Below the cut I have made a list of each English and British monarch, the age of their mothers at their births, and which number pregnancy they were the result of. Particularly before the early modern era, the perception of Queens and childbearing is quite skewed, which prompted me to make this list. I started with William I as the Anglo-Saxon kings didn’t have enough information for this list.

A full character analysis on OBERYN MARTELL from the TV show GAME OF THRONES.

Oberyn is from Dorne. Dorne is one of the nine constituent regions of the Seven Kingdoms. It is the southernmost part of the continent of Westeros, located thousands of miles from Winterfell and the North, and has a harsh desert climate. Sunspear, also known as the Old Palace, is the seat of House Nymeros Martell and the capital of the Principality of Dorne. According to author George R.R. Martin, Dorne is loosely inspired by Spain, particularly the south's Moorish heritage, which culturally sets it apart from the rest of the country and of Western Europe. Oberyn speaks with an accent reminiscent of his heritage from Dorne, of which Pedro mentioned he used his own father's Chilean accent as inspiration.

Oberyn is seeking vengeance for the murder of his sister Elia against her murderer, The Mountain, Ser Gregor Clegane. He also named his fifth daughter after his sister.

Oberyn has eight illegitimate bastard daughters (born outside of marriage), collectively known as the "Sand Snakes". Four of which he had with his current partner, his paramour, Ellaria Sand.

Whilst in love, Oberyn and Ellaria are not married as Ellaria herself is a bastard (born outside of marriage). Although Oberyn is allowed to be with her, marrying her would not be allowed as in Dorne as a Prince cannot marry a bastard.

As soon as Oberyn arrives in Kings Landing, arriving in the dawn to avoid a greeting party, he immediately goes to the brothel to indulge with Ellaria.

Oberyn's overall attitude was that life is short, and one must enjoy all of life's pleasures while one can. He would rather live life on his own terms, openly challenging his enemies and risk destruction rather than live by someone else's rules. Rather ironically, it was Oberyn's zest for life, his temper, overconfidence, love for his sister, and hatred towards Ser Gregor Clegane that ultimately led to his death.

Despite Oberyn dying at the hands of The Mountain, he was still able to extract revenge from beyond the grave. While The Mountain is being treated for his injuries, it is discovered that before the duel Oberyn had his spear blade coated with Manticore venom, which causes The Mountain's already severe wounds from the fight to putrefy horribly, leaving him in a catatonic, decaying, and agonized state.

Pedro learned Wushu to fight with a spear in the fight scene against The Mountain to enable Oberyn to move with speed and grace.

Accessories: Oberyn wears a brass/bronze pendant with floral detailing on the plate. He wears a gold band ring on each thumb. His belts also act as sheaths for his dagger and sword.

Weapons Used:

Oberyn has a dagger he wears on his right hip in a sheath on his belt. The dagger has a dark handle, possibly onyx, with red jewelled detailing blended into the handle.

Oberyn's spear is entwined with a golden snake and the shape of the blade is said to be modelled to represent a snake's tongue. He laced the spear head with poison. The tassels are made from snakeskin.

Oberyn's sword has a snake head handle and has the same black and red jewelled detailing as his dagger. Oberyn is not seen using his sword at all, instead favouring to use another spear when his first one is broken by The Mountain.

Oberyn is not seen using any forms of transport, however as a Prince he would have his own horse. Tyrion sets out to greet the cavalcade of horses, however Oberyn, in place of his brother Doran, had already arrived in the early dawn in secret. According to the book version of Oberyn, his horse is a Sand Steed, "a stallion black as sin with a mane and tail the colour of fire" when arriving in King's Landing.

Do you think there's a chance a streaming service will pick ncis:h? I've signed the petition but do we dare to hope? I'm tired of this happening all the time. I just dont understand. It was doing fine in ratings and it's a part of a franchise that keeps getting more spin offs? How that makes sense? Do you know the ratings compared with the others ncis shows? Sorry im asking you but im not from usa and i have no idea how american netwoks work. So sad rn.

okay SO i am also not from the us but have done this dance before sooooo:

1) from what i’ve heard, they were planning to move either another ncis show (i think sydney?) or another cbs show to paramount plus - which they now are no longer doing. in theory yes, this opens up the possibility for ncishi to move over there; in practice, i’m not holding my breath, as typically that negotiation would happen before a cancellation announcement

2) how does it make sense? the honest answer is that it doesn’t. like, it really doesn’t. it’s been holding steady at sixth of 14 cbs shows in the ratings (which is a brilliant number, ensures it’s profitable, and is also impressive for a procedural that’s still relatively new). it’s been beating a LOT of other crime procedurals in viewership and viewer retention, and reviewers have been singing its praises. i think this is why it feels so much as if it’s because they just view this show as less valuable (socially and economically) than their usual white guy cop shows; it’s very difficult to argue that your profitable, successful show is too expensive when you’re flying cast and crews across - or, potentially, internationally to - australia, to continue a less-highly-rated show with no issue.

