3 strat studying - ADHD
THREE STRATEGIES – with funny titles because I'm hilarious
1. Mr Beast speedrun: get most out of time before brain shuts off and loses interest.
-ADHD MAKES YOU HAVE A SHORT ATTENTION SPAN, SO YOU HAVE TO GET AS MUCH AS YOU CAN OUT OF YOUR TIME BEFORE YOU GET DISTRACTED
-use flashcards – rereading your notes is ineffective because it's passive.
-if you can only focus for an hour, don't push; just get as much as you can out of that hour.
-don't actually rush, just make sure you stay as focused as possible in the time you have.
2. Tick, tick... Boom!: biggest reward, quickest convenience
-COMPLETING A TASK GIVES YOU A QUICK HIT OF DOPAMINE AND WE'RE ALWAYS CHASING THAT DOPAMINE, SO MAKE FINISHING THE TASK FEEL MORE REWARDING
-ADHD – you can't regulate impulsivity, there's always a dopamine craving.
-use to-do lists to organise what you want to do and motivate you to do them.
-short-term rewards – create a 30-minute-at-a-time schedule, after every 30 minutes, cross/tick off the item, and make sure the task will only take 30 minutes so your goals are realistic.
3. The Rosier twins: body doubling; complete tasks alongside somebody else
-A LOT OF PEOPLE WITH ADHD FIND IT MORE MOTIVIATING TO BE AROUND OTHER PEOPLE WHILST THEY WORK
-but be careful in case you end up talking with the person, because you could find it hard to focus.
-make sure you actually get work done instead of just hanging out with a friend.
-if you find it hard to focus around noise or talking, use white noise so you can be around people but not be distracted.

ADHD Note Taking
I'm reading an online text book now (while YouTube is playing) and I wanted to do this right now real quick on how I do notes and people can add how they do notes with ADHD or other learning disorders. (Also at least I am doing this when I started this who knows if I'll add this to my drafts)
I write in differnt colored pens. -- I find writing in one color kind of makes everything blend together just like, bleeeeggghh. Writing in different colors separates the points to me and also when I inevitably lose my reading place, I have a general idea where I was.
I also think the routine thing works in here. Some say routine helps ADHD, I disagree, I think routine irritates me. I think of routine like the Doctor from Doctor Who does. It's appalling to me and it makes me want to scream or rip off my arm just so something happens. (You may think that's overdramatic but who are you to judge me, likely neurotypical person!?) I think routine bores my brain and makes it drift off and the different colors helps that.
I write one side of the page, not on both sides -- When you write and you turn the page, it caused the led or ink to smudge on the page and it kind of messes me up and also if you write in ink it bleeds slightly even with gel pens that I use and that also messes me up so I write on the front side of every new page which I know is wasteful but so is writing notes that don't help me.
I always seperate each line of words with those notebook lines -- When I was in elementary school (because I had a motor skills problem) I would be brought out of class to work on my writing and I was taught to write inside the line which is how most people probably do it but I've found if I go to the next line it also makes it blend in together and it like, where am I, there's too much in this one spot. There are hanging hooks of J's and Y's and I slanted my writing a little, so I put one clean space of notebook lines between my writing.
I have something of relevance playing -- I'm studying psychology right now--I want to delve more in the psychology of people for writing and what not and I always knew I understood psychology better because of my ADHD and I had started watching Criminal Minds which is about the FBI's branch called the BAU (Behavorial Anayalsis Unit) where they use psychology and statistics to narrow down who a criminal (like a serial killer) is and understand them and I found I actually understood what they were saying a lot--so I play Criminal Minds while I study. It's relevant and so it keeps me on task--ideally I do episodes I've already seen but sometimes I do new ones. (I'm only season 12)

How do people - especially neurodivergent people - manage to maintain a schedule or a routine, during which they do work for their job/school, work on their passions, sleep long enough, spend time with their friends, work on their hobbies and not feel exhausted after two days of this thing?
I'm genuinely curious, if you got any advice for this lemme know, i wanna learn

Random writing tips that my history professor just told during class that are actually helpful
Download all your sources or print them so you can turn off your wifi
Give your phone to someone
Just. WRITE. Writing is analysing, you’ll get more ideas as you write. It doesn’t need to be perfect, for now you can just blurt out words and ideas randomly. You can fix it later.
Create a skeleton/structure before writing.
Stop before you get exhausted. It’s best to stop writing when you still have some energy and inspiration left, this will also motivate you to get started again next time.
Make a to do list
Work in bite sizes. Even if it’s not much, as long as you put some ideas on paper or do some editing.
Simple language =/= boring language, simple language = clear language.
Own your words. If they are not your words, state this clearly in the text, not just in the footnotes.
STOP BEFORE YOU GET EXHAUSTED. Listing it again because it’s easily one of the best tips a teacher has ever given me.

