Here's my rant about the new Harley Quinn movie. I love Harley Quinn and Margot Robbie ALOT and I was really excited to see this movie, so I feel bad for saying anything negative about it.

First off..The general audience wanted a full-blown Harley Quinn movie with characters like Poison Ivy & Catwomen and yes...the Joker as well. It was a no-brainer. But, instead we get something nobody asked for, a toned-down Harley Quinn movie that seems to only want to appeal to Women. The problem is that Men and women both love Harley so just wanting to cater to women and making every dude in the movie a terrible person is pretty unfair to say the least. If you want a movie to succeed and to be great, you can't demonize the entire male population. Just like how the Terminator dark fate movie had. Second, is that the director didn't seem to really get who Harley Quinn is as a character. Margot Robbie let it slip in a recent interview that she had to keep reminding Cathy Yan that Harley Quinn is a terrible person..when she tried to water her down. I believe that David Ayer perfectly understood who Harley truly was as a character and that's one of the reasons Harley Quinn was the best thing to come out of Suicide Squad. Why hire a director that is inexperienced and doesn't really understand the character?! Also, the writing sucked..so I feel like they just wanted to hire anybody as long as it's a woman instead of looking for someone that is actually a great writer and is qualified for the job.

I read some reviews saying that this movie is very much like Deadpool and has like a Quentin Tarantino vibe to it..I was very excited to hear this, but i didn't find that to be true at all. It does have Deadpool elements with Harley breaking the 4th wall, but it's not as outrageous and daring as Deadpool and to compare it to a Quentin Tarantino movie is downright disrespectful. I don't care how many times they swore in Birds of Prey and a blown up body..it does not deserve to be rated R. If you fight so hard for an R rating, make sure you go all out!! Same issue with Terminator: Dark Fate..everyone involved in the movie kept bringing up the R rating to get people excited for the movie, but guess what?? It didn't feel like an R rated movie at all! I feel like was tricked into seeing both of these movies.

I do not think Birds of Prey is a terrible movie, despite all my ranting...It had some great moments, like the egg sandwich scene and drunk Harley at the club. But a few great scenes cannot make a great movie. I did like Black Canary, I thought she did a good job..so did Huntress..despite a very small role in the movie..but neither were fleshed out enough for me to even care for them or any of the other characters. Harley felt more like Harley in the PG-13 movie Suicide Squad. In this movie, I feel like for most of the movie, she was taken a couple notches down. I also think that her costumes were really tacky..like they got the clothing designer for hot topic to design the costumes. Harley Quinn is a sexy character, so taking that away and trying to turn her into a tomboy was a disservice for the character.

The final battle scene felt like rehearsal footage. You clearly see Huntress stab a bad guy to death and as the camera moves, you see him run off to the side. The editing was sloppy. I would say the editing is just as bad as Suicide Squad. My favorite thing about this movie is the music and the music videos..Doja Cat's music video is what this movie should have been.

I still love Harley Quinn and I can't wait to see what James Gunn comes up with for her in his Suicide Squad movie.

Summary: You takes Dia for a drive and Nico and Maki finally get some alone time.

Driving and Disco

Dia seemed to have a permanent scowl, her upper lip scrunched up and her nose scrunched down as she stared out the window of You’s car. And You was trying really really hard not to be nervous. Technically, Dia hadn’t been born yet, so surely that meant You had already said whatever it was she was going to say and Dia probably hadn’t shoved You out of the car. Or did it? You shoved her hat back. This was even more confusing than the usual Yohane messes. Time to mainline time travel movies. Were there any cheerful ones? Right now, the only one You could remember was Terminator and while Dia was reserved, surely she wasn’t a killer robot.

“So is it very different?” You ventured before she started down the Dia destroying property path.

“Every car on the road is a carbon criminal. And they smell.” Dia leaned into her hand, her elbow jutting out from the opened window.

“Well, at least there’s progress.” You tried for cheery.

“Very little here, truthfully. It’s no wonder my parents decided to spend most of their time in Japan.”

You sighed. “So is there anything you like about LA?”

Dia considered, “I’ve always liked the Malibu house.”

“Seems a little cold.”

Dia shook her head, finally smiling, “Not with Mom around. She could make the surface of the moon warm and bright. And Mama would always take us outside to look at the stars. Too many satellites, but the view could still be pretty amazing. Ruby liked all the quiet.”

“Mom is Nico, Mama Maki, right?”

Dia nodded.

“Well, I love the Pacific. There’s some beautiful views. I’m always grateful I’ve been assigned here. The Great Lakes weren’t quite the same.”

Dia seemed puzzled. “Great Lakes?”

“In the midwest, Lake Erie, Lake Michigan, Lake Huron…”

“Oh.”