3) as far as ratings go - ncis hawai’i episodes were pulling in as many as 10 million viewers last year (s2 e10 came in with 10.5 mil, as per variety telecast viewership reports) which has it going toe to toe with the core ncis (seems to pull approx. 8-10mil per episode, via hollywood reporter). for the 18-49 demographic across us series, ncis hawaii is ranking at #13 of #21 as per tvseriesfinale.com - this is significantly above ncis sydney (renewed, #15), and elsbeth (#19, renewed), two other cbs shows, one of which in particular is incredibly expensive. crucially, ncishi has actually increased its viewership, which is VERY difficult to do on a year to year basis. its up by 4.18% among 18 to 49 year olds - for comparison the core NCIS is down 0.83% and fbi international - a competing show - is down by 3.73%. bear in mind that even a single percentage point represents hundreds of thousands of viewers.

i also want to point out that ranking at #13 isn’t strictly representative of viewer numbers, it’s about percentage of viewers that are within that core age bracket. the neighbourhood is ranking at #6, but only pulling in 4.8 million viewers - ncishi is at #13, and pulling in 5.2 million. ncishi pulls in over half a million more viewers than four shows ranked above it in that chart.

so essentially - it doesn’t make sense. from any perspective. it doesn’t make sense from a business perspective (ncis sydney is more expensive to produce and brings in approx. 200k less viewers than ncishi, and ncishi crew had already agreed to a shortened, budget-restrained final season), it doesn’t make sense for a ratings perspective (it continues to outperform many of cbs’ own shows, including ones that have been renewed), it doesn’t make sense from a social perspective (people are loving it, even outside of our fandom spaces).

objectively, it’s a really, really bad move by cbs. i also thought being part of a franchise would be a kind of safety net - fool me once, i guess. all the evidence suggests that they just don’t care enough about ncishi, especially when they’ve got their bullshit white guy ncis origins show, a young sheldon spinoff (?? who asked?) and a plethora of other cookie-cutter shows they can just keep going with. and we can make a pretty educated guess as to why, when the main things that set ncishi apart from the other ncis shows are its diversity and character dynamics

(edit: it was pointed out that people aren’t being flown to sydney from the us, which is true, and bad phrasing on my part - but many are flown across australia at seemingly similar costs to mainland us/hawai’i flights, and i believe not all of the leads are based in australia either, so i’ve updated that bit for clarity. apologies!)

a/n: welcome to the start of a new series! as stated in the masterlist, this series is going to be canon divergent, starting with the fact that everyone (bar Tuk) will be aged up 2-3 years in the main series. this is because that's how old i thought they were and so that's how old i'm writing them to be. (for once, i have proofread a fic! i had to retype this... entire chapter because of a single, tiny change i made. but hundreds of words had to be changed so i retyped the whole thing) important: while i couldn't find a canon answer, for the sake of this fic, Pandoran years are approx. 1.2 Earth years, so when I mention the ages of the reader and other characters, I'm referring to them in Pandoran years. (i.e. when i mention the reader's first birthday, technically she is 14 Earth months, and when Tuk is born, she is 13 Pandoran years, which is about 15 Earth years.) After this chapter, specific ages won't be mentioned, though chapter 1 will open with the year the series is set in!

So, after many months of warnings, she was placed in cryo whole her avatar was set to grow in the final of the six year flight to Pandora.

Only four months away from landing on Pandora, alarms blared on her cryo pod, and the few medics who remained awake for the duration of the trip were quick to pull her out. You were by no means the first child born in space, but you were the first born so far from Earth. And though they were highly trained, there was nothing the medical crew could do to save your mother. The combination of giving birth in space, being pulled so abruptly from cryo hibernation, and whatever had caused the alarms to sound in the first place was all to much for her body. Her last word was your name, barely whispered into the air. Your mother never made it to Pandora.

Cryo was not designed for infants, especially not newborns, so the first few months of your life was spent in space. The medics and awake crew did their best to work with what they had, teaching you babbled speech with medical and ship information. You were wide-eyed and happy, not knowing the life you were missing.

After landing on Pandora, the first person woken was Noah. A military man who had met your mother while training for the long-haul hibernation to, and eventual life on Pandora. He had known, of course, that she was pregnant, but nothing could prepare him for learning that she had died only months prior, and you – who was nothing more than a shape on a sonogram last he saw you – were chewing on your fingers and babbling replies as those who had raised you those long months had conversations you couldn’t understand.

Though he was ill-prepared, Noah still held you carefully in his arms as he adjusted the much-too-big oxygen mask onto your face, and held you close to his hip as he carried you off the ship and into the military base.

For a baby who had only ever seen greys and whites, only broken up by the blue of the avatar grow tanks, the bright and colourful world of Pandora had your tiny head looking around, eyes wide and mouth open as your mind raced to take all the new sensory information in. Your small hands drummed on your father’s shoulders, the only way for your excitement to manifest. And all too quickly, you were returned to the familiar monotone of the inside of a military base.

