This new canvas is a lot of what I’ve been up to these days, at my parent’s farm-home “Muyawasi”, in Quilmana, Peru. It’s an activated portrait of my good friend and spiritual doctor @herbert_quinteros . He has been helping me lots for the last 6 years and will marry Arianne and me later this year too. At this point the painting is at 30%, so there is still lots of work to be done, but I gifted myself this winter (summer down here though) to work on it. In order to make this time to paint, I had to turn down many commissions and event performance gigs that I had been offered. But I had saved enough to pay my bills these months, as to have this freedom to do some art for myself. Though I am happy to be of service, being on the road a lot, painting for the communities that resonate with my work, it is important that I also give myself some of my own time. Time for family or solitude, to be peaceful and recharge. Time for pure self expression, without a client or money influencing the process. I am super grateful to be here now!