“I was a liaison with the RCMP.”

“RCMP?”

“Royal Canadian Mounted Police.”

“Ah.” Dia found something she could approve of, “Your superiors must have a lot of trust in you to assign you to international cases.”

“I am extremely reliable.” You saluted.

“Which is why you’re involved with that winged demon....”

“Technically, she’s a fallen angel and the rest of us are demons.”

“What?”

You chuckled. “Sorry, old joke.”

“Explain.” Dia demanded.

You sighed, “I’d rather not. I sense Yoshiko is still not vibing with you.” You flicked on the turn signal, “Why don’t you tell me about your sister?”

Silence. Green eyes glared, like a dangerous bit of wave about to crash You back to the beach.

“Then tell me something that might help us get your parents together?”

 ###

“I don’t LOVE pizza.” Maki insisted.

Nico laughed, “You just ranked all the pizza places in Malibu and half of the ones in Silver Lake. Nico doesn’t believe you.”

“I haven’t heard about this one.”

“Hidden treasure. Nico knows all the best places to take pretty girls.”

Maki stopped, blushing. It took Nico a couple of steps to realize she’d lost her audience.

“Maki?”

“Are we really going on a date?”

“Yes.”

“Without…”

Nico sighed, carefully watching Maki’s body language, So much hesitation, turned mostly away, very wary, no eye contact. Not the open invitation to a carefree evening Nico wanted. Nico reached out and took Maki’s hand, “The pizza’s great, Nico really wants to hear all about whatever you want to tell Nico, and can we just pretend neither of us is wondering if I’ll get a phone call.”

Maki squeezed Nico’s hand, suddenly enthusiastic. “Sure. But I might talk a lot. You won’t believe the song requests I got in Toronto. I’ll need a disco ball soon.”

“Disco is evil.” Nico said flatly.

“Are you actually gay? Disco is…” Maki paused, her face scrunched up into thinking mode, her eyes twinkling, “dance joy.”

NIco pulled Maki closer to bump shoulders, still holding hands and enjoying the warmth building between their palms, “ Nico will demonstrate exactly how gay she is at exactly the right romantic moment. And disco is…”

Maki broke away to do some silly dance move from an even sillier movie, her arms cutting through the air, “An apocalypse survival tool.”

“What?”

“Disco is an apocalypse survival tool. Kylie Minoghue knows it, Carly Rae Jepsen keeps teasing it, Dia Lupa and Doja Cat are driving people to the dancefloor, and…”

“Stop.” Nico held up a hand. “I’ll turn off my phone if you stop talking about disco.”

Maki stared, Nico’s face was...beautiful, tired, amused, and a little sad. Maki suddenly knew, like the cork on champagne finally loosening to pop, that Nico meant it, she would shut off her phone, ignoring any Eli problems, that Nico was offering what she thought Maki wanted. But what Maki wanted was Nico.

Maki laughed. It was her choice. And she chose Nico, who tilted her head, curious about Maki’s amusement.

“I’m sorry Nico, I just can’t stop talking about disco. Not even for you.” Hands on her hips, Maki dared Nico to disagree.

Nico blinked, too surprised at Maki’s answer to hide it. Then she reclaimed Maki’s hand to pull her along, “Nico’s going to pick all the best toppings. It’s a good thing you’ll be so busy eating the best pizza ever that you won’t have time to talk. Better get it all out of your system now.”

“Dancing, euphoria, angst, lust, pulsing against someone on the dance floor, Donna Summer, Thelma Houston, …” Maki stopped, closing her eyes, head bobbing to the tune she was hearing, arms queueing up songs, hips swaying, “Surviving, staying alive, being alive…” Maki’s voice dropped and she sang,

Push. Press. More. Less. Here together What's your pleasure? Stop. Go. Fast. Slow. Here together What's your pleasure?

Nico knew, in a deep in her core way, why so many pretty people rushed to be next to the Diamond Princess at every one of her gigs. Maki was magnetic, unaware of her own allure. Before dinner, a shadowy sidewalk, traffic noises for a soundtrack was not Nico’s first choice for making a move, but maybe this time the universe wouldn’t dump someone on her head. She stepped forward, hands reaching for Maki’s hips, and those gorgeous eyes flew open, Maki staring down, seemingly stunned. Nico began to dance, keeping the same rhythm, Maki matching move for move, Nico pushing closer to those hips.

Nico got as near Maki’s ear as she could, grinning when the taller redhead leaned closer to hear what Nico was whispering.

“Nico can’t resist. Do I have to?”

Maki’s eyes were so wide, as bright as full gem moons, as deep as the distance to Mars. She bit her lip, Nico now so close to her nose the tips were brushing.

“Please?”