While Noah was working through orientation, you were held by a scientist as he moved around the lab and your eyes found the window into the forest at every opportunity. When he came to you that evening, Noah pressed a kiss to the crown of your head before easily taking you from the scientist who was looking after you. As he walked out of the lab and away from the window, you stared up at him with pleading, tear-filled eyes and in that moment, as you began to bubble with sadness, your dad realised that he completely and truly loved you, ad would do anything on this planet or the next to keep you, his tiny baby girl, safe.

When Jake arrived on Pandora, he was surprised to find a baby in the science lab. Even more so when you crawled as quickly as you could toward him once you saw he had wheeling in, followed closely by Max who bent down to scoop you up off the floor. You giggled as he rested you on his hip with a swing, then you turned to wave at Jake with chubby fingers.

He watched you as Max spoke, fighting the soft smile as you tilted your head and nodded along as if you understood what he said.

`“And this little one,” Max bounced you on his hip, causing more giggles to bubble out of you, “is out lab assistant.”

Although the title was entire a joke, you were still there watching (‘supervising’, as your dad would say) as Jake and Norm entered their link pods for the first time the following day, stood beside Jake’s pod with one hand on the edge of the pod to help you stand, and the other wrapped around his finger, giving it a squeeze with a smile as the metal cage was lowered over him. Jake wasn’t sure if you knew the action was usually used to comfort someone, but he accepted the reassurance. The confident smile from a wide-eyed toddler somehow working to settle his nervous heart.

The avatar program was something that you held an obvious fascination for, always watching whenever Jake or others went into their link pod, running your hands along the glass tunes that both currently and formerly grew the giant blue na’vi.

You always took longer on your mother’s one. Death hadn’t been explained to you, all you knew was that your mother was gone and that the avatar was going to be hers. And now that she was gone, the avatar was left to grow in the pod in hopes of finding a solution that would mean the four billion dollars put into it wouldn’t be wasted.

After the death of your mother, her avatar was all but ignored past wondering what to do with it now that its host was gone, because all focus was on you. But once you had been reunited with your father, the team could move their attention away from you, and return it to the avatar problem. Somewhere in the seven Earth months since your birth, the genetic code of it had collapsed, no longer growing and still stuck looking like a young toddler.

There was little that could be done with it, until one day Noah mentioned off-handedly to one of the scientists who had claimed the role of uncle – he was the one who took the most care of you when your father wasn’t around, the one who carried you while he was at orientation, and he worked closely with your mother back on Earth – that it was a shame you couldn’t use it when you got older, already so fascinated with the planet he could only imagine what would happen as you grew. This sparked the idea within your uncle.

With half of your genetics matching your mother, he used your DNA to complete the broken strands within the avatar. And to ensure it would grow properly, the markers that accelerated the ageing process was removed.

It was noted within the report file that since combining your DNA with the existing genetics of the young avatar, the face shape had changed. Though clearly older, the new face – especially compared with the old – was unmistakably becoming more you.

As war between the humans and the Na’vi quickly arose, you were often kept in a room adjacent to the lab so you could be cared for if adults were required, but you would never have to bear witness to any of the symptoms of war. You were confused the day you watched as Grace and Norm packed up their link pods and left, chewing on your lunch as they took the equipment. But you were assured by your dad that you would see them again.

“They’ll be okay, pumpkin,” he reassured as your eyes began to well, “they just have to move to somewhere quieter for now.”

He hoped that one day he would be able to return home to Earth and that you would be able to go with him, live a life that wasn’t filled with medical beeping and soldiers as playmates. But should that never happen, should you never be able to go to Earth or never want to leave, he would stay with you. This planet was your home, and his home was now with you, his happy, curious daughter.

With war plans picking up, your father was away more often, sometimes gone overnight, leaving you to be cared for by Paz. She was a soldier, like most people in the military base, but she had more free time than others. Though stubborn and wanting to continue with training and missions, her heavily pregnant body wouldn’t allow it. So reluctantly, she stepped down from active duty. Paz was happy to care for you, holding your hand when you demanded, making sure that you ate and were safe. She also adored the way you would look up at her with pleading eyes to rest your hands on her stomach, wanting to feel for the kicks of the growing baby.

You had never seen another child in person, didn’t quite understand what was going on, but what you did know was that you were already fascinated by and adored the baby. So when Paz went into labour, you excitedly waited on a bench outside the medbay under careful supervision of other staff. All you were told by Paz as she was escorted in, arm cradling under her stomach with a wince, was that she was going to be okay and you’d be able to meet the baby properly soon. That was enough for you to act as almost security on the door, tiny arms clumsily folded to mimic something you had seen from your father many times. You were worried, of course, as you heard the sounds of Paz in pain. But she had assured you that everything was okay, and you trusted her.

Your dad returned to base from a field mission to see you curled up on the bench, fighting with your heavy eyes. He sat down beside you and pulled you into his lap, and you easily curled up against his chest.

“Baby soon.” You mumbled to him.

