The Sign (Sat YT) ep 9 of 12 - I love this show so damn much. This may be my KinnPorsche. It’s just so endlessly entertaining in a perfectly unhinged way. I love that they looped Tharn’s dad back into the murder investigations.

You know kinksters have invented necklaces that can’t come off… right? Just saying.

Meanwhile, would it still be BL if our seme didn’t wake up from drowning and instantly go chase snake?

No. No it would not.

Remember the one hard and fast rule of BL? When a seme gives a BJ it’s penance. Phaya is apologizing to Tharn for leaving him behind.

Pit Babe (Fri iQIYI) ep 10 of 14 - How is this absurd creature managing to rise in the ranks? Pavel turned in some stellar grief and ALANJEFF have my whole heart. I make Ikea puns in the... Trash watch happening here.

Cooking Crush (Sun YT) ep 7 of 12 - The make-out montage was absolutely charming and very much American rom com style - interesting (and rare) to see in a BL (not to mention from OffGun. How far we have come since Puppy Honey?)

Meanwhile, another wonderful grandma in a BL!

Next week we do an actual harken back to Puppy Honey, so obviously I’m now enjoying this whole show way more than before. I think it helped that I watched it earlier in the week, when it wasn’t competing with any other BLs.

Last Twilight (Fri YT) ep 11 of 12 - Not gonna lie, I knew from you all that this was gonna be a rough ep. But I very clearly remember the penultimate Bad Buddy ep so I now have slightly more trust than others in GMMTV on this matter.

That said, this was a crap episode.

You can’t set Mork’s truth and character motivation reveal up like that and then have his lover choose to dismiss him in a way that diminishes not just both character's growth AND all of Mork's actions towards Day, but also our faith in every other character. It was a shitty narrative thing to do to us, and it was a shitty thing to do to Mork. And that doesn’t even take into account the forgiveness allotted by the story to Day’s unrepentant excuse for a mother. The doom should have been handled differently. The mom shoudl have leaned in even more evil and actively lied to split them apart.

I don't know if they can redeem this misstep in the final episode. But I'm interested to see them try. That said, this plot seem to be true to the book.

For Him (Thurs iQIYI) ep 8 of 12 - A major trigger has landed. But also it’s clear who’s fault that incident was... and it’s not Him’s. So Blue's so-called-friend really is unhinged. This episode was a little bit more engaging than last week, but it’s only because stuff actually happened. I’m still not sure I enjoyed it.

Twins the series (Fri GaGa) ep 12fin - Despite the fact that I’ve been annoyed by the show the last couple of episodes, I’m still sad for it to end. It was a good reveal and First had the right response. Also a very sports way to end it. Sprite is a v clingy bf.

In brief?

A messy very Thai pulp sports romance that actually managed to involve sports in an identical twins trading-places plot. Basically Not Me meets HIStory 2 Crossing the Line (although vastly inferior to either) with an endearing main character and a good lead pair (poor things), both soapy and earnest without too much camp. It tried so hard but the plot, side couples, and extraneous characters let us down. Passable if not great. 7/10

Time the series (Thai Gaga) ep 2 of 10 - Eh. Whatever.

My Universe (Sun iQIYI) ep 22 of 24 - skipped this installment

Although I Love You and You AKA Sukiyanen Kedo Do Yaro ka (Japan Gaga) ep 2 of 10 - Funny how quickly he retracted that confession and everyone called him out for doing it too soon (including me from a narrative beats perspective). It was a cute screw up - I see what your meta-arse is doing there, Japan. Also our Tokyo-boy’s serious reserved earnestness is extra adorable in the surrounded by Osaka enthusiasm context. His accidental flirting is that much more heart wrenching for our poor baby seme. And they ended this ep with honorific negotiations!! Be still my heart. I’m really adoring this show.

Your hyung romance super fan is back in the game!

Meanwhile the Osaka accent is beyond adorable.

Sahara-sensei to Toki-kun (Japan Fri Gaga) ep 6 of 8 - Japan what are you doing? I do love the not-sorta-ex from the past.

VIP Only (Taiwan Fri Gaga) ep 10fin - I loved all the young people in the hawker center supporting the campaign against the terrible mother. They make a good domestically sappy couple. But that is Taiwan's specialty.

In brief?

A sweet if aimless story about a writer and a chef finding love via noodles, fake dating, and family challenges. If it had a tighter script and a shorter run, more like a KBL this might’ve been quite special. But it didn’t and it lost me too many times. 6/10

I don’t like to be disappointed by Taiwan.

The Whisperer (Sun ????) 10 eps - Ends next week. Thai horror BL that ALSO involves cheating (what joy is mine). I don't think even the perfect single dimple can motivate me to watch. Word is... it's terrible.

more reborn au chunin exams ->

so i'm trying to backtrack from my "mission goes wrong" post, which is actually a horrible way to construct a plot, but here we are. anyway this post is therefore about the tournament section of the exam, but to recap: team 4's main goal is to extract a captive from iwa, but the iwa-konoha tensions are still pretty high so it has to look like a legit attempt at pushing a team through the exam. the tournament is the day when they can guarantee basically everyone in the village is distracted, so that's the day they pick to do the actual extraction. it's also a day when the entire team has to be seen publically

tori: well i'm not a combat shinobi, so i'll just get out on my first match

kushina: NO >:( you can totally be a combat kunoichi if you try!!!

tori: why are you like this

so i think part of tori's character arc for this section is that she's like. significantly more badass than she thinks she is. it's not that she's a particularly gifted fighter-- it's that my goal for late-plasticity tori is that through wit, creativity, a few minutes of prep time and lot of experimental fuinjutsu, she can actually take out an experienced ninja. she's just having a very hard time integrating "while in the heat of battle!!" into her sense of self.

tori about to wander into unknown circumstances where she can pretend to be a cute little civilian girl: yeah no i got this. idk i'll just make something up. it'll be fine.

both itachi and deidara are both like "aren't you fighting some dweeb? you can't THROW your match people will notice" meanwhile tori is like. no i think there's a very high chance i will try and then just fail

B U T itachi has the match right after her, so if she wins, she'll be up against him next. (we just assume itachi will win, obviously.) i was thinking about how canon made sasuke vs gaara a first round match and how that seems like bad seeding to me if that was the match most people wanted to see..... like i know it was decided "randomly," but..... c'mon. so i decided they made it a first round match because that's how they could GUARANTEE this high-profile match.

so i decided first round for this should be itachi vs kurotsuchi 0:)

the OTHER part of tori's character arc is that despite coming off as "the nice one," she is phenomenally bad about thinking about her teammates as people she should be looking out for and actively protecting. tori understand the benefits of teamwork in theory, obviously-- she's just used to having to actively fight whoever she's working with the entire way, and also maybe one day they will just kill her for no reason.

