I do love writing Aaron Hotchner x child readers.
Lots of angst in this one like usual
Third person pov...
They were supposed to be safe from Foyet. Haley, Jack and 12 year old Y/N where in witness protection, Y/N was out with her Mum and Brother.
Jack and Y/N are walking together when Haleys phone goes off, stopping she gasps making Y/N look up at her Mum worried. "What's wrong mum?" She asks, Haley looks down at her daughter and tries not to cry.
She couldn't tell her kids their dad was dead. She smiles at her ans brushes her hair off her forehead. "Nothing sweetie but we have to get home quickly" she tells her daughter, the three get back to their car and drive home.
Once they get to their own home Haley sends Jack and Y/N off to play in the living room while she waits for the new marshal to appear.
Aftwr a couple of minutes Y/N stood up to go to the bathroom, as she left the door bell went, Haley answered it and in came George Foyet.
Y/N had begged her dad to show her what Foyet looked like just incase before they went into witness protection.
As Y/N walked back to the living room she heard a man's voice, she didn't recognise it. Tiptoeing silently towards the door she looked through a crack in it and gasps at the man.
"Foyet" she whispers to herself, the killer was currently playing with her little brother while her mum stood infront of them. Haley makes eye contact with her daughter.
She shakes her head slightly, telling her daughter to stay out of the living room, Y/N nods and hears her mum talk to someone on the phone.
"Aaron your okay?" Gaps Haley, Y/N eyes widened it was her Dad. Her parents talk a while with Foyet looking over at them a couple times.
"Haley, are Y/N and Jack there?" He asks
"Yes, Aaron what is going on?" Asks Haley, Hotch hesitates "hes Foyet, he's there to kill you, I'm sorry I couldn't stop him Haley" Says Hotch voice full of emotion.
Haley holds back her tears as Aaron tell Jack to 'work the case with him' Jack leaves the room running into Y/N who helps him hide before going back to her mum.
On her way back downstairs she goes into the kicken and grabs one of the big kichen knifes, hiding it in her waistband the 13 year old goes to the living room.
Suddenly three gunshots are heard, Y/Ns eyes widen with horror she runs back downstairs into living room and slams the door open forgetting about Foyet.
She cries with anguish as she spots her mum on the floor lifeless. "Mum! No nono you can't die no Mummy!" She cries hugging the body tightly.
The phone next to her is silent, the team had beeb listening into it, Hotch hates how sad his daughters voice sounds through the phone.
As she hugs her mum she feels a tap on the shoudler, wide eyed she jumps back away from her mum and away from tjr killer.
"Well well well, what have we here Hotchs daughter, cute thing you are" he tells the girl, shaking in fear Y/N stands up facing the man.
"You killed her you bastard!" She screams tears rolling down her eyes as she watched the sick basterd smirk at her. "I did, you and your brother will be next!" He yells before trying to grab her.
Y/N ducks and moves towards the door, she had to keep him downstairs. Turning around she looks for something to throw and remembers the knife in her waistband.
Holding it put at arms length she keeps the man infront of her. "You wknt find him I won't let you" she tells the man, Foyet on smirks and walks towards the teen.
Suddenly Y/N wakes up screaming murder, she whips her head around the dark room still screaming. Legs tangled in thr sheets the young girl desperately tries to stand up and run.
Her door is then opened and the light switched on, standing in the doorway was her Dad. Seeing his daughter crying and panicking he jumps into action.
He makes sure she sees its him before moving towards the 14 year old, it had been 2 year since the death of her mum and facing the reaper.
Every night she gets horrible vivid night terrors of that day, she hasn't be able to sleep since. Hotch begins to comfort his distraught daughter.
The man runs over to his daughter and sits on the bed holding his daughters hands tightly in his giving her pressure to help ground her.
"N/N its me its Dad, your safe remember the reaper is dead, he can't hurt you anymore." He tells the girl, Y/N shakes her head and cries in his arms.
Holding her tightly he's reminded of that day...
It wasn't until half an hour later when he arrived at his own home, dread filled his heart as walked inside to see his exwife shot.
Suddenly the sounds of grunting and screaming could be hear, the man sprint off if the direction and sees his daughter fighting for her life against Foyet.
"Y/N!" He yells emptying his clip into Foyet, when he was down Y/N leaps into her Dads arms and cries she cries and cries and cries.
It took a while for her to be okay and let go of her Dad, after that she was taken out of school for a few months to recover and started seeing a shrink.
Since then Y/N hadn't been the same, rocking back and forth Hotch rubs a comforting hand up his daughter back.
Slowly her breathing returned to normal and she could breath again. "Dad?" She calls, Hotch hums and continues comforting her. "C-can I sleep with you tonight?" She asks
Hotch kisses he forehead. "Of course you can sweetie" he whispers before picking her up and wrapping her in her blankets, they then leave her room Hotch turns off thr light and walk to his room.
As they do they walk past Jack's room, Hotch was lucky Jack had been staying with Jessica while he looked after Y/N, he didn't want him to have to listen to her screaming all night.
When they got to his room he pulled back the coverd and tucked his little girl in before getting in beside her, once he was under the covers Y/N curls up against her dad and falls into a finally restful sleep.
Smiling softly Hotch wishes her good night and falls into a dreamless sleep.
The end!
Hope you liked this oenshot, so sorry for the wait, as usual sorry for any grammar and Spelling mistakes!

It happened by accident. That’s what you keep telling yourself as you sit across from Hotch at dinner later that night. The rest of the team are stuffing their faces after a long day. A long week really. But you and Hotch just pick at your food, your stomach rolling from the thought of what transpired between the two of you just a couple of hours ago.
You were vulnerable, and so was he. You’d almost died right in front of him, the bullet sinking into the concert just a mere inch from your head. And when you got back to your shared hotel room, you broke down and he held you, kissed the top of your head, murmured the sweetest things. You looked up at him, something new and intense brewing in your eyes, and when your finger traced over his bottom lip, he pressed you into the wall his lips on yours. One thing led to another and before you knew it, you were laying in a post-coital glow with your boss, the rest of the adrenaline in your body finally dissipating.
You both would have laid like that for hours if your phones hadn’t buzzed with the promise of dinner plans from the team group chat. It snapped you back into reality and you’d flown into the bathroom without so much as a word, scrubbing off the shame dutifully. It hurt, your skin was raw and young from all the washing. Your heart ached because what happened felt so right, even as you thought about how wrong it was.
That’s how you end up here, looking down at your chicken and picking at it, Hotch’s eyes burning into you. Your body is tense but your mind floats, far away from the scene you sit at here. Dinner is over in the blink of an eye, and soon you’re all headed to the jet to go home.
Weeks go by. Months pass. All you can do is avoid Hotch the best you can. He gets the hint early on, leaving you be. You figure that he’s just as embarrassed about what happened in that room as you are, that he hasn’t pushed or brought it because of his own shame, but you’re wrong.
He misses you. The taste of you, the feel of your skin, the softness of your scent. The thought of you drives him wild, the work day even more of an uphill battle as he tries to focus on everything but you. Nights are the worst. If he closes his eyes and succumbs to the thoughts of you, it’s like he can feel you. If he falls asleep with you on his mind, which is a routine occurrence, he dreams vividly about you. One dream is so clear, so delicate, and forthcoming that when he wakes up he feels tilted off his axis like the entire world is shifted. He knows he can’t keep doing this.
“You wanted to see me, sir,” You murmur stiffly, regarding him with wary eyes.
It’s the next evening after his dream, and he’s been working up the courage to talk to you all day.
He runs his thumbs over his fingers, eyes shifting around the room, “Have a seat, please, there’s something we need to discuss.”
You shake your head, as you take a seat across from him, “I thought we were both gonna let it go.”
“I was planning to.”
“And?
His cheeks flush, his tongue flicking over his bottom lip, “If I’m being completely honest, I can’t stop thinking about you. About us.”
“There is no us,” You say matter of factly but he sees you flinch ever so slightly, can hear the undercurrent of pain lancing through your voice.
“I know. But I can’t stop thinking that there could be.”
“There are rules and protocols, not to mention reputations. The gossip alone-“
“If none of that existed.”
“It does,” You answer quickly and he can’t help but smile at your stubbornness.
“But if it didn’t…” He prompts again.
“If it didn’t then yes, I wouldn’t stop thinking about us either,” It feels good to say it, to acknowledge that whatever happened between you that night is something to covet.
Hotch’s smile widens at your words, “The rules allow it. Strauss would never stop glaring at me about it, but that’s nothing new. You would have to report to Dave. The team would support us.”
“You’re saying-“
“I’m saying I want you.”
Your mouth drops open at his forwardness. If there’s one thing you never expected it would be that Hotch was in favor of continuing what happened between you that night. But here he is, looking at you with so much patience and longing that you can barely maintain eye contact. There isn’t much you can say other than your own version of yes.
Standing from your seat you hold out your hand to him, “Will you take me home, Aaron?”
If he keeps smiling this hard his cheeks will split open, but he can’t find the mind to care, “Of course, honey.”
if you’d like to be on my hotch taglist, let me know!

we have a new case
Tumblr media
*WARNING*
this story has mentions of abusive relationship, and brief description of the victim.season 11 reid,mentions of tobias hankel, dilaudid & Maeve Donovan in some chapters.18+.please do not read if any of this bother/upsets you.
it was January 22ed and spencer and the team had a new case.
