BIOGRAPHY.

You're known around town as the mayor's daughter. Your identity has been tied to your family since birth, and though you adore your father more than anything, that title also served as your own gilded cage.

Being so heavily bound to Sweetwater only made you more curious about the outside world, but you found yourself never quite setting foot outside of the town's domain. It was like a red string tied you to Sweetwater's boundaries, and you could do nothing but watch as miners and cowboys disappear into the sunset you often admired.

You found a way to express your desires through painting. Being able to sneak up onto the town's cliffs and paint the vast landscape soothed you, for whenever you stared into the picture's frame, you were able to imagine yourself exploring a world outside of your own.

The hobby helped distract you from the crime and pain that echoed throughout the town, and you found yourself offering that same escape to the newcomers as they wandered through your town. Perhaps it was curiosity about their unknown backstories, or a desire to step into someone else's shoes for a while, but you felt drawn to the outsiders. You latched onto them, helped introduce them to Sweetwater and the way your gilded cage worked, in the hopes that you could interest them like they interested you.

You told yourself that if you tried hard enough, maybe one of them would take you with them when they leave--- that they'd offer to help you see the world. For now, you remain tethered to Sweetwater, but that hope still resides in your heart.

hey ella, i've noticed lately that law enforcement is creeping back into the rpc. I can understand why but i feel a little uncomfortable with it. I can probably just push through it, but i guess i was hoping to see whether other people felt the same way.

Do you mean in terms of characters or group plots? I know I have seen some crime rps coming out and those tend to have some characters/plotlines revolving around law enforcement so if that is a trigger for you I would definitely avoid. If you mean in other groups like town rps, I haven't seen it myself but I can imagine that might be upsetting for some people.

What you have to remember is that law enforcement is still a regular part of any society. That and, given the amount of cop shows that are always popular, it's understandable that some people will want to write those kinds of characters. There are some occasions where they may make good villains but I, also, would not want to see that specific type of character in any group as police brutality is a trigger for me.

There are going to be topics in RP that bother us. That's not to say that you aren't alone or should try to force yourself through it. If a group already has law enforcement themes or characters, don't join them. If you're in a group already that doesn't have those but you worry someone might apply for a law enforcement character, speak to the admins about your concerns. if it was me as an admin and you were already a wonderful member of my group, I would want to keep it as safe a place as possible for you. No one should invalidate your feelings on this.

I don't think it is necessarily wrong that people are bringing those characters back, because the concept of law enforcement is supposed to be full of good intentions and you can get some strong motivation from playing those characters. However, your discomfort is completely justifiable and shared by others, I promise you.

That being said, I have a question to pose back to you, if you're willing: I am currently working on creating a group where a small town suddenly receives super powers and I was considering making a skeleton or wanted connection for a sherrif-like character that would be trying to keep it on the low to protect the people in their town from scrutiny. Would this kind of idea be upsetting to you? If so, should I change it to something more like a mayor or something? I was imagining Wynona Earp lesbian sheriff vibes if you know what I mean, but I am open to thoughts on this as I want my group to be a safe space.

 Well, noone can deny that Wynonna Earp knows how to throw a party. What Nicole wasn’texpecting is having their brand new, tiny apartment flooded with a crowd ofdrunken strangers. Where did all that people come, anyway?

She thinksfor a moment to look for Wynonna and ask her what the hell was she thinking,but her roommate is probably already too far gone to care.

What’s whatthey say? If you can’t beat them, join them?

Half anhour later, she’s already drunk-texting her ex.

“Why thefuck is Shae texting you?” Wynonna asks flopping at her side on the couch and leaninga little over her to peek at the phone’s screen.

“Because Itexted her fiiirst?”

“Why wouldyou do that?!”

“I missheeer, and I’m very druuunk.”

“Yes, youare.”

“Why aren’tyou drunk? This is a party! And you’re Wynonna!”

Her friendssighs, and takes a sip of the beer she’s been nursing all night.

“I wish Iwas drunk, believe me.” Wynonna sighs, “But Waves arrives at fucking eight inthe morning, and I have to go pick her up, so I’m trying not to end toowasted.”

“Who?” Theother girl asks confused.

“Waverly,”She replies, but Nicole just frowns, “My sister? I told you last week that shewas coming to study here, don’t you remember?”

“I… don’t.But I don’t remember what’s in this cup either, so…” Nicole turns on her sideto face Wynonna, and leans her head on the back of the couch, “Is she pretty?”