so tori's chunin exam plan is thus: win her fight with minimal effort so she's fresh as possible to fight itachi, and also fuck up itachi's match as much as she can. so instead of extended training montage or whatever, she buddies up with kurotsuchi tells her how to fight itachi. not like, treasonous amounts of info-- but she warns her he favors genjutsu and stuff like that. also i'm not 100% on how she wins her first match yet, but i'm thinking it involved lies to make the other guy panic and give up, possibly with a low-effort assist from kurotsuchi? (think nibe's fight in homemade dynamite)

anyway kushina is like "nooooo D; tori what are you DOING" because yeah kunoichi are tricky people but WHY DID YOU SELL YOUR TEAMMATE OUT TO THE TSUCHIKAGE'S GRANDDAUGHTER ARE YOU INSANE

tori: ??? itachi? he'll be fine. look, he won

and then i want the tori vs itachi fight to be like. good. like she's not going to win, but she does make him work for it*

*part of it is that itachi doesn't want to seriously injure her, and tori looked deep inside her heart and decided she would beat itachi to a bloody paste if given the opportunity

tori limps out of her fight, and taking her to medical is kushina's excuse for why they both dip out of the tournament early.

EDIT: iwa does not pass any of them for petty bullshit reasons they just make up.

well, I guess the ending would keep it open for a potential S2, if that were to ever happen. good episode with excellent animation, even though it didn't quite fulfill all of my desires for this show. would've liked mahoro to have a more active role in all this. this show also felt a bit limited by runtime and writing at times, but overall it was a pretty enjoyable experience with charming characters (who I would've liked to learn more about, tbh). matakara and ara's fight was amazing. I wanted more ichiya and senya than we got but I'm glad they resolved their issues too. I'm kinda curious as to what happened with ichiya after the fight. is he also in the bullet with senya, did he pass on, or is he in his own bullet? if it's the first option, I need a spinoff of their stupid domestic lives inside their separate spirit world

i think we can all agree that SHOCK!’s music video is 100% related to buddy daddies.

please pay attention to the lyrics that i note during each section 👀

it’s lengthy but i think it would be worth reading. the music video offers a lot of similarities to buddy daddies and more that hasn’t been yet been similar to any part of the show we can see, which opens up many possible theories.

it begins with a lone reaper (rei) meeting an angel (kazuki) by chance from a crane game.

(lyr: “hey, i want to love you, is this true? > i showed you my heart.”)

there is an entire montage dedicated to just showing them interacting, with the reaper in blue and the angel in pink. at the end of it, they hold hands, but now the reaper is also pink.

(lyr: “hey i want to love you, is this true? > im being tossed around again”)

next shot — they chillin, holding hands or whateva, and then badoom a gigantic ufo (the organization) looms over them, and starts to chase them around. hand-in-hand, the two are running away.

(lyr: “i locked it up so it wouldn’t hurt > it won’t change, and i know, but…”)

the ufo knocks down and captures the angel in its huge hands, and the reaper’s eyes water as it reaches out to save the angel, but the angel then disappears. in very brief shots, the reaper sheds a tear and then sprouts wings.

(lyr: “i know that i don’t want to lose anything anymore > gives me a good laugh”)

in a series of beautiful✨ shots, the reaper is trying to escape the ufo with determination and it’s newfound wings.

(lyr: “let’s love and be loved > let me see if this is love”)

there is a shot of the angel, pink, and the reaper, blue again and far away. there is another shot of the reaper letting a tear fall.

(lyr: “from now on, swing me around as you please”)

the reaper, although with wings, is falling through the sky with great speed. its eyes tear up. in the next shot, it reaches out towards the camera as it falls back into the grasp of the ufo.

(lyr: “swing me around as you please, forever”)

the lights on the sign on the crane machine powers off. a small reaper and angel plush are won by and picked up by a girl wearing pink (miri) from a crane machine (the same one).

so many things in this video make so much sense after i really gave it some thought. here is what we know for sure as of episode 8:

rei was a lone killing machine before meeting kazuki (wandering reaper).

kazuki was trapped by his guilt until he taught rei to live, which in turn helped himself (angel trapped in crane machine).

kazuki and rei met by chance (crane machine).

he changed rei for the better, even if he doesn’t realize it (turning the same color as kazuki).

they are dependent and reliant on each other, for work and personal reasons. they lent each other a helping hand (holding hands).

but we saw that when something personal interferes with the professional commitment people have to the organization, the organization will make sure it doesn’t stay that way (huge ufo with big eyes and hands chasing the two).

as for the rest of the music video? shit gets sad…

the angel is torn away from the reaper and trapped in the ufo’s grasp. it then disappears to become a plushie again.

the reaper sprouts wings and does all it can to escape the ufo, but it meets the same fate as the angel. being separated from the angel makes the reaper blue again.

the two, in a helpless and immobile plushie state, are picked up, by chance, and by a little girl this time. however, this might put the girl in danger of meeting the ufo as well.

i think i don’t need to explain my theories for that part. it can speak for itself…

but it’s got me seriously worried about the direction of this show. since we know that the beginning can be well-explained by rei and kazuki’s first encounter and a little past that, there is a chance that the rest of it reflects the rest of the series as well.

or who knows, maybe the music video is only extremely resemblant of the show it ops for by coincidence!! 😭 maybe buddy daddies has a happy wholesome ending…!!!

Buddy Daddies Episode 9 "No Sweet Without Sweat"

~*~Warning: Spoilers for Buddy Daddies Episode 9 under the cut~*~

Overall this was a very cute episode with almost no angst, which means next week is going to be painful. We're entering the final arc of the season here, and things are going to ramp up.

The first thing I noticed about this episode was the background music during the scene where Kazuki, Rei, and Miri were asking Kyutaro to come to the field day. The music playing in the background was typical classic-esque music that would play in a cafe, but what caught my attention was that it was played in a minor key. (Don't ask me which key, I don't have perfect pitch.) Minor keys are often used in music to signal ominous things. If I have my music theory straight, D-minor is considered the saddest key. It'd be interesting to know exactly which key this piece was played in.

Another thing that caught my eye was the way the shot zoomed in on Kyutaro's face when his eyes narrowed, and then the immediate cut to the opening song. This does not bode well, and combined with the musical implications I am starting to get an inkling that Kyutaro will betray our protagonists.

Rei going overkill to secure a spot was hilarious and also very touching. He went out in the middle of the night to secure the best spot to watch Miri. However, the barbed wire monstrosity was a bit much. Plus the way he just easily vaulted over the brick wall? He missed his calling as an Olympic gymnast smh.

Also Kazuki's camera setup kills me. I grew up with a dad who loves to take pictures and has all the snazzy cameras, but even he never used three at once. Look at that telescoping lens on the middle one! Kazuki is prepared.