"ok my friends this photo here is of 24-year-old amber moore in LA, she was beaten up and choked by her ex-boyfriend josh van-camp 25, he is on the lose so it's you who is going to catch him".
" how could someone who said he would love you forever do something like this?"morgan asks shaking his head.
"i don't know, but we are going to find out, wheels up in 30" hotch tells the team heading for the door.
on the jet.
" so the apartment is amber's?" JJ asks.
"yes, she kicked the ex out, and he came back and did this" prentiss answers showing a photo of amber in the E.R.
"hey pretty boy, you have been quite, what's going on?" morgan asks.
"i feel the same as you, how could a boyfriend do something like this?, it’s horrible" reid answers looking at the photos.
"ex-boyfriend" JJ corrected him.
"still your right morgan, he probably told her he was going to love her forever and this is what he did, this isn't love" reid say holding tightly to the photo of amber moore.
"why is this bothering you so much reid?" rossi asks putting his file down.
"i don't...i don't know there is something about it that just upsets me so much" reid sighs.
"we see stuff like this all the time reid, it's part of the job, in fact we have seen a lot worse" prentiss tells him.
reid looks up at her.
"i'm not saying this isn't bad, i'm just saying we have seen this kind of thing before" prentiss corrects herself.
"i know we have, and don't you ever feel like it's wrong? the way people treat other people?, how they can just do something like this and walk away?" he asks her holding up the photo of amber in the ER.
prentiss looks around the jet.
"y..yes i do, but without it we wouldn't have a job reid"
"yeah well there are other jobs" reid huffs.
everyone goes back to their files not wanting to make him any angrier.
the team lands in LA.
in the police station.
"hi i am officer Mark Peterson i am the head of this station" a man in a dark blue suit tells the team, as he puts his hand out to shake.
"hello i am aaron hothner this is dave rossi, emliy prentiss and doctor spencer reid"
"nice to meet you all" officer peterson shanks everyone's hand till reid.
"i don't shake hands sorry"
"o..k" the officer smiles as his eyes dart around the room.
"Where is the hospital amber moore is in?" reid asks.
"it's right down the road" officer Peterson answers.
"ok, i would like to go there" says with anger.
"why?" hotch asks with his hotch stare
"i just want to talk to her" reid huffs.
"ok, take morgan with you"
at the hospital.
reid and morgan go to room 37 and talk to amber moore.
they both walk into the room, amber is lying in bed with bandages in her head and one on her hand, her left eye is purple, and her lip is cut.
"hello i'm docter spencer reid and this is derek morgan"
"you are much better looking than the doctor i had before" amber says weakly.
morgan smiles.
"oh, no i'm not that kind of doctor i am in the F.B.I, we are here because we are looking for the man that did this to you"
"i know who did this to me" amber said softly.
"we do to, we are trying to find him" reid tells her.
"do you know where we can find him" morgan asks gently.
amber freezes, her heart rate going up: "n.....no i don't"
"are you ok?" reid asks.
"i....i'm just scared"
"of morgan?"
"yes"
"i am with the F.B.I as well i am trying to help you same as reid"
"i know it's just..i'm scared"
"ok, ok calm down i will wait in the hall" morgan tells her backing out of the room into the hallway.
after reid talks to amber for a little bit reid and morgen leave the hospital.
in the car.
"i think amber was scared because you are an alfa male josh most likely is one as well" reid tells morgan.
"we will add that to our profile, we need to find this guy, somebody somewhere knows where this guy is" morgan adds.
reid and morgan are driving back to the police station and moragn calls the team.
"hotch we need to find out who is hiding this guy". morgan says over the phone.
"did you get anything from amber?" hotch asks.
"not much, she was afraid of morgan" reid adds
"why?" jj asks over the phone
"i think it's because morgan is an alpha male, so i am thinking so was josh" reid tells the team.
"was she afraid of you?" jj asks reid.
"no, she seemed clam talking to me" reid answers
"you could be on to something their kid, if josh was an alpha male, she would act that way to morgan" rossi says
"why would anyone want to help this man?" prentiss asks
"Loyalty he could have a partner; they would hide him" hotch adds
"well we need to find this son of a bitch, we don't know he won't hurt amber again" morgan says
"is she still in the hospital?" rossi asks
"yes" reid answers
"that might keep her safe for now"
"i hope so" reid says softly.
after reid and morgan return to the station they are talking to the team.
"why are you so upset about this case reid?, we see bad stuff all the time" JJ asks
"i don't know there is just something about amber, i don't know what it is" reid answers looking at a pic of amber in Happer times, she is smiling, she has a pretty silver dress on, it looks like a new years eve party.
" maybe you can relate to her?" jj says
"how?" reid asks, with a bit of anger.
"i don't know being Afred of someone or something you can't control" jj answers
"like how my dad and gideon just left me with nothing but a note?, or when i was kidnapped by tobias hankel" reid says with anger and a bit louder than he meant to.
"reid i didn't mean anything bad by saying that, i'm just trying to understand why this case, of all the cases we have is bothering you so much" jj tells him.
"what's bothering me is that this man, the man that did this is still out there and all of you seem more interested in finding out why i am so upset about it, then you are in trying to find him"
"we do care about finding him reid" rossi tells him.
"we are going to give the profile, did you get a picture of josh?" hotch asks reid
"no" morgan answers
"i'll call garcia" hotch says as he takes out his phone.
"tell me what you want, and how you want it" garcia answers the call
"garcia it's hotch"
"oh sorry, what do you need boss man?"
"we are looking for a man named josh van-camp, can you get a picture of him?"
"oh sir i give everyone a pic of him in the files" garcia tells him.
"i know but we need a newer one, can you find one?"
"oh yes i can, i am sending it to you now"
reid looking at the picture: "so this is josh van-camp?"
"are you ready to find him pretty boy?" morgan asks reid
"yes i am" he answers looking at the photo of the man that hurt amber with disgust.
"lets go put these photos out and see if anyone can tell us were to find him" rossi says taking a hand full of photos.
reid just stands there looking at this piece of crap in the photo.
"reid, are you ok?" hotch asks.
"yeah i um, yeah i'm fine" reid tells him.
"are you sure?" hotch asks with the hotch stare.
"i just want to find this guy" reid says picking up the photos and his bag.
reid, rossi and prentiss head out to pass the photos around and see if anyone knows josh.
"so no one has seen him?" hotch asks rossi over the phone.
"it does seem so" rossi answers
"so do you want to talk about it?" prentiss asks reid.
"talk about want?"
"why this case is bothering you so much?, i can see it, the whole team can"
"it's a bad case prentiss, how can it not bother you?" reid asks.
"it does, but reid we see stuff like this all the time"
"i don't know what to tell you emily, i am fine"
reid's phone rings
"hello?"
"we need to give the profile" hotch tells reid.
they all go back and give the profile
"we are looking for a 25-year-old male, with black hair and green eyes, he has a tattoo of a rattle snake on his right bicep" hotch tells the officers.
"this is in attempt to make it look tough but he's really just a coward" reid adds
"in fact when we find him, he will be a wuss, a man that beats up his beautiful girlfriend because he knows she can't fight back, he couldn't ever handle a real man because they would fight back" reid keeps talking.
the teams eyes widen.
"we don't know that for sure, we can only tell you what we think you are looking for, here are some photos of josh van-camp, this is the man you are looking for" hotch tells the room.
"in the mean time we will have one of our agents staying with amber" reid tells the room.
"thank you, we will let you know if there is anything else" hotch tells the room.
"oh morgan you will be the first one to stay with amber" hotch tells morgan.
"what!! no!!! amber is afraid of morgan" reid says with anger.
"well someone needs to stay with her ried" hotch says.
"i can do it, she feels safe with me, so i will stay with her, the team can do just fine without me" reid says grabbing his bag.
"reid, you want to stay there with amber and not help the team?" hotch asks.
"i am helping the team by staying with her, the team wouldn't have morgan and you were fine with that" reid adds.
"fine reid will be watching amber" hotch says.
"thank you" reid huffs and storms out of the station.
"hotch is he back on dilaudid?" JJ asks.
"i don't think so, he is just angry, but i will keep an eye on him" hotch says.

chapter 4 / chapter 6
-----
You were hyper-aware of the new way the team was looking at you as you entered the conference room. You shot a very anxious glance up towards Aaron, grateful for the very brief- but soft- glance he gave you before the business side of him took over again. You could feel the ghost of his hand hovering over that protective spot on your back again as he led you up towards the table.
It felt like your eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets, upon seeing the seemingly endless piles of photos in front of you. Your brain was struggling to process everything that was laid out in front of you and you felt your heart rate start to pick up; seeing it in person was worse than anything your mind had created in the drive here.
“Y/N.”
Your eyes shot up to meet the voice and you saw Spencer looking down at you with a look that was just on the edge of pity. “We tried to sort the pictures into piles of time relativity. Would you be able to go through them and help us create a firmer timeline?”
You nodded at that, vaguely aware of Aaron pulling a chair out behind you. You gladly slid down into it. Seeing Emily start to pick up one pile and push them towards you made you nervously laugh, the stress of the moment and how uncomfortable you felt forcing it out. When the entire team gave you a weird look you said, “Sorry, it just reminded me of last time.”
