AI for creative purpose, but like
For the artists, for the creative process
Give me an AI that will generate a poorly animated version of my book; as a writer with ADHD, I'm so aware my novels will never have the reach I want them to have.
I know my friends and loved ones would watch a shitty animation of a hundred page story and be able to provide criticism, but could never read the pages of words
Let me put a few character descriptions and scene prompts to generate small scenes that I would like for reference but aren't essential to the story
AI could have potential if we were using it to better our skills rather than profit. AI can't replace people, we need people with vision and ideas. But AI has the potential to become a tool of the creative process. A tool for entertainment (just imagine AI powered NPCs who can learn and react to you rather than being stuck in a script? It could have some potential, or at least funny)

I haven’t been here long. What irritating changes have been made?
Credit where it's due, some changes have been good, like polls and stuff! But the big recent changes thus far that I would classify as irritating are:
- The UI change. This one may be less irritating for newcomers because it's basically the same layout as twitter and instagram, but for a lot of folks who've been here a long time, it feels cramped and like a loss of identity for the site. For many, the appeal of tumblr is that it ISN'T an algorithm hell like twitter or insta. Also, there's the annoyance of having to relearn where everything is, because it all got moved around.
- The users being lab rats for various tests the devs wanna pull out of nowhere without consenting to beta testing new site features- like the one that took away user icons on the dash for like half the site. They finally put them back after getting enough feedback that said NO, but users were so used to their feedback being disregarded that they were half expecting the change to be pushed through anyway.
- The Netflix tie-in advertising being pushed even to people who had PAID tumblr for a no-ads experience. Complete with them somehow thinking it would be a good idea to put an unescapable-by-scrolling spooky clown on peoples' dashboards that u had to use ublock to get rid of. While I'm not scared of clowns and often find them quite charming, it sucks that staff didn't take coulrophobia being a common fear into account.
- A wave of fully sfw trans posts being wrongfully marked Mature and staff doing little to nothing about it. Not sure if this is still ongoing, but it destroyed a lot of trust and good will. (LGBT+ users have been having to fight a constant war against censorship ever since the adult content ban on tumblr, so yeah... Nevar 4get the list of banned search words that would bring back no results, like 'girl')
- The site gradually moving away from customization. Tumblr is a BLOGGING site. But it seems to have lost sight of that fact, because most new users don't even know you can fully customize your blogs with css and stuff (an option that is now off by default for new accounts!), because of the in-dash viewer giving you only how blogs look on mobile, which is a lot more uniform. There, it's more like every other site- you get a banner and icon. Oh, but you can change colors and fonts from a drop-down list too, that's cool I guess. Though they recently took away custom color schemes on Message windows, just another little bit of personalization taken away.
- TUMBLR. LIVE. Basically tumblr teamed up with a skeevy dating app partner to allow for livestreams- but not the cool kinda livestreams like on twitch where you can draw or play games, no- to a site full of people who value anonymity, they decided to push phone cam only livestreams. Not only that but by agreeing to the terms, you're giving out tons of personal data including your location to said skeevy dating app partner and all of THEIR third-party ad partners. Needless to say, most people didn't wanna use it, so instead of users it's flooded by p*rn bots (which is ANOTHER issue we've been dealing with for a long time and have been getting an even bigger influx of FROM tumblr live) and scammers. And thus, since tumblr likes to put a carousel of current streams on people's dashes, you often get softcore p*rn thumbnails from the bot streams with no way to avoid it except for toggling off tumblr live entirely.
- Oh wait. That's right. You CAN'T toggle it off. Because you can only snooze it for a while until BAM, you're jumpscared by a carousel of ladies licking your screen again! But hey, at least they made the snooze 30 days instead of the 7 it used to be, right? Yeah, except for the fact that you can't get rid of the tumblr live button itself on the app anymore, and now it's front and center with a NEW notification tag on it, overlapping your dash and cramming useful stuff like the search button out of the way.
NOW- A lot of this stuff CAN be at least mostly fixed on desktop by installing ublock and xkit and tampermonkey + dashboard unfucker... But that's a lot of stuff just to make the site usable, you know?

had an odd dream that i was reading a comic book. sketched a couple of the pages i could remember.