Maki nodded, swallowing and Nico pulled her in, lips a tender tease, pressing eagerly forward when Maki murmured a yes, both their legs trembling. But Nico’s hands were sure and Maki, after the initial uncertainty, slid her arms over Nico’s shoulders, and continued her dance, refusing to break away from kissing for more than short breaths. Nico was beginning to wish they were in a car. Pizza could be delivered later, after all. And then Maki’s body was flush against her, and Nico was feeling curves push ever closer, and her fingers were in Maki’s hair, and there was no room for even the shortest breath between them.

A/N: A short chapter to get me back in this story zone after AU Yeah August and a busy summer.

Quarantine is really getting to me

Everyone I know is so ridiculously bored it’s crazy. Every blog I’ve started in the past has never made it this far and I’ve only been working on this one for one day ;( The only thing getting me through has been music. I had a good friend (and if he’s reading this he knows who he is) comment that I’m always wearing headphones when I take pictures. That is just simply because there is no task that I do without listening to music. Really my entire life is one long music video.

So I thought, as courtesy to you all, I would give you some music recommendations as it really is the only thing that gets me through the day. At my barista job the other day (rip) a girl told me she liked the music I was playing and I almost CRIED. That really is the biggest compliment ever. I was tagged by the lovely @kihyunsbabe to share the top ten songs i am obsessed with at the moment! i will also explain why i’m obsessed with them because i can and i chose five KPOP songs as well as five non-KPOP songs. the explanations aren’t gonna be Deep™️ or anything because i just like music i can shake my ass to most of the time but ANYWAYS

starting with KPOP (since this is a kpop blog after all)

1. “What U do?” - EXO

This song never fails to put me in a good mood and makes me wanna dance and sing along at the top of my lungs! it’s a certifiable bop and definitely my style, as i tend to like more poppy/upbeat songs

2. “All Night” - ASTRO

I just discovered ASTRO within the past couple of months and i have fallen in love. this was the first song/MV of theirs i watched and it quickly became my favorite. the music, the concept, the aesthetic, ITS ALL SO BEAUTIFUL! i constantly put it on repeat and will listen to it over and over again

3. “HALA HALA (Hearts Awakened, Live Alive)” - ATEEZ

LISTEN YALL THIS SONG GETS ME SO HYPE, it honestly makes me wanna kick in doors and fight people in warehouses, it’s just amazing. then paired with the softer and tender opening verses, it’s a great build up for the beat drop of the chorus NOT GONNA MENTION THE DEMON THAT IS CHOI SAN’S INTENSE CHOREO NOPE

4. “Bon Bon Chocolat” - EVERGLOW

i get this song stuck in my head so often, the beat is sooooo catchy! i was happy watching the video as well, because these girls have a thing going on similar to Dreamcatcher, who i also love for their edgier style and music! cute and edgy is a perfect combination in my book, we stan

5. “HOME” - BTS

i’m definitely more than happy with PERSONA but THIS IS MY FAVE TRACK ON IT. i love the chill vibe and beat, not to mention Namjoon’s “i just wanna go home” at the beginning is a complete and utter MOOD 24/7 for me, i play it driving home from work a lot 😅

6. “Nights Like This” - Kehlani feat. Ty Dolla $ign

this songs gets me in my feels every time. i’ve been a huge fan of Kehlani for a while now and her latest album is a pure work of art. this song specifically reminds me of a relationship i had in the past that utterly broke my heart (thank you Kehlani for writing a heartbreak song for wlw, QUEEN)

7. “bad guy” - Billie Eilish

not gonna lie, most of the reason i like Billie so much is because she’s a goofy kid and relatable, but her music is still really good in my opinion. this song is a little bit lighter than most of her music so it doesn’t leave me feeling low but is still playfully dark, which i appreciate

8. “Juicy” - Doja Cat

this song is my JAM I LOVE DOJA, remember how i said i like music i can shake my ass too? this definitely falls under that category, it’s upbeat and fun and also positive, definitely one i listen to when i’m feeling a little insecure about my body

9. “Hot Girl” - Yung Baby Tate feat. Kari Faux

i discovered Baby Tate through twitter and she deserves so much love and support, the entire album of GIRLS is wonderful and it was hard to pick just one song from it i like most, but this is one that i will put on repeat and jam to, another song i use to remind me that i’m a bad bitch 😉

10. “Bad Blood” - Nao

i was lucky enough to see Nao live earlier this year with my best friend and she is AMAAAAAAZING, she has such a unique voice and one of my favorite things about this song is that she sings both high notes and SUPER LOW as well, RESPECT (also, for all you other Monbebes out there, Minhyuk is also a fan of Nao, check her out if you like!)