You gently picked up the stack of photos, trying to hold them as lightly as possible. The knowledge that the unsub had packaged these himself sent a shiver down your spine. You knew it was silly, but you somehow felt that by touching the photos you were somehow also touching the remnants of the unsub.
The first stack you easily dated as around four years ago, just from your hair; you’d drastically changed it for a role. You thumbed through the photos and could feel the knots in your stomach growing even tighter. Most of the photos were blurry and relatively distant from you, as if the unsub was still getting comfortable with what he was doing.
“This was four years ago, I had to change my hair for a role and I’ve never had it like that before or again.” You said quietly, pushing the pile back to Emily.
She nodded, giving you a gracious smile before pushing the next pile towards you. Your face fell immediately; something the team equated to how much more personal these set of photos seemed to be. You fanned the stack out in front of you. There weren’t many, as if even the unsub could recognize the inappropriate- ha!- nature of capturing you like this. In all of them you looked worn down, as if a cloud was following you everywhere you went.
“This was about two years ago.” You said flatly. It took a moment, but you could see everyone connect the dots in their head and suddenly the room felt very small.
Thankfully, the next pile was rather average and you guessed that this was just an ‘extra’ pile of photos that didn’t really seem to fit into a cohesive timeframe. As you scanned over them, one caught your eye and you pulled it a bit closer to you. You pointed a finger at the sign behind you.
“This is an exclusive club house, it’s difficult to get into. Security’s intense and everyone that enters has to sign in.” You informed the team. JJ reached out and grabbed the photo, putting it to the side for later.
You turned your attention back to the pile, making sure to give each photo a proper amount of attention, desperate to notice something useful.
“This one,” you said, pulling a blurry photo of yourself out of the pile. You were moving too fast for the camera to properly capture you, but you recognized the outfit. “I was wearing this the day Officer Reynolds told me you all were coming, isn’t this the outside of the station?” You said quietly.
JJ moved that photo to the ‘save for later’ pile as well. You gently re-stacked the pile and passed it towards Emily, waiting for the next one.
You watched as Emily seemed to be literally holding her tongue as she pushed the next pile towards you, a certain playful glint in her eyes. Once you were able to look at it, you couldn’t help but snort. You could feel Aaron tense up besides you, but you could find the humor in it. The ‘Aaron’ pile.
You fanned the stack out like you had done with the others, giving special attention to the details behind you. These were much more difficult to place and a much smaller pile, considering how careful the two of you had been.
“These must’ve been in DC?” You questioned, not really expecting an answer. You looked up towards Aaron, raising an eyebrow as if to give him the opportunity to share his thoughts. “Whenever he came to LA, I had an iron grip on our security but it was a whole different field in DC-”
Your sentence fell flat as your eyes went wide, nearly surging out of your seat up towards Aaron. He gave you a worried look, unable to place the sudden anxiety that had taken over you. “What about Jack?” You asked worriedly, “if he knows about you he must’ve found out about Ja-”
Aaron stopped you, putting a very gentle hand on the top of your shoulder, “He’s okay, I promise.” He said, using his hand to lightly push you back into a seated position. You nodded at that, eyes still wide, but your body seemed to deflate, the tension slowly leaving you.
The rest of the team was quiet, recognizing the personal nature of the interaction. But it was impossible for them not to notice the way your bodies reacted to each other. The way your body’s natural response to a stressor had been to move closer to him and the way he angled himself in a protective stance around you near simultaneously.
Emily pushed the final pile in front of you and you couldn’t help the corners of your lips pull up in a soft smile. You fanned out the stack of photos, taking a good look at all of them. They all seemed to either be promo photos or film photos of your time filming Mamma Mia in Greece.
“This is definitely from Greece. But some of these are definitely promo photos, it’s why I’m ‘posing’ in a few of them.” You said, pushing out one that visually made your point.
“What about this one? It feels a lot more intimate than a promotional piece.” Emily asked, pulling one out from the stack. In it, you were standing on the dock, face close to the camera. You had a big smile on your face and your thumbs up.
“On set, we had a handful of little disposable cameras that everyone could use.”
“Do you have any memory of who owned the cameras?”
“I…,” you paused, eyebrows scrunched tightly in thought, “I don’t know. The studio distributed all the photos after the movie came out. They’re pretty public at this point, it was five years ago.” You said weakly, feeling really disappointed in your lack of help. “I’m sorry.” You added.
Morgan stepped up closer to the table. “Don’t be okay? Now we know that the unsub has connections in Hollywood and we know he must be wealthy enough to fly to DC on a whim if he thought you were there. That helps narrow things down.” He assured you.
“Are there any specific photographers that you’ve noticed? Or any guy you feel like you’ve seen too many times and it’s no longer a coincidence?” Spencer asked.
You shook your head quickly. “I’m really used to cameras flashing in my face.” You said impishly. “I can remember a lot of fans that I meet, but if it’s just someone behind a camera I don’t think I’d really notice it at all.”
You felt Aaron move away from you and towards the computer at the end of the table. He clicked a few buttons and suddenly a woman's face popped up on the screen. You recognized her immediately from all the stories and photos you’d seen. Penelope.
Aaron brought the computer closer to where you were and her mouth dropped open for the second time today.
“Oh my god! Hi! Wow! I am, I am such a fan. I just-, you’re always so-”
“Garcia.” Aaron interjected but you raised your hand at him, giving him a ‘shoo’ gesture. The rest of the team had to stifle their laughter.
“Hi, Penelope right? I’ve heard so much about you.” You said sweetly, leaning a bit closer to the camera.
“Wow! Okay, I can’t believe this is-”
“Garcia, I need you to pull up visitor logs from a clubhouse that Y/N used to visit. I want you to cross reference it with other visitor logs of recent film sets she’s been on and her housing development. She’ll be able to give you a more comprehensive list.” Aaron interjected, and this time you let him.
You turned back to the screen, giving Garcia another smile. “The clubhouse is called Royal Blue, the picture couldn’t have been more than…, I think three years ago? But I’m not sure.”
“Alright…, okay the visitor logs seem to be locked tight, but never too tight for me. What are some of those movie sets?”
“The earliest photo is what? Five years ago?” You asked, looking around at the agents for approval. “Yeah, five years. So Mamma Mia, to start, Little Women. I’m working on Emma right now.” You droned, listing various movie sets you’d worked on in the past five years.
“Oh my god! I have so many questions about Mamma Mia. Like what was it-,” Garcia’s question trailed off as she caught sight of Hotch giving her a firm stare from behind you. “Right sorry, alright. I will break into the clubhouse and cross reference all of these lists to see if anyone comes up more than once. It was so nice meeting you, I hope we get to-. Alright, hanging up now!” Garcia said in a rushed voice. You watched her click a button on her end and the screen went black.
You leaned back into your chair, staring up at the rest of the team . “So…,” you said, drawing out the word, “what now?”
-----
“What are you doing?” Aaron’s asked, voice coming out from behind you.
You comically froze, hand just short of picking your keys up from the table. You slowly turned to face him, straightening your tote bag over your shoulder. “Oh! There you are, I was just on my way to come find you.” You said lightly, trying to diffuse some of the tension in the room. Aaron didn’t say anything, waiting for you to go on. “Johnny and I have plans tonight.” You said, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world
On your part, you’d already forgotten about the whole ‘I’m on a date’ aspect on your earlier phone call with Aaron. In your mind, there wasn’t anything inherently suspicious about you going to spend time with him in the evening.
Aaron was viewing the entire situation in a very different light. When he had first come around the corner, he noticed how nice you looked. When the two of you had finally returned to your place you immediately went up to your room, disappearing for quite some time. He had originally thought maybe you were upset, the cognitive interview hadn’t revealed anything and even though he knew you didn’t really believe in their accuracy, he also knew how badly you wanted to be of ‘use’ for the case.
In your time upstairs, you had changed your outfit and styled your hair just enough to give it that ‘unstyled-styled’ look. It’s not like you were glammed out or anything, the only reason you’d put on a nice outfit was on the off chance you were photographed- hopefully not by the unsub-, on your way into Johnny’s apartment.
“And what is it that you’re supposed to be doing?” Aaron asked, trying to keep his voice as nonchalant as possible.
“Um, nothing much,” You said with an awkward laugh, when he was still looking at you expectantly you tilted your head. “I’m supposed to go to his place and we’re gonna run lines for the scenes we’re filming this week.” You explained.
“I can’t endorse you going out at night. Especially to someone’s home that we don’t have eyes on.” Aaron said firmly.
You rolled your eyes at that, picking up your keys. “Johnny’s fine, he’s been in the same place as me when nearly all the bodies were discovered.” You argued, putting one hand on your hip.
“With the recent development in the cases, I can’t let you do this.”
You started to walk towards him, intending to go around him. “Aaron-”
His hand shot out and gently grabbed you by the arm, stopping you from getting past him.
“Hey!-”
“Please,” he said, staring you straight in the eyes. “Don’t go.”
Your mouth fell open slightly in a mild form of shock. ‘We’re just running lines, I really need-”
“I’ll do it with you.” Aaron interjected hurriedly. “We’ve done it before, I’m not too bad at it, huh?” He said teasingly.
You pondered that for a minute. You and Aaron had run lines together plenty of times in the past, it was always something you got a kick out of, seeing Aaron try and morph into whatever character he was reading for. And while it wouldn’t be as productive as running them with your actual co-star, you reasoned it’d still be good enough. And as much as you hated to admit it, Aaron probably had a point about you not going out, especially in the evening.