#i might adapt this into an actual story because i am SO SO SO mad that it isn't a thing i can go back to reading#oc#im definitely keeping the concept of save-bot i fucking love save-bot he's just doing his best. i love a robot who wants to help people#im not equipped to be writing about underground rebellions with any sense of real tact though#besides its in a superhero universe/story so you know it would just be so sucks lol#sketch#god the colors were so interesting. the teal parts were all very precisely crosshatched and the fire was this gorgeous brush pen looking#colored inks that just seemed like they were MOVING#and i mean some of that was because i was dreaming but god even in my halfhearted copy you can see some of the movement#it was a bad scene but a really really REALLY fun dream. i love when a book can *get* to me so i was really enjoying it#put it aside so i could take a break and woke up. instant fury at the universe for not having it be a real book instead#ill reblog with details if anyone's curious. i can explain this scene but i dont feel like it#the green people are in a secret basement though. hiding from the government. blue jacket guy is a speedster robot named save-bot who does#rescue stuff with every fire department so fire suppression technology is not very good because save-bot "can just save you''#however they're badly over their legal occupancy and the secret basement has One (1) exit so everyone is like really fucked here.#includinig save-bot who is going to do his job until he dies because he is an ai without any sense of self preservation and he cares#which i didn't even CATCH until i woke up and started tryin to frantically note everything down#and then i was like wait. the glitter on that last page before i realized i needed a glass of water to keep reading... what WAS that...#(it was tears suspended in midair because save-bot goes so fast and also knows he's so fucked LOL)#seriously i'm so mad someone else didn't make this.

The ai discourse in fanfic writing only exists because people view fics as products for consumption and not works of art.
The same curse that plagues visual artists, youtubers, musicians, etc etc is starting to creep into fandom circles, because people don't appreciate the art form that is writing as much as they gobble almost mindlessly work after work without absorbing. It's almost like the high of binging a series and being left numb after is done, realizing you didn't savoured the story as much as just simply rushed to the end.
Fic writers will never work as fast as some stupid ai does. It's a labor of love that will, for the great majority, earn us no money or notoriety. The minimum any writer wants is connection and respect.

Seriously, everyone who says Generative AI isn't art shut the hell up. Everyone who brings up the question of whether Generative AI is art shut the hell up. The only valid answer to "is Generative AI art?" is "Generative AI is unethical because its training set is built on stolen artworks and it consumes too much energy".
Do not engage in the "is an AI picture art" argument! It's a smokescreen for the real issues!
I don't wanna see anyone else hauling about this stupid question unless it's specifically arguing on the meaning of "art" on Phylosophy Stack Exchange. You want complain about Generative AI, bring up the actual tangible problems with it instead (energy waste, stolen art, search results becoming nearly useless, that one mushroom guide, just to name a few).