The discord helped me identify the brand that the cameras spoof off of. If you look at the marking on the camera, you'll see that it says "Milox", which is a spoof of Nilox. Here's a screencap so you can see it clearly.

I think somebody needs to tell Kazuki that this is not what people usually mean by "fun fact".

Absolutely dying at the fact that the daycare mamas still believe the whole "oil baron and washed-up comedian" story. 😂 What kind of fanfiction-type bullshit has Kazuki been coming up with?

Miss Anna is the MVP of tug-of-war. We stan a queen.

Poor Taiga has managed to make enemies for life out of both Rei and Kazuki. That child isn't going to make it to elementary school.

What really got me about this episode was that the leitmotif I've nicknamed "Miri's Family" started playing the minute Rei unfolded the scavenger hunt card that says "family", and it doesn't stop playing until the field day is officially over. I think that's the longest we've heard it play! I'm almost in tears bc Rei and Kazuki have realized that Miri thinks of them as a family. A big moment for the both of them, and the leitmotif makes it all even more touching.

But the post-credit scene. Ah fuck. It's October now, and Kyutaro has yet to either give the organization information or tell Rei and Kazuki. So his decision so far is not to decide? It looks like the organization is starting to get antsy and press for information. Kyutaro better abide by what he told Rei and Kazuki in episode 5:

One final note: It's absolutely hysterical how wrong my predictions were for this episode:

The daycare mamas' group chat pops up again, probably speculating on Rei and Kazuki's relationship history or how they got Miri

Rei and Kazuki get way over-invested bc they don't understand the idea of "friendly competition". (Almost a given, especially after that promo video 😂)

Kyutaro will show up at least once, likely in the post-credit scene

the post-credit scene will be the the only part of the episode that addresses the request for information.

We will get a hilariously over-the-top training montage where Kazuki and Rei coach Miri. I'm talking like on the order of the dodgeball episode of spy x family where the kiddos were climbing a jungle gym but it looked like mountain climbing 😂

we get at least one new important musical theme, or one becomes important that wasn't earlier.

I'm at 2 for 6 with my predictions.🤣 Maybe I'd better stick to the musical analysis...

OK, I've rambled about it to a couple of people, so I may as well just gather all my stupid thoughts into one place, so it won't be buzzing around my head anymore; a collection of random WWDITS thoughts that I have (kinda) sorted out, and some Thoughts on Vampire Guillermo!

Obligatory shout-out to @beansprean, because the comic My Familliar's Ghost inspired some of these thoughts (so if you enjoy WWDITS, check it out! lots of other great art by them, too!)

-First of all, and bear with me on this, he STAYS a Vampire at the end of the season. The final scene doesn't end on him being grossed out at the thought of eating people, it's just a montage of him having fun around the house doing Vampire Things, tra-la-la~

-New season starts. It's a few weeks later, and Guillermo is still having fun being a Vampire. It's mostly OK, the others have all been previously taking turns going out at night with him to do Vampire Things (showing him all their favorite spooky activities, so he can figure out what he's capable of, what he's into, etc. most of them didn't have anybody take care of them when they first changed, at least not like this, so it's kinda nice)

-However, Guillermo has started ditching them to go have his own fun. Nandor is ESPECIALLY upset by this; being the one to make Guillermo a Vampire was supposed to be the BIG THING, but that got ruined, so he thought they could still be Vampires together and THAT would be a BIG THING, but now Guillermo is being a Vampire by himself, without Nandor, and HE NO LIKEY!

-Meanwhile, Guillermo's family is also missing him, but he's literally started acting like he doesn't even care if his mom feels disappointed in him (he's high on a whole ego-trip). Part of the reason; they all eventually try to attack him on instinct now that he's a Vampire, and he does repeated memory-wipes to fix it. This is just TIRESOME. His family keeps messaging him, in particular, because they were excited to have him meet a distant family member the got in touch with after doing a family tree kinda thing... the cousin eventually meets him, and seems to be the ONE person who doesn't get all stabby with the stakes around him and the other vamps, so. That's cool

-After a while, the other vamps kinda just want to adopt the cousin as their new human buddy, and Guillermo is getting more and more distant. His ego-trip moves on to a power-trip, because he feels like he finally has everything he's ever wanted, and the people around him act like it's a bad thing. Some rather... un-hinged rage fits occur

-This sets up a purposeful parallel; the vamps have sometimes worried about "losing their edge", as they have softened up slightly in recent years. While they DEFINITELY aren't 100% "good" people, they aren't as "bad" as they used to be. Ironically, they have recovered shreds of their humanity (and again, they weren't "super nice" when they were alive, but you think about things differently when you feel like a "monster"). Meanwhile, Guillermo just LOST his. They try to tell him, when he's getting a little wild out there "That's a little over-kill. Calm down. You're making a mess", and he's having NONE OF IT; he's the Queen Bitch now, get used to it!

-The cousin finally just comes out and explains they are, in fact, related on the van Helsing side, they've just had a lot of practice keeping the Slayer instincts in check. There is a bit of an issue with Slayer family lines (beside the van Helsing, there's more out there) trying to keep tabs on any descendants who become Vampires. Some other Slayer folks heard about Guillermo (because some pissy vamps told on him, first he kills half of them, now he takes over their turf and won't share), and the cousin came to check on him. The cousin explains they DON'T want to kill him or the other vamps, but there is a PROBLEM...

-Not only is Vampirism a curse, Slayer families have a bit fo curse as well; if one begins to change into a Vampire, they essentially need "permission" for it to be completed. The first human blood they drink needs to be from a Slayer relative. Guillermo didn't do that, so now he is a VERY unstable Vampire. He's literally going to become more and more intense, until he not only just rips through humans, he'll tear himself apart. The cousin says they can still fix it by un-doing the Vampirism

-So, same situation with Derek, except they tell him what's going on, and he agrees to the staking if they PROMISE to resurrect him right after. Now, the only problem is catching Guillermo

-He's ticked off and not thinking clearly. He winds up going to see his mother, because of some twisted thought about "getting rid of anything that reminds him of being human". The other vamps try to reason with him "You're either gonna wind up killing them OR they'll wind up killing you, and this is NOT OK"

-It's Nandor that has to confront him physically, and there is a VAMPIRE FIGHT. Yes, they've fought before, but this is off the rails, no holding back, VICIOUS fighting. The cousin has to get in there a little bit, because Guillermo is kinda winning... but Nandor still gets through to him "I know you better than anybody, and I know you do NOT want to hurt your mother!"

