something i've been thinking about:

Wally is set up as a sort of "main character" by the whrp. he's said in the site's description of the show to have introduced the main theme/lesson of the day's episode, and then the rest of the neighbors join him on his escapades. but then we have our first glimpses of everyone's actual dynamics and characters through the audios and you look at Wally and its like

first of all, thats an npc. second, nearly everybody else has severe main character syndrome

but its fascinating how Wally is just kind of... There. he doesnt talk much. he doesnt contribute beyond a couple of lines. its more like he joins the others on their shenanigans. he fades into the background. he's off to the side while everyone else holds conversations & leads the moment

Wally, despite being described as Thee character, is borderline background.

& whats even more interesting, within his individual secret audio files and interactions - he's almost chatty. not only that but the way he talks is more confident and faster paced. he's taking initiative. he can be kinda pushy. when talking to the qa/whrp/Us, he acts more like the character his descriptions portray. he acts more like a person instead of a puppet waiting for his next cue

I cant tell if - when around the neighbors - his tepid milk behavior is a purposeful act or if he's masking. and if he's masking, is it deliberate or involuntary? and in regards to both, why is he acting so different? It could be tied to what he's trying to accomplish. if he's trying to "restore" Welcome Home, it would make sense for him to act as he does around the neighbors - he wouldnt want to clue them in that he knows so much more than he's letting on, would he?

but then that begs another train of thought - what if he isn't acting or masking? if there is a time discrepancy between Wally's interactions with the qa/whrp/Us & the more 'official' audios, that could explain the difference in behavior. we could be getting glimpses into "future" (read: current) Wally, who's had much more time to figure himself out since we can safely assume he started out as a blank slate. we could be seeing a more experienced Wally than the one seen with his friends.

of course that line of thinking loses some merit when considering the 14 "bug" audios. or it could lend to it... if we're seeing a more experienced Wally but his friends are only seeing what he allows them to. it's still him, just... a carefully curated version.

in general it could really tie into the themes of identity and change and being other, to me. when you're so different - or you feel so different - that you can't bring yourself to be your most authentic you around your friends. when you feel like you have to hold back and be who you think they expect you to be, or what would be most palatable. most normal. will they accept you as you really are? there's always the fear and terror that the people you consider closest to you won't. or when you're so scared of change that you'll shove down & lock away parts of yourself so that you can keep things as you are. because once they know you've changed, so will they. and really, do you want to even accept that you've changed? what if that's what scares you most of all - that you're different, you've metamorphosized, you can't go back to the way things were because you yourself are no longer the person you were before. there is no reversing this no matter how much you try or pretend

When the paladins were hearing “the song of the void”, it was pidge and hunk who didn’t hear it (i think). However, in s1 ep1, Keith arguably almost killed the paladins by doing a nosedive on other his hover bike (which I thought was hilarious), Or maybe he’s just that skilled that they were no where near death

I,,, really don't equate that s01ep01 jump with anything even remotely close to the severity of Naxzela. While it was certainly something that scared the hell out of Pidge/Lance/Hunk in the moment, it was still a far cry from being a near-death experience; Keith really is, as you say, "that good" and it's evident from the confidence with which he executes the maneuver.

Look at that face?? That little smirk as he accelerates?? Keith has every confidence in his skill as a pilot, and that jump (as we later learn, when we see his pre-Kerberos memories of Shiro) isn't something he did because he'd run out of options and had no other way to escape his pursuers, but rather a move taught to him years ago by the Garrison's golden-boy himself, and therefore likely something he's practiced and perfected ever since.

But think of it this way: you've probably had a handful of theoretical close calls in your life yourself—perhaps you stepped out into the road when you shouldn't have and almost got clipped by a car, for example—and while those situations in all likelihood had your heart beating a mile a minute, they don't necessarily traumatise you in the way that it would were you actually hit by the car,,,,,, or, say, seconds away from flying into a magical space-barrier with the intention of turning both your ship and yourself into a bomb all to prevent a substantially bigger bomb plated by your enemy from detonating and blowing up everyone you love.

Honestly one of the worst thing about being a poc and queer is the fact that the supposed "accepting" queer community is that for the most part they're racist as hell.

Let's just be honest, if someone is queer and white; they tried to get treated the same way a minority race would be.

I think an interesting work-around regarding having Random see himself as Unicron spawn while avoiding the “evil alter” trope would be for him to operate by blue-and-orange morality/an unconventional moral code. Unicorn’s creations aren’t always inherently evil (the Minicons in Armada being a prime example of this), but when you’re descended from a being of chaos it’s only natural that you’d have a different sense of right and wrong compared to “normal” people.

As an additional, somewhat related note, I feel like he’d also really enjoy sweet things given how one of the Aligned Continuity novels describes Dark Energon (aka the blood of Unicron) as being sweeter than normal Energon. Granted, it’s a different continuity and doesn’t abide by the same rules, but it could serve as a fun little reference.

Well if dark energon isn’t a zombie drug (or whatever the heck it’s putting TFP Megan through) maybe Random can have a little smidge of Unicron blood as a little treat. The pink of TFA energon makes the purple of dark energon make a little more sense to me for some reason- makes me think it’s like treacle or molasses, sweet but still a tough sell, like the tar or pitch for cybertronian consumption. Seeing as how at least in the one DS game that blue energon is like somewhat canonical, idk why but that seems like a sour more bitter looking energon, maybe because it’s ‘fuck-off’ blue?

I looked up blue-and-orange morality and got the example in ‘bacon to necktie’ which honestly connects to Random more than any greyscaled mortality chart- I mean it would fit better to someone without a filter to just be chaotic with an equally chaotic and difficult to comprehend morality. The only way you can tell Random is gonna do a certain something is if you’ve seen him do (and enjoy) that specific something before, but it’s unpredictable and not that reliable of a method, haha-!

Okay, so you're the only other person I know that's watched Critical Role (Vox Machina) and read The Locked Tomb, and I desperately need to ask someone else if Harrow referring to The Sleeper's gun as looking like "bad news" in Harrow The Ninth seems to be a reference or just a strong coincidence, because I have been wondering for months. I don't have the book on me to check the passage to see if "bad news" and Bad News look similar, though.

I feel like it's probably a coincidence, if maybe riffing off similar ideas in both cases, but then again, this is also the book series with an explicit "none pizza with left beef" reference in it, so I can only say that with so much confidence.

I will leave you with a different thought for your time though, which is that I definitely know a decent number of other folks with Critical Role/Locked Tomb fandom crossover going on -- the funniest being a friend of mine who cosplayed Delilah Briarwood at the Critical Role meetup at CONvergence last year who is currently working on an Ianthe Tridentarius cosplay (and showed up to my gothic horror birthday party in a "Coffeshop AU" version of the costume). She is a lovely person whose company I appreciate greatly, but clearly also the greatest supporter I know of various necromantic Women's Wrongs.