“Fine. I just need to go call Johnny and tell him something came up.” You huffed, pretending to be more annoyed than you were.
“Here,” you said, reaching into your bag and pulling out your script, “I already have most of my lines memorized, I’ll just need you to fill in if I miss any. I have a pink sticky note denoting the scene we were going to start with. You’re reading as Knightely. I’ll meet you in the living room, alright?” You said, pushing the script into his hands as you walked around him towards the kitchen, pulling your phone out at the same time.
----
“No, I’m just saying I think it’d be more believable or whatever if we did a few more like nonchalant meals before like, running errands together or something, ya know?” You said lazily into the phone, holding it between your ear and shoulder as you used your hands to mix up a drink for yourself. Out of the corner of your eye you caught sight of the Dalmore. You reached out with one hand and carefully pulled it down, still remembering exactly how Aaron liked to take a drink.
“What meal really screams ‘we’re dating’? Dinner? That’s like the longest meal of the day, that’s gotta show some sort of commitment.” Johnny asked.
“Hm…,” you droned, “well we just had a lunch. If we want to kick it into high gear, we should do breakfast. Perfect ‘just spent the night’ remedy.” You said with a snort.
Aaron cleared his throat behind you and the sound made you jump. You pulled the phone away from your ear and saw you’d been blabbering for nearly half an hour.
‘Oh. Sorry.’ You mouthed to Aaron, before pulling the phone back to your ear. “Hey Johnny gotta go, but we’ll figure it out later! Yeah…, for sure, bye!” You hung up and placed your phone on the counter. Then you grabbed the drink you had poured for him, holding it out.
“It’s Dalmore.” You said plainly.
“I’m working.” He responded.
You rolled your eyes at that and held it out more aggressively. “Take it.”
You watched happily as he begrudgingly took it out of your hand, though you knew it wasn’t too difficult for him. You picked up your own glass and tucked your phone into the waistband of your pants. “Ready? Sorry, got carried away.”
While the two of you walked back into your living room, it was obvious something was bothering Aaron. You briefly wondered if something had developed in the case that he wasn’t telling you.
‘What is it?” You asked.
He looked down at you, confused. “What is what?”
“Don’t play dumb, you have a tell.”  You explained, stopping to look up at him.
“I do not have a tell.” Hotch replied annoyedly.
“Yes you do.”
“No, I don’t.”
“If you want to be a baby about it, fine you don’t have a tell. Tell me what’s wrong anyway.”
“I’m trying to understand why you lied about not having a boyfriend nor seeing anyone recently. We’ll need to fully vet Johnny and look into his files, even if you don’t see it becoming serious.” Aaron near spat.
You snorted. “What do you mean lied?”
“You very clearly told me you weren’t seeing anyone, yet today has proven those claims to be false.”
“I know that sometimes, I like to be a huge pain but I’m serious, what are you talking about? I’m not seeing anyone.”
“Your co-star, Johnny? You told me you were on a date with him today. I just heard you on the phone make plans to stay with him overnight. I saw the pictures of-”
“Stop! Oh my god, I can’t believe you actually believed that.” You said, unable to hold back the laughter that bubbled out of you.
“Believed it? You’re the only who told me!”
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry I shouldn’t have assumed you read through the lines. Johnny and I have been going on publicity dates. We’re just friends.”
“What were you supposed to be doing tonight then?”
“We were legitimately going to run lines. Maybe get ice cream, we’re trying to determine the best ice cream in LA.”
That’d explain the outfit, Aaron thought.
“And the phone call I just heard?”
“We were debating which meal screams ‘dating’. He thinks it’s dinner. I think it’s breakfast, ya know, cause it implies you spent the night.”
“Why didn’t you tell me that, before.”
“Don’t you remember when I had kinda the same thing with Timothee during Little Women? They made us hang out a bunch so the tabloids could just do their thing. I just assumed you’d fill in the blanks.”
Aaron was staring at you as if you had two heads. It was almost like you could see the gears turning in that head of his. Internally, he was more than embarrassed for how upset he’d gotten over the idea of you with someone else.
When it seemed that Aaron had nothing else to say, you started to walk again, not stopping until you were both back in your living room. You plopped down in ‘your spot’ on the couch, playfully patting the space a few cushions down that Aaron typically sat in.
“Crack open that script, I hope you looked through it. If you’re making me stay home, you better be useful!” You said pleasantly, trying to change the atmosphere into something more playful.
Aaron awkwardly sat himself down on the couch next to you, picking the script back up. As you watched him flip the script open and further acquaint himself with the lines you couldn’t help but feel a sharp pang in your chest. It was such an unavoidable reminder of the way the two of you used to run lines together when you were still dating. You had learned early on that Aaron best showed his affection through acts of service and he actually wasn’t that bad at delivering a line. Since the two of you were rarely together in person- it’s not like you’d let him waste a visit with you building a shelf or running an errand-, running lines with you was the easiest way for him to feel useful.
-----
Four Years Ago
“Okay Jack, you ready?” You asked, smiling down at the young boy standing across from you. He was dressed up in his winter clothes, despite the blazing heat of the summer. You and Aaron had tried to talk him out of it, but he demanded it’d be the only way for him to fully get into character. And who were you two to deny him? The sweet boy nodded, barely being able to contain his excitement as he bounced up and down on his feet.
“Alright, places everyone!” You yelled out, holding the diy paper clapperboard Jack had made for you. You held it out from your body and did a very exaggerated clapping motion. “Action!” You said, quickly throwing the clapperboard to the couch.
“Carrots!” Jack said, his voice more than enthusiastic for the role.
“Huh?” You said, heavily overselling your voice and reaction. Even with the one simple word, Jack was already in giggles, struggling to keep it together.
He leaned in closer to you, standing up on his tiptoes. “Behind you!”
“Oh! Right, excuse me.” You said, stepping to the side and gesturing to the ‘carrots’ behind you.
You made your voice really low to play the next part. “Woh, a real howler in July, yea? Where ever could it be coming from?” You asked, placing your chin in between your thumb and pointer finger.
Jack kept giggling at your ‘deep’ voice, he held his ‘script’ up to his face to read his next line. “The North Mountain.”
You jokingly ran a hand in front of your face, signaling a character switch. “North Mountain.” You stage whispered. You ran your hand in front of your face again, going serious. “That’ll be forty.” You said, holding your hand out with a ‘gimme’ gesture.
Jack smacked your hand gently to ‘give you’ the money. But after his face fell ever so slightly. “Can we skip to when Daddy gets to come in??” He asked, giving you those big eyes you couldn’t possibly say no to.
You stood back, putting your weight on your back leg with one hand on your hip. “Hmm.., I think that could be arranged.” You reached over to grab the clapperboard. “Alright everyone! Back to places, but let’s start at ‘Hi everyone’, okay?”
Jack nodded excitingly and turned back to where he knew Aaron was standing, partially hidden by the hallway. “Places daddy!” He urged, pointing to where he should come stand.
Aaron came out from around the corner and you quickly covered your mouth with your hand, trying to hold in the laughter. Aaron had a big white hat on his head and had let Jack put a small orange dot on his nose. You and Jack had definitely double teamed poor Aaron, dragging him into your little ‘movie game’ as Jack liked to call it. The three of you had started doing this a few months ago, Jack loved ‘running lines’ with you and you were more than happy to oblige him. It had started when a sleepy Jack had stumbled into the living room one night when he couldn’t sleep and he saw you and Aaron running lines for one of your other movies. Jack had taken to it so much you ended up ‘hiring’ him to help you with your more child friendly roles.
“Alright, alright. Quiet on set!” You said, making a big deal of you bringing your index finger up to your lips in a ‘shush’ motion. “Action!”
“Hi everyone. I’m Olaf. And I like warm hugs.” Aaron recited robotically , very clear that he was reading directly from the paper. You smacked your hand back over your mouth, unable to control the giggles. Once you started laughing, Jack fell into his own fit of laughter; both of you fueled off the others amusement.
Of course, when you finally pulled yourself back together, a quick look at the way Aaron was standing with fake annoyance across his face and his arms crossed tightly against his chest sent you back into fits of laughter.
“Are you two done?” Aaron asked, no true malice in his voice.
It was rare that the three of you all got to spend time together. He’d been wary of introducing you to Jack. It wasn’t really a ‘you’ thing, but it was more of how Jack would be able to deal with it. There were the typical worries, what if you and Jack didn’t get along? Or what if you two did get along really well but then you and Aaron broke up and it hurt him even further? While you never intended to try and replace his ‘mom’, you still worried that your chaotic schedule would somehow hurt him, skewing his perception of yet another ‘parental’ figure. Not to mention the issues with him being able to keep your identity and presence in his life a secret; he wouldn’t even be able to tell people like Uncle Rossi that his dad was seeing someone.
But now, you’d been with Aaron for over two years. And Jack had known about you for about a year now. And everything had been going perfect. Jack was a stellar secret keeper, the unfortunate events of his childhood maturing him faster than any child deserved and he was able to fully understand the importance of the situation. The two of you had taken to each other quite quickly and every night the three of you would have a ‘bedtime’ call; even on the nights when Aaron was busy with a case you’d still call Jack on your own. You loved spoiling him with whatever hot new toy was popular among kids his age or getting him special early copies of movies before they came out. Aaron used to get on you about it, saying it wasn’t necessary, but you argued it was the most necessary thing in the world.