-Guillermo finally chills out. They undo the Vampirism, and now a few extra months catch up to him all at once (still a fuzzy face Guillermo moment). Th cousin tells him about the issue about Slayers turning into Vampires, but Guillermo is pretty depressed now... he totally ruined his own Vampire experience, he almost became the worst kind of monster (not even a cool and sexy one, like he literally almost ate a bunch of babies)

-The cousin reminds him, his family of vamps stopped that from happening. He has a chance now to live a couple more decades as a human (save his eventual ghost some "unfinished business"), spend more time with his family (and say goodbye to them slowly and naturally, no weird strings attached). When he's ready, after a full life, he can be a Silver Fox Vampire. The cousin even offers "If I'm still around, you can get a sip of Slayer blood from me. I've donated blood before, it's fine"

-So! The delightful horror of Vampire Guillermo going on an un-hinged power-trip, the irony of the other vamps trying to be the voices of reason, the angst potential of a whole FIGHT with Nandor, and the hope that someday, Guillermo can become a Vampire again, in a way that won't destroy him...

-And while I know it's a cop-out in Vampire stories to say "Oh, this Vampire isn't evil, they only prey on bad people", but like- yeah, he can just DO that. He also doesn't need to always KILL every person he bites, he could get like 20 blood snacks a night, and nobody dies. Heck, Colin Robinson could look something up on his phone, and find a private meeting for a bunch of weird "Anti-Me Too" groups, and Guillermo is like "Well. Let's go take back the night~", and they all eat some creeps for dinner. It's fine

still kind of boggling that they went with rick springfield for this recurring incarnation of lucifer. funny getting closer to current times - like hey 2016/7 wasn't all that long ago. trying to shift brain to tech and references and such.

dear lord the cheesy 80s-esque sitcom music and the cliche montage of LA-ish things i am not optimistic about this -_- dean's ranting about LA but he had fun when they were there 10 years ago? he enjoyed being a PA, he banged the actress he liked on the way out. apparently grumpy old man now

also rolling my eyes per always about insisting dean has this really narrow taste in music with the added annoyance of him being an asshole about sam liking something else. they had the one episode (10x12) where dean admitted to liking taylor swift's shake it off after being de-aged and hearing it. i thought he had a little personal growth moment 😔

i'm glad they had sam push back on dean being an ass and in a way where it's not a fight, sammy just figures out a way to force dean to bend the knee and listen to the vince music with the unimpeachable logic that it's research. and he's so pleased with himself

sam looks pretty with this backdrop but i started laughing when these horns came in to be some i dunno, rousing of spirits, call to arms on the lucifer hunt! "and we will stop him! we will. it's what we do, man" *sam stares off mournfully in the distance* cue the sad cellos

i mean, in the script it's cass. when metatron was typing, it was cass. the captions say cass. the only people who use cas are fandom?? if we're talking english, cas would be pronounced more like kaz. anyway. i don't see how this is an argument. my personal (probably unpopular) opinion is fandom preference of not using the more feminine spelling (shortened cassandra etc)

well now that i read the linked cas or cass, looks like my points stand

(on twitter) Robbie Thompson: why is Castiel’s nickname spelled Cass not Cas? again: for science Eric Kripke: I think “Cass” just looks cooler on the page. And “Cas” might sound like “Caz.” But that’s just my opinion. Now get back to work.

owl house season 3!!!! various doodles, some more obviously referencing screenshots than others

(the belos one is him squinting at a script while luz pats his shoulder with That’s Rough Buddy energy. it makes more sense if you read my rambling below)

thoughts on the episode under the cut that got REALLY LONG

FIRST I absolutely love this show and that was an extremely entertaining special. the sheer love that is put into this show was palpable, and I loved all the kids’ outfits, and the kind of things they got up to in the human realm, CAMILLA oh man Camilla rocked, and it was just beautiful overall in backgrounds and designs and animation (that fight scene? MWAH the way the kids are animated on their staffs has always been sooo satisfying to watch)

however

i gotta admit, while the end of s2 you could tell they were pressed for time I still felt like- especially in hollow mind- they kept a fairly good pace, while in this special it was kind of a mess. like everything was zoomed through, not just the montage, and scenes like luz and hunter investigating the house together were (WHILE SO GOOD) very thrown in, seeming more like they wrote the idea and fawned over it and had to slap it in with little set up and follow through in order to keep the special moving. like, it’s a collection of so many awesome moments, but the connective tissue was lacking much more visibly here than it ever has in the show before

and the elephant in the room: belos

okay. so. i honestly was not wild about how belos was done in this special at all. ignoring that, despite their clear efforts both here and in hollow mind and the finale etc, hunter is still the clearest and most emotional and sympathetic connection to the main villain and not luz. IGNORING THAT. he was such a cardboard cutout of villainy in this special it was almost laughable. The intrigue was all there- the finale showing the gloop that escaped, and here seeing the weird possessed animals more and more throughout as well as flapjack’s weird behavior as we clue in to what’s going on, that’s all good! but the follow through? Belos possesses Hunter (cool, great! Awesome look and very spooky) - he. gets the titans blood to go back to the demon realm, for some reason… he kills flapjack just cause, while spouting lots of generic villain lines and taunts at luz…. and then he gets kicked out of hunter but just- leaves anyway? in his monster form again, so it’s unclear why he was a tiny gloop or possessing things this whole time at all? His motives were just so unclear throughout all of this, he felt like a prop just to facilitate hunter and luz angst rather than an actual character, and I honestly don’t see why they didn’t just make him some parasitic cursed remnant of belos that escaped the demon realm with them if this is how they were going to execute him being alive

like it still doesn’t register for me that belos is still alive and in the demon realm! it never sticks with me! Belos feels so done as a character I can’t even conceive of what they could possibly still need him around for. They already redid that moment in the finale fight, with belos-monster calling hunter caleb VS belos-hunter calling flapjack evelyn, and we’ve got closure with hunter and belos now even More, and luz only has the shallow conflict of guilt for connecting him to the collector, uhhhh and he failed the day of unity, so like. What else is there to even do with him???

this special is already very Halloween themed and it would make sooo much more sense overall if they reframed this special re: belos as about exorcising ghosts, metaphorically and also literally. the final battle is in a cemetery for crying out loud! be it belos’s ghost or a parasitic remnant or whatever, have that be the final obstacle both emotionally and literally for them to return home to save the boiling isles, and they put it to rest by putting aside their fear and guilt and Making A Choice! Hunter as he did in the episode choosing his own life and future! Luz choosing to fight for her demon home and demon family (preferably after a rewrite where she’d been grappling more with her feelings on being home, what she loved and missed vs hated, and whether they can even get back to the isles at all)