“Yes, sheis,” Wynonna answers cautiously, “And straight, too, so don’t even think aboutit, Haught.”

“Comeooon,” The other girl pouts, “At least show me a picture.”

“I don’thave a picture.”

“Liar,liar, pants of fire.”

“You’resuch an annoying drunk.”

“I’mmm not.I’m cute! And sshmart!”

Nicolestarts fumbling with her phone again, and suddenly she’s giggling like amaniac. Curious, Wynona gets a bit closer, and leans over the phone to look atthe screen.

“Haught,did you just thirst followed my sister on Instagram?”

Wynonnacan’t help but start laughing at the expression of pure horror on the othergirl’s face.

“She’s veeeeryprety, and I’m very drunk.”

“How didyou even find her?”

“You.”Nicole just smirks at her.

“Me? Idon’t even have Instagram.”

“You do.With fffou-ffive photos,” She replies, raising her hand and showing fourfingers, “She follows you.”

Snorting atthe silliness of the situation, Wynonna pats her best friend on the head.

“You are so going to regret this tomorrow.”

But, thenext day Nicole wakes up with the worst hangover she’s ever had, and very late, with the added surprise of atext from Shae asking if they could meet for lunch, so she doesn’t evenremember talking to Wynonna last night.

She spendsthe rest of the morning trying to ease her headache, before getting ready andleaving for lunch with her ex, which might be the most uncomfortable thinkshe’s ever done since the day they met at the grocery store two days after theirbreak-up.

It’sawkward at first, but with every passing minute it gets easier, and Nicole getsa glimpse of what could be a nice friendship in the future. At the end of theirlunch, she doesn’t regret that drunk-text that much.

“Hey, wherehave you been?”

Wynonna issitting on the couch, beer in hand, with her feet on top of the coffee table,and watching TV.

“I went tohave lunch with Shae,” Wynonna’s eyebrows rise comically at Nicole’s answer,“It was good, so do not start with the judgement.”

“You spentthe whole day with her?”

“Justlunch. I also had a meeting with my Ancient History professor, to prepare thefirst classes.”

“Oh, right,you’re a TA this year, right?”

“Needed theextra credits.”

“You don’t.You are twenty-four and already have a Criminology PhD. You could be workingwith the FBI if you wanted. Why the hell did you need to major in History, too?”

“I likeHistory.”

“You are soweird.”

“Make funof me all you want, but you’re already twenty-seven and still stuck on CriminalBehaviour.”

“I hatepsychology.” She takes a sip of her beer, “And I love making fun of you.”

“I stilldon’t know why we’re friends.”

“Because I’mfun and you looove me.” Wynonna pats the spot next to her, gesturing Nicole tosit.

“That’s upto debate.” She says, walking towards the couch.

“By theway, Waves was disappointed when she couldn’t meet you today.”

“Who?”Nicole asks. She knows she’s heard that name before, but can’t really rememberwhy.

Wynonnasighs.

“Waverly?My sister? I told you she was coming today to sign for her apartment.”

“Oh!” Theother girl exclaims, finally remembering, “You told me last week that she’sgoing to finish her degree here, right? Why does she want to meet me?”

Wynonnastares at her as if her best friend has just grown a second head.

“Nicole?”

“Yeah?”

“Do youremember anything from last night?”

“It’s kindof blurry,” She says, trying to recall the prior night. She doesn’t remembermuch, just arriving at the party and looking for Wynonna. Then she starteddrinking and making really bad choices, like texting Shae and, “Oh my God.”

“There itis,” Wynonna snorts.

“Why didn’tyou stop me?!” Nicole punches her in the arm.

“Becausethis is hilarious, and you know how much I love a good laugh.” Her friendsmirks, “By the way, Waves appreciates that you think she’s pretty.”

Completelyembarrassed, Nicole hides her face behind her hands, and asks to the greaterpowers for the Earth to swallow her.

“It’s notso bad.” Wynonna tries to cheer her up, “I told her about you before, and shewas already eager to meet you.”

“You justwant to see how much further I can embarrass myself in front of your sister.”

“That too.”Wynonna shrugs, “But, if it makes you feel better, she thinks you’re cute too,in a… you know… not friendly way, which is kind of big news for me.”

“Last nightyou said she was straight, right? Or did I imagine that?” Nicole asks, with abit too much hope in her voice.

