOfTheDragonSickness
And then follows the sad story of greed, betrayals and slaughter, and the end of Artanor... But I'm sorry, Tinwelint, you brought it upon yourself:
The necklace Nauglafring was made from the gold hoarded by the dragon Glorund.
1) It was said that the evil of the dragon somehow had gotten transferred to the gold and it was better not to touch it AT ALL, never mind making new jewellery items out of it...
2) this gold was also cursed by its designated guardian - Mim the dwarf!
3) the dwarves who made the necklace, made it with bitterness in their hearts as they were earlier tricked by Tinwelint... yeah... #ItAllAddsUp
4) it had a Silmarill inserted. You know, the one that spent some time in Melko’s crown. Also the one that the Sons of Feanor would kill for.
This necklace was cursed AF!!!
And the sons of Feanor actually did make an appearance! Obviously they wanted "their" Silmaril back, with or without the Nauglafring, depending on how Dior wanted to handle things.
Dior didn’t want to handle things at all.
Which led to yet another kinslaying, but in this version Maglor, Celegorm and Caranthir die in the process.
Also, apparently the battle for the Silmaril happened on the same day when Melko attacked Gondolin.

question:)
Anybody remember a show called Apple And Milky? I can't remember what channel it aired on, but it might have been CBBC? No.Nickelodeon (British kids cartoons were scary at the best at times, but this is insane). The show was about the titular two girls going portal hopping and ending up in horrifying places (I remember one where they got tied to chairs and had to watch their loved ones get tortured and eventually shredded, even if it was fake). What really scared me is the finale, Ailio's kingdom. They nearly got home, and Milky shoved Apple into the episode namer portal's sacrifice pit. That paired with her laughing manically before cannonballing into it herself, me and my older brother couldn't sleep for days afterwards. It dissapeared from all archives, streaming platforms and all merchandise was pulled from the shelves. It was like it never existed.
I'm probably just going crazy.