“Oh yeah, is Aunty Paz having her baby?” He hadn’t known that Paz had gone into labour, though he knew her due date was getting close. Paz wasn’t your biological aunt, of course, but she didn’t want to take the place of your mother, so she took on the title of aunt. You nodded with a tired smile. With your father rubbing slow circles on your back, you fell asleep.

You woke to the sound of your father’s voice saying your name and the feeling of his hand giving you a gentle shake. You hummed, rubbing your eyes.

“You wanna meet the baby?” All sleep was shaken from your little body as you wriggled to get off of his lap, almost falling in the process. He caught you, standing to scoop you onto his hip. Carried into the room by your dad, you saw Paz and in her arms, wrapped in a hospital-white blanket, the new baby.

You were placed on the side of the hospital cot, carefully shifting forward as to not hurt Paz, but to see the baby - the first baby you had ever seen.

Paz held out her hand and you placed one of your own in it, allowing her to guide it to rest on the baby.

“His name is Miles.” Your eyes flicked up to hers for a moment, before quickly returning them to Miles. You watched in fascination as his tiny nose scrunched as he took in a breath, making tiny humming noises. “Are you going to help me take care of him?” You sucked in an excited breath, eyes lighting up as you nodded.

Days later, soldiers were rushing around and you were back in the room by the lab, this time with the newborn baby. Paz was dragged back into the war - though she did demand being allowed to pilot again immediately after being medically cleared to walk - and returned to the cockpit of her gunship.

Her body was never recovered, like many others who attacked the Tree of Souls. She was buried by Eywa where she landed.

A lot of things changed after that day. Jake, who you used to see in the avatar lab nearly every day, was gone. Most of the soldiers and scientists who had been living at Hell’s Gate left, leaving only a handful of people behind. And suddenly the bustling military base that you called home fell far quieter.

While both you and Miles were initially given birthdays using Earth dates, it quickly became clear to the adults around you that neither of you would return to Earth so they shifted, referring to your ages in Pandoran years.

Though both you and Miles were far too young to attend Neteyam’s naming, and his and Kiri’s joint first communion with Eywa, Jake and Neytiri brought the babes to Hell’s Gate for you to meet them. Although you had seen Miles grow from being a newborn, you were still fascinated by the tiny, blue forms. You were used to the na’vi, their looming heights and builds nothing new. But seeing two so small and helpless had your eyes alight with curiosity.

Because of the sudden lack of personnel, your father didn’t get to celebrate your first birthday as he wanted to, guiltily too busy with the few-month-old, now orphaned baby Miles. So, while your second birthday was nothing special it was something Noah would say was decidedly better. It was small, still nothing close to what he wanted to do for you. But he was limited by what he had access to. So instead of a cake, Neytiri brought a fruit - soft and safe for human consumption - that was traditional to give to na’vi children on their first birthday.

She still saw you as an alien and not one of the people, but she knew of Jake’s softness for you and would not deny him seeing the human celebration of your second year. You could not blow out a candle, the fire both a danger to the base and something that would use some of the precious oxygen. So Noah had you sat on one of the tables in the canteen, the large fruit on a plate in front of you. You were surrounded by those who helped raise you, scientists and soldiers alike, with Miles sat on Max’s hip and Neytiri and Jake carefully cradling the babies close.

You learned to run alongside the Sully children, clumsily tripping over branches that they, though a year younger, seemed to easily avoid. You chased them, laughing as you played, closely followed by the tiny but ever-determined Miles.

When Lo’ak was born only a year later, you already spoke in a mix of Na’vi and English. Jake laughed with Noah as your father commented on how you were already better at the Na’vi language than he was, despite Jake being one of the People. Jake ruffled his hair, a motion he mimicked a lot when they were new in the marines together. But now Noah’s hair had grown longer and curls fell into his eyes as he batted Jake away.

As you continued to grow, Miles always close behind you as you played with the Sully children, your father tried his best to give you a normal childhood, all things considered. He watched you explore the forest near the base, supervising as you climbed around the roots of the large trees, teaching you to paddle and eventually swim around in the small lake Jake had shown him. But it became clear very quickly, that while Miles was able to run further and for longer, you were plagued with gasping breaths that had you clutching your chest trying to breathe.

Asthma. It was hard enough for you as you played with your friends that you were stuck wearing an oxygen mask. But the addition of asthma left you sitting on the sidelines and watching often.

The medical facilities at Hell’s Gate had inhalers, as well as attachments for your exopack to fill your lungs with ventolin when you needed it. But the access to the medication didn’t stop the knowledge that you would never be able to play with your friends like Miles - or Spider, as he was being called more often than he was Miles - from making you feel even more like an outsider.

By the time you were 10, your asthma had eased, but you still couldn’t run and climb with your friends like Spider could. You visited the village occasionally, but didn’t want to risk being stuck so far from the base should your lungs decide to protest against you, so when you spent time with the Sully children, it was around Hell’s Gate or in the lab.