The life of Disco

Disco is probably one of the most recognizable and historical music genres of all time and has the most inteteresting rise, fall and rebirth that society has ever seen.

Birth

Disco has been out there since the 60′s, as a way of self expression, many black and latino gay men in the US started mixing their culture and gave it an american/mainstream twist, not with the intention of becoming superstars or any above those lines, but to give themselves a place and enviroment to dance freely. Disco takes african and caribbean melodies and combines them with electronic instrumentation and pop lyrical structure, the vocal side was later added when black women started becoming a part of the genre, since most black artist at the time had a gospel background, they brought soul which caused male black artists to come in the mix and add a Jazz/Soul/R&B to the whole thing. As a result, Disco became the genre for minorities in North America, it became a musical home for all of this artists who kept being ignored and pushed to a side for their accents and skin colour, the culture that was once demonized became the standard, ever since Disco we also started seeing women being sexually liberated, Disco gave women a platform to sexualize men the same way men over-sexualize women. Donna Summer, Diana Ross, Little Richard, etc. all of these black artists took control over their careers and identities by the late 70′s; of course, white entertainers took a deep dive on the genre, Saturday Night Fever is a prime example of white washing, even the director and producer of the movie has accepted that he had no idea of the background of Disco and percieved the genre as music only for the cool (white) kids, however not all the whites were fads, the legendary Cher started bringing many black artists on her show to share duets and mix their music, she didn’t steal, but was a a part of it and even introduced The Jackson 5 to the mainstream! 

Death 

The night of the 12 of July of 1979, although deleted from history, was quite impotant for the genre, that night, over sixty thousand white americans went to a baseball match, they watched the first part of the game while playing frisbee with Disco records (they say Donna Summers’ albums were the most thrown around) when the halftime came, half of the public slid down their seats to the field and started throwing all the records to one big pit that was later set on fire, leaving one big hole on the field. 

But why did they do it? The whites organized this whole event claiming that Disco was harmful to America’s ethic and moral values, but the actual motives are incredibly rooted on racism, sexism and xenophobia, before Disco, mainstream music was basic Pop and Rock n’ Roll manufactured by white artists, in fact, big names like Elvis stole most of their discography and style from black and latin artists, but after the Motown phenomenon and the rise of Disco, white artists started being pushed to the side and sexual and racial diversity was becoming a norm, turning mad all of white America. After this event Disco started slowly drifting and we started seeing more white artists rise to fame, and even though the 80′s carried some influence, Disco never came back to its original form. The media also started a whole “Disco sucks” campaign, many tv shows started putting the genre on a bad light, pushing the idea that it was hideous and annoying. However Disco didn’t go anywhere, it found a home at Chicago’s night clubs and was pretty much an underdog that heavily influenced the 80′s. 

Rebirth

As I said, Disco nver left, but it took a step back, ever since the 70s, Disco has never left mainstream, synth, alternative, pop, lofi, electronica, french house, etc. Every deacde has severe Disco undertones that mantained the genre alive; on recent years Nostalgia has become the overall market biggest trend, the 80s are right now the ultimate aesthetic, we can see it in fashion, cinematography and of course, music; mainstream artists like Dua Lipa or The Weeknd have succesfully brought very solid, trap/pop infused sound to mainstream. Artists like Daft Punk and Tame Impala have also maintained the synth/funk genre alive throughout the last decade and helped it get to the general public once again on a more organic form.

I’m not the biggest fashionista, I’m aware of the trends but I don’t wear them, I don’t have the cash and the physicality to pull them off, however I observe ‘em and I’ve noticed that up from early 2018 the 80′s have come back, and with the 80′s come the 70′s, although i feel that a hybrid between the 70′s and 00′s will be the definitive fashion trend; so expect everyone to look the same way Elton Jhon, Diana Ross, Grace Jones and Cher looked on the late 70′s (this also goes along with the resurgance of Camp fashion). 

What’s incredibly fitting is that, as of right now, the music industry is pretty much being dominated by black and latin artists, everyone all over the world is listening to Reggateon, Lil Nas (a gay black men) has the longest running #1 hit (Old Town Road) on the billboard charts (the most prestigous chart in the music industry), for the first time ever the Superbowl Halftime Show was headlined by latin artists, Shakira and JLo (both mothers over 40, ignoring the exotic youthful stereotype of latinas in the US), and for the first time in history, four black women have being at the top of the billboard hot 100 (Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Meghan Thee Stallion and Doja Cat). Of course the industry won’t duplicate the 70′s as a whole, but we are getting, let’s say, a more progressive and even more diverse decade full of tasteful up-beat music from all over the world so even though I’m not gonna dance for sh*t for the next decade, the energy will be enough to keep me vibing and enjoying .
