I cannot tell you how deeply I relate to 'no plot just vibes' 🤣 What kind of vibes are we talking about?

hahah no plot just vibes is a whole ass vibe in itself. Basically it's 1200 pretty words of Henry just being in the brownstone and Alex moving in, and there's no plot just pretty words about them being happy and weird and adjusting.

Here's a taste of it!

Henry buys the brownstone in New York and moves in a few months later. It takes time, he finds out, to extricate himself fully from Kensington Palace, and time to extricate himself partially from the demands of being a full time member of his family. He is still responsible for certain meetings and charitable events that he’ll fly back to London for, but within three months of signing on the dotted line, he is moving into this grand house that he’s bought.  There are windows everywhere, and they let in so much light that it threatens to blind him. He’s never lived anywhere but KP. He’s never lived anywhere that hasn’t been made of crumbling stone and secrets, somewhere that didn’t have a scant, discreet amount of windows. He knows he should get curtains, that it is dangerous allowing this much of his life and his home to be so visible to the public. But he can’t bring himself to do it, not yet. He wants the light.

a) one poor sad WIP that I haven't touched since last July, and

b) one idea that isn't even a WIP because it was born today and only exists in my head, and I just came up with a draft title for the purposes of this tag game. :-)

At which point of the writing process do you decide on a title? How do you find one? Does it just come to you, or do you spend a long time looking for the right one? Do you keep projects under a WIP title before that point? If so, what's the biggest change between WIP and final title you've had so far?

Great question! It totally depends.

The Prince of Thieves came pretty quickly after Will was written into life for Whumptober 2022 day ?10? (somewhere around there, I think), and it was the title that shaped the way the rest of the story played out.

The Queen of Lies was lucky enough to have an established titling pattern that I wanted to fit, so I didn't have to work too hard. It also influenced the way the story went - I had to make sure Bree lied a decent amount so that the title continued to make sense.

The Curiosity Collector came to me pretty quickly, and it was chosen because I thought it sounded cool.

Book 1's title took a decade, and lots of thinking and researching and agonizing. Book 2's title might become Book 3's title and leave Book 2 back in the realm of untitled wips. help.

Fen and Freddie never got a real title. 😅

angsty heist wip's title came to me pretty quickly but involved lots of thesaurus.com time plus asking my husband for this opinion. It's also really the only one that has a clever, catchy wip title, lol.

I can't think of any major changes from wip to final title, but I can promise you that angsty heist wip is not called The Angsty Heist. Although that would be amazing tbh.

Dovey is Kicked Out of Class? I haven't read the books but I HAVE seen the movie and Dovey is wonderful

Omg RIGHT okay so this post will contain book spoilers because I saw the film and then starting hyperfixating and now I'm reading the books (just finished book two and this fic is set during it) and you are ABSOLUTELY correct Dovey is SO wonderful which is what prompted this fic

So in Book Two, there's a New Villain (Evelyn) who is objectively terrifying, and she takes over the School for Good (but it's been turned into the School for Girls due to magical fuckery which means Dovey and Lesso are currently teaching at the same school). Also Evelyn is a literal dictator running a police state using magical butterflies to spy on people. It's a whole thing. ANYWAY, there's a moment where Dovey not only publicly disobeys her, but actually challenges her, almost exposing her Secret Past to a room full of students, and gets quite literally thrown out of her classroom for it

Now other teachers have been thrown out of the whole school (and there's an angry mob of incel princes outside that will legit murder any women they see) so this lil fic focuses on the aftermath of this moment, in regards to Lesso hearing second hand that Dovey was thrown out, but not having enough detail to know if she's okay or even still on school grounds, or enough power to take on Evelyn herself. It also relies on the idea that they've got an established secret relationship going on because... come on. They're in love I don't care

Anywho have a snippet:

Clarissa took a deep breath, silently opening the door to her bedroom and slipping inside. Leonora was pacing back and forth at the end of the bed, and her head snapped up at the soft click of the door closing behind her lover. She was on her in an instant, cold hands cupping Clarissa’s face, eyes searching desperately over her.

“Are you hurt?” she sounded breathless, and her lip trembled slightly. This was the side of her that only Clarissa got to see, and it warmed her heart even as Lesso’s hands leeched the heat from her skin.

“I’m fine, dearest.” Leonora’s eyes didn’t stop darting over her face, checking that fact for herself, scanning over her entire body for any sign of injury. Clarissa curled her fingers over her love’s wrists, bringing her gaze back up to her own. “Leonora. I’m fine.”

The taller woman’s shoulders dropped, a shaky breath escaping her as she tugged Dovey closer, nestling her head into the crook of her neck, one hand on the back of her head while the other arm wrapped tightly around her shoulders. She bowed her head for a moment, breathing deeply, and Clarissa gently wrapped her own arms around Leonora’s waist.

“I’m fine.”

Suddenly she was pushed away, held at arm’s length, Leonora’s nails digging into her shoulders. “What were you thinking?” Lesso’s tone alone was enough to make anyone else beg for mercy, and her face was contorted in anger, but Clarissa knew her well enough to see the fear there too.

“I had to say something. I couldn’t just let her-”

“Yes! You could have!” Leonora released her in favour of pacing once again, a snarl forming even as her hands shook. “You don’t have to save everyone, Clarissa! This isn’t your fault, and it isn’t your fight.”

Dovey pursed her lips. While she understood Lesso’s reasons, it certainly didn’t mean she was just going to stand there and allow herself to be berated for standing up to Evelyn. “And if I don’t protect the children, who will?”

Leonora whirled, shouting without hesitation, “And if you stand up to Evelyn, who’s going to protect you?”

Hi friend!

beloved chicky nuggies fic. Bestie @england-would-fall and I had an entire conversation one day about, what if Alex just wants to eat dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets and Henry is appalled. It's entirely fluff, and it's so sweet and I really need to get back to it because the ending is already planned out and it's adorable.

Have a bit!

"Wait. Stop. This is not chicken. I told you to get chicken.” Henry stares at the bag in his hand.  “It is chicken, it says it right there!” Alex points an angry finger at the word ‘chicken’ emblazoned in bold letters in front of them.  “These are dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets, you absolute muppet! I can’t make stir fry with whatever-the-fuck a nugget is!” Henry is completely incredulous. That’s it. Alex isn’t even allowed in the grocery store anymore. “Who said they wanted stir fry? I want these.” Alex smiles, and he is so fucking cute but Henry is still baffled by the existence of these fried mechanically separated pieces of chicken that the man he loves wants them to consume, and so he doesn’t have time to find him cute.