You leaned against a tree, struggling to catch your breath after running away from Spider who was determined to drop an overripe fruit onto your head. You watched enviously as he changed his target to Lo’ak, who shoved Kiri in front of him as a shield. The laugh you let out as purple splashed across her chest and she yelled at Lo’ak was wheezed and you were worried that you would have to use some of your ventolin.

Neteyam looked over at you, even smaller than usual as you curled in on yourself. His long legs quickly carried him over to you, and Neteyam rested a three-fingered hand on your back.

“Breathing?” Jake had tried his best to explain asthma to his kids, but gave up after receiving many blank stares. Instead he elected to say that sometimes you couldn’t breathe very well.

You could only nod, relaxing a little as you realised that if an asthma attack were to occur, you wouldn’t be alone in the Pandoran brush. Neteyam’s eyebrows pinch in concern as he tilts his head, feeling bad that there was nothing he could do to help. All he could do was stay with you, sat beside you and keeping you company as your breath gradually lost its wheeze.

As the years passed, Neteyam gradually spent less and less time with his siblings and with you. In the traditions of the clan, he was being introduced to the responsibilities of being next in line to be olo’eyktan. Though not quite old enough to be taken out on hunts, his training became more frequent, to the point where he wasn’t only being called away by Jake in the middle of a game, but simply wouldn’t appear for days.

“Am I too harsh on him?” Jake asked, turning his attention away from the preteens playing in a pond by Hell’s Gate to Noah. Spider was chasing after Lo’ak and Kiri, trying to splash them with water, while you and Neteyam were sat side-by-side on a rock, feet in the water. You nudged him with your shoulder as he kicked water at you with a laugh and Jake sighed.

“I won’t pretend to understand the pressure you both have on you,” Noah said with a sigh, “because this isn’t Earth and he is being raised to be the warrior leader of the clan. And you don’t always have a choice because of the clan traditions.” You let out a shriek and Noah quickly turned his head to you, only to see that Neteyam had picked you up to drop you into the water.

“I know it’s just-” Jake cut himself off with a sigh as Neteyam laughed with you. “I feel like I’m not letting him be a kid for as long as he deserves.” Noah gave him a pat on the arm, reassuring.

When Tuktiry was born, you hadn’t seen Neteyam in weeks. Lo’ak had complained that he was training to be the golden child, but Kiri quickly nudged him when she saw the sadness in your eyes. While Spider had connected himself at the hip to Kiri and Lo’ak, you ended up closer to Neteyam. So when he had up and vanished from your daily life, you felt something missing.

“Neteyam!” You called out once you saw him. You and Spider, along with your father and a select few other humans, were invited to Tuk’s naming. Spider had insisted on dragging you to the village early, and with a lighthearted roll of your eyes, you joined him.

“Y/N? Hi!” He jogged over to you, crouching down a little to pull you into a hug. “You’re early.” Neteyam let you go and stood back to his full height.

“Spider.” You pointed over your shoulder toward your cousin who was already tugging at Lo’ak’s tail, the only explanation needed. Neteyam nodded with a laugh.

“I am glad you’re here.” His voice was soft as his head tilted.

For the rest of the day leading up to Tuktiry’s naming, you and Neteyam spent time together and with his siblings, everything easy as if Neteyam had never been dragged away from spending time with you.

But just as quickly as things seemed to return to normal, Neteyam was gone again. After Tuktiry’s naming and first Eywa communion, his training seemed to double, and while Spider could see him in the village, you remained stuck close to Hell’s Gate.

HI!!!! OF COURSE!!! i've been having such a blast looking over these responses! it'd be selfish not to share some info with you all!!

i posted this survey on reddit as well, so i'm getting a lot of variety in the results! i have about 92 responses so far. if anyone wants to post this on twitter, discord, or any other social media, definitely do!! the bigger the sample size, the more accurate the results!

age seems to be very evenly spread across the 14 - 30+ range, funny enough. this one will be interesting to look into more once i have more responses, could make for some super interesting correlations.

vast majority of responses are from cis females (approximately 70% as of rn), however there have been absolutely zero cis males, meaning the remaining 30% of the respondents are trans, nonbinary, genderfluid, or prefer not to answer :)

majority of respondents are straight, however, there are also a lot of asexuals. like a lot. following that are the bisexuals and then aromantics. this is just from a quick glimpse, but it seems the straight/bisexual respondents trend towards ayn, the aromantic respondents trend towards cael (this one is actually very notable), the asexual respondents trend towards alkaid, and clarence and lars are wildcards and are a good mix of everything.

this is also besides the point but the small number of lesbian respondents are currently evenly split between both alkaid and clarence, haha.

north america, europe, and asia are the most reoccurring continents, so i'm not too surprised there. majority of respondents are white or asian. following these two are black respondents, and then those of hispanic, latino, or spanish origin.

alkaid is doing very well in the general character preferences section, and i regret not adding mc as a character as a few people put her in the "other" section! alkaid is also leading in the bias section, with ayn and cael trailing in second and third respectively. though, it is worth noting this section is evenly spread, with no major stand outs as of rn.