“I thoughtshe was!” Her friend replies, “But it seems that she wants to be more open about things.”

“Oh.”

“She’s mylittle sister, Haught,” Wynonna points at Nicole with her index as a warning,“Stop thinking what you’re thinking.”

“If she’sinterested…”

“Nicole,you are my best friend and I love you, but… Ew.”

This timeis Nicole the one who starts laughing at the way her friend is staring at her. Shetakes the phone out of her pocket and opens her Instagram, because she doesn’treally remember how Wynonna’s sister looks. What she finds, though, is anotification saying that Waverly just started following her.

“Ugh,”Wynonna grunts next to her, “I hate when you have that all dimples grin in yourface.”

A weeklater, when she’s getting ready for her first class as a TA, Nicole finds afamiliar name on the list of students, and decides that the Universe might havesomething against her, because she’s going to spend a whole semester with WaverlyEarp in her class.

They stillhaven’t met, mostly because Nicole has been busy preparing for her classes, andWaverly’s time has been spent between settling in her new apartment and beingdragged around the city by Wynonna. The youngest Earp is having a party nextSaturday, and she’s been very adamant on having her sister’s best friend there,to finally meet her.

None ofthem were expecting this turn of events.

“I guessthis means I can’t ask you out, huh?”

Nicole raisesher eyes from the paper and finds the most beautiful girl she’s ever seen infront of her. The pictures definitely don’t make her justice.

“I… thinkso…” She struggles to get the words out of her mouth, because Waverly issmiling at her, and she’s already feeling a little breathless, “This school isn’treally tolerant with teacher-student… you know…?”

“Relationships?”Waverly finishes.

“Yeah,that.”

“Well,” Shesays with a smirk on her face that remembers Nicole of her best friend, “Atleast this gives us an excuse to know each other better without my big sistermeddling.”

“I guessso.”

The bellrings, announcing the start of the classes, and Nicole sees Professor Morgancoming into the room.

“I should…”She gestures towards the professor.

“Yeah, Ishould go, too.” She points at the rows of seats that are already filling upwith students. “It was nice to finallymeet you, Miss Haught.”

BeforeNicole can say anything else, Waverly gives her one last smile, and turnsaround to go find a seat before the class starts.

Torture, she thinks. Thisis going to be torture.

I’m not sure how much I can help with this since I don’t watch a lot of TV and you’ve probably seen most of the things I’m about to rec but here are all the shows I watch/have watched with wlw in them:

• Carmilla (obviously, that’s probably what you follow me for in the first place)• Legend of Korra - Mostly subtext until the end but still very enjoyable even if you don’t focus on Korrasami• Supergirl - Sanvers. Need I say more?• One Day At A Time - Features an adorable feminist baby gay. Also this is a great show for many reasons other that, you should check it out for sure! • San Junipero - Season 3 Episode 4 of Black mirror, but you don’t need to watch the other episodes to watch this once since each one is their own independent story. If you like wlw, 80s, and sci-fi, this is the story for you! • Orphan Black - It’s not really the main focus of the show since there are so many clones and so many things going on at once but Cosima and Delphine are adorable and I love them • Orange Is The New Black - So gay• Wynona Earp - Haven’t seen it yet but people keep telling me I’d like it • Carol - Gorgeous movie. 50s gays. Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara. Definitely watch it if you haven't yet• Imagine Me And You - Super cute movie about a woman who falls in love with the florist at her wedding• But I'm A Cheerleader - Movie about a girl who basically goes to conversion camp (but it's a comedy). Plus it stars Natasha Lyonne a.k.a. Nicky from OITNB• Life Is Strange - This is actually a video game but you have the option to make it gay (or not, that’s the fun of the game). It’s an intriguing game with a beautiful story but deals with a lot of heavy stuff so read the content warnings before playing • Ummm yeah that’s all I can think of right now but if anyone else has recommendations please add to this post!!

Finally! Guy Gardner Is Returning to His Warrior Persona!

As Green Lantern Corps Leader John Stewart works to hammer out an alliance between his crew and Soranik Natu’s Sinestro Corps, one of Stewart’s top lieutenants has gone AWOL on a personal mission — potentially heralding big changes for one of Earth’s longest-serving Green Lanterns. In “Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps” #15 by Robert Venditti and Ethan Van Sciver, Guy Gardner leaves behind his ring and dons a costume that will be familiar to longtime fans: the working-class clothes of Guy Gardner: Warrior.