IDK! Other gripes were : that line at the end of the hay ride? Something something “lol I think little bro was mad his big bro got a HOT WITCH GIRLFRIEND LMAO” from the enby teen? Hated that. It took me out of the episode immediately and felt like such an obvious- I don’t know, writer insert, fandom insert line? it felt like the writers telling us that’s what we’re supposed to think and I also just think it’s. so boring to reduce the backstory we were JUST given / expanded upon to him being a stupid jealous incel or something. villains are (gasp) more interesting when they’re sympathetic? when you can see parts of them where you can understand how they reacted the way they did? if they wanted him to be a foil to luz and not just the Big Bad Emperor, we should understand how he reacted the way he did to witches even if we hate it. we should see that oh wow, he and his brother were orphans, his brother was essentially his parent / guardian, and then that brother disappears or seems to be kidnapped by these dangerous creatures from another realm, which witchhunters warned them about. However, unlike Luz or his brother, he spurned all the kindness found there and only saw the danger and monsters (and there is legitimate danger in the isles! it’s not a hospitable place!), and he gets so caught up in his own fear and hate that he lashes out at his seemingly bewitched brother, and he has no home left, and he latches onto this idea of killing all the evil that “took” his brother from him, and etc etc the show happens. Like that’s all so cool laying it out like that!!! and it opens up really intriguing possibilities for a special that instead involves laying his ghost to rest in whatever form that takes! (*disclaimer that does not in any way require forgiveness from the kids. relax)

there’s also willow and gus. While I could see and appreciate that the writers made sure they were never just standing in the background not doing anything and always had their own moments and quips, they’re also so clearly just accessories to the group right now. Willow, who I will admit I’m biased to, has really been reduced down to Confident Bombastic Friend and Object of Hunter’s Blushing (don’t. get me started on that), with zero trace of her shy and bullied past remaining. She never has any moments of relapse, which you might expect especially in the human realm which is so new and different for her, not even a moment where she hesitates and needs one of the gang to back her up and give her that nudge to shake off her nerves/doubts. she’s just completely confident and uncaring of others now, and they’re also sticking with the amity-willow sudden power couple from end of s2 where they’re completely okay (but that has more to do with their arc together as a whole, or rather the lack thereof, than this special specifically). There was definitely a lost opportunity to pair up Gus and Vee, as two Boiling Isles kids who adore the human realm, so Gus wasn’t stuck with only being Hunter’s emotional support and little bro (despite how I do love their dynamic). and of course for both of them but SUPER amity, who we actually know the family of very well, there was not nearly enough emphasis on what they’ve lost and how conflicting it must be to be trapped in another realm away from your family who is currently in danger but still be enjoying it so much. they did not feel the weight of not being able to go home maybe ever nearly enough at any point in this special, and I think that deserved at least one scene, maybe right before they discover the map from flapjack to the titans blood, to really feel hopeless and grieve

is almost any of that feasible given the restraints the show is currently under? No, probably not. did I still greatly enjoy the special? Yes, very much so! But there was definitely a lot more glaring flaws than I’m used to with The Owl House, and I’m hoping that doesn’t carry through to the remainder of the show, as cut short as it may be

The only thing I wish they had done differently is that they had kept Collector in the Boiling Isles. Maybe depowered them, I understand that the weight of rebuilding the Isles and the complications that having a godmode toddler underfoot would have complicated the ending montage they wanted to make, but honestly...

It is pretty heavily implied that the other collectors tricked our Collector into playing “hide and seek” to get rid of him, killed all their playmates when they found friends who actually wanted to play with them, and abandoned them without even trying to look where they dissapeared when they got sealed away. And that their culture finds annihilating planets to be “just part of the job”

Like buddy. Come back. I don’t think that’s the family who’s going to give you the love and acceptance you want.

Anyway, I headcanon that the Owl family asked them to stay, but couldn’t exactly stop them from leaving once they got the childish idea stuck in their head that if they just found their original family, all would be rainbows and sunshines. They did just watch a montage of happy reunions, I’m sure it seeded the idea of “this could be me too” in their head. Rose tinted memories and all.

And when things didn’t go as planned, they returned back to the Boiling Isles, where the weirdoes can find a place to belong.

THOUGHTS ON EP. 11 BEFORE I JUMP INTO THE TAG!

What?

And I mean WHAT?

The last thing I expected in this episode was for Misaki to die?? Poor lady. I was pretty mad at her earlier on in the episode because she kept making it sound like Miri had lived in some miserable conditions or something (and Misaki saw with her own eyes that Miri's room was wonderful and etc.) but... phew. Really glad freaky Ogino didn't get to hear her last words. I have a lot of pity for her and I think she could have had more light in her life.

And ew, I found myself pitying Rei's stupid pops, too. The way he said, "Everything just as it always was," highlighted just how much of a traditionalist he is, but I also got the impression that he also felt trapped by the weight of the Suwa name and the mess he inherited. However, Rei wants to break the cycle while Suwa Shigeki didn't even ever consider that a possibility, so...

But man, if he gets some kind of redemption, I will punch a cushion in anger!!

I SO THOUGHT Kazuki was going to manage to kill Ogino? I was literally yelling, "YES — KILL HIM!" as I was watching, lol. I find it a bit flaky that Ogino left Kazuki alive considering that Kazuki was literally a target, but I guess the justification in the writing (that Ogino only does one job at a time) kinda holds water? Hmm.

I love how Kazuki yelled, "REI!" as a fake out and was pretty sad that Rei wasn't actually there but phew, Kyuu-chan to the rescue! And man, I was so proud of Rei for PHONING KAZUKI and COMMUNICATING and man, Kazuki really is the brains, huh? I love them both so much!

I'm glad that we got a scene of Miri wondering where her papas are because I was feeling a bit hard done by when it seemed like tiny pop had just moved on. But phew. How are they going to explain to her that Misaki's not coming back —

I loved the montage at the beginning, too. Rei losing at games and Kazuki losing all will to cook... though I nearly started bawling when I saw Miri's empty room. And Kazuki wiping his tears on his arm? Goodbye.

The idea of change really hit hard this episode, huh? Rei insisting that it had to be the three of them and that they could only do it together — Rei being passionate and Kazuki just taking it all on and laying down the law! I actually cracked up when Rei flipped over only having an hour of playtime each day (like, c'mon Kazuki — that's harsh). Also, I loved that Kazuki saw a little montage which included Karin saying, "MAKE MIRI HAPPY!" because that's so important and I'm glad that Kazuki has accepted that yeah, their family is anything but conventional but hoo, they can indeed make Miri happy.

Misaki dying in Kazuki's arms though... that was painful. And what a powerful performance from Kazuki's voice actor. I thought the background song sounded a bit out of place, if I'm completely honest. (But then again, I wasn't really listening properly, so...)

The pacing was a bit. Hmm. A lot was crammed into this episode. Not necessarily in a bad way, but I wasn't sure if the impact of Rei's speech really hit me the way that it was supposed to. I was relieved that Kazuki didn't um and ah over what to do, but it was a bit — "BAM! Misaki is dead and now Miri is orphaned and I can't do anything without your help and I know change needs to happen but I'm somehow having all of these epiphanies without addressing the giraffe in the room which is that we have to take down my evil dad's evil organisation."

