me: damn so it was her grandma huh 💔

also me, but in tears: erm actually 🤓☝️ it’s about this lonely child discovering that she has always been loved in a way that’s so strong that it transcends past & present. the lightness and the relief that comes from seeing yourself in someone else. you may be outside of the circle but it doesn’t mean you can’t make your own. one u can invite others in too.

#yes i wanted a sapphic coming of age studio ghibli style but the the THEMES #of both the movie and the book are so poignant that it’s still just as good #cuz that’s the thing Marnie WAS there #her taste of adventure her childish fears her loneliness #but her love? It’s STILL there. It never left. so it hits so hard for the audience and Anna to know that that love was with her #That she was the by product of the by product of it #even if she’s been left behind many times over…this child that didn’t see herself as loveable very much IS #and that she’s capable of giving back love too as we can see when she befriends sayaka & finally calls auntie mom #it’s still a story worth telling #studio ghibli #when marnie was there