While this issue frames Guy’s solo mission as a quick in-and-out excursion, current developments in the series and solicitation text for upcoming stories suggests that more permanent changes are in store. In “HJ&GLC” #14-15, John Stewart lays out a plan that will see each space sector policed by a team of one Green Lantern and member of the Sinestro Corps. Now, there are a glut of Earth-born GLs, but notably two of the newest are also currently partners, serving their home Sector 2814 — and there’s already a suggestion this partnership could be in peril:

“LOST IN SPACE” part two! The Green Lantern Corps make a pact to work with the reformed, and searching for redemption, Sinestro Corps to protect the universe, one Green and one Yellow per sector. So what does this mean for Sector 2814—and Simon and Jessica’s partnership?

If Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz are indeed split up in the interest of the alliance with the Sinestro Corps, the question becomes, which wielder of the yellow ring will take over?

The signs strongly point toward Guy Gardner.

Guy Gardner and Sinestro’s Might

Back in 1968’s “Green Lantern” #59, readers first learned of “Earth’s Other Green Lantern,” a school teacher named Guy Gardner who, like Hal Jordan was also without fear — but when Abin Sur’s spaceship crashed, Hal was closer. Ever since Guy finally got a ring of his own during “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” he’s had a bit of a chip on his shoulder. Finally, in 1992’s “Green Lantern” #25, he was forced to quit the Corps after losing a winner-take-all grudge match with his nemesis, Hal Jordan.

So he does what any self-respecting Guy would do: he wrestles Sinestro’s ghost for control of the yellow power ring.

Note 1 for modern readers: Sinestro was dead at the time, hence the ghost.

Note 2: there was only one yellow ring, and no Corps other than the GLs.

With his new yellow ring (and awesome leather jacket), Guy is able to rejoin the Justice League and even gets his own series, written first by Gerard Jones, then Chuck Dixon, and illustrated by Joe Staton and others.

After sixteen issues, though, things changed. Then they changed again.

Guy Gardner: Warrior

Guy’s ongoing series changed its name to “Guy Gardner: Warrior” with issue #17, debuting a rather suspect new costume for the brash hero. Guy has a new, more mature outlook on life after confronting his past in the “Yesterday’s Sins” arc and an evil clone in “Collateral Damage,” so he tells his assembled friends, “From now on it’s Warrior!”

Those pants.

(For the record, folks generally still called him Guy.)

But that’s not all! His yellow ring is acting up as a result of Hal Jordan destroying Oa’s Central Power Battery on his way to becoming the cosmic villain Parallax, and when Guy brings the fight to Hal, he loses badly, and his own ring is destroyed.

Luckily, aliens happen.

More specifically, it is revealed that Guy is in fact the last descendant of race of shapeshifters called the Vuldarians. An Indiana Jones-style quest unlocks Guy’s own latent powers, and his series runs to 44 issues (plus a zero issue), mostly written by “Wynona Earp” creator Beau Smith and illustrated by Mitch Byrd. Despite the questionable concept and very ’90s shirtless look with tribal tattoos, these issues were a ton of fun.

The Return of Warrior

So what do we know from this week’s issue? Guy is once again without a ring, as he has been when he’s found himself between superhero identities on more than one occasion. He wears the jacket from his yellow ring days, and a t-shirt from the Warrior era. He’s also challenging Arkillo, whom he views as his direct and equal opposite in the Sinestro Corps, to a hand-to-hand fight.

As John Stewart struggles to maintain the authority of his command (in addition to Guy going MIA, Hal and Kyle are also on an away mission against John’s wishes, though in their case not without his consent), one can easily imagine Guy being expelled from the Green Lantern Corps. Assuming Guy wins the fight with Arkillo (and he’d damn well better), he may have a Sinestro Corps ring as a prize. Soranik could also simply choose to deputize him — the Green Lanterns’ loss is the Sinestro Corps’ gain. From there, it’s a short jump to imagine him taking over from either Simon or Jessica and becoming the yellow ring-bearer of Sector 2814.

Alternately, Guy is relieved of duty in the Green Lantern Corps but does not get a new ring. In this scenario, he could either fight injustice as a street-level brawler a la Wildcat, or get back in touch with his Vuldarian heritage.

Of these three potential scenarios, Guy once gain wielding a yellow ring seems the most likely. Here’s hoping the he maintains the badass monogrammed jacket, and opts against once again wearing the riding chaps.