general route preference is heavily biased in favor of clarence's godheim route and alkaid's eden route! it also seems a large chunk of the respondents have not even played the eden routes yet, which makes for alkaid's second place status somewhat impressive.

when i held everyone as gunpoint to pick one (1) favorite route, clarence's godheim route is leading in first, with alkaid's eden route trailing in second. other routes of interest here are ayn's eden route and alkaid's godheim route.

world preferences are very evenly spread, though "whatever the hell is going on with cael's world" is leading by like, two right now HAHA

most people (approx 65%) use japanese voice acting, while the remaining 21% use the chinese voice acting (shout out to my fellow chinese voice acting girlies, the zhao lu pull is Too Strong), and 13% swap between both.

spending seems very split. half of us are free to play and half of us spend only a little on monthly passes or tiny purchases. a very small portion (7% or so) spend more than that.

Im tired of the debate about criminal minds and it’s lack of consistency, I’m making the official decision that Aaron Hotchner was born in 1965!

I just spent a freakish amount of time crafting up a general timeline of his (very crowded) career and life in general based on his birth year being 1965 and I think it works.

Apologies for any inaccuracies in advance, I know nothing about any of these jobs or the American education system, and I haven’t slept in almost two days so this could very likely be absolute nonsense.

The most recent birthday shown in the show for Hotch is November 2, 1965. Because of this, and the fact that it logically makes more sense (I will explain later).

Hotch was born on November 2, 1965 in Virginia.

This means that Hotch would have started kindergarten, in 1971 because of his late birthday. This also makes sense with Haley’s age reportedly being a year younger when the show had him born in 1971 and her in 1972 according to the wiki. Not sure when/if this is mentioned in the show and I cannot bring myself to look for it.

From the very confusing sources i found online, from the start of school to high school graduation in Virginia is 13 years. Kindergarten then grades 1 through 12, totalling 13 years of schooling.

This means he graduates high-school in 1984. This is consistent with Emily having been born in 1970 and graduating high-school in 1989.

Let’s say he did a three year undergrad as most undergraduate programs are 3-4 years long. He graduates in 1987, writes his LSATs then attends Law school.

Law school takes another three years which brings us to 1990.

I don’t think that internships or apprenticeships are required but to be safe let’s just say he started working as an intern of sorts at some point during his last year of law school.

We know hotch is highly intelligent, has a lawyer father and it’s implied he comes from money. So it would take no significant time for him to find himself a good position and begin working as a prosecutor very quickly.

Let’s say he worked as a prosecutor for 4 years before he decided it wasn’t enough and he wanted to catch killers instead.

He was a sharpshooter for SWAT at some point according to some notes on his character, and a mention in season one. He clearly is a VERY good shot as seen in 4x5 and 9x3 so I’ll say he spent about a year doing that before he made his way to the Seattle field office in 1995.

He was the case agent for the Womb Raider case in 1997 and that is when he met Rossi.

Rossi had been retired approximately 10 years before making his return in 2007, and Hotch and Rossi are implied to have worked in the same BAU office. Let’s say Hotch transferred to the Quantico Office sometime soon after that case, worked with Rossi until about 1998, leaving Gideon in charge.

That means that in season one (2005) Hotch had approximately 7 years in the Quantico BAU, 10 years in the BAU total, add his time in SWAT and that is about 11 years total in the field.

Plus his 4 years or so as a prosecutor and he has 15 years (approx) in a law related field.

Though it’s never specified when Hotch became the unit chief he is referred to as such in the first season. So I think the most logical and most common theory is that Gideon stepped down after the bombing (occurred in 2005 according to the wiki) and Hotch took on the role as, besides Gideon, he has the most experience as a profiler. I don’t know exactly how long it would realistically take one to become a unit chief, but this explains why Hotch would hold the position regardless of his age or years in the bureau. Plus the BAU was still relatively “new” compared to other units, so Hotch would likely be first choice to lead regardless, given his experience.

Hotch being born in 1965 would make him 40 years old in the first season.

Nameless, Faceless says he is 43 on his patient chart, the patient chart was shown after he was identified. Nameless, faceless takes place in 2009, and we can safely assume that this is before his birthday because Haley is killed November 25th of that same year, many episodes later but not even a month after Hotch has his 44th birthday.

There are a couple small issues plot wise with him being born in 1965. Primarily with the way his relationships with Sean and Haley are described.

Haley and Hotch were highschool sweethearts, they met in junior year and there has never been any indication that they have been separated for any reason since. Theories about a break in college, or while Hotch was in Seattle have no canon evidence behind them and are just theories. The idea that Kate Joyner and Hotch hooked up (“liaised”) is also not confirmed and results purely from jokes made by the BAU team and the fact that Haley and Kate look alike so we should just discard any separation theories.