elves of arda ◆ misc. noldor ◆ headcanon disclaimer
Quennar and Rúmil were elves of the Tatyar who awoke upon the shores of Cuiviénen. They befriended one another upon the Great Journey, and once they settled in Tirion they fell in love and married in a private ceremony, never ones for inviting the outside world into their lives. Yet they both became renowned scholars whose works were highly influential upon all the Eldar, and soon became esteemed teachers among the Lambengolmor, the society of loremasters. Among their many students were Pendelótë, Ailios, and Avamordo, each of whom earned distinction of their own in after years.           Rúmil was particularly interested in linguistics, and strove to create a visual representation of speech. It was he who created the first elvish alphabet, known as the Sarati, for which he earned the name Saratitamo. When the Teleri at last arrived in Valinórë, Rúmil was the first to note the divergence in their language from what was spoken among the Noldor, and set about to studying the different evolutions of Common Eldarin into Vanyarin Quendya, Noldorin Quenya, and Telerin.           The great works of Rúmil were many, for his interests were broad. He recorded the Ainulindalë, the story of the Music of the Ainur learned from the Valar themselves; the Lambessë, a study of the development of spoken language; the Ambarkanta, a treatise on the shaping of Arda; and the Annals of Aman, the history of the Eldar in Valinórë co-written with his husband Quennar. His wisdom was also recorded by his students and compiled into the collection i Equessi Rúmilo, “the Sayings of Rúmil.”           Rúmil always shied away from the attention of the academic community, and was glad when Prince Fëanáro took his place as the most interesting scholar in Tirion. He did not begrudge Fëanáro’s advancements and improvements of the Sarati into the Tengwar, and indeed was honored to advise Fëanáro in his many writings.           The work of Quennar was more focused upon timekeeping and measurement, earning the epessë i Onótimo, “the Reckoner,” though he dabbled in linguistics and indeed had been the one to coin the word menel, “heavens,” at Cuiviénen. He collaborated with his husband on the Annals of Aman, but his greatest work was a labor of many years, and would not be completed before the Darkening of Valinórë.           Amid this tragedy and chaos, both Rúmil and Quennar were compelled to follow the Princes of the Noldor into exile, but after the Doom of Mandos was proclaimed, Rúmil was overcome with grief and horror and turned back with Arafinwë. Yet Quennar did not, pressing onward with Ñolofinwë, and the parting between him and Rúmil was one of great sorrow. In Beleriand, Quennar was awed by the rising of the Moon and Sun and reinvigorated to complete his master-work, the Yénonótië or “Reckoning of Years,” a comprehensive analysis of chronology from the early days of the Valar in Arda and through the current Years of the Sun.           But once his work was published, Quennar found himself deeply unhappy and missing both the land of Aman and the husband he had left behind. He followed his former student Penlod to Gondolin, and hid away quietly among the House of the Pillar. Only a handful of people knew he lived in Gondolin, but two of his most faithful students cared for him in his grief and solitude: Ailios, a peer from Cuiviénen who had taken the name Gilfanon, and his dear friend Avamordo, who was now known as Evromord.           Gilfanon and Evromord had learned from Quennar and Rúmil in Aman, and now as full-fledged loremasters themselves they were responsible for the preservation of ancient writings, with students of their own—most notably young Pengolodh, who would go on to revise and continue much of Rúmil and Quennar’s work in later Ages. Evromord and Gilfanon ensured Quennar’s survival amid the Fall of Gondolin and the War of Wrath, protecting him through many dangers, and sailed with him back to Aman at the end of the First Age.           Rúmil had left Tirion for Tol Eressëa, looking west for Quennar’s return, and their reunion was great and glad. Quennar woke from his stupor and became active and joyful once more, and together he and his husband dwelt on Tol Eressëa for many Ages, founding the Cottage of Lost Play. Evromord and Gilfanon remained close by, and when they at last were wed to one another it was Quennar who officiated their marriage. By the end of the Third Age, Rúmil and Quennar returned to the mainland, passing down their responsibilities to Evromord and Gilfanon, and they settled in a small home outside of Tirion, where they yet dwell in peace.

sapphosrevenge (discord rp)
Ailios originated from Scotland where she spent her childhood traveling with her father, who was a bounty hunter. It was from him that she adopted the tracking and fighting skills she employed.
Ailios was a professional bounty hunter despite her slender frame, she was also deceptively strong, as she was able to effortlessly defeat a muscular man in an arm-wrestling match. Additionally, Ailios proved to be a formidable fighter with a rapier as her weapon of choice, as she demonstrated amazing speed, hand-to-hand combat skills, and evasiveness.
She enjoys drinking, gambling like any other men she sees in the tavern. After hearing many tales and stories about pirates and what they encountered during their travels, Ailios found herself attracted to sailors and the lifestyle they lead.
Personality In Ailios's profession, she had to mix with a variety of people from unsavory to low life as well as regular characters. Her determination, resolve and superior physical strength enabled her to get the job done in the toughest of assignments.
A fearless and non-fragile woman who was rarely misunderstood, Ailios was also confident and decisive, though occasionally sassy. While she was often dark and uncaring, once she is employed she remains loyal to the empolyer and cannot be swayed by any amount of money proving that loyalty to her pocket was not the only consideration.
Weapon of choice: - rapier - Volley gun

That's adorable as heck dude. I hope that turns out okay. Idk how I'd be playing with my crush. Clerics are cool bc they make sure all the fighters Don't Die, but they're usually also kitted out with offense spells and most have a decent weapon and armor. (As a hill dwarf, Ailios has a bonus to Wisdom and can wear heavy armor, which means her spells work a little more and she doesn't get hurt often.) I play with 6 people, which I think is a bit too much for my DM, but we have fun.
shdshsd it won’t turn out at all bc of. other circumstances between us but thank you
also oh, they’re the heal ones? that’s so cool xhcfhfdhf. and we have 4 players! apparently 3 is Optimum but i got myself in there, rip.