And now here the three of you were. Nestled away in Aaron’s apartment in DC. You had just flown in after wrapping up a shoot abroad and were just in time for the start of summer. Even though your career was at a seemingly new high, you had managed to secure a relatively empty summer. After long consideration and planning you and Aaron decided it’d be a nice treat for Jack to go spend a month or so with you in LA. You’d consulted heavily with many of your friends who kept their children completely hidden from the spotlight and had hired an airtight security team to assist you the entire time. Aaron was supposed to come out when he could, but you were all aware of how turbulent his poor schedule could be. Schedule permitting, you all would spend the next three days at Aaron’s apartment before you and Jack took off.
“Daddy! You sound like a robot.” Jack said, scolding Aaron. His voice brought you out of your thoughts and you looked down at him with a big smile.
“Daddy’s just no good at this huh?” You asked, shaking your head. “He’s no match for our talent, Jack!”
“This is really hot.” Jack said, holding up his arms. He must’ve been sweating his butt off in all those winter layers.
“You’re kidding me! I wonder who could’ve seen that coming.” You said sarcastically, reaching over to pull off his big hat and zip down the first of multiple jackets he put on. “I’ve heard that ice cream cools you down…,”
“Ice cream!’ Jack exclaimed, his eyes lighting up. He didn’t even look to his father for ‘permission’, knowing by now you had the most sway in the house.
“Go put on some normal clothes okay? Wouldn’t be fun if you passed out in your ice cream bowl, huh?” You told him, ruffling his hair before he dipped under your arm, making a mad dash for his room.
“He hasn’t even had lunch yet, you know that right?” Aaron asked, giving you a fake stern look as he walked over to where you were standing.
You rolled your eyes at that, reaching up to snatch the white hat off his head, letting your arms fall loosely around his neck. “Does it upset you that I’m always the cool one?” You asked teasingly, reaching up on your tiptoes to press the gentlest kiss on his lips.
He gave you one of his small smiles, reaching down to press a second kiss to your lips. “How was your flight in?” He asked, one of his hands wrapping protectively around your waist as the other one found its way by your hair, gently stroking down it the way you liked.
You let your head relax against his touch and pretended to think for a moment. Instead of answering you reached up again, pressing your lips against his, pressing yourself closer to him. You both thought you could stay this way forever; it being the first time you saw each other, in person, in nearly two months.
“Gross!” Jack’s voice seemingly cut through the two of you. Aaron was the one to pull away first, quietly laughing so only you could hear.
“Later.” He promised in a whisper.
You loosened your grip on him, turning to face Jack. “Oh Jack! Funny seeing you here, ice cream, right?”
-----
Present Day.
“Page 103, right?” He asked, skipping to the bright pink sticky note you had used as a place marker.
You jolted out of your memories, feeling the heat rise up your neck as you prayed it wasn’t too obvious you had just completely zoned out.
“Yep!” You squeaked out, “page 103, line 19, you start.” You said, waving your hands.
“And I do envy him, Emma. In one respect he is the object of my enemy, you will not ask me why, you are, you are determined, I see, to have no curiosity but I cannot be wise-” He started, keeping his eyes near glued to the page.
You frowned, shaking your head a bit. “Stand up.” You ordered, already getting to your feet.
“Excuse me?” Aaron asked.
“Stand up,” you repeated, motioning upwards with your palms. “This,” you said, motioning between the two of you, “doesn’t feel right if we’re seated, we’re supposed to move around in this scene, it’s supposed to be painful.” You explained.
He slowly stood up, looking at you for permission to start again.
“From where you left off, please.”
“I must tell you, Emma, what you will not ask! Though I may wish it unsaid the next moment-”
“So do not speak it.” You cut in. “If you wish to speak to me, as a friend or to ask my opinion as a friend I will hear whatever you like.”
“As a friend, Emma. That I fear is a word, tell me Emma. Have I no chance of ever succeeding?” He asked, looking up at you for further approval, you nodded and he continued. “My dearest Emma, my dearest, you will always be my dearest most beloved Emma, tell me at once. I cannot make speeches, if I, if I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more-”
“Let’s do a different part, yeah?” You interrupted, voice incredibly tight. You ducked from his gaze, reaching to bring your glass to your lips.
“Isn’t this the scene you have to practice?” Aaron asked, raising his brow at you.
“It doesn’t matter,” you replied, taking a long sip, “any practice as the character will be helpful.”
“If this is the one that’s troubling you, we should go over it.” He pressed.
“Page 56, start at line 9.” You ordered, throwing back the rest of your glass. “Read it over, I’ll be back.”
Before you could fully turn to go and refill your glass, Aaron lunged forward and grabbed your arm, pulling you towards him. The sudden movement caused you to stumble, throwing your hands out to steady yourself against his chest.
“You’ve been drinking a lot.” He stated, repositioning his grip on your arm.
“Am I not allowed to have a drink or two in my own home?” You challenged.
“What are you running away from?” Aaron asked, his voice so gentle it made your knees weak.
“You.” You whispered, after a long pause. You looked up at him with sad eyes and only found confusion in his. “I can’t, I-, don’t you see how funny it is? Your character is desperate for mine to be with and my character is the one to deny yours.”
Your confession pulled sharply on his heart. He couldn’t bring himself to say anything, not sure there were any words to appropriately apologize for how he had treated you.
“Why didn’t you ever call?” You asked, voice so quiet he almost didn’t hear you.
“I, I-” He stuttered, unable to think of an answer fast enough.
“I waited for weeks,” you said, looking up at him with a look that nearly brought him to his knees. “I waited so long and you never called.”
He brushed the hair out of your face, letting his hand fall gently against your cheek. His thumb caught a stray tear that had started to fall, softly brushing it away. “I don’t know.” He responded, his voice as quiet as your. “I don’t know, you didn’t deserve that.”
You pressed your face into his hand, closing your eyes as you felt more tears managing to sneak past you. He was finally admitting words you had dreamed of hearing for years, but yet you were unable to find any joy in them.
“You didn’t deserve that.” He repeated, sliding his hand towards the back of your head, pulling you firmly against his chest, while his other arm wrapped tightly around your waist. You let your body relax into his, slowly bringing your own arms up loosely around his neck.
You felt him gently press the faintest of kisses to the top of your head. “I’m so sorry angel.” He mumbled into your hair.
You pulled your head out from under him, looking up at him with big eyes. The two of you were silent, basking in each other's presence. Your eyes flickered down to his lips multiple times; something he duly picked up on. Just as you began to push up on your toes, nearly pressing your lips to his, eyes half closed in anticipation, his phone rang out.
You froze, falling back onto your heels with a small sigh. “Answer it, I’m getting a refill.” You said, pulling yourself out of his grasp. He gave you an uncertain look, as if he wanted to pull you back in and ignore the call completely.
You wagged a finger in front of him, shaking your head. In on fluid movement, you grabbed your glass and nearly ran out of the room
-----
It took you ten minutes to calm yourself down and another five to hype yourself up to return to your living room. And that was after you had made yourself a new drink.
When you entered the living room, Aaron’s back was to you; still locked on the phone. The tension was clear in his shoulders and your eyes drifted down to his free hand that you knew would be clenched in a fist. It was.
“Thank you Garcia, tell the team we’ll be there soon.” He said, pulling the phone away from his ear and hanging up.
“Aaron?” You asked.
He rolled his shoulders back, trying to loosen some of the tension from his shoulders for your benefit. He slowly turned back towards you, his face pulled in frustration.
“LAPD just reported another body.”

her idiot.
pairing: aaron hotchner x reader
requested: yes
a/n: i hope i did justice to the anon who requested this. personally, i actually really like this. ps enjoy six pages of hotch being a simp lmao
Tumblr media
Hotch needed to make a decision, and he needed to make it fast.
Currently he was standing in the emergency room of Country General Hospital, where his team was investigating a case of hero homicide. The team had profiled that one of the staff members of this hospital was the one with the itchy trigger finger, so they decided it was best to split up in order to question various staff members discreetly.
So much for discreet.
The nurse must have overheard one of the agents asking questions, because now he was in the middle of the ER with a sniper slung over his shoulder. Phillip Dowd was the name of the man who was currently firing bullets at the roof in order to get the hostages to shut up.
This unsub was also smart enough to take away Hotch’s gun.
Hotch looked around at the room full of doctors, nurses, and patients. He was still in the middle of deciding what he needed to do, when Phillip’s voice interrupted his thinking.
“Everybody listen up!” he yelled, firing a few more bullets to ensure he had everyone’s attention.
Whimpers of fear and muffled sobs could be heard in the room, but besides that no one made a sound.
“No one move, nobody gets hurt.”
Phillip turned to face Hotch, his face was one of amusement.
“A fed huh? Must be my lucky day. Not so tough without your gun, now are you?”
Hotch chose not to respond. He couldn’t admit weakness, but anything he said could agitate Dowd and cause him react violently.
“That’s what I thought, “ Phillip spat.
Hotch noticed as Phillip thought for a moment, before he piped up.
“Let me barricade the door.” Hotch suggested.
“What?”
“Let me barricade the door. Let them see that you’ve got an FBI agent doing your bidding.” Hotch explained.
“Right, let you give them a signal,” the unsub scoffed.
 “What signal? They knew you were in here. They knew you were armed. What can I tell them?” He said, keeping him engaging.
