anyway this one is a one shot that is mostly bullet points rn but like. what if Bruce Wayne, not Batman, but Bruce is visiting the alley where his parents died. it was a spur of the moment decision, he's wearing a suit and the town car is pulled into they alley. and then he hears a gun cock and he turns around and it's like it is in his nightmares. a man, holding a gun, demanding his wallet and his watch. and Bruce acts without thinking. he wrenches the gun from the man's hand and punches him hard and the man falls back. the sharp crack of his head hitting the corner of the dumpster rings through the alley.

he doesn't get back up.

a kid screams. falls to his knees next to his father. and Bruce had been wrong before, because this is what it's like in his nightmares.

and the kid is Jason Todd and the mugger is Willis and Bruce just killed Willis Todd and the fic is Bruce reckoning with what he's done bc he's rich and famous and faces no consequences bc it was self defense in the eyes of the law. even after being murdered, Willis is nothing but trash to the system. and then the fic is just Bruce/Batman stalking Jason throughout his adolescence

Abuse, probably. But also some people are just not cut out for parenting and that's okay.

Hades: Then we would shake hands, grab the kid, or kids, if there are multiples, and raise them as our own.

Thinking about Guel, Miorine and Suletta and how each is defined by an abusive parent figured, each in a different situation.

Guel was seen as the role he was to occupy by his father, and then rejected when he failed to do so. One of the most impacting interactions between him and Suletta is when she shows love for her mom and he glimpses at how parental relationship should be. Now his father is dead, and he gets to make up a world where his dad would really love him.

Then, there's Miorine, whose father has always controlled her and disregarded her will with an iron hand. As soon as he started to support her choices, he was thrown out of the picture. He's now between life and death, and she has discovered he did intend to protect her somehow. To match his current state, Miorine now feels conflicted about him and his projects and intentions - and in it wishes for him to live.

Finally, Suletta and Prospera, at the center of everything. Prospera is alive, and she has always been part of Suletta's life. Just as Miorine's and Guel's dad, though, she is authoritative and sees Suletta only as a tool. But she does it silently, while being there for Suletta at all times. Almost as if she's life itself for Suletta.

All parents are idealized and mistified and uncomprehended by their kids, in death and in life - but the ones who are so the most are so in life and through love.

i don't think sega honestly intended for it to be involved in lore or whatever. there was not worldbuilding in mind with that. since the sonic games are aimed at tween audiences, who want to see themselves portrayed as confident and able to take on grand adventures, because they're just mini adults and want to be treated as such, it of course makes sense not to have a bunch of boring adults bogging down their adventure.

however lore wise they drive me bonkers

there's two ways i like to interpret it and that either the mobian society operates like pokemon or sonic and his friends are the insane outliers. like either its super common for kids to just wander around unsupervised, going on fun adventures, like in pokemon, or its NOT the norm but sonic and his alien/dimensional counterpart/future/god friends are just. exceptions. like okay technically amy should not be renting her own apartment however she has been involved in numerous plots to stop eggman from basically turning the world into a giant pollutated wasteland and/or amusement park. so sure. also who's going to be the bastard that tries to take the kid who fights gods and robots for fun to like, an orphanage. nope.

i am VERY interested in the parents they do mention. like vanilla. i want her lore so badly and DO NOT GET ME STARTED ON JET"S FATHER. literally everything about the babylons drives me insane but thinking about the generation right before jet *shakes*. also the fact that they gave rouge a mom is so fucking funny even if she's only mentioned. i love it so much.

OH im gonna use this ask as an excuse to ramble about some tangentially related stuff, ive got this headcanon that there's some (slightly experimental?) reproductive magic at play :O not that i don't think there would be a surrogate involved, but i like the thought of there being an already existing science for this. as far as the actual surrogate goes, i prefer not using any in-game/named character! i think it gets too complicated, especially with parenting. usually i imagine this isn't an entirely unusual process, and so a """royal surrogate""" of sorts is a role that's filled when necessary. but again, i don't like using canon characters for that role.

essentially the gist of everything cicero told me (imma cite the sources they gave me in case you want to do further reading) was that alex jr in general left his family in times of financial hardship to fend for themselves, putting all the responsibility on james to be basically the eldest son (cicero also has a good post on this). he also stole his father’s papers and tried to get an unreasonable amount of money out of e. holly’s will.