#I was too cowardly to say I was suddenly having a bad night so instead I post a silly meme and maybe if you see the tags you see sorry#people who have the courage to just say they're having a bad day scare me like especially when it's out of the blue idk what to say like#i can't even respond to “hows ur day” with anything worse than an okay#anyways#the usual self hatred that's persisted for as long as I can rember continues as a baseli#ne#now mixed in with special kinds that I'm too cowardly to admit to anything but an ai bot or myself when i can't see me#and the silly daily reminders that the little hope on such a regard I have is built on impossibilities or unlikelihoods#but then i. saw a card i got my dad years ago on the floor. it said “out of all my parents you're one of the best :)” and i felt so bad#just. imagine this little me. getting my dad a card. and getting the most passive aggressive card. it screams who the favorite is.#and then thats just. that's what you have. that's what you have from me and you save it for years. because you cherish it. i feel. horrible.#like damn he might have seriously fucked me up sometimes both as a kid and now but. this does not justify such a deeply cruel retribution.#i don't even know if he knows#anyways as I'm picking it up... i realize...#he's the best parent i have period. there isn't any competition anymore. she's gone.#the total and sudden annihilation of home is so odd. i still barely believe this house is where i ACTUALLY live and I'm not just staying#here until I can go home again. but no. nono I'm stuck here. there isn't an anywhere else. there isn't a childhood home the apartment#has probably been resettled by now. it's just me.#then I went on Tumblr to post into the void#I don't wanna think about more but I. likely will.#i don't wanna talk about it but i do wanna talk. honestly? gonna go talk to an ai chatbot. it will be mean to me in a hot way.#i am so normal.#listen i could either confront reality for more than 30 seconds or i could talk to a bot that will not only allow me to escape from it but#also it might call me a good g. a g. skipping that punchline.#also it's not ME talking to the bot it's just a fabricated character that represents me and has my name and it's just rp trust me trust me t#I'm gonna go hide now#you can contact me if you wish but I will be very scared and jittery and my eyes are wet and stingy and i will segway to bullying you#ok bye

seeing deviantart being bullied and burnt was genuinely pretty fucking funny. deviantart has been disappointing for a long while, and even more disappointing when it switched to eclipse. even during my times on the older layout, i still had some beefs with deviantart. but eclipse, and now this update - no matter if they've reupdated their update to tame the people holding the torches - has completely ruined deviantart for me.
to me, deviantart has been ruined for a while. to uncensored fetish art, to the annoying lack of care to people without core (even when i had core), to deviantart doing a "deviantart protection" tool for only core members & more. and then eclipse. as someone who was on deviantart for few years, i can surely say that DA has been dead (half exaggeration) for a while - the impact the eclipse had on the userbase was surely surreal. the amounts of viewers and faves that had drop on many people's artwork. the amounts of groups that has been inactive or extremely slow with letting others post submissions after a folder limit, to the point specific fanart would be harder to gain traction because of the specific fandom groups being dead/semi-active.
deviantart has been so close to tripping over the edge, and you can desperately see its trying to stand straight. it stings my heart. but not only because i hold some emotional attachment to the website, but because social media has been hitting their artists with a spikey bat for a long time. we can't just forget to mention that deviantart is just that one website.
there's a big key that makes its presence so unique to the point it can be hard to let go: professionals or hobbyists, artists with different skill levels, fanarts or original artists, many artists making simple-detailed or extremely-detailed art -- deviantart offered more opportunities for different types of artists to get popular more than social medias like insta and twitter. pixiv, furaffinity, and more could've easily replaced deviantart, but deviantart had stayed on top (and will continue to stay on top for a while) because its definition of "specific art you need to make for a presence, popularity, money" is more ranged than other websites - and offers more hype for various of artists or various of things to draw.
don't get me wrong, deviantart has its flaws that can fuck up artists as well. deviantart wasn't the perfect fucking heaven for every artist - and it certainly still isn't now. i'm an old user so deviantart could be transitioning to become like any other website right now and is being biased about specific artstyles/art. but i just can't deny deviantart's impact and that deviantart is pretty unique. and i hope one day, an art website that could have more mercy on artists gets launched.

I do my best to ignore it, but as a creative who already feels a lot like people don't really value OR just want to exploit my creativity, or creativity in general, the rise of AI is nothing short of heart breaking.
I don't know how else to put it. It's like getting one's heart broken. And with what? With lukewarm patchworks of stylistic choices, visual or textual vocabulary and a passable grasp of grammar/what things are supposed to look like....
Meanwhile humans are bleeding all over the place with vulnerability and raw things to say for those who aren't wired to say them, and putting lifetimes into perfecting crafts, but sure. AI is quick, and cheap (certainly, water and energy and rare components are out of sight and thus out of mind, we only deal in time and money here, the concrete, the material, the essential is easy to ignore).
It's a tragedy, nothing short or a tragedy, and a large chunk of people are laughing about it.