SO BOTH THE DADDIES AND THE BUDDIES ARE BACK! And only one (1) woman had to die to achieve it. 🙃 If this series didn't have Miss Anna, it really would be a bit of a wreck where women characters are concerned, lol. Yes, we also have Karin, Carol and Dorothy — but they're kinda more plot devices than well-realised individuals, so, you know.

So... I think that the family will now get by on the leftover money from the pay packets that were supposed to come from Karin, now that they're out of the hitman business. Where will they live? How the heck is Kazuki proposing to continue taking Miri to daycare? And what is Kyuu-chan going to do? He'll be a target too, right?

my good omens 2 thoughts

yes i am crazy i have been waiting since they announced this and i have gomens has literally carried my mental health since 2019 but i have so many beefs with season 2 which made me so disappointed...

ineffable bureaucracy reveal. (BIGGEST GRIPE) im okay with the ship, i like it sometimes. but the reveal was not it. 0 set up to the 2 of them being together. they gave us a 10 min flashback sequence. 0 retention of their original personalities. 0 consequences for their actions in s1 from our main protags (especially crowley) who willingly gives away ALPHA CENTAURI to GABRIEL whose abuse he never got over. Jim isnt gabriel. Crowley should've been stomping gabriels head in when he got his memories back.

beelz and gabriel were so different during their little montage. i felt like i was looking at 2 different characters. Beelz lost their edge. they were so clean and proper. even the makeup--beelz had smooth skin and perfect edgy girl eyeliner. gabriel lost all mean-ness. where did the two's disgust for humanity go? beez actually liking music? a song about love?! i wouldve been happier if the jukebox was playing the sounds of a metal scrapper instead of buddy holly.

if they drank (WHICH GABRIEL IS REPULSED BY) they shouldve been lapping it like a dog with their tongue with the same unfamiliarity of aziraphale eating for the first time.

the dynamic between those 2 should've been two feral dogs going at each other to contrast the soft azicrow love because azicrow's bosses are the extreme opposites of them. the two of them were ruthless and cruel to the point where they wanted to execute azicrow and burn them out of existence. they give no shits about killing children or people or their own workers. what the fuck. they got off scott free without any punishment for what they did to azicrow in the first season. crowley was traumatised by gabriel and you're telling me all because Jim said he couldn't remember and was cute about hot choco that crowley forgave him entirely as Gabriel and not Jim and was willing to give up his creation to him?! really?

azicrow are the 2 beings who understand true love BECAUSE they were on earth. you're telling me that beelzebub and gabriel spent 4 meetings on earth and suddenly found true love and are suddenly SO SOFT and TENDER. really? REALLY? they antagonised azicrow for 6000 years over it to the point where they stalked them and harrassed them and sent people to kill them. augh. i cant be happy about this even though i do like them. it felt so ooc. I feel like they sanitised these 2. i was so disappointed.

i would've been much happier if the two of them were as ruthless and disgusting as they were in s1 and that they were dismissive toward everyone in the "whatre you gonna do about it losers lol middle fingers up to the posers" and if crowley protested somewhat. but no. everyone was fine with it.

2. Inconsistencies and retcons

there are so many set-ups that lead no where or had not so climatic reveals (the words on the matchbox, gabriel's memory word dumps, crowley suddenly wearing glasses in job) but i saw a post theory thing about it being intentional so im hoping it's real because the reveal of it being ineffable bureaucracy all this time !11!! was not it. it was so bad to me.

the retcon of the azicrow garden of eden meetcute... i refuse to believe neil would do that? i mean i loved the new opening meetcute no doubt, but crowley and aziraphale seem to remember the two of them as angels moment from the job scene where crowley says "im not the angel you knew" and idk... it makes me sad that the eden scene was... done over. it was iconic. it was about aziraphale showing a demon he just met love and kindness. not someone he used to know, who he already liked before.

In Job, aziraphale freaks out about being a bad angel because he lied to gabriel and therefore sabotaged gods bet and whatever. but he's already lied to god directly to herself in eden? why is he only freaking out now?

4. Muriel

i love muriel. but i was wondering the whole time why azicrow didnt just lie to her and say that humans who are standing together side by side and smiling are actually in true love. she wouldve believed it. heaven woulved believed it. azicrow know that they are stupid because they actively manipulate muriel like that by telling her that it takes several days to tell. and heaven was like "ya i knew that".

3. Maggie and Nina

i was really disappointed. i thought i was going to love them. i did not. their scenes made me cringe most of the time and i hated it because i felt like i was watching a wattpad fanfiction instead of tv. nina having an abusive partner also felt like a "ohh her partner sucks so logically maggie is her one true love and choice" thing. it wouldve worked without it. i dont care if it's supposed to be a reflection of the azicrow relationship because i felt like it like a cheap portrayal of aziraphale's relationship to heaven... heaven's abuse was subtle until the end where they wanted to execute him.

SUPER SUPER SUPER hated when maggie and nina confronted crowley about his relationship... and that THAT made him realise his feelings. THESE 2 HUMANS ARE INCONSEQUENTIAL TO CROWLEY. THEY DON;T KNOW HIM. HE DOESN'T KNOW THEM. crowley realising his feelings is such a special moment to his character. it wouldve been so much better if crowley realised it on his own. not his murderhobo bosses ""love"", not these 2 rando humans.

4. azicrow kiss

i have religious catholic guilt BUT i felt like aziraphale choosing heaven again was so frustrating as a viewer... because we've already been through this before in s1. he comfortably chose "US". i understand the point of aziraphale thinks he can fix heaven for crowley so the two can be together and i know it is probably in line with his character. but idk for me and my friends it was frustrating tv because there was 0 hints of aziraphale still leaning toward heaven. the emphasis of this season was "WE/US"

plus i HATE that it was driven by maggienina/bureaucracy. I HATE IT. i would be less mad if crowley came to the conclusion himself and did it himself.

"no nightingales" is a smashing line tho. really love it.

5. misc

aziraphales halo bomb thing was also a waste. there were 70 demons only and they already killed a hefty bunched. why couldnt he maggie and nina escape further down the floor or can aziraphale not smite anymore either? can he no longer wield a sword? can he not miracle like a wall in front of them? yes crowley loves rescuing him but aziraphale found it necessary to take action with the halo bomb.. idk it was a lil weird to me--such a huge thing for 70 demons.

6. overall

i liked episode 1-5. i liked the first ep maggienine but after that hated it. i loved jim and muriel. i was laughing every episode. i loved the new azicrow interactions we got to see and the flashbacks were so good. i loved that they extended it so we got to have a deep in depth look of them. the 15k word essay did point out sus things like in 1941 blitz having uncovered windows and open lights etc. so i hope it's real and not just ... unintentional bad writing. i just hated ep 6 with my whole heart. it sours the whole season for me.