The divorce papers say they were married in 2000 and then divorced 8 years later in 2008. Which means they would have dated for about 16/17 years before getting married and 5 years later having a child. Though to most this is probably a bit unconventional considering both Hotch and Haley seemed to want a very typical nuclear family, white picket fence, kids, stay at home mom, yada yada type of situation. But the idea that they didn’t want to get engaged right during Aarons undergrad/law school isn’t far fetched, they might have gotten engaged during his 4 year period as a prosecutor, but delayed the wedding because he was in Seattle and maybe she wasn’t. I find this and the career timeline more probable than Hotch being younger, with a crunched career timeline and 10/11 years before he married Haley.

As Haley would have been 40 when Jack was born, it’s very realistic to say they could have wanted to try for a baby any time after the marriage and it might have just taken longer because of her age.

Now the Sean plot hole is not explainable. Sean is about 25 in the first season, we don’t know his birth year but a year difference in this math won’t change the outcome. We know Hotch is 40 in season one. This means Sean is 15 years younger than Hotch. Yet in Brothers Hotchner, Aaron claims he was sent off to boarding school when Sean was in the 1st (I think) grade. Which is not possible with a 15 year age gap.

I could be somewhat more possible if Hotch was born in 1971, as it would mean Sean was born in 1980 and would be 10 years old when Hotch graduates high school in 1990 so the boarding school stuff would make a lot more sense here. But this is really the only thing that birth-year makes accurate. So we can probably just write this off as another criminal minds inconsistency that has to be ignored instead of explained.

This took me multiple hours of surface level research so it certainly could be wrong, it’s just what I’m assuming based of the most probable and most canon things. Also the fact that him being born in 1971 makes him YOUNGER than Emily, and I’m not sure if it’s explicitly said he is older than her or not, but it’s heavily implied. Also 1965 makes him a lot closer to Thomas Gibsons age, and since Hotchs age isn’t really relevant to anything in the actual show itself they probably just gave him a generic “he’s around TG’s age” typa thing until they had to give him a birth year. Which they also didn’t really care about enough to keep consistent.

Once again, really basic google searches and my overtired brains recollection of details in the show are what provided me with the information used in this. So corrections are welcomed.

I assumed that Virginia schools start kids in school based on if they were born before or after September as I think many American schools tend to do that. It also made sense with Haley’s birth year so I let myself go with that assumption. That’s not how schools and ages work where I live so I hope I did that correctly. I also saw that there was only a year of kindergarten and then grades 1-12 (also not how it’s done where I live) so that could be all wrong. Or he could have gone to some fancy school and started or finished early. Who knows, who cares. It’s too hard to think about.

Also assumed that he didn’t need an internship or placement post law school.

with all the timeline and aging talking going around, i couldnt help but wonder what youre thoughts are on time progress in Legacyverse (and if youre able how it applies to DR) 👀

Well, this is something I've discussed before (and here a bit), but I have since refined it!

Pilots: May 20X1 - June 20X1 (Zane/Cole: 17, Kai/Jesse/Olivia: 16, Jay/Nya: 15, Lloyd: 13)

S1: August 20X1 - November 20X1 (Zane/Cole/Kai: 17, Jesse/Olivia: 16, Jay turns 16, Nya: 15, Lloyd turns 14)

S2: November 20X1 - very early January 20X2 (Zane/Cole/Kai: 17, Olivia turns 17, Jesse/Jay: 16, Nya: 15, Lloyd: 14)

(...also fun fact, this season/book roughly matches everyone's ages for the Royal!AU! ...with exception of Pixal, but still, anywaaaay—)

NRG Arc (Wildbrain Seasons): a pending August 20X6 - December 20X6 (again, haven't fully sorted through this, but all these adventures save for maybe S11 wouldn't...be longer than a few days or a week or three, at most.) (Zane/Cole/Kai/Skylor: 22, Jesse: 21, Jay and Pixal turn 21, Nya: 20, Lloyd turns 19)

Finale Arc (S10+Crystalized): December 20X7 (or whenever the anniversary of Seabound's events would be) - January 20X8. Possibly longer, possibly shorter. Knowing me, probably longer. (Zane turns 24, Cole/Kai/Skylor: 23, Jesse/Jay/Pixal: 22, Nya: 21, Lloyd: 20)

. . . I know that's a lot of colors and numbers, hope I didn't blind anyone ;w;

Anyway, that is where Legacyverse officially ends; everything beyond is just fun speculation and does not apply to nor affects nor reflects upon the story proper!!!!

The Merge: approx. January 2020 (In my head, there's a minimum of two years between Crystalized and the events of the Merge, giving ample space for Quest for Lost Powers to happen on top of giving these people at least a small break (and maybe Jesse a baby), but not so long that they're that much older either yet. Thus, this also puts the timing of the Merge in the year of 2020.)

So Zane is almost 26, Cole/Kai/Skylor: 25, Jesse/Jay/Pixal: 24, Nya: 23, and Lloyd: 22 at the time of The Merge, for my case for show!compliancy.