Me: fuck just. How do I focus during this test that I'm in rn as an AuDHD person
Google: ok, so, to focus on this thing that you currently are doing and need to get done TODAY; weeks before the test you'll need to eat healthy and exercise, meditate, study, set timers, take breaks, drink water, sleep, find the secrets to a happy life, adopt five children, sacrifice a goat, take short showers, brush your teeth

yes, yes i know edgeworth’s big wet eyes and loser boy personality have captivated us all, but listen. listen.
phoenix wright
phoenix “genuinely unable to reconcile the girl on the stand with the girl he dated for eight months, a cognitive dissonance so profound it’s ultimately explained by them being literally two different people, but which he first sits with for five years and does not talk about at any point to anyone” wright
phoenix “don’t mention that name to me. i don’t want to talk about it. i don’t want to think about it. i am just going to keep myself in this state of perpetual crisis mode focus on other people’s problems until eventually i die and get to hang out with mia on the astral plane and never have to deal with any of these emotions ever again” wright
phoenix “overnight loses his career and reputation and sense of identity while gaining an adopted, probably pretty traumatized eight-year-old daughter, and rather than leaning on his friends for help, or getting therapy, or taking any time to process any of this, he *checks notes* spends seven years dedicating all his free time and energy to investigating the weird fucking circumstances around it and maintains a friendship with the guy he suspects was behind it all” wright
phoenix "runs across a burning bridge and falls through it, half a day after the game establishes that he is terrified of heights, because his friend is on the other side of that bridge" wright
phoenix “i sure felt surprised. maybe i had my poker face on” wright
phoenix “looking back on it that was actually a pretty dark period in my life” wright
phoenix “don’t ask me how i got started. i don’t remember” wright
phoenix “only you stood still, your eyes calmly watching” wright
phoenix “sometimes, life just sucks” wright

crunchiest man in the world
and all i wanna do is chew and chew and chew on him
#ace attorney#where are all the people gnawing on phoenix's bones so white??#i need to find the phoenix bone-gnawing corner of this fandom PLEASE#this is me asking for the Phoenix Fic btw#where is the fic meditating on phoenix's whole mental state in general?#where is the fic about how it's phoenix's cageyness and poker face and flat affect under stress that is the hurdle?#the relationship ramifications of being actually really fucking hard to read when it comes down to it?#where is the fic about the week of his disbarment?#the one detailing the panicked blow by blow of it rippling through his social circle while he stands in the eye of the storm?#the one that ends messy and anxious and unresolved because it's week 1 of 7 years?#where is the birth of phoenix wright: poker legend fic?#where is the art school/theatre major phoenix fic?#no not the able to art/act phoenix fic but the kind of person who chooses to go to art school/study theatre phoenix fic#where is the supremely disinterested in pop culture phoenix fic?#where is the actually incredibly meticulous and competent phoenix fic?#capcom can tell me all they want that he's essentially an adhd disaster flying by the seat of his pants making it all up as he goes#but that's not what they're actually showing me#they're the ones who created an in-fiction legal system that functionally necessitates that#and the nature of the game is that phoenix is almost always proven right so rather than him coming off as hare-brained#his opponents rather just come off as short-sighted. either negligently or maliciously so#and the choices the writing makes in service of retaining mystery and audience suspense in fact function to make phoenix a person#who is astute and puts the pieces together but is cautious in his conclusions#i will grant them that phoenix does tend to lose sight of his overarching goal in getting drawn into proving or disproving minor points#the fact that edgeworth on the other hand never loses sight of this or where the various arguments stand in relation to it#is his sexiest trait as a character by far#but those minor points are actually functionally critical to the ultimate argument phoenix makes#so even though i do read that trait through the game mechanics i do also judge the other characters for being dicks about it#my point is phoenix wright does in fact have the character of a lawyer and is conventionally good at his job fucking fight me#my point is that you all have had 20 goddamn years to Rotate this man#my POINT is that there should be Intricate Fucked Up Meditations On Phoenix that rewire my fucking brain and i NEED to know where they are!

