You don't have to do your absolute best every single day to be loved. You don't have to exhaust 100% of your energy every day and get everything done that's on your to-do list. You're allowed to rest and have days off and do fun things to recharge. Your worth is not measured by the ammount of work you do.

the concept of talent is very overrated & even unrealistic at times!!! where is the shame in not being naturally good at something? all throughout middle and high school i used to be made fun of because i didn’t grasp the concepts of math and physics as much as my peers. that stopped me from pursuing a major i really wanted for the longest time. when i gave myself a chance, i found out that effort, curiosity and consistency matters more than talent itself. talented people may overestimate their abilities and lack in dedication. you don’t have to be naturally gifted at things!!! you can start out horribly clueless and learn from there!!!! that is a sign you can expand your knowledge in a different area!!! it takes humility & courage to acknowledge you’re bad at something and keep going regardless!!!!!

the forgetting curve + why spaced repetition is super important
although cramming before exams seems tempting, it doesn't actually help you learn. here's some information about the forgetting curve, and how you can use it to your advantage. check out my blog for the full article!

what i've learned from one year in uni
...as a humanities student focussing on languages and history.
do all your readings at least a week in advance. honestly a lifesaver. make a list of the readings you'll need to have done for the next week and divvy them up along the current week.
annotate your readings. either by hand, or download them, import to a pdf annotation app (or just google drive) and make comments/highlight important parts,
don't sign up for early or late classes, especially if you're a commuter. i signed up for a 9-11 AM class and a 6-8 PM class and they were both hell even if I enjoyed the material. Don't do it.
join the class group chat. if there isn't one, make one. you might not think you need it, but you do, you really do.
if you can't get yourself to do the whole reading, read the first sentence of every paragraph. listen, we've all been there when the reading is 36 pages and you're just not feeling it. most well-written academic articles start with a topic sentence that will give you a sense of the general direction of the work, so skimming the first sentence of each paragraph can actually equip you better than nothing for your discussions.
the syllabus is your bible. read it THOROUGHLY at the beginning of term and reference it CONSTANTLY.
skip lectures. NEVER skip tutorials. it's better to not skip lectures either but sometimes they're just not helpful. but ALWAYS go to tutorial.
find out your task capacity and worship it. i can't allocate myself a certain number of hours of work a day because sometimes i can work for 10 hours and sometimes i can barely focus for two. however, i can generally manage around 5 academic tasks a day. so I'll allocate myself two readings, an outline, a draft and a note-taking session and that works pretty well for me.

self care is also being honest with yourself about your negative habits and mistakes. it’s also taking ownership of your faults and growing from them. self care is diverting from a negative space to a positive one. creating light and balance. blooming. watering your own flowers. being gentle but honest with yourself.
so take care.

drinking a can of soda is better than not drinking anything at all. “junk” food is better than no food at all. just rinsing your mouth out with mouthwash is better than no oral hygiene at all. changing into a different set of pyjamas is better than not changing at all. getting up just to sit down on the chair across the room for a bit is better than not getting up at all. changing just your pillowcase is better than not changing your bedding at all. cracking a window open is better than getting no fresh air at all.
if you don’t have enough spoons for full tasks, smaller adaptations are better than nothing at all. it’s okay if you don’t have the energy to actively fight today. just staying afloat is enough. you are enough.

almost all studying tips I see are not adhd friendly so here's a couple I personally use that may or may not work for yall depending on situations:
listen to music with headphones/earbuds at whatever tempo you know is easy for you to tune out. I prefer fast music with heavy bass
instead of remove distractions I sit in the living room with the tv on low volume as background motion so other activity wont randomly grab my attention
keep a drink and snack on hand so you wont have to get up to get one later
have someone in the room who you ask to only talk to you if you talk to them about your study topic first. have them direct you back to it if you stray away
GET COMFORTABLE. you dont have to be at a desk ffs the discomfort will distract you more
keep a notebook and pen on hand. physically writing my notes instead of typing helps me remember better
if you take meds make sure to do so well over an hour beforehand
if you have pets make sure theyre well entertained beforehand as I know my dogs seeking attention is a big distraction for me
if youre at home make sure to let everyone know that this time period is only for studying and that you will not be available for anything else. do so a couple days in advance and verbally remind them every day until

A reminder that all the best people were once beginners. If you want to become really good at something, keep practicing even when you don’t see progress immediately. You can’t see it, but you’re improving a little bit every time you practice. Keep going and one day you’ll be amazing at it.