“What is this, some sort of profiler trick? New negotiation tactic?” Phillip accused.
“I think it's a good idea.” Hotch asserted.
“Why would you wanna help me?” he inquired suspiciously.
“I don't.”
Phillip laughed. “ Go ahead, boss man. Gotta say, you are one sick dude.”
“How do you think I found you?” Hotch retorted, as he made his way over to the exit.
At that exact moment, Hotch felt the panic in that room increase tenfold. Down grabbed one of the nearby doctor’s, yanking her figure until he had her detained and had his rifle to her head.
“Try anything, and she goes down,” he threatened.
Aaron could feel his heart beating in his chest, even if he could take a shot, from where he was standing, he couldn’t ensure that he could hit Phillip without hurting the woman he was holding hostage.
Hotch blocked the door before walking back up to his previous spot. He poke up again.
“Leave her, take me instead.”
“And now why would I do that?” Phillip asked him, mockingly.
“Who do you think makes a better hostage, some random woman or a fed?” Hotch asked him. He needed to keep up his facade. If Phillip caught any wind of his plan, they were all royally screwed.
“Come here.” Phillip grunted.
The woman he was pointing his gun at, looked like she wanted to cry. Hotch had to give her credit; most people he knew would crack under that kinda pressure. She almost looked familiar but he didn’t get a good look at her face as she was jerked out of the unsub’s grasp.
Phillip kicked Hotch in the calf, before barking his order.
“On your knees.”
Perfect.
Hotch leaned down, making it seem as if Phillip’s kick was a greater blow than actually was. That was when Hotch pulled out the gun from his ankle holster, taking a shot at Phillip. Hotch watched as the unsub crumpled to the ground.
Black dots started to blur his vision and he began to feel lightheaded. What was happening to him?
A few feet away from him, Y/N, the doctor he had saved, yelled for assistance.
“I’ve got a GSW to the chest. I need a stretcher and two bags of O-neg, now!”
-----------
Hotch was fading in and out of consciousness, as he heard a familiar voice. He smiled under the mask. He thought he heard the voice of an old friend. Maybe he was hallucinating.
He heard her again.
“C’mon, c’mon. I know you told me that you’d take a bullet for me in 8th grade, but I didn’t think you’d actually mean it, you idiot.”
Y/N tried to mask her growing worry with humor. She operated on countless people and saved so many lives, but there was something about seeing her childhood best friend on a stretcher with his blood on her hands that shook Y/N to her core.
Y/N could only hope to be good enough to save Aaron Hothner, as she wheeled his unconscious body into the operating room.
----------------
The first thing Hotch felt was the killer migraine. Groggy, his eyes fluttered open, attempting to adjust to the bright lights of the hospital room.
“Wha-?” He could barely get a word out before the resting figure by his bedside jumped awake, and was by his side in an instant.
“Here, have some water,” she offered him.
He gratefully took the glass from her hands, as bed started to shift to a more upright position.
“Thank you.”
She took the empty glass from his hands and put it on the side table, before resuming her position on the uncomfortable-looking chair in Hotch’s room.
“It’s no problem.”
There it was again. That same voice he heard from when he was shot. Hotch looked at the mystery woman in front of him, he looked at her hard, before finally saying something.
“Do you know a Y/N by any chance?”
Hotch was trying his best to read the name tag on her coat, but she was just too far.
“If by ‘do you know’ you mean, ‘are you’ then yeah, sure, I know a Y/N.” she laughed.
“It’s really me, Hotch. It’s been a while, hasn’t it?”
She gave him a soft smile. It was the same smile she had all those years ago; if anything, it was even more beautiful.
Hotch blushed.
“This is going to sound really weird, but I’m going to ask you a question, okay?” Hotch wanted to be absolutely sure.
“Sure. Go for it.”
“Did you have a pet parrot named Coconut when you were 13?” His words stumbled out of his words a little faster than he intended, but then again, she’d always had that sort of affect on him.
“Sure did. You helped me bury the poor little guy, remember?”
Hotch was pretty sure his jaw dropped.
“It’s really you,” he breathed.
“In the flesh. It’s nice seeing you too, Agent Hotchner” she said, emphasising his title. In childhood he’d told her about his aspiration’s to maybe work for the Bureau one day, but that seemed like ages ago.
The sound of Y/N’s voice shook him from his remembering.
“You know, you almost had me worried there, Hotchie.” He smiled at the use of his old nickname. “You saved my life and then I didn’t even get a chance to say thank you before you went all lights out on me.”
That was he connected the dot’s; Y/N was the same doctor that Phillip was holding before Hotch pleaded to take her place.
“Well, I believe you saved my life in return, so I think we’re even,” he said bashfully.
She smiled, but it was a sad smile. Had he said something wrong?
“Can I tell you something, Agent Hotchner?” she asked, out of the blue.
“Of course.” He looked into her eyes, eager to hear anything she had to say.
She let out a smile laugh. “I’ve been in love with you for the longest time,” she confessed. “Seeing you, almost dead like that… I just thought I neede to tell you.
Hotch held his breath.
“You said ‘in love‘ in the present tense.” He really hoped that the heart monitor attached to him wouldn’t betray him now. “Do you still feel that way?”
She took a deep breath and let out a light laugh.” Yeah. Yeah, I do.”
She looked at him. How could she not? From being best friends in grade school, to their adventures together in high school. Hell, Aaron Hotchner was the reason she even made through high school, emotionally and academically. With both of them coming from difficult homes, Aaron was the studious one, while she decided that high school was the time to live a little. They rubbed off on one another; they balanced each other perfectly. They were two sides to the same coin.
If it weren’t for Aaron Hotchner, there was high likelihood she wouldn’t have become a doctor. They both had decided that with the things they’d seen at home, they needed to be the good in this world. Now, Aaron would fight the bad guys, while Y/N helped the good ones.
Y/N was still in her thoughts when she noticed Aaron getting ing up from his bed.
“What are you doing?”
He said nothing, and she simply stepped closer.
He brought his strong yet gentle hands to the sides of her face, before leaning down to capture her lips in a kiss. In that kiss, he told her what he didn’t have the courage to say all those years.
He felt her smile into the kiss, before they both had to break apart for air.
“God damn, Aaron,” she said, smiling and out of breath.”Where’d you learn how to do that, law school?”
He laughed, a beautiful hearty laugh. It gave him this amazing feeling, knowing that he had the same effect on her as she did on him. If his teammates ever found out he was this crazy about a girl, he’d never hear the end of it.
He gave her a smile- a silly, lovesick smile, before leaning forward to kiss her again.
Suddenly, one of the monitors that was connected in the room started to beep loudly. In the process of stepping closer to Y/N, Hotch had accidentally let the heart rate monitor slip off his finger.
“Oh my god, you’re such an idiot.” She laughed, and moved to turn the beeping off.
He spun her around instead and pulled her so that they were standing chest to chest. He looked down at her with a smile.
“As long as I’m your idiot, I think I can live with that.”
“My idiot,” she hummed, a satisfied smile on her face, as he pulled her in for another kiss.

Finally
Aaron Hotchner X female!reader
Warnings-> Gruesome details, just normal criminal minds stuff
A/N-> had to re-write this and didn't proofread so theirs probably some mistakes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Today we're going to oh so sunny Florida! Don't get too hyped about the sunny beaches and girls in bikinis quite yet though. Over the past 2 weeks, 4 women, Sarah Jones, Clara Driver, Naomi travis, and Stefanie Rivera have been found along the coastline."
"Is there any evidence of sexual assault?" Derrick chimes in while looking over the case file on his tablet. Penelope shoots him a sad look the goes back to her tablet.
" I'm afraid not my delicious sea of rich chocolate, they could check because they were found missing their bottom half" Penelope says with a sick look to her face.
"He's killing twice a week and we have no idea when he's going to strike next. Wheels up in 30." Hotch stands up from the table and everyone slowly starts funneling out of the room.
Hotchner makes his way to his office to call for Jessica to watch Jack for a few days when he hears a knock on his door
"Hey hotch are you busy?" Hotch sees Y/N's head peaking into his office
"Hm? Oh, No, please come in. What can I do for you Y/N?"
"Oh it's not much, I just noticed that Jack's birthday is in like a week so I got him something. It's not much but last time I went over he was talking about how he really likes trains so I thought I'd get him one and I'm rambling aren't I?"
"Y/N, that's very sweet of you. I'm sure he'll love it. Thank you." Hotchner takes the gift, chuckling at the nervousness of his colleague and places the gift behind his desk.
"Yeah! No problem, well I'll see you on the jet" Y/N stumbles over to the door before waving goodbye and closing the door.
"Reid i'm just saying, I totally keep letting you win" Y/N sinks into her chair while pulling the blanket over her shoulders. Reid let's out a few sounds of frustration and pulls out a book.
"Y/N did you sleep alright last night?" Morgan asks while walking back into the main cabin with two bottles of water, handing one to JJ
"Hmmm? Oh yeah, no. I slept really late" Y/N groans pulling out a bottle ice tea she brought with her, throwing a pack of candy to Prentiss.
"Ooh yeah get it Y/N" Morgan smirks, taking some of Prentiss' candy. From the corner of Y/N's eyes, she could have sworn she saw hotch's eyebrows furrow even deeper than before.