this is by no means comprehensive, as this app has a skewed demographic to begin with, but I'm just trying to decide on whether this is a worthwhile topic for the women and gender studies project I'm doing.

adhd study affirmations + tips to stray from discouragement by a stem student with adhd.
you’re not always going to be consistent. you’re not always going to be motivated. you’re not always going to be efficient. and that is okay.
edit : thank you so much to whoever blazed this post. It means the world to me.
and the fact that you even got this far is an accomplishment in and of itself. In this line of work, people aren’t always the kindest to neurodivergent people especially since our symptoms can often hinder our performance academically.
if you’re good to go after reading the above, I’ve also made a post regarding adhd study tips that I haven’t seen anywhere else. (Part 2 is here!) But, if you’re burned out like me, feel free to keep reading.
honestly, these might serve a bit more as reminders because they’re kinda simple but even I needed this, so, here we go.
do not seek advice from anyone neurotypical unless it genuinely helps you. I cannot tell you the amount of time and tears I could have saved if I just considered the fact that just because popular self-improvement tips or study techniques didn’t work for me, it doesn’t mean I’m stupid or useless. It simply means our brains isn’t motivated by the same things neurotypical ones are, and therefore a lot of popular self-improvement videos or study tips aren’t going to work for you because 90% of the time, they’re not designed to work for neurodivergent people. So if you’d like to seek help in this area, look for tips and videos that ARE for neurodivergent people.
you might experience burnout a lot more than others. again, that is fine. if this doesn’t apply to you, great! Feel free to skip to the next tip/affirmation. If this does apply to you, read this carefully; if you’ve had any sort of streak in studying right now, chances are you know at least a portion of your studies were led purely on interest, curiosity or even novelty, as these are what keep us engaged in our studies. Knowing this, it is natural for you to experience burnout more frequently than others due to the possible hyperfixations that have been forming around your work. If you get burned out, please remember to take a break for a day and make sure it is efficient. Like your studies, your breaks are the key to having efficient study sessions in the future. So please treat yourself, especially if you’ve been working extra hard!
do not admire studious fictional characters unless it genuinely helps you or they too are neurodivergent. I know this technically could have been thrown in with tip number 1 but I felt like this tip alone is so important, because nowadays I see a lot of study tips with the title, ‘how to study like (insert studious fictional character here)’ and when I look at the post it kinda repeats the same few study tips I see all the time like ‘stay organized’ or ‘time block your day’ and I feel like admiring fictional characters who do things that don’t work for you can be damaging for your mental health, because we’re already told by neurotypical people all around us that we’re slow or lazy just because we don’t do things the way they do, and I think idolizing neurotypical people that make us feel bad at the end of the day just further promotes that kind of toxic thinking.
expect that a routine/schedule/technique that has been working for a while now may not continue to work in the future. things will always have to be new for us to be interested or engaged, that being said, if you expect this in the future you won’t be frustrated with yourself because you already had this in mind. It doesn’t mean you’re not smart. It doesn’t mean you’re lazy. It doesn’t mean you’re useless. It just means that you’ve done what you could, and now it’s time to move on to another routine/schedule/technique.
keep doing the things you love alongside work. I find that because our symptoms may cause us to fall behind on our studies, we tend to neglect our other needs as human beings just to make up for the fact that we simply do not learn or pick things up the same way neurotypical people do. Your hobbies and interests need to be part of your day, just as your studies do, even if you may take longer to learn things or remember important concepts in your studies. Neglecting your hobbies or interests can lead to even more frequent burn outs and even a relapse in depression and anxiety, so please take care of yourself and recognize that you need and deserve these things just as much as anyone else.
regularly discover what works for you on your own. here’s the thing; neurodivergent or not, no two brains work the same. Of course it is good to try out advice or tips you find online because they’re backed up by experience, but they’re backed up by that person’s experience with working with their own brain. So naturally, you need to find what works with your brain. Be open to trying everything, even the tips that are discouraged like listening to lyrical music while studying. That was the only way I learnt that this tip actually does help me at times, even when many people have said that it negatively affects your focus.
that’s all I have right now guys, I think I’m experiencing burn out or probably falling back into depression again so more than anything this also served as a reminder for me, but I really hope it also helped you guys nonetheless.
As always, tell me if you guys would like more posts like these and I’ll be happy to make more <33 please take care of yourself guys, and remember that your studies is just one aspect of your life. There are other aspects that need your care and attention too.