6. Which tf character do you relate to the most?

Is it cheating to pick tfp Bumblebee? He has large expectations placed on him (from others and himself) and lots of the time feels like he needs to prove himself. Finds the limitations of his disability frustrating. Very relatable. Should probably chill out a little. Me too buddy.

10. Which tf character do you think you’d get along with really badly?

Hahahahaha so many of them. To pick one: Flamewar for sure. I love reading about her immensely, but pranks and constantly doing impulsive things that are either life threatening or could ruin carefully laid plans would DRIVE ME UP THE WALL. (Also. u know. She’d probably kill me and try to colonize earth. little details.)

18. Which scene from a tf media is your favorite?

Aaaaa I have to pick JUST one??? mmmmMMMMMMM ok gotta say the whole Bumblebee getting shot and then stabbing Megatron in tfp was a ROLLERCOASTER and also ridiculously pretty. movie may RANKED worst to best i think is more fun so let’s go <3 ok there’s only 30 because i didn’t feel like including the comedy special in the ranking. anyway.

30. starting off DEAD LAST NO CONTEST. not another teen movie (day 16 pt 1). it was bad. movie that claims to critique misogynistic tropes in teen movies while upholding a worse more disgusting misogyny. wow. also i didn’t laugh once. however i do think chris evans should have been contained to this genre instead of superhero movies this is literally where he belongs. anyway. movie was bad

29. friday night lights (day 5). listen the show isn’t the best thing ever but truly this movie made it look genuinely groundbreakingly progressive. i don’t really even remember this movie but i remember that it sucked

28. after ever happy (day 15). easily the second worst after movie.

27. all the wilderness (day 27). frankly. i don’t know why i watched this it wasn’t on my list it just has a guy in it. anyway it wasn’t that good but it wasn’t the worst thing i’ve ever seen

26. naked singularity (day 24). movie based on a book i didn’t read and i feel like the book is probably much better and makes way more sense. but john boyega is kinda fine soo…. also my buddy bill skarsgard was there. and olivia cooke. and she was hot. there are worse ways to spend 90 minutes. see number 30.

25. romeo and juliet 2013 (day 17). julian fellowes tries to ruin romeo and juliet. fortunately there was enough slay in the flop that it didn’t suck that bad. my friend benvolio :)

24. the lost girls (day 30). like if the sisterhood of the traveling pants was about wendy darling. and bad. but bad with a Vision. feminism win also. love it when women can’t act

23. three months (day 8). not good but made me cry so. and troye sivan was there

22. 80 for brady (day 11 pt 1). LOVE comedies about old women!! who are WEIRD about that man!! (tom brady). yeah it was as bad as you expect it to be but it was fun <3

21. footloose (day 19). there was so much flop in this movie. and yet there was enough slay to even it out in the end. i loved ren and willard’s gay little dance lesson montage so much…

20. shakespeare in love (day 29 pt 1) if a good movie was bad. if a bad movie was good. yeah

19. the count of monte cristo 2002 (day 22) some would call this movie bad. they’re right of course but also WRONG AS HELL. you had to be there. teenage henry cavill is there and that’s not even the weirdest part

18. merlin’s apprentice (day 13). HATERS will hate this two part three hour miniseries. they did not understand it though. first of all the two romantic leads of this got real life married after they met here and now have three kids. and one of them is meghan ory of abc’s once upon a time fame. so love is real jot that down

17. game night (day 4) FUN movie. and rachel mcadams was there

16. the beguiled (day 18). i liked the part where they killed him :) also i think sofia coppola slayed the aesthetics of this so i will never be watching the original peace and love xoxo

15. murder mystery 2 (day 23). i had SO much fun at the adam sandler jennifer anniston murder mystery sequel….

14. moxie (day 16 pt 2). very good movie for what it is, i think it should be required viewing for all teenage girls. however if you expect it to be really deep and a Perfect representation of feminism… you’re asking too much lmao.

13. the craft (day 3). loved it however i think those girls should have lezzed out wayyyy more also i hated the boyfriend stuff

12. dating amber (day 9). movie made me cry like a little baby so fuck this movie but also yes it was very very good and i WOULD recommend

11. the guernsey literary and potato peel pie society (day 11 pt 2). too many downton abbey actors but it’s pretty good anyway! sad though. however the primary reason i’m ranking it so high is because of how they did the end credits. some movies have a post credits scene, THIS movie has the characters talking and laughing over the credits instead of music it’s so slay seriously watch it it’s so good

10. promising young woman (day 28). well you all were there when i watched this. it was. an experience. some thing i didn’t mention however that i liked was how we never see nina at all but her presence hangs over the entire narrative and informs everything. her seymour slaughterhouse rulez swag. her laura palmer realness

9. palm springs (day 14). it was just cute! and it made me cry. and my buddy was there. can’t divulge more info than that i don’t like to talk about that but. well. always fun to hang with the old pals!

8. cyrano (day 29 pt 2). MASSIVE SLAY. what if there was a movie like 2017 beauty and the beast but it was really actually good and didn’t have an over abundance of cgi. sorry i keep making that comparison it’s just real yk. except that the beast kind of sucks and cyrano would literally never. he’s a feminist

7. not okay (day 12). caroline calloway was in this. the movie about an influencer scammer with depression… also it’s insane

6. crazy rich asians (day 25). yeah i’ve seen this movie before so maybe i shouldn’t have put it in my ranking but i just like it <3 THE movie to watch with your mom this summer! for the 5th year in a row!! god my mom loves this movie, you would not believe…

5. the map of tiny perfect things (day 31). goes so crazy…. like. what if we broke the time loop with love…… holy shit….

4. practical magic (day 2). LOVED the witch movie about men dying!! ty and livvy could do this also. that’s not relevant to the movie being good though. i LOVE you sandra bullock and nicole kidman!!!!

3. freaky (day 1). literally an insane slay. whoever thought of this concept needs their shit sucked so serious. sorry for saying that in that way i just really believe in it… and kathryn slayed… and also, and i didn’t even expect him to, vince vaughn slayed really hard as well…. also i loved the love interest boy soooo much he literally wanted to kiss her so bad he did it WHILE SHE WAS IN THE KILLER’S BODY. ok freak.

2. moonrise kingdom (day 21). i loveddddd this one…. this is the only movie may movie i’ve already started rewatching i just want to hang out with it…. i want to eat this movie like a buttery flaky perfect croissant. i also want to swim in it. it’s complicated. i loved it though <3 also it was soooo emma and jules core

1. the secret of moonacre (day 6). GIRLFANTASY WIN!!!!! this was a perfect film for me… it has EVERYTHING. AND the protagonist has a gay boyfriend. AND it was directed by my close friend gábor csupó. of jess fame…. it’s so good it’s so everything to me. i need to acquire it on dvd immediately but i haven’t yet… i can’t recommend it because if any of you watched it and didn’t feel this passionate about it i would kill myself. but i loved it for me <3

rewatch continues! i slept til 2pm today (yeeeeew) and then made fried rice for combined breakfast-lunch-dinner, so i didn’t get around as many eps as i thought i was gonna, but i did get from 1x08 to 2x07 which i think is decent – especially considering how much kreese there was in these episodes. also, i said i was gonna be more coherent this weekend but that has not worked out, sorry

1x08

LUCILLE!! god randee is so beautiful and also somehow very comforting to me. the mom vibes are real!