"Morgan, I stayed up doing some paperwork, I'm moving closer to work" Y/N says taking out a book about the Zodiac Killer.
"Finally, only took like 3 years!" Morgan high fives Y/N while taking a bag of chips from her bag.
"Hey Y/N, why do you always have food in your go bag?" JJ asks setting down her tablet.
"Well back at my old job, whenever we were at out working a case, our leader never let us leave to eat during the day and everyone would be really hungry so I started packing snacks to hand out"
"Wow Y/N that's some big mom energy. Here's the newest on our case. Jane Escobar was found 30 minutes ago on the beach. Same MO"
"Okay Thanks Garcia, did you check for any initial overlap between the victims?" Hotchner asks while writing somethings down in his case file.
"Yes sir, there's not much. All of them moved to Miami around the same time two years ago."
"Okay, tell us if anything else comes up"
"Will do, goodbye my dancing little sugar plum" Garcia ends the video call and confused looks are shared
"Hey Y/N do you have any pringles?" Spencer inquiries. Y/N hands him a go cup of pringles and mumbles something about how he let him win at go fish.
The team arrives at Miami at around 4pm, and Y/N, Hotch, and Morgan head to the crime scene while the rest go to the Precinct to set up.
"It's so hot" Y/N whines, making her way to the tent that was set up
"Yes it is" Morgan says, looking at some girls walking a bit further from the scene.
"Sir? I'm Lance Stewart, Miami PD"
"SSA Aaron Hotchner, we talked on the phone. This is Doctor L/N and Agent Morgan" Y/N and Morgan shake Lance's hand
"Okay so here's what we got"
"I am definitely ready to pass out" Prentiss said while walking through the Hotels lobby. Hotchner comes back from talking to the receptionist
"Okay, they over booked so we only get 4 rooms. We need to double up." Hothner sighs, slinging his go bag over his shoulder
"Okay how do we do this, rock paper scissors, pick a card, first come first serve?" Reid asks slowly taking a deck of cards out of his pocket.
"Pretty boy, after we pick cards your gonna try to show us a magic trick, let's just do rock paper scissors" Morgan laughs as reid places the cards back into his pocket.
"Okay group rock paper scissors, let's go" Rossi says, placing his phone back into his pocket.
One by one groups were made. Rossi getting his own room, Prentiss and JJ getting one, Morgan and Reid sharing, and then the last group was made.
"Okay Y/N, let's go up" Hotch says, walking away. JJ sends a smirk to Y/N, who blushes a deep red.
Y/N quickly grew a crush on Hotchner when you two got to spend some quality time at Rossi's house after a particularly tough case. Everyone was drunk and passed out but Y/N and Hotch spent hours talking about everything and nothing. Y/N had also been over to his house a few times to have a movie night, Jack had grown to love her, always asking hotch when she would be over next.
"You can shower first, I'm going to order some food, do you want anything?" Hotchner offered after setting his big on the floor.
"Uh yeah I'll take a (your food of choice), thank you" Y/N steps into the bathroom, looking in awe at how nice it was.
After her shower, she did her skin care and changed into shorts and a tank top. After tying her hair out of her face, she walked into the bedroom noticing something that she didn't see before. There was only one bed.
"Hey, I got the food" Hotch said walking into the room, setting the food down onto the small table in the corner of the room. They ate in comfortable silence then Hotchner said he was going to shower.
After his shower, he noticed a figure on the floor covered in a thin blanket.
"Hey Y/N? Why are you on the floor?" Hotch asks placing his old clothes into his bag
"Well theres only one bed and I knew that if you had a say in it, I wouldn't even be able to think about the floor, let alone sleep on it. So I thought if I was asleep before you came out, we wouldn't have to discuss it and you'd get the bed cause you deserve it and-"
"Y/N, your rambling but right. Even if you are right, you're still going to get the bed"
"With all due respect, no"
"Y/N"
"Sir, please. I don't want you to sleep on the floor.- Ah! Hotchner!" Suddenly Y/N was lifted from her cocoon and placed on the bed.
"Hotch, why am I on the bed" Y/n asked muffled, facedown on the bed
"Because I put you there" hotchner said looking unamused
"Hotch please just take the bed"
"Why don't we both just take the bed, if it means that much to you" Y/N looks at the man for a moment
"Yeah, yeah we can share" Y/N moves to one half of the bed while Hotchner laye on the other half. Suddenly his phone rings with a call from Jessica
"Hey jess, is something wrong?" As he listens to the woman on the other side, Y/N finds herself staring at the beautiful man next to her
"Hey buddy! Yeah I'm at a hotel right now, yeah she's here. Okay um, let me ask her- Hey Y/N?" Y/N snaps out of her trance and hums a yes "Jack wants to talk to you, if that's okay"
"Oh, yeah! Hey Jack Jack! How are you?" Hotchner put the phone on speaker so both of them could listen to the boy on the other end
"Hi! I'm good, Aunt Jess made Mac and cheese for dinner then let me play with legos!"
"Oh that's so cool bud! Me and your dad just ate dinner too" she looked up and saw the man enjoying how she and his son got along
"Hey Y/N can I tell you a secret?" Jack whispered into the phone
"Yeah bud, what's up?" Y/N matched his tone, earning a smile from hotch
"My Daddy like-likes you!" Suddenly Hotch's look of admiration turned to one of shock. Y/N smiled and talked back to the boy
"I like-like your dad too Jack" Y/N smiles into the phone seeing hotch smile back at her
"Yay! Don't tell my daddy I told you though"
"A little late for that buddy" hotch laughs into the phone
"Um, Goodnight daddy! Love you!"
"Yeah, love you too buddy" the line goes dead on the other side and hotchner places his phone down.
The two just look at each other and smile
"Goodnight Aaron" Y/N places a kiss on the man's cheek and lays facing away from him. He places his hand on the spot where the womans lips were before. He places one of his own on the womans head before wrapping himself around her, the pair fitting like the worlds perfect puzzle
"Goodnight Y/N"
After 3 more days of working the case, the team heads home on the jet. Everyone was tired, especially Y/N and hotchner who had been abducted by the killer before the team found them and took the man into custody. The unsub confessed to all the killings and was sent to life in prison.
The new couple sat next to each other, talking until they fell asleep leaning on each other with hands intertwined.
Rossi was the first to speak out of the group
"Finally they got together"
Warnings: none
Summary: Aaron Jack Hotchner was born.  The reader has an incredibly close-knit relationship with the team, making it easier to raise her son, but his father has no clue he exists... Or does he?  I’m actually so excited that this fic is getting such amazing feedback, it’s makes me happy to know that there are people who want to read something that I’m very proud of creating.  Without further ado, here is the third part to ‘Gone’.  Enjoy!!
A/N: AJ is Aaron Jack’s nickname for Aaron Jack and Aaron Junior, just in case that confused anyone.
Tumblr media
Previously on…
His dad was not here, but Aaron Jack Hotchner was surrounded by the people who love him and will go to the ends of the earth for him, and that was all that mattered.
Aaron was out in the world somewhere with Jack hopefully safe, but wherever he was, he had no knowledge of the baby boy just born with his name.  He didn’t know that you thought about him every day, and probably didn’t know that since he left, you spent every night crying yourself to sleep.  He didn’t know any of this because he was gone.
“AJ, I’m not going to tell you again,” you scolded your son.  He was stubborn as always, trying to play with the toys that weren’t his without permission.
“No, no, he’s fine!  He’s so cute.  How old is he?” the mother of the child whose toys Aaron Jr. kept playing with asked.
“He’s turned three today,” you replied, looking at the boy who looked too much like his father.  His smile resembled that of Aaron’s, and every time you saw it, your heart seemed to skip a beat, not only for the memories of your beloved boyfriend, but for the tiny child that was yours.
The playground was mainly vacated, only a few mothers and their children enjoying the beautiful outdoors that day.
“Mine’s four.  Nearly time to start school,” the mother replied with a sigh.
“That’s a scary thought,” you replied.  And it was.  There was no telling whether or not your son was even safe in any schools.   You hadn’t really thought about sending your son to school, yet anyways.  Your focus was raising him and keeping him safe.  As far as you were concerned, he would be home schooled.  Maybe Penelope would be willing to help out.
As if the computer genius could hear your thoughts, your phone began to ring with her name flashing on the screen.
“Hello,” you said after pressing answer.
“Alright, muffin.  I picked up AJ’s prescriptions and set up an appointment for a follow up in a month.  He’s also set on piano lessons courtesy of a one Spencer Reid.  Oh, and birthday party is set up.  We’re ready for you,” she said.
“Jeez, Penny, you didn’t have to do all that,” you told her with a smile.
“Oh, stop.  I’m happy to.  Now get both of your cute butts over here, we’re ready!” she said.
“Alright, thanks, Penelope,” you replied with a smile.  You motioned to AJ to come to you.
“No problem!  And happy birthday, love,” she finished before hanging up the phone.
“Happy birthday, little man!” the mom next to you said to your son as he approached the bench you were sitting on.
“Mommy’s birthday,” AJ said, pointing up at you.
“Your’s as well?” she asked, smiling.
“Mine was yesterday, but we celebrate them together,” you said, standing up and picking up Aaron.  “It was nice to meet you-”
“Shelby,” she said, sticking out her hand to shake.
“Y/N,” you replied.  “And this is Aaron Jack.”  Your son shyly waved at Shelby.