...though in the chain of events that do include Cam, I'd add on an extra two years of "downtime", which would then put The Merge in the year 2022...maybe on 2/2/22 for extra eerie factor oooOOOoooh)

So, ages for The Merge event in the Cam!Route would be Zane: 28, Cole/Kai/Skylor: 27, Jesse almost 27, Jay/Pixal: 26, Nya almost 26, and Lloyd: 24. Cam would also be two, almost three ;w;)/

DR: Aaaaaaand then, the general yet subjective consensus is that the time between the Merge itself and the start of the DR events has to be a minimum of 3-5 years for Arin/Sora to grow up from kids to teens with palpable differences + the "annual" events of the Crossroads to have merit + that dialogue exchange after Zane's freedom to make sense, etc.

For show!compliancy, I'd actually go with the three years side of spectrum. So in 2023 (heyo, the year DR began in meta time!!!), Zane is almost 29, Cole/Kai/Skylor: 28, Jesse/Jay/Pixal: 27, Nya: 26, and Lloyd: 25, ding ding ding ding!

...But since I am me, I have already committed to the full five years for my own personal hcs. So for the Cam!Route, I'd go with five years instead -> so in 2027, Zane: 33, Cole/Kai/Skylor: 32, Jesse almost 32, Jay/Pixal: 31, Nya almost 31, and Lloyd: 29. Cam would also be seven, almost eight.

So, yeah. Not 100% concrete thoughts or anything, but they're the things I've been munching on in my head. And this is just basing off of how time plays out in Legacyverse, not necessarily 1:1 to how I think things unfold in the show proper (...which I dunno if I could even begin to untangle beyond what I already have ._.)

Also, if you're curious about others' ages in relativity to all this:

Bridget is 2 years older than Olivia

Miranda+Nelson are 3 years younger than Jesse (or, one year younger than Lloyd)

Antonia is older than Jay by a month, otherwise they're the same

Harleigh and Sunni are roughly Nya's age (but Harleigh's older + Sunni's younger); Maggie fits in this group as well

Harumi and Darkley's kids are obvs Lloyd's age, just older than him

Meghan is roughly Zane's age

Chad is Kai's age (just younger by a few weeks)

It’s SPOOKY SCARY SKELETONS MONTH

So let’s talk about yer bones! Yeah, that’s right, Captian Holt. I said –

An adult has (roughly) 206 bones (I say ‘roughly’! You can have non-pathological anatomical variation, such as lumbarised sacral vertebrae (an extra bone in your back) or accessory sesamoids like the flabella (a little bone at the back of the knee!))

A newborn has (roughly) 300 bones

That's a big difference! Almost 100 bones of difference! Where do they go?

Well, you see - as you get older, every time you come into the hospital we steal more of your bones...

Just kidding.

...Or am I

As an embryo, your skeleton is completely composed of cartilage. This gradually ossifies as you age, until, as an adult, you have a full skeleton, with only the interactive portions of joints being capped with hyaline cartilage.

See all those weird blobs? Those are bones in the process of fusing together! The transverse lines that could be mistaken for fractures are actually epiphyseal plates – hyaline cartilage bridges between the shaft of a bone and what will become its tip, which don't attenuate x-rays, and thus appear black on our radiographs! This is where bone growth occurs - the cartilage forms a sort of template matrix that then ossifies into bone.

Compare our paediatric radiograph to the AP knee radiographs of an adult with no visible pathology:

See how all those ragged pieces have joined up? That’s endochondral ossification, BABY!

This is how we can figure out the age of a paediatric service user from their bones! Certain bones form at different times.

Let’s check out the carpal bones – all those fiddly little bones in your wrist! Anyone who’s binged Hatecrimes MD – sorry, House MD as often as I have will know the classic acronym for remembering the names of these bones. Moving thumb side to pinkie side, we have…

Scared (Scaphoid - red)

Lovers (Lunate - dark blue)

Hate (Hamate - green)

To (Triquetrum - yellow)

Try (Trapezium - orange)

The (Trapezoid - light blue)

Coolest (Capitate - purple)

Positions (Pisiform - pink)

But did you know that these bones form at different times?

The Capitate ossifies at 1-3 months

The Hamate ossifies at 2-4 months

The Triquetrum ossifies at 2-3 years

The Lunate ossifies at 2-4 years

The Scaphoid, Trapezium and Trapezoid ossify at 4-6 years

And the Pisiform ossifies at 8-12 years

So, I can look at this picture, and tell you that this child is approximately 3 years old, because their Capitate and Hamate have ossified, and their Triquetrum is just visible, starting to ossify below the thumb (circled!)

Your bones continue to form and fuse until you reach about 25! Your olecranon (the bump of your elbow) starts to ossify at 6-11 years, and fuses at 13-16 years! We can look at the base of your fifth metatarsal to age afab folks who are approx. 10 and amab folks who are approx. 12, as this bone fuses in the 2-4 years following these ages! The medial end of the clavicle can be used to assess your age from approximately 18-22, and your facial bones continue to ossify into adulthood! How cool is that?

If you’re over 25, fret not – there’s still plenty of funky stuff happening to your bones. But we’ll get into all of that next time, when we take a look at the function of osteoblasts and osteoclasts and explore all the cool little jobs that your bones perform within your body - it's more than you might think!