-“you’re dating a larusso?” jlawz wants to be dating a larusso so bad :(((

-even if i didn’t know the specific men that wrote the amanda and lucille interactions in this episode, i would definitely know a Man wrote it, ya know what i’m saying?

-continuing this episode’s theme of train crash family dinners jlawz dumping “just because you live in a nice house doesn’t mean there’s nice things going on inside” on the diazes yiiiikes. like i get it buddy but you met these people three weeks ago and have had two conversations with them. jlawz is the worst reflection of drunk oversharing me and i don’t like it

-daniel and robby kata montage is making me so sad. i’m really gonna need them to be on good terms again soon, it has been 84 years and my heart hurts

-look, what louie did to jlawz’s car was objectively very bad but he felt he was defending daniel’s honour so i am going to give him the tiniest, tiniest little point for that. sorry but i love daniel and i empathise with people doing terrible stuff because they love him (NOT you terry)

-okay HANG ON. did jlawz just walk angrily into the backyard of every house on escalon drive, encino until he found daniel’s place?? and how long was he standing there staring at him?? like the whole time he was making his coffee he just stood there staring ominously?? was he there the whole night??? i need answers!!

-the speed with which the old men go from screaming and trying to fight each other to flirting over cars and nicknames, to bonding and opening up about childhood daddy issues and mutual ex-girlfriends together gives me whiplash. cobra kai is not a comedy it is a tragedy and the tragedy is these two hotheaded idiots who desperately want to be friends and keep fucking it up!!

(billy is essentially just mouthing the words to take it on the run while ralph sings and i think we can guess here which of them came from a theatre background)

-also the way jlawz looks at daniel when he says ‘it’s alright’. i wish to /consume/ it

-“yeah except yours didn’t break your trophy and try to kill you” insane how quickly the showrunners are gonna forget this later!!

-when are we gonna get johnny and daniel drunkenly sparring for real??? it’s been three seasons!! we have been denied it too long. GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT, SHOW

-the way jlawz wanted to punch kreese in the face as soon as he saw him? i felt that

-season 2 has a lot to answer for bringing us kreese and stingray, but daniel looking beautiful and radiant restoring the miyagi do dojo almost makes up for it tbh

-”balance is my thing.” oh yeah for sure jan!!

-miguel really grew whole inches and got his braces off in one weekend. amazing

-jlawz peeping daniel and robby at the hardware store and getting upset and going off at robby about is actually desperately sad. it gives big divorced family energy

2x02 (ish) to 2x07(ish) {my thoughts got a bit slow and same-y after i had all those carbs, so i have condensed the thoughts from these episodes all together bc why not}

-daniel’s calves (that was all i wrote down, that was the whole thought. and i agree with me)

-when kreese said “the gang’s all back together. well, almost all of us” i literally dropped my fork in fury. full offense, i hate that raggedy racist old bitch with all of my heart. i'm so mad i will probably have to sit through his ‘redemption’ in s5. i hope chozen kicks him into a ravine

-anyway, again, there’s something very ~recent exes~~ about the way daniel walks up on kreese and jlawz and stares angrily at jlawz like he’s betrayed him and then kreese puts his hands on jlawz in a weirdly claim-y way and jlawz shrugs him off and tries to talk to daniel and daniel’s like i’m Not Angry I’m Disappointed Goodbye (he IS angry tho). why is every lawrusso interaction like this??? why are they like this

-i’m not gonna get into any deep meta/wank about whether daniel should have told johnny anyway about robby. of course he should have, but like sigh, adults are beating up children here in karate wars town. within the logic of the show it makes sense that daniel would see kreese (a man who jumped out from behind a cardboard cutout of himself to yell grraaaaar at him) and go yeah nah peace out i’m not putting robby in that mess

-it’s 2018 there’s no way that cement truck business wouldn’t have been recorded and uploaded to twitter and johnny would have been the new bean dad

-oh so daniel was gonna do an ice demo at valleyfest and jlawz does a fire one huh? and the fire was melting the ice? it’s almost like…. there’s some sort of …. symbolism… there….

-an angy little tory appears! and she loves to do violence

-hey guys so we need for miyagi to give daniel some indirect advice but he’s dead what should we do? just put another guy in a hat that looks like miyagis and have him give the advice? okay perfect!!

-when daniel high kicks the shit outta those guys on the beach and is like “your grandpa know how to move like that, huh?” he is the actual hottest man alive. that is a science fact

-also his face when demetri shows up. please!!!! he’s so happy and so soft!!! YOU get a shoulder pat and YOU get a shoulder pat and YOU get a shoulder pat

-amanda’s comment about daniel hyperfocusing is so bang on and also timely. this is clearly going to come back soon

-season 2-3 hawk is genuinely a bit terrifying and I always forget this and then here I am scared of him again

-re: the trashed dojo. very upsetting on multiple levels, but when daniel barges into the ck dojo all wild and spitty to yell “what are you gonna do about it” and try to goad jlawz into a fight? i’m sorry but my simple little lizard brain is into that

-jimmy and bobby’s reaction to kreese being back is so valid. they are me. we are vibing

-“everyone deserves a second chance” jlawz babe your projection is showing :(( i love you PLEASE go talk to your son. stop adopting evil old men and random sweet adorable neighbours and go talk to your son who is just crying out for any effort from you at all.

-literally putting tommy in a body bag is the absolute worst crime this show has committed, and it has committed so many

-also all the cobra boys yelling wake up at him. guys……………… he’s dead i-

-that kreese army photo is so unintentionally funny. why does he look like he’s pretending to be an army guy in a porno

-interesting how when daniel recounts what happened in tkk3 leading up to briefly joining cobra kai to the kids, he completely omits the part where he was terrorized into joining the tournament in the first place. i suppose that could just be down to keeping it simple for the tv audience, or the writers doing that thing they do where they minimize what happened to daniel. but from a character perspective it’s interesting, like he still blames himself for wanting to win it.

aaaand that’s it for now. 2x08 next and then! pulpo. which i suspect will take longer that all the rest of the episodes for me to get through bc i will need a couple of intermissions to scream into a cushion

sidenote: when i get to s4, @lionlikenick is joining me to tandem watch, so that could mean one of two things. the thoughts on here could get a lot fewer because i’ll be sending them all direct to knickers, or you (all two of you) will be copping double the thoughts – mine and the ones i appropriate from her. no way of knowing which way it’ll go, but just warning you in advance.