“Nice to meet you Aaron,” she replied with a smile.  “Hope to see you again,” she told you.
“You too.  Sorry about the toys,” you said sheepishly.
“Again, don’t worry about it.  My son Kale and I come here every Wednesday afternoon if Aaron would ever want to have a buddy to play with.”
“Thank you, that would actually be really nice,” you said honestly.  With the life you two had, another little boy in AJ’s life didn’t sound like a bad idea at all.  “Say bye, AJ,” you said to your son.
He waved again, letting out a tiny ‘bye’ before you walked away from your new friend.  You knew having someone his age to play with would be good for him.  JJ’s boys were always happy to play with your son, but Henry was in school and they were busy most of the time.  Kale would be a blessing.
You walked to the car with AJ on your hip.  Once he was secured in his car seat, you grinned down at him.
“Ready to see everyone?” you asked.  You’d told him about his ‘surprise’ party.  You were never really any good at keeping secrets.  AJ nodded excitedly at you, his smile sending butterflies throughout your body.  “Let’s go then.”
“Surprise!” the team shouted as you walked through the door.  You playfully gasped and looked down at AJ.
He slapped his hands onto his cheeks, opening his mouth in fake shock.  To a room full of profilers, it was obvious you gave up their secret surprise party.
“You told him, didn’t you?” Alvez asked, unable to keep a smile off his face at the sight of your son.
“Sorry, he begged to know if we were surprising him, and how can you say no to that face?” you said in a baby voice, picking AJ up.
“Hey, buddy!  Uncle Spence got you a present,” Reid said, taking him from your arms.  He walked over to the desk that was full of presents, the team, apart from JJ, in tow.
“He’s starting to look so much more like his father,” she admitted to you.
“I know,” you said, watching AJ’s family show him his new toys.  Your heart was soaring at the sight of it.  Despite the heartbreak you’d experienced almost four years ago, there was so much happiness that came to you and so much love surrounded you and your son every day, and you were so grateful for it.
“What are you thinking about?” JJ asked you.
“Just about how damn luck AJ and I are,” you replied, leaning into her side.  She pulled you in close for a warm hug, admiring the vision of her sons with yours.  It was a perfectly cliched moment, but it was all you ever wanted.
Emily stepped away from the group, slowly making her way towards you.  A look passed between the two agents, some kind of silent communication.  You dated a profiler for well over two years, so you knew a thing or two about reading a look.
“What?” you asked.
“What?” Emily asked back, acting nonchalant.
“There’s something you’re not telling me,” you told her, knowing you were right.
“Tell me about the woman you met today at the park,” she said suddenly, catching you off guard.
“Excuse me?” you asked, not understanding what she meant.  “What woman?”
“Y/N, you have a protective detail on you 24/7, and it’s their job to report to me.  They told me about the woman you talked to at the park,” Emily replied.
“So?  I’m aware you keep an all too watchful eye on me and AJ at all times, but why are you suddenly interrogating me on who I happen to converse with?”  you asked, your voice raising a bit.
“I’m just following protocol,” she tried, but you were too annoyed to listen.
“I don’t give a damn about protocol, what is this about?” you asked.  Emily looked at JJ, as if she was silently asking for help.
“We just want to know if you’re trying…” JJ started, but she couldn’t find the words.
“Trying to what?” you asked, skepticism clear in your voice.
“Strauss is worried you’re trying to contact Hotch,” Emily said.  What, you thought.
“How is me talking to a random mom at the park me trying to contact him?” you asked, vocalizing your confusion.
“Are you?” Emily asked sternly, clearly wanting a straight answer.
“No!  Of course not.  Why would she think that?” you said, still unable to understand what talking to a woman at the park meant about Aaron.  JJ looked at Emily, another strange look passing between them.  “What aren’t you telling me?”
“It’s on need-to-know basis, Y/N,” Emily told you, as if that explained everything.
“It’s about Aaron?” you blurted out.  Tears began to form in your eyes.  “If it’s about him then I need to know.”
“Y/N,” JJ started, but you cut her off.
“Do you know where he is?” you asked, your heart beginning to speed up.  The agents at the present table started to quiet down, looking over at you.  You were fixing to go into hysterics, it was obvious.
“No, I don’t.” Emily said.  Her voice was strong.  She wasn’t lying.
“Then what?  Does Shelby know where he is?” you asked, recalling the mom from the park’s name.
“We figured that’s why you were talking to her,” Emily finally admitted.  You furrowed your brows, even more confused than before.
“What are you talking about?” you asked, knowing Emily was probably not going to be able to keep whatever this secret was from you any longer.  She sighed and looked at the other agents, silently telling them all to distract AJ and not listen to what she was about to say.
“Shelby Madison is the woman you talked to today.  She has a son named Kale, that’s who AJ was playing with,” she said.
“I know all this,” you replied, wanting her to spill.
“Shelby Madison is a private investigator,” she finished.  “Strauss thinks you hired her.”
“I didn’t.  I’d only met her today,” you said.
“What did she tell you at the park?  Try to remember the conversation you had with her,” Emily said, not as a friend, but as an agent.
“She asked me how old AJ was, she mentioned her son was four and about to start school,” you recited, slowly trying to remember the words she’d told you.
“What else?”
“She introduced herself as Shelby and asked to see AJ and I again.  That’s it.”
“When?”
“On Wednesdays.  She mentioned her and her son go to the park every Wednesday,” you said, realizing why Emily was asking these questions.  “I’ve never seen her before today.  AJ and I are at the park every Wednesday, too, she was lying,” you said.  “What does that mean?”
“It means someone hired her to find you,” Emily said.
Your heart sped up, your palms became increasingly sweaty.
“Someone like Scratch?” you whispered, the name feeling hot on your tongue.  It’d been two years since you said that name, and although he was out of your thoughts most nights, it was a name that still haunted you.
“No,” a voice said behind you.  The look on Emily’s face said it all.  You knew exactly who that voice belonged to.  It was a voice you hadn’t heard in three and a half years.  A voice you never thought you’d hear again.
It was the only voice in the world you ever wanted to hear, but knew you never could.
You turned to face Aaron Hotchner
“Someone like me.”
it was January 22ed and spencer and the team had a new case.
as the team sat at the round table waiting for garcia to come in with their new case,
"Where is garcia?" hotch asked jj
just then they hear the sound of her hot pink heels coming down the hallway, coming in with her yellow smiley face mug with a tea bag tag hanging down the side of the mug.
"ok my friends this photo here is of amber moore 24 in LA, she was beaten up and choked by her ex-boyfriend josh van-camp 25, he is on the lose so it's you who is going to catch him". then takes a sip of her hot tea.
the team looks at the photo of a pretty girl with short black hair, something like a bob cut, and brown eyes that have a little sparkle to them.
" how could someone who said he would love you forever do something like this?" morgan asks shaking his head.
"you say you will love them forever, then you do something like this?" Prentiss says looking at one of the photos.
"i don't know, but we are going to find out, wheels up in 30" hotch told the team.
on the jet.
" so the apartment is amber's?" jj asks
"yes, she kicked the ex out, and he came back and did this" showing a photo of amber in the E.R". Prentiss answers.
"hey pretty boy, you have been quite, what's going on?" morgan asks looking up from his file.
"i feel the same as you, how could a boyfriend do something like this?" reid asks looking at some photos of amber, he starts to tear up a little.
"ex-boyfriend" jj adds
"still your right prentiss, he probably told her he was going to love her forever and this is what he did, this isn't love" reid says throwing the file on the little table on the jet.
"why is this bothering you so much reid?" rossi asks.
"i don't...i don't know there is something about it that just upsets me so much" reid tells him.
"we see stuff like this all the time reid, it's part of the job" prentiss tells him.
reid looks up at her.
"i'm not saying this isn't bad, i'm just saying we have seen this kind of thing before" prentiss tells him.
"we have, but this one....this one is different". reid tells her.
the team lands in LA.
in the police station.
hi i am officer Peterson i am the head of this station.
"hello i am aaron hothner this is dave rossi, emliy prentiss and doctor spencer reid"
"where is the hospital amber moore is in?" reid asks.
"it's right down the road" officer Peterson answers.
"ok, i would like to go there" reid tells him.
"why?" hotch asks looking at reid , not really sure about letting him go see her.
"i just want to talk to her" reid says.
"ok, take morgan with you" hotch tells him.
at the hospital.
reid and morgan go to room 37 and talk to amber moore.
they both walk into the room, amber is lying in bed with bandages in her head and one on her hand, her left eye is purple, and her lip is cut.
"hello i'm docter spencer reid and this is derek morgan" reid says softly.
"you are much better looking than the doctor i had before" amber tells him with a little smile.
morgan smiles.
"oh, no i'm not that kind of doctor i am in the F.B.I, we are here because we are looking for the man that did this to you" reid tells her.
"i know who did this to me" amber tells reid.
"we do to, we are trying to find him" reid says.
"do you know where we can find him" morgan asks
amber freezes, her heart rate going up: "n.....no i don't"
"are you ok?" reid asks with a little fear in his voice.
"i....i'm just scared" she tells reid.
"of morgan?" reid asked her.
"yes" amber started crying.
"i am with the F.B.I as well, i am trying to help you same as reid" he tells her softly.
"i know is just..i'm scared, i'm sorry" she cries.
"i will go wait in the hallway, i didn't mean to scare you" then walk into the hallway.
